History
| This article is a work in progress. …well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editors’ notes. |
The DEC faction, which became a powerful military in its prime, has very informal and humble origins. Its ancestor and founder was PDP-1-tan, a member of the MIT Society and one of Whirlwind's daughters; she founded her own group in the early 1960's when her first descendants, PDP-4, and PDP-6 were born, and they made their headquarters in an old wood mill building, referencing DEC's original headquarters.
PDP-1-tan's resourcefulness and PDP-6-tan's strength allowed the faction to survive against competition from the other mainframe factions. They did not yet have formal military experience though, and didn't originate as a military; PDP-1-tan was a pacifist and raised her daughters to be too, but would form militias when they needed to fight. It wasn't until the late 1960's that the DECs would officially become a military, becoming one in response to threats from the nearby Data General faction, and later competition from the Unix Family.
