Technical details
Microsoft Neptune entered development in 1999; with the intention of being a home edition of Windows 2000, as a successor to Windows 98. After only a few test builds, Neptune was scrapped; with Windows ME being released to tide over customers, while Neptune was merged with Odyssey (The planned successor to Windows 2000 for businesses, which never made it past the concept stages) were merged to form a new project known as Whistler, which became what we know today as Windows XP.

Neptune-tan is commonly depicted as a mature woman with light skin, long light blue hair held in high twintails, long bangs, a purple visor, mech horns or fins on the sides of her face, possibly joined to the earphones or headset she appears to be wearing. She has a full bust and wears an ankle length black and dark blue-purple dress bisected by a belt, and long, fingerless gloves. She wears a collar and cuffs, and yellow ribbons resembling ofuda demon-protection charms on her collar and "horns". [1]
She's depicted with green hair in one alternate representation.[2]
Neptune-tan appears blank-faced and determined.
