Look at her!  Trying to pioneer the American version of sukeban.

Posted the answer key on tumblr...

A kind of American sukeban known as "EDVAC".

Cheesecake time ft. a variety of poses I found in my pinup book. Left to right:
- Whirlwind-tan. I finally remembered to draw her with her leg braces. I hope she's recognizable with her hair up in rollers.
- SAGE-tan. First pose is taken from an archery pinup, the second pose/outfit is from the Miike Snow "My Trigger" music video.

Quote from: stewartsage on August 14, 2025, 09:57:36 PMAhhhh!  You finished her!  EDVAC-tan really was plagued with so much misfortune and the best anyone seems to be able to say is that she was the second best computer at Aberdeen.  I guess that's the sorrow a lot of her contemporaries too.  How do you think she gets along with the likes of ORDVAC-tan or NAREC-tan?  Not to mention the up-and-coming commercial replacements.  Did she inherit her "dads" suspicion of RCA and IBM?

Still trying to answer that myself! I think EDVAC-tan would be frosty but professional toward ORDVAC-tan and her kin. Though ORDVAC-tan never hurt her directly, I don't think she would be able to forgive the sins of the mother (so to speak) as easily as ENIAC-tan. I think she would be quite suspicious of the RCAs and IBMs, and be worse off than ENIAC-tan in the sense that she can't even really take pride in the Univacs.

Edit: I do wonder what (if anything) EDVAC-tan thinks about Whirlwind-tan, given she was a part of the cohort of early computer-tans 'inspired' by her, but *not* an IAS clone.

I made a few small changes to her design while drawing her. Mostly, references to the delay line memory that EDVAC debuted, which I forgot to incorporate the first time around. I swapped her hair and eye color to silver, both a reference to the mercury used in its memory, and to draw a parallel to IAS-tan. I also gave her a long cigarette holder and smoking habit, a reference to the long, thin pipes of the delay line. (It doesn't really do anything *for* her as an automaton and a computer, it's more of a nervous tick than anything else.)

EDSAC-tan and Manchester Baby/Mark I/MADM-tan will be next! I have a solid idea for EDSAC-tan but am still at a loss for personifying Manchester Mark I...

Quote from: Bella on August 18, 2025, 04:03:53 PMThank you Goujer! This is a fun style to work in, I'd like to do more vintage OS-tans in period-inspired art styles.

EDVAC-tan with a couple of design revisions from my original post. I'll say a bit more in the thread later.

Finished that IAS Machine-tan & Whirlwind-tan art!

Fullsize for better detail on Whirlwind-tan's magnetic core memory "lace" socks/choker/bow. What visual other references to their respective computers can you find?

Looks great!

I really want to make some vintage computer tributes at historically significant sites but I'm not sure which/how. There's already a pretty good DEC tribute going in Maynard which was my first thought. Maybe I'll throw in a pdp-8.

Caught the Wplace bug. However I've noticed there is a major lack of Os-tans there.
So far only paid tribute to my local arcade.
