Yu & Ai are the unofficial mascots for Windows 8, which first appeared in an [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-10-11/microsoft-windows-8-2-new-japanese-moe-mascots-revealed article] about the two mascots for Windows
8 on October 11th, 2012. Before this article, one can see the silhouette of Yu Madobe at the end of a music video entitled [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydJinL8Ln3Q Through The Window] by MasatakaP and Electrocutica, that was the opener for Microsoft Developer Days in japan, and which stars [[Windows Azure|Claudia Madobe]],with a quick appearance by [[Windows 7|Nanami Madobe]] at the end shortly before the silhouette is seen.

Furthermore, in the Akihabara shopping district one can by a limited edition of these versions of Windows 8 DSP that include extra voices not contained in the regular Yu & Ai editions, as well as the Microsoft Wedge Mouse included will have an illustration on it of either Yu or Ai.

Though Yu & Ai are the mascots used in Windows 8, theyre not the only ones! There's not many but a few fan made ones have surfaced in the fandom, such as a few from our very own users in the Os-tan collection forums, as well as a comic strip that oddly depicted 8-tan as a film director.

Windows 8 is Microsoft's latest OS, scheduled to be released later this year. It has an overhauled interface based off of Windows Phone 7's Metro UI. A modified version of the desktop remains, the Start button was removed and replaced with Metro's Start screen. While stable and fast, Windows 8 is criticized for being counter-intuitive.


The rush to make the newest Windows-tan design is mostly over; unlike Vistan and Windows 7-tan, there are only a few Windows 8-tan designs. The first known one depicts her as a casually-dressed film-maker. Another design, drawn by Esu of +Nijiura+, is depicted with long black hair, an 8-shaped bow in her hair, and wears what resembles a stylized miko outfit. No characterizations seem to have been established yet.
