EVERYONE!  I BOUGHT MORE BOOKS!  Ghost Towns of New England, 1965 Boy Scout Handbook, Sea Chanty Song Book, Historical American Atlas, 1962 Virginia Supreme Court Cases, two fiction books about Vietnam, 1964 Madison College Course Catalogue, 1965 Bridgewater College Course Catalogue, 1944 Officer's Guide, Shortwave Radio Listener's Guide (1973)

Also news: New avatar.  As much as FreeBSD munchin' on SAGE was love, the pure WIN of this new one is not to be denied its day.

Quote from: "K"errgh.....camping....eeww. >___< i be an inside person due to bad experiences at girl scout camps. at least you have better than a tent.

and a pool or two.....
and I SERIOUSLY WANNA MEET YA YA SOUND SO COOL~~~

i posted my town......what's it gonna take, my address? i'll post it, i trust you guys not to come rape me in my sleep. :3 (and in nej's case, he might not be able to make it here :3)

THIS WILL SOUND WEIRD
BUT I BE CURIOUS MONKEY
FEEL FREE TO SAY STFU GTFO
BUT I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU BE CALLED OFFLINE

that was supposed to be my middle name! but the hospital screwed up and it wasn't on my birth certificate. xD

BWAHAHAHA I AM AN OUTDOORSMAN!  Well, I've logged over two hundred nights of camping, so I guess that counts?  Plus I was a Boy Scout for more then a decade.

There is a pool, in my backyard.  It's a pain, and always seems like a dangerous mission to prepare it for use.
SECOND

It looks like my only long distance trip in the future will be to Tennessee; if I'm lucky :\  Also, I've given enough hints to find my specific town, but if you could actually find my house..... congrats....

Well, my names are both pretty generic so I feel pretty safe.  My first name's John, after several generations of guys named http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McDonald_(Maryland_politician)
after this dude.  Though since that's my father's name too, most people use my middle name (Nathan) or Mickey D's.  Or the Colonel.  Yes, in real life too.

I feel your pain.

Quote from: "Bella"Camping is... interesting. I've never been on a real honest-to-goodness tent camping trip although things do get a bit rough even with a motorhome (as in, no access to water/electric. Although even then we have water tanks and a generator). But it is strange how being parked out in the middle of nowhere with complete strangers "living" next to you is supposed to qualify as a fun thing.

I'm so shocked that Gary Coleman and Dennis Hopper are gone. I didn't even hear about it until I read this thread... D:

It's only fun if you're really into being outside in the dirt with only some canvas or nylon between you and weather.  If not, its hell on earth.  Motor homing had never been a particular interest of mine, but going out in the middle of nowhere with my 5'x5' tent (psst, I'm 5'11") is certainly something I like to do.

I heard on the radio.  And like 9/10ths of the population immediately said "What 'cho talkin' 'bout?"

Chocofreak13

;_____; now we'll never hear that line again....

i used to know a guy named jon, and john was my uncle's name, but everyone called him jack. :3 he was nice, i heard. ^^

i am used to larps so camping at campgrounds i've gotten used to. it's the whole dirt-in-your-bed thing that gets to me a bit. and FUKIN MOSQUITOS I'M BARELY OUTSIDE YET I'M COVERED IN BITES RIGHT NOW WTF >:V

mosquitos should not exist, nor green flies. >___<

bell, i will pm you. :3 cause the curiosity will bother me if i don't. xD

and you'd like it here (technically i'm replying from my brother's house but you'd like it here too :3), there's fields, and stone walls and forests and DAISIES AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE OwO (it's like snow. :3)

and other stuff. so yeah, i'm find yee and hang out. :3
sides, if we get to know each other enough there could be a trip to japan in it for ya...... xD (cause my friend mel can't go .___. so i thought you might like to. :3)

we have no more than dinky inflateable pool that coms up about to my knees. >___< we live near a lake, but it's the town lake so that section of it is all gross. >___<
beach trips are go, as last year we went about every week and had so many people that someone was always in the trunk (we fought over who got to sit there cause it was awesome. xD) and sides, BEACH = SKEEBALL~~~

welcome back, von. ^^

You really do like to read, don't you? I dun get the avatar. ;.;

Tennessee, eh? I'm going off to tour the Northeast in a little over a month now... in early July. Which means weeks worth of internet-inaccess, but when I do return I shall have AWESOME TALES TO TELL and photographs too~!

Somehow I always thought you name was Nathan. Ye must've mentioned it... know you mentioned the McDonald part before.

Um... all my names are very ungeneric... my first name is some old Latinized name from an Ethiopian title meaning "queen mother" and its a lovely name but people like shortening it to "Candy" or "Dacey" and thus pissing me off. The middle one was given to me by my brother after the lead singer of a rather strange 1980s dance band called Dee-Lite and my last name... well, let's just say it's wildly stereotypically Russian-sounding. And this is AFTER my great-grandfather changed it from "Barrowskivitch".

Motorhoming, it combines the fun of being outdoors with the comfort of staying in a hotel/apartment. I like the outdoors (otherwise I wouldn't be an avid walker/hiker/snowboarder/biker/swimmer/kayaker) but it's nice having a shower and microwave and warm bed to come back to at the end of the day. That being said, I do get why tenting appeals to a lot of people...

You really tall. :V

Hey, I've an uncle John too.

It's strange, I haven't been bitten once my a mosquito or black fly this year. O.o

My name should be fairly obvious at this point, at least the first and middle ones. ^^;;

Of course I'd like it, I like most of New Hampshire. A trip to Japan?! Too bad I'm working this summer, waaaah. ;o;

The pool here was a bubbling broth of greenish-brown water (iron from the well reacted with the chemical cleaners) but it seems to have cleared up... it was strange swimming in it, though. Couldn't even see my feet, it was so murky. o.o But we have a lot of rivers and ponds around here to go swimming in too...

Yep!

Aw that'd be fun. :B Someday, someday, we'll hold an OSCer Convention and all hang out together...!

Aurora Borealis

I wish I could go to that hypothetical OSC convention, but too bad I live 800+ miles away from everyone else!

Sounds like you have a really cool name, Bella!

Hey, I live an entire ocean away, and it sure as hell didn't stop me. -w-

@bella: NO YOUR NAMES ARE NOT OBVIOUS I'M RATHER OBLIVIOUS MONKEY CHIKEN COW

i like the outdoors. ^^ i guess i'm ok w/ camping, dun know what was going through my mind when i posted that. but i have a bad back so i don't like sleeping on the ground >____< and i is not ok with going to bathroom behind trees. ;___;

but i love exploring woods and the like. most of my time spent at said larps involves exploring the forgotten trails and secret spots of the place. :3

the japan trip is (hypothetically) 1.5 weeks in august, probably during O-Bon. (early aug.)
Dee-Lite was from the 90's, dear~

and i'm about 5'11" too .___.

@nejin: exactly! COME BACK NEJIN WE'RE GONNA GO TO THE BEACH AND YA CAN SIT IN THE TRUNK owo
@everyone else:

@Aurora: I'd like to think my name is awesome, if only because it's not uber-common.
@Choco: C'mon, a little googling would probably clear things up. :V
The one thing that's always disturbed me the most about camping is lack of bathrooms. There's a lot of things I can put up with, a LOT, but lack of bathrooms is not one. ><;

OMG, I love exploring the woods too! ^^ Hmph, I thought they were from the late 80s through the early 90s.

Really? Now I feel like a little person. ;; (I'm 5'6'', but can easily do 5'7'' or 5'8'' on heels or in boots or whatever. People tend to think I'm "tall", I don't get it.)

Oh yeah, and in case I forgot to mention: I'M DOG FFFFCKKING SICK. The Complainer must've given me his cold. ><;;;

Since this is Topicless...

Why have I never seen the phrase "made of Win and pancakes" tossed around ever?

Yessss, very much.  Binghamton Whalers hockey!

Hopefully, one of my best friends from high school lives there now.  AND YOU BETTER SHOW AND TELL!

Maybe? Mhmm, that I know.

Your first name.  I knowz it.

Its the comradarie and the songs.  And frequently uncomfortable sleeping conditions.

Not especially ^^'

Awesome.  Nobody ever calls me Jack though, guess it doesn't really fit.

Apparently there's a larp group where I go to school, which tempts me to take my full gear loadout.  Because nothing says fantasy roleplaying like BDU's and an M16.  TINY BUGS ARE THE WORST, NATS AND THE LIKE ><

Indeed.

Funny camping/water quality story time.  Two years ago where I went to scout camp, they'd built the whole shebang in the basin of an abandoned iron mine from the 1800's.  There was still a lot of iron in the ground.  Everywhere there was a tap, it was stained red-brown from the iron content.  Which isn't terribly dangerous but not terribly pleasant either.  Also, it almost made me punch a guy for being a smart ass.

That's pretty decently tall, even without boots or heels.  Maybe you're just imposing.

Oh no!  Allergies acting up here, but only intermitently poor.

QuoteWhy have I never seen the phrase "made of Win and pancakes" tossed around ever?

Good question

NejinOniwa

Because win is obviously made of fire and explosions, which would burn the pancakes and make them not delicious and therefore not win, thus ruining the metaphor.

Also, on Bella's name: Curious, I ventured to Wikipedia for answers, and soon found myself enclosed in a grave wikiwalk encompassing mostly chinese things. (I seem to do this a lot recently)
YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

wiki walks are alsmost as nice as real ones. you learn stuff you never even knew you wanted to know!! xD

@bella: i still don't know it. and there there dear, *hug* summer colds suck but take some nyquil and you'll be fine. just don't go into school like that, i've learned my lesson on that one already ^^;

were they from then? all i know is that their big hit was circa 1996. ANOTHER THING TO WIKI WALK~!

hope you feel better. :[ i should bring you down here (my house OR bro's house), there's lots of woods to explore. ^^
you're taller than my mom.....

@stew: most of the camping i do is either on people's couches, in their cars or during larps, which nine times out of ten = indoor plumbing. as long as i have a roof over my toilet, and my pillow to sleep with, i can survive anywhere. ^^

gotta love the iron oxide in the water. used to make pottery with it. and since there was some left over on my fingers when i went to lunch, i have learned that it is tangy. :3

so guize, after getting bored/frusterated with the damn flash program crashing every 5 seconds, i decided to satiate my curiosity and look up the meaning of the names i'd like to give prospective children. so far, i have
milo: merciful (male, german/english origin)
vincent: conqueror (male, english origin)
simon: hear/listen (male, hebrew/english origin)
charlotte: manly (female, french/english origin, feminine form of charles, sometimes meaning feminine)
samantha: listen, name of god (female, hebrew origin)
ophelia: help (female, greek origin, from the word ophelos)

EDIT: if i have a girl, i was gonna name her charlotte, but have the middle name be meiji, which means "peace and enlightenment".

oh and i was staying over at a friend's house during the weekends and we tried to do an all nighter with fatal frame 4. We had mac and cheese and a ton of tacos for snacks, all made by me. \o/

too bad we got knocked out by 4-5 am XD
My my, aren't you lovely~

stewartsage

Pillows are for the weak.  Or the sane.  Or even the semi-sane, pretty much everbody to be honest, though folded blanket are my preferred head rest.

Interesting, Charlotte's a good name (as it graces two of my laptops) but I'm pretty partial to Lydia, Abigail, Katharine, Samuel, John (Cue "Tradition" from Fiddler on the roof), and Freel.

But all they'd do would be make cryptic comments at you Zen D:
