QuoteI didn't see hiking survivalist Puppy-chan coming! Too cuuuuuute!  I love her Aleutia backpack XD

And in a couple of hours? That's great!

Thank you, Bella-san.  ^^
However,....... you do know who Puppy-chan is cosplaying, right?  It's kinda 10x times as cute if you do -- certainly would explain the strange clothing and the USB umbrella and,... well,... also my presence.  ^.^

In any event, I'll be loading up the "Special Sauce" shortly.  ^__^

QuoteIt's a carbon-footprint free computer!

I have another link to the Aleutia that REALLY shows how awesome the Ultraportable package is.  Stand-by for upload in T-Minus,... whatever....  ^___^'

QuoteWell, these are certainly steps in the right direction

As much as I hate to admit it, MinWin is starting to intrigue me...

Fufu,... well one of the comments indicated that,... if M$ was desperate to come out with a better product in so little time, they could just yank FreeBSD, stuff Windows API's into it, then just disguise the whole thing so that it looks homebuilt.  Course,... then it'd have to be called "WinOSX"... fufufu....  ^v^;

Added after 3 hours 42 minutes:

Okay,...

Time to unload the goods.... ^^

First, a finalized Aleutia-promoting PuppyLinux-tan:

Then, the super secret Sauce available to download and modify GPL style:

Then, a link to remember for my soon-to-be Small Form Factor Identification Project:

And then....

Sleep.  ^^'

Vaguely...someone from Ranma ½?

*goes off to Wikipedia*

And yet another piece of the puzzle falls into place! :P

That would be the final sign of the apocalypse O_______________O

And I'll check out that vector sketch...those clouds interest me....;)

Hi hi hi!!!
Sorry, just quickly passing through!  Busy as a Bee today,... worked on Linux stuff yesterday evening, so didn't have a chance to post earlier....
Will do so tonight,... have OODLES of stuff to reply too.  ^.^;

In the meantime, just dumping these here since I don't have my UsB stick here:

And dug up this rather interesting article as well....

Back yet again, but still WAY behind (currently helping out getting PCLinuxOS fully compatible with my darling EeePC-chan.  ^^

Speaking of which, I reckon she qualifies as a lower-power, SFF laptop so might as well mine a few links for her too.  ^^

Start with this one that I loved today....

All these articles make me feel like my computers are HUGE! I can't decide if that's in a good or bad way, though :P

At any rate, I have a conspiracy theory: If Google is big on open-source and Linux....I think Yahoo is supporting MS...

Hear me out...They recently ran articles critical of Apple products, and in their recent low-price laptop article, there was nary a murmur about any of these low-price Linux machines that have been cropping up. What think you?

C-Chan

I think it might be a way to butter up relations for a repeat of this little fiasco;

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/04/microsoft-pursues-yahoo-takeover/
http://blogs.computerworld.com/node/5474

Course if that were ever to come to be, so long faithful webmail address.  ^^;

Course, it could just be the pursuit of common interest.  Yahoo is proprietary and still runs on proprietary systems, whereas Google is a strong proponent (and beneficiary) of open source.  So for Yahoo to promote open source systems might be like a competing farmer watering his rival's crops.  Similar conspiracy theories have been labeled at Dell and their botched attempt at selling Ubuntu machines -- of course they never intended to make them front-page material because they could theoretically undermine their business (you know,... get people used to the concept of replacing their PCs every 10 years, rather than 2 or less.  ^^;

Bella

Hmmm...I knew my 'spiracy sense was tingling for a reason!

In light of this and my boycotting M$ policy...

*To the Gmail!*

No, I dunno yet. I hate changing email addresses : |

C-Chan

Me too,... I've kept mine for years and still can't fathom the thought of switching.  TT;
But if pushed into a corner,... maybe.....

In any event, found a very interesting opinion piece on the OLPC + Windows here, although the comments for me are the true highlight:

http://www.linuxtoday.com/infrastructure/2007120601326NWHWMS#talkback_area

While it's not altogether impossible to strip-down XP enough to fit within such limited hardware, what would happen with the software,... and how do they hope to do this when they plan to discontinue support for XP next year?  Sad too that they can't even fathom the thought of using Windows 2k or Windows 98 instead.

Suddenly, there seems to be a motive why they're so interested in making MinWin as light as possible.  Perhaps a tacit acknowledgment that the future could very well belong to smaller, lightweight, energy-efficient, portable devices?  (one could draw tons of parallels with cars right about now... ^^')

Also,... while they're not officially club members,.... here's a bit of interesting OS/2 news:

Oh, wow....I really hope they open source OS/2!

It would be the closest thing we'll probably ever see to open source Windows...! But considering IBM, I wouldn't get my hopes up : |

As for the Everex gOS laptop...awwww....I gotta admit I was hoping it'd be a bit...bigger...;) I'm quite used to desktop replacing laptops, and our 14'' notebook even seemed tiny to me not to long ago...

C-Chan

GAAAAAAAAAH!!!  XvX

*collapses*

....I thought you'd be a little happier that the Everex lappy were a mini... and cheap at that.  ^^;

But don't let your guard down,... this is BIG news, and you can bet our good friends at Redmond will scratch, claw and spit to get at a piece of the action... ASAP.    ^___^

QuoteOh, wow....I really hope they open source OS/2!

Me neither, but then a few years ago Sun open sourcing Java would've been unheard of.  Plus I saw the original letter sent to the IBM execs, and it does at least suggest particular components of OS/2 that are [supposedly] 100% IBM owned, and thus have no M$ weight to them.  But yes,... as one of the authors correctly pointed out,... what incentive do they have to go back and sift through 20 years of notes and JUNK -- potentially landing themselves in legal problems even with a minor slip-up -- just to open source something they'd rather forget forever and ever to begin with?  ^^;

... T_T
Like Senpai said, there's way too much politics involved in this to hope. I hoped for a long time (and still do, to some extent) but IBM drags their feet, so to speak. I think I pretty much gave up all logical hope when they withdrew support and whatnot. The whole thing is a big mess, I don't think even they know what all is going on. As far as I can tell, they don't have any PR people for it, and almost all the original developers are long gone. It's a tangled web, and one that I don't think will be undone, sadly. Ah, well. Guess I'll have to live with my old beta CD. ^.^

Can I be a member as well? I sure hate Windows Vista for being bloated, DRM-ridden, unfree, buggy, activation-requiring and cycles-wasting! And 98 for similar reasons (but even more because I have to use it sometimes)!
