Quote from: Goujer on April 24, 2026, 05:01:29 PMMoseko and Gigeko I def think are a bit underrated, and I love their designs.
I also think the Futaba Seven-tan is not nearly as popular as she could be simply because Nanami exists.
If you want to talk about heavily underrated though, most OS-kuns get a pretty short end of the stick. 95-kun, Me-kun and Mac OS9-kun I think all deserve a bit more love. I love 95-kun so much.
Quote from: oobabasama on April 24, 2026, 09:25:37 PMObaba is greatly popular in the Eastern fandom but doesn't get much attention in the Western fandom by comparison
Always fun to see obscure or underrated OS-tans.
QuoteSome depictions of 98-tan show her to be a futanari (hermaphrodite). This is problematic as the character is depicted as underage, and sexual depictions or discussion about the genitals of minors is bad. Some non-pornographic OS-tan comics have even used this trope by questioning characters, such as Homeo's, sexuality for having feelings for 98-tan.Why is this necessary? I understand (even if disagreeing with) the author's opinion but this passage applies modern-day progressive Western moral standards to a work fundamentallyc onstructed outside of that framework on a Japanese imageboard in the early-to-mid 2000s. Even bypassing the moral mismatch at hand here editorializing in this way is quite uncalled for. It's a bit insensitive
This section is meant to inform and provide context for these depictions while acknowledging their problematic nature.

Quote from: Lily1027 on April 22, 2026, 02:36:37 PMI also do whenever I have some Windows, I always set up as wallpaper an OS-tan that is a personification of that Windows.I used to do this so committedly. Now days I just have all my OS-tan wallpapers shuffled and I see them all. It used to make more sense when I was using XP, 7 and 8.1 on different machines. Now most things I use are 10, so I include all my -tan and -kun wallpapers regardless of if they fit the OS.
Quote from: VonDaab on April 24, 2026, 03:29:37 AMMCE especially was quite niche OS. Lot of people who used regular XP had already the tools to do the same exact things as MCE was built for. I remember streaming TV broadcast over internet in VLC back in XP days. And VLC could do all the movie playback anyways.I worked IT for neighborhood friends back in the day and there were so many MCE installs on family computers, Dell and HP especially. I don't think most of them realized it was different from Home Edition.
