late to this, but duuuuude, you bought a house!? cool!!

hope all your homeowner-based dreams come true. i forget, are you outside of the US? cause i mean, buying a house is already like, "woah that's a lot of money", but the US lately has been INSANE in terms of CoL...

like i was browsing apartments last week and in my area it's over $1600 for a studio.

to think, at one point my dad thought they went for $400/mo....this was pre-insane-inflation but they still cost like, $950 and up at that point lol

I'll do a write up later but have an improved ENIAC-tan concept.

Cool this OS-Tan is doll-like could you explain why this OS-Tan is doll-like? I think this is awesome.

Quote from: stewartsage on June 03, 2025, 09:13:59 PMAwwww, kitty IAS and the ladies~!  Is she wearing cat sized glasses or are they markings around her eyes?

Cat sized glasses. Like SAGE-tan, the glasses are one of the two distinctive visual features by which I recognize Whirlwind-tan. (Like SAGE-tan, the other is the hair ribbon. ;3)

Quote from: stewartsage on June 03, 2025, 09:13:59 PMMmmm, her as a doll is fitting what with the "primitive" nature of ENIAC as still being tube based and fairly simple.  Much larger scale than GENIAC though, fittingly.  The button panels are a fitting detail.  Invasive.
The doll-like nature of ENIAC-tan could - probably should - be an allusion to ENIAC's relative simplicity, but I also chose it (at Halian's suggestion) to hint at something otherworldly or transcendental about ENIAC-tan. A play both on the revolutionary and one-of-a-kind status of ENIAC, and the walled garden in which it resided (and the proprietary philosophy that it might have passed down if fate hadn't intervened).

I've also thought about how to involve ARM history into a hypothetical Mac OS X 11-and-onward-tan. (Or -tans.) But I haven't gotten beyond "possible friendship with RISCOS-tan"...

The -tan of something older and rarer, and one I've used this year. :)

Quote from: stewartsage on June 03, 2025, 09:06:40 PMWell, PDP-8 has a lot of kids already with the various OSes, I can easily see her teaming up with Selectric, who's a pretty affable guy to bring a joint DEC/IBM into the world for no other reason then it would be fun!

Obsessed with PDP-8-tan and Selectric-kun overcoming a decade of DEC-IBM enmity through the power of "it would be fun". But where is LINC-tan in all this? :O

Quote from: Bella on June 01, 2025, 08:46:09 PMHonestly ... I would be game if I had ideas. Most of what I know about Windows 11 centers on tightened security, reduced user customization, recording everything the user does, and AI integration, which I feel like you could spin into OS-tan design concepts. (Right off the bat I see her as a dominant and surveilling type. Yandere anyone?) I don't know I want to give myself a headache figuring out how generative AI maps into OS-tan terms though.
You know more than I do, but yandere definitely fits that description well.

Quote from: Bella on June 01, 2025, 08:46:09 PMI wouldn't mind taking a stab at post-Mavericks Mac OS X releases. I feel a bit bad saying it but a lot of the newer OS X releases have run together in my mind. I've thought making one encompassing Mac OS X-tan to cover the ARM releases, though I realize that's very against tradition.
Once I stopped using it I totally lost track.  Although now that we've had an up-close encounter with ARM history maybe...
