Yeah, we heard they had her under restoration!  Glad she's finished.

That's a *really* pretty part of the state. Not sure I've been to Madison itself but I visited Sandwich, Conway & North Conway on different occasions and liked them... that said I've spend enough time in the city that I'm not sure I could go back to rural/small town living.

Southern NH might be more our speed. Also the metropolitan areas of Vermont (such as they are), we really enjoyed it when we visited last year.

hahaha, you could move to my town. god knows there's enough fancy condos going up around here. and iirc Lowell has some national historic sites and is only about 20 minutes away by car, so the job opportunities are right there.

that said, Salem's becoming HELLA gentrified....it doesn't feel like my hometown anymore. we have a Shake Shack now, which is cool, but it's becoming a place i feel too poor to live in, like the cool Salem.

one of my sisters lives on Cape Ann. it's pretty metro and you could live by the sea. property values are through the roof, though. : \

Quote from: Bella on June 08, 2025, 11:41:00 PMCongrats on the house Kraus!!

It's crazy. When I moved 8 years ago my 1bed/1bath apt was like $1500. Went up to nearly $1800 by the time I moved out. We're in a bigger apartment now and most of the time I think it'd be cheaper to just have a mortgage. Dunno where we'd want to settle down; we like this area, but I also yearn for New England. T_T

oh dude, a mortgage would def be cheaper. i've done the math on that several times over. were it not for the Air B&B boom, i'd suggest moving to my sister's area up north since she got her house for a song....ofc, that's also dependent on how much you have left over to heat the damn thing (she's got 4500 sq ft and the temp with wind chill gets into the -30's F), and if you plan on having kids (theirs is the worst school district in the state). i couldn't in good conscience direct you there unless those two things weren't an issue.

that said, if you're ever approved for this kind of thing, Madison, NH is super nice. a little pocket of liberal amidst the republican north, and super pretty. :0

Congrats on the house Kraus!!

Quote from: Chocofreak13 on June 06, 2025, 09:42:17 AMlate to this, but duuuuude, you bought a house!? cool!!

hope all your homeowner-based dreams come true. i forget, are you outside of the US? cause i mean, buying a house is already like, "woah that's a lot of money", but the US lately has been INSANE in terms of CoL...

like i was browsing apartments last week and in my area it's over $1600 for a studio.

to think, at one point my dad thought they went for $400/mo....this was pre-insane-inflation but they still cost like, $950 and up at that point lol
