As it's been established, I appreciate all OSes*. I feel OSX Snow Leopard and Windows 7 are probably the best OSes I've used since Windows 2000, while MS-DOS 6.22 is the queen of all versions of DOS I've used over the years, and as far as Linux goes, I'm quite fond of Fedora with the LXDE interface.

As far as hardware, I'm open to most brands aside from eMachines and most no-names (AMS Tech being an exception, when they still existed). I'm not too fond of Dell, mostly because of bad experiences with their products from about '01 onward (Literally everything they built from when the "Dell Dude" ad campaign started on into modern day), and partially due to the fact they are literally the Chevrolet of computers in my area; you see them everywhere, so I usually try to avoid them.

*Except Windows 8. After using that, I actually have a little more respect for RedHat 5.2 now

oh, we're talking computer preferences now?

i'm not fond of mac outside of my ipod. what macs i do like are limited to OS9, since the macs in my elementary school were OS9 and i have slight fond memories of it. plus the -tan and -kun (especially -kun >w> ) for it are cute. the macs at school annoy me due to me being unfamiliar, the school being stigmatized to anything BUT what's popular, and the range of programs for macs being so expensive and narrow compared to its competitors. i don't have the money to change out programs every couple of years, nor would i want to (why fix what isn't broken?).

as for hardware, PCs again, except for gothpod. i will make a concession to macs that their cooling system is genius (GENIUS!!) but that's where my mac love ends, except for gothpod. my computers of choice are IBM (when they were still made, Lenovo can suck it), HP, Compaq (somewhat.....not really), and Gateway (though this is more nostalgia). i'm not fond of Dells, because though i've known them to last several years, they're quite cheapo from my experience and deteriorate at a much faster rate than other brands (compare a Dell from 2005 to TK, and TK blows them out of the water, surprisingly enough). i get bad vibes from Acer and Toshiba, too, but that's mainly because they strike me as cheeeeap.
i don't really have any no-name brands, except Timmy, who is a Tiger. (PC.)

i had a great day today. :3

TBH, I've gone 3 years owning a Mac and haven't paid 1 cent for software. I have two pirated pieces of software - Photoshop CS4 and VMWare Fusion - but everything else is free and open source or freeware.

Then again, I've haven't bought much in the way of software for any of my computers, Mac, Windows or other. Probably helped by the fact that I don't game, try to seek out FOSS alternatives when I can and am not averse to piracy, though.

Krizonar

I would rather have 5 excellent programs than 5,000 bad ones. You only need one program for each task if each program is perfect.

Chocofreak13

@kriz: and all of my freeware programs kick ass. you don't have to pay for something for it to be good.

@bella: pirated aside, the stigma at my school goes that if you don't use what everyone else is using (ergo, macs and adobe), you suck. which i don't like.

And to think that I went to an elitist school...
Certainly, there were the snobs, but you could very well make your way going against the current, and still be friends with most of said snobs. They'll probably just tease you about it, or give you a weird look like they do the other strange people that exist here in southern california. haha

Started my holiday job 3 days ago and am quite tired since (first two days: eight hours kneeling with an angle grinder polishing paint off two long metal rails which are embedded in the floor. today and tomorrow: painting the outside staircase of the company. afterwards, hopefully working with them BIG MACHINES) The company makes automation technology, big industrial machines with robots in them :D It's quite a lot of work up to now but the people are friendly, the pay is nice and those machines are AWESOME (the robots alone cost 30K). Only drawback: getting up at 5:30 in order to be there at 7. Also, my arms and knees hurt a little.

I'm agreeing with Sleepy here... I've met Mac Snobs, and Linux Snobs, and even a few Windows and [Insert PC manufacturer here] Snobs, but they're never actually been hostile toward people who use competing products. :/

Personally I think anybody who judges a person based on their choice of computer/OS is an irredeemable d-bag with some seriously misplaced priorities, and should be avoided at all costs. =__=

Sounds cool, but pretty tough. I'm happy to hear that you're having fun at work, though. ^^

Paul

Yeah, my bones mainly hurt from not being used to so much manual work. Especially my left hand which has always been gripping the grinder. But painting is fun! (although the stairs are huge but I'm outside, nobody's bothering me and they said I could take all the time I wanted ^^ )

Nichi

@Kari: Sounds like what I dealt with at church eons ago; just replace "Apple" with "PlayStation" and "Adobe" with "Madden Football" :\

@Bella: Agreed. I hate the kind of people who judge based solely on what brand they support over another >_<;

@Paul: The job sounds nice ^_^

Dr. Kraus

As I head off to bed, i'm going to let my computer convert Hatsune Miku's 2011 concert in Sapporo into a FLAC file.

After that finishes, I'm going to chop up all the songs, tag them and then put them in one large folder.

The quality should be equal to whatever is being sold because its a really clear Blu-ray rip that I'm converting from, FLAC will just make it sound as good.

If anyone wants a copy of the final product just ask, I'll start seeding out a torrent.

This concert is WAY better than the first one, which I've been drumming to for the past 2-3 years now (I can drum the whole concert perfectly these days) with 8 strings, 1 sax and 1 trumpet. I'm doing this mainly for my own enjoyment, because drumming to these live concerts are just to much fun (its like i'm drumming at that concert, the adrenaline rush that I get is just amazing every time!) but I wouldn't mind sharing this out to everyone until a rip of the actual box set is injected into the internet (the CD box set is priced at $180, sorry but I'm not paying that much for it :P).

anyway, I'll update you all on it late afternoon (EST) about the progress tomorrow.

Night :D

Chocofreak13

if it gets to .mp3 format, i'll take a copy, please. -w-

So, on this day 10 years ago, I played Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the first time. It's been that long already? @_@

Unix-tan has escaped her usual domain, OS-tan Talk and Fanworks, and dropped by /Topicless to bring greetings of ill good will and hostility friendship.

"Is everyone having a satisfactory day?" she asks in the most cordial tone she can manage (which is to say, not very cordially at all).
