Bell Labs created Plan 9 to be a successor of Unix and to take the Unix idea of simplicity even further. Everything can be accessed as files: network connections and ressources, processes, devices, files. The name of the OS is named after the movie Plan 9 from Outer Space. | |||
Plan 9-tan is an astronaut, with bunny-ears and short white hair as references to Plan 9's mascot, Glenda. Her formal dresses, space ship and that she is a necromancer are also references to Plan 9 from Outer Space. | |||
She is very strong-willed and likes well-planned, elegant solutions but is described as 'alien' or 'just plain weird' and having no sense for aesthetics to most other OS-tans (the last one referencing Plan 9's less than elegant GUI). | |||

Plan 9-tan is one of [[UNIX | Unix's]] daughters and was to be her heir. She admired Unix at first and wanted to be just like her (referencing Plan 9 being 'more Unix than Unix') but disagreed with her actions during the Unix wars. She did not want to be Unix's heir if it meant going against her own ideals, conforming to the things she hates and having to harm her family further. Plan 9-tan left and teamed up with [[FreeBSD | FreeBSD-tan]], [[OpenBSD | OpenBSD-tan]] and [[NetBSD | NetBSD-tan]] and started their own faction. | |||
She now also has a daughter ([[Inferno | Inferno-tan]]), a clone ([[Plan B | Plan B-tan]]) and a granddaughter/clone ([[Octopus | Octopus-tan]]). | |||
