  • -The de-facto mother figure of the whole Apple Family and its branches.
  • -A young hippie woman with a penchant for crafts, especially woodworking.
  • -Wears a patchy red+orange dress with a white sash, wooden jewelry and wooden shoes.
  • -Has a sweet, maternal and optimistic disposition, though was also somewhat of a prankster in her youth.
  • -Wanted to spend quality time with all of her daughters, although her health began to decline in '78.
  • -Lived to see Apple II, Apple III and Lisa, but died shortly after Mac System 1 was born. (development on the Mac started in late '79)
  • -Spent most of her time with Apple II to teach her the things that will ensure a better future for her and her sisters.
  • -Was last seen by Lisa in her final moments, and apologized to her for not being able to spend much time with her before passing away.
  • -Her body is preserved and kept in a mausoleum whose location and existence is only known to Lisa.

  • -Mentor to DOS/360, not really fond of OS/360 but tolerated her.
  • -Judged unfit for active duty, being physically weak, instead primarily worked in operations.
  • -Was nevertheless proud of being an IBM-tan.

  • -Friendly with Windows NT-tan (CTOS workstations also supported WNT).
  • -Loves rats, keeps some as pets.
  • -Supposedly the third most used workstation OS in the 1980s.
  • -Physically a young woman wearing boxy haircut/dress style.
  • -Likes to dress in military-style uniforms.
  • -Is deceased, but maintains a rather strong following.

• Quick Facts:
  • -Served as a teacher and trained several young OS-tans during her life at MIT.
  • -The adoptive mother of Multics-sama, CTSS-tan is typically considered the ultimate ancestor of Unix.
  • -Feels her greatest accomplishment in life was caring for the young (and sickly) Multics and seeing to it that she reached adulthood.
  • -Also proud of her tutelage of ITS-tan and CP/CMS-tan.
  • -Considerably less grandiloquent than her daughter, CTSS is sometimes mistaken to be a simple or dull personality-- something compounded by her emotionless demeanor.
  • -Is distant toward most people and OS-tans, at least those who aren't close friends or her student.
  • -A sinophile, she enjoys dressing in Chinese-inspired clothing and partaking in Chinese cultural activities.
  • -A daughter of Whirlwind-hime and sister of SAGE and PDP-1.
  • -Died young, in the year 1973, on the same day as Whirlwind.

  • -Wields a butcher knife and established the DEC-tan tradition of bladed weaponry.
  • -Particularly enjoys messing with Unix-sama, with whom she has a rivalry.
  • -Abusive toward RT-11, who she felt stole her userbase.
  • -A bit weak and sickly, but doesn't allow her handicaps to get in her way.
  • -Physically a short teenage girl, with short silver hair, glasses and a red and white schoolgirl-like uniform

  • -Loves baubles and adorns herself with gaudy jewelry.
  • -Obsessed with counting things, she's worked out a system of keeping track of her counts using rings on her fingers.
  • -Uses decimal, not binary as later generations of computers would.
  • -Biologically one-of-a-kind, she exerted a great deal of influence upon later computers-tans but left no actual descendants.

  • -Felt lonely as the only computer-tan in her town, something that lessened when she discovered and befriended Whirlwind.
  • -Intelligent and learned but perhaps a bit out-of-touch with the real world.
  • -Outwardly meek and withdrawn, but warms up with familiarity.
  • -A WAVES ensign, her skills were put to use by the US Navy.
  • -Mother of Harvard Mark II, III and IV.
  • -Suffered from empty-nest syndrome when her two eldest children were removed from her care and stationed in Virginia.

  • -Died 1952; she lived a short life, even by 1940s-50s standards.

• Quick Facts:
  • -Ultimate ancestor of RSX 11, OpenVMS and Windows NT-tan, and thus all modern Windows OS-tans.
  • -RW-300 was employed successfully in different chemical plants, refineries and nuclear power plants.
  • -Mysterious, known mostly for her work and not her personality. (little info on the OS, but it did make an impact on the industry)
  • -Like her daughter and granddaughter, she's a loner.
  • -A very skilled chemist, has skills bordering on alchemy. This is a two-pronged reference; both to RW-300's use in the chemical industry AND a throwback to RSX-11-tan and VMS-sama's alchemical/geomancy skills.
  • -Has a foggy short-term memory in matters not pertaining to work. (Computer had a small memory capacity but that didn't diminish its usefulness). She's quick-thinking and fast on her feet (realtime OS).
  • -RSX 11-tan is her daughter, though RSX 11-tan doesn't know her real heritage (having only been raised in DEC by DOS Batch 11-tan). Whether RW-300-tan knew of their relationship is unknown.
  • -Has dark skin, long hair, dresses in utilitarian clothing.

  • -Came across as sort of a zealot.
  • -A berserker in battle with enemies of IBM, used tape driven weapons.

  • -Experimented in open sorcery and could manifest 'virtual' familiars for battle.
  • -Supposed to be the IBM-tan to do battle against Multics, but OS/360 could never bring herself to order her to.
  • -Not the orator of the group, and instead spent most of her time experimenting.
  • -Scheduled her day closely, and followed it.
  • -Had long blonde hair and a tan, wore frilly classical gowns comparable to Multics'.
  • -Was deemed too ambitious for her own good and developed a major inferiority complex. Ultimately abandoned and died in obscurity.

  • -Notable for her progressive attitude, love of fun, free love and debauchery.
  • -Has an affable and people-oriented personality.
  • -Friends with other free-thinking -tans of the day, like ITS-tan and Emacs-kun.
  • -A Tolkien fan, she's fluent in Elvish.
  • -Dresses in a colourful mix of 19th-century bohemian and 1960s hippie fashion.

  • -A lifelong Hub resident, she speaks with a heavy Boston accent. (tending toward a Dorchester dialect)
  • -An engineer by trade .
  • -Originally a Naval reservist, later discharged and employed by the Air Force.
  • -Harbours a vendetta against the Navy, her discharge from which she took as a personal affront.
  • -Generally good-natured and genteel.
  • -Been known to display an ill temper at times.
  • -Played an instrumental part in the creation of two of her three children.
  • -Considered creating and raising SAGE her life's motivation.
  • -Work kept her away from SAGE, but the two managed to keep a good rapport.
  • -Spent more time with her other children, PDP-1 and CTSS.
  • -Employed and in good health until 1959.
  • -Was subject to a series of experimental surgeries. (the TX-0 Project)
  • -These extended her life (and led directly to PDP-1's birth), but stressed her system. Spent the next decade or so in and out of a coma.
  • -Died 1973.
  • -Dons ornate 19th century-style gowns (labcoats while on the job), vacuum-tube inspired jewelry, tied her long hair in braids and with ribbons. Wears glasses.

• Quick Facts:
  • -Somewhat neurotic and depressed.
  • -Spent most of her career unappreciated, but mentally clinging to her importance.
  • -GECOS' adoptive daughter.
  • -Possibly a complex about the various Secretaries of Defense.
  • -Has some trouble managing data and messages, but try's as hard as she can with limited resources.
  • -Feels guilty about the USS Liberty incident, and the congressional censure.
  • -Gets along with most OS and hardware -tans. (The DoD used a variety of systems as part of WWMCCS)
  • -Felt redeemed by her performance in Desert Shield and Desert Storm after her modernization.
  • -Crushed by the 'rejection' of the SecDef to modernize her again after the Gulf War.
  • -Disappeared from her DoD office sometime in 1996, hasn't been seen since, unknown if it was of her own free will.
  • -Is presumed to be deceased.
  • -Wears rings on each finger that allowed for data control and manipulation.
  • -Missing an eye, wore an eyepatch, and appeared to be sleep-deprived.
  • -Wore civilian business attire.

• Quick Facts:
  • -The only Unix allied with Microsoft, she was unconditionally devoted to the company.
  • -Considered a traitor by her fellow Unix-tans, which led to her death.
  • -Acts as a loyal custodian to the early Microsoft/IBM family -tans: Altair 8800, MS- and PCDOS, Windows 1.0, 2.0 and OS/2-tan.
  • -Has a cheerless, austere personality, yet was surprisingly gentle with her charges.
  • -A skillful melee fighter, she was employed as an assassin (her choice weapon being a wire garrote).
  • -Retired from Microsoft and never got to see the family she loved so much grow in power and influence.
  • -Felt it was her duty to fight in the Unix Wars, even at the cost of raising her daughter, SCO Unix.
  • -Was sent to fight in the front lines of the war, where she was killed in action.
  • -Missed by few and largely forgotten.
  • -Has shoulder-length blue hair, hazel eyes, during her time at Microsoft wore a maid-like uniform and bonnet.
