QuoteI take it you did catch the hyperlink, right? 'Cos without it, it's nowhere near as funny ^__^'.

Actually didn't,... but still, that thing's bigger than I am, so it would've just confuzzled me.  TT'

QuoteHopefully this will teach you to never joke of seppuku again, because without yourself and Tux-sensei, how can I ever hope of achieving basic Linux mastery?

Resistance is Futile.  I will probably attempt seppuku as often as you brush your teeth (and you'd always have Mr. Shuttleworth, the anti-Gates, to help).  -v-

Besides, if you lost a series as grandiose as Lovely Complex, you'd be there right with me.  ;~;

A series like that will never show again in a thousand years,....

And that theme will never ever EVER be approached here in the West (or at least in the States).  It's ironic that the subject seems far more taboo in our media than in Japan.  ;__;

QuoteYay for FMA, hopefully you haven't heard so much hype about the series that it's ruined for you. I, in particular, loved it - there are a bunch of haters in my anime club though. It was great and for awhile nearly ousted my all-time faves FLCL and Trigun. Anyway, can't wait to hear your feedback on it.

I'll have ol' Red with me at all times... ^__^

...but I trust I'll like it since you and Bella-san do.  ^^

I've read a description on Wikipedia, but could you tell me just what it is that is so taboo about this story?  I do know that there really hasn't been that many shojo series in the United States, but I really don't know what to say about anywhere else.  Speaking of FMA, I myself was pretty surprised that it made its way over here.  Being that the series is full of witchcraft, violence, and gore - all with a plot centered around to young alchemists.  Even more surprising is that English VA Vic Mignogna did the voice of one the main characters and actually enjoyed it.

Sit down, my son.... -v-

*pads chair next to him*

If you've lived as long as I have with my particular,... lifestyle preference (some would say handicap),.... you'll come to notice that exceptionally tall woman are highly discriminated against in our culture.  Actually, that's the same thing all over the place (except maybe Montenegro and Holland).  But certainly in the case of the States where female empowerment has been expounded for the past two decades, it seems odd that media outlets continue to work against this.

I want strong, responsible, intelligent female lead characters (like the kind I find in most modern Anime), and all I get are a continuous, non-stop barrage of buxom smartasses.  T__T
And if I at least want a TALL buxom smartass for an onscreen heroine, forgetaboutit...  Not happening.

Not unless I'm looking for a "freak" or "comic relief", and even then they make sure she's only sliiiiiiiightly taller than the male characters (or shorter, in the case of Lucy Lawless' roles in Xena).  It's almost as if the directors themselves are insecure men (imagine that...  ^^'), but any attempt at this is usually half-assed and farcical (both 'Attack of the 50ft Woman' come to mind).  It's sad that I have to rely on 'Kill Bill' to see something even remotely close to my dream heroine in western media.  T___T'

I expected this more from Anime, but instead I found a veritable wealth of female characters that I spent half my life looking for.  ^__^
And while there is the same RL stigma of height, I'm proud to see series like Lovely Complex confront this "in-your-face" style and embrace it beautifully-enough to make it work so damn well!  ^0^

No doubt if I had watched this in my youth, I would've been inspired to approach my first true love.  ^___^

Sadly, I was outgunned and outclassed by the same meritocracy that probably still affects lots of young boys like I was, plus an innumerable number of young girls who are unfortunately taught, through very subtle and almost imperceptible means, to despise themselves.

Don't know what else to say,... all the memories of frustrated love and emotionally-unstable girlfriends is getting me pissed off.  T__T

QuoteAwww...why not watch some Cowboy Bebop or FMA to cheer up

...Dispite it being one of my all time favorite animes and some masterful story and character writting, why the HELL would you give ti to someone to CHEER them up?!  Seriously.  Not very cheery. Not even close.  Some of the plot twists were so deliciously horrible they put me in a dipressed funk for a week after watching them.  I, If i have have kids, will not allow them to watch it untill they reach and appropriate age to watch rape violence and gore.

oh and, I think everyone is making to big a deal on that news link.  it IS a technical issue.  In a camera shot it is every difficult to get someone in the same close up shot as someone a foot shorter then them.  I dont care about height, (tho I feel Im too tall hitting my head on things) and I see it for a the technical issue it is.  The reporter that publiched that article should be dragged out behind a building and beat.  Here he is basicly publicly riduculing a man for his height just to get a story that people would over react to.  What media will do for a story...

Biscuits of Bull,... I reiterate the comment that he didn't have to be "taller" than her, certainly not stratospherically-so.  I wouldn't have mattered eye level.  Besides, the fact remains HE didn't find anything wrong with that, YOU certainly didn't find anything wrong with that,... and I can bet my bacon SHE didn't have anything wrong with that either.  Because that's what they grew up with, that's normal, etc,... and to the young people that have to live in their wake and feel like freaks, tough #$@%.

Surely you've come across instances where you'd love to do something, but deprive yourself of it because it isn't acceptable -- even  if it involves harming no one and no such.  Certainly it's not like dragging someone else behind a building and beating them to a pulp.  TvT

I will grant you one thing,... reporters are trash and I wouldn't be surprised if this story was only tabloid material.   That's usually where you find stories like this anyway.

But I've lived through enough personal experiences to know that this "complex" exists and leads people to do and say very nasty things to women like her.  They cannot just "not care about height", if every person, media outlet and clothing store they encounter rams it in their face, very often in the most negative connotation.  It sickens me, but also makes me feel helpless, since any effort to help is like fighting against an opposing current.

QuoteI reiterate the comment that he didn't have to be "taller" than her

Thats how high the stinking box was.  Im sure while trying to set up this interview they didnt sit there looking around for whatever item just happened to be 3 inches taller.  Someone said, ahy, he is too short fo r this shot, find something for him to stand on. the nearest camera man grabbed the nearest box and he stood on it.  Thats how i see it going down. I dont see a mass conspiricy to make women feel small by stratigicly finding a box that made him taller then her.

And for the record, I hate being freakishly tall for a girl myself.  And everytime I complain about it someone tells me that tall girls are attractive and sought after so i really dont think the entire world is against tall girls.

The fact remains that since everyone sees conspiricy, sexual harassment or that sort of stuff in everything, that reporter that published the photo with that story was simply trying to get a reaction out of people over something that was trivial.  And he got it.  Thats how they make their money.  Im sure he didnt even investigate to see the plausability of the story. The acusation with no proof was enough to get you worked up.

The media is soppose to be an unbias source of information for the public.  They arnt soppose to be a bunch of tabloid paparazi publishing accusations and bogus stories in an attempt to get people worked up and sell their paper.    Its a travisty.  I wanted to be a reporter once.  Be a becon of truth, and now I see the lies behind, they make me sick.  this is just the sort of story that reminds me of that.

I will insist that the movie aspect mentioned before is more conspirational.  But this is sadder than a purported conspiracy,... this is "ingrained".  As normal to them as night follows day, and that unfortunately puts a lot of people at a disadvantage that [quite frankly] don't deserve to be.

You also announced that your local stores had 50,000 Nintendo Wiis for sale in the middle of December and no one was buying it.  If true, I want you to go to Yahoo! Travel this instant and book me a flight to pay you a visit.  Cause BY GAWD I wanna visit this wonderful place! `v'

QuoteI dont remember saying any such thing.  I do recall saying similar about the ps3.  not that thing you could find units on the shelf 2 weeks after launch.  The Wii sells alot of consols Ill give you that.. not so much in the games department.  Most people who buy it play wii sports wii play.  They just dont buy the games after.  And alot of the 3rd party programers realy arnt producing anything good.  Hell i have a buddy that was a rabid nintendo fanboy, he just bought an 360 elite over the wii, because the total lack of concideration for those of us with high end TVs is appaling. seriosly nintendo, couldnt you have worked on your funky new controler AND upgraded your system specs?  I dont feel like buying a second game cube tnx.

actually not quite sure what you mean about this, but if your talking about good old george dubya lying about weapons of mass destruction your wrong.  If a killer hides the muder weapon and the cops never find it, does that mean it didnt exist?  The shit load of heavily laden trucks crossing into the sirian boarder while we sat in kuwaitt waiting for the order might have had something to do with it.  that and we did find rockets with traces of VX on them,  so they did once contain a chemical weapons.   Plus, again as ive said many times before, go out in the middle of the desert and try to find something that small.  dirt as far as the eye can see.  Hell we are still finding entire artillary peices and jets buried in the sand now, you think they cant hide a few canisters of cemical weapons or the core of a nuke?

Plus, just read all the conspiricy theories about the 9/11 attacks about how out goverment aranged them.  they sound plausable untill you look at the facts.  "a cruis missle hit the pentegon!  Its impact patterns and such are not right for a 747"  people cry conspiricy.  wait.. then what happend to the people of that missing 747 if it didnt crash there?  think people, think.  dont let the media sway your views with their artistic telling of half truths or lies.

Hmmm, I thought it could've been the height deal, but height in terms of sex is really not something I think about on conscious level.  Now that you mention it, makes sense, not only are female characters given any more than one dimension, but they're never seriously given any non-traditional physical characteristics.  The problem as I see it (here in the West anyway), is that the media is only reflecting the ideas of a majority of society.  It's not the media is simply trying to control what we think, it's that a lot of us, deep down, have these same hang-ups about aesthetics that are, as far as I can see, with us from birth.  Now I'm not saying it's right or anything like that, it's just that I think there's a rush to want to blame some external force for the problems we have within ourselves.  Is the mass media truly a pack of raving liars? Yes, but only because a large portion of our society wants them to, and they/we lie to themselves/ourselves daily.  It's sad really, the larger the U.S. society gets, the closer we get to self-destruction.  Anyway, I've read a few great blogs out there by terrific bloggers, but most of what you read is merely pick-and-choose facts which merely reflect the bias of the writer... be sure to take it with a grain of salt.

I want to make sure that it's understood that everything I've said about Western society, particularly the U.S., I'm also applying to myself (also I'm not trying to make a silly argument of "the great eastern culture" vs. "the scourge of the west").  There are certain hang-ups and superficialities that I'm ashamed to admit I have, and while I've known a number of people who've considered me a pretty deep and wise person, I'm truly no more deep than the morning dew on your lawn.  I'm very shallow and petty, I tend to mask it to preserve myself and others, but far too often I feel that I'm mostly guided by my own selfish ambitions and truly disregard and underestimate others.  These are personality defects that I've tried desperately to correct, but honestly, I can't see where I've grown very much.  I still find myself far too judgmental based on outward appearance, and often times I complain about not "getting any" when I really haven't given the right girls the time of day.  Perhaps I shouldn't get this personal, but I'm trying to point out something that is merely the flaw of organized society.  That our ideas aren't merely enforced by an ever-controlling media, but that what we think is highly memetic.  Whether we actively express our ideas or not, they do get through and do spread around.  The problems in our society not just lay with individuals, but groups of individuals.  What I see being the sad fact of the matter is, this is not something that can change soon (even in a decade), but something we may not be even alive to witness, as people become more open-minded and not just more tolerant, but more accepting of others' ideas, we'll start to see a change.  Anyway, I guess that's enough of my ranting...

Ahhh,... see, it's hard to admit you're wrong, so now way now I'm gonna believe the photo thing is a technical error.  ^___^

Even if you went to the desert now with a shovel, the entire country is full of spent munitions and wreckage -- hard to find a nuke now when the entire country is riddled with enough DU to make a geiger counter go nuts.  The crime scene is destroyed to get to the suspect -- not that it matters much anyway cause now everyone's interested in picking a fight with Iran.  Maybe you can ask Turkey to look for those weapons for you -- for all we know, they could be invading within a matter of hours.

9/11 didn't bring up and I'm not stupid enough to argue that with a forum Mod, so you keep that to yourself there.  In that magical world you live in, the mainstream media peddles conspiracy theories on a daily basis -- so who knows what else you've "watched". `v'

Problem is you ask people to think and not be swayed by falsehoods, but under the absolute, unequivocal assumption that you're correct.  $#@& research, #%!@ questions, if it's not to kill or beat the sh*t out of someone, it can't be true.  Inspectors didn't find weapons for the past 10 years?  BS!!  Invade anyway and come up with a reason-a-month after that!  If you're perfectly happy surrounding the world in death, but raise hell when someone suggests empowerment, something upstairs needs to be checked out, mister.  `v'

Good luck to ya.  -v-

Ive sat and thought about this for a bit, after reading your post, and I had alot of different things I could have said, but honestly they wont help the situation.  Cirtanly wont help the mood of the forum.  I will say this though, you have been around plenty long enough to relize that I have never attempted to use my mod powers in an argument over personal views.  Im not that petty.

Dispite our continual disagreement on the issues formentioned, I apologize for the things that were said that angered you and took the discussion into the argument mode.  I should have relized that you wernt enjoing a political discusion and were actually angry and genuinly arguing sooner.  For that I am sorry, please forgive my insensitivity and inability to read peoples emotions.

If you care to continue this discussion in a more appropriate place under more friendly terms let me know, I would be happy to.  If not, well I will do my best to bite my toung sooner in the future.

Please go back to trying to slit your wrists with rubarb.

So quickly:

Tall, authoritative, intelligent, outside-the-normal-gender-roll-box women: yes!

Male reporters standing on platforms: Morons.

WMDs in Iraq: I can't say I believe in them. I don't disrespect those who do believe they were there; just the evidence doesn't stack up for me.
