wow, this topic got quite long in a short time. hah

can't wait to see the short little comic thingy

I didn't even know that you could rate the pics. haha ^^;

And a random piece of info: Me is under Pacific Daylight Time, UTC -7.

yay, I am bored and posting useless info.

C-Chan

Phew,...  Finished.  'Kay, once Pitkin comes back, hopefully that folder will burst with new pictures.  I say "hopefully" cause the Windows 3.11 folder is actually not a selectable option....  @___@'

Now granted there's been no shortage of psychopathic people lately, I suppose you're right.  It might just be a minor thing that good ol' Pitkin can defÃ,Â¥ck before I draw blood.  \ _ /

But anyway, let's get back to the show before I head off to continue drawing!  ^-^

Now that you described the original story, I DO seem to recall reading about that many years ago.  The story actually took place within the Aliens timeline, so naturally humans traveled on interstellar ships and marines used those heavy-duty pulse rifles.  The story would've not only been interesting, cause let's face it,....

Alien - meh
Aliens - AWESOME!!!!!!!!!  [especially extended version]
Alien 3 - meh
Alien Resurrection - what were they smoking?  -_-'

...but it would've been a tried-and-true setting (AND already written FOR THEM!!).  And they wouldn't have had to explain why they brought weapons and VERY LIGHT CLOTHING in an Antarctica expedition.

The PG theory is the likely culprit here (and it backfired, 'cause you can still get your bucket of AVP toys for a dime); but it seems to be a trend over the years in these movies to keep characters helpless, useless and stupid (and with a healthy serving of ANGST!! >_<)  The recent version of Planet of the Apes (POTA?) for example (which did, having loved the 60's version, make - me - puke).  @___@;

Ah, you're right, there WERE really AVP PC games made for it too!  How could I have forgotten -- I remember reading about all the cool moves you could do as an Alien.  Never played either of them, but I did get to play the Jaguar version once,... for about 5 minutes.  Then I just had to contend with motion sickness for the rest of the day  ^___^;

'Kay, that's all I have to say about that.  -v-

Hey, you got the Midori no Hibi reference, so you're free to post as much stuff as you want.  ^___^
Besides, thanks to you guys, the post's already clocked in 400+ visits in a few days, so hopefully the traffic can gain Palm-chan some helpful pre-exposure.  ^___^

UTC-7, eh?  That would place you right now at about 11:34!  Cool, you're much closer to the weekend!  ^-^
See, not useless at all.  ^.^

Speaking of short comics, I mentioned in another forum that I may one day draw a dramatic CE-tan vs Palm-tan battle scene (complete with VERY a unfortunate Palm-tan host, probably Homeo).  But until I'm done with my first 5 pilot pictures, this may be a while.  Makes me wish I had my own animation staff.... ^___^

Well, that's it for now!  Thanks again for keeping the topic alive and sizzling!  ^v^

AVP 2 kicked serios ass.  I mean seriosly.  The three types of characters were fairly well balanced dispite their drastic differnecent. I played marine mostly, cus well, Im a marine. thats the way I think.  Pointy clicky shooty. Kill them before they kill you and all that jaz. Sticking to the celing, stalking people and teating them apart all ing crazy fish eye vision (ala alien 3 style) just didnt do it for me, tho I met some other people on servers that were damn good at it.  Aliens die easy, but they kill easy too, and if you can think and act like one they are a force to be reconed with in that game.  The only race that seemed a little better then the others was the pred.  With invisability, the ability to heal himelf to some degree (without finding a powerup) and his super powered weapondry he was quite clearly the strongest. However, his strengths all had their limitations and sometimes downright flaws.  He had multiple vision modes making it easy to see the other races in the dark maps, but you could only see one type at a time. If you were in thermals ("maybe they dont show up on infered at all!") the aliens didnt even need to be sneaky to remain undetected, but if you were in electromagnetic mode to see them, even a marine with a pistol could get close enough to drop one.  All the weapons and abilitys drew from the same power supply so you really had to be smart to play him too.  Use to many plasma caster shots you wont be able to heal or your cloak may drop etc..

all in all, I think it deserves an honorable mention for FPS's but it wasnt ground breaking.  However in terms of movies to games it was one of the absolue best.  I think the only other (in other peoples opinions, but I dont agree) was 007 goldeneye

But your right about the characters in that type of movie. they are always retarded.  I could survive longer then just about anyone ever cast in a zombie movie without even trying.  Speaking of that, if any of you ever pick up the zombie survival guide, go ahead and read it but if zombies do break out across the world dont listent to a word it said, its full of lies.  It was obviosly written by someone with no survival/combat/stealt or any other sort of training. It written by someone very ignorant that makes alot of deadly asumptions thats bound to get him and his family eaten.

I really cant stand the retardation of people in horror movies.  I cant even follow their train of thought most of the time.  Personaly I think they are doing man kind a favor by being eaten.

Speaking of horror movies and my love of the J Horror veriety the most, did anyone see Silent hill yet?  I loved the games because they in real time mastered the same aspects about j horror that makes it so chilling compaired to american splater horror.  A grossly mishappened madman with a chainsaw in texas in not frightening.  For gods sakes most of the time they have a god dammned gun, but they cant hit the target because the are too busy panicing!  dont run and shoot over your shoulder like the army! face them, get a good posture and put two in the chest one in the head like a marine.  even a beefy motherfucker like leatherface cant argue with a 357 magnum.  And while Im ranting, why is the hottest girl always a dirty rotten retarded bitch? And when will americans relize its not the amount of blood that makes it scary. Too much desenseitizes you too it.  And things are also not scarier by how much the lead actress is screaming.  Its just plain anoying.  And for that matter if you need something to jump out at the character to scare them your trying to hard. If done right, the monster need not jump out to scare the bejesus out of you, they can stroll slowly around the corner and the hair will be standing up on the back of your neck the entire time. For horror thrill seakers a split second of fear from a jumping monser vs the agonizingly long terror of a well built up monster, there is no contest.

wow, I had quite a rant going there, but I am so off topic it isnt even funny so... go palm-tan your the best!

Somehow I pictured you as a zombie aficionado; your horror guruhood was probably a dead giveway, no pun intended.  -v-

I'm gonna have loads of fun responding to this later, but before I do a quick question that I've always wanted to ask a zombie survival expert....

Since there's no such thing as unlimited ammo (even THEL's need a power source), would a spear or halberd thrust in the head from a high place work just as well (granted you can keep it sharpened and have LOTS of spares).  ^___^;

C-Chan added the following  10 minutes after last message :

Oh right, off-topic....

Um,... Palm-chan rulez!!  ^0^

CaptBrenden

fuck spears.  Decapitate is the way to go.  Why try to peirce the zombies head and risk not causing enough damage to kill it and be bitten?  A sledge or an axe would be much better, or a long bladed weapon. Just be sure not to pick up a mall replica as that wont stand up to much.  But Id say yor best bet would be bunt trama as it has a tendancy to liquify your jelly like brain troughly.

People have surived being stabbed in the head or even shot as the peircing fails to effect enough of the brain to kill.  Most are horribly disfigured and loose body functions (eeeewww, I ment motor control to limbs!) but I dont think zombies care about that, they already got it! But if we go with the status quo that destroying the brain kills zombies then blunt trama it is.

Easily found or acessable: hammers, tho sledges are best any will do. Baseball bats (aluminum is best as wood ones tend to shatter)  if your up high dropping large heavy objects may be good to, so if you have time to prepare, take the high ground like gettysberg and drop rocks on your flesh rotten foes.

One other thing you should concider is the speed of the zombies.  Old school move slow and can be outmonuverd by even a person with a limp as long as he has his head on his shoulders and doesnt panic.  In that case your spear idea might work (but come to think of it, why the hell would you have LOTs of spears?  and for that matter where did you get them?) However dawn of the dead redux zombies are quite differnt.  One of them running at you would be unerving enough that you have a very low probability to line up an effective attack and may just miss the head (earning yourself a zombie hicky as he will keep coming) Or possibly lodging it into another bodypart most likely the torso.  IN the later instance depending on the forward force of the running zombie (and squishyness) he may just end up on you after all as the spear just keeps going through him, getting your hands covered in zombie entrials (probobly the remains of a stupid girl from a differnt zombie movie) and yet another zombie hicky, OR your weapon will be stuck in him useless leaving you defenseless to other zombies (they always travel in packs) because his forward push will not alow you to pull the spear out (that will just bring him closer as he will follow the spear.)

So in summery, spears are for killing the horses of charging kinghts, not zombies.

Thank you, Sensei.  *sharp bow*  Ã,¯_Ã,¯

Certainly thinking only about the old-school zombies, but the faster new-school ones like in 28 days or Half-Life 2 will require a desperate rethink.

I'll be back to the answer the rest; just need to get through a little seasonable t-storms and UNseasonable hail first.  Ugh,... -__-;

Zerg = strength in numbers.

Now the Preds are reminding me of the Protoss.  @__@
It's obvious they have the same weaknesses -- powerful yes, advanced, hell yes, but also too advanced for their own good, too expensive, often times too unwieldly.

Quoteall in all, I think it deserves an honorable mention for FPS's but it wasnt ground breaking. However in terms of movies to games it was one of the absolue best. I think the only other (in other peoples opinions, but I dont agree) was 007 goldeneye

It's rare to see a movie game be just as good or better than the movie.  Even vice versa, I've never seen a movie do a game justice.  I still can't get over the number of brain cells sacrificed watching Street Fighter (1994)

QuoteBut your right about the characters in that type of movie. they are always retarded. I could survive longer then just about anyone ever cast in a zombie movie without even trying.

Like that dude in the beginning of Children of the Dead, which btw was perhaps the worst movie in history.  Even though I didn't pay a dime for it, I still felt compelled to sue.  X_X

QuoteSpeaking of that, if any of you ever pick up the zombie survival guide, go ahead and read it but if zombies do break out across the world dont listent to a word it said, its full of lies. QuoteI really cant stand the retardation of people in horror movies. I cant even follow their train of thought most of the time. Personaly I think they are doing man kind a favor by being eaten.

Should've eaten everyone in the latest 'House on Haunted Hill' and '13 Ghosts'.  Who writes this crap and where do they dig up these actors from?  X__x

QuoteSpeaking of horror movies and my love of the J Horror veriety the most, did anyone see Silent hill yet?

Nope, and really couldn't since it didn't last long in the box office.
But it seems like it didn't ENTIRELy suck, at least.  ;__;

QuoteI loved the games because they in real time mastered the same aspects about j horror that makes it so chilling compaired to american splater horror.

Didn't play 1 or 4, have 3 but have can't find the time to play it, but I at least played 2 all the way through at least once.  Yes, it was surprisingly chilly despite the few shoot 'em up moments (and it helped that I played in the dead of night).  The ambience of the underground prison morgue is timeless!  X_X

QuoteA grossly mishappened madman with a chainsaw in texas in not frightening.

Funny, though.  ^__^

The hilly-billies from that piece-of-crap Children of the Dead could've learned a thing or two from you.  If you're doing fine amassing in a group and killing zombies left and right with shotguns and from a good defensive position, then WHY do you charge at them afterwards with fists?!

Then again, considering who really wrote that script..... Ã,¬_Ã,¬'

QuoteAnd while Im ranting, why is the hottest girl always a dirty rotten retarded bitch?

With angst.  Don't forget the angst

Hence, Silent Hill's success.  ^__^

Harharhar!  ^V^
Talk about limited ammo -- in that case, they might as well be boxes of shotgun shells.  ^___^;
Then again, it reminds me of a really creative alternative used in Half-Life 2: just use a CAR to crush the bastards!  Funny as hell, though how a single reverand built that trap in a zombie-infested town needs some explaining.... ^.^

QuoteOne other thing you should concider is the speed of the zombies. Well, yeah, with the exception of Shawn of the Dead, it's a trend now in these new-fangled movies to have fast zombies.  EVERYONE's in a hurry these days,... EVEN the zombies.....

Ah, how I yearn for the good ol' days, when life was good, arcade games were 25 cents and snails could outrun zombies.  Aaaaah, those were the days........  ^___^

QuoteSo in summery, spears are for killing the horses of charging kinghts, not zombies.

Like hell I would stand in front of a charging Kataphraktoi with a mere six-foot long stick!!  \ _ /
In that case, I would use a pike.  ^___^

As I am to lazy to deal with quoting single sentances like that Ill just lump it all togeather and you all can figure out what I was responding to.

First off, not sensei.  Whats the japanese word for knowitall?

Hoo-rah? HOO-RAH?  What are you trying to do to my beloved corps?  Hoo-Ahh Is the army, OOH-RAH is the marines.  You basterdized both of them and combined them!

Actually Im quite the doom fan.  I must now start a small rant about doom.  You asked for it.

Doom, is the shit.  The original is a classic.  Wolfenstine was the birth of the FPS, but Doom made it popular. If not for doom it would never have gone anywhere.  I still play it even today.  GOt 20 minutes to blow at work, DooM time! Kick the monsters up, grab a joystick and kick it up to ultra violence and begin the run and gun.  Exept for the ocassional brain numbing puzzel that keeps you from the action for 3 hours while oyu run around the same segment of level the constant zombie and demon death action is awsome.  Truely mindless killing for the bored.  It remained relitivly unchanged throughout the years and slowly became a  thing of legends.  There were several doom games after that point, but nothing special. I even got doom 64, which i enjoyed but it was nothing but a polished version of doom. Tho I have to say I did really like the Imps in that version.  Then the gods blessed us again as doom 3 was announced.  So great the legend of doom had become the programers of ID threatened to quite if the executives didnt alow them to remake doom.  They caved in like a womans face at 40 and then the legend was reborn.  However its old run and gun was gone replaced with a level of fear and terror one never expected thinking back to the cute little pixelated pink demons.  No, now there were things in the dark that would make a grown man piss himself.  Altho I argue any marine that could keep up the level of kick as that marine did would have the smarts to duct tape the flashlight to the side of his gun, the choice between the comforting light, or the comforting firepower was a nice aspect to the game.  Now every little encounter had yo on the edge of your seat and even veteren players were prone to panic.  It was good, it was real good. THen they announced the movie and the fans rejoiced! But alas.. it was not the heavens that blessed us, but it was hell that dammned us!  Greed for more doomy goodness let out eyes turn to the capitilistic movie industry and we let them have out idol and they peversed it.  they fucked her in the ass without even a curtesy spit.  First, they cast the Rock. THE ROCK FOR GODS SAKE!  He even gave someone the eye!!!  THen they did an entire portion of the movie in FPS style to "pay homage." Your all fired. Oh, and I forgot, they took out hell!!! WTF?! WHat is doom about?  WHen you get down too it?  It didnt have much plot so it was kinda hard to miss.  Mars, UAC, Anchient teleporters, Hell, One marine with alot of ammo.  you cut hell form the equasion and its no longer doom! Its a travesty!

Actually aliens did have strength in numbers, but they also had stealth and manuverability. In multiplayer you lost number and had to rely on the later.  In that case the game shifted to ALIEN, and not ALIENS.  One creature in the darkness picking of the soft fleshys one at a time pulling them into the darkness.

GET TO THE CHOPPA! ahem.

I wasnt a huge fan of Starcraft, but I enjoyed the marines and zerg somewhat. Hated the protoss.  At least the preds didnt looks retarded.

I dont think ive seen childern of the dead, but it cant possibly be worse then HOUSE OF THE DEAD.  OMG.  They actually slipped clips of the game into the movie. yet another braincell killer.

That preticular producer/director (im not sure which) did ghost ship to right?  They all sucked.  Not in the least bit scary, not even a little. Not even jump scarry.  They relied compleatly on the screaming I mentioned erlier and imagry which lacked luster at best.  Oh and gore, but thier gore was fake and unconvincing.

Actually, I saw it today.  Tho, not the way I wished, but I couldnt resist anylonger.  I have sinned, I watched a hadji DVD that was filmed out of the thearter.  However, my sacralige not wistanding, it is by far the best game to movie translation I have ever seen.  I am a huge silent hill fan so I tend to be very preticular and hard to please, yet I cant find anything about it I didnt like o.O Id did the game justice, and not only that, they managed to take every memerable moment of the games and cram it into one movie and yet.. It all fit. None of it felt out of place or peicemealed togeather.   The music was the original soundtrack of the games. Not even remixed.  With the amount of music they had to pick from to, they didnt have to reuse a single peice the entire film (or at least I didnt catch any reuse) and the peice they picked always fit the scean.  From the creepy piano music of SH2 to the woefull singing from SH 3.
The movie is mostly based on the first game with a few details changed, like the lead being changed to a hot girl rather then a guy looking for her daughter.  A few things were taken from the other games to suplement it and pay homage (tho you would have to know the games well to catch them, because unlike doom, it was all background fluff.  street names, locations, camera angles.)  All exept one thing...

You said you played SH2 in its entierty, and you seemed to understand what I ment by the fear of a monster stroling slowly around the corner.  The one major aspect they took from a game other then the 1st:

Pyramid head.

I am still twitching from my geekgasum.  Anyone who as played SH2 knew he was coming before he was there.. because there was that tell tail screaching of metal as he dragged the big knife behind him.  They did him total justice, down to the fact they never killed him.  (unlike his equaly natorius and cool Resident evil counterpart nemisis, who wend down like a bitch at the end of the movie)  Hell! He ripped a chicks skin off, HER SKIN OFF!  He sliced her down the center and then pulled it off like a table cloth.

On a side note that applys to some of the reply, the gore in this movie was perfect (unlike most american made splater fests)  It wasnt too distinct, just like the games it was just lumps of red and pink flesh splaterd loosly around with blood.  And it was only in sceans where it asisted the movies mood.  No every scean needed blood and gore, and they applied it to the ones needed.

On a random note on SH2, one of the things I forgot to mention that I so love about those games is the realization.  What I mean by that, is each game always has one part where everything comes togeather and the truth is so obviose, yet so horrible your left speachless.  For example, SH2, when he is in the hotel and he watches the video... and he remembers the truth.  Everyone you met up to that point was a bad person. they killed and did evil deeds. they were all guilty of something.  You wondered in the back of your head the entire game about it, because on the surface James seemed like a dedicated husband that desperatly needed to see his dead wife again and would go through hell to see her... but then the realization. He needed to see her, because he killed her.  She was sick for so long that he didnt want her to suffer, but also because the stress of caring for a dying woman for so long, he wanted to be rid of her.  He needed silent hill to punish him for his guilt, thats why he was there.  He couldnt live with himself and he was there to die. Pyramid head represents guilt, it seeks out the guilty and kills them.

that is so wonderfuly horrible. I never saw it coming and I think fondly back on it as one of the most memorable video game moments ever.

Mounth of madness huh? havent seen it but you seem to think its worth watching so Ill check it out.

Again, where did you get a polearm or a halberd?  Your local black smith?  Part of planning for zombies is making plans that are viable. If you dont have a raygun, dont know where you can find a raygun, dont plan on using a ray gun vs the zombies that infest your town.  All of my saggestions i try to base on what you can easily get ahold of.  Also, prior planing is good to. I have my zombie kit in the tunk of my car.  Im not really a freak that is preparing for zombies, but I figure if I have everything I need to take care of zombies I can handle everything. ZOmbie kit is just a nickname for it.   Inside I have my Mossberg m590 shotgun, about 200 buckshot rounds and 200 slugs.  A 357 Colt python with about 100 rounds.  2 cases of MRES, a paramedics medical kit with everything from plasma to turnakits, Change of clothes (well extra fatuiges and boots as they take more abuse then most civilian clothing) blanket, chemical heaters, 3 forms of fire (lighter, waterproof matches and flint and tinder) Heavy duty flashlights, flares, a hoolagan tool (its a cros between an axe/battering ram/crowbar used for breaching or in my planned use, getting people out of horribly twisted vehicals) and big ass bayonet/fighting knife.  Oh and the normal road gear like aircompresser runflat spare and tool kit. Be prepared.

only a geek would compair his life to his server.  Lets revel in out geekdom brother!

bah, afraid of a little short range?  We already coverd that the short range was for the lack of amunition or after it runs out.  Its also asuming you cant get away because in truth the best option for at least slow moving zombies is movement. no fighting, not risk of getting bitten. well at least if your smart about your movement. Running screaming and not looking where your going has gotten many a blond bimbo or back stabbing coward. But if your really worried about it get a long handled sledge, but youll have to be beefy to weild that.  THat goes for about any long range blunt object. they weigh alot.

While Im on that note, you complain about the short range, but Im talking about defending yourself against the wave of zombies that has you trapped stopping your escape.  Short weapons are great for riot control, and this is an extream version of that. On that note, if you can get yourself a riot sheild or any sheild for that matter or a suit of padded body armor like riot cops use your good. helps prevent bites, you might be able to get a running start and plow through them, and youll be able to defend against multiple agressors while weilding the shorter blunt weapons.

Never underestimate prepared high ground.  And droping objects is a legitimate stadegy that has been used from fortified positions since the middle ages.  Rocks are common and many and from a height even small ones will do the damage you need.  Seems more plausable then haveing a poleaxe...

Well spearmen were used like that back in the day, but you wernt expected to survive. sucks being on the front line.

It seems that your a halflife 2 fan. Good game I must say, tho my major beef with it was the lack of Shepard.  Every other major character made an appearance but the lone marine that disobeyed his orders and fought to save the scientists of black mesa didnt even get mentioned.  WTF is that shit? Hell, he was more bad ass then freeman.  He was the one that closed the gate to earth on earths end while freeman was killing the zen leader.  Plus, he had a gas mask! that just makes you cool be default. Like Hunk in resident evil.

I did like the ravenhelm part, but It seemed so out of place to the rest of the game, it was like getting stuck in an intergalactic war movie in a post apocolyptic world, and temporarily stepping out of it to step into a cheesy horror flick.  That and the endless head crab zombies was pissing me off.  It would be so bad if it was just the normal ones, but the purple ones and the ones that climed the highground prevented you from using standard low amuntion defensive techniques.

Haha!  Nah, just kidding!  ^-^

Captain, you ARE the man!  ^__^;
In the midst of drawing (inking and color for Additional Character #1 DONE!!), so I'll probably won't get a worthy response in (is such a thing possible...?!  *cries*  I'm not worthy...! ;^0^;) until later today or tomorrow.  But you sure got me going on a long nostalgia trip back there.........

Aaaah,... Doom......  ^____^

BTW, don't forget to finish with "Palm-tan Rules" or something like that.  ^^

C-Chan added the following  15 hours 18 minutes after last message :

Quick art update!  ^o^
Preliminary inking and coloring for all characters has been complete.  Should be at 70% completion, pending shading, highlights, adjustments and touch-ups.  I might be able to keep my weekend deadline after all, but given other priorities, I wouldn't quite advise it.  ^___^;

So I'll just post a preview pic featuring the other characters; naturally, it still needs all of the above mentioned, but I think it's coming along fine as it is now.....

<<<NOTE: PICTURE MOVED TO Annex>>>

Just in case my drawing sucks, here are the names of the characters I tried to depict, in order from left to right:

Windows 2000-tan (facefaulting), Mac-tan (generic Mac, not OS9), Windows 95 OSR 2.5 (yes, she IS in fact a character! check Wiki), and MS-DOS.

CaptBrenden

*brain explodes*  Oh no, you got some on palm tan!

I am the man! Just not the palm-tan.

If your going on a nostalgia trip be sure to take palm-tan, shes portable you know.

Did they have doom for palm-tan?

BTW, Palm-Tan rules!

If inking and color are done, it should be like, a short job to finish o.O maybe its just cus I use photoshop, but Ink is 80 percent of the workload.  Maybe you should get plam-tan to help you.

of course OSR 2.5 is a real character.  She showed up in a bunch of a preticular line of OS Tan comics.  Perhaps palm-tan will get a place on wiki after she shows up in a couple of comics.

Well I figure Im getting annoying now, I just wanted to make up for the lack of Palm-tan In my post to keep us on topic, not that horror movies, zombie survival,  and angst dont directly relate to plam tan.

True, I can get the pic down in one final push, but truth is I'm also burnt.  Need at least a few hours to recoup, so I'll sit back, relax, and hack away at your uber-rant....  ^___^

QuoteAs I am to lazy to deal with quoting single sentances like that Ill just lump it all togeather and you all can figure out what I was responding to.

That's why Anime works.  My responses were all cheap one-liners, but it was the DETAIL that made it look cool and long!  Fufufu... ^.^

QuoteFirst off, not sensei. Whats the japanese word for knowitall?

QuoteHoo-rah? HOO-RAH? What are you trying to do to my beloved corps? Hoo-Ahh Is the army, OOH-RAH is the marines. You basterdized both of them and combined them!

I'm going to hell for that, aren't I?  ;__;

QuoteActually Im quite the doom fan.

One day I'll understand why that hidden Hollywood rule was written that all game-to-movie conversions MUST suck.
But to hell with them; at least you got me curious about Doom 3.  Maybe when I have the hardware to play it and the time to burn (HARHARHARHARHARHAR!!!! ;^0^; ), I'll try it out.

The original is timeless, and in fact holds a special place with me since it was the VERY FIRST GAME I ever edited!  (Plus it was my very first PC game, on my very first computer -- running 3.1-tan, btw -- when prior to that I only had game consoles and an Atari 8-bit computer.)

Don't get me wrong, the level design was very good (Doom's Spawning grounds and DOOm 2's Downtown district especially), but the graphics didn't lend themselves to too much realism (biggest draw-back was that the level designs were actually FLAT -- not plane-flat like WOlfenstein, but I'm sure you'll recall there was never really a TRUE 2-story buidling, with one level directly on top of another).  So I took it upon myself to design new levels to my liking, including a redesigned Level 1 that actually tried to LOOK like the spaceport shown on the map (so of course it was very big).  Initially redesigned Doom 2's Entryway to look like another spaceport-like thing (on a building, this time though -- think Coruscent), but eventually dropped production of it after I actually FINISHED playing Doom (and Final Doom) and knew how our fellow marine finally got back on earth.  Instead I opted to design a transitory mission (with that hell-building still in view) where you find an abandoned home (very proud of the detail at the time!  ^_-) and realize that the hell-spawn are out loose on earth (flip the TV on and you see a scrawling marquee with the burning city background).  My hope was to redesign the entire game, but thankfully I proved not to be THAT ambitious.  Good thing too, since more realistic and editor-friendly games came out since then (Half-Life, being the most realistic, is the best in my opinion, although Far Cry isn't that far behind).

Now that you made me remember my old Doom foray, I wonder if I still have those .WAD files lying around somewhere.....  -__-'
Ah, the memories....

QuoteActually aliens did have strength in numbers, but they also had stealth and manuverability. In multiplayer you lost number and had to rely on the later. In that case the game shifted to ALIEN, and not ALIENS. One creature in the darkness picking of the soft fleshys one at a time pulling them into the darkness.

Meh.  Speed and stealth it is, I suppose....  ;__;
Like ordering your army of 100 zerglings to burrow under the ground.....  -__-'

QuoteGET TO THE CHOPPA! ahem.

'Kay, need help on this one.  ^-^

QuoteI wasnt a huge fan of Starcraft, but I enjoyed the marines and zerg somewhat. Hated the protoss. At least the preds didnt looks retarded.

Touche.  Besides that, the Protoss were arrogant SOBs.

QuoteI dont think ive seen childern of the dead, but it cant possibly be worse then HOUSE OF THE DEAD. OMG. They actually slipped clips of the game into the movie. yet another braincell killer.

Ohohohoho!  Talk about opening the gates of hell!  ^-^
'Kay, I'll consult with regional experts regarding the comparative suckage level of House of the Dead.  Meanwhile, should you ever find Children of the Dead in some trash heap (I wouldn't dare make you buy it), give it two viewings and call me in the morning.  ^__^

QuoteThat preticular producer/director (im not sure which) did ghost ship to right? They all sucked. Not in the least bit scary, not even a little. Not even jump scarry. They relied compleatly on the screaming I mentioned erlier and imagry which lacked luster at best. Oh and gore, but thier gore was fake and unconvincing.

New age horror movies for Generation Z.  No wonder we seek out J-Horror.  ;__;

QuoteActually, I saw it today.

Dude, that was deep.  ^__^
I now see Pyramid Head in a different light (although if I recall, at the end there were 2 of them, spear-armed).
I think for that reason I also liked "The Others".  Even though it barely passes for a real horror movie, I also didn't see the end coming and at that moment it switched to a very different and more convincing kind of horror -- not the hokey horror of ghosts, but a real horror of infanticide and the possibility that an afterlife is real and nowhere near like anyone's wishful thinking.

Back to SH, I heard from the grapevine that the Silent Hill movie was apparently "too confusing" for the average moviegoer, and hence the reason it bombed.  Granted it wasn't a good movie regardless, that still makes me want to stick my head in the ground.  X_x

QuoteMounth of madness huh? havent seen it but you seem to think its worth watching so Ill check it out.

You might find it interesting since it's kind of a Silent Hill "prototype" (1995), right down to the slow psychology-driven build-up and convincing monsters.  It's worth a look at least.

BTW, sorry, it's actually called "In the Mouth of Madness".  ^__^;

QuoteAgain, where did you get a polearm or a halberd? Your local black smith?

Um, yeah!  His name's Joe!  ^.^

QuotePart of planning for zombies is making plans that are viable.

Now that's a good philosophy to have, certainly in the midst of no foreseeable zombie invasion (but prospective real ones).
Now that I think back about it, though, that's probably the reason why the guy from Army of Darkness just happend to have a Physics book in his trunk!  ^__-

Oh, and you just reminded me....!  Of course!  A bayonet at the end of a rifle!  Long-enough reach and I'd always have the option to shoot at any time.  (provided its loaded)

Quoteonly a geek would compair his life to his server. Lets revel in out geekdom brother!

Now THAT'S a good idea I haven't thought about.  Certainly easier to get then that cool knight armor that the father dude used in '28 Days.  ^__^

Course, that always begs the eternal question about the Living Dead series:  how in the hell did they manage to take over the world, in the face of armies, law endorcement and partisans who know what they're doing?!  Perhaps that's why they're making the Zombs fast these days, to at least cover all those implausibles.

QuoteNever underestimate prepared high ground. And droping objects is a legitimate stadegy that has been used from fortified positions since the middle ages. Rocks are common and many and from a height even small ones will do the damage you need. Seems more plausable then haveing a poleaxe...

Not questioning the high ground part at all, just the rock part.....  ^__^;
Even if I were Atlas, the most I could haul up (and fit) are maybe about a few dozen -- enough to drop them on about a few dozen zombies.  Smaller ones are better, but then a position high enough would be in short supply.

On the other hand, just like with the Half Life 2 car, if I happened to TIE the huge rock to something, crush the snot out of a zombie and then reel it back in for another kill, then maybe I can get some real good use out of it.

Hmmm......  -v-

Yeah, I agree.  I mean you can tell I'm one who likes to represent ALL characters (including obscure ones like 95 OSR 2.5-tan), so I thought it was a travesty that there was not even a single mention of Shephard (even though you got to see Barney and friends).  Then again, they're still making expansion packs for the game, so who knows...?  Maybe the G-man will whip him out against Gordon in one of the later ones!

Not that I'll get to see it, though.  I may like Half Life 2, but I H-A-T-E Steam.  Enough to make me not want to support their products ever again (and I have the lack of time to enforce that!).  \ _ /

QuoteI did like the ravenhelm part, but It seemed so out of place to the rest of the game, it was like getting stuck in an intergalactic war movie in a post apocolyptic world, and temporarily stepping out of it to step into a cheesy horror flick. QuoteIf inking and color are done, it should be like, a short job to finish o.O maybe its just cus I use photoshop, but Ink is 80 percent of the workload. Maybe you should get plam-tan to help you.

Yeah, its cause of Photoshop, where you can raster away at all that shading.  With Inkscape, I get the benefit of inking and coloring simultaneously, but experience a drawback when it comes to shading.  Essentially, I have to "sculpt" it into position like everything else.  I'd leave it to Photoshop, but I want ot make sure the lines stay crisp (besides, I only use Photoshop for the really complicated effects.

And besides, Palm-tan hates me right now cause she thinks the expressions of the girls behind her are too irreverant.  She'd rather have them bow and grovel before the mighty Palm-tan.

Quoteof course OSR 2.5 is a real character. She showed up in a bunch of a preticular line of OS Tan comics. Perhaps palm-tan will get a place on wiki after she shows up in a couple of comics.

That's my dream someday, although not just with Palm-tan.  More than likely Amiga-tan will get a chance at it first, as she'll appear again in my next pic (plus my signature) and will have more importance in all that faction stuff I talked about earlier.  By comparison Palm-tan is just comic relief, although I do have a funny story idea involving her and Homeo that I'll probably never work on, but would be great if I had the resources to.

BTW, I expected the great Captain to know who 95 OSR 2.5-tan, but you never know when a n00b might appear who might see her, not recognize her, and think I'm Deja Vu'ing 95-tan!  @__@

I can just picture it now..... -__-'

Dark_Knight-like 95-tan Uber Fan:  I just discovered that you have desecrated the Goddess!  Now you will D-I-E!

C-Chan:  UWAAAAAAAA~!!!!!  ;^0^;

So I rest my case.
BTW, since the comic style where she appears from doesn't lend to much detail, I hope fans won't be disappointed if I embellished her clothing a little more.  I also equipped her with a Jutte to spice her up a little and cement her standing as an intermediary between 95-tan and 98-tan.  She's obviously dressed in transition from the feudal period to the modern era (98-tan), but still carries around something to police against the sword-wielding remnants of the old era (95-tan).

Technically-speaking, that weapon can allow her to disarm (or even break!) 95-tan's katana, but that requires tremendous skill and guts.  Question is: does 95 OSR 2.5-tan have enough skill and guts?  `v'

QuoteWell I figure Im getting annoying now, I just wanted to make up for the lack of Palm-tan In my post to keep us on topic, not that horror movies, zombie survival, and angst dont directly relate to plam tan.

You're not far off, btw.
Palm-tan may be a genie, but she really sucks at it.
You never know when a seemingly benign wish, like asking for a cheeseburger (yum) or a copy of Doom 4 (OOH-RAH!) or a REAL Aliens vs. Predator movie ('bout time), may result in an advertent awakening of th dead (EWWW!) or opening of the gates of Hell (AAAAAH!) or crashing of a cargo spaceship infested with xenomorphs (ZOMGWTF!!!!).  Now just imagine if those were all your spent up three wishes.  ^___^;

Reading your reply to my rants is about as fun as ranting itself.  No one else is posting in here but I least hope they are reading it :P

Maybe Im just not forum savy, but I ment it seemed like a pain in the ass to requote everything just to deleat it all so that only the sentence i want to reply to remains.  But I know know how to do it otherwise.

Concidering the the streets of heaven are guarded by United States Marines, yes.  See marine corps hymn final verse.

You must get doom 3.  YOU MUST! the expansion too. there is a part in the expansion where reality and hell our begining to merge as the teleporters are about fried, and one second everything will look dark and normal minus the flashing red lights and klaxons in the background, but every few seconds things shift and everything turns a red hugh, the walls are splatered with blood, skeletons are strewn about everywhere, and then they cease to be, like a vision, but when they are there you can touch and move them as if they were real.

There is another part, in the original, just before you go to hell where your aporching the main teleporter and the lights are strobing down a long dark corridor. the walls are utterly splatered with blood and there are bloody stripped skeletons everywhere, but as you walk slowly down this corridor the white overhead lights flashing, every now and then when they came on there would be a big mother fucker there with a raised chainsaw and buuy the time you squeese a panicked shell off the lights were black agian, they would come on and he would be gone.  time elapsed 1 second but your heart would be thundering in your chest.

You were a doomED guy too huh?  yeah I know all about it being a 2d map.  Still it was convincing enough when playing.  Those were the days. did you ever play the Evil dead, Army of darkness mod?  that was the shit, tho doom was a bit to fast paced for something like that

If you still have the .wad files send em to me, Ive got doom 95 on my comp that has an in windows launcher that alowes you to easily open wad files and play them.

Again I didnt play much starcraft. I dont care much for those realtime stradegy games.. cept for Dawn Of War. that game is the shit. it rocks. oh god, I could rant all day on it, but I wont (people waiting to use the computer) But Ill just say my Captain Brenden nick comes from playing the game its based on for well about 10 years.

we agree it kills brain cells, and you want me to watch it twice? I might not get through even once! I was watching the hills have eyes the other day I had to turn it off it was so retarded.  well I guess the scean where the screaming angst girl got raped by a mutant was cool but the rest sucked.

Of course it was confusing.  It pays homage to silent hill. Im a fanatic of silent hill and yet I still cant tell you exactly what happened and why. its not clean cut, its a confusing heap of hate and deception.  Turn off the lights and enjoy!

My shotgun is an Mossburg m590, which has a bayonet lug on it.  Im set.

*after saving 3.1sama from the horrible pig he goes to get the stuff for BLTs.. minus the bacon cus that is already taken care off...*

Rotten stump, rotten head.  Splatters the same.

speed of infection.  thats how they explain it.  its too big before the police even relizes its a problem.  even well trained riot cops can be overwelmed.  chaos and confusion can cause even the most elite military unit to break apart if the leadership fails.

what really sucks is if you did survive then you were concidered good at it and you were sent out to do it again.

He had better come back! I mean, he was being manupulated by g-man just like freeman, which means his "employers" concider him important enough to pay atention to (unlike barney)  and they did throw him into an void where "no harm could come to him" so he should be fine, and could be pulled out of it if the need arises...

I need to do a shepard pic. actually I thoguht about having him pose with hunk, proving the badest mothers wear gas masks.

I didnt use too many traps and I cirtanly didnt use the grave gun as much as most.  I tend to be a master of move shoot and conserve and I managed to have enough ammo not to need to resort to the conveniently located sawblades (tho why does one town need that many saw blades?)

speaking of pitkin, he has been back for a day or two but he has made like only one post. he needs flogging.

Actually we need to get a extream fanboy for each os on here.  its good for keeping each one hyped up. Im constantly ranting 3.1, darklord is all linux linux linux, darknight is 95 all the way, and like yah!  woo! we just need some more.

I should say that I feel 2k dosent fit in that pic.  its like she just happened to have been sketched near them and was put in the pic.  I donno, maybe its just the way im looking at it.

Just a Quick edit.  I just geekgasumed again. My keyboard is all messed up. I for some odd reason looked up half life 2 ep 1 reviews cus I ordered it for my new dell (dood im getting a dell!) and like I saw the wiki artical on it.  I like wiki, it gives you the downlow so I started reading through it.. and look what I found:

Relations to Portal
Main article: Portal (computer game)
Set to be released alongside Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the game Portal has raised suspicions that the character of Adrian Shephard could finally make a return. The game has been confirmed as taking place within the Half-Life universe, but the game's playable character will not be Gordon Freeman. Given that the only other playable character, Barney Calhoun, already has a backstory, Adrian Shephard seems a likely candidate, given that his fate is unresolved at the end of Opposing Force.

This theory is supported through several links between the games. Portal's central weapon is the "Aperature Science Handheld Portal Device," and has the ability to generate entry and exit portals on flat surfaces, which the player can then move through. This weapon bears a great resemblance to the Displacer weapon of Opposing Force, which dispatched enemies by teleporting them to the border world of Xen. The weapon's secondary fire could also transport the player to Xen. Another link is found through studying the name of Portal's weapon. "Aperature Science Handheld Portal Device" abbreviates to the acronym of ASHPD, a possible reference to Adrian Shephard.

It is also speculated that the "Testing Center" Portal is set in, may in fact be that owned/controlled by the G-Man himself using it to find a suitable candidate to replace the loss of Gordon Freeman to the vortigaunts.

oh good god that made my say :D  I dont even know where to start.  So short after mentioning my desier to Shepard once again kick ass this pops up.

On another note, related, I read all the info they had for op for and my god wiki takes it too far sometimes.   The low down on all that was in that game down to the breakdown of the military structure of the marines.  It had theories for why the marines wore berrets and had apatches rather then (like I did) writting it off as poor research.  Hell, they describe the plot of op 4 and it reads like it were a movie or a book, not a game.

I would saggest you check it out c-chan, being a fellow halflife shepard enthusiest.

For the glory of Palm-tan (and maybe a little bit of Windows 95 OSR 2.5-tan - wow, what a tongue-twister...), I WILL check out that OpFor wiki article!!  ^__^\

I'll be back later on!  ^o^
(Cause it's been a busy day,... oi....  -_-')

C-Chan added the following  7 hours 7 minutes after last message :

Holy Sweet Mother of Crap!
I never knew that Race X was unrelated to the Xen aliens.....What a scoop!  ^-^

No but seriously, that article (or rather, that whole CHAIN of articles was not only enjoyable, it helped plug in a lot of gaps I encountered with the story.  Not sure if it's enough to lift my current games embargo, but at least it gives me the urge of reinstalling and playing the old HalfLife / Op4 / BlueShift.....

Assuming I have time,.... Which I already spent reading Wiki....  Oi....  ^___^;

Guess I'll have to stop by again later.  ^^;
In the meantime, just some quick responses.

You're not far off on 2K-tan's "sketchiness".  Actually, during the inking process I was seriously mulling the idea of taking her out completely.  It was already late, I was already tired (enough to cuss non-stop) and I already had enough characters facefaulting to convey the idea.
But I pressed on anyway since she was the last vestige of my original concept (I  already swapped 3.1-tan for MS-DOS-tan since I wanted EVERY character to be freaked out, swapped 95-tan for OSR2.5-tan because of personal preferences, and added Mac-tan to break the Wndows monotony).    Besides, I still wanted at least ONE character to have that "WTF!!" kind of facefault and spill scalding-hot tea.  And I have some easter eggs planned behind her.  We'll see -- you know as well as anyone how much shading makes or breaks a character.  ^____^;

You think we need dedicated fanboys?  'Kay, I'll sign up.  ^__^
But who for me, I wonder?  '_'

Darklord already claimed Linux-tan.
You got dibs on 3.1-tan.
Alfamille fawns over Mac-tan.
I'm not really feeling any of the other standard Windows girls.
Fedora-tan is still only a one-shot character by Juzo-kun.
And I'd be a shameless self-promoter if I waved around Amiga-tan.  ^^;

Okay, no choice then.....

I'll be the WINDOWS 95 OSR 2.5-TAN FANBOY,.. er, PIG!!!!  ^V^
ALL HAIL THE OBSCURE ONE!!!!!!!  ^.^

Patience, patience,... You know I'll get to the rest of your post eventually (besides, there's shading to be done).  ^___^

As to your last post, maybe I'm sleep-deprived or just daft.  But do you mind if I just go ahead and say it,...

Wuh...?[/b]  O__o

(By any chance, is this related to the fact that 3.1-sama's "mysterious" cake pic somehow ended in the hentai section....?)  o___O
