Yeah, fried pickles are nothing uncommon here.  I don't know many folks who eat 'em, but a lot of places serve them.  You'd be harder pressed to find food here that isn't battered and deep-fried.

You do know they deep-fry Twinkies® as well?

Deep fried ice cream.  Or fried okra.  Pretty much anything can be fried to varying degrees of tastyness.  Pickles have an.... odd taste, but not one I'd totally avoid.  Fried ice cream = win, and fried cheesecake.... had once, never again.
