I want to bring my best friend here. She's into computers and video games and stuff like that, but she's not into anime, which means that her first impression could be that it is too anime-esque. I did show Nijikaku to her, though. I know that, with WINE, Nijikaku can be played on a Mac.

I have another close friend who might be interested, but it's the reverse situation. She's very much into anime, and I don't think she's as interested in computers as my friend and I are.
Nijikaku's that fighting game (moo-ghen) right?

practically being on another planet that nobody is willing to come to
You called?

Yep. The MUGEN-based fighting game with the OS-tans and other Japanese memes.

The solution is simple: You and Pent find a con to go to and other OSCers plan on visiting you there. Three birds with one stone!

...that said you're only a few hundred miles away from the closest OSCer (I think, don't you live in one of the Carolinas?) while Pent is equally far away from all of us. :/

Cockleshell

yes... i'm free for a week for thanksgiving break... such relief

also, my quest is to find Kari again at anime boston and you better be there, bella. ):<
What's in your hand, back at me. I have it, it's an oyster with two figures of your favorite Touhou characters. Look again, the figures are now vials of the Hourai Elixir. Anything is possible when your waifu smells like Old World and not a man. I'm a frog.

@Bella: Indeed. Hooefully I can move next year ;_;

so someone stole a shitload of merch from the store today! my manager went sprinting across the parking lot after her, but it was too late. the police came and left just as i went on my break. apparently the 'lifter is well-known to the po-po so they just sort of drove right over to her house, lol. :0
can't believe i missed this
this is hilarious

Nichi

@Aurora: Maybe one day everyone can put together some money for you to join us :3

Not looking forward to work tonight; I hate it when I'm scheduled past 9PM, as I despise the nightshift guy >_>;
(At least I don't have much longer to go until I'm finished with Walmart :\ )

It also doesn't help there aren't many easy ways to get where you live that don't involve a lot of driving.  A lot of driving....

Question to American OSCers or those who have visited America. If a Park Ranger has ever said hello to you in a National Park have you:
a) Said hello back, maybe made small talk
b) Found assistance or information you were looking for
c) Walked right past that bitch, fuck people who try and be friendly

Bella

I can't remember offhand if I've ever interacted with park rangers (our local state parks are kind of ... deserted... I've never actually seen any staff), but I'd probably smile and nod hello, basically the same I do to anyone who greets me.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't spent much time here lately. I have a full time job, and it's been difficult adjusting to it. I also wish I could be involved in OSC meetups, but I live so far away, and don't have my own transportation. :(

Maybe we can hang out if/when I get around to doing my upper-midwestern roadtrip...

Nichi

@Stew: There's always flying, but I think I'm the only person not afraid of flying :/
Also, never seen a park ranger on my life; the parks here don't have on site staff

So, on my last break. Nightshift guy I fucking hate is in. This is going to suck ><;

Chocofreak13

agreeing with bells and pent, the parks here are fucking ghost towns save for the flume which you have to buy tickets to. most of them are maintained by a very small staff which rotates around the parks, so i imagine that what few rangers they have are off doing important stuff like preventing bears from scaring the shit out of arsonistic kids. however, given the opportunity to interact with a friendly individual such as a park ranger, i would likely A and possibly B if i needed to B. :0

@meetups: tbh the most common con people on this site seem to go to is AB; we've even had out-of-country OSCers come to it (lookin at you, demon). if you want to meet OSCers (and can afford it), come to AB. it happens around easter, though, so there's not only the problem of funds and lodging, there's the problem of family holidays and shit. :\

@cocks: i'm dragging Steve with me so you can meet him, too. ^^

@leaf: in retrospect the incident was kinda hilarious but both managers on duty were freaking the fuck out about it. we pulled the outdoor carts in a full like, 2-3 hours early (usually they don't come in till close).

so mum was in a car accident today. details are sketchy but seems she was pulling out and slammed into someone (so, repeat of last time), and has gone to the hospital to be checked out. unfortunately we can't afford anything but the crap hospital which doesn't do MRIs on sundays, so i may have to take her back tomorrow. i'm calling out of work in the morning since i think her car may be totaled and she needs a ride to insurance/car/repair/hospital/etc and my dad works an early shift. she offered to take my car and drop me off, but given that this is her second major accident in a year i'm saying hell fucking no. plus i'm just really nervous about Katja. i don't have insurance, AAA, or funds to buy another car this nice. >>;;;

it's yet another reason in the stack of "why i need to move the fuck out" slips. i'm craving for it to happen sooner rather than later. >>;;;

on a brighter note, i made it down and back to Worcester with Steve successfully. i got the fabled Lolita Coat i was getting, and a clearance skirt half off (also lolita!). Steve even got a replacement hard drive, which we're likely installing tonight, and ended up upgrading a full TB (it was only 11 bucks more, sooo...). those have been the good points of the day, at least, even if i had to spend literally my last $5 to ensure that i wasn't going to run out of gas in the middle of driving (literally....with that $5 she barely has a quarter of a tank).

responsible adult time is something that needs to happen quick, but isn't. i considered this my last hurrah, however, since outside of AB and prepping for that cosplay event in January i'm likely going to be socking away cash to help with moving/future bills. ><;

I hope I can move out by next year ;_;

I got to the door of a con once.

Kari: I'm totally going to embarrass you in front of Steve. "Oh, I've heard so much about you!!!!" and get all lovey dovey on you. Pfft
