Am I the only person here who got computer lab time at school in elementary school?  I still write everything though, it feels more normal.

Went to Appomattox Court House today.

Nichi

I guess I kind of got computer lab? For a while early into my school, mom would sometimes allow me to play educational games on PC as part of my studies (Thus, I have much nostalgia for titles released by The Learning Company; like Treasure Mountain and Ancient Empires).

I eventually did transition to writing my stories on a PC, mostly because it was much cleaner and allowed for spell-checking, plus it was far more comfortable for me...however, my sister for the longest time saw my stories as shit simply because of my medium; then again, she's always been a bit bias against anything involving a computer in art beyond just scanning the drawing or retyping the contents of your notebook :\

....does choco need to slap a bitch

@stew: we were given computer lab time in my later elementary years. before that, the only computer time that was really given in-school was the occasional time when we were allowed to play this one educational game on the imacs in our classroom (Logical Journey of the Zoombinis). in 5th grade we started getting typing lessons (which never stuck and i ended up learning to type on my own years later). after that, we were given access to computer labs in middle and high school but unless you had a specific class in the rooms you weren't in there for a whole block/period (which i did, in both middle and high school -w- ).

despite this, i still hand-write most of my stuff.

I've always had my own computer for as long as I can remember.

We did have lab time as early as Elementary School, though.
My 7 year old self didn't like the computer lab visits, the PCs were foreign to me and they used weird programs.

ಠ__ಠ wtf is Internet Explorer, is that like Netscape Navigator?

I remember I froze one and had no idea what was going on.

I also have never had a typing class!

Chocofreak13

i think typing was kind of....experimental for my school. i don't remember my sister taking it and i don't even think the class ahead of us took it. i don't even think the class AFTER us took it. it was pretty stupid, tbh. :\

Well, I never took one, which everyone thought was strange, including my High School.

I don't see how you would even teach typing, though.
Like, how do you have a class to teach people to hit the letters on a keyboard.

THE A KEY IS LOCATED HERE
caps lock [A]
HIT IT WITH YOUR FINGER TO TYPE A

GOOD JOB! ON TO THE NEXT LESSON, THE S KEY

Chocofreak13

they used a computer program where you would complete games and then lessons. i sucked at it and was chastized by the teachers, till they realized that i was basically unteachable in this department and kinda gave up. i was in 5th grade, what the fuck did i need to type?

To this day I still think home row is uncomfortable, prone to extreme butchering when even slightly out of position and not flexible enough.

I'll always have horror flash backs of my parents attempting to teach me home row.

Nichi

...dafuq is a home row?

Also, I never had a typing class; that I was self-taught from having to enter DOS commands to run my games, and further expanded upon when I began to write stories -w-

@Kari: Yes, yes you may

Chocofreak13

thankyou.

also, i believe "home row" is a style of keyboard typing. i remember the typing method they tried to teach in the class i was in was rather ineffective, so perhaps it was this method.

the teachers also kind of hated it that i only used one finger per hand to type. still do, and i'm willing to bet i likely type faster than they do. -w-;

Indeed. Usually I type with just 3 fingers (My thumb hits the spacebar), but sometimes I can get more fingers in on it -w-

Indeed. The default one they supposedly teach people in keyboarding classes. (lol keyboarding classes)

Thank you! I vary from 2 to 6.

Chocofreak13

typically it's only one per, but sometimes i use more. :\

I type so much that I can't even really explain how I type, it's just something I can do naturally, like swimming or walking. I think I mostly use my index and middle fingers with my thumb hitting the space bar and ring fingers hitting the backspace/tab/capslock keys...

@Kriz: I also remember my dad trying to teach me to type home row, obviously it didn't work out. -_-
