That was just for a week lol

You crazy bastard!

It seems that this week is "Russian Week" this year around...

Every year, I find myself surrounded by everything Russian be it music to just the language itself! It is an odd occurrence that finds its way into at least a single week every year and this is the week right now.

Hopefully its the single week because my birthday is next week and I don't feel like being Russian for that week...

@Paul: That's really interesting, I had no idea Austria mandated military or civilian service for its citizens. I guess that's a pretty common thing throughout Europe? If you don't mind me asking, is there anything that's drawn you to the fields of bioinformatics and gerontology?

@Nej: But I thought you got perma-b&. 'v'

@Kraus: I pretty much wore a babushka nonstop for like four days, does that mean I'm celebrating Russian Week too?

@Pent: I'd be mostly worried about her rushing to buy that dog.... people shouldn't make snap decisions on buying pets. :z

Nichi

Indeed. This really felt rushed -_-

On a lighter note, the Christmas gifts are in the mail now ^^

Paul

@Bells: I don't really know if it's that common around Europe - there's a popular vote coming up ahead in January where the general populace can decide whether it should be abolished.
I've always been drawn to computers - so something with informatics was bound to attract my interest at some point. When I read about brain-computer interfaces and their possible uses, I literally felt pulled towards bioinformatics!
Gerontology, because there still is a lot to be done in that field in my opinion. Quite a lot of older people are alone and disillusioned, this has to be dramatically improved (include them in more activities with younger people, expand geriatric healthcare to a level where there's enough care for everyone involved, find a more integrative alternative to retirement homes...)

>CK2, playing as viking (Norse Pagan/Icelandic) invaders in africa (hurr)
>Year is 1250 and I've conquered everything from Timbuktu to Morocco to Tunisia along with about half of Spain, forming the Icelandic Empire (In Africa)
>For kicks I decide to actually conquer Iceland, which is held by an independent duke
>Send my personal army there, kick butt
>SUDDENLY Sicily declares war on me and I have to marshal the empire and march it all over to Tunisia and drive them off
>Halfway through that war when suddenly

AZTECS

>100K STACK WITH ACCOMPANYING 1K SHIPS LANDING IN FUCKING GALICIA AND SCOTLAND
>Meanwhile the Golden Horde has taken over everything from Russia to Poland, and France is the Byzantine Empire now
>Slow and steady cakewalk ----> SENSE OF IMPENDING DOOM RISING HARD AS FUCK

FUCK THIS SHIT/ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

So, everything seems to be fine with the dog so far. Sylvester doesn't care much for him, but that's to be expected.

Also, I ordered my bro-in-law's gift yesterday. It should arrive in the next few days ^^

>50 years of epic battles later
>Aztecs now hold Ireland, Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and parts of Germany
>BUT
>While they've been away from Iberia conquering shit I've repelled their invasions (lost some, but always took them back the next year when they were busy elsewhere) and taken most of their holdings in Spain by carefully outplaying their 100k doomstack using NAVAL TACTICS and totally disregarding any truces
>I have no clue of how big their doomstack is now, but they have an enormous land border with the Mongols and just finished fighting a series of war against a (Severely Fractured) Holy Roman Empire, so I'm hoping for the best
>Just conquered Rome from the Papacy
>WHEN SUDDENLY
>Aztecs invade Castille

Damn. Well okay but I can probably outmaneuver them easily enough before their doomstack can get here. I've done this before, this shouldn't be too har-
>Byzantines declare war to Restore the Papacy
Wait WHAT? They can DO that? I even specifically murdered the sitting pope so he wouldn't keep his Claims on Rome.
>Cue some 5 years of fighting on 2 fronts and eventually I realize the Aztecs don't HAVE a doomstack to throw at me
>Squee like a girl
>Sack Constantinople, kick all the asses of both rival empires like a baws
>Peace with Aztecs a few months before Byzzies give up as well
>Immediately declare war against the Aztecs again to conquer their shit
>KICK ALL THE ASS

Man, that was fucking intense. While I do have a bit of a succession problem at the moment, that's pretty much it. Sure, I share a border with the angry French Byzantines and the Aztecs still have one province at the edge of Spain (and LOTS of other shit), but if I can kick them out of Iberia I'm pretty much safe from any kind of invasion for a long time. Not sure how I'll handle the baguette empire, but if nothing else I can expand into Italy and keep pushing east. IMMINENT DOOM has been successfully averted! :D

Also: Today I went back to the surgeon's office for a checkup, apparently I'm healing quite well. And the nurse ... assistant... person who helped with the procedure and did the checkup was impressed that I made it through my recovery without any pain medication, and she thinks I was able to pull off some sort of mind-over-matter-y deal in regards to the pain. And she also thinks I went into surgery with a positive attitude and that helped too ...

I'd like to think that was the case! Without the support of my friends and family I don't think I'd have been half as brave as I actually was. ;u;

Nichi

@Bella: Yay! Glad to know you're doing well with the recovery ^^

I'm glad to be off work. My feet and back hurt >_<
At least i have a heating pad
