Yup, I heard about this.  They're basically selling what they're required to provide by law in Italy.

That's not only in Italy. Warranties in Europe cover 2 years before expiring. If you sell a computer saying the warranty is only one year long and ask money for extending warrant period up to 2 years you are committing a fraud.

(sorry for gravedigging, but making clear statements helps people understanding situations)

P.S. I could expect such a beaviour from an used spare parts maccheroni car reseller not from a multinational computer firm like Apple in its Apple Stores!
Pegasos computer: CPU PPC G3 600MHz, RAM DDR 512 MB PC3200, Graphic Card ATI 9250 256 MB videoram. SO MorphOS 1.4.5

"God, what an incredible thing we did!"
(R.J. Mical, engineer of original Amiga developing team at Amiga Inc. 1982-1985).

"When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell."
(Jean-Lous Gassée, former CEO of Apple France and chief of developers of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, November 1996).

what little faith i have left in computer companies is shaken like a redheaded stepchild every time i hear about stuff like this. it's why i usually stick with the same machine untill it REALLY dies (multiple system failure) vs buying a new one. building your own is even better than that. but then, it's not like i can build an ipod.....

(however gothpodII has run for several years without problems or fail, even after several falls and getting soaked in the rain once. apple makes a damn good MP3 player. but then again, i bought her at costco. >w>;)
