I consider myself to be like 2k-tan (Mainly because I'm much more reliable than my older sister). Also, that's what came up in a personality test I took a few weeks back.

I'm a mix of XP and 2K. Good at managing files and security status. IN fact I have both OS in the same computer. XP is the host while 2K is the guest using Microsoft Virtual PC. and they are both up to date with the latest releases of the programs they have, free of viruses and very neatly organized in files and data. I'm proud of my baby and her guest.

Hmmm this is tough... while I'm not like any of these -tans, I do share a few similarities.

In one way I'm like OpenVMS-sama, cause I something of the strong silent type, I simultaneously love and hate Windows NT and its descendants, and I like the ocean, and travel.... ^^

In one way I'm like Multics-sama, cause I can be a depressive mope, I'm usually likable but when someone dislikes me they can REALLY dislike me (or vice-versa). I'm initially mistrustful of most people, but once I warm up to someone I trust them for life. I'm also a very complex person. ^^'

And in a few ways I'm like Unix-sama, cause I love throwing things at people when I'm angry, I certainly have a temperamental side, I can live in very sparse conditions. ^___^;

I've never seen a Mac in action. Never seen a Linux either. Does anyone know any place with videos of them running. Macs are goo right. I'd like to have one in the future.

it's all based on perception.

if you want vid, i reccomend youtube, or the downloads section (the latter will be quite a bit more productive)

My cousing is kinda like a zombie XP tan. He gave me his laptop to fix it and groom it. He was running her with no antivirus or firewall. I installed my thrusted one I have. It found 200+ vulnerabilities, 16 Viruses, 10 trojans and 2 malware. Had 500+ registry errors and had 3.8 Gigs fragmented and 2900+ temporary system dump files. Pretty much he just wanted to torture the poor XP girl.

That's just cruel. Give the guy a good whipping for that, mistreatment of computers to that degree ought to be a damn crime! >.<

As for what I am...
No, I'm not even gonna try. I'm to fragmented and onionlike and omni-everything to walk that plank, thank you.

MS Office pro wa also corrupted. He want's me to reinstall it. His XP also has no task manager to aid programs and no system restore to help her when an installation causes her to be ill. I really am suffering for the computer.
Title: so which -tan do you consider yourself?
Post by: NejinOniwa on January 06, 2009, 12:59:05 PM
Re-install? MS Office? That's just worthless. It's not even any use to pirate it anymore, unless you absolutely must have .docx compability natively (which is completely damn useless, by the way). Just remove it - every single damn tiniest little trace of it, you never know otherwise - and install OpenOffice.org (//www.openoffice.org) over it, and you're done.

Any more support for the poor lass should go in the appropriate thread (http://ostan-collections.net/topic-708.html), however.

I'll scold him don't worry, I'll encourage him to use antiviruses even if it's a free version. It's better than no antivirus at all. These days computer who venture the net with no protection is like a beautiful virgin girl going to an underground thugs place.

Unless your sis is a crazy sk1ll3d l33t hacker, who somehow managed to stick Windows and Mac source into her Linux OS base, I very much doubt she's running a fragmented OS. ;)

The OS is the OS, no matter what window managers, desktop environments, emulators or foreign apps its running... a Linux computer running Windows programs under an emulator is no more related to Windows than a human wearing bunny ears is to a rabbit. ^^

I'm studying computers and I always beef up mine's security. I tell ya Aurora it pains to see OS's being treated like that. Some other people have givven me other laptops for me and my friend to fix. Both of us have found some bizarre moments out there, I mean Do most people know what a computer is? Do they have in mind that one they get one they just turn it on use it then turn it off? Jesus-Christ, computers need assistance and maintenance and security just like a human needs food,  water and shelter.

Part of the problem may that too many people these days tend to see their computers as disposable commodities that need nearly no maintenance since they have gotten so much cheaper over the decades. But 20-30 years ago, a personal computer was regarded as an investment!

The other part must be that people aren't reading the manuals and haven't bothered to learn how to take care of their computer! ;030

I agree with you. I am prsonaly a poor person I have no shame admiting it because I did save very much to buy the XP I'm using to write these posts since 2004. I've givven her so much care the only thing she has ever neede replacement was her celeron processor wich with hand work only costed a mre $134. She has been in service since I purchased her to this very day with only that much investment. As you can see I try to protect her much it's the only thing I have. and as we said both people these days don't value their things until they lose them.

He said he was returning for me to aid him more but he hasn't comeback. I'll see when the antivirus I gave him expires I wanna see to who he runs back. It appears he just wanted to clean his poor XP and then back to the same. Were I study my other PC friends care a lot for their computers except another friend of mine. He runs his XP laptop with no protection either. I've prompted to his to let me install my antivirus but he says it's his mother's so he doesn't care for it. He wanted a class program I had when I plugged his pendrive my antivirus was flash in detecting that his pendrive was infected with an autorun worm and had another inside a file to triguer if the autorun was eliminated. He's the only one who doesn't have his own laptop but doesn't care for one that it's not him's either.

I run all my systems (since my IT-school) without any native antivirus...
I just scan them online from time to time...
I once had over 1200 viruses on my old lappie and it still ran smoother than when it was clean and had a antivir installed... :D

i just hate this security.
trend-micro PC-cillin.....came with this damn system so my dad automatically paid and installed and he keeps all the passwords and he's HOPELESS with computers, and he just HAS to be present when we change things on "his computer" (mr. possessive paid for the famliy computer, he just acts like a 3-yr-old in the "MINE!" stage with everything, my bedroom is "his" room, this house is "his", ect.) so we can't troubleshoot ANYTHING.

sorry bout ranting, if you can understand that then i am happy. <3

Sorry I've been absent I was tweaking my XP with docks and making her black with the official Royale noir theme from Microsoft. No needing to patch the UXTHEME.dll. well I did it but my Homeko became unstable and random blue screens of death so I said hey! your safety my girl before your beauty. SO I system restored her and used the theme in a safe way. So yeah back to the small security topic I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It slows a little my XP because it becomes part of the system but thanks to him my Homeko as never been ill. KIS is like a super inmunizer for her. Plus she has windows defender and the CA antyspy from Yahoo. Mcafee site advisor, WOT site advisor, Trend Protect Siteadvisor, Phishtank checker on firefox Bitdefender antiscript and I have other once in a month running malicious removal tools from; Kaspersky, Avast, Mcafee, Microsoft and Avira.

bubble tan. seriously. 0_0;

eh, i have a desktop, but it's OLD and such and not set up.
the history of old shitty is a strange one, what with it originally running hec-chan, then having homeko move in without hec-chan moving out, then saseko moving in along with the other two. (98, home edition installed over it, pro installed over that, after that it crashed, probably due to the fact that we never deleted anything. <D
after a complete system wipe, 2k-tan now resides there. :3 (but it's still OLD and it's kinda big and heavy so i may replace, but keep the hard drive for myself. :3 )

This buttobi cpu thing is.......

Added after 3 minutes:

QuoteA young student named Akira has saved up a large sum of money to buy the latest and best personal computer - only to find out they are sold out. He then finds what he thinks is the same model number in an alley, and buys the large boxed-up machine from a shady character nearby. When he gets home, Akira is shocked to find that his new computer is a bio-android shaped like a pretty young lady. He is even more shocked when she tells him that she constantly needs his semen to refresh her physical memory.

interesting plot.... especially the semen thing..... ^o^

Added after 1 minutes:

English title for this one is "I Dream of Mimi" right?

Download 7zip and avoid cracking and annoying shit.

Post by: Smokey on January 27, 2009, 08:43:25 AM
Winrar need not be cracked and in chocofreaks case i doubt a Winrar install will last longer than 40 days so the nagscreen won't be an issue (btw Winrars nagscreen isn't an issue anyway)...
Title: so which -tan do you consider yourself?
Post by: NejinOniwa on January 27, 2009, 08:47:14 AM
Why bother? 7zip is superior software-wise, too.
Either pirate and crack it and use it fully, or dl something you don't have to crack to use fully.

I dislike trial-stuff with a passion.

And since i game on both my PC (well i will again after i buy her a new keyboard) and my laptop, Linux is poorly represented here...

I do have about 8 different linux distro's though... and i tried them all, they were awesome....

Off topic again people.  Christ on a cracker, off to the topicless thread with you or something.

I dont think there was a single on topic post after the first page. Imma have to whip you people.

Anyhow... hummm... Id say that Id be 95.  An old warrior that sits around reminising about the good old days, and hates the non MS OSes.  That, or Vista, being the secuirty minded one to the point of paranoia.  Remember, its for your own good.

*runs off*

But i think i'd be ME for crashing the threads...
Absolutely not Vista, because i don't really care about security...
And kinda 95 because i do get all nostalgic...

Added after 2 minutes:

BTW cappie was right, i thought this was about some os-tan related download, i didn't even know it was about wich os-tan you cinsider yourself....
I'm bad, i'll admit that... but this was a real trainwreck...

I haven't tried Linux at all (yet?), but there is a Sabayon Linux-tan:

http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11782/normal_Sabayon-tan.jpg

------

Now which OS-tan am I most like? This is a tough question! I'd say I'm most like...

Mac OS 9-tan as I am an artist, usually mild-mannered but can be hot-headed and I hate perversion!

or 95 OSR 2.1-tan because I like science fiction and the steampunk  subculture, and I lot of things I do tend to backfire! I'm also kind of old-fashioned!

or Commodore 64-tan because I like vintage technology, proudly identify myself as a geek, and can be sarcastic at times.

or Pilot OS-tan because I can be VERY cynical and swear! Plus I have strange tastes in music.

Title: so which -tan do you consider yourself?

One of my friends on the internet reminds me of Homeko... She's perverted and DRAWS PERVERTED THINGS. Sometimes she uploads stuff that I click on and I'm all.. "DO NOT WANT."
Title: so which -tan do you consider yourself?
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 07, 2009, 12:58:43 PM
Actually not. The OS-Tans are rather stereotypical, and my acquaintances are either too normal (in the case of my friends) or way too damn weird (my family).

Err... I don't know... I am too much of a guy to be a -tan... lol

But... if anyone matched my personality to the core... Vistan would be noted. I most of my life, I have been too careful of doing things, and people often consider me annoying at times. On top of that... I have trust issues. However, I think that is changing as coming into contact with people seems to be making me open up. In that case... I'd be more of a 7-tan now. 2k would be another match for me... I am quite reliable a person, or so I have been told.

In the end... I really don't know what to consider myself.... I have key traits of several '-tans.

Oh well... can't be helped. *shrugs and waltzes around*

.gif images are pretty simple stuff - use GIMP (http://gimp.org[/url), or any other software that allows layers in images. Then take the images you want to use, place them as layers in the order you want them, convert to indexed color map, resize to avoid HUEG filesize, and save as .gif, simple as that.

Alternately you could save them as .apng or .png (apng is for "Animated Portable Network Graphics", a variant of .png), which allows for better quality and RGB colors instead of indexed. I dunno if it works with GIMP, but since 3.0 I know at least Firefox supports the apng format...

very friendly, kinda classy and lover of the fine arts.
Rather self-confident, as my system is pretty refined. (I do have my low points though, like anyone does!)

Pfft, we're classy as hell!

Hm... been awhile since I assessed which -tan I might be... WWMMCS-tan maybe? Neurotic, melancholy, egalitarian toward different kinds of computers, permanently tried, plus the flippy brown hair thing. I could like, so cosplay her if I had an eyepatch. And if anyone outside our group knew what the hell a WWMMCS-tan is. XD;;

Well, this topic makes me feel old O_O

Lately, I seem to flip-flop between characters. While I still generally carry the same reliability as before (Like 2k), overall I seem to be the most like HURD-tan (As stated by Bella, when we talked about this a few months back on Skype, HURD and I are both "geeky, hardworking, and intelligent, but have had some trouble getting ahead in life because of the actions of others"). Although, sometimes I think that I'm borderline Ubuntu-tan; as I often try to avoid doing anything that could cause conflict (At least, with any matter involving my mom)

Like LINC-tan, I enjoy psychology, attempting to diagnose people/giving unwanted medical advice, am barely relevant, have trouble getting along with my peers, sections of my family hate me but I don't really care, am wary of military service, love Boston, can only feel attraction toward my mate, and love Whirlwind, DEC and MIT.

And we both have straight-cut bangs. : p

MCP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burroughs_MCP)-sama isn't an evil supercomputer, she's a really intelligent mainframe-tan and manager of some kind who's managed to stay relevant and working for the past 51 YEARS. Pretty sure she's the oldest documented employed OS-tans.

Tragic backstory elements, perpetually upbeat attitude, wide skill-set but with a natural talent for visual arts, helpful, acts young for her age, talent lies underutilized/untapped. Also: Red hair! (Although she's a ginger while i have literal red hair.)

PilotOS-tan comes to mind tbh....... or maybe PCDOS? Though "cheerful on the outside and bitter on the inside" describes most of the Commodore-tans too...

I think I might say I would consider myself the Windows ME-kun because first I am a male, and second my younger brothers used to jokingly accuse me of being clumsy since I had "reckless" stability issues when it came to running errands or doing favors for my parents. Dang, they even wrote a song about it on our family's piano!
Title: Re: so which -tan do you consider yourself?
Post by: Chocofreak13 on November 01, 2014, 03:08:11 PM
funny thing, ME-kun is actually quite stable and reliable. if you're looking for a reckless, clumsy OS-kun, your best bets would be Homeo or OSX-kun.

Oh okay, thanks Choco, you're right! I overlooked the full-dedicated page description of ME-kun on the OS-tan Collections Wiki. :( But yeah, that is kind of funny that any character representing WinME is actually stable! ;)
Title: Re: so which -tan do you consider yourself?
Post by: Chocofreak13 on November 02, 2014, 08:27:47 PM
it's an interesting coincidence, honestly, but i didn't write the character, just the page on him. i think he may either represent all ME was SUPPOSED to be or is for the die-hard fans of the OS who strive to make it work. (and my sister knew a few, they made a few nice games that were exclusively ME.)

I found (and restored using some geocities archive magic url) this old link: http://www.geocities.ws/xiwang_zitzit5/ostan/ostan.html

This quiz is old, as in predates Vista old. I know that you can get Longhorn as a response from this quiz.

Honestly, I don't like saying I am x OS-tan, as I do not feel I can evaluate myself properly in stuff like that. I got a DOS-tan. It was either MS-DOS-tan or DOS/V-tan, but I'm not sure which one the quiz says, and the results page doesn't show up. You can tell what result you got from the URL, but DOS is very ambiguous because of the two canon DOS-tans.

But my brother is ME-kun. No doubt about it. He's a reliable, smart brother.

@Duko: Holy shit, I think I remember seeing that waaaaaaaay back when I first joined this site. Thanks for recovering it :3
(Although, it seems its broken. Judging by the URL, I ended up as a "TWOK"; which all that comes to mind is I somehow took a OS-tan quiz and ended up as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. So I guess you can say OS/2-tan; since she's a Trekkie -w-; )

Well, I have an excuse for this image:

While I think it predates win we know now as OS/2-tan, you can interpret however you want, because I don't know what that is either.

@Pent: After messing with the quiz, I found out that you got 2k. The URL that indicates her is twok because I guess 2 is an invalid character.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say.

I got Mac OS 9 ...

The quiz gave me 2K-tan but I've always seen myself as a Homeo.

I still feel like Amiga-tan

>gets along with everyone
>will talk to anyone
>lots of interests
>art talent
>awkward
>interested in retro aesthetics
>likes retrocomputer(-tan)s and rescues them!

Fair enough!

As far as Windows-tans go, I don't see how I could be anyone but Secchan. >_>

I can dig it!

Now you have me thinking about character sexualities in general, though that's better saved for On Topic[less].

likely. but being Secchan means you'd have to ship yourself hard with Homeo. you okay with that?

I think Bella's of the kind to say "fuck it" and ship Secchan with Selectric-kun -w-;;
(Unless she does see Stew as Homeo. IDK)

Dating a DMAB person despite being dick-averse?

We're approaching spirit animal territory here!

If Stew == Selectric-kun then I would have to be CTSS-tan......

We do both share a mutual obsession with Multics so maybe that would work.

If Internet Explorer had an OS(i.e. Cromebook)  i would be that.

i have no idea what you just said.

the idea behind Chromebook is that google made a computer which can run off of their homebrew OS, but only off of that. so like, a Mac Jr. Chrome is to Google what IE is to Microsoft.

so IE can't really have an operating system when it already does. :\

Windows Mobile maybe?

Reasons I'm like Amiga-tan:
Reddish hair, physically awkward, artistic, good learner, likes retro, especially 50s/60s things, friendly with everyone, underutilized potential

Reasons I'm like Multics-tan:
Purpleish hair, interested in aesthetics, more interested in theory than practice, well-regarded despite not doing much, will never be over Emacs

Sometimes, I think the most accurate one for me would be PCDOS-tan; as mentioned earlier, "cheerful on the outside, bitter on the inside"...although, sometimes I'm more bitter than anything.

That's what i'm saying actually, if IE had an operating system like Chrome does, despite Windows existing.
it can't be a windows phone because windows has a good name, and even if it does have IE on it (Though I'm pretty sure it doesn't.)
It's still a way better quality device. internet explorer as far as i know never had an app store. Microsoft does but IE doesn't.

for that to happen, though, IE would need to be an independent company. :0

i think a LapZilla is more likely. :0

I can dig it! I'm not sure cheerful is exactly her default demeanor though, IIRC she runs cool on the outside, bitter on the inside.

I can also see Xerox PilotOS-tan or even OS/2-tan potentially matching with you.

And in a few ways I'm like Unix-sama, cause I love throwing things at people when I'm angry, I certainly have a temperamental side, I can live in very sparse conditions. ^___^;

WAT WERE YOU DOING 2008 BELLA?!

I also just went through the thread and found this:

To get this back on topic, do you have any friends or acquaintances that remind you of any of the OS-tan characters?

I reiterate: my professor is without doubt MTS-tan's (yes, that MTS-tan (http://bellacielo.deviantart.com/art/MTS-tan-Portrait-405158548), and even the description fits) spirit animal. Don'cha knooow.
