Title: Autotrace and Potrace
Post by: Raffaele the Amigan on September 21, 2007, 11:10:14 AM
As long as there was not created the Artists'corner forum here on OSTan-Collections site,  and I want to share with you the knowledge of these two good programs, then here it is up to you the links to Autotrace and Potrace, two programs which pick up bitmap images and transform it in vector graphics.

Potrace it is terrific, but works only in 1-bitplane (Black and White Only)...

I used it to make MorphOS-TAN becoming vector before giving it to C-Chan.

Autotrace it is lesser good than Potrace, but terrific again, and it creates also coloured vector graphics...

Potrace site:

Original Bitmap and Smoothed and Potraced one...

(Obviously the potraced image was then reconverted in bitmap to be seen here on normal browsers.)

Fufufu... that still sounds like an indirect whiplash.  ^^'

Don't worry, I'm working on her, I'm working on her.... ^v^;

Nope...

Sure you totally misinterpreted my words... ;014

It just sounds like someone who want to share its knowledges with a community of friends, and he is not at all such a bad selfcentred guy to hide informations to his friends and keep knowledge of good programs all by himself...

Baka...

Fufu... sorry... logic won't work with an ultra-paranoid pig.  ^.^
As far as I'm concerned, people are after me demanding their art projects completed in every corner, inside my closet, underneath my bed, peering through me from across the wall..... @v@

*imagines seeing Captain demanding 3.1/2.0 frolicking pic*

GAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!  >0<

*runs away*

BTW, I think my Linux install does have Potrace (or something similar too), but don't use it since Inkscape has a Bitmap tracing feature already.

Besides, I usually don't trace drawings like that since A) can't hand sketch to save my life, and B) vectorized bitmaps have 100 gajillion nodes on them, which really eats up on RAM and increases the overall file size.  Plus scalibility suffers too when you're trying to move somethign with so many nodes.... ^^;

Coffeee with Tequila? UGH!

Hey that's breakfast where I live.  >0<

[Just kidding.... ^^]

No but seriously, I'm working on your drawing.... -v-
Just have a lot of unexpected.............. "interruptions".  ^^;

This is a topic thread I want to create next, in Artists'Corner...

How to reduce redundant nodes in traced images...  ;010

Does the two flavours match together?

Liquor flavours that match coffee are Rhum, Grappa, Brandy, Sambuca, someones likes coffee with whiskey, but I think it is a limit solution...

And perhaps does not Tequila kill the flavour of coffeee...???

If you say me that is good, then I could taste it...  ;010

CTRL+L in Inkscape as many times as needed.  Problem solved.  ^v^

I will actually touch on that later in my tutorial....  ^.^

Yeah, that combination of alcoholic beverage + coffee bean extract is absolutely MARVELOUUUUUUUUUUUS.....  ^0^

*chuckles with mischief*

You could try it, but buy life insurance first before you do.  ^.^

*runs off chuckling mischievously*  ^V^
