Title: OS/2 Warp-tan & RISC OS-tan
Post by: C-Chan on August 13, 2006, 08:11:07 PM
Hello everyone!
Despite a few delays, I finally managed to whip up the chibi of the week!

Please welcome the true Windows alternative and founder of the Anti$oft Coalition....

...OS/2 Warp-tan!!  ^__^

<<<NOTE: PICTURE MOVED TO Annex (http://ostan.blackdiam.net/viewtopic.php?t=231)>>>

Still have a bio backlog, so this has to be yet another Post-&-Run!  ^^'

But as usual, just a few quick bullets:

- For a brief introduction and history about the OS/2 Operating System, please visit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS/2

Of course, there's still a huge and active OS/2 community out there that can explain the finer details.

- The Star Trek theme isn't artistic license - it actually has a lot to do with the real OS.

- I had an awful lot fun with her hair, as a way to illustrate her superior multithreading capabilities.  There are 6 and a half ponytails total, each representing all Star Trek series released to date.  (FYI, the half is for Star Trek: Enterprise.)

- Any similarities to the Windows NT's are purely intentional.  While she's only the half-sister of the original Windows -tans, it's suspected that her relationship to the NT -tans runs a little deeper.

- Despite that, she hates the Windows-tans with a vengeance and does everything in her power to torment them.  She's received traditionally poor support from IBM and suffers from increasing obsolence relative to the modern Windows -tans, but this by no way means she's a pushover.  With a bitter and volatile temperment, anyone ignorant of ways to safely approach her would be best advised to avoid her.  -__-'

Captain's Blog, Stardate 1994:

IBM and Microsoft have released a new OS. Her name is OS/2 Warp, and shall dominate the computer market. Tremble NT and 95, for OS/2 has arrived!

Great job C-Chan (as always)!

Thank you, NewYinzer!  ^___^

hehehe... "dominate" the computer market....  ^^;
Well, it was only IBM by then that released her (Microsoft having pulled their "fast one" 4 years earlier) and she COULD'VE dominated.  But IBM, as much as Microsoft and 3rd party developers, deserves much of the blame for her demise.

OS/2 can still live on as an open source OS, but even then IBM is still reluctant to give her any kind of life after "death" so to speak (IBM will officially pull the plug on her 12/31/2006).

It's no surprise that OS/2-tan hardly ever shows a sweet side -- the poor thing's known nothing but betrayal all her life.... ;___;

C-Chan added the following  7 minutes after last message :

Not much in the way of easter eggs on her, but (as with all OS-tans) clues of her identity are scattered throughout her body (e.g, her skirt and hair color).

Unfortunately, at this size, most of her logo renditions are barely visible.  So here's a closeup for your convenience:

IBM has caused the destruction of other OSes:

CP/M-86: IBM wanted to sell CP/M, but Digital Research didn't want to give up their rights to it. They then went to Microsoft for MS-DOS, the CP/M clone. Fearing a lawsuit, they offered to sell MS-DOS and CP/M-86 side by side. However, they sold MS-DOS at a lower price, so CP/M-86 fell out of favor and Digital Research collapsed.
OS/2: Originally regarded as "Windows Plus" by Steve Ballmer, it was the "OS of the Future". However, due to the bad decisions of IBM, it was not packaged with computers like Win3.0, so it never caught on.

Don't get her started on that prepackage blunder, now.  ^__^'

A rampage by anyone equipped with a phaser is NOT a healthy thing for anyone tonight......  ^.^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but CP/M-86 is in fact just one of the many previous incarnations of DR-DOS, right?  ^__^
In the interests of time, I'd really like for DR-DOS-tan to just be a catch-all for all her previous incarnations (e.g, CP/M, DOS Plus, Novell DOS, OpenDOS, etc....)

uuuuuuuhhhh...Higurashi style eyes  o_o . And she has a gun...not a good combination
*runs for 95-tan...no, all the Windows family help*

Nice design...but...a gun...what a dishonorable way of fighting. Katanna FTW!!!

Hehe.... it's probably the ton of hair that makes her look disproportionately lopsided.  ^__^
I know if I had THAT much hair, my neck would need the constant attention of a chiropractor.  -v-

Oh, and that's a little worse than a gun....  ^__-

'Tis a Phaser,... she is a die-hard Star Trek fan, after all.  ^___^

But don't worry too much about it.  It may be dangerous, but leave it to that wretched IBM to provide her with a dismal annual stipend that barely covers food,... let alone extra power cells.  ^__^;

And though she has her own business (which helps fund the Anti$oft Coalition, which in turn is dedicated to the complete and utter destruction of Microsoft), you can imagine that sales are a little slow these days (understatement).  ^.^;

You sound like me when I found the videos, several years ago. The Gary Kildall one explains CP/M the best. The Jack Tramiel one details the beginning of the end for Atari and Commodore, and talks about the early Amiga.

Fufufu.....  ^.^
You know,... OS/2 is so efficient, that with those pics it can still run like the wind!  ^_-

But all gloating aside, I'm glad you asked.  ^__^

Apparently, the IBM programmers were major Star Trek fans; and just like OSX versions are released with cat names, OS/2 versions (at least since the Microsoft breakup) were released with Star Trek-related names.  The name for the first major and most commercially-viable OS/2 release in 1994 was called "Warp" (after, of course, the fictional the method that Star Trek ships travel through space without the problems posed by light speed travel).

The association doesn't end there,...
During the opening ceremony for OS/2 warp, IBM wanted to hire Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) to be the master of ceremonies, but instead opted for Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) in honor of the then upcoming series "Voyager".  Even a video demo for the OS had Leonard Nimoy (Spock) highlighting the many features of the system.

Speaking of Spock, a friend of mine who saw the pic suggested I add Vulcan ears to her to further press both the Star Trek theme and the cat look.  I think that's already too much (besides, then she'd REALLY start to look like 2K-tan or the bootleg NT-tan), but that wouldn't be bad for fancomic material.  ^__^

naaa, I like the way it is, without cat ears. The eyes reminds me of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (see attached picture). And if OS/2 is as *evil* as you say, I think it suits her well :D

So cute, it's evil....  ^__^
You're right, that character almost has some cat-eye slits too.  ^.^

Deep down inside, OS/2 really isn't evil; but as far as the Windows girls (and sometimes Macs) are concerned, she's a borderline psychopath.  ^__^'

I remember my poor old 98-tan had only 128 megs of RAM, so even Photoshop 4.0/5.0 ran slow on her.  At the time I compensated with Paintshop Pro, but yeah it wasn't really the same.....  Ã,¬_Ã,¬

I would still need to whip up the "Shop" for the more complicated details.

I'd do an AMD-tan or Cyrix-tan LONG before I'd ever draw a Pentium-tan.  -v-

May have realized this by now, but I'm kind of a champion of the underdog.... ^__^

In the meantime, I just finished my new OS-tan Chibi of the week!  ^.^
I'm putting her in the same thread as OS/2-tan because:

a)  She's also a member of the Anti$oft Coalition

b)  She's OS/2-tan's very reliable second in command.  (or, as OS/2-tan would say, her "Number One")  [15 points if you guess the reference]  ^_-

c)  If I keep making new threads for each and every new OS-tan released, eventually Pitkin will turn me into bacon....  ^^;

So without further ado, please give a warm welcome to RISC OS-tan....!  ^v^

<<<NOTE: PICTURE MOVED TO Annex (http://ostan.blackdiam.net/viewtopic.php?t=231)>>>

Post-and-run again, you know the drill.... -v-

RISC OS-tan is considered one of the (if not THE) most efficient and stable operating system in the world.  But sadly she's not very outgoing, hence the reason why you've probably never heard of her (unless you're British a big fan of ARM computers).

Feel free to review the usual literature...  ^__^
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC_OS

She's a member of the Anti$oft Coalition only in solidarity with OS/2-tan (another overlooked OS-tan with great potential).  Otherwise, she has no specific gripe with Windows-tans other than the occasional infringement in her niche market.

If you know the system, you can probably identify the logos interspersed throughout.  In case you're wondering, btw, her pistol is a British-manufactured Webley Mk IV Service Revolver.  No need to panic as she is far more cool-headed than OS/2-tan (and besides, has horrible marksmanship anyway).  Her pistol is really more for show, as her real strength lies in her physical traits.  She's amazingly fast and agile, and while not particularly strong she is considered to be "unbreakable" (think the "Bruce Willis" kind).

I wish I had the time to pair her up with Windows 2.0-tan, but realistically-speaking this'll likely be another stand-alone chibi rendition.

Right now I'm debating whether to make her the older sister or mother of the modern Mac-tans.  So far I'm aiming more towards 'older sister', as the long-deceased Apple I would probably make a more appropriate mother figure.

I've been noticing that no one can agree if all OS-Tans are sisters, or are just related. Deja Vu's opinion that NT is the mother of XP and 2k was good, but Inu-T is okay (I guess).

Their [bootleg] NT or the canon NT?  From what I've seen there are two canon NT:

- the original Windows NT, who's the young sweet motherly woman with the light blue hair and ponytail.

- and Windows NT Workstation, essentially everyone's beloved little "Inu-T".

But otherwise, yes I would concur that the issue does mess with one's head....  O__o
Especially considering how often the physical ages are inconsistent with chronological ages; even though 3.1-sama looks like the youngest [canon] Windows-tan of all, she's old enough to be ME's grandmother!  X__x

But then the kettle's calling the pot black.... technically speaking, I should've made PET-tan the adolescent and C64-tan the kid, and not the other way around.... ^^;

BTW, now that I mentioned the subject, it's amazing how much OS/2-tan differed from the Bootleg NT looked I originally had planned.  The only thing I ended up borrowing from her were the glasses.  ^__^;
Title: OS/2 Warp-tan & RISC OS-tan
Post by: NewYinzer on August 20, 2006, 10:45:45 PM
Personally, I have a thing for [bootleg] NT. The concept fits more. Windows 98 is the more funloving home OS and NT is the serious, office OS. The saga needs a character like [bootleg] NT, but alas, 2k is fits the serious role well...

You too, huh?  'v'

Well, as you say, 2K-tan fits the role,... enough to give credence to the idea that Bootleg NT really was just a mere rehash of 2K (down to the ears).

But look at the bright side!  OS/2-tan also inherited the serious office-type personality from Bootleg NT!  ^__^
It's just that,... well,... um,... with all that evil, homicidal vengeance thing......... you know,..... it's not readily apparent at first....  ^_______^;

[to Kami-Tux] THANK YOU, KAMI-TUX!!!  ^V^
I'm glad you liked OS/2-tan!!!!  She is indeed poor (literally,... IBM's stipend sucks), so she could use all the love (and spare hardware) she can get!  ^v^

*RISC-tan storms off*

Oh no no no, RISC-tan!  Everyone likes you too...!  ^.^

[to NewYinzer]  Well, I already said you rock, so you're set.  ^__^

[to SleepyD]  THANK YOU, SLEEPYD!!!!!  ^V^
Thank you for adopting OS/2-tan for drawing material!!!  ^v^

Would you like to do a full-body drawing (like your 2K-tan), or chibi?  ^v^
Whatever you end up with, if you need anything just ask!  I'll support you with anything 110%!!!  ^-^

Oh what the heck...

I'll make it 115% just for you!  ^.^

RISC-tan! Come back!
*RISC-tan runs toward NewYinzer*
We'll have tea and talk!
*RISC pulls out revolver*
Oh no, I'm not gonna fall for that again!
*Pulls out lightsaber*
RISC-tan: Freeze!
*NewYinzer runs after RISC-tan*
RISC-tan: I said freeze, sucka!
*RISC-tan fires, bullet deflected by NewYinzer*
RISC-tan: Eek!
"NewYinzer pulls out tazer, fires*
NewYinzer: She'll be out for a few minutes. Just enough time to tie her up and take her back to England!

Looks like I found that out the hard way. Any way, she's tied up to a car, so she can't get away!
*car drives off in the distance*
My car! At least it wasn't the Yinzermobile! Ah well. It was a lease.

*sweatdrops*  Lease....?
Like, you mean,... in your name....?  Ã,¬___Ã,¬'

Let's see if I can connect the dots....  -__-'

RISC-tan has your car.....
RISC-tan is a member of the Anti$oft Coalition.....
OS/2-tan, leader of the Anti$oft Coalition, has a nasty vendetta against the Windows girls.....

Ergo,...

You can bet that car is gonna be used to torment them in some way.  ^^'

Let's just hope 95-tan will be reasonable enough not to think you had a hand in any of this.  ^^;

Oh yeah, definitely!!  It's measured in Supportograms!  Didn't you know that?  `v'

Tsk, tsk, tsk....  -v-

*shakes head in disapproval*

Well, it's certainly up to you to decide whether to finish 2K-tan.  If you ask me I think she looks fine already,... but then with your OS/2 Warp-tan project on the horizon, this pig has a very obvious Conflict of Interest.  ^__^;

Anyway, some more info on OS/2-tan to help you with the full-body pic....

1)  She's a tad shorter than 2K-tan, so I'll guesstimate OS/2-tan's height to be somewhere around 165cm.

2) She's thin enough to make Darknight proud,... but then, so are all OS-tans if you think about it.  ^___^;

3) If you're a Star Trek viewer, use "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" as a guide for the full-body version of her uniform/phaser.

4) She has six head-to-toe-length ponytails and a half-length one.  All of them are formed with individual hair-ties as you can see from my pic -- what aren't visible (because they're behind each ponytail) are the major starfleet insignias for each Star Trek series attached to each tie.  ^^'

5) Her boots are sharp-looking, but matte and the heel really isn't that high.    (All in all, they should look very comfortable to wear and run in, unlike RISC-tan's shoes....  Ã,¬__Ã,¬')

But these, of course, are just my own suggestions.  As long as you feel the urge to draw, feel free to add your own artistic license to your design! ^_'

Don't worry. The lease for the car is in the name of a Cayman Islands holding corporation. Technically, the owner is not me, but the First National Cayman Banana Bank. They leased it, they have insurance, the car could be in Cleveland by now. All I need is to call BMW, and they can located it via GPS. Soon I will know the location of the Anti$oft Coalition!

*folds down newspaper*  Ahhh, so that's why 95-tan is running amok in the Cayman Islands.  Well, as long as she takes down those tax havens, I won't say a thing.  ^__^

Oh, you wanna visit the Anti$oft Coalition headquarters?

Here you go.  ^__^
OS/2-tan and RiSC-tan will be out for a while, but QNX-tan can be your host till then.  Money's tight again, though, so hope you don't mind crackers, olives and clam juice.

QNX-tan is hospitable at least; but word of advice, stay away from Tandy-tan.  She's............... cranky.................  -___-'

um... yah.

I had an hour or two between classes, so.... yah.  Quick drawing, don't expect quality.  Legs are horrendous.  Anyhoo, I was just getting my ideas down.

I tried not to put too many logos and things on there.  I mean, if people want to draw her, I don't think they'd be drawing logos, would they? The thing on her collar? I put the symbols ">" and "c" together.  "> c," "greater than the speed of light," "WARP".  Follow my logic? ^^

And... I simplified the idea with the hair.  I'm not sure if actually having an exact number would go well with artists... ^^; It's hard to even get her in a pose where you see em all. ...well anyway, at the bottom, you see I had fun with the hair idea. ^^

...I don't know why I thought of putting a stock on the phaser. XD;;  I mean, do those things have much recoil anyway? Why stock on a pistol? yeah... got the idea from H&K VP70.  Thank you Gunslinger Girl for introducing me to that.

GYAAAAAAAH!!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!  ^V^

1,245 points for SleepyD!!!!   I LOVE THIS SKETCH!!!!  ^V^

QuoteI had an hour or two between classes, so.... yah. Quick drawing, don't expect quality. Legs are horrendous. Anyhoo, I was just getting my ideas down.

That's fine,... in fact, better than fine.  It looks great just as it is (the legs aren't that bad), so I can imagine it'll be mind-blowing once the real inking starts.  Remind me to get a helmet.  ^v^

QuoteI tried not to put too many logos and things on there. I mean, if people want to draw her, I don't think they'd be drawing logos, would they? The thing on her collar? I put the symbols ">" and "c" together. "> c," "greater than the speed of light," "WARP". Follow my logic? ^^

Truth be told, not drawing logos certainly reduces the risk of legal ramifcations, so that was an excellent choice on your part.  I try to follow suit, but naturally some real logos survive intact here and there (PalmOS is my biggest culprit).  Would certainly explain why none of the Windows-tans have the Windows logo fully intact (except, perhaps, on 95-tans battle suit).

The >C symbol is an excellent idea, very clever and obvioiusly a good application of your l33t math skills.  ^.^
This is why I've prayed very hard for other artists such as yourself to adopt  these new -tans -- with your fresh ideas, you're able to expand on and refine the original preconcepts.  ^v^

QuoteAnd... I simplified the idea with the hair. I'm not sure if actually having an exact number would go well with artists... ^^; It's hard to even get her in a pose where you see em all. ...well anyway, at the bottom, you see I had fun with the hair idea. ^^

No problem,.. besides, from a practical standpoint and considering her busy schedule, I doubt she'd really care much to keep her hair style consistent every single day (unlike RISC-tan, who's extremely fastidious about how she looks, right down to the direction of her bangs).

I originally preferred very long hair, but your idea of ponytails that can expand/contract and have a life of their own sounds WAY cuter (and appropriate).  ^___^

Sorry if it took me a while to right this, but I was literally ROTFLing for hours watching the little comic strip below.  I love every bit of it, plus it opens new doors for comic situations!  ^v^

Just quiz me on what she's multithreading, please:

-Painting
-Holding palette to paint
-Vacuuming
-Vaporizing someone in the distance
-Fifth one I can't make out though, but is she shooting at someone up close?  '_'

BTW,... is it just coincidence that a freak accident recently turned me from a handsome pig into a ME-tan, and that you drew OS/2-tan aiming her phaser,....

...at a ME-tan....?  @__@

*shudders*

Quote...I don't know why I thought of putting a stock on the phaser. XD;; I mean, do those things have much recoil anyway? Why stock on a pistol? yeah... got the idea from H&K VP70. Thank you Gunslinger Girl for introducing me to that.

Not only are you an admirable artist, but I see you have demigod-like tastes in Anime references.

2300 points for paying homage to Claes-sama!!  ^V^

The phaser (at least that type of phaser) doesn't have much recoil, true, but the stock can also help with accuracy since that particular phaser type is not as sophisticated as the 24th century versions.  Comfort too.  AND she can hide/store it within the stock as well.

Plus IBM has never really helped her to pay for her weapons, so it wouldn't be any surprise that she's had to "mod" her phaser to extend its operational life.

All these are fantastic ideas, and for once I'm grateful that I'm a ME-tan since I now have thumbs to "thumb up" with!   ;010

The Windows-tans had their day when lots of artists pitched in collectively to create the looks, personalities and habits that we've grown to love so much.  I'm ever hopeful that perhaps now it's our turn....  ^v^

(Ohhh, and what the hay,.... In the spirit of celebration....! ^v^
1000 points for Newyinzer for holding down the fort while I was off ROTFLing!  ^-^)

I'm putting her in the same thread as OS/2-tan because:

a)  She's also a member of the Anti$oft Coalition

b)  She's OS/2-tan's very reliable second in command.  (or, as OS/2-tan would say, her "Number One")  [15 points if you guess the reference]  ^_-

c)  If I keep making new threads for each and every new OS-tan released, eventually Pitkin will turn me into bacon....  ^^;

So without further ado, please give a warm welcome to RISC OS-tan....!  ^v^

All I know is that this is available on Acorn computers and it is widely know n in Europe. Although it is popular in Europe, this was almost never heard in Asia and it has a very few amount of users in the American continent. My Linux user buddy told me that he have those ones as a gift by his dad in Canada, but since it is to believe that this is not available in the United States. It was shipped from Toronto to New Jersey for him to use it.

By the way, nice job you made on RISC-tan . I like her outfit and the expression of his face. Keep on rollin's pal!  ;019

By the way, what is that thing on her gun?

You said the gist of it,... Great system, but sadly not very well known.  Her suit is meant to be very sharp, clean and professional, as she's very strict about what she wears and how she wears (indicative of the fact that RISC OS will only work on certain hardware specifications).  And that's the kind of expression you get after working for many years alongside OS/2, trying to maintain the A$ Coalition half-way respectable (poor RISC-tan... 'v').

As we've seen, Paint does the job and quite well if I might add.  ^__^

But if you're looking to upgrade to something more feature-rich (and that has layering capacity, truly an artist's best friend) without having to invest in (or "borrow") Photoshop, you're probably in the best position to try out GIMP.  ^.^

Do you know the first scene of the simpsons series. imagine such a sitution, only it is not Bart Simpson but Kami-Tux writing on the blackboard: HUMAN RIGHTS ARE INDEPENDENT FROM CHOSEN OS! HUMAN RIGHTS ARE INDEPENDENT FROM CHOSEN OS! HUMAN RIGHTS ARE INDEPENDENT FROM CHOSEN OS!

But still: *looks eerily at the 2k-tan* how do you manage to run for more than 7 seconds? When I tried 2k it stalled after that period.

It's called fervor, my dear Kami-Tux!  ^__^

True, despite the propaganda, I have first hand experience that 2K-tan is a saggy ol' klunker... *feels breasts*

Is the folded skirt negotiable? Cause I already did it like this...and personally, I think she looks better like that =/ (folded skirts remind me of schoolgirls...and OS/2 doesn't seem to be one). Any observations about the rest of the uniform? I couldn't find a good image of the uniforms.

And one last thing: this is inkscaped. Vectorized at monochrome, 20 layers. Anyone knows If there's any way to erase the white areas and just leave the  black lines? (A.K.A: Transparent) that'd save a lot of time when inking (workpaths, stroke path, rinse and repeat...)

Jeff likes.  ;010

Jeff also agrees with the skirt thing.  Boots look nice too. Makes her look... professional? ^^;
Jeff notices that the ">c" symbol has been adapted.
Jeff likes that too.  ;010

Question: Should the hair be tied or just be thread-y? Jeff thinks this looks better.

Overall, if you haven't figured it out already, Jeff approves.  ;010

Jeff suggests combining features of real-life military uniforms with the star trek one to fill in details and to avoid copyright infringement.

Jeff still doesn't know much about inkscape and would like to know as well.

Jeff also realizes he is speaking in third-person and doesn't really know why or care.

Good day.

Good day.
Darknight_88 is glad that everyone [who have posted up to this time] likes this preliminary drawing (in fact, its the final, he just have to add colors xD)
Darknight_88 agrees,  that with this style of skirt and boots, she looks more professional (...like a professional assassin?  ;026 ).
Darknight_88 liked the idea of the >C, so he decided to use it for this drawing.
Darknight_88 also likes the idea of combining real life uniforms with the OS/2 design (in fact, while drawing, he was thinking in the Earth Alliance Uniforms, from Gundam Seed, and other real life uniforms. One of the reasons for the skirt).
Darknight_88 would still like to know If there's a way to make this drawing transparent, because he's lazy, and he will have to start inking this tomorrow.
Darknight_88 realizes that he's also speaking in third person.

...
Oh, yah, I didn't drew her with glasses, I'll do that once I start with photoshop. Still thinkin if giving her "Evil Rena" eyes [cat eyes...] or leave them as they're now.
...
I will try to conduct a test now to try the vectoring power of Inkscape with color pics. Maybe I can save a lot of work that way and make it more interesting. We'll see-

Okay, I'm up.
Okay, this is just awesome, and I really have to thank you and SleepyD for adopting her.  ^__^
Her chances of appearing, at least in a tiny footnote on Wiki, more plausible thanks to you guys.  ^.^

Anyway, quick run down:

-Phaser looks great,.. has that "pistol" look from the V-IV movies that convinces me that Paramount simply took any old gun prop and put half a hairdryer over it.  But yes, the results are great!  ^v^

-The ">C" was a great idea on both your parts and i will add the same in my full-body version (the chibi stays since she is technically a "preconcept").  As i said before, having other artists is important since fresh new ideas are continuously added to improve on the originals.  (">C" seriously would never had occurred to me.  ^__^)

-I know you said later that you forgot the glasses and certainly adding them would give her that 2K-tan ancestry look.  But according to my preconcept backstory, the glasses are a fairly recent addition (age and all...) .  Certainly in her youth, she'd appear a lot like what your pre-ink looks like.  ^.^

-The belt rendition done by you and SleepyD works for me.  ^__^

-We've all drawn different shoes, but just like most of the other OS-tans, her wardrobe does change.  It wouldn't be unlike her to have worn all three pairs at once, although your pair seems the best suited for a combat mission.  ^__^
(or any of her attempted "assassinations" as you suggested).

-The eyes,... ^.^
Evil Rena really does live on in OS/2-tan.... ^v^
-Although the hair is tied in my preconcept and SleepyD's large rendition, again this can change.  In fact, she HAS to untie them if she wants to "multitask" (or go "Medusa" on someone... *snicker snicker* ^.^)
I love the way it looks loose like that, btw,... Makes her seem larger, more,... "unleashed".  ^v^
And again, looks more combat ready.  Look 95-tan!!!  You're day has come!  `v'
(unless that wretched IBM saves you again, those basTURDS.... >_<)

-I made my Star Trek uniform lavendar to avoid such infringements, but again I wouldn't mind making the Star Trek reference more subtle (in the same way that logos are subtle in other OS-tan designs).  So both of youz, please feel free to embellish.  ^.^
(only saw the original Gundam, btw, not SEED or any of the later series....  -__-)

-The skirt you put is actually more like the onces used in the original Star Trek: Motion Picture uniforms -- it looks fantastic, but just thought you should keep that in mind if you want to move a little further from the Star Trek influence.  ^.^
Brief history on the folded skirt.  Since I released PC-DOS yesterday, would you say now that the skirt looks vaguely familiar?  `v'

.
.
.

Yep, tis an old standard-Issue IBM employee skirt (complete with the IBM black-and-blue colors).  Given to her back in the day when the company gave a crap about her well-being,... and still used to this day every time laundry funds run dry again and she's out of clean clothes.  ^.^
It works on PC-DOS-tan cause,... well,... she actually DOES look like a schoolgirl, but yes feel free to give her more professional wear.  ^.^
If anything, I can turn the folded skirt into an injoke (like I sorta just did....  ^v^')

-I think I see what you mean about the torso thing.  Okay, I'll see if I can get Poser to yield me those proportions for the more vixen OS-tans (like full-body Lisa-tan or AtariTOS-tan),   'v'

-Did I forget to mention how extraordinarily awesome this is yet?  ^__^
That does it, 15,000 points for the Darknight!
And throw in another 5,000 to SleepyD for his own two-cents!
And what the heck, to NewYinzer too just for being in the general vicinity!

Come one, come all and get your free points while I'm in a joyous mood!!  ^V^

Okay, give me another second for the Inkscape instructions....  ^.^

Eh,... It's great if you've never seen Anime before, but hard to really dig once you do.  Since it is still a TV series, it can never really get extraodinarliy creative (even with all the CG battle scenes).  E.g., 99% of all aliens are humanoid in appearance. -v-

QuoteAnd one last thing: this is inkscaped. Vectorized at monochrome, 20 layers. Anyone knows If there's any way to erase the white areas and just leave the black lines? (A.K.A: Transparent) that'd save a lot of time when inking (workpaths, stroke path, rinse and repeat...)

Okay, first off, thank you for your decision to adopt Inkscape as your Vectoring Tool of choice.
Assuming you save frequently, you will never regret the decision.  ^__^

Secondly, by white areas do you mean the fill within the path lines or just that white "paper" background that shows up by default in the Inkscape screen?  To remove the Fill, press CTRL+SHIFT+F to pull up the Fill/Stroke menu, click on the Fill tab, and select the X to remove the fill.  Likewise, you can select the two gradients and patterns to add other effects.

Now if you want to export just the lines to something like Photoshop, all you need to do is remove the fill for all your objects and just Export Bitmap to a PNG file (and make sure saved to a BIG resolution to make life on you easier later on.... ^^).  When you open it Photoshop, the lines will be layed out on a transparent background, which you can copy and paste to a different layer (although be warned that the PNG file won't retain Layering information).

Truth be told, however, you're probably better off adding the base colors in Inkscape anyway, since it makes it very easy to change afterwards (much easier than Photoshop, in that respect).  Depending on your level of experience with it thus far, I can assure you thatit will, at least, be faster.  ^.^

Shading is a different matter, however, and I wouldn't blame you if you found it more intuitive to do it on Photoshop.  (unless you like cel-shading,... I forgot if you did...)  -v-

Perhaps everytime a custom tan comes up the other artists should give it a go and put the character into their stule like darknight did... on second thought we would be spending all out time drawing C Chans characters, so maybe not.

Inked with Photoshop due to its lower RAM conmpsumtion and more familiar tools, compared against Inkscape =/. Posted image its half the size of the original (I realized that in my 95-tan CS drawing, Its easier to draw something big and then resize it than doing it all in a small drawing)
Used variable width lines in the hair. Waiting for /ic/ critique, in hopes of learning how to apply the "variable width" technique to the entire drawing.

Oh wait, no, I'm thinking of her greatest dislikes.  ^^'

Nope, the tragic part is that her own company is her greatest weakness.   -v-'
That, and eternal money shortage as well as less-than-reliable assistants.

I'm still trying to work out how eComstation-tan (eCS-tan, for short) will figure into the equation, but for sure she represents OS/2-tan's last [realistic] hope for any form of succession [unrealistic hope = IBM releasing her as open source].

Hehe,.. sure, back in the 90's when she was a proud, closed-source proprietary system, and had at least marginal respect for IBM.  ^^'

But now desperate times call for desperate measures, and as much as she's not fond of the idea, she must either exposes herself to all the adoring fans she has left or be forever trapped in a life of discontinuation.  (ME-tan, anyone?)

And she has until 12/31/2006, with the clock ticking fast.....

I tell ya, it just ain't easy being OS/2-tan.  -v-
