In a forum relevant topic for projects/hobbies, I was talked into trying out Garuda Linux on one machine, so that was a project. I had so many small bugs add up over time that even on just a for fun machine it wasn't really sustainable (the funniest one that was relatively harmless was setting the built in firefox as my default browser nuked the firefox icon system wide into a '?' lmao), hence the reinstall (of unfortunately, for that machine, Windows lol). I did give thought on what an OS-Tan for Garuda would be like! I imagined a dragon. Hm, poor wording maybe. Surprisingly, Garuda comes with a Linux tan in its default wallpaper selection.

How are you liking Garuda? I would love to hear about your ideas for a Garuda-tan. ^_^

Not only do I still get enjoyment out of said art, I still actively use it for wallpapers in my rotations, they're super cute. I also even noticed you uploaded a Mac tan and System 6 tan artwork to the gallery recently, ones I had commissioned actually! If you'd like to tag the artist, it's Kennymap as the filename implies. I do have a Cheetah tan one as well I'll likely hand off... who I've noticed has been getting love recently! As the tan I use for my main desktop, that was pleasing!

Nifty, I'll tag them! And yes Cheetah-tan seems to be getting her flowers recently, which makes me happy, I've always been a big fan of her design.

Hello, it's me, I love commissioning artists, I am an interested, especially in OS tan stuff! lol (this System 6 icon is relatively new as well, snagged all my computers one in this style)

As for Garuda, it had a sleek but not quite gaudy looking interface even if some of the setting locations were nonsensical (to turn off window tiling, you don't go to the area literally named 'window behavior settings', you go to, drumroll, 'display settings'!). While it was pretty buggy too (touted as also including its own installer, it couldn't update its own AUR files and just did a popup that says 'use external program') it had its charm, and unlike most times I've tried Linux, hey, it ran! Pretty decently too, benchmarks seemed to give it around W11 performance. As for their tan, their iconography and style, as well as some included backgrounds, focus on an eastern style dragon and the closer to namesake eagle, so I had immediately pictured it as a type of haughty looking bird girl (feathered arms maybe), perhaps with eastern dragon like horns that jut back on the head for a crown-like hat, which would fit the mythology a little. I didn't have the system installed long, but I did think about it a little!

Still Macs over here for main machines though, naturally, I just have a separate machine for some fun still.

@Krizonar - thank you for the condolences, though the parent lost was abusive, so i have.....mixed feelings about that. i grieved what my Dad WASN'T, not what he WAS. at the very least life has been brighter without his constant dark cloud hanging over. but yeah, mixed feelings. as for the other stuff, i quit the job in a spectacular fashion, my first bout of covid was like being Rip Van Winkel in that i mostly slept the whole time and lost like, 2 and a half weeks, i was only homeless for about two months in the summer and at least had a car to sleep in (miss that car), and we're doing what we can for Mum's diagnosis (she's going in for more tests in a few weeks, then hopefully medication). sorry for trauma dumping, lol.

@Bella - i need to get better at the whole commission thing, but i undervalue myself and the ADHD keeps my mind like a sparkler in that it bounces from one thing to the next. so it's quite hard to lock in on that...

Understandable, we've all had quite some life experiences since we last saw each other, I think it's reasonable for us to get each other up to speed, no shame in it. My mother got cancer for a third time and passed away about 5 years ago, which simultaneously seems like something that happened a long time ago when put into words like that for old friends, but feels like it happened yesterday to me.

Garuda looks slick as hell, I'm glad it runs well too! Putting that on my list of distros to demo when I make the jump to Linux full(ish) time, still riding W10 until the wheels fall off of it.

I dig those ideas for Garuda-tan as well! Nothing I love more than a bird girl. ^_^

How are you liking the state of Macs in 2026? I like what Apple Silicon has done for weight/heat/power consumption, and if I had to buy a new laptop tomorrow I would go Apple or Framework. But by the same token I miss the flexibility that Intel provided.

That being said my daily driver mobile computer is an iPad Pro + keyboard, I took an older mbp on a two week trip with me and didn't touch it because the ipad handled everything I needed.

Bells truly has blossomed into an iPad baby, while I still refuse to interact with larger touchscreens as much as possible lol.

Don't worry I got it, I have a ton of things in my art comm pipeline atm, but expect some action on that nice digital art soon! Here's to one more (probably more than that over time, let's be real) Cheetah piece! Birds are pretty great, especially magic/royal ones, just a cool vibe I imagine. Just be aware Garuda is arch based.

I transitioned to the M series as soon as it came out and got sued by Mcdonalds for saying I'm lovin' it too much, typing to you from an M1 Ultra and still on my base M1 for the laptop side of things and both feel pretty new still. Zero intel programs on my machines but stuff within Crossover anyway so no worries for me, though I do have two custom built machines in ready order currently, the fun experiment system I spoke of (which runs cancer research in world community grid for understandable reasons) and a side game host machine I tend to remote into with Parsec, which I sometimes also sit at, for some of the more pesky games. Both are full amd systems though heh.

My mom had an iPad Pro, I only have an iPad mini, but it still does everything I like it to do (mostly being lazy in bed or reading in questionable positions/locations), surprisingly capable and snappy little things. And you're very sweet, thank you.

@Krizonar - i'm sorry. fuck cancer. at least she's not suffering, though as someone who lost their grandma 14 years ago (she did a large part of raising me), it never really gets better, just....easier.

@stewartsage - the fact that Bells has blossomed into an ipad baby is hilarious to me. though tbh i'm picturing a cabbage patch kid with a tablet. xD

@Bella - the fact that you're my friend is more than enough. :3
