Technical details

Originally developed by the University of Michigan for the IBM System/360 and /370-series mainframes (and other compatible computers), MTS is one of the earliest timesharing OSes. It continued to be developed by a consortium of eight universities in Canada, the US and UK for a period of 33 years.

Character details

MTS-tan is portrayed as a tall, heavyset woman with long blonde hair worn pulled back from her face and irregularly-colored green eyes. Her unusual attraction to flashy and sparkly things is apparent in her choice of dress; she often wears elaborate outfits. Even when she doesn't, she'll always have a few items of gaudy jewelry on - her favorite piece being a green light-bulb necklace.

In addition to being unusually tall, MTS-tan has the ability to absorb heat from her environment - a power that gives her an exceptionally high body temperature. As such, she is prone to heat exhaustion in warmer temperatures. She loves winter and cold weather, and tries to limit her world-travels to cool locations. She is especially fond of the American Midwest, Canada and the United Kingdom.

MTS-tan speaks with a heavy nothern-Midwestern/Candian accent and has an enthusiastic and easily-excitable personality - she's notoriously loud, talkative and prone to distraction, especially when it comes to bright or shiny objects. Her warm personality has made her universally liked by the people she works with, so her strange traits tend to be treated less as shortcomings and more as endearing quirks. A bibliophile, she loves reading and paper products, and is also a rabid fan of the UM Wolverines.

Relationships and Family

Multics

MTS-tan is a distant relative of Multics-tan and greatly admires Multics - an admiration she often expresses physically. Multics is abashed by MTS' treatment of her and views MTS as something of a strange country-cousin.

KRONOS

Kronos-kun and MTS-tan dated for a time, but they eventually broke up because of personality differences - KRONOS being quite stoic and calm, and MTS being touchy, warm and lively.

DEC-tans

MTS is antagonistic toward the DEC-tans.
