This template was created for the sole purpose of establishing an easy to use character info-box within the OS-tan wiki. The infobox you now see is meant to be used for characters that are personifications of operating systems (a.k.a. OSes), other templates will be created specifically for other types of personifications as they come of need.

Properly built character articles should make use of this template as it is easy to use and there is not much code used in the user side. This would prevent any inconsistencies between infoboxes, even more it would have a set standard of required info to be given in order to maintain an acceptable degree of quality.

The current version of the infobox is modified and ported from [[Template:OStaninfo]], which was in turn modified from the original infobox still seen below. Updating this infobox would be much less tedious than replacing all 100+ pages still using this one.

==Usage==

This template is meant to reduce effort in the construction of tables and give all people the ability to fill out the infobox quite easily and without hassle. all you need to do is copy the following code and paste it at the beginning of the article you want to create/modify/whatever.

Windows Server 2008 (formerly known as [[Longhorn | Longhorn]], not to be confused with the Longhorn that later became Windows Vista) is [[2003 Server | Windows Server 2003's]] successor and is the latest server OS from Microsoft. It is built with the same code base as Windows Vista and shares most of Vista's features.

Like Server 2003-tan and Server 2000-tan, Server 2008-tan is half girl and half mackerel. The mackerel part is yellow and she has curly blonde hair, gold bracelets, a tiara (instead of a hub that the other Server-tans have on their heads) and her maebari (strip worn to cover the genitals) is made of 18-karat gold. “Vis-tan”, as this character is usually known by among the OS-tan community, is the character personification of Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System. However, unlike its previous predecessors globally accepted common design, Vis-tan is one to not to have a set design that everyone accepts. This has brought about an air of controversy around it as everyone simply seems to want their designs as the accepted one. However, it can be said that there are popular designs that are most often seen, such as the “Visbou” and “Vistake” designs that are mainly supported by a Japanese image board called [[Futaba]], while the [[+Nijiura +]] image board supports “Chiivis-tan”, one of its more popular designs.

==Personification of Vistan==
Vistan, as previously stated, has no standard appearance that is accepted by all people in the OS-tan community. Support to any design made is usually known to come from the local group of people of the site where the image originated from, as with the case of Futaba and +Nijiura+ where each site supports their versions and seem “disregard” the other’s. However, there are places where there is support for designs that originate from both image boards, but this is more of a subject of personal opinion of the people rather than common fact, as some may support one or another design.

===Futaba’s Popular Designs===
The community of the Futaba image board had presented multiple proposals to implement a standard design for the Windows Vista operating system. Something peculiar about the Futaba designs is that they seem to lack any real representation of the OS itself, except for the occasional logo inclusion that makes its way to some of the drawings. Many character design proposal have been made, and most were liked. However, only two of those designs have come to be the most popular and overall supported by the image board:

* One of these designs is nicknamed '''Visbou''', which is most often depicted as a young ninja girl. There have been instances where she had been drawn as an adult, but these are usually mature (ecchi or hentai) drawings, so the true essence of it being a version proposal may be questionable. She has grey colored hair, usually drawn short, not going much too further down than her neck. She has light-toned skin color. On her head she wears brown hairclips which seem to resemble screws. For an outfit, she wears a ninja suit of a navy color; the suit’s hakama has open sides that show part of her legs, though this seemingly goes by personal preference of the artists. A signature item she wears with the suit is a red-colored scarf; this one is usually quite long, reaching down to her knees if not depicted as long as to reach the girl’s feet.

*Another designs very popular designs was dubbed '''Vistake''', a girl that wears a sailor fuku. Like Visbou, she has grey hair; though opposed to the previously mentioned, this one has long hair that reaches down to her back if not longer. Her hair is usually kept in a ponytail that bears a grey colored (if not being an actual metal) screw-resembling hairclip. Another of these screw-like objects is found seemingly embedded on her forehead to (seemingly) match the hairclip. However, there have been instances where the design has been made to look like the “Xbox 360” logo, or at times simply not be drawn at all. She wears a red and white colored sailor fuku outfit, these two being the colors of most of the piece of clothing from the neck down. Of her clothes, the ascot, the shirt’s neck, the skirt and the shoes are colored in red, the rest in white. And exception to this seemingly common (and unwritten) rule may be her stockings, which are usually are striped red and white; though, this (style, stripe width and/or dominant color) may be differ from artist to artist. In terms age, this one seems to vary much more than the Visbou design; many images have depicted her with apparent ages from 12 years old and going all the way up to 21 or so.

===+Nijiura+’s Popular Designs===
The +Nijiura+ community (much like in Futaba) have presented and give support mainly, if not only, to their community’s proposed character designs to personify the Windows Vista operating system. A thing that has been seen in common in all of the designs is that the character proposal are highly representing of their character. They have many designs presented, but in the same way as Futaba, only two have been more popular than the rest:

*One of these is designs is known as '''Chiivistan''', a girl sporting a rather revealing suit. This fair skinned girl has green colored hair, said to be representing of the OS’ login screen and default background. Her hair is quite long, usually reaching down to the lower portion of the girl’s legs; a small portion of it is usually kept in a pair of pigtails while the rest sits there on the middle. A collar of a rather eccentric appearance floats or hangs around her neck; it has the Windows “shield” logo that is used to set apart all security features that the operating system has; underneath the shield logo the word “Vista” is written in green. She wears a sort of penguin coat or vest of a black color. This coat is the only thing that she wears to cover her top, and even then it is quite the revealing piece, letting view of the whole center portion of her body, or at least that’s how it is being portrayed (it does seem to have a zipper, or something that would merge that area together). It can be noted that the lower portion of the coat she wears bears transparency, this reflecting on the Aero transparency features that the OS has. Nothing more than pair of black panties cover lower portion of her body; however, it is to note that these are a matching part of the outfit. Black stockings cover up most of her legs, up to her thighs; this while she wears a pair of boots that are either colored white or black, with red borders. Within this design, there are two separate variations of Chiivistan in terms of apparent age; one is is that of a young girl, probably being in her early teens, while the other is a more matured girl bearing physical maturity comparable to [[XP-tan]].

* The other design hasn’t been named as of current knowledge, but it is quite popular among the +Nijiura+ community; this design being that of a young teenager girl. This one has short gray hair, comparable to Futaba Channel’s Visbou design. This girl wears a more simple (and much more conservative) outfit; a one-piece, sleeveless sailor fuku outfit to be exact. However, she does wear sleeves that cover everything from her wrists to her biceps. Like the “Chiivistan” design, this one has a pair of stockings that reach up to her thighs. When it comes to coloring, this may be the Vistan design with the most color variations of all, having all of the colors representing each of the Windows Vista DVD cases (the two shades of green, the blue, and black). There are even instances where the outfit’s fabric has been given transparency to reflect on the Aero features.

===Other Designs===
There have been other suggestions as to how should the Windows Vista operating system be really personified. Among these, there are other OS-tans designs from both Futaba and +Nijiura+ that, though were eventually set aside for their two main character, were thought of as promising candidates to be the “standard” Vistan design.

Many people, both from the Futaba and Nijiura communities as well as other OS-tan communities and solo fans, have suggested that Vistans may be more than one person rather than a single person. In the Futaba community, it is said that their Vistake, Visbou, Spirit and Anubis designs are the ones that represent the four Windows Vista versions; while in Nijura it has been represented by both a group of four Chiivistan of somewhat differing appearance and ages, or with four of their unnamed design of a white-haired young girl but wearing outfits with different colors to show for the DVD case and box. Within the OS-tan Collections community however, the designs preferences are more up to personal preference rather than a standard thought than anything else; while one may consider only the futaba standard, another may think of the Nijiura, or even a combination of the two, or simply make their own designs and “be done with it”.

Ghostzilla-tan appears as a lingerie-clad ''yūrei'' (Japanese ghost). She has wavy white hair and pale skin. Stitches, similar to the dotted lines displayed in place of pictures in the Ghostzilla application, appear around her neck, arms and legs. She wears a ''hitaikakushi'' (the triangular forehead covering), often seen in traditional depictions of Japanese ghosts. What little clothing Ghostzilla-tan wears is white or transparent and is often in tatters. She is often seen in the company of ''hitodama'' (floating balls of flame) which are also associated with Japanese ghosts.

“Vis-tan”, as this character is usually known by among the OS-tan community, is the character personification of Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System. However, unlike its previous predecessors globally accepted common design, Vis-tan is one to not to have a set design that everyone accepts. This has brought about an air of controversy around it as everyone simply seems to want their designs as the accepted one. However, it can be said that there are popular designs that are most often seen, such as the “Visbou” and “Vistake” designs that are mainly supported by a Japanese image board called [[Futaba]], while the [[+Nijiura +]] image board supports “Chiivis-tan”, one of its more popular designs.

==Personification of Vistan==
Vistan, as previously stated, has no standard appearance that is accepted by all people in the OS-tan community. Support to any design made is usually known to come from the local group of people of the site where the image originated from, as with the case of Futaba and +Nijiura+ where each site supports their versions and seem “disregard” the other’s. However, there are places where there is support for designs that originate from both image boards, but this is more of a subject of personal opinion of the people rather than common fact, as some may support one or another design.

===Futaba’s Popular Designs===
The community of the Futaba image board had presented multiple proposals to implement a standard design for the Windows Vista operating system. Something peculiar about the Futaba designs is that they seem to lack any real representation of the OS itself, except for the occasional logo inclusion that makes its way to some of the drawings. Many character design proposal have been made, and most were liked. However, only two of those designs have come to be the most popular and overall supported by the image board:

* One of these designs is nicknamed '''Visbou''', which is most often depicted as a young ninja girl. There have been instances where she had been drawn as an adult, but these are usually mature (ecchi or hentai) drawings, so the true essence of it being a version proposal may be questionable. She has grey colored hair, usually drawn short, not going much too further down than her neck. She has light-toned skin color. On her head she wears brown hairclips which seem to resemble screws. For an outfit, she wears a ninja suit of a navy color; the suit’s hakama has open sides that show part of her legs, though this seemingly goes by personal preference of the artists. A signature item she wears with the suit is a red-colored scarf; this one is usually quite long, reaching down to her knees if not depicted as long as to reach the girl’s feet.

*Another designs very popular designs was dubbed '''Vistake''', a girl that wears a sailor fuku. Like Visbou, she has grey hair; though opposed to the previously mentioned, this one has long hair that reaches down to her back if not longer. Her hair is usually kept in a ponytail that bears a grey colored (if not being an actual metal) screw-resembling hairclip. Another of these screw-like objects is found seemingly embedded on her forehead to (seemingly) match the hairclip. However, there have been instances where the design has been made to look like the “Xbox 360” logo, or at times simply not be drawn at all. She wears a red and white colored sailor fuku outfit, these two being the colors of most of the piece of clothing from the neck down. Of her clothes, the ascot, the shirt’s neck, the skirt and the shoes are colored in red, the rest in white. And exception to this seemingly common (and unwritten) rule may be her stockings, which are usually are striped red and white; though, this (style, stripe width and/or dominant color) may be differ from artist to artist. In terms age, this one seems to vary much more than the Visbou design; many images have depicted her with apparent ages from 12 years old and going all the way up to 21 or so.

===+Nijiura+’s Popular Designs===
The +Nijiura+ community (much like in Futaba) have presented and give support mainly, if not only, to their community’s proposed character designs to personify the Windows Vista operating system. A thing that has been seen in common in all of the designs is that the character proposal are highly representing of their character. They have many designs presented, but in the same way as Futaba, only two have been more popular than the rest:

*One of these is designs is known as '''Chiivistan''', a girl sporting a rather revealing suit. This fair skinned girl has green colored hair, said to be representing of the OS’ login screen and default background. Her hair is quite long, usually reaching down to the lower portion of the girl’s legs; a small portion of it is usually kept in a pair of pigtails while the rest sits there on the middle. A collar of a rather eccentric appearance floats or hangs around her neck; it has the Windows “shield” logo that is used to set apart all security features that the operating system has; underneath the shield logo the word “Vista” is written in green. She wears a sort of penguin coat or vest of a black color. This coat is the only thing that she wears to cover her top, and even then it is quite the revealing piece, letting view of the whole center portion of her body, or at least that’s how it is being portrayed (it does seem to have a zipper, or something that would merge that area together). It can be noted that the lower portion of the coat she wears bears transparency, this reflecting on the Aero transparency features that the OS has. Nothing more than pair of black panties cover lower portion of her body; however, it is to note that these are a matching part of the outfit. Black stockings cover up most of her legs, up to her thighs; this while she wears a pair of boots that are either colored white or black, with red borders. Within this design, there are two separate variations of Chiivistan in terms of apparent age; one is is that of a young girl, probably being in her early teens, while the other is a more matured girl bearing physical maturity comparable to [[XP-tan]].

* The other design hasn’t been named as of current knowledge, but it is quite popular among the +Nijiura+ community; this design being that of a young teenager girl. This one has short gray hair, comparable to Futaba Channel’s Visbou design. This girl wears a more simple (and much more conservative) outfit; a one-piece, sleeveless sailor fuku outfit to be exact. However, she does wear sleeves that cover everything from her wrists to her biceps. Like the “Chiivistan” design, this one has a pair of stockings that reach up to her thighs. When it comes to coloring, this may be the Vistan design with the most color variations of all, having all of the colors representing each of the Windows Vista DVD cases (the two shades of green, the blue, and black). There are even instances where the outfit’s fabric has been given transparency to reflect on the Aero features.

===Other Designs===
There have been other suggestions as to how should the Windows Vista operating system be really personified. Among these, there are other OS-tans designs from both Futaba and +Nijiura+ that, though were eventually set aside for their two main character, were thought of as promising candidates to be the “standard” Vistan design.

Many people, both from the Futaba and Nijiura communities as well as other OS-tan communities and solo fans, have suggested that Vistans may be more than one person rather than a single person. In the Futaba community, it is said that their Vistake, Visbou, Spirit and Anubis designs are the ones that represent the four Windows Vista versions; while in Nijura it has been represented by both a group of four Chiivistan of somewhat differing appearance and ages, or with four of their unnamed design of a white-haired young girl but wearing outfits with different colors to show for the DVD case and box. Within the OS-tan Collections community however, the designs preferences are more up to personal preference rather than a standard thought than anything else; while one may consider only the futaba standard, another may think of the Nijiura, or even a combination of the two, or simply make their own designs and “be done with it”.

Red Flag Linux is a Chinese Linux distro, based off of Red Hat Linux and Asianux and is the most popular distro in China. Red Flag-tan is represented as a proud and confident (but not arrogant) business lady with dark red eyes, black hair partly in a ponytail and wears a traditional red Chinese dress. She also carries a red flag and has her own lifestyle which she calls The Red Flag Way- reference to The Red Flag Way being Red Flag's modern management pattern.

Macintosh System 7.5-tan is fairly recently-established character, represented as a blue-eyed blonde-haired woman in a light blue dress, white top and taskbar-style armbands and bearing a strong resemblance to the Mac OS 9 and 9.2-tans but her personality greatly contrasts from theirs; 7.5-tan has a serious, disgruntled disposition and wields firearms.

She is fond of the young OSX-kun catboys but still willing to enforce punishment if necessary. In another of the first known comics pages featuring her, 3.1-tan is oblivious to 7.5-tan's disgruntled personality and even calls her Al-chan.

Apple-tans

The Apple-tans have been usually portraied in a family-centric setting where they all live under the same roof in a big villa-style house.

Even if the only information perceived is coming through two completely different artists and two mangas independent from each other there seems to be some kind of consistency between the two versions of the Mac Household.

It should be noted that these two works represent the only material available and therefore the nature of this information is purely speculative.

In both versions the House is inhabited by both [[OSX]] and [[OS9]] but there are some major differences between the two versions.
*In the original mac manga the house is decorated with futuristic and Apple-themed furniture such as big iTunes controls in the walls, Apple-shaped couches and a PowerMac which [[OS9]] uses while in the more recent ones the house is drawn as a regular japanese household but with somewhat of a western and a bit cartoonesque fashion when seen from outside.
*The only residents we get to see in the original manga are [[OSX]], [[OS9]] and another Mac-tan which could be either iPod or iTunes or just a older version of Mac OS, while the moder manga has the Apple household inhabitated by [[OSX]], [[OS9]], the OSX cats and -san (formerly Toshiaki-san).
*While in the original manga there are signs of (futuristic) technology such as the iTunes wall or simply the PowerMac the recent manga doesn't show any kind of technology in it other than the RAM banks the OSX cats insert into OS9 against her own will (which causes her breasts to expand) and [[OSX]] later steals for herself.

“Vis-tan”, as this character is usually known by among the OS-tan community, is the character personification of Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System. However, unlike its previous predecessors globally accepted common design, Vis-tan is one to not to have a set design that everyone accepts. This has brought about an air of controversy around it as everyone simply seems to want their designs as the accepted one. However, it can be said that there are popular designs that are most often seen, such as the “Visbou” and “Vistake” designs that are mainly supported by a Japanese image board called [[Futaba]], while the [[+Nijiura +]] image board supports “Chiivis-tan”, one of its more popular designs.

==Personification of Vistan==
Vistan, as previously stated, has no standard appearance that is accepted by all people in the OS-tan community. Support to any design made is usually known to come from the local group of people of the site where the image originated from, as with the case of Futaba and +Nijiura+ where each site supports their versions and seem “disregard” the other’s. However, there are places where there is support for designs that originate from both image boards, but this is more of a subject of personal opinion of the people rather than common fact, as some may support one or another design.

===Futaba’s Popular Designs===
The community of the Futaba image board had presented multiple proposals to implement a standard design for the Windows Vista operating system. Something peculiar about the Futaba designs is that they seem to lack any real representation of the OS itself, except for the occasional logo inclusion that makes its way to some of the drawings. Many character design proposal have been made, and most were liked. However, only two of those designs have come to be the most popular and overall supported by the image board:

* One of these designs is nicknamed '''Visbou''', which is most often depicted as a young ninja girl. There have been instances where she had been drawn as an adult, but these are usually mature (ecchi or hentai) drawings, so the true essence of it being a version proposal may be questionable. She has grey colored hair, usually drawn short, not going much too further down than her neck. She has light-toned skin color. On her head she wears brown hairclips which seem to resemble screws. For an outfit, she wears a ninja suit of a navy color; the suit’s hakama has open sides that show part of her legs, though this seemingly goes by personal preference of the artists. A signature item she wears with the suit is a red-colored scarf; this one is usually quite long, reaching down to her knees if not depicted as long as to reach the girl’s feet.

*Another designs very popular designs was dubbed '''Vistake''', a girl that wears a sailor fuku. Like Visbou, she has grey hair; though opposed to the previously mentioned, this one has long hair that reaches down to her back if not longer. Her hair is usually kept in a ponytail that bears a grey colored (if not being an actual metal) screw-resembling hairclip. Another of these screw-like objects is found seemingly embedded on her forehead to (seemingly) match the hairclip. However, there have been instances where the design has been made to look like the “Xbox 360” logo, or at times simply not be drawn at all. She wears a red and white colored sailor fuku outfit, these two being the colors of most of the piece of clothing from the neck down. Of her clothes, the ascot, the shirt’s neck, the skirt and the shoes are colored in red, the rest in white. And exception to this seemingly common (and unwritten) rule may be her stockings, which are usually are striped red and white; though, this (style, stripe width and/or dominant color) may be differ from artist to artist. In terms age, this one seems to vary much more than the Visbou design; many images have depicted her with apparent ages from 12 years old and going all the way up to 21 or so.

===+Nijiura+’s Popular Designs===
The +Nijiura+ community (much like in Futaba) have presented and give support mainly, if not only, to their community’s proposed character designs to personify the Windows Vista operating system. A thing that has been seen in common in all of the designs is that the character proposal are highly representing of their character. They have many designs presented, but in the same way as Futaba, only two have been more popular than the rest:

*One of these is designs is known as '''Chiivistan''', a girl sporting a rather revealing suit. This fair skinned girl has green colored hair, said to be representing of the OS’ login screen and default background. Her hair is quite long, usually reaching down to the lower portion of the girl’s legs; a small portion of it is usually kept in a pair of pigtails while the rest sits there on the middle. A collar of a rather eccentric appearance floats or hangs around her neck; it has the Windows “shield” logo that is used to set apart all security features that the operating system has; underneath the shield logo the word “Vista” is written in green. She wears a sort of penguin coat or vest of a black color. This coat is the only thing that she wears to cover her top, and even then it is quite the revealing piece, letting view of the whole center portion of her body, or at least that’s how it is being portrayed (it does seem to have a zipper, or something that would merge that area together). It can be noted that the lower portion of the coat she wears bears transparency, this reflecting on the Aero transparency features that the OS has. Nothing more than pair of black panties cover lower portion of her body; however, it is to note that these are a matching part of the outfit. Black stockings cover up most of her legs, up to her thighs; this while she wears a pair of boots that are either colored white or black, with red borders. Within this design, there are two separate variations of Chiivistan in terms of apparent age; one is is that of a young girl, probably being in her early teens, while the other is a more matured girl bearing physical maturity comparable to [[XP-tan]].

* The other design hasn’t been named as of current knowledge, but it is quite popular among the +Nijiura+ community; this design being that of a young teenager girl. This one has short gray hair, comparable to Futaba Channel’s Visbou design. This girl wears a more simple (and much more conservative) outfit; a one-piece, sleeveless sailor fuku outfit to be exact. However, she does wear sleeves that cover everything from her wrists to her biceps. Like the “Chiivistan” design, this one has a pair of stockings that reach up to her thighs. When it comes to coloring, this may be the Vistan design with the most color variations of all, having all of the colors representing each of the Windows Vista DVD cases (the two shades of green, the blue, and black). There are even instances where the outfit’s fabric has been given transparency to reflect on the Aero features.

While it's not clear whether initial OSX-tan designs specifically targeted the Jaguar release (the first to be marketed with the feline-inspired codename), the depicted design is at least the most recognized relative to the small Mac-tan fanbase.

The release of OSX Jaguar marks the start of the truly stable OSX platform, making it appropriate that OSX Jaguar-tan is the first among a subsequent lineage of self-confident catgirls ([[OSX Panther | Panther]], [[OSX Tiger | Tiger-tan]], etc.). Jaguar-tan is depicted as a mid-adolescent girl with bright red hair, blue eyes, and jaguar ears and tail. She wears a futuristic grey and beige dress and boots, as well as a black choker featuring the glass Apple logo. Personifying Apple's fourth major release of Mac OSX, Panther is easily recognized as being the only dark-skinned Mac-tan and in fact one of the few such OS-tans of color. This is due to the co-personification of the actual feline panther, hence the reason why nearly all proposed Panther-tan designs featured a dark-skinned character.

The depicted image is the most recognized of the OSX Panther-tan designs, in line with the other Nijiura.com OSX-tans by the same artists. Perhaps in part due to the greater refinement of the system, Panther-tan is depicted as an elegant and refined woman (in the same vein as [[OS9|Mac OS9-tan]]) with blue hair, orange eyes and black panther ears. She wears a blue, sleeveless, ballroom-style dress that drapes down to her feet and conceals her panther tail. In addition, she also wears gray opera length gloves and a red ascot tie adorned by a glass Apple logo.

Despite the age of the system, there are still not enough pictures available to piece together a personality. However, all available depictions of Panther-tan suggest a friendly, classy and strong-willed disposition.
