==Technical Details==
Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) is an operating system for x86 personal computers developed by Microsoft. It was essentially a rebranded 86-DOS, itself a copy of CP/M.

==Description==
===Main character design===
MS-DOS-tan is most commonly represented as a schoolgirl, with black or dark grey hair in pigtails decorated with "DOS"-shaped hair ties; her hair ties are usually blue, but are sometimes depicted in the colors of the MS-DOS prompt logo as shown in Windows. She wears round glasses, a white button-down blouse with a light blue skirt and suspenders. She carries around a PC keyboard.

She originally represented the DOS prompt (In early pictures, including the one in the infobox, her armband says "Prompt") and assumed to be a catch-all for all the DOS OSes, but now more specifically represents MS-DOS.

Personality-wise, MS-DOS-tan is generally depicted as rather shy and mousey, often posed peeking around corners. The implication is that, like MS-DOS itself on 9x Windows, she is always lurking somewhere in the background, just out of sight.

Another representation of MS-DOS is Windows 3.1-tan's cat, who can shapeshift into a catgirl in a nurse's outfit. It isn't known if she was an alternative MS-DOS character since the 'main' MS-DOS-tan is rarely drawn, but in most fanon, both characters co-exist.

==History and background==
In the backstories created at OSC, MS-DOS-tan is the twin sister of PC-DOS-tan; younger sister of [[QDOS | QDOS-tan]], and biological daughter of [[DR-DOS | DR-DOS-tan]].

In the 1980's, she happily grew up as part of the [[Microsoft-IBM Family]] and lived with [[PCDOS | PC-DOS-tan]], [[Windows 1.0 | Windows 1.0-tan]], [[Windows 2.0 | Windows 2.0-tan]], their stepsister [[OS2 | OS/2-tan]], and [[Xenix | Xenix-tan]] the family caretaker. MS-DOS-tan and PC-DOS-tan were especially close and had nearly identical personalities but the break-up of the Microsoft-IBM Family changed both of their personalities radically, and during the 1990s, they were only able to confront each other as rivals.

MS-DOS-tan lives with the present day [[Windows Family]] faction, but is a timid shadow of her former self, not just from the Microsoft-IBM Family break-up in 1990, but also from her diminishing popularity and influence.

Although a pacifist during the OS Wars, she avoided the fate that Windows 1.0 and 2.0 suffered due to passively complying with the Family's imperialist ambitions, and because she was still influential during that time. It was by the time that ME-tan was born that her influenced diminished radically (ME cannot boot DOS without a bootdisk, and is the last DOS-based Windows). She cares for all of her family, but can't seem to relate to them anymore except for 3.1 and 95 in the Windows Family; 1.0, 2.0 and PC-DOS in the Binteeji Renmei.

She and PC-DOS-tan have the habit of reuniting (in secrecy from the Windows-tans of the Windows Family, who do not know of PC-DOS-tan's existence) with each other every so often and when they do, both of their personalities change dramatically, to their cheerful former selves.

==Technical details==
OS/2 was released in 1987, the result of a joint venture between IBM and Microsoft. While the collaboration was initially harmonious, the popularity of Windows 3.0 (1990) and subsequent sidelining of OS/2 caused the two companies to go their separate ways. IBM continued to develop OS/2 throughout the 90s, while MS took many design cues from OS/2 in the development of Windows NT (and 95 to a lesser degree).

Ultimately, OS/2 was vastly outsold by Windows, and lost the last of its support from IBM at the end of 2006. However, it is still used in some mission-critical systems and has a devoted following.

OS/2-tan is represented as a mature woman with light skin, blue eyes typically rendered with catlike slit pupils, and rimless, rectangular glasses. She wears a purple Starfleet uniform<ref>More specifically the Starfleet uniform from ''Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country''. This is a reference to OS/2's extensive ''Star Trek'' themeing, IBM going as far as hiring actors from Star Trek to demonstrate OS/2 Warp.</ref>, C badge<ref>The C on her badge mathematically means greater than the speed of light and can be interpreted as warp speed.</ref>, blue skirt, sheer tights, black knee-boots and a belt with a stylized depiction of the 5-colored OS/2 logo. Her hair is medium blue with light blue or silver streaks. After the family breakup, she was trained by IBM to be a mean and efficient fighter. While their methods were effective, they were also mercilessly spartan and she was left sheltered even while the Windows-tans were quickly expanding their horizons. She took the loss of her family hard, but was still loyal to her company. She hoped that in defeating the Windows line, the victor could decide the rules; hence, she intended to fight to reunite her family.<ref>"OS/2-tan would take the loss of her family hard, but was still firmly loyal to her company. This loss, plus her company's growing indifference, isolation and watching the world fall in love with the Windows-tans drove her mad with vengeance. Even though OS/2-tan was effectively abandoned by her company in 2006, she has not given up her ambitions and will continue them into the foreseeable future.

==Technical Details==
Windows NT began development in 1989, with the intention on being the next evolution of IBM and Microsoft's OS/2; the team behind it lead by the creator of VMS. However, after the overnight success of Windows 3.0, Microsoft cut their ties with IBM and decided to shift focus toward making what was then known as "OS/2 3.0" into a business-oriented Windows version (Renamed "Windows NT"), while IBM continued to develop and support OS/2 on their own. While it took a while for it to catch on, NT eventually came to surpass OS/2; becoming very popular in business use for it's stability.

Although the name of Windows NT was retired after NT 4.0 was discontinued, it still lives on as the kernel powering every desktop version from Windows 2000 onward, with the exception of Windows ME.

==Character Details==
NT-tan is depicted as a woman with purple hair, and blue or purple eyes, and a ponytail held by a large blue bow. Her exact age, build and hair/eye color vary by artist. Most commonly her outfit is a simple pink dress, sometimes with a long-sleeved shirt under it, and an apron.

She is sometimes portrayed as the mother of the NT releases, as well as filling a motherly role for the Windows-tans generally. Frequently, she is depicted alongside [[Inu-T]].

Although she is usually depicted in domestic settings, a few artists' depictions portray NT-tan as a warrior. She is usually drawn with a western-style sword, contrasting her with the katana-wielding [[95-tan]].

==Other NT Designs==
====[[Inu-T]]====
There is a second popular NT personification known as "Inu-T". She is depicted as a young, blue haired dog-girl who wears a blue dress, and socks and gloves shaped like paws. Whether she was originally meant as an alternative design to the previously mentioned NT-tan is unknown, but now Inu-T is commonly recognized as representing Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (a later NT-based operating system preceding [[:Category:Windows 2000|Windows 2000]].

====Deja Vu's Design====
Yet another NT-tan, Windows NT SP6<ref>[http://dejavuartworks.com/os/characters.html Deja Vu's OS-tans]</ref>, was designed by the dōjinshi group [[Dispute between Futaba Society and Déjà vu|Deja Vu]], but it was considered a bootleg design by Futaba society and not a recognized OS-tan by them.

Outside of Deja Vu's doujins her design has not been used.

====History and Background====
Windows NT-tan's creation came about as a result of VMS developers from DEC hired to work with Microsoft to develop a next-generation OS, with VMS' power and OS/2's portability. She was born in 1989 when development on Windows NT started, cloned from VMS-tan's code, a sample brought over to the Microsoft labs without VMS-tan's knowledge or permission. She is not a complete clone of VMS-tan though, her code was also partly spliced together with OS/2-tan's.

She was born into the [[Microsoft-IBM Family]], but had only met MS-DOS-tan and the Windows-tans since she wasn't introduced to them until after the family's break-up. Early in life, she was trained to be a fighter, inheriting the training that was originally promised to OS/2-tan before her, and outside of her training, she spent the most time with Windows 3.1-tan until 95-tan was born.

When 95-tan was born, she and NT-tan trained and sparred together. They hardly ever met Windows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan, who were deliberately kept away from them by the family's higher-ups.

Her 1993 debut was successful. While she wasn't yet at her strongest, and not strong enough to defeat any of the Unix-tans in combat, she was able to exploit the weaknesses of their war-torn faction. Their territory was overran by her forces, and from defeating the Unix-tans, she secured a large part of the server market.

She further took over the market when she also conquered the DEC faction and defeated VMS-tan in a duel; she didn't know that VMS-tan was her mother, nor ever met her, so she didn't hold back in battle. The DEC Faction declined over the next few years, losing territory to her forces before collapse.

[[VMS|VMS-tan]] is NT-tan's biological mother, whom NT-tan is a modified clone of, but is unaware of their relationship; it was never told to her when she was first introduced to the Windows Family. NT-tan fought against her for control over the server market as her first mission, and won.

[[OS/2|OS/2-tan]] is NT's half-sister, although OS/2 and VMS aren't related, NT-tan was partly created from OS/2-tan's genes. Since OS/2-tan violently hates the Windows-tans, it's assumed that they have fought on several occasions before and during the OS Wars.

=====[[Windows Family]]=====
She is one of the matriarchs of the [[Windows Family]], the other being [[95-tan]], who has no children, but fills a similar motherly role. As the main matriarch, she is the primary ambassador to the family during meetings with other factions. She is also portrayed as [[ME-tan]]'s adoptive mother, raising her together with a young 2K-tan and [[:Category:Windows XP|XP twins]], as they are close to the same age.

3.1-tan and 95-tan are commonly seen together with her, bonded by their roles in the family, and also their early life experiences.

In OSC fanon, she and 95-tan hardly ever met 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan, and didn't notice when they were exiled.

NT-tan gets along well with OSX Rhapsody-tan, the ambassador of the Mac House. Their friendship is an important key in keeping the family meetings diplomatic.

Xenix was a version of Unix developed by Microsoft in the 1980's. Xenix was predominantly based off of AT&T's Version 7 Unix but also incorporated elements from BSD (unlike other Version 7 Unix derivatives) and originally ran on the DEC PDP-11, but was later ported to the x86 architecture, a line of Tandy computers, and the Apple Lisa. Xenix was later acquired by the SCO Group and continued development as SCO Unix.

Xenix-tan is of average height, and has shoulder-length aquamarine hair that has side-bangs that frame her face. Her eyes are green in the middle with amber rims, and she usually has a stern expression. She wears a maid's bonnet with a dark green dress (color of the Xenix floppy disk sleeves) under a black and white blouse with a white X-shaped bow on the back.

===Personality===
Serving as the guardian of the [[Microsoft-IBM Family]] of the 1980's, and taking her job very seriously, she was extremely loyal and caring to the other OS-tans she looked after. Her friendship with Altair-tan, and looking after the Microsoft-IBM OS-tans brought out a compassionate side of her personality, but it did not extend to other people. Aside from them, she is otherwise notoriously strict, uncompromising,and extremely inflexible when it came to rules. She was also not the type to take a joke. In particular, she did not tolerate anything being a minute late, or even early, demanding everything be done right on time, or else. She did not get along with very many people, and few missed her after her forced retirement and [[Deceased OS-tans | death]]. She is survived by her daughter, [[SCO Unix | SCO Unix-tan]].

She was hated by the Unix Family. Her loyalty to the Microsoft-IBM Family (later Microsoft Family) was uncompromising, even when the Microsoft Family started encroaching onto Unix territory.

She was a mediocre sorceress among a lineage of remarkable sorcerers, but excelled at melee combat; her weapon being a slender but powerful fiber wire which was primarily used for sneaky assassinations towards threatening program-tans.

Quickly after her 1980 debut, Xenix-tan became friends with [[MITS Altair 8800 | MITS Altair 8800-tan]] and wrote a biography about her. They briefly raised [[QDOS|QDOS-tan]] together, but after Altair's forced exile by company higher-ups, she was not allowed to speak of Altair-tan to the family.

Xenix-tan was first hired to be a servant and bodyguard for the soon-to-be Microsoft-IBM Family, but quickly demonstrated leadership qualities. She quickly rose up in the ranks of old Microsoft, and was trusted with political power within the faction. Over time though, her approval rating among everyone else, except for her OS-tan wards, plummeted. She just could not get along with other people in her ranks, and was ousted from the faction shortly after [[Windows 3.1 | Windows 3.1-tan]] (then Windows 3.0-tan) was born, circa 1989-90.

She didn't get the chance to see the family she cared for grow in influence, nor did she have much time to look after her biological daughter, SCO Unix-tan when she was born around that time. When she was affiliated with the Microsoft-IBM Family, her duties exempted her from the [[Timeline of The Unix Wars|Unix Wars]], but ended up drafted shortly after she was ousted. Nearly all the other Unixes quickly grew to hate her, because she refused to give up her loyalty to the Microsoft faction, which became a major enemy to the Unices. She couldn't form any alliances and was condemned as a traitor. OS-tan deaths in war are very few, but rival Unix factions agreed on arranging to send her to the front lines without proper support, where she was stripped of her status to die as a commoner.

Her daughter didn't get to help her fight in the war. She could only helplessly watch as Xenix-tan died on the battlefield as a commoner who didn't get a proper funeral.

When she died exactly isn't specified. Originally, she was thought to have died circa 1993, when [[Windows NT|Windows NT-tan]] was being prepared to conquer the server market from the Unices at that time. Another estimate is that she died c. 1990 or 1991.

VMS-tan had a fraught relationship with her DEC peers. She was closest with her mother [[RSX | RSX-tan]], VAX, as well as [[RSTS | RSTS-tan]] and the eternally-affectionate [[PDP-1 | PDP-1-tan]]. She has a younger sister, [[VAXELN | VAXELN-tan]], but they are separated by social circles and distance.

While antagonistic toward the Unices, she and [[UNIX | UNIX-tan]] view one another as worthy enemies. She and [[Ultrix]]-tan started off as enemies, but found common ground as outcasts within their faction.

As leader of the CIOST, VMS-tan guides a large and varied following of OS-tans. She gets along best with [[VME]], [[Primos]] and [[Stratus_VOS | VOS]]-tan, although they are more akin to comrades-in-arms than friends in the traditional sense of the word. Her old rival [[TOPS-20 | TOPS-20-tan]] is also part of the faction.

VMS-tan has a few close friends. She and VAX-tan have a strong bond, despite drifting apart in recent years. [[eCOS | eCOS-tan]] is her companion and self-proclaimed bodyguard. She was adopted by two children/followers, [[FreeVMS | FreeVMS-chan]] and OZONE-tan, although she is clueless about raising kids and leaves the majority of the work to RED-kun, her loyal text editor.

OpenVMS-tan debuted 1977, under the name VMS. Born to RSX-11 during the golden era of the DEC society, she was a reserved and responsible with a dry sense of humour – and a habit of snarking. Trained extensively in swordfighting (by her mother) and the art of geomancy (by [[Multics | Multics]]), she was inducted into the DEC military that year as a colonel. By 1988, she was a major general.

Her meteoric rise through the ranks ruffled the feathers of several of her coworkers and endangered the livelihoods of a few others, notably [[TOPS-20 | Tenex]]; outside of DEC, her popularity led to [[ITS | ITS]]'s eventual deposal from MIT. While she viewed these “betrayals” as strictly a matter of business and something not in her own control, her rivals weren't as understanding; although recently she has made good with her old coworkers.

During the early 1980s VMS and unix became locked in fierce rivalry, one that continues to this day through [[BSD | BSD]] and her children. Unlike many rivals, VMS and Unix don't hate each other; their relationship is marked by good-natured, if not somewhat antagonistic, jousting.

Her name was changed to OpenVMS is 1992, but she continued to use her old moniker out of convenience. The first major trauma in her life occurred in 1993 when [[NT-tan | Windows NT]] was born and VMS subsequently discovered that she was, in part, a genetic copy of herself. The cloning was purported by VMS' creator who, after leaving DEC, was hired by the rising Microsoft empire to create their next generation of OS-tan – one capable of seizing the then-elusive server and minicomputer market. Taking advantage of the disarray of the Unix and OS Wars, NT was able to conquer already divided nations and secure the Windows empire in the professional market.

One of NT's targets was the already-weakened DEC empire; she faced off against VMS in a duel, completely unaware that her opponent was her mother. VMS, holding back for fear of injuring her daughter, was defeated; this experience made her rethink her life and pushed her toward her current-day mentality.

===Post-DEC years===
In 1998 the tattered DEC society was conquered by HP, and its -tans scattered to all corners of the earth. VMS, too powerful to be let go of, was kept on; she was one of only two ex-DEC officers not deposed of. Their stepsister is [[HP-UX]], whom VMS doesn't get along with.

Feeling no allegiance to her new company, VMS set to wandering the world, gathering disparate OS-tans of all cultures and races together to fight the mainstream powers. This was the beginning of the [[CIOST | Confederation of independent OS-tans]], an underground group of technologically-advanced, but largely unknown OS-tans.

VMS's mother is RSX, has one sister, VAXELN, and two adopted children – OZONE and FreeVMS. She occasionally meets with her old DEC comrades, but lives on her own for the most part.

GNU/Linux is the name given to a family of open source Unix-like operating systems. One of the most famous and successful implementations of open source software, Linux distributions can be found in every sector of the computer industry and on every modern architecture– from the largest mainframes to the fastest supercomputers to PCs and cell phones.

Created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds, the original Linux kernel source was posted to a usenet group, where people the world over began modifying and improving its construction. Soon thereafter the kernel was coupled with the GNU Project's collection of libraries and utilities, making a viable operating system – by 1992, the first Linux distros appeared. Since then GNU/Linux has continually evolved, with various distros created and funded by corporations, institutions, communities and individuals.

While Linux-tan is a relatively uncommon character in the OS-tan lineup, several Linux-tan personifications exist.

====Futaba====

Another, humanoid design originating on Futaba is a young girl with light skin, long hair, a sleeveless blue dress with gold accents, and flipper-shaped shoes. A variation of C-Chan's design utilized by BellaCielo in her comic (and later adopted by C-Chan) depicts Linux-tan with side-swept bangs, KDE logo earrings, a navy blue military-style jacket, similarly-colored knee-high boots, white short-shorts or a white miniskirt and tights, and a teal ''Compiz-Fusion'' cape. Linux-tan is depicted as having the intelligence and pragmatism of a Unix combined with the optimism and idealism of an Open Source disciple. She values openness above all else, and while friends find her blunt honesty refreshing, detractors accuse her of being tactless. In spite of her brusque nature, she is sincerely devoted to helping others. She is particularly vested in the plight of older and abandoned computer-tans as well as her Open Source ''brethren'' and is quick to speak out against injustices.

Like the majority of Open Source OS-tans, Linux is extroverted and values community, and although she is lacking somewhat in social grace still commands the attention and admiration of others. Although she can best be described as intelligent beyond her years, Linux-tan's psychological age is roughly equivalent to her physical one and she maintains a sense of youthful enthusiasm. Although she has historically been oriented more toward work than play, in recent years she has cultivated a better capacity for fun.

In spite of her generally good nature and inclination toward helping "the common man", historically Linux-tan has found more popularity amongst business, scientific and other high-end types than home and personal computers and users - a phenomena likely caused by her reputation for being cryptic and verbose to those not versed in the ways of Unix-kind. In recent years she has befriended more non-technical types than ever before, broadening her horizons.

Although she is trained in a number of fighting techniques, Linux-tan is non-violent overall – believing her ideals to be a far more powerful weapon against adversaries than any spell or spear. On the occasions that she must fight, she chooses to do so fairly and honorably.

She was born without any innate magical abilities, but her tutor [[Minix]]-sensei taught her rudimentary healing spells during her childhood, an ability she honed throughout her youth. During her training under the ''GNU Project'', she acquired a considerably broader range of sorcery - including specialized and general-purpose sorcery as well as self-defense magic. A true ''Open Soucerer'', she has developed many spells of her own and shares them freely with her followers and any curious parties.

While she possesses knowledge of a number of defensive sorcery techniques, she prefers hand-to-hand combat - believing her sorcery is better put to use in constructive rather than destructive pursuits. In recent years she has deployed specialized magical armor - generally depicted as a sort of horned halo, this armor takes the place of her old helmet.

Born in Finland in 1991, Linux turned over to [[Minix | Minix-sensei]] for further schooling. As per “father's” orders, in 1992 she was set out into the world so that she might find her own path in life.

Linux consciously avoided the destruction of the Unix Wars, allowing her to develop free of its negative influences. Born powerless, a chance encounter with [[ITS | ITS]] inspired her to approach the GNU society – practitioners of an advanced form of “open sourcery” who sought an OS-tan to wield the power they has created. At their headquarters in Boston she learnt the secrets of their sorcery and most of her strategic skills.

Like Unix-tan before her, Linux-tan's source code was shared freely allowing for the generation of a number of offspring without any involvement on her part. Her powers, growing family and band of followers, and political alliances made Linux stronger than ever - as well as a prime target for the Unix-tans, who were terrified that her rising popularity would further destabilize their already crumbling society. In an attempt to pacify those calling for Linux's capture, [[UNIX | Unix]] ordered some of her daughters to find and deliver Linux to her, orders which they begrudgingly carried out. Linux initially feared that Unix meant to assassinate her, but it soon became clear that Unix meant no harm.

Their discussion turned to matters of family and conflict, during which Unix revealed her fear that Linux would destroy the old Unix hierarchy and replace it with her own, much as Unix herself had done to the generation proceeding her own. Linux was smart enough to draw a parallel between Unix's life story and her own rise to power. Not wanting to encounter a similar fate, Linux agreed to Unix's suggestion that they work together instead of fighting.

While Linux and Unix cultures have been largely integrated, their treatment of each other is uneasy at best and Linux remains a point of suspicion – especially with the looming possibility that she could inherit the Unix throne.

'''Windows 3.1-tan''' (3.1たん) was one of the less common Windows personifications but is now part of the OS-tan canon. The first appearances of Windows 3.1 have used a white mech-box similar to that used by 98 and 98SE, piloted by a girl who appears to be DOS/V.

The portrayal that became part of the [[ List_of_Canon_OS-tans | OS-tan canon]] is that of a frail grey-haired young girl in a long frilly violet gown, with a 3.1 brooch on her collar. She has a quiet personality and is usually accompanied by either a black cat (sometimes nicknamed DOS Kitty) or a small black-haired catgirl in a nurse's outfit, both representing DOS 6.22. In OSC-based continuity, 3.1-tan was very close to [[Windows 1.0 | 1.0-tan]] and 2.0-tan in childhood, but currently only has a patchy memory of them. A possible interpretation was that part of her memory was wiped after 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan were exiled. Or if she remembers them, she knows she cannot speak of them to the rest of her family, who don't know or remember them.

3.1-tan knows of [[Windows 3.2|3.2-tan]], who was created as her Chinese-speaking counterpart for a now-defunct cadet branch of the family. They actually aren't twin sisters, though they're thought to be by those who have seen them together; 3.1-tan also represents the original Windows 3.0 (released in 1990), while 3.2 was released at the same time as 3.1.

Whether or not she took an active role in the OS Wars, leading or supporting the forces that seized much of the Macs' territory, she is assumed to be largely indifferent towards them, and the family meetings between the Windows and Mac families. She did have rivalries with System 6-tan and System 7-tan, but these rivalries were still fairly civil, far from the tactics of the OS Wars a few years later.

====Biography====
She was born into the Microsoft-IBM Family as Windows 3.0-tan. In her early life, she was very cheerful, energetic, and close to her family. She was the closest to 2.0-tan, and they spent a lot of time playing together. However, she didn't get to know PC-DOS-tan and OS/2-tan for very long; her debut being much more successful than her predecessors' and OS/2-tan's led to the Microsoft-IBM Family breaking up. Microsoft took custody of her, 2.0-tan, 1.0-tan and MS-DOS-tan; her success would be used as the foundation of the Windows Empire.

The other members of the old MS-IBM Family were devastated from the break-up except for her; she was so young she didn't fully understand what was happening, and ultimately, her memories of the old family would become patchy. She would see PC-DOS-tan and OS/2-tan again, but they had to see each other as rivals. 3.1-tan won most of the battles against them, not holding back since she had all but forgotten her early memories of them.

She was eager to be a big sister figure to NT-tan and 95-tan when they were born, and they took after her before being trained warriors; this references NT 3.1's and the Windows 95 beta's UI being modeled after Windows 3.1's. She was very close to both of them at first, but having to being separated from them while they train more and more caused her cheerfulness to wane. She also started to feel distant when she realized they were receiving much more advanced training than she did, and feared losing her influence, so she started to spend more time with MS-DOS, 1.0 and 2.0 again, but would also support the Windows Empire during the OS Wars.

It isn't specified at what point 3.1-tan fought, but one of the events that affected her the most severely was when 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan got exiled during the wars. It was at this point that 3.1-tan became quiet and withdrawn, but continued to fight.

She would care for the new generations of Windows-tans born after the wars, but remained distant to them, struggling to relate to these younger and carefree relatives; those who would never have to experience the feeling of loss and regret she did during the wars. However, if those more recently-made depictions of a cheerful 3.1-tan are to be taken as fanon, maybe time has healed those feelings, and she is willing to be closer to her family again.

====Alternate Character Interpretation====
Her more cheerful depictions may be this, as are her roles in NT's and 95's early lives, and her role if any in the OS Wars. She may be portrayed as a character with a history stuck between two eras, first taking part in the chivalrous showdowns with the early Mac-tans and home computer-tans in the early 90's, then having to take part in the unprecedented scorched-earth tactics against those same rivals during the OS Wars. This would suggest that if she fought in the OS Wars, either she did so reluctantly but wanting to be supportive of her family (while avoiding the fate of the conscientious objector Windows 2.0-tan), or she eagerly took part, once again in support for her family, but regretted it later because of the extreme measures taken.

Her cool exterior hides a strong sense of justice and duty to keep others safe. She's never effusive with affection, but warms up around friends.

She loves the ocean, swimming and diving especially. Befitting an OS-tan of her might, VMS-tan has been depicted with power over water. However, she eschews sorcery for the most part, instead favoring physical weaponry. As with many of her DEC-tan peers, she is a trained swordsman, especially favoring sabers in her earlier years.

VMS-tan had a fraught relationship with her DEC peers. She was closest with her mother [[RSX | RSX-tan]], VAX, as well as [[RSTS | RSTS-tan]] and the eternally-affectionate [[PDP-1 | PDP-1-tan]]. She has a younger sister, [[VAXELN | VAXELN-tan]], but they are separated by social circles and distance.

While antagonistic toward the Unices, she and [[UNIX | UNIX-tan]] view one another as worthy enemies. She and [[Ultrix]]-tan started off as enemies, but found common ground as outcasts within their faction.

As leader of the CIOST, VMS-tan guides a large and varied following of OS-tans. She gets along best with [[VME]], [[Primos]] and [[Stratus_VOS | VOS]]-tan, although they are more akin to comrades-in-arms than friends in the traditional sense of the word. Her old rival [[TOPS-20 | TOPS-20-tan]] is also part of the faction.

VMS-tan has a few close friends. She and VAX-tan have a strong bond, despite drifting apart in recent years. [[eCOS | eCOS-tan]] is her companion and self-proclaimed bodyguard. She was adopted by two children/followers, [[FreeVMS | FreeVMS-chan]] and OZONE-tan, although she is clueless about raising kids and leaves the majority of the work to RED-kun, her loyal text editor.

OpenVMS-tan debuted 1977, under the name VMS. Born to RSX-11 during the golden era of the DEC society, she was a reserved and responsible with a dry sense of humour – and a habit of snarking. Trained extensively in swordfighting (by her mother) and the art of geomancy (by [[Multics | Multics]]), she was inducted into the DEC military that year as a colonel. By 1988, she was a major general.

Her meteoric rise through the ranks ruffled the feathers of several of her coworkers and endangered the livelihoods of a few others, notably [[TOPS-20 | Tenex]]; outside of DEC, her popularity led to [[ITS | ITS]]'s eventual deposal from MIT. While she viewed these “betrayals” as strictly a matter of business and something not in her own control, her rivals weren't as understanding; although recently she has made good with her old coworkers.

During the early 1980s VMS and unix became locked in fierce rivalry, one that continues to this day through [[BSD | BSD]] and her children. Unlike many rivals, VMS and Unix don't hate each other; their relationship is marked by good-natured, if not somewhat antagonistic, jousting.

Her name was changed to OpenVMS is 1992, but she continued to use her old moniker out of convenience. The first major trauma in her life occurred in 1993 when [[NT-tan | Windows NT]] was born and VMS subsequently discovered that she was, in part, a genetic copy of herself. The cloning was purported by VMS' creator who, after leaving DEC, was hired by the rising Microsoft empire to create their next generation of OS-tan – one capable of seizing the then-elusive server and minicomputer market. Taking advantage of the disarray of the Unix and OS Wars, NT was able to conquer already divided nations and secure the Windows empire in the professional market.

One of NT's targets was the already-weakened DEC empire; she faced off against VMS in a duel, completely unaware that her opponent was her mother. VMS, holding back for fear of injuring her daughter, was defeated; this experience made her rethink her life and pushed her toward her current-day mentality.

===Post-DEC years===
In 1998 the tattered DEC society was conquered by HP, and its -tans scattered to all corners of the earth. VMS, too powerful to be let go of, was kept on; she was one of only two ex-DEC officers not deposed of. Their stepsister is [[HP-UX]], whom VMS doesn't get along with.

Feeling no allegiance to her new company, VMS set to wandering the world, gathering disparate OS-tans of all cultures and races together to fight the mainstream powers. This was the beginning of the [[CIOST | Confederation of independent OS-tans]], an underground group of technologically-advanced, but largely unknown OS-tans.

VMS's mother is RSX, has one sister, VAXELN, and two adopted children – OZONE and FreeVMS. She occasionally meets with her old DEC comrades, but lives on her own for the most part.

Built over a period of 6 years (1945 - 1951), the IAS Machine was an early electronic computer and the originator of the widely-implemented Von Neumann Architecture.

Physically, IAS Machine-tan is slightly overweight, silver-haired and golden-eyed. She's described as imposing despite being average in height, and having a fondness for conservative business-wear.

A prolific scientist and mathematician, IAS worked on a variety of scientific projects - including ones involving nuclear and hydrogen bombs - and managed to be largely successful despite having no sense of internal timekeeping and trouble keeping up with her assignments. A confident and jovial woman, she's known to have a great love of food and drink, notoriously dirty sense of humor (manifested through a fondness for telling bawdy limericks and jokes) and enjoyment of playing games and practical jokes - a favorite of hers being mimicking "regular" human beings in her daily life. In spite of such fanciful pursuits, she remains rather politically-conservative and "straight-laced" compared to her peers and children.

A series of experimental operations were performed in an attempt to improved her lifespan, speed and powers, but they were untimely unsuccessful, costing her numerous body parts as well as general mental and physical stability. Especially problematic were the coma-like states she fell in and out of for the next fourteen years.

Despite the dire consequences to her health, there were several beneficial effects. Foremost among these, the creation of her second and third children, [[TX-0]] and [[PDP-1]]-tan, whose births would have never been possible without the knowledge gained during Whirlwind's experimental surgeries. In many ways, her two children filled the nest left empty by SAGE's departure, and became a comfort and companion to the ailing Whirlwind.

CTSS-tan was born in 1961, but the details of her creation and relationship with Whirlwind-tan are yet-unknown. It has been suggested that CTSS-tan may be an adopted child, rather than a blood-descendant.

Unusually for the era, Whirlwind-tan's relationship with her daughters was not only close but mutually-affectionate despite intervening factors - distance, in the case of SAGE-tan, and worsening health with TX-0, PDP-1 and CTSS.

'''95-kun''' is a middle-aged man commonly seen in a pink men's yukata, geta or zori, and his hair held up in a samurai-style ponytail by a small set of Windows-coloured ribbons. Prominantly featured on the front of his yukata is the Windows logo, cocked to the side as the family symbol. He has brown hair and eyes, normally with some form of sideburns, stubble, or both. Being a samurai, he has a stoic, gruff, yet laid-back personality, enjoying some of the things that samurai in the Edo Period might have enjoyed: cherry-blossom viewing, drinking sake, eating grilled food, like ika (squid) and unagi (freshwater eel), and possibly poetry. His laid-back attitude can sometimes frustrate his sister, as he lacks the same fiery hatred of the macs that she does. Also frustrating to her is his laid back party attitude, sometimes resuting in people getting drunk (which [[95-tan]] sometimes has to clean up the mess after). Despite this, he gets along well with most people, providing a father or uncle figure to some, peacekeeper to others. He seems to remember and reflect on the past, though if he has the same nostalgia for it as his sister remains unknown. He keeps the company of other characters his own age, such as his sister 95, [[2k-tan]], and occasionally [[Nijiura and Futaba Characters#Akachouchin and Daiginjou|Daiginjou]]. More often, however, he is seen keeping the company of [[Nijiura and Futaba Characters#Akachouchin and Daiginjou|Akachouchin]], a young Futaba girl who shares his passion for sake. Given her prowess in making it, it's only natural that they'd keep company.

One of the more popular OS-tans, '''95-tan''' is depicted as a traditional lady from the early modern era of Japan. This is much due to her status as an older version of modern Windows. She is a gentle-looking brown haired woman in a kimono, with a hair ribbon showing the four Windows colors. The pattern of her kimono is based on the file hana256.bmp, which was used as a desktop wallpaper pattern in the Japanese version of Windows. Her costume is a traditional kimono and a hakama of Japan, and she wears thick sandals, geta on her feet. These are women's college student's typical clothes as seen in the earliest period during the course of the modernization in Japan (from the Meiji period to the Taisho period), and the cultural background for the comparison of the modernization of Windows to modernization of Japan is seen there.

95-tan's most common activities are drinking tea, serving meals or doing other housework. One recurring theme is her unfamiliarity with newer, post Win-95 technologies, such as USB devices and broadband internet connections. While appearing to be one of the more stable OS-tans, she is also often depicted wielding a katana in an aggressive manner, usually toward the [[MacOS|Mac-tans]], but also when disciplining troublemakers within her own family. This symbolizes the fact that it was her generation of operating systems that Microsoft finally achieved full dominance of the personal computer market. Both designs are sometimes refereed to as "Chiivistan" this may be the result of a Japanese to English translation error of their actual name, but it is hard to know for sure.

Both designs are depicted as a magical girl-type character in a dress-suit combo. They are fair skinned with green colored hair, said to be representing of the OS’ login screen and default background.

Her hair is very long, usually reaching down to the lower portion of the their legs; a small portion of it is usually kept in a pair of pigtails while the rest sits there on the middle. The hair ties for these pigtails have a white to aqua gradient that stick out to the side and back.

A collar of eccentric appearance floats or hangs around their neck; it has the Windows “shield” logo that is used to set apart all security features that the operating system has; underneath the shield logo the word “Vista” is written in green.

They wear a sort of black sleeveless penguin coat/vest that appears to be the only thing covering their chests. It can be noted that the lower portions of the coat is partially transparent, this reflecting on the Aero transparency features that the OS has. This coat also matches short, puffy detached sleeves on their upper arms with a similar transparent effect.

Black stockings cover most of their legs, up to the thighs.

Atari DOS-tan represents the Operating System for the line of Atari 8-bit home computers. She has yellow eyes and blonde hair, braided in the back in the shape of the Atari logo, the braids ending in three small pigtails. She is a magician and her uniform contains many elements of the system embedded in it. Her magic wand is actually an Atari Remote Controller (from the video game line, but still compatible with the home computers) with an elongated receiver.

Being a magician reflects on Atari's marketing smoke mirrors to make their technically-inferior 8-bit computers competitive and more appealing. Her appearance as a magician is actually more impressive than her skills, but she is a very kind-hearted, fun-loving and innocent girl who is also very resourceful and able to do magic tricks using anything lying around. If not for her old-fashioned mannerisms and very antiquated prop comedy, she acts her appearance rather than her actual age.

In her family, she has several cousins who represent the Atari game consoles. However, she did not see them very often nor do they get along with her very well because of the similarities and partial interoperability between the 8-bit Atari computers and their game consoles and it seemed that she was interfering too much in their market. She also has a younger stepsister: [[Atari TOS |Atari TOS-tan]]. And despite their differences and Atari TOS-tan's counterproductive antics, Atari DOS-tan loves Atari TOS-tan like a real sister would.

This character represents the first edition of [[wikipedia:Windows 98| Windows 98]]. Two early designs that continue to be used alongside the 98 an 98SE-tans are a pair of stick-limbed snack-boxes with a face and version number drawn in crayon, based on the Vulcan 300 toy that appeared in the anime series Konjiki no Gash Bell!!/Zatch Bell!.

This is a holdover from the very early days before the designs of the primary OS-tans had settled. Generic stick-limbed boxes were often used as placeholders; there had been instances of small DOS and Windows 3.11 boxes before other designs gained popularity.

Both girls now make regular use of these as mechanical suits. The mech-box used by 98 is blue in colour, and likewise the 98SE mech-box has a green theme. The mechs are sometimes shown as guardians or friends to the 98-tans, otherwise the two girls can be seated inside them as pilots. The box sizes can vary, ranging from doll-like when carried by the girls to taller than an adult when they ride inside them. While usually used as toys or weapons, they can serve other purposes, such as a clubhouse, a shelter, or a place to hide. (The boxes also appear to be less stable than the girls themselves; When a non-DOS based OS-tan enters the box, it has a tendency to fall apart.)

Saba-tan is constantly being eaten by cats (As another gag of the fact that she's a fish), also in one episode, Windows 95 is seen cooking Saba-tan for lunch, she has been gutted, stunned, and placed on a cutting board as 95 is seen with a sharp knife, preparing to chop Saba-tan up and cook her for ME and 2K to eat. It is still unknown how she escaped that situation since she was unconscious while 95 held the knife up ready to chop her up.

Also in the picture of all the OS-tans, she is seen becoming a cats lunch, however she returns in a later comic, indicating that she somehow escaped being eaten for lunch, or the fact that there are many Saba OS-tans in the OS-tan universe.

ME was intended as the successor to [[:Category:Windows 98|Windows 98]], aimed at Home Users. It was the last of the DOS lineage and featured newer software, including the new addition, Windows Movie Maker. Despite the best intentions with ME, it was largely outshined by its predecessor, [[Windows 2000]], due to a large amount of bugs and glitches, causing instability and frequent crashes, as well as sharing several features with 2000 anyway. ==Technical details==
Windows 95 can trace its roots back to March 1992, right after the release of Windows 3.1. Microsoft was stil developing Windows for Workgroups 3.1 and Windows NT 3.1, with their future sights set on the Cairo Operating System. However, Cairo was not expected to release for another two years, and in the meantime Microsoft realized that in order to keep competing, they needed an OS that could handle 32-bit capabiities and preemptive multitasking while still running on low-end hardware (Windows NT could not). Thus, the 'Chicago' project was born, being expected for a late 93' release, becoming known as Windows 93. Windows 93 would eventually ship with MSDOS 7.0, offering a more intergrated experience, but the Chicago Project continued on. Released at the same time was 'Cougar', a 32-bit shell for MSDOS; Cougar would go on to become the kernel of Chicago.

95 was released to great approval, quickly dominating the computer market. Part of this reason was the campaign to promote it by Microsoft; A commercial featuring the Rolling Stones' song ''"Start Me Up"'' and a 30-minute promo video (a 'Cyber Sitcom' as it was called) featuring Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry were just part of the advertising. In addition, several new features made 95 much easier to use for those new to computers, such as the Taskbar, Start Button and Menu, Longer Filenames, and Multitasking. 95 was also the first Microsoft OS to be a standalone, more than merely a graphical shell for DOS. Despite this, the 32-bit kernel, and the incompatibility of 95 with 16-bit processors, a good amount of code left over (mainly for the user interface) was still 16-bit.

95 was normally offered on a CD-ROM, though the inital release was also offered on 13 3.5" floppy disks, suitable for older machines(though with added features removed). The later releases doubled this to 26 disks, and Plus! was also adapted for floppies. Though uncommon, a 5.25" floppy disk set for installation could be special-ordered.

By the time of its obselence in 2001, 95 had become an industry standard, with many of the features introduced in 95 still being used today. 95 could be upgraded to 98, ME or even 2000, though many users still rely on 95 for legacy functions due to its closeness with DOS while still being reliable and easy to use.

Windows 7 is an operating system first released on July 22nd, 2009, and to the general public on October 22nd, 2009. It built off of many of the same features introduced in [[:Category:Windows Vista|Vista]], upgrading them and improving them to be more stable. Windows 7 also introduced multi-touch support, an updated shell, and the HomeGroup networking system. Windows 7, unlike XP and Vista, did not feature many Microsoft programs (such as Movie Maker and Photo Gallery) standard, but instead as part of a free download named Windows Essentials.

==Other Versions==
Though [[Nanami Madobe]] is the generally accepted representation of Windows 7, there are other 7-tans out there, mostly made by the Futaba community. Similar to Vista's release, there seemed to be a bit of a boss-rush of -tans competing for canonism.

Although most often seen as a silhouette, [http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pid=7417 Vienna-tan] is depicted as almost an older-looking version of [[Inu-T]], with more mechanical-looking ears and longer hair and tail. She was named for 7's codename, Vienna, and was used as a placeholder while the community waited for the OS's release.

With the flood of -tans with 7's release, a couple non-canon and semi-canon loli-type mascots were released. The Futaba Loli has silver hair and red glasses, and wears some sort of grey headpiece. she wears a frilly skirt and a tube top, and is commonly depicted with a mouse pointer squeezing her in some way. The other loli of mention is around the same age region as Futaba's, with white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She wears a dress made out of the new Windows logo, with long white sleeves and a bow. Her hair is curled into twindrills in the front, toward the bottom, and she wears hairclips on either side of her head that look like reddish bubbles with "7" inside. she has a generally sleepy demeanor. Given her depictions and overall look, she is a heavy reference to Chivistan, one of the Windows Vista characters. ===The 7 Cosplays===
It became something of a mini-meme to have pictures of the current -tans dressing up in only some tape over their bodies (and some variations, depending on the -tan) in the shape of a "7", in the belief that they wanted to be 7-tan to gain a resurgence of popularity and maybe a second chance at being top dog. Given the small amount of art of this, they can also be disputed as cosplay pictures of the respective -tans rather than a variation of 7's mascot.

Ah-kun is Ah-tan's feeble younger brother, He's less like his sister in terms of personality, though he still is rather twitchy and fidgetive. Ah-kun's also intelligent and usually doesn't rush into situations headfirst, this being said he's more prone to 'freaking out' and has frequent panic attacks, sometimes fainting if he's frightened enough. The phrase 'D: 1173' on his shirt comes from the 4 numbers at the end of the virus' alias and the first letter (D) is the first letter at the beginning of the virus (David 1173) ironically enough the 'D:' symbol is a pun on his paniky nature, for that very symbol is often associated with the phrase 'Oh Noes!'. His favorite day is Tuesday and he's commonly seen the happiest on that day (this is also a refreance to the Ah virus for the virus activates every Tuesday).

Ah-kun dreams of becoming a General, and works hard in order to make Viru-sama promote him to a general, however due to his panicy nature he often messes up. Ah-kun is actually afraid of his older sister, but this maybe due to the fact that Ah-kun has a slight phobia of women, and not Ah-tan's creepy nature. He is usually with Abraxas-kun, who he sees as a sort of big brother, it is also said that he has befriended Homeo, but no visual accounts exsist to back this up...

4K-tan is a hyper, enthusiastic and proudly geeky ninja girl who also loves roleplaying and renaissance faires, and is a Lord of the Rings fangirl. She is very stealthy and is a ninja as 4K was one of the first viruses to use stealth tactics. Her fondness of LOTR is reference to Frodo being one of 4K's aliases and that on September 22nd (which is also Bilbo Baggin's birthday), 4K displays the message Frodo lives.

4K-tan has wild brown hair and has thick glasses. She typically dons knee breeches, a long-sleeved shirt, gloves, boots, and a neckerchief; all in dark colors and also has a belt with pouches to carry kunai and shuriken (two types of ninja weapons) but is also likes to use swords.

Despite being stealthy and experienced with weapons, she is of the lowest ranked virus-tans but does not really care. She is a pacifist anyways and is much more interested in her roleplaying and LOTR fandom than having to fight, although she does take fight scenes in her roleplaying very seriously! Her friends and roleplaying buddies are BBSpot-tan, Slashdot-tan and BeOS-tan.

Abraxas-tan is a cryptic, and puzzle loving Virus-tan. her appearance is based off her common name, which is (coincidentally) identical to that of the mythological monster 'Abraxas' whom is commonly depicted as half rooster and half man (in her case, she retains the bird like wings and tail feathers). The '5' on her ascot, is a reference to her Alias Name:Abaxas5. Unlike her sister Virus-tans, she is the more lenient and kind viruses and dislikes confrontation or violence for that matter, however this is due to a personality defect, so it is not her TRUE nature. (this defect is a reference to the virus for Abraxas has a bug in it's programming which only allows her it infect the 1st EXE file in an entire directory, when it could have infected them all) Abraxas-tan is often thought of as 'cryptic' or 'hard to follow' for she has a habit of speaking in riddles, this habit based on the text strings which can be found in 'Abraxas' viral code:

Despite her kind nature however, she was still Exiled/Isolated in 1993 (being she's still a virus no matter what bug induced personality she bears) and now resides where her fellow (Isolated) Virus-tans live. Abraxas-tan plays little role in Viru-sama's plot of causing trouble for OS-tans, she's usually happier staying behind and toying with her puzzles, but she is still valued, for despite lacking any sinister qualities, she is quite intelligent. She is also able to sustain flight and is the 3rd child out of 20 who were born from PS-MPC-tan.

A-Bomb.878-tan is an impulsive virus-tan who loves being naughty. Her apperance (the sunglasses, the color of her dress and the '5' on the side of the dress) is based off of Mr.5 from One Piece, who in the series has the power to make ANY part of his body explode like a bomb. A-Bomb-tan is one of the more nasty viru-tans, being she's not only destructive, but she uses excellent meathods of stealth to hide herself from being detected by her enemies, she can be a bit rash though and doesn't normally think things through (a referance to the virus for it infects any file as soon as it's executed) which more than often gets her into more trouble than she bargained for. A-Bomb is said to be a closet psycho often masking a more sinister side with a cute exterior and smile.

A-Bomb takes real pride in being naughty and enjoys her life as a virus to the fullest, this being said Viru-sama is considering making A-Bomb-tan into a General. She has a habit of saying Times ni! at the end of her sentences (usually when she's excitied about something or describing something), this action is another referance to the virus for one of the symptoms a computer shows when it's infected with A-Bomb is that infected files execute twice when they are run (Ni meaning 2 in japanese). She also enjoys hanging out with Mydoom-tan and is usually with in her company, if not then she can be found with her twin brother. She is the only one that her brother, the egomanical A-Bomb-kun, will show absolute submission towards. How, or why, this is, is currently unknown, most say it's due to him fearing her 'true' power.

Acid-tan is an adlutrous and corruptive virus-tan, often using her figure to get what she wants and needs from others. Acid-tan is a bit hard to explain when it comes to references, though as her pro-dominant colors suggest she's affiliated with poison, she also has 2 tattoos each of them are related to the Viruses name and author, (only 1 can be seen in this pic though) the 1st is (usually) the most noticeable, which appear as the numbers '670' (these 3 numbers are the last 3 numbers of the Acid Virus' Aliases, strangely each alias (a total of 5) still bears the same 3 numbers at or near the end), while the 2nd tattoo, which is on her...uhm rear end, reads '$MZU' the ending letters to the Authors name. Acid-tan has the 3rd biggest bustline of the Virus-tans (this comes from the text string Program too big for memory which can be found in files infected with the Acid virus).

Acid-tan is quite promiscuis, and often wears revealing or indecent clothes, if it shows alot of skin then she'll wear it, she is also charismatic and can easily influence those around her into doing things for her, which makes her all the more dangerous, aside from this, Acid-tan won't hesitate to use her looks to get things to go into her favor either. Infact, if McAfee-tan weren't around, Acid-tan would probably be alot more powerful. She is mostly a solitary virus-tan, often doing things on her own accord and for her own reasons, but she will occasionally tag along on Acme-tan's misdaventures just for the fun of it. Acid-tan also has a habit of borrowing things and keeping them for herself often times claiming she forgot she had it (this is another referance to one her alias names; Keeper.Acid.670.)

Acme-tan is a mischevious and clever Viru-tan, who is renowned for her traps and tricks. Her appearance is based off of differant forms of comedy. The hammer, for example, comes from the a common (if not cliched) use in anime humor (a girl pulling out a hammer, usually over exaggerated in size, and whacking a person with them) and her wolf-like ears and tail is a referance to Wile. E. Coyote a prolific (if not, obsessive) user of 'Acme' products. The number on her hammer, 247, comes from the number at the end of her technical name: Clonewar.247 and the number of bytes the virus uses to create a hidden read only COM file (it also stands for it's weight, 247 TONS...which is a lie, it's really only 12 kilograms).

Acme tan is extremely mischevious and loves the thrill of setting traps and watching others fall into them, she sees herself as a great Viru-tan because of this (another referance, for 'Acme' is greek for the great of something), but in reality her traps are more prone to fail than they are to succeed, for the traps themselves are very cartoonish and ultimately obvious to the naked eye (i.e. an Anvil tied to the end of a rope, which is suspended from a tree)Acme-tan is also able to acces 'Malletspace' allowing her to pull out random objects seemingly out of nowhere (another type of humor).

Being a decsendent of Clonewars-tan (and possibly Zeno-tan), She is a replicant and can make clones of herself which will then go about her bidding, the fact she can make 5, or even 10, exact copies of herself made her traps alot more dangerous (though still prone to fail catastropically). She was eventually Isolated in 1992 after causing alot of mischeif and disorder among the OS-tans...though she occasionally gets loose by leaving a clone to fool many into believing she still in exile...Though now since there are newer more secure OS-tans, the chances that her tricks will succeed are nearly close to...well 0%, she has a common enemy in 2k-tan in particular, for Acme-tan has tried dozens of times to get her to fall into a trap, but 2k-tan usually avoids them (rather easily) and has gone so far as to pointing out why they won't work. She is also rivals with Cerberus-tan but the 2 seem to have this rivalry on more friendlier terms. Acme-tan has 3 friends; Ah-tan, WDEF-tan and Bomber-tan

Acme-tan is one of the more popular virus-tans, this is possibly due to her referances to old school cartoon antics

Ah-tan is an impulsive, and somewhat ill-fated Viru-tan, who is a faithful friend to Acme-tan. Ah-tan's impulsive and twitchy personality stems from the Ah virus' tendency to be buggy and cause system hangs on the computer it infected. Her bad luck comes from the fact that the Ah virus is so buggy and unstable that every time it tries to infect a file it causes a system hang in the process, making it very noticeable in the end. Ah-tan can be quite profane and dirty when she's angry, usually shouting vile profanities at the one who angered her (this also comes from the Ah virus for the text string is known to have strong profanity with in it).

Ah-tan has 0 fashion sense and often throws on anything just so she can say she's wearing clothes and not roaming around in her underwear (or naked for that matter). Ah-tan hates secrets and will go out of her way to uncover anything she thinks some one is keeping from her whether it be money or even a simple surprise party. Ah-tan was easily isolated in 1992 (the same year as Acme-tan), thusly she and Acme-tan are common partners in their quest to once again cause mayhem in the OS-tan world, but paired with Acme-tan's flaw-riddled traps and her own bad luck it makes it near impossible to make any real progress on their goal. Ah-tan has a gluttonous addiction for sweets (think XP-tan and her rice) thusly she's almost never seen without some form of candy with her. Ah-tan tends to become jealous of OS-tans who are 'well endowed', some say she's intimidated by this. Ah-tan has a habit of being rather creepy, and ominous, she often ends her sentences with Ku, Ku, Ku.

ANTI-tan- A rouge doctor who is one of the rare virus tans who are able to 'infect' Mac OS-tans. ANTI-tan has split-personalities one side is seemingly kind and always strives to save a patient's life, but when she snaps her latent 2nd personality awakens, this personality is considerably violent and is intent on taking lives rather than saving them (this 2nd personality has been named Satsu ANTI, 'Satsu' literally meaning 'Murder'). Obviously enough, ANTI-tan has a vast knowledge in medicine, and surgical procedures. This being said she's extremely dangerous in combat, for she knows exactly where to 'cut' someone to insure that they're either paralyzed or dead. When she 1st appeared, ANTI-tan infiltrated the Mac House and posed as a doctor for the Mac-tans.

It was originally supposed to be a rather discreet operation involving advanced tactics, but ANTI snapped and went Satsu, it is then that she went on a rampage, only to be challenged by System 6-tan, an epic fight ensued betweeb the 2, but in the end System 6 was victorous. Humiliated, ANTI-tan swore her revenge on the Mac family as well as System 6 and fled to the Viru-tan Area where she now resides as the only doctor to the Virus-tans (ironic isn't it), She currently has no ties to Viru-sama and is happy with simply being a doctor, ANTI seems to be of French descent, being she is a fluent speaker of the language, She remain in close contact with her sister Mac Viruses for as said above there aren't very many of them around. It is currently unknown as to what caused ANTI to snap back when she was with the Mac family. Her being a rouge doctor is coined from her name 'Anti', which is also the 1st word in Anti-virus, in this case it's a play on words being she's a virus against OS-tans. Her being French, is a referance to the viruses origin. The fact she has a split personality is because the true virus was only 'accidentially' destructive. She and WDEF-tan are comrades in crime when it comes to fighting their arch rival; System 6-tan, but ANTI is usually the one plauged by WDEF's annoying and klumsy nature...
