Nijiura (aka 2ch, 2chan or 2channel), the image boards of Futaba Channel, are a Japanese website where various Japanese net characters have been born. The OS-tans were spawned on Futaba on August 6th, 2003, though they aren't the only net characters out there, and often interact with the various other characters this site has created. This is a list of the characters and basic information about them.

===The Random Residents of Futaba===
The OS-tans interact with a host of random characters, and certain ones interact with certian others more. Some, like Toshiaki, are common across the board.

====Toshiaki (としあき)====

The origin of the moniker "Toshiaki" comes from an incident in the early days of Nijiura. Like 4chan, both boards by default list no name, and most users don't list one (instead opting for the tag of "Nameless" ("名無し")). In these early days, a particularlly insistant, trollish poster harassed the posters into copying his name, "Toshiaki". This sparked the operators into changing the default name to "Toshiaki" (prior there was no default name, resulting in the "Nameless" moniker being posted by default). Over time, however, some boards removed this tag and the "Nameless" tag entirely, resulting in all anons being listed as "「」" (pronunced "Kakkou", translated as "Brackets"). Toshiaki, though originally just the name for a random anon, eventually turned into the User character of the OS-tans. "-aki" is actually a suffix, and has been attached to others, such as ME-aki, the credited creator of ME-tan, the first OS-tan.

Toshiaki the character is generally depicted as a college-age man with shaggy, short brown hair. He lives alone in an apartment (apart from sharing his space with his OS-tans), and not much is known or described about him. he is generally patient with his computers, willing to forgive the freezes or crashes of ME-tan without much frustration. It has been hinted that he likes Megannekos ('Glasses Girls'). He may or may not be depicted with eyes, and sometimes is depicted with glasses. ====「」("Kakkou")====

A default name (name used when nothing else is entered) on certain boards on Futaba, Kakkou (which translates literally to "Brackets") also commonly shows up in OS-tan artwork, with the brackets replacing the facial features of an anonymous person. The Brackets originated when the use of "Toshiaki" as a default forum name was dropped, but since the newer boards have picked up "Toshiaki" as an anon name again, both are used in the forum's moniker.

====Akachouchin and Daiginjou====

Akachouchin is a girl often seen with 95-kun. Akachouchin is based off of the character Shinku from the Anime/Manga series ''Rozen Maiden''. A Chouchin is a type of paper lantern, while Aka means red, so the character is a silver-haired girl with a red headdress with red paper lanterns on the sides. Perhaps this is is a sign of the Red Light District, which might coorespond to Akachouchin's frequent inebriation. 95-kun is more often depicted with Akachouchin, who is usually depicted with some sort of container, as it is said that Akachouchin is excellent at making sake (though it is in the kuchikami way of chewing the ingredients and then spitting them into the pot to ferment). Daiginjou is a woman often seen with 95-tan. Daiginjou is derived from Suigintou and Kun-kun, both from the ''Rozen Maiden'' series. Like Akachouchin, Daiginjou is often associated with alcohol, but instead of making it, she serves it as a bartender. She is a tall, reubenesque blonde woman with brown dog ears under a small maid ruffle, flanked by red paper lanterns. Her hair varies in length depending on the picture, some depicting it in a slightly shorter cut than 2k-tan, some depicting it longer than 95's. She is a frequent companion of 95-tan and Kiri-san, the three seeming to be drinking buddies. Daiginjou has also been shown to hang out with 2k-kun and Eigyouseki after work. A lone comic[http://www.otakubell.com/os-girls/Gallery/picture.php?/465/category/7] has implied that there might be a romantic relationship between 2k-kun and Daiginjou.

====Kiri-san (霧さん)====

Kiri-san is a tall, buxom woman with long silvery-blue hair, small half-rim glasses and yellow eyes. She is based off the popular character Kotonomiya Yuki(琴乃宮雪), from the cult classic hentai visual novel Suigetsu. Though she, like her base character, is a maid, she is frequently pictured in various outfits, though her maid's uniform is brown and white. Her younger sister, Yukiko-san, is based off of the same character, though Yukiko's hair is about the length of 2k-tan's, and her eyes are red. Yukiko-san seems to appear significantly less than her older sister. Kiri-san worries about her. Kiri-san is older than most other net characters, so she is frequently seen hanging out with 2 characters her own age, 95-tan and Daiginjou (95-tan especially; the two seem to be best friends by all the artwork of them).

====Eigyouseki====

Eigyouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1265397867203.jpg][http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=eigyouseki] is a short man with an odd, almost frog or cat-shaped green hat (similar to Finn's from Adventure Time) that he wears all the time. He works in the same office as Yamada, WE-tan, and 2k-kun, and is a member of the circle of friends in that respect. He can be seen commuting to work with 2k-kun, occasionally working overtime, and going out for drinks with his friends (which sometimes includes Daiginjou and the others). Overall, his personality is very kind, though nervous when talking to others. One could say he relies on 2k-kun to be his wing man when talking to new folks. He has a crush on Daiginjou, which may or may not fuel a rivalry with 2k-kun.

He has a plain, soft face with small features (including a set of beady-yet-cute eyes) and brown hair, which can often be seen sticking out from underneath the hat. It's uncommon to see him out of office wear. Additionally, he and Jissouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1263274673614.png] look quite similar, as both were based on a super-deformed version of the ''Rozen Maiden'' character Suiseiseki (Jissouseki being more similar to the base in appearance; Eigyouseki is said to be the "Office Mutation").

====Shitsuji-kun====

Shitsuji-kun is a Satyr, technically. However, contrary to what's expected of the species, Shitsuji-kun is calm, polite, and actually quite shy. Perhaps this is due to his name being a play on the words "Sheep" ("Hitsuji") and "Butler" ("Shitsuji"). He dresses formally, and usually behaves in a shy manner. His large, furry sheep legs almost act as a sort of bloomers (and they sometimes are, depending on the rendition), but after that he only wears a shirt, vest, and bowtie or collar. His hair is short yet shaggy, with a slight wave to it, and is somewhere between blonde and silver in colour. He has a crush on Inu-t, who seems to somewhat return his feelings, though is rather oblivious. ====Waha====

A chibi character based off of the Suigetsu character Yamato Suzuran, Waha was one of the first Futaba characters, alongside Heika[http://shii.org/knows/Futaba_Channel#Futaba_characters] (both were made in early 2003, before ME-tan). Waha got her basis from Suzuran's common exclamation of "Waha!", which Futaba took kindly to, making Waha a seperate character. Waha is done up in extreme chibi style, having a head-to-body ratio of about 2 or 3, with little nubbly limbs and a near constant expression of ^__^ or ＾∇＾. Her clothing consists of a small pair of black shorts, a white shirt with red and white striped sleeves, and a tan bandana over short brown hair. Waha's popularity has inspired flash games, animations, and spin-offs with people or characters imitating her classic Waha pose.

Waha has an older sister, Musu, who is depicted as older, taller, and wearing blue (vs. Waha's red). Musu, like Waha, is based off of Yamato Suzuran.

Waha also has a 'pet human' named Choia. A Futaba Original, her basis is unclear, with some sources saying she is another Suzuran derivitave. She is almost always naked save for a red collar, and has purpleish-grey hair in a long, low ponytail, with a very prominent ahoge (comparable to ME-tan's).

====Astaroth====

Astaroth is a curvy, blue-skinned demon girl with large, black, slightly curved horns, long blue hair, and yellow eyes. (Occasionally, she has wings.) She is a character from a TCG (Trading Card Game) called Shinrabanshou, which is packaged with candy or chocolate and sold by Bandai. Astaroth is the most well-known character of the game.

In her downtime, she enjoys wearing tshirts with offensive or bizarre slogans and lives in an apartment with Yamada-tan, WE-tan and Spider Man. Astaroth seems laid back, or somewhat clueless of the society around her. While there was more art of her with the OS-tans in the past, it seems to be harder to come by now. In the past, the -tans she was mostly pictured with included Yamada-tan, WE-tan, 95-tan, and perhaps 2k-tan.

====Yabai====

Yabai, while not technically one of the Nijiura Maids, is a maid that was created on Nijiura. She's a Harpy based off the Snowy Owl, after an anon posted a couple panels of ''Jagan wa Gachirin ni Tobu'' to the Guro board and it became popular.

====Shippai====
In the same catagory as Yabai as a sort of "bonus maid", Shippai is not one of the official "Nijiura Maids", but is a maid from Nijiura. She can be easily recgonized by her straight brown hair (no bangs, bob cut), creepy snickering expression, flat nose, and buck teeth. Shippai is regarded as obnoxious due to her malicious spreading of hurtful gossip, without much regard to others' feelings. This has garnered her a low reputation in the Futaba community, with her presence being somewhat looked down upon by others. It is unclear if she even lives up to her duties as a maid, instead being more interested in the latest scoop. ====Kiai(きあい)====

Another random maid. Taking her name from "Kiai"(きあい, "Fighting Spirit"), Kiai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=kiai] is a very active tomboyish kind of girl, taking her design from Capcom characters Kasugano Sakura (''Street Fighter'') and Wakaba Hinata (''Rival Schools: United by Fate''). She seems to be a fighter, judging by her dress (sports bra, biking shorts, wrist weights, and maid's ruffle atop short brown hair with trailing headband in back). With this in mind, she seems to get along with XP-kun, suggesting they might train together (her wrist weights also sport the same colour scheme as XP-kun's cuffs). ====Inu/Inui====
Inu[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:Astaroth_and_inu.jpg] and Inui[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:2k_inui_ce_chikoi_3m_chinese.jpg] are an oddity among the Futaba Characters. Though Inui has been described as a maid, she is rarely seen wearing any maid's attire or any clothes at all outside of Inu-T's collar. Both are derivitaves of Inu-T (hence the collar), and are long, blue forms with black, beady eyes as their only facial features (Inui is sometimes pictured with Inu-T's ears and bow). They appear as background characters in quite a few OS-tan and Nijiura/Futaba pictures, sometimes more than one of them at a time. Not much else is known about them. ===The Nijiura Maids===
Born out of an Anon's Thought about having a cute maid, the Nijiura Maids are a group of Maids with odd personalities or physical characteristics. They are sometimes shown with the OS-tans. Each one of their names is a pun, which started with the first maid, Medoi. Her name is a pun on "Meido", the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid". "Medoi" is also a slang term for "Bother", so Medoi thinks everything is troublesome.

====Chikoi-san====
Chikoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/chikoi], from "Chikkoi" (ちっこい, "Small") is about the size of Windows CE. Her teeny-tiny stature leads to much abuse by Toshiaki, though whether or not this is intentional is unexplained. Due to her size, she hangs out with CE-tan most often, though she also hangs out with the net characters[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/325655/astaroth_-shinrabanshou-black_sclera-blue_hair-blu] Makibishi (the small, grey, pointy one) and Mobiko (the small green one in the chef's hat). Chikoi has short blue hair and an orange maid's uniform.

====Dorei-san====
Dorei[http://desuchan.net/nij/res/81.html] is a slave. She is stoic about her plight, never showing much emotion. The most obvious "joke" here is that she is the only dark-skinned maid. She exhibits great strength, possibly gained from being shackled to large weights constantly. She hangs around with Shitai-san and Yakui-san frequently. Her uniform is tattered at the bottom, and varies in colour, usually sticking to a dirty olive green.

====Hidoi-san====
Hidoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/hidoi] (ひどい, Awful), is terrible at everything she does. Like ME-tan, she tries quite hard, but sadly she ends up failing even more than the Freeze Master herself. She is especially terrible at cooking, and is often subjected to abuse due to her uselessness. To add insult to injury, she also frequently experiences bad luck. She has brown hair held back in a pair of twintails, and a light greyish-blue outfit.

====Inai-san====
Inai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=inai] ("not here") is an invisible maid. Typically she's depicted in pictures as a bowl of food with no one at it, or a shadow. When she DOES appear, she has long black hair and a green camo maid's uniform.

====Kudoi-san====
Kudoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/kudoi] takes her name from "Kudoi" (くどい, "Verbose"). She is a chatterbox, often filling up the page with meaningless prattle. Despite this, she's very sweet. She keeps her orange hair tied up in a ponytail, and her outfit is pink. Her birthday is the 11th of October.

====Kurai-san====
Kurai[http://www.shii.org/maids/kurai] gets her name from "Kurai" (暗い or くらい, "Gloomy") or "Kuro" (黒, "Black"). Her outlook on life is grim, and she sometimes dresses in Gothic-Lolita style. She doesn't really smile. She keeps her black hair tied back in braids, wears glasses and a lemonhead hairclip, off-setting her black maid's outfit. ====Madoi-san====
Madoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/madoi] gets her name from "Madoi" (惑い or まどい, "Bewilderment"), leading her to share some personality traits with Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. Everything confuses her and she frequently gets lost. She wears a black outfit with bandages on the upper parts of the sleeves, and short red hair.

====Medoi-san====
Medoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/medoi] was the first of the maids, her name being a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid", "Meido". "Medoi also happens to be slang for "Bother" or "Troublesome", leading her personality to be apathetic as she thinks everything is a burden. In some instances, she seems to be Toshiaki's personal Maid. She has a pet cat, also named "Medoi". Her maid outfit is a greyish brown, and her birthday is April 21st, 2004.

====Modoi-san====
Modoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/modoi] takes her name from "Modokashii" (もどかしい, "Feeling Impatient"). As a result, she is extremely impatient and easily agitated. She gets little work done because she doesn't have the patience for it. Her outfit is blue, and her birthday is the 18th of July.

====Nemui-san====
Nemui[http://www.shii.org/maids/nemui] takes her name from "Nemui" (眠い or ねむい, "Sleepy") or "Nemuri" ("To Sleep"). She is sleepy constantly and carries a pillow with her everywhere in case of an accidental nap. She seems to suffer from narcolepsy, though the naps she takes doesn't aleviate her tiredness at all. She wears a deep brown outfit, matching her shoulder-length brown hair. She also wears glasses.

====Shibai-san====
Shibai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shibai] is an actress maid who wears makeup, unlike the other maids. She wears a red and gold Cheongsam under her apron, and keeps her sea-green hair cropped into a bob cut. Not much information could be found on her.

====Shitai-san====
Shitai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shitai], from "Shitai" (死体 or したい, "Corpse") and the phrase "Shitai" (したい, "I want to Do It"), is a very lewd corpse. Unlike some other net characters that have been seen, she is NOT a zombie; she is a fully dead, immobile, unsentient corpse. Her skin has turned to a sickly ashen blue, but despite this, she manages to stay pretty. She sports long emerald-green hair and a dark orange maid outfit, which due to "uneartly spirits", always seems to be pushed up, revealing her panties in some way. This, combined with her "behavior" (whatever the behavior of a corpse can be called) has earned her a reputation as a bit of a nymphomaniac. She is often seen in the company of one or more other maids, usually being dragged around in some way.

====Usai-san====
Usai[http://www.shii.org/maids/usai] gets her name from Usagi (兎 or うさぎ, "Rabbit") and "Urusai" (ウルサイ, "Shut Up!"). She is a bunny girl who only wants peace and quiet, but never gets her message across properly. Instead of saying "Urusai", it comes out "Usai" ("Shup!"), meaning no one takes her seriously. She wears a bright blue outfit (matching the bunny ear headband she has) and sports long, blonde hair, and a clock necklace.

====Yakui-san====
Yakui[http://www.shii.org/maids/yakui] has her name come from "Yakuji" (やくじ, "Medicine"). She is addicted to pharmaceuticals and is often pictured drooling or with a crazed look in her eye. One of the maids featured in the fighting game Nijikaku, one of her attacks involves transporting the opponent to a spinning, brightly and starkly yellow and purple striped world, leading one to believe that she experiences psychadelic hallucinations regularly. She has been known to give out advice on medicines to passerby in the drug store (noteably Homeo), though whether this was good or bad advice is subject to speculation. She is frequently seen donning handcuffs, due to her nature being dangerous. She also wears a light blue outfit with bob-cut purple hair.

====Yowai-san====
Yowai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=yowai] ("frail") is, like her namesake, fragile. She is near-constantly depicted with blood coming out of her mouth or nose, and is usually quite weak. She wears back-length black hair and a brown uniform, and a cross around her neck.

====The Nijiura Chinese Maids====
The Nijiura Chinese Maids are a group of 13 Maids based off the Chinese Constellations and Mythology. Unlike the original Nijiura Maids, the Chinese Maids' names are based off the animal they represent, rather than a pun. =====Kyuuki and the Si-xiong(Four Friends)=====

Kyuuki is a Maid character that is an odd combination of animal parts; She has paw-like hands and feet, a cat's tail, animal ears, and a pair of wings. Most of these are different colours than each other, and different colours than her skin. Other than that, she is seen sporting a pixie cut, a maid's outfit, and glasses.

Kyuuki is commonly shown harassing OSX-kun, with which she seems to have a fascination bordering on obsession (their encounters have run the gambit from friendly to near-molestation). Perhaps due to her cat tendencies, she might see in him a mate, but over half the time he is striving to get away from her, implying any sort of relationship is at best semi-consensual.

Kyuuki is a member of the Si-xiong, or Four Friends. It is a group of mythical creatures mentioned in Chinese Mythology, and the Nijiura group also consists of Konton, Toukotsu, and Toutetsu. The 4 (especially the first 3) are frequently pictured together in artwork.

===OS-tan Based Characters===

====Yamada-tan====

Yamada[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=yamada-san] began life as the candidate to be Windows 98. However, due to her common OL (Office Lady) appearance, she was rejected for being too plain. After the fall from grace, Yamada began her life as a Futaba character, taking up residence in comics with WE-tan, 2k-kun, Astaroth, Eigyouseki, and Daiginjou. Like many older OS-tans, Yamada consistently wishes for a bigger chest, and otherwise lives the life of the average OL (reads manga on the train, occasionally does cute-yet-embarassing things, has dreams of marriage). She hails from Niigata Prefecture, and enjoys staying up late and watching TV.

Yamada's typical look is a blue skirted suit with white longsleeve button-up shirt and blue vest with the windows logo somewhere on it. Some pictures give her a piece of computer equipment (a hard drive, maybe?) wrapped around her hips like a belt. She has brown eyes and a slightly long bob cut for her brown hair. ====WE-tan====

Though some sources list WE-tan (aka Taeko) as simply an ME-tan fangirl, other sources credit her as being Windows Explorer-tan (this is the accepted form on OSC). As Explorer-tan, she is often overlooked in her abilities, being seen as simple and flighty like her idol, ME-tan. On the contrary, WE-tan is one of the harder workers at the office, often having to scold Yamada to get back to work. She shares an apartment with Yamada, Astaroth, and Spider Man.

WE's typical look is almost a bizzaro ME-tan; she dresses in pink and black, with an orange icon (a downward-pointing triangle with a question mark in it)on her chest. She keeps her long, pink hair in braids like ME-tan. She has also been shown in office attire similar to Yamada-tan.

====Pizza-tan & Pizza-kun====

Pizza-tan is a Futaba original character without much basis. Considering her style, though, one could claim she has 2k-tan for a basis. Windows 7 is an operating system first released on July 22nd, 2009, and to the general public on October 22nd, 2009. It built off of many of the same features introduced in Windows [[Vista]], upgrading them and improving them to be more stable. Windows 7 also introduced multi-touch support, an updated shell, and the HomeGroup networking system. Windows 7, unlike XP and Vista, did not feature many Microsoft programs (such as Movie Maker and Photo Gallery) standard, but instead as part of a free download named Windows Essentials.

==Nanami Madobe==

Nanami Madobe is the unofficial mascot representing the Windows 7 operating system made by Microsoft. Although it was largely believed that Nanami was official, it was revealed later on that she was designed by artist Wakaba and made by Windows 7 Mania (owned by Techno Alliance Corp). However, her creation led to the first official Microsoft OS-tans, Hikaru Aizawa and the Bing girls. Nanami was a part of a theme complete with images and audio voiced by singer and voice actress, [[wikipedia:Mizuki_Nana|Mizuki Nana]], and was released with the first 7777 copies of Windows 7 Ultimate in Japan.

Nanami is depicted as a 15 or so year old girl, with a blue bob cut similar to Windows 2000's and Windows 98's, a schoolgirl-like outfit with the front of the vest shaped into a "7", a rainbow broach in the middle of a bow (possibly being a blended representation of the Windows Logo) and a hairband with a 4-leafed clover shaped pin on it in the colours of the Windows logo. Possibly referencing her increased stability and decreased dependence on RAM, she has a smaller chest than her predecessor, Vista.

==Other Versions==
Though Nanami is the generally accepted representation of Windows 7, there are other 7-tans out there, mostly made by the Futaba community. Similar to Vista's release, there seemed to be a bit of a boss-rush of -tans competing for canonism.

===Vienna-tan===
Although most often seen as a silhouette, [http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=237&pos=50 Vienna-tan] is depicted as almost an older-looking version of Inu-T, with more mechanical-looking ears and longer hair and tail. She was named for 7's codename, Vienna, and was used as a placeholder while the community waited for the OS's release.

===The 7-tan Lolis===
With the flood of -tans with 7's release, a couple non-canon and semi-canon loli-type mascots were released. The Futaba Loli has silver hair and red glasses, and wears some sort of grey headpiece. she wears a frilly skirt and a tube top, and is commonly depicted with a mouse pointer squeezing her in some way. The other loli of mention is around the same age region as Futaba's, with white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She wears a dress made out of the new Windows logo, with long white sleeves and a bow. Her hair is curled into twindrills in the front, toward the bottom, and she wears hairclips on either side of her head that look like reddish bubbles with "7" inside. she has a generally sleepy demeanor. Given her depictions and overall look, she is a heavy reference to Chivistan, one of the Windows Vista characters. ===The 7 Cosplays===
It became something of a mini-meme to have pictures of the current -tans dressing up in only some tape over their bodies (and some variations, depending on the -tan) in the shape of a "7", in the belief that they wanted to be 7-tan to gain a resurgence of popularity and maybe a second chance at being top dog. Given the small amount of art of this, they can also be disputed as cosplay pictures of the respective -tans rather than a variation of 7's mascot.

===The Bing Girls===

i'm choco.

figured if i'm going to edit the wiki, i should have a page like everyone does. :3

i first saw the OS-tans on a flash game on 4chan (the Megaslots [http://www.4chan.org/flash?file=MegaSlotsv1.0.swf&title=Megaslots+v1.0&w=600&h=400] ) in 2006. i joined OS-Tan Collections in Fall of 2008, though i was a member of a different OS-tan Fansite (soul-reply.net) starting 2 years prior. when that site went down, i googled OS-tans and found Collections. frankly, i feel kind of dumb for not doing that sooner. >>; though i look back on my early posts as noobish, i worked hard to move up the ranks and now am a wiki editor, major contrbuter to the gallery, and currently have the largest post count of anyone at OSC. though it is a source of pride for me, i live to serve the site and the OS-tans. ^^

i firmly believe that if something contains OS-tans, it is our duty to find it and catalogue it, regardless of content. indeed, many of the pictures i have uploaded to the gallery bother me on some level, but if it has OS-tans, then someone has to host it, and how can we call ourselves "collections" if we only collect what is deemed 'suitable'? there's someone out there that would enjoy it, otherwise it wouldn't exist. besides, we are one of the last remaining English OS-tan Fansites (Otakubell [http://www.otakubell.com/os-girls/] being another). It is our duty to keep the story of the OS-tans alive.

i consider myself an expert on the OS-tans (this being gained through years of research), with a specialty in the Futaba Characters, the Nijiura Characters, and the OS-kuns (to date i am the only one on the site who has done extensive research on them and their personalities). Strangely enough, a good deal of my information on OS-tan and OS-kun personalities was gained from Soul-Reply. (i'm thankful that i had printed out the webpage where the information was hosted, then scanned and uploaded it back to OSC.)

outside of OSC, i am a commuter student at an art school in Boston, MA. i have been drawing since age 5, and got my first "How to Draw Manga" book at age 11. i've been wanting to be a manga artist since before i even knew about the term, since i was 5 years old and watching Sailor Moon reruns at 5 am on saturday mornings with the tv turned up to 4.
my birthday is march 10 (pisces), my blood type is O, and i was born in the year of the monkey. my hobbies include anime and manga (both watching and collecting; my manga collection is over 400 volumes), drawing (i've had an OS-tan comic in the works for a few years now, it's not on the internet yet), listening to music (it's hard to find types of music i don't like), watching TV (my favourite non-animated show is Law and Order: SVU), video games, Tabletop RPGs, sewing, singing, cooking (especially japanese food and recipes for Bento) and Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. My favourite foods are Chocolate, Caramel, Pizza, and Minestrone Soup. (I also enjoy discount food.) my favourite drink is Coca-cola.

Nijiura and Futaba Characters

Nijiura (aka 2ch, 2chan or 2channel), the image boards of Futaba Channel, are a Japanese website where various Japanese net characters have been born. The OS-tans were spawned on Futaba on August 6th, 2003, though they aren't the only net characters out there, and often interact with the various other characters this site has created. This is a list of the characters and basic information about them.

===The Random Residents of Futaba===
The OS-tans interact with a host of random characters, and certain ones interact with certian others more. Some, like Toshiaki, are common across the board.

====Toshiaki (としあき)====

The origin of the moniker "Toshiaki" comes from an incident in the early days of Nijiura. Like 4chan, both boards by default list no name, and most users don't list one (instead opting for the tag of "Nameless" ("名無し")). In these early days, a particularlly insistant, trollish poster harassed the posters into copying his name, "Toshiaki". This sparked the operators into changing the default name to "Toshiaki" (prior there was no default name, resulting in the "Nameless" moniker being posted by default). Toshiaki, though originally just the name for a random anon, eventually turned into the User character of the OS-tans. "-aki" is actually a suffix, and has been attached to others, such as ME-aki, the credited creator of ME-tan, the first OS-tan.

Toshiaki the character is generally depicted as a college-age man with shaggy, short brown hair. He lives alone in an apartment (apart from sharing his space with his OS-tans), and not much is known or described about him. he is generally patient with his computers, willing to forgive the freezes or crashes of ME-tan without much frustration. It has been hinted that he likes Megannekos ('Glasses Girls'). He may or may not be depicted with eyes, and sometimes is depicted with glasses. A default name (name used when nothing else is entered) on certain boards on Futaba, Kakkou (which translates literally to "Brackets") also commonly shows up in OS-tan artwork, with the brackets replacing the facial features of an anonymous person. The Brackets originated when the use of "Toshiaki" as a default forum name was dropped, but since the newer boards have picked up "Toshiaki" as an anon name again, both are used in the forum's moniker.

====Akachouchin and Daiginjou====

Akachouchin is a girl often seen with 95-kun. Akachouchin is based off of the character Shinku from the Anime/Manga series ''Rozen Maiden''. A Chouchin is a type of paper lantern, while Aka means red, so the character is a silver-haired girl with a red headdress with red paper lanterns on the sides. Perhaps this is is a sign of the Red Light District, which might coorespond to Akachouchin's frequent inebriation. 95-kun is more often depicted with Akachouchin, who is usually depicted with some sort of container, as it is said that Akachouchin is excellent at making sake (though it is in the kuchikami way of chewing the ingredients and then spitting them into the pot to ferment). Daiginjou is a woman often seen with 95-tan. Daiginjou is derived from Suigintou and Kun-kun, both from the ''Rozen Maiden'' series. Like Akachouchin, Daiginjou is often associated with alcohol, but instead of making it, she serves it as a bartender. She is a tall, reubenesque blonde woman with brown dog ears under a small maid ruffle, flanked by red paper lanterns. Her hair varies in length depending on the picture, some depicting it in a slightly shorter cut than 2k-tan, some depicting it longer than 95's. She is a frequent companion of 95-tan and Kiri-san, the three seeming to be drinking buddies. Daiginjou has also been shown to hang out with 2k-kun and Eigyouseki after work. A lone comic[http://www.otakubell.com/os-girls/Gallery/picture.php?/465/category/7] has implied that there might be a romantic relationship between 2k-kun and Daiginjou.

====Kiri-san (霧さん)====

Kiri-san is a tall, buxom woman with long silvery-blue hair, small half-rim glasses and yellow eyes. She is based off the popular character Kotonomiya Yuki(琴乃宮雪), from the cult classic hentai visual novel Suigetsu. Though she, like her base character, is a maid, she is frequently pictured in various outfits, though her maid's uniform is brown and white. Her younger sister, Yukiko-san, is based off of the same character, though Yukiko's hair is about the length of 2k-tan's, and her eyes are red. Yukiko-san seems to appear significantly less than her older sister. Kiri-san worries about her. Kiri-san is older than most other net characters, so she is frequently seen hanging out with 2 characters her own age, 95-tan and Daiginjou (95-tan especially; the two seem to be best friends by all the artwork of them).

====Eigyouseki====

Eigyouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1265397867203.jpg][http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=eigyouseki] is a short man with an odd, almost frog or cat-shaped green hat (similar to Finn's from Adventure Time) that he wears all the time. He works in the same office as Yamada, WE-tan, and 2k-kun, and is a member of the circle of friends in that respect. He can be seen commuting to work with 2k-kun, occasionally working overtime, and going out for drinks with his friends (which sometimes includes Daiginjou and the others). Overall, his personality is very kind, though nervous when talking to others. One could say he relies on 2k-kun to be his wing man when talking to new folks. He has a crush on Daiginjou, which may or may not fuel a rivalry with 2k-kun.

He has a plain, soft face with small features (including a set of beady-yet-cute eyes) and brown hair, which can often be seen sticking out from underneath the hat. It's uncommon to see him out of office wear. Additionally, he and Jissouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1263274673614.png] look quite similar, as both were based on a super-deformed version of the ''Rozen Maiden'' character Suiseiseki (Jissouseki being more similar to the base in appearance; Eigyouseki is said to be the "Office Mutation").

====Shitsuji-kun====

Shitsuji-kun is a Satyr, technically. However, contrary to what's expected of the species, Shitsuji-kun is calm, polite, and actually quite shy. Perhaps this is due to his name being a play on the words "Sheep" ("Hitsuji") and "Butler" ("Shitsuji"). He dresses formally, and usually behaves in a shy manner. His large, furry sheep legs almost act as a sort of bloomers (and they sometimes are, depending on the rendition), but after that he only wears a shirt, vest, and bowtie or collar. His hair is short yet shaggy, with a slight wave to it, and is somewhere between blonde and silver in colour. He has a crush on Inu-t, who seems to somewhat return his feelings, though is rather oblivious. ====Waha====

A chibi character based off of the Suigetsu character Yamato Suzuran, Waha was one of the first Futaba characters, alongside Heika[http://shii.org/knows/Futaba_Channel#Futaba_characters] (both were made in early 2003, before ME-tan). Waha got her basis from Suzuran's common exclamation of "Waha!", which Futaba took kindly to, making Waha a seperate character. Waha is done up in extreme chibi style, having a head-to-body ratio of about 2 or 3, with little nubbly limbs and a near constant expression of ^__^ or ＾∇＾. Her clothing consists of a small pair of black shorts, a white shirt with red and white striped sleeves, and a tan bandana over short brown hair. Waha's popularity has inspired flash games, animations, and spin-offs with people or characters imitating her classic Waha pose.

Waha has an older sister, Musu, who is depicted as older, taller, and wearing blue (vs. Waha's red). Musu, like Waha, is based off of Yamato Suzuran.

Waha also has a 'pet human' named Choia. A Futaba Original, her basis is unclear, with some sources saying she is another Suzuran derivitave. She is almost always naked save for a red collar, and has purpleish-grey hair in a long, low ponytail, with a very prominent ahoge (comparable to ME-tan's).

====Astaroth====

Astaroth is a curvy, blue-skinned demon girl with large, black, slightly curved horns, long blue hair, and yellow eyes. (Occasionally, she has wings.) She is a character from a TCG (Trading Card Game) called Shinrabanshou, which is packaged with candy or chocolate and sold by Bandai. Astaroth is the most well-known character of the game.

In her downtime, she enjoys wearing tshirts with offensive or bizarre slogans and lives in an apartment with Yamada-tan, WE-tan and Spider Man. Astaroth seems laid back, or somewhat clueless of the society around her. While there was more art of her with the OS-tans in the past, it seems to be harder to come by now. In the past, the -tans she was mostly pictured with included Yamada-tan, WE-tan, 95-tan, and perhaps 2k-tan.

====Yabai====

Yabai, while not technically one of the Nijiura Maids, is a maid that was created on Nijiura. She's a Harpy based off the Snowy Owl, after an anon posted a couple panels of ''Jagan wa Gachirin ni Tobu'' to the Guro board and it became popular.

====Shippai====
In the same catagory as Yabai as a sort of "bonus maid", Shippai is not one of the official "Nijiura Maids", but is a maid from Nijiura. She can be easily recgonized by her straight brown hair (no bangs, bob cut), creepy snickering expression, flat nose, and buck teeth. Shippai is regarded as obnoxious due to her malicious spreading of hurtful gossip, without much regard to others' feelings. This has garnered her a low reputation in the Futaba community, with her presence being somewhat looked down upon by others. It is unclear if she even lives up to her duties as a maid, instead being more interested in the latest scoop. ====Kiai(きあい)====

Another random maid. Taking her name from "Kiai"(きあい, "Fighting Spirit"), Kiai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=kiai] is a very active tomboyish kind of girl, taking her design from Capcom characters Kasugano Sakura (''Street Fighter'') and Wakaba Hinata (''Rival Schools: United by Fate''). She seems to be a fighter, judging by her dress (sports bra, biking shorts, wrist weights, and maid's ruffle atop short brown hair with trailing headband in back). With this in mind, she seems to get along with XP-kun, suggesting they might train together (her wrist weights also sport the same colour scheme as XP-kun's cuffs). ====Inu/Inui====
Inu[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:Astaroth_and_inu.jpg] and Inui[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:2k_inui_ce_chikoi_3m_chinese.jpg] are an oddity among the Futaba Characters. Though Inui has been described as a maid, she is rarely seen wearing any maid's attire or any clothes at all outside of Inu-T's collar. Both are derivitaves of Inu-T (hence the collar), and are long, blue forms with black, beady eyes as their only facial features (Inui is sometimes pictured with Inu-T's ears and bow). They appear as background characters in quite a few OS-tan and Nijiura/Futaba pictures, sometimes more than one of them at a time. Not much else is known about them. ===The Nijiura Maids===
Born out of an Anon's Thought about having a cute maid, the Nijiura Maids are a group of Maids with odd personalities or physical characteristics. They are sometimes shown with the OS-tans. Each one of their names is a pun, which started with the first maid, Medoi. Her name is a pun on "Meido", the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid". "Medoi" is also a slang term for "Bother", so Medoi thinks everything is troublesome.

====Chikoi-san====
Chikoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/chikoi], from "Chikkoi" (ちっこい, "Small") is about the size of Windows CE. Her teeny-tiny stature leads to much abuse by Toshiaki, though whether or not this is intentional is unexplained. Due to her size, she hangs out with CE-tan most often, though she also hangs out with the net characters[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/325655/astaroth_-shinrabanshou-black_sclera-blue_hair-blu] Makibishi (the small, grey, pointy one) and Mobiko (the small green one in the chef's hat). Chikoi has short blue hair and an orange maid's uniform.

====Dorei-san====
Dorei[http://desuchan.net/nij/res/81.html] is a slave. She is stoic about her plight, never showing much emotion. The most obvious "joke" here is that she is the only dark-skinned maid. She exhibits great strength, possibly gained from being shackled to large weights constantly. She hangs around with Shitai-san and Yakui-san frequently. Her uniform is tattered at the bottom, and varies in colour, usually sticking to a dirty olive green.

====Hidoi-san====
Hidoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/hidoi] (ひどい, Awful), is terrible at everything she does. Like ME-tan, she tries quite hard, but sadly she ends up failing even more than the Freeze Master herself. She is especially terrible at cooking, and is often subjected to abuse due to her uselessness. To add insult to injury, she also frequently experiences bad luck. She has brown hair held back in a pair of twintails, and a light greyish-blue outfit.

====Inai-san====
Inai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=inai] ("not here") is an invisible maid. Typically she's depicted in pictures as a bowl of food with no one at it, or a shadow. When she DOES appear, she has long black hair and a green camo maid's uniform.

====Kudoi-san====
Kudoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/kudoi] takes her name from "Kudoi" (くどい, "Verbose"). She is a chatterbox, often filling up the page with meaningless prattle. Despite this, she's very sweet. She keeps her orange hair tied up in a ponytail, and her outfit is pink. Her birthday is the 11th of October.

====Kurai-san====
Kurai[http://www.shii.org/maids/kurai] gets her name from "Kurai" (暗い or くらい, "Gloomy") or "Kuro" (黒, "Black"). Her outlook on life is grim, and she sometimes dresses in Gothic-Lolita style. She doesn't really smile. She keeps her black hair tied back in braids, wears glasses and a lemonhead hairclip, off-setting her black maid's outfit. Madoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/madoi] gets her name from "Madoi" (惑い or まどい, "Bewilderment"), leading her to share some personality traits with Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. Everything confuses her and she frequently gets lost. She wears a black outfit with bandages on the upper parts of the sleeves, and short red hair.

====Medoi-san====
Medoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/medoi] was the first of the maids, her name being a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid", "Meido". "Medoi also happens to be slang for "Bother" or "Troublesome", leading her personality to be apathetic as she thinks everything is a burden. In some instances, she seems to be Toshiaki's personal Maid. She has a pet cat, also named "Medoi". Her maid outfit is a greyish brown, and her birthday is April 21st, 2004.

====Modoi-san====
Modoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/modoi] takes her name from "Modokashii" (もどかしい, "Feeling Impatient"). As a result, she is extremely impatient and easily agitated. She gets little work done because she doesn't have the patience for it. Her outfit is blue, and her birthday is the 18th of July.

====Nemui-san====
Nemui[http://www.shii.org/maids/nemui] takes her name from "Nemui" (眠い or ねむい, "Sleepy") or "Nemuri" ("To Sleep"). She is sleepy constantly and carries a pillow with her everywhere in case of an accidental nap. She seems to suffer from narcolepsy, though the naps she takes doesn't aleviate her tiredness at all. She wears a deep brown outfit, matching her shoulder-length brown hair. She also wears glasses.

====Shibai-san====
Shibai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shibai] is an actress maid who wears makeup, unlike the other maids. She wears a red and gold Cheongsam under her apron, and keeps her sea-green hair cropped into a bob cut. Not much information could be found on her.

====Shitai-san====
Shitai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shitai], from "Shitai" (死体 or したい, "Corpse") and the phrase "Shitai" (したい, "I want to Do It"), is a very lewd corpse. Unlike some other net characters that have been seen, she is NOT a zombie; she is a fully dead, immobile, unsentient corpse. Her skin has turned to a sickly ashen blue, but despite this, she manages to stay pretty. She sports long emerald-green hair and a dark orange maid outfit, which due to "uneartly spirits", always seems to be pushed up, revealing her panties in some way. This, combined with her "behavior" (whatever the behavior of a corpse can be called) has earned her a reputation as a bit of a nymphomaniac. She is often seen in the company of one or more other maids, usually being dragged around in some way.

====Usai-san====
Usai[http://www.shii.org/maids/usai] gets her name from Usagi (兎 or うさぎ, "Rabbit") and "Urusai" (ウルサイ, "Shut Up!"). She is a bunny girl who only wants peace and quiet, but never gets her message across properly. Instead of saying "Urusai", it comes out "Usai" ("Shup!"), meaning no one takes her seriously. She wears a bright blue outfit (matching the bunny ear headband she has) and sports long, blonde hair, and a clock necklace.

====Yakui-san====
Yakui[http://www.shii.org/maids/yakui] has her name come from "Yakuji" (やくじ, "Medicine"). She is addicted to pharmaceuticals and is often pictured drooling or with a crazed look in her eye. One of the maids featured in the fighting game Nijikaku, one of her attacks involves transporting the opponent to a spinning, brightly and starkly yellow and purple striped world, leading one to believe that she experiences psychadelic hallucinations regularly. She has been known to give out advice on medicines to passerby in the drug store (noteably Homeo), though whether this was good or bad advice is subject to speculation. She is frequently seen donning handcuffs, due to her nature being dangerous. She also wears a light blue outfit with bob-cut purple hair.

====Yowai-san====
Yowai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=yowai] ("frail") is, like her namesake, fragile. She is near-constantly depicted with blood coming out of her mouth or nose, and is usually quite weak. She wears back-length black hair and a brown uniform, and a cross around her neck.

Kyuuki is a Maid character that is an odd combination of animal parts; She has paw-like hands and feet, a cat's tail, animal ears, and a pair of wings. Most of these are different colours than each other, and different colours than her skin. Other than that, she is seen sporting a pixie cut, a maid's outfit, and glasses.

Kyuuki is commonly shown harassing OSX-kun, with which she seems to have a fascination bordering on obsession (their encounters have run the gambit from friendly to near-molestation). Perhaps due to her cat tendencies, she might see in him a mate, but over half the time he is striving to get away from her, implying any sort of relationship is at best semi-consensual.

Kyuuki is a member of the Si-xiong, or Four Friends. It is a group of mythical creatures mentioned in Chinese Mythology, and the Nijiura group also consists of Konton, Toukotsu, and Toutetsu. The 4 (especially the first 3) are frequently pictured together in artwork.

===OS-tan Based Characters===

====Yamada-tan====

Yamada[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=yamada-san] began life as the candidate to be Windows 98. However, due to her common OL (Office Lady) appearance, she was rejected for being too plain. After the fall from grace, Yamada began her life as a Futaba character, taking up residence in comics with WE-tan, 2k-kun, Astaroth, Eigyouseki, 2k-kun, and Daiginjou. Like many older OS-tans, Yamada consistently wishes for a bigger chest, and otherwise lives the life of the average OL (reads manga on the train, occasionally does cute-yet-embarassing things, has dreams of marriage). She hails from Niigata Prefecture, and enjoys staying up late and watching TV.

Yamada's typical look is a blue skirted suit with white longsleeve button-up shirt and blue vest with the windows logo somewhere on it. Some pictures give her a piece of computer equipment (a hard drive, maybe?) wrapped around her hips like a belt. She has brown eyes and a slightly long bob cut for her brown hair. ====WE-tan====

Though some sources list WE-tan (aka Taeko) as simply an ME-tan fangirl, other sources credit her as being Windows Explorer-tan (this is the accepted form on OSC). As Explorer-tan, she is often overlooked in her abilities, being seen as simple and flighty like her idol, ME-tan. On the contrary, WE-tan is one of the harder workers at the office, often having to scold Yamada to get back to work. She shares an apartment with Yamada, Astaroth, and Spider Man.

WE's typical look is almost a bizzaro ME-tan; she dresses in pink and black, with an orange icon (a downward-pointing triangle with a question mark in it)on her chest. She keeps her long, pink hair in braids like ME-tan. She has also been shown in office attire similar to Yamada-tan.

====Pizza-tan & Pizza-kun====

Pizza-tan is a Futaba original character without much basis. Considering her style, though, one could claim she has 2k-tan for a basis. However, this is likely due to Pizza's personality as 2k's fangirl, following her around happily. Pizza sports a red bob cut, not unlike 2k's, and 2 strips of meat (they bear a resemblance to bacon in some way) where the cat ears would go on 2k. She also has a sprig of something directly at the top, perhaps imitating 2k's maid ruffle, but it looks to be the leaves/stem to a tomato (implied by her hair). She wears a yellow dress covered in pizza toppings, which varies depending on the depiction (most depictions of her are rather simplistic, so usually stick to one or two toppings placed evenly, usually pepperoni. The more detailed depictions, however, take a more realistic approach with multiple types of toppings overlapping), sometimes being a solid dress with long sleeves, sometimes being a dress with longsleeve coat, sometimes being a leotard with the coat. (Alternate outfits have also placed her in a yellow cheongsam and winter gear, depending on the context and the picture.) Pizza's personality is sort of a contradiction; while she is a typical little girl, running around and getting into trouble, when approached, she often gets shy. Both brother and sister both carry the same expression near constantly (something close to `v´ or `∀´), which has come across as cute, cold, and sinister all rolled into one, depending on the subtle nuances and the context of the picture. In some way, they could be implied to be Chinese, since Chinese characters are sometimes seen with closed-eye expressions in Anime and Manga. However, that is merely speculation, with no basis in the art's context.

Windows 8 is the current release of the Windows operating system, produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs. Development of Windows 8 started before the release of its predecessor in 2009. Its existence was first announced at CES 2011, and followed by the release of three pre-release versions from September 2011 to May 2012. The operating system was released to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was released for general availability on October 25, 2012, with upgrade disks and PCs available the following day.

There is much controversy over Windows 8, for its new Start Menu and added features are not welcomed by many, currently. Some have even called it "unfriendly" and "useless" on a desktop or laptop, and reviews of the OS are quite mixed.

Furthermore, in the Akihabara shopping district one can by a limited edition of these versions of Windows 8 DSP that include extra voices not contained in the regular Yu & Ai editions, as well as the Microsoft Wedge Mouse included will have an illustration on it of either Yu or Ai.

Though Yu & Ai are the mascots used in Windows 8, theyre not the only ones! There's not many but a few fan made ones have surfaced in the fandom, such as a few from our very own users in the Os-tan collection forums, as well as a comic strip that oddly depicted 8-tan as a film director.

Aya Madobe is an alternate (fan-made) OS-tan for Windows 8. She has brown hair, is about 5"8, and is somewhere between the ages of 18 & 20. She is often disliked by her peers, and her existence is unacknowledged by the [[Windows Family]], with one exception, that being her sister, [[Windows 7|Nanami Madobe]], who visits her from time to time, and enjoys spending time with her. Aya is always trying to impress other people, and likes to always add her own personal touch to things. She is often misunderstood, and is un-respected in her field when it comes to her line of work. When it comes to work she is usually creating office documents or doing assistant work, and is always wearing an ensemble of: A suit, skirt (adorning the Windows 8 logo), one of her many different colored ties (she owns 25 assorted colored ties in all), a charm bracelet, and black thigh high heeled boots. When it comes to her work her employers always seem to deem her unfit for certain task others in her position would find commonplace, and often hand such tasks off to other employees, despite her ability to complete the tasks. When she is not at work she is usually hanging out with some of her friends, [[Windows Azure|Claudia Madobe]], or Nanami, and is always wearing an ensemble of: Colored Pastel Shirt (She owns 25 assorted pastel colored shirts in all), a colored tie, a vest, a ruffled miniskirt (adorning a colored Windows 8 logo that matches her shirt color), black stockings, a charm bracelet, and thigh high zip up onyx black heeled platform boots. (note she always has a tie and charm bracelet). Side Note: Aya is fond of designer coffees, with one of her favorites being the Caramel Macchiato.

==Technical Details==
Windows 2000 is the successor to [[Windows NT]] 4.0, and the first widely-available NT-based Windows Distribution. It was aimed at the business sector and thus was widely used in offices and servers rather than homes. To make up for this, Microsoft released [[Windows ME]] around the same time, which was aimed at the home market, but ME's lack of stability meant that 2000 stayed around quite a bit longer. Indeed, the professional, sturdy OS was supported for 10 years, rather long given the lifecycle of some OSes. While it was initially the most secure OS that Microsoft had ever released, some ambitious individuals took this as a challenge, and as a result several hard-hitting viruses were created specifically to target it. While it was succeeded by [[XP-tan|Windows XP]] in 2001, Microsoft continued to release security patches for it until the end of its lifecycle in 2010.

Windows 2000 features upgrades to the GUI of NT, improved support for users with disabilities, encryption, improved system management tools, and several features present in the [[Windows 98]] line, such as Internet Tools (Outlook Express, IE 5, and others), and extended plug and play support.
Windows 2000 was supposed to be adapted into a home version, codenamed [[Neptune|Windows Neptune]]. Neptune saw the release of a few betas, but sadly never made it out of test lab, and it was eventually integrated into Whistler, which later became Windows XP.

2k-kun is a man in his late 20's to early 30's sporting a rounded blue haircut, blue-grey eyes, and metallic cat ears (albeit smaller than his sister). He is tall, and constantly seen in business attire of some sort. He is overall a calm, rational man, typically looking after his brothers and sisters with a sort of fatherly nature about him, not unlike [[95-kun]]. Though he can get angry, for the most part he doesn't, staying as a carefree, happy=go-lucky kind of guy.

2k-kun works in an office with some of his fellow -tans and kuns.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=243&pos=1] Like 95-kun, he likes drinking (though not as much as 95-kun), and often goes drinking after work with his coworkers (who are also some of his friends). Most of the people he hangs out with are from the [[Nijiura and Futaba Characters]], such as his best friend Eigyouseki[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10794] and close friend/love interest Daiginjou.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10804] It has been suggested that 2k might have some sort of romantic inkling for Inu-t (or at least thoughts about her), but this lacks ample evidence in that it has only been shown once.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-1187] 2k can also be seen hanging out with ME-kun, XP-kun, and Pizza-kun. (Just like with 2k-tan, 2k-kun has a close, special relationship with Pizza-kun. Unlike his sister and Pizza-tan, however, the relationship is less one of a fangirl and her idol and more of an office worker and his assistant. Pizza-kun also exhibits some degree of control over 2k-kun, in the way that 2k-kun seems to have some sort of crush on Pizza-kun. It might be slightly similar to the relationship between Momo and Sumire in ''Tramps Like Us''. It isn't known whether or not Pizza-kun works in the same office as 2k-kun, but given that Pizza-kun also always wears a suit, it's a possibility.)

2k-kun seems to enjoy spending time with his family, though perhaps due to his position in the office, doesn't seem to spend much time at home. Given 2k's assumed role of guardian of ME, he spends a bit more time with ME-kun than his other siblings (though he spends plenty of time with XP-kun, too). ME-kun is much more capable than his sister, however, so the extent of caring for him might just involve 2k bringing him to school on his way to work. Homeo is a small boy of about 12 or 13. He has long green hair, bound into a ponytail like his sister, and green eyes with glasses (also like his sister). He wears a key-shaped hairclip on one or both sides of his head. He is usually seen in shorts and a coat with long, long sleeves, but due to his penchant for cosplay, he isn't always shown this way.
Homeo loves to cosplay, specifically as female characters. Given his stature and hair length, he pulls off an extremely convincing trap, to the point where some people don't know he's a boy.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10280] [http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10236] This is likely influenced by his sister's excitement at his dressing up this way (though she has different ideas as to why), and his desire to become a woman. However, he only wants this so he can have a relationship with his sister; It is evident that the gender is not the issue here, just that they are two different genders.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10300] Part of his making a convincing trap is his personality; Homeo is a very sensitive young man, often doing things that make him uncomfortable just to make his sister or some of the other os-tans happy.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10250] Though Homeko seems to enjoy his cosplaying, it seems that there are some things about it that can make her upset, too.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-1648]

Homeo seems to have a romantic interest in his sister. Windows XP Home was released along side Windows XP Professional, and was aimed at home users specifically. As a result, Home lacks some of the features that Professional had, but still featured a host of new features such as an updated GUI, improved USB support, Driver Rollback, Remote Desktop, Faster Startup, Logon/Logoff and Hibernate Modes, improved system reliability, more games and accessories, and more. Service Packs were released for XP 3 times, starting on 9th September, 2002. These mainly put an emphasis on extra security, but also included other features, such as complete support for USB 2.0. With the Service Packs, however, came the need for greater hardware space, most notably an increase in RAM size. Despite this, XP proved to be so popular that support for it was extended to 2014.

Homeo is a small boy of about 12 or 13. He has long green hair, bound into a ponytail like his sister, and green eyes with glasses (also like his sister). Also known as XP Home-kun, Homeo is portrayed as a gender-confused boy who looks akin to his sister Homeko. He is typically shown wearing a key shaped hair-clip and an XP shaped necktie. Homeo is a transvestite and often cosplays as female characters, most commonly Kanaria from Rozen Maiden. He fancies 98-tan, and there have been numerous occasions when they have nearly gotten together.

Homeo is one of the more complicated characters in Troubled Windows, for a number of reasons. First off, he is one of the more sexually complicated characters. He desires to become a woman, but only to have a relationship with his sister, Homeko. He often cosplays as female characters, which appear to excite [[Homeko]]. Many zany, and often ecchi situations ensue. [[98-tan and 98SE-tan|98-tan]] (Hacchan) also loves Homeo, who returns her love to a degree. Hacchan often assumes a domination role over Homeo, with very unusual results. Their relationship is much to the chagrin of [[98-tan and 98SE-tan|98SE-tan]] (Secchan), who also likes Homeo. Secchan's preoccupation with castrating him with a bottle opener, however, complicates this situation.

Homeo is not truly gay in that he bears no liking of men, but desires to be a woman. This unusual sexual trait leads to some situations, many involving the love square between Hacchan, Secchan, Homeo, and Homeko.

==Technical Details==
Windows 2000 is the successor to [[Windows NT]] 4.0, and the first widely-available NT-based Windows Distribution. It was aimed at the business sector and thus was widely used in offices and servers rather than homes. To make up for this, Microsoft released [[Windows ME]] around the same time, which was aimed at the home market, but ME's lack of stability meant that 2000 stayed around quite a bit longer. Indeed, the professional, sturdy OS was supported for 10 years, rather long given the lifecycle of some OSes. While it was initially the most secure OS that Microsoft had ever released, some ambitious individuals took this as a challenge, and as a result several hard-hitting viruses were created specifically to target it. While it was succeeded by [[Windows XP]] in 2001, Microsoft continued to release security patches for it until the end of its lifecycle in 2010.
Windows 2000 features upgrades to the GUI of NT, improved support for users with disabilities, encryption, improved system management tools, and several features present in the [[Windows 98]] line, such as Internet Tools (Outlook Express, IE 5, and others), and extended plug and play support.
Windows 2000 was supposed to be adapted into a home version, codenamed [[Windows Neptune]]. Neptune saw the release of a few betas, but sadly never made it out of test lab, and it was eventually intergrated into Whistler, which later became Windows XP.

==Character Details==
2k-kun is a man in his late 20's to early 30's sporting a rounded blue haircut, blue-grey eyes, and metallic cat ears (albeit smaller than his sister). He is tall, and constantly seen in business attire of some sort. He is overall a calm, rational man, typically looking after his brothers and sisters with a sort of fatherly nature about him, not unlike [[95-kun]]. Though he can get angry, for the most part he doesn't, staying as a carefree, happy=go-lucky kind of guy.

2k-kun works in an office with some of his fellow -tans and kuns.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=243&pos=1] Like 95-kun, he likes drinking (though not as much as 95-kun), and often goes drinking after work with his coworkers (who are also some of his friends). Most of the people he hangs out with are from the [[Nijiura and Futaba Characters]], such as his best friend Eigyouseki[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10794] and close friend/love interest Daiginjou.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10804] He can also be seen hanging out with ME-kun, XP-kun, and Pizza-kun. (Just like with 2k-tan, 2k-kun has a close, special relationship with Pizza-kun. Unlike his sister and Pizza-tan, however, the relationship is less one of a fangirl and her idol and more of an office worker and his assistant. Pizza-kun also exhibits some degree of control over 2k-kun, in the way that 2k-kun seems to have some sort of crush on Pizza-kun. It might be slightly similar to the relationship between Momo and Sumire in ''Tramps Like Us''. It isn't known whether or not Pizza-kun works in the same office as 2k-kun, but given that Pizza-kun also always wears a suit, it's a possibility.)

2k-kun seems to enjoy spending time with his family, though perhaps due to his position in the office, doesn't seem to spend much time at home. Despite this, he is often shown doing the activities we might see an adult older brother doing for kid siblings (such as playing santa on christmas eve[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-3817]), and seems to get along well with his older siblings. Given 2k's assumed role of guardian of ME, he spends a bit more time with ME-kun than his other siblings (though he spends plenty of time with XP-kun, too). ME-kun is much more capable than his sister, however, so the extent of caring for him might just involve 2k bringing him to school on his way to work. Nijiura and Futaba Characters

Nijiura (aka 2ch, 2chan or 2channel), the image boards of Futaba Channel, are a Japanese website where various Japanese net characters have been born. The OS-tans were spawned on Futaba on August 6th, 2003, though they aren't the only net characters out there, and often interact with the various other characters this site has created. This is a list of the characters and basic information about them.

===The Random Residents of Futaba===
The OS-tans interact with a host of random characters, and certain ones interact with certian others more. Some, like Toshiaki, are common across the board.

====Toshiaki (としあき)====

The origin of the moniker "Toshiaki" comes from an incident in the early days of Nijiura. Like 4chan, both boards by default list no name, and most users don't list one (instead opting for the tag of "Nameless" ("名無し")). In these early days, a particularlly insistant, trollish poster harassed the posters into copying his name, "Toshiaki". This sparked the operators into changing the default name to "Toshiaki" (prior there was no default name, resulting in the "Nameless" moniker being posted by default). Over time, however, some boards removed this tag and the "Nameless" tag entirely, resulting in all anons being listed as "「」" (pronunced "Kakkou", translated as "Brackets"). Toshiaki, though originally just the name for a random anon, eventually turned into the User character of the OS-tans. "-aki" is actually a suffix, and has been attached to others, such as ME-aki, the credited creator of ME-tan, the first OS-tan.

Toshiaki the character is generally depicted as a college-age man with shaggy, short brown hair. He lives alone in an apartment (apart from sharing his space with his OS-tans), and not much is known or described about him. he is generally patient with his computers, willing to forgive the freezes or crashes of ME-tan without much frustration. It has been hinted that he likes Megannekos ('Glasses Girls'). He may or may not be depicted with eyes, and sometimes is depicted with glasses. A default name (name used when nothing else is entered) on certain boards on Futaba, Kakkou (which translates literally to "Brackets") also commonly shows up in OS-tan artwork, with the brackets replacing the facial features of an anonymous person. The Brackets originated when the use of "Toshiaki" as a default forum name was dropped, but since the newer boards have picked up "Toshiaki" as an anon name again, both are used in the forum's moniker.

====Akachouchin and Daiginjou====

Akachouchin is a girl often seen with 95-kun. Akachouchin is based off of the character Shinku from the Anime/Manga series ''Rozen Maiden''. A Chouchin is a type of paper lantern, while Aka means red, so the character is a silver-haired girl with a red headdress with red paper lanterns on the sides. Perhaps this is is a sign of the Red Light District, which might coorespond to Akachouchin's frequent inebriation. 95-kun is more often depicted with Akachouchin, who is usually depicted with some sort of container, as it is said that Akachouchin is excellent at making sake (though it is in the kuchikami way of chewing the ingredients and then spitting them into the pot to ferment). Daiginjou is a woman often seen with 95-tan. Daiginjou is derived from Suigintou and Kun-kun, both from the ''Rozen Maiden'' series. Like Akachouchin, Daiginjou is often associated with alcohol, but instead of making it, she serves it as a bartender. She is a tall, reubenesque blonde woman with brown dog ears under a small maid ruffle, flanked by red paper lanterns. Her hair varies in length depending on the picture, some depicting it in a slightly shorter cut than 2k-tan, some depicting it longer than 95's. She is a frequent companion of 95-tan and Kiri-san, the three seeming to be drinking buddies. Daiginjou has also been shown to hang out with 2k-kun and Eigyouseki after work. A lone comic[http://www.otakubell.com/os-girls/Gallery/picture.php?/465/category/7] has implied that there might be a romantic relationship between 2k-kun and Daiginjou.

====Kiri-san (霧さん)====

Kiri-san is a tall, buxom woman with long silvery-blue hair, small half-rim glasses and yellow eyes. She is based off the popular character Kotonomiya Yuki(琴乃宮雪), from the cult classic hentai visual novel Suigetsu. Though she, like her base character, is a maid, she is frequently pictured in various outfits, though her maid's uniform is brown and white. Her younger sister, Yukiko-san, is based off of the same character, though Yukiko's hair is about the length of 2k-tan's, and her eyes are red. Yukiko-san seems to appear significantly less than her older sister. Kiri-san worries about her. Kiri-san is older than most other net characters, so she is frequently seen hanging out with 2 characters her own age, 95-tan and Daiginjou (95-tan especially; the two seem to be best friends by all the artwork of them).

====Eigyouseki====

Eigyouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1265397867203.jpg][http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=eigyouseki] is a short man with an odd, almost frog or cat-shaped green hat (similar to Finn's from Adventure Time) that he wears all the time. He works in the same office as Yamada, WE-tan, and 2k-kun, and is a member of the circle of friends in that respect. He can be seen commuting to work with 2k-kun, occasionally working overtime, and going out for drinks with his friends (which sometimes includes Daiginjou and the others). Overall, his personality is very kind, though nervous when talking to others. One could say he relies on 2k-kun to be his wing man when talking to new folks. He has a crush on Daiginjou, which may or may not fuel a rivalry with 2k-kun.

He has a plain, soft face with small features (including a set of beady-yet-cute eyes) and brown hair, which can often be seen sticking out from underneath the hat. It's uncommon to see him out of office wear. Additionally, he and Jissouseki[http://desuchan.net/nij/src/1263274673614.png] look quite similar, as both were based on a super-deformed version of the ''Rozen Maiden'' character Suiseiseki (Jissouseki being more similar to the base in appearance; Eigyouseki is said to be the "Office Mutation").

Shitsuji-kun is a Satyr, technically. However, contrary to what's expected of the species, Shitsuji-kun is calm, polite, and actually quite shy. Perhaps this is due to his name being a play on the words "Sheep" ("Hitsuji") and "Butler" ("Shitsuji"). He dresses formally, and usually behaves in a shy manner. His large, furry sheep legs almost act as a sort of bloomers (and they sometimes are, depending on the rendition), but after that he only wears a shirt, vest, and bowtie or collar. His hair is short yet shaggy, with a slight wave to it, and is somewhere between blonde and silver in colour. He has a crush on Inu-t, who seems to somewhat return his feelings, though is rather oblivious. A chibi character based off of the Suigetsu character Yamato Suzuran, Waha was one of the first Futaba characters, alongside Heika[http://shii.org/knows/Futaba_Channel#Futaba_characters] (both were made in early 2003, before ME-tan). Waha got her basis from Suzuran's common exclamation of "Waha!", which Futaba took kindly to, making Waha a seperate character. Waha is done up in extreme chibi style, having a head-to-body ratio of about 2 or 3, with little nubbly limbs and a near constant expression of ^__^ or ＾∇＾. Her clothing consists of a small pair of black shorts, a white shirt with red and white striped sleeves, and a tan bandana over short brown hair. Waha's popularity has inspired flash games, animations, and spin-offs with people or characters imitating her classic Waha pose.

Waha has an older sister, Musu, who is depicted as older, taller, and wearing blue (vs. Waha's red). Musu, like Waha, is based off of Yamato Suzuran.

Waha also has a 'pet human' named Choia. A Futaba Original, her basis is unclear, with some sources saying she is another Suzuran derivitave. She is almost always naked save for a red collar, and has purpleish-grey hair in a long, low ponytail, with a very prominent ahoge (comparable to ME-tan's).

====Astaroth====

Astaroth is a curvy, blue-skinned demon girl with large, black, slightly curved horns, long blue hair, and yellow eyes. (Occasionally, she has wings.) She is a character from a TCG (Trading Card Game) called Shinrabanshou, which is packaged with candy or chocolate and sold by Bandai. Astaroth is the most well-known character of the game.

In her downtime, she enjoys wearing tshirts with offensive or bizarre slogans and lives in an apartment with Yamada-tan, WE-tan and Spider Man. Astaroth seems laid back, or somewhat clueless of the society around her. While there was more art of her with the OS-tans in the past, it seems to be harder to come by now. In the past, the -tans she was mostly pictured with included Yamada-tan, WE-tan, 95-tan, and perhaps 2k-tan.

====Yabai====

Yabai, while not technically one of the Nijiura Maids, is a maid that was created on Nijiura. She's a Harpy based off the Snowy Owl, after an anon posted a couple panels of ''Jagan wa Gachirin ni Tobu'' to the Guro board and it became popular.

====Shippai====
In the same catagory as Yabai as a sort of "bonus maid", Shippai is not one of the official "Nijiura Maids", but is a maid from Nijiura. She can be easily recgonized by her straight brown hair (no bangs, bob cut), creepy snickering expression, flat nose, and buck teeth. Shippai is regarded as obnoxious due to her malicious spreading of hurtful gossip, without much regard to others' feelings. This has garnered her a low reputation in the Futaba community, with her presence being somewhat looked down upon by others. It is unclear if she even lives up to her duties as a maid, instead being more interested in the latest scoop. ====Kiai(きあい)====

Another random maid. Taking her name from "Kiai"(きあい, "Fighting Spirit"), Kiai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=kiai] is a very active tomboyish kind of girl, taking her design from Capcom characters Kasugano Sakura (''Street Fighter'') and Wakaba Hinata (''Rival Schools: United by Fate''). She seems to be a fighter, judging by her dress (sports bra, biking shorts, wrist weights, and maid's ruffle atop short brown hair with trailing headband in back). With this in mind, she seems to get along with XP-kun, suggesting they might train together (her wrist weights also sport the same colour scheme as XP-kun's cuffs). ====Inu/Inui====
Inu[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:Astaroth_and_inu.jpg] and Inui[http://ostan-collections.net/wiki/File:2k_inui_ce_chikoi_3m_chinese.jpg] are an oddity among the Futaba Characters. Though Inui has been described as a maid, she is rarely seen wearing any maid's attire or any clothes at all outside of Inu-T's collar. Both are derivitaves of Inu-T (hence the collar), and are long, blue forms with black, beady eyes as their only facial features (Inui is sometimes pictured with Inu-T's ears and bow). They appear as background characters in quite a few OS-tan and Nijiura/Futaba pictures, sometimes more than one of them at a time. Not much else is known about them. Born out of an Anon's Thought about having a cute maid, the Nijiura Maids are a group of Maids with odd personalities or physical characteristics. They are sometimes shown with the OS-tans. Each one of their names is a pun, which started with the first maid, Medoi. Her name is a pun on "Meido", the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid". "Medoi" is also a slang term for "Bother", so Medoi thinks everything is troublesome.

Her teeny-tiny stature leads to much abuse by Toshiaki, though whether or not this is intentional is unexplained. Due to her size, she hangs out with CE-tan most often, though she also hangs out with the net characters[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/325655/astaroth_-shinrabanshou-black_sclera-blue_hair-blu] Makibishi (the small, grey, pointy one) and Mobiko (the small green one in the chef's hat). Chikoi has short blue hair and an orange maid's uniform.

====Dorei-san====
Dorei[http://desuchan.net/nij/res/81.html] is a slave. She is stoic about her plight, never showing much emotion. The most obvious "joke" here is that she is the only dark-skinned maid. She exhibits great strength, possibly gained from being shackled to large weights constantly. She hangs around with Shitai-san and Yakui-san frequently. Her uniform is tattered at the bottom, and varies in colour, usually sticking to a dirty olive green.

====Hidoi-san====
Hidoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/hidoi] (ひどい, Awful), is terrible at everything she does. Like ME-tan, she tries quite hard, but sadly she ends up failing even more than the Freeze Master herself. She is especially terrible at cooking, and is often subjected to abuse due to her uselessness. To add insult to injury, she also frequently experiences bad luck. She has brown hair held back in a pair of twintails, and a light greyish-blue outfit.

====Inai-san====
Inai[http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=inai] ("not here") is an invisible maid. Typically she's depicted in pictures as a bowl of food with no one at it, or a shadow. When she DOES appear, she has long black hair and a green camo maid's uniform.

====Kudoi-san====
Kudoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/kudoi] takes her name from "Kudoi" (くどい, "Verbose"). She is a chatterbox, often filling up the page with meaningless prattle. Despite this, she's very sweet. She keeps her orange hair tied up in a ponytail, and her outfit is pink. Her birthday is the 11th of October.

Kurai[http://www.shii.org/maids/kurai] gets her name from "Kurai" (暗い or くらい, "Gloomy") or "Kuro" (黒, "Black"). Her outlook on life is grim, and she sometimes dresses in Gothic-Lolita style. Everything confuses her and she frequently gets lost. She wears a black outfit with bandages on the upper parts of the sleeves, and short red hair.

====Medoi-san====
Medoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/medoi] was the first of the maids, her name being a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Maid", "Meido". "Medoi also happens to be slang for "Bother" or "Troublesome", leading her personality to be apathetic as she thinks everything is a burden. In some instances, she seems to be Toshiaki's personal Maid. She has a pet cat, also named "Medoi". Her maid outfit is a greyish brown, and her birthday is April 21st, 2004.

====Modoi-san====
Modoi[http://www.shii.org/maids/modoi] takes her name from "Modokashii" (もどかしい, "Feeling Impatient"). As a result, she is extremely impatient and easily agitated. She gets little work done because she doesn't have the patience for it. Her outfit is blue, and her birthday is the 18th of July.

====Nemui-san====
Nemui[http://www.shii.org/maids/nemui] takes her name from "Nemui" (眠い or ねむい, "Sleepy") or "Nemuri" ("To Sleep"). She is sleepy constantly and carries a pillow with her everywhere in case of an accidental nap. She seems to suffer from narcolepsy, though the naps she takes doesn't aleviate her tiredness at all. She wears a deep brown outfit, matching her shoulder-length brown hair. She also wears glasses.

====Shibai-san====
Shibai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shibai] is an actress maid who wears makeup, unlike the other maids. She wears a red and gold Cheongsam under her apron, and keeps her sea-green hair cropped into a bob cut. Not much information could be found on her.

====Shitai-san====
Shitai[http://www.shii.org/maids/shitai], from "Shitai" (死体 or したい, "Corpse") and the phrase "Shitai" (したい, "I want to Do It"), is a very lewd corpse. Unlike some other net characters that have been seen, she is NOT a zombie; she is a fully dead, immobile, unsentient corpse. Her skin has turned to a sickly ashen blue, but despite this, she manages to stay pretty. She sports long emerald-green hair and a dark orange maid outfit, which due to "uneartly spirits", always seems to be pushed up, revealing her panties in some way. This, combined with her "behavior" (whatever the behavior of a corpse can be called) has earned her a reputation as a bit of a nymphomaniac. She is often seen in the company of one or more other maids, usually being dragged around in some way.

====Usai-san====
Usai[http://www.shii.org/maids/usai] gets her name from Usagi (兎 or うさぎ, "Rabbit") and "Urusai" (ウルサイ, "Shut Up!"). She is a bunny girl who only wants peace and quiet, but never gets her message across properly. Instead of saying "Urusai", it comes out "Usai" ("Shup!"), meaning no one takes her seriously. She wears a bright blue outfit (matching the bunny ear headband she has) and sports long, blonde hair, and a clock necklace.

====Yakui-san====
Yakui[http://www.shii.org/maids/yakui] has her name come from "Yakuji" (やくじ, "Medicine"). She is addicted to pharmaceuticals and is often pictured drooling or with a crazed look in her eye. One of the maids featured in the fighting game Nijikaku, one of her attacks involves transporting the opponent to a spinning, brightly and starkly yellow and purple striped world, leading one to believe that she experiences psychadelic hallucinations regularly. She has been known to give out advice on medicines to passerby in the drug store (noteably Homeo), though whether this was good or bad advice is subject to speculation. She is frequently seen donning handcuffs, due to her nature being dangerous. She also wears a light blue outfit with bob-cut purple hair.

====Yowai-san====

Kyuuki is a Maid character that is an odd combination of animal parts; She has paw-like hands and feet, a cat's tail, animal ears, and a pair of wings. Most of these are different colours than each other, and different colours than her skin. Other than that, she is seen sporting a pixie cut, a maid's outfit, and glasses.

Kyuuki is commonly shown harassing OSX-kun, with which she seems to have a fascination bordering on obsession (their encounters have run the gambit from friendly to near-molestation). Perhaps due to her cat tendencies, she might see in him a mate, but over half the time he is striving to get away from her, implying any sort of relationship is at best semi-consensual.

Kyuuki is a member of the Si-xiong, or Four Friends. It is a group of mythical creatures mentioned in Chinese Mythology, and the Nijiura group also consists of Konton, Toukotsu, and Toutetsu. The 4 (especially the first 3) are frequently pictured together in artwork.

====Yamada-tan====

However, due to her common OL (Office Lady) appearance, she was rejected for being too plain. After the fall from grace, Yamada began her life as a Futaba character, taking up residence in comics with WE-tan, 2k-kun, Astaroth, Eigyouseki, 2k-kun, and Daiginjou. Like many older OS-tans, Yamada consistently wishes for a bigger chest, and otherwise lives the life of the average OL (reads manga on the train, occasionally does cute-yet-embarassing things, has dreams of marriage). She hails from Niigata Prefecture, and enjoys staying up late and watching TV.

Yamada's typical look is a blue skirted suit with white longsleeve button-up shirt and blue vest with the windows logo somewhere on it. Some pictures give her a piece of computer equipment (a hard drive, maybe?) wrapped around her hips like a belt. She has brown eyes and a slightly long bob cut for her brown hair. ====WE-tan====

Though some sources list WE-tan (aka Taeko) as simply an ME-tan fangirl, other sources credit her as being Windows Explorer-tan (this is the accepted form on OSC). As Explorer-tan, she is often overlooked in her abilities, being seen as simple and flighty like her idol, ME-tan. On the contrary, WE-tan is one of the harder workers at the office, often having to scold Yamada to get back to work. She shares an apartment with Yamada, Astaroth, and Spider Man.

WE's typical look is almost a bizzaro ME-tan; she dresses in pink and black, with an orange icon (a downward-pointing triangle with a question mark in it)on her chest. She keeps her long, pink hair in braids like ME-tan. She has also been shown in office attire similar to Yamada-tan.

====Pizza-tan & Pizza-kun====

Pizza-tan is a Futaba original character without much basis. Considering her style, though, one could claim she has 2k-tan for a basis. However, this is likely due to Pizza's personality as 2k's fangirl, following her around happily. Pizza sports a red bob cut, not unlike 2k's, and 2 strips of meat (they bear a resemblance to bacon in some way) where the cat ears would go on 2k. She also has a sprig of something directly at the top, perhaps imitating 2k's maid ruffle, but it looks to be the leaves/stem to a tomato (implied by her hair). She wears a yellow dress covered in pizza toppings, which varies depending on the depiction (most depictions of her are rather simplistic, so usually stick to one or two toppings placed evenly, usually pepperoni. The more detailed depictions, however, take a more realistic approach with multiple types of toppings overlapping), sometimes being a solid dress with long sleeves, sometimes being a dress with longsleeve coat, sometimes being a leotard with the coat. (Alternate outfits have also placed her in a yellow cheongsam and winter gear, depending on the context and the picture.) Pizza's personality is sort of a contradiction; while she is a typical little girl, running around and getting into trouble, when approached, she often gets shy. (What evidence IS there, though, is quite shocking and could imply an undertone of malicious intent towards her relationship with 2k-tan, given that 2k-tan loves XP-kun, too. The majority of the pictures of the two show Pizza-kun as an assistant of sorts to 2k-kun, implying that he might also work in the office. However, lone pictures of Pizza-kun run the gambit from professional to downright nymphomaniac. He seems to be effeminate, though cold, usually keeping a very calm, serene demeanor. Unlike his sister, he is not prone to outbursts of physical activity (no DONs or "Pyaaaa"s), this likely being due to his age compared to hers (young adult vs young child). With this in mind, he keeps up a very professional public demeanor, though is fine with letting it all hang out in private. Like 2k-kun, he is sometimes seen sporting a matching cape, though this is more common to Pizza-kun than 2k-kun.

Both brother and sister both carry the same expression near constantly (something close to `v´ or `∀´), which has come across as cute, cold, and sinister all rolled into one, depending on the subtle nuances and the context of the picture. In some way, they could be implied to be Chinese, since Chinese characters are sometimes seen with closed-eye expressions in Anime and Manga. However, that is merely speculation, with no basis in the art's context.

ME was intended as the successor to [[Windows 98]], aimed at Home Users. It was the last of the DOS lineage and featured newer software, including the new addition, Windows Movie Maker. ME-kun is a mischievous schoolboy around 12-14 years of age. Despite his youth, he is more mature than some of his older brothers or sisters, often being helpful, calm, and rational. He mostly is seen doing academic pursuits or hanging around with Homeo or sometimes Kyourou, 2k-kun, XP-kun and ME-tan. Occasionally he plays pranks, but mostly just goes about his business, sometimes making life hard for 2k-kun (not often).[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-7918] It is not known where he goes to school, though it has been suggested it is a local college (given his age, this might suggest that he exhibits some of the better qualities ME had to offer).
ME-kun is very protective of his sister, sometimes going so far as to save her from herself, or to get in the way of her and Kyourou-kun's relationship under the guise of being an overprotective brother. He watches over her closely, sometimes even more closely than 2k-tan.

ME was intended as the successor to [[Windows 98]], aimed at Home Users. It was the last of the DOS lineage and featured newer software, including the new addition, Windows Movie Maker. OSX takes its roots from Steve Jobs' company NeXT, which created the core of OSX, NeXTSTEP, in 1989. After Apple's buyout of NeXT in 1996, Jobs returned to the company as CEO and eventually shaped their new OS, OSX. The Unix basis makes the OS very stable and upgrades easy. Compared to OS9, the interface recieved significant visual upgrades, and additional bundled software (such as an onboard coding application) were included, along with little features such as spelling and grammar checkers across the board. Since the initial release, there have been minor upgrades with each release, but backwards compatibility does not seem to be a priority, meaning that though most versions use Powermac PCs, upgrading an older Powermac to the current standards can be difficult if at all possible.

OSX-kun is a young boy (of roughly 12 or 13) with blonde hair and blueish eyes. Like the other OSX-kuns, he has some cat traits, such as the ears, tail, and also typically doesn't wear a shirt (though it's not that he doesn't want one[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-9906]). He typically dons a loincloth of some animal pattern (usually matching his ears and tail) and occasionally has wraps on his hands or feet. He also wears an apple-shaped eyepatch like others of the OSX line, and a cape or scarf.

He is usually seen in the company of Sonata-tan, who dotes on him like a mother, usually seen holding or hugging him. When he is not with her he is also seen in the company of the other OSX-kuns, Homeo, and occasionally Kyourou or ME-kun. He also spends a good deal of time with Kyuuki, one of the [[Nijiura and Futaba Characters]], though whether this is by choice is up for speculation.[http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-10107]

OSX by nature is an innocent kid, typically finding himself in situations he didn't sign up for, or being coddled by his older sisters. As a result, he doesn't say or do much, typically being eye candy or comic relief when the situation calls for it. It seems that when he does act on his own, however, he has a slightly mischievous spirit, though it's not out of malice. He seems naive to certain situations, and can have a slightly effeminate air, despite trying to be a tough guy like his brothers. It could be comparable to a kitten trying to act scary. As a result, he is something of a fan-favourite for art sometimes, given that he's just rather adorable (one could say he's like the Mac's answer to Homeo; perhaps that's why they spend time together).

When depicted out of his armour, he is usually either in a t-shirt similar to that of [[OS9-kun]], or a long sleeve black shirt, with plain pants. He is sometimes shown wearing "98" earring(s) in one or both ears, similar to the logo on his armour. He is also sometimes shown having a "98" tattoo on his left shoulder, in the same size and shape as the logo on his armour. He is laid-back, but with a more serious nature than most of the OS-tans/-kuns, as if he holds a sense of responsibility for his siblings. With this, he is usually the one either keeping the peace or looking after his sisters and brother, keeping a calm demeanor even when his sisters are upset or his brother is all over him. 98-kun's armour has been rumoured to have been based on Kamen Rider, with both he and his brother donning mech-like suits with "98" and "SE" logos and long scarves, occasionally riding motorcycles or fighting crime (or giant monsters). This could be simply a personality quirk, or it could have to do with protecting their sisters and family (or it could even be a holdover from the [[OS-tan Wars]]). One story in the canon is that masked 98 would fight masked SE as his rival, only to find that after he's defeated SE, he takes off the mask and finds the face of his long-lost brother (and then they embrace, manly tears, etc etc). ME-tan has been shown in one comic to have donned her own Kamen Rider outfit, but overall 98-kun and [[98SE-kun]] are the only ones who wear them on a regular basis. Perhaps to tie the 4 siblings together, the colour schemes for the suits are opposite to the 98-tans' boxes.

Windows 95 can trace its roots back to March 1992, right after the release of Windows 3.1. Microsoft was stil developing Windows for Workgroups 3.1 and Windows NT 3.1, with their future sights set on the Cairo Operating System. However, Cairo was not expected to release for another two years, and in the meantime Microsoft realized that in order to keep competing, they needed an OS that could handle 32-bit capabiities and preemptive multitasking while still running on low-end hardware (Windows NT could not). Thus, the 'Chicago' project was born, being expected for a late 93' release, becoming known as Windows 93. Windows 93 would eventually ship with MSDOS 7.0, offering a more intergrated experience, but the Chicago Project continued on. Released at the same time was 'Cougar', a 32-bit shell for MSDOS; Cougar would go on to become the kernel of Chicago.

95 was released to great approval, quickly dominating the computer market. Part of this reason was the campaign to promote it by Microsoft; A commercial featuring the Rolling Stones' song ''"Start Me Up"'' and a 30-minute promo video (a 'Cyber Sitcom' as it was called) featuring Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry were just part of the advertising. In addition, several new features made 95 much easier to use for those new to computers, such as the Taskbar, Start Button and Menu, Longer Filenames, and Multitasking. 95 was also the first Microsoft OS to be a standalone, more than merely a graphical shell for DOS. Despite this, the 32-bit kernel, and the incompatibility of 95 with 16-bit processors, a good amount of code left over (mainly for the user interface) was still 16-bit.

95 was normally offered on a CD-ROM, though the inital release was also offered on 13 3.5" floppy disks, suitable for older machines(though with added features removed). The later releases doubled this to 26 disks, and Plus! was also adapted for floppies. Though uncommon, a 5.25" floppy disk set for installation could be special-ordered.
