My favorite video games are usually fighting games (although I'm not that good at them) out of the ones I've played my favorite is probably either Street Fighter II or Super Street Fighter II.  After playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, I'm super-psyched for Street Fighter IV.

My favorite adventure game is probably Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2.  The LoK games have what is quite possibly the most compelling story I've encountered in a video game.

Honorable mentions:  Galaga, Shining Force, WWF No Mercy, Elder Scrolls (series), Metal Gear Solid (series), Tekken 3, and Ratchet & Clank (series).

yeah soul reaver did have a very compelling story, tho I never got to the third one tho

Played the Indigo Prophecy recently.. that was quite the interesting game, more like watcching a movie, but it was pretty intense none the less

oh and Left 4 Dead is currently pretty high on my list, but I love zombies.

Well LoK:Defiance is interesting because if you haven't tried the Blood Omen games it'll be your first chance to try playing as Kain.  You get to play as Raziel as well, but it's one of those games where you only play certain parts with a particular character.  I won't spoil the story for you, but it's definitely worth playing through when you get the chance.  A lot of loose ends are nicely tied in the story of Defiance.

I've heard about Indigo Prophecy, but it's one those games I'm a little iffy about.

Gyah, I can't wait to try Left 4 Dead.  Stubbs The Zombie is the only other game to fulfill my fantasy of leading a zombie horde, and I really need a fix for that urge >__<.

EDIT: Forgot to mention one of my all-time faves, Deception III: Dark Delusion.  It was the first M-rated game I ever owned, which may not seem like that big a deal (I had played other M games before like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil), but the story for the game was very morbid and left quite an impression on me.  Sadly some bastard must've ganked it because I no longer have it -__-.  However I do have TЯAPT on the PS2, which I find is not nearly as fun or as immersive as DIII, but it works as a good substitute (you can even get an alternate outfit that resembles the one worn in DIII).

My favorites games are:

Missile Command and its variants: It's a simple but addictive game- SHOOT THE MISSLES THAT ARE OUT TO NUKE YOUR CITIES!! I am currently addicted to these games.

The Sims: I used to be addicted to this as well. There's just something about the Sims and its spinoffs that I really like.

Snood: I used to be addicted to this too! A clone of the game "Bust A Move", I like this game because of its simple but addictive gameplay and for the unique-looking characters.

Spectre: I remember this game from my childhood and I am so happy to be able to play it again! This game is a first-person shooter, the player drives in some sort of a tank to collect flags and shoot at the enemy tanks.

Sim City 2000: I haven't played it in a long time but I still remember this game from my childhood and still remains as one of my favorites though I never was good at it!

Sim Tower: I also haven't played this game in a long time but it's a Sim game where you manage a hotel. I'm not too shabby at this game. It's still one of my favorites.

Mario Kart: A racing game series I can actually like! This may sound crazy but Rainbow Road is my favorite level in each of the games! (well... except for in Mario Kart Super Circuit :-/ )

Pole Position: The other racing game I like!

Number Munchers: Okay so I haven't played it since grade school but it is such a fun game!

Dance Dance Revolution: I like the music and that I am able to dance without making a complete *** out of myself! :D

SimTower... Cool, but not as cool as SimCity...
The Sims.... Awesome, because i like interior decorating and architecture...

ps2: .hack quartet (infection, mutation, outbreak, and quarantine), disgaea: hour of darkness, we♥katamari, harvest moon, stretch panic, anything one piece (would say naruto too but can't afford them ;_; ) gta 3 and vice city, KH1 (never played 2), i'm sure i'm forgetting some...>_<

ps1: ff7, chrono trigger, thousand arms, frogger, uhm can't remember any more ^^;

game boy: basically any pokemon game, (much love to the originals! WHOO! ) ppg games, there was this game my old friend had called laura.....it was like a megablox game or something.

Okay, after some thinking I decided I left out a pretty crucial game the first time around, so here's a revised list:

Bard's Tale I & II, Street Fighter II, Galaga, Legend of Zelda, Super Street Fighter II, Sonic Spinball, Shining Force, WWF No Mercy, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Deception III: Dark Delusion, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto IV, Legacy of Kain (series), Elder Scrolls (series), Super Smash Bros. (series), Metal Gear Solid (series), Tekken 3, and Ratchet & Clank (series).

Well, in GTA i do like to go on a killing spree to get max cops and then jump from a really tall building with guns blasting, but that's more when i get bored and want to kill my character in a cool way...
The killing in GTA doesn't really float my boat and is definately not the main reason i play it...

dont get me wrong, I love GTA. I cant say how much time ive spent playing GTA 4, but make no mistake, I never once went on a innocent/cop killing rampage. The only time cops died is when it was required for the mission. Hell, the game is alot easier to play when you play it like that, cus you dont have a constant wave of police after you causing you problems.

QuoteThe killing in GTA doesn't really float my boat and is definately not the main reason i play it...

For me it's not about killing cops either, although that seems to be the case for a lot of people I've discussed GTA with.

GTA III and IV are probably my faves in the series largely because of their setting, but it's also because they were each innovators at the time of their release.  While Vice City introduced a good deal of new features and was inspired by two of my all-time favorite movies (Scarface and Carlito's Way), just didn't quite capture the same gritty feeling I had playing GTA III for the first time.  I can't say anything about San Andreas because I haven't played it yet, but GTA IV was awesome.  While it didn't give me the same feeling as GTA III, GTA IV was a helluva story.  I mean, GTA IV had a really eclectic cast of characters each with fairly interesting origins (with the possible exception of Brucie, who is often more of a pest than anything else >__<).  Anyway, all that aside, I still do indulge in the occasional killing spree in GTA.  Often I'm just trying to see how much "I" the AI has, and how high of a wanted level I can attain and still be able to escape (or in the case of a six star wanted rating, how long I can survive).  My preferred method for sprees involve finding a nice perch and sniping until I get the law's attention.  Blowing shit up is also fun, but it causes things to escalate far too quickly.  Anyway, I never save after such escapades because they usually end with me being caught or dying, and I prefer to keep my weapons/money.

Quotedont get me wrong, I love GTA. I cant say how much time ive spent playing GTA 4, but make no mistake, I never once went on a innocent/cop killing rampage. Refer to above, I'd say most people are goofing off when doing such things (that is, not something they're likely to save).  Generally it's something I do when incredibly bored and/or encountered with an extremely frustrating mission (like the Bank Heist >__<).  During normal gameplay I try my best to avoid law enforcement (which is pretty difficult if you ever find yourself taking a friend out for a drink).

True, so true... Most of my killings in GTA are traffic accidents...

As for GTA IV, as far as i know it's not released for the PC, so it'll be a while before i'll play that... And GTA San Andreas is worth a try, it has a really huge world and also the missions don't bore that fast...

Heh, dispite how people play him niko is prolly my favorite GTA character because he seems to have a concious and moral. I play him like his character is depicted, someone that doesnt like all the killing, but has to do it to survive.

as for the AI.. the AI is usually retarded. If you steal a helicopter and get a wanted rating, you can just hover off shore and police cruisers will just keep driving into the water.  how intelligent is that?  Id love to see one of those games where they put more effort into the AI, actually made them act like real cops, rather then a bunch of random cop bots all converging on the same spot. Game difficulty would go through the roof if you had to fight police that acted as a unit, used cover, etc..

Added after 3 minutes:

bah, I disliked san andreas. I disliked the whole theam to it. The others all have a mob war feel to them. If you like mafia movies they are interesting.  San Andreas puts you in the shoes of some gang banger punk on the streets of an LA knock off. No interest in that. I hate rap movies or games that make acting like as shit head seem cool. At least mobsters are professional.

QuoteTrue, so true... Most of my killings in GTA are traffic accidents...

Well, I wasn't actually referring to traffic accidents.  One of the cool things about GTA IV is that once you get some friends (in game, not online) you can actually hang out with them.  One of the more interesting (or annoying) things you can do is actually go get hammered with them.  Realistically, this produces a big problem for your motor skills (you actually stumble out of the bar and start speaking incoherently with your friend/date - it's funny as hell), and obviously this also causes a problem with your ability to drive.  If you drive drunk, cops will notice and will pursue you like they would for any other infraction (you get a one star wanted rating).  Luckily you can actually ride a cab in this game (if you have enough to afford it, which isn't much actually), but it takes awhile for you to muster the ability to hail a cab when you're drunk, of course, there's also the issue of a cab actually being around when you need it.

QuoteHeh, dispite how people play him niko is prolly my favorite GTA character because he seems to have a concious and moral. I play him like his character is depicted, someone that doesnt like all the killing, but has to do it to survive.

Indeed, I'll try not to spoil the details for Smokey's sake, but when it came to the main story that's generally how I made decisions.  For example, here's the decisions I remember making (and why):

Ivan: Alive (Vlad pissed me off)
Cherise: Alive (Even though she cheated, I didn't think Dwayne would really be happy if she was dead - I was right)
Playboy X or Dwayne: Playboy X (he was an alright guy, but he didn't seem very loyal when he asked me to kill Dwayne)
Clarence: Dead (I can't remember why I killed him even though I never liked Francis)
Derrick or Francis: Francis (I liked the McReary's but I thought Francis was a hypocritical, sanctimonious bastard, making him the oddball out)
Darko: Alive (Even though Niko really wanted it, I didn't think it would really make him feel any better)
Revenge/Money: Revenge (I felt this decision was a good deal different than the Darko one, I really hated Dimitri for one thing, but also given that he is a total rat bastard, I had a feeling if I didn't kill him then, he'd end up killing me later)[/list]

For me, random killing sprees were, for lack of a better term, "non-canon".  I wasn't really thinking about Niko or the story at that point, it was just a departure - like playing online.  Now that I think about it, there's a crime I do indulge in quite often without even a thought about it in GTA - theft.  I'm always stealing cars - if I like it, I take it.

Quoteas for the AI.. the AI is usually retarded. If you steal a helicopter and get a wanted rating, you can just hover off shore and police cruisers will just keep driving into the water. how intelligent is that? True, but let's not forget that you don't have access to helis earlier in the game.  Say what you will about the AI, but they still make for a very devastating mob to overcome.

Well, Roman can be a bit of a bitch at times, but I would say that's how a typical person would act/react in the situations he and Niko find themselves in.  Despite the depth Niko has, he seems superhuman next to a guy like Roman and Roman seems somehow more "authentic" as a result.  He's also a good foil for people who would otherwise make, let's say "bad" decisions - kind of like a second conscience.  I should also mention that his dealings with Niko remind me of how a real (albeit very dysfunctional) family functions, there's a lot going on there.  Sure Brucie's funny, but he's also incredibly annoying, he's mostly just good fodder for some of Niko's funnier lines in the game.

Well, I couldn't say I didn't find a good deal with which to identify with Niko, so we can pretty much agree on the fact that Niko is awesome.  My favorite among Niko's friends is either Packie or Little Jacob, though.  Packie because he's funny as hell and Irish American (like yours truly :P), and Little Jacob, well for many reasons, greatest among them probably being how he's always got Niko's back.

EDIT: Removed spoilerific details...

Niko Bellic: "Packie, my man. How are you and Gracie getting on?"
Patrick "Packie" McReary: " Like a house on fire, ain't that right gracie?"
Gracie Ancellotti: *through gag* "You fucking bastards."
Packie: "See, she was just telling me how much she loved me. What do ya think of Niko, Gracie?"
Gracie: *gagged* "I fuckin' hate the both of you!"
Packie: "Gracie, watch your mouth. Niko is a good friend of mine. Don't say that about him"
Gracie: *gagged* "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you!"
Packie: "Gracie, you're sweet. I know I'm too good for him, but sometimes a guy has got to hang out with lowlifes like Niko here. He's got his uses"
Gracie: *gagged* "I'll give you some fucking uses!"
Packie: "That's right, he is definitely a bad influence on me."
Gracie: *gagged* "Motherfucker!"

The "fun in the showers" discussion was pretty damn hilarious too, but that one above made me spew horchata outta my nose.

I presonaly thing the extra stuff made chrono cross less endering.  You cant have a really compelling story if your characters could be differnt each play through. I like those old turn based RPGs, but I play them for the deep well written stories, and I feel those stories lack with proper depth without the set characters.  If I want something I can play differently each time, I play a freeform RPG like oblivion or fallout 3.

Ah yes, both of those games go near the top of my list

Chrono Cross made you play multiple times to see everything. Thousand Arms had me try to get the most kisses on every girl, Super Robo Taisen gave me a hard time recruit sp characters like the super robot destroying Bonta-Kun and a lot more.... I guess I like thsoe complicated and weird games much...

EDIT: Thought of more appropriate prefix...  also, to keep this on topic - have you tried Twin Snakes, Smokey?  I know there are a few fanboys that complain about it (changes in dialogue, cinematics, other silly stuff), but it's still the method I prefer when playing the first MGS.  You do know there's a version of it for the PC as well, right?

This weekend I was in my room, swinging around my Bokken for practice...and then started thinking about stuff, and the word "Destructive" pops up in my head, pretty clearly.
Seconds later I loose my grip on the Bokken, and it flies out of my hand into the wall.
There's a huge dent in that wall now. It wasn't a hard swing, but it still made like a 3cm hole in the damn wall.

This is getting fuckin' creepy.

We should probably move this discussion to Topicless (that is, if there is anymore to discuss after this post), but I too notice how my thoughts seem to have an odd effect on the world around me.  Some days I'll just have a whole series of these odd coincidences.  Think about some random movie I haven't seen in awhile and then see something about it on TV.  Think about someone I haven't spoken to in forever and they wind up visiting/calling me.  There's other things too, but those are the ones that just stand out in my mind.  Anyway, I don't really place any kind of serious relevance on such events, but they can be fun (sometimes disturbing) to think about.

On topic, what's your (everyone in this thread) favorite god game?  Right now mine is SimCity 2000, but that really shouldn't count because it's the only one I've played (I really want to try Black & White).

That particular version? It's pretty good though a bit too easy- I managed to rack up a high score in the 2 million range (only ending because my stamina was running out).

Also on my computer are two other Missile Command variants for the Macintosh but they are more challenging. The very first, original Missile Command version (for the Atari 2600, IIRC) is very VERY difficult though!

Abandonware is such a murky zone, though, especially with larger franchises.  They are licensed compilations of Atari games if you're that interested.  Of course, these games can't quite emulate the experience on a particular system (nothing beats the feel of an arcade cabinet, and by the same token nothing is quite like when you play a game on an old floppy system).  In any case, I own a copy of Atari Anniversary Collection for the PC, not only does it have the awesome games (including Missile Command), there's also a font and wallpapers.

Video Poker is the same as 5-Card Draw, which is simple really.  The game I play is "Jacks or Better" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Poker#Jacks_or_Better), see, it's pretty simple - and addictive.

Explanation of terms:
Jacks or Better - any pair of face cards
Two Pair - self-explanatory
Three of a Kind - self-explanatory
Straight - any set of cards in a series (e.g. Ace,2,3,4,5 or 10,Jack,Queen,King,Ace)
Flush - all cards of the same suit (Diamonds, Spades, etc.)
Full House - a pair and three of a kind
Four of a Kind - self-explanatory
Straight Flush - a series of cards with the same suit
Royal Flush - a 10,Jack,Queen,King,Ace series with the same suit

Basically, but it's a little more complicated.  You see, since you'll be playing against others now, they'll be counting exactly what it is you have.  You won't just have a straight, it'll be either high or low.  Face cards are even more important because they now carry an inherent value (that is, if you have a shitty hand, just having an "Ace in the hole" can help greatly (well, only if the other players also have equally shitty hands).  Still, the basic hierarchy is the same, it's basically based on the rarity of the hands.  The less likely a hand is to get, the higher value it carries.

That and it can be incredibly dull driving around for hours with nothing to listen to - much like real life.  A lot of games have used popular music before, but I much prefer the radio station approach in GTA.

It's funny.  Even though it's an ancient game, I find myself playing TONS of BZFlag.  It helps that there is a really active community and always at least 5 or six servers with slots available all the time.

I think my favorite games is the Ar Tonelico Series. It has a good graphics and a good story too.But it takes hours to finish it,especially the second one.It has multiple endings, like a Visual Novel, but it's a RPG game with VN elements in it.A good combination i think.
Still,it's hard to get all of the endings... T_T

I'm sorry.

Regardless, I have a lot of "favorite games." One of which is most def Xenogears.

On the PC platform, I guess I'd go with the UT series.

But cybran navy was always amphibious...partly at least.

And most of all I can NOT forgive the resource flow concept's removal. That's what made TA and SupCom/FA the games they were! It's so annoying, trying to plan ahead and then "woops, you don't have that many resources" and "woops, you haven't RESEARCHED THAT SHIT" which makes me insane. I mean, I usually enjoy research elements in RTS and TBS (mostly TBS though), but SupCom2 really fails at it. The lack of T1->T2->T3->EX tech tree is precisely why we can't have nice things.
SupCom2 engine + FA units and system = TOTAL WINNAGE, imo.

And like I said - Overlord charmed me with its title, so I tried it. 'twas enjoyable, but I never got around to finishing it. The sequel didn't quite get the good parts of reviewing, so I skipped out on it...might try it sometime, though.

And ANYONE who hasn't got a copy of TA should just learn2throw off your foolhardy mental shackles and TORRENT IT, IT'S ABANDONWARE ANYWAY SO WHAT GIVES. >_<
Personally I go with the Twilight modpack.

I have to agree that planning building is piss annoying, but that leave you to more micro-managing, wich is annoying but it's good if you want to get better at RTS'es, like starcraft, micro all the way. I wanted the tech's though, just like you say. I get really bored with the few units you have, like 1 battleship, 1 sub, 1 cruiser and 1 destroyer -_- Im also mighty pissed on how they buttraped the cybran units, no big ass spiderbots, no sweeping lasers instead they get tiny feckin walkers only good in swarms. Supcom 1 with some graphical feutures from supcom 2 would be awesome, like underwater wreckages and stuff (there are mods for that though)

WHAAAT!?? T____T No mods? D: Well SupCom 2 was a good game, it was fun to play if you could stand the micro, the crappy rescource and research system, but supcom 1 was way better. I mean i played supcom 1 with a broken arm when i first got it on releaseday. No such memories in supcom 2 T___T
