I agree that gold or chrome accents are a nice addition though! But to completely plate something in it is usually overkill!

And I hate when designers put a bunch of gold and diamonds on their (insert item here) without improving it in other ways just to make it the most goddamn expensive item of its kind.

Post by: NejinOniwa on February 13, 2009, 07:02:24 PM
Word up on that. I mean, really, it's just a few protons here and there that makes the difference anyway...
Title: Golden...
Post by: Smokey on February 13, 2009, 07:07:12 PM
that´s atoms, difference betwen generic molecules and Au are MOLECULES!
Title: Golden...
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 13, 2009, 07:08:57 PM
The difference between two substances are the contents of their atoms...meaningly, the amount of protons/neutrons/electrons in the core.

Remember your chemistry now.
Title: Golden...
Post by: Smokey on February 13, 2009, 07:11:57 PM
a different atom equals a different substance, and in a lot of cases, the non-elemental substances, a different molecule means a different substance, or even a different molecule layout means a different substance...
Title: Golden...
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 13, 2009, 07:14:04 PM

To clear this up further:

The number of PROTONS in an atom defines its identity as an element. (i.e: Hydrogen=1, Calcium=20, Arsenic=33, Gold=79, etc.)

The number of NEUTRONS can vary within the same element. Each variation is called an ISOTOPE. All elements, radioactive or not- have at least one radioactive isotope.

I'd rather have some gold jewelry because it would be much less likely to be stolen (as long as I'm wearing it) than say... a gold cellphone!

true, that there is TRUE gold!!

eh, i find gold gaudy. but then, i'm a silver person myself. but i hate it when people do that, addin completely unnecessary "bling" to pretty much everything, their electronics, car, wardrobe, ect. is someone compensating?
Title: Golden...
Post by: CaptBrenden on February 14, 2009, 05:46:54 AM
well, gold or silver, least for jewlery, really depends on the person as to which looks better on them. Just like cirtain colors work better for people and such when it comes to clothing.
Title: Golden...
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 14, 2009, 05:57:57 AM
exactly. i'm a winter. <3

but it gets really gaudy when the earrings can double as bracelets.

and also when it spreads to phones, laptops, ect. somewhere in japan there's a golden toilet. :[

I prefer more.. tactical ear rings.. mostly studs, or such. but Im a silver person too. the silver goes better with the black and red i usually wear, or black and pink.

but yeah.. its crazy the kinda stuff ive seen made gaudy with "bling"

You forgot the number of electrons can make them ions, which gives them the ability to form salts and other substances with ions of other elements. -w-

Meh, but as for me I dunno about gold shit...my hair is GOLDEN enough already, so I mostly stay to silver stuff. I usually wear a pair or three silver rings, occasionally adding something more...sometimes people ask me if I'm engaged, haha. I need to get a gold ring instead just to make it even more hilarious. _w_

i hate the look of yellow gold (as jewelry). as hair or gold coins, then yes, bring it on! but otherwise, no.
my mom made me get gold for my class ring (i wanted to be cheap and get this weird non-precious metal called lustrium or something or other. sadly, she made me get gold. so i got white gold. :3

i hate oversized jewelry, except some necklaces. (i had the nicest tag w/ sign language for "i love you" on it on a long chain. not big, just LONG. .......oh man that sounds bad xD )
the biggest earrings i have? well, the heavest are tarnished-look silvery (idk what metal, probably steel or something) in the shape of little coffins hanging on chains. the coffins even open! but they're really heavy, i wore them when i was younger and they nearly ripped my ears ;_;
Title: Golden...
Post by: CaptBrenden on February 14, 2009, 06:33:31 AM
eeeh.. class rings for HS... waste of money in my opinion, it didnt take even a year before I ceased caring about that great "acomplishment"  least collage class rings mean something.  Tho I went to the military, so instead I got a polished brass saber  instead of a ring ;p

On second thought, that sounds like a good idea, spending lots of money so The Man can't have it! That 57% tax bracket is asinine! Though in all fairness, most countries with high tax brackets have things like universal healthcare and such.

In comparison, the highest tax bracket in the U.S. is 39% but the healthcare system is f***ed up and college costs an *** load of money. :(

HAH!!!
I remember our old health care system, where i paid â,¬57,79 a month for a so called "Private insurance" (we also had the cheap 'n cheerful Collective insurance for the proletariat) and now with our new government and their BS new insurance system i pay twice as much for less coverage...

Plus taxes have gone up on E-VE-RY-THING (cars, flying, houses, income, groceries, alcohol, gasoline) plus they made up a couple of new ones "Because our [censored] gocernment cares about the [censored] environment"
Well, those [censored], [censored] only care about lining their [censored] pockets with our money, cuz if they really cared about the "environment", they'd already have put up biodiesel and bioethanol gas stations, and our public transport'd be running on that stuff already...
No what they do is; raise taxes on older cars, reintroduce tax on classic cars (cars older than 25 years were exempt from road tax), and make virtually everything with an engine in it fiscally unattractive or impossible for not only the common man, but also for small businesses...

So, yeah[/really heavy sarcasm] we do live in a beautiful[/sarcasm] country, where our government has nothing but our best interest in mind[/dripping wet with sarcasm, and a hint of deathwish] and sure we pay a lot of taxes..... on about everything we do..... or eat.... or drink..... or don't do, for that matter..... but in return we get, ready?
Higher prices, smaller paychecks, budget cuts, unemployment, less police, resulting in more crime and death, budget cuts in our healthcare system, resulting in filthy (literally, they're dirty with ORs closed because of the dust and vermin) and understaffed underqualified hospitals, budget cuts in the school system, budget cuts in the army, insane amounts of paperwork to get ANYTHING done, and last but not least we also get richer and richer ministers... wich isn't so hard, now that there is virtually a ban on making more money than our MP...

Name a government where people are satisfied...

and I'll show you a country whose people are uneducated.

The truth of the matter is, people will always find a reason to complain.  You can't please everybody.  A system without regulation becomes a system overrun by larger than sustainable industry.  A system with too much regulation becomes a system stagnated and atrophies.  It's a nearly an impossible balance to reach, and extremists from either side say their way is best.  Honestly there's a lot I'd like to change about how my country works, and most of that is based on my personal experiences.  The same pretty much goes for everyone else, and we're stuck arguing subjectively about how things should be done.  Seeing as how I've done enough talking about nothing, how about this topic gets steered away from politics?  Better yet, let's just get back to the topic...
Title: Golden...
Post by: Smokey on August 28, 2009, 04:12:24 PM
