Hi hi, this is a curiosity ^__^...
In my house we have a PC (2.4 GHz working XP home SP1) with a DVD burner as SLAVE in secondary IDE (MASTER is a CD burner ^^); well, this isn't odd, strange is that did can't activate Ultra-DMA4 (Maximum allowed by drive and motherboard), then only worked on PIO mode...
Funny is when uses same drive on other machine (1 GHz using W98) worked perfectly Ultra-DMA2 (Restriction because motherboard o,O),, well, we continue using PIO mode because we can't find how activate superior mode TT...
Still today, my brother give me a question: If DVD is MASTER?, I say OK! and well... after changue we can activate Ultra-DMA4 mode and driver performance level-up more than double (?)... sounds out of logic but... because it is the thread name o__O...
I hope this info will useful for somebody as us ^___^...

Hola hola, ésta es una curiosidad ^__^...
En casa tenemos una PC (2.4 GHz con XP home SP1) usando un quemador de DVD, conectado como ESCLAVO al canal IDE secundario (Como MASTER un quemador de CD ^^); bueno, ésto no es lo extraño -,-, lo extraño es que nunca pudimos activar el modo Ultra-DMA4 (Permitido por la unidad y la tarjeta -_-) y estuvo trabajando siempre en PIO...
Lo chistoso es que usando la misma unidad en una mà quina diferente (1 GHz con W98) funcionaba perfectamente en Ultra-DMA2 (Máximo permitido por la tarjeta o,O), bueno... la seguimos usando en modo PIO porque no supimos por qué sucedÃa TT...
Hasta el dÃa de hoy, que mi hermano por mera curiosidad me preguntó ¿Qué pasarÃa si quedaba el DVD como MASTER?; le dije, bueno... hicimos el cambio y pudimos usar Ultra-DMA-4 subiendo su desempeño a un poco más del doble que tenÃa (?)... nos pareció ilógico pero bueno... por eso el tÃtulo del thread o__O......
Espero que esta información sea útil para alguien más ^___^...
EEhm i learned that on an IDE channel the drives always go by the speed of the slowest device... so maybe the new board doesn't support UDMA2?
weks... i always install the DVD burner on the master and DVD rom on the slave.... but i don't really aware about this UDMA-4 things... ;015

Anyway I guess this is a fun crazy happening >¬<...

And drive is Ultra-OK now ^¬^...
DVD will run fine on standard UDMA66, since DVD I/O doesn't exceed the 66MB/s capacity of said UDMA66...
At least that's what Wikipedia says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD#Technology)
