i am. :[ we have no clue how long it will last, we caught it from our friend, who had it for 3 weeks and then caught it AGAIN, while still recovering, so i have no idea how long it'll last.
but i'm over the worst.......i hope.
then i have another ear infection.......4th-5th in a yearlong period....... :[

I'm ALWAYS affected by blocked nasal passages. I have allergies in the summer and colds during the winter. That's usually the worst of what I face all of the time, though occasionally I'll get vomiting-sick.
I am gifted with a machine-like immune system.
I get a cold once or twice a year, and maybe, MAYBE the flu if it's in season, but that's it.

Err... I used to get sick a lot as a kid but now I very rarely get sick- usually only just 1 or 2 colds a year.
Well, it's that time of year, and I was just waiting for someone to bring this up (I was actually expecting it in the Topicless Thread, but this works), so I could bitch about it without worry of being accused of making a cop for sympathy. Yeah, this makes the third time I've had cold-like symptoms (accompanied with other sinus issues) in FOUR months (once when I made to Texas, again when leaving Texas, and now AGAIN). I have no one to blame but myself - poor diet and sleeping habits. This is still unusual because I've never been sick this often and I hate it. I'm trying to avoid medication this time around and just reinforce an improved diet with Vitamin C tablets. Still having trouble with sleep - old habits die hard.
Here's hoping we beat this sick like rented mules.
Oh, and Gobama (had to say it before the day was officially over).
I was sick during most of December, cured it with stubornness and a good dose of Vodka...:D

I dont get sick very often now, but while I was in the military I was getting some doozies.. but then again you got people from all over the US getting stuck in very small spaces with one another, everyone sharing whatever it is they brought from home... i realize i bring illness upon myself. i haven't taken vitamins in about 10 years, don't wear a proper winter coat and sometimes walk home from school. the boots i wear aren't official winter boots and aren't even mine. :] and there's a small possibility (i think i feel it) that i have ANOTHER ear infection, but in the other ear. :p

Well, I was actually joking about that, generally my experience has been that people here tend to be friendlier than most places on the net. I think there has at least been one other time someone complained about being sick on here and no one gave them a hard time about it, so no worries there.
Chances are my "recurring illness" is merely the result of an ear infection of which I never cured myself. My ear has been itchy as hell since September, so yeah, it's a wonder I haven't had any hearing loss or dizziness (I've only been dizzy once the whole time). Anyway, you should really take some vitamins, especially if you're not eating properly.
Lots of people seems to be sick. Not me though, havent been seriously sick for a couple of years now. "Seriously" means more than 1 day of bedrest.
Winter is an important time to remember to eat properly, be sure to get your Vitamin D's and keep your feet dry.
The winters in Finland have been pretty mild recently, so I've been ok without a proper winter cap. Summer cap when its -15'C is almost over my limits though...
well a couple of sick days in last december (read ~1 week) are caused by bad food (bad seafood was a doozey, as was the raw-ish pork)..
I haven't been sick in a while; last time I felt sick was New Year's Day because of just how late I stayed up watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya the night before.

smokey: i'm thankful to have never been affected by food poisoning, though my cousin has. however, a couple years back, i ate a horrible grilled cheese that made me feel as though i had worms. ended up hugging the porcelan god bulimic-style. i figure that the poor service from that restaraune resulted in cross contamination (it's a fish restaraunt, you do the math.)

i found out that whatever i have is going around. my high school is a cesspool in itself, last year we had a staph outbreak that hospilatized people. not to mention the mono outbreak that occured when my sis went there.....and the abestos in the floor. :3

well, i used to slep through maths (boring) and i once slept through an entire hour of german without anyone noticing (sitting up straight in the front row, with my eyes open... :D)
it is virtually impossible for me to sleep during the day. i have to be exausted, or VERY sick in order to nap.

To start, I tore up my right leg from foot to knee once while swimming. Antibiotics saved from amputation, close call, etc. Fuckma, that hurt.

Well, i did, when i was 15 or so, get Pharyngitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharyngitis), but i just jept going to school and didn't pay any attention at it...
Then one day i woke up and as i rolled over to get out of bed, i fainted, because i got a 40-41C degree fever (about 105 F) and i couldn't do anything for 4 days (and, no, i couldn't eat or drink either)...
In the end i got some antibiotics, (wich name i still remember) and i still wonder sometimes how the heck i survived that...
I hit my head when I was a kid. No really, right in the middle of my forehead. Had to get 4 stiches for it.
Later when I was 14 or so, I bumped my leg on a radiator. Didnt notice that it had a sharp tip where the temperature changing thingie shouldve been. So it literally ripped (too blunt to cut) the skin open on my leg. There was no pain, nor blood, which made me pretty surprised as I checked my leg and it had a 5cm long and 1 cm wide hole in the skin. It was kinda interesting to see your own leg muscle.
Also I managed to stab myself with a kitchen knife in my foot when i was 11. Seriously, dont ask why, as I cant remember either...
When I was serving in the FDF, I tripped and slammed my face on my rifle. The back-sight of the gun split one of my front teeth.
I'm just too clumsy...
Ah. Speaking of front teeth, I only have one. Knocked the other one out when I took my second lesson in Judo, when I was 9. Shit, that hurt.

i have a good fail-safe: when my body fels i've had enough, i automatically fall asleep... there were many times my friends thought i was dead because they couldn't wake me up :D

After all, the topic is "plague", which as a disease went extinct for a couple of centuries ago, so, hey.
I seem to be mostly over my bug, but my dad seems to have a fever (he denies it, but his temp registered 102F and his norm is 97F, so yeah) and has been pretty sick for the past few days. The whole thing has been freaking me out, thankfully he has a check-up scheduled for Monday. I doubt he'd have gone if not for his yearly check up - he's on this whole faith-healing kick. Anyway, I mention all this because I'm hoping not to catch what he has since I've been taking better care of myself.
On the topic of hangovers, as I've mentioned before I've never drank enough to have one, but I get some nasty migraines, so I'm not going to invite head pain by drinking mess I don't like the taste of anyway -__-.
Headaches are beyond me on hangover-type issues, but I get really, really spinny...
As for that, it's most likely little to worry about since you just've been ill, so it's more likely he caught your disease. Not likely to come back to you.

Sleep, and tea (mint or something, (pickwick has minty morocco wich is mint, liquorice and cinnamon, (real soothing))) with a dab of honey, will sooth a sore throat... also avoid eating before you drink in the morning... i have the same problem...
menthol cough drops. i get the ginger ale kind from halls, they taste horrible but once you get past that your throat is GOLDEN.

When I woke up this morning I felt like I had a cold, with a stuffy nose but in a few hours the cold symptoms were all gone! Weird, but at least it didn't last long at all! Having a runny or stuffy nose really sucks, and it blows!
I was puking Fanta all yesterday night.

Furtonately I don't have any serious sickness though I do have one most noticeable and a little bit annoying (and in some dose..LETHAL) me to end.
I have accute allergic to cigar and tobacco. Just getting close to someone smoking long enough (like five minutes) is enough to make me send to the hospital. This is why I never smoke nor will become a smoker.
Come to think of it, why does many people smoke?
It's an addictive drug. I don't smoke though, i'm a good girl. :]
Smoking is such a waste of money. And it's really annoying when people smoke at train stations, the whole platform smells then...
I smoke because it makes me look cool. It also saves me money on cologne. I mean why bother trying any harder to smell good when I already naturally have the smooth, refined smell of tobacco smoke... *cough* *cough* *cough*
I keed, I don't smoke tobacco, but my father does, and it's been a problem for me all my life. When I was kid, being around him for any extended period would give me the most awful headache - to the point that it would induce vomiting. When I got into HS, everyone thought that I was a smoker because my clothes always smelled of smoke. It's been really annoying.
To answer your question, as Cockle said, it's the addictive substance (nicotine) in tobacco that makes it hard to quit. Sometimes it's not just that, for my dad it's a combination of that and pride and stubborness that keeps him from quitting. He hates it when he feels like someone is pressuring him to do something, but despite that, he has tried to quit in the past. I guess some people also think it makes them look cool.
Well, i started when i was 14 and it was because of the stress i was under... (looong story), and yes i don't want to quit because i'm stubborn and don't want to quit because someone else says so, directly sabotaging any attempt to do so...

BTW i don't smoke a lot at all... I don't smoke in the house, because when we moved in we painted everything, and the structure is of wood, so smoke lingers for ages...

Yeah, I started getting body aches Wednesday after using the weed eater (it hurts you really bad if you're not used to it). It also didn't help that I wasn't able to sleep for two days. I fixed that by taking some acetaminophen (it was probably the chlorpheniramine that did the trick, actually), but I would've preferred some stronger and fast-acting codeine though, really, but I'd need a prescription for that.
Oh yeah, and do I need to mention that by using the weed eater, I was flinging the very stuff that aggravates my allergies in my face? Still, VonDaab, you have my sympathies - if I were to have my choice I'd probably take this over a headache any day (I hate headaches).

I got effing sick early last October... after being around some grubby little virulent preschooler. THough I've been fine since. It helps to be antisocial and avoid groups, hurhur.

in january, i caught a terrible cold while out doing errands. this was just a mild little cold that made me sneeze like crazy. that might have been the common cold. anyway, it was over in about a month. come april, i get this terrible wheezing cough and stuffed sinuses. this overall lasted 3 months. it cleared up suddenly when things started to warm up.
fast forward to september, the swine flu craze. me and other people get really paranoid, putting GermEx on our hands when we come in.. lots of showers.. anyway.. we got the swine flu anyway. terrible flu symptoms. that lasted a month. one month later in november, we got this absolutely horrible unknown virus.. really contagious. symptoms were extreme sore throat that didnt respond to lozenges, terrible coughing and postnasal drip. it was absolute hell to sleep and me and others always got up in the middle of the night to barf. the sickness really took a toll on us. anyway, it cleared up a little. now we all have sniffly noses and a bad cough.

the odd thing is, i get sick all the time, but i have never gotten a flu shot, and have only gotten flu once, when i was 6. (gave it to my mum, who gave it to my sister, who then gave it to my mum. :3)

3. was single at the time

And d'oh! I should have checked the dates. I didn't go to my prom either, but I did go to my 6th Form leavers' ball. That was fun.
prom is a load of bull. i asked my bf about it, but he jumped the gun on what i was about to say, and ended up prematurely saying no to long night of hot -n- heavy. xD
lesee, the mouth cuts have healed, mostly (there's a patch in the back i keep accidentaly chewing on), but my tongue is sore now from too many sour patch kids. the rest of me feels fine, other than dry hands and a little chilly. i should also be hitting the sack soon. had a cavaty filled yesterday.

interesting. a similar note: when i started this thread so long ago, i mentioned that i had been suffering from massive load of ear infections. figured out it's cause i live with 3 smokers. :\
i feel bad for my boyfriend. he's VIOLENTLY allergic to cats, so much so that he had to leave a friend's house after a half hour due to the fact that his face was starting to swell.

so i've contracted something called the coxsakie virus. :[ sounds exotic, doesn't it? apparently it's common in 6 mos. to 4 yr olds. :\
causes "Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease". nothing to do with the cow disease. think i'll stick to "coxsakie".
this causes fever, blisters and rash on hands, feet, and sometimes butt, red spots, and PAINFUL mouth leisions. :[
i only have the mouth sores, doc says i probably caught it at school, and to avoid acidic food like tomatos and such.
