i hope to make manga/anime for a living (ik, ik, you guys are gonna thrash my dreams and crap) so maybe someday there'll be a real os-tan manga. <3

You might be surprised. After all, as I remember, Thurosis-sama made a charming OSC manga and look where he is now ^v^

I apologize, though, my work must be blocking the images. I will recheck when I get home, though. Gomen nasai ^^

Thurosis is a (former?) OSC member who drew an OS-tan + Code Geass + Rozen Maiden crossover comic that also had some of the OSC members in it!:

Aurora-hime and I have also made out own manga and comic series, you can probably find the threads in the OS-tan art and comic section of the forums.

And there have been several OS-tan manga which have come out of Japan, as well.

i'm afraid....... ;_; i get flamed alot......
and i don't use markers since the ones i have are cheap and old.....
and i do everything by hand, lines, curves (though a former teacher did say that i was one of the few people she knew who could freehand straight lines)
and, and.......*lack of confidence coming into play*
and no real digital coloring (at least not much till i can get a tablet)

................it's not done yet anyway........

Sort of off-topic but...
I believe that if someone passes the major tests and projects, the minor homework doesn't matter.  If they do poorly on that stuff, then minor homework should start to count.

Back to topic, I'm interested in what your manga will be. If the cover from your contest thread is the concept for your manga, I'd want to see it, as the virus-tans don't have many comics on this site.

Ah, so much to rely to, I think im gonna forget something...

anyhow, hope you have more luck with your manga then mine.  Mine is burried deep in the old threads and i never really did get more then a few teaser posters and some 4koma.. i still wanna pick it back up but i could never get a story locked down that I liked.

as for H-doujin,  yeah further talk of that should be taken to the H section. However ill say that, so I can be the envy of all, that I have an actuall OS-tan doujin. Purchased it from a convention after sifting through boxes of hundereds of random doujin. Only OS tan one i could find.  It has 2 stories, one where master is in a 3some with 2k and xp next to a sleeping ME-tan, the other is 2k with um.. *cough* bruce willis/john mclaine.... o_o  Anyhow, I prolly would have drawn my own OS-tan H-doujin by now, but I wanted to avoid beling labled the forum pervert.

anyhow, off to the H-section for more on that.

Quotes for looks, i wish i could get the proper outfit, or at least the headgear, i could post my pic as my avi! xD rdhdtwns is xp, i might as well be 2k. :3

Dont forget Toki as ME-tan. I wish I could cosplay =_=

on topic:
Quotehope to make manga/anime for a living (ik, ik, you guys are gonna thrash my dreams and crap) so maybe someday there'll be a real os-tan manga. <3

Well if your serious about that, I can help you along.   Im attempting the same thing so in that we have a common goal.  Ive spent quite a bit of time over the last year learning to draw manga proper.  Im willing to teach you, if your willing to learn.

This is what Ive done in manga studio (in case you missed it in free cookies):

I am by no means great at it, but i have some skill in it, and the program is difficult to learn, but as far as manga goes, there is no better program suited for it on the market.  If you want to draw comics, manga specificly, its the program I saggest you learn.   I relize for a highschooler its a little more difficult, but the base program is only like 35 bucks, and a basic wacom tabled 60. If your truely serious about creating manga for a living, you cant afford NOT to get these, and the sooner, the sooner you can practice and get good.

Tho, Ill say now, Im willing to help and teach and walk you through the process, but it will involve detailed critisim.  All art does. If you cant handle that, well..  honsetly I would saggest picking a different dream, cus no artist alive doesnt get nit picked and critisized. I apologize for the harshness of this statement, but it is true. If you want to get good you need to learn how to handle people saying whats wrong with your work, and learn how to deal with idiots that flame it.

*agrees*

drawing with the mouse is near mpossible and scanning kills the quality....
And i don't know the program but the results i saw were indeed good and i don't see another program do that (at least not easily)...

Plus, this forum could use a new manga....I read all the old ones ^_^
Title: os-tan manga
Post by: CaptBrenden on January 29, 2009, 10:32:02 AM
Well, i assume she would do it with pencil pen paper and screen tone, but honestly, that would cost more. for proper pens and nibs, keeping enough screen tone on hand, buying proper manuscript paper etc, plus real manuscripts are prone to real damage.  you cant undo a coffee or ink spill, you just have to start over.   Plus real tone is a pain to work with. it pretty much clear sticky paper stuff with dots on it, you cut it in the shape of where you want it and then rub it down with a tool to make sure it stays, alot of mess that.  I always had the stuff folding over like tape and sticking to itself.
Title: os-tan manga
Post by: Smokey on January 29, 2009, 11:15:31 AM
wow, long live the tablet then....

That would be a lot beasier than doing it by hand....Cuz that sounds like a full time job, making a manga like that... Makes me respect it more, though...
Title: os-tan manga
Post by: CaptBrenden on January 29, 2009, 12:27:34 PM
Well, yeah. Manga artist is a full time job and then some. Its a demanding job, one that is very very stressful and will take its toll on your quickly. Like i think i mentioned elsewhere, a profesional mangaka produces 3 pages a day.  Only the best artists get assistants to help them out, most write draw ink tone and everything themselves. It  tends to be a one man/woman operation.

anyhow, like I said, its pricy either way. the basic version of that program is the 35 dollar one, the pro version i use is around 230-300 dollars depending on where you get it. But thats more a large one time cost instead of keeping a supply of pens paper and tone around.  In MS EX ive got thousands of screen tones, and they never run out. With physical medium you would have to keep all that on hand, and youll have to order more, god forbid you run out of it when your trying to make a deadline, since ive yet to see a store in the states that sells it. you pretty much have to order it online.

Also, alot still use physical medium, but more and more artists are using that exact program for profesional manga. Actually, Tokyo pop supports it and actually takes alot of junior artist submissions from it.  Tho i would saggest not trying to get published through them, they are bastards.  Soon as you make a submission they have some clause that makes it so that you give them full copyright to the material.. so say you have your own characters and story, you submit to get published, you dont even get published so you maybe take your stuff elsewhere to try to get published or post it online, Tokyo Pop can go after you cus they technicly own the rights to it.  farking bastards.

If you were really hardcore and were trying to make it in the japanese market, having a digital manuscript would allow you to submit to japanese companies from the states as well.

Dang right that this thread needs to get back on-topic!

I really would like to see your OS-tan comic when you get to drawing it, Chocofreak!

It is not a requirement to use Manga Studio or use traditional screen tone to make a manga series. (I really do like the manga style and I wish I draw comics in that style , but it's out of my reach) You can just draw it all using pencils, pens and paper since that's much easier and available to you.

Try not to act like the number at the end of your nickname is your age.  Up untill now Ive tried to give you helpful pointers and Ive never been mean or malicious about it.  I have been trying to encourage you to improve yourself so you can relize your dreams, and all you do is throw that back at me and get an additude. Grow the hell up and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

And  I know there are issues with those drawings. Im working on improving myself and I will take your critisizum lightly. The multi panel one is the most recent so its logical that things are done better in it. It is possible to digitaly flip flop your drawing, so I will take your advice on that.

However, if you ever come down on someone that rude during critique again, especialy concidering how much of a baby you are when people do it to you, I'll be on you like white on rice in a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snow storm.

However, if your done whining about not being able to afford things, and done throwing my attempts to help you in my face, I have a copy of manga studio 3.0 debut you can HAVE.  Free ninty nine.  Cant beat that.

I try not to be rude or harsh. Ive tried very hard not to be. Ive tried to be helpful, and Ive got nothing but rude comments back. Im sick of it, so im not going to be polite about it anymore. She has the possibilty to go far in art and see her dreams come true, but thats never gonna happen if she spits in the face of anyone that tries to help but doing more then just patting her on the back and saying "it looks good" with no useful pointer or critique.

*calls Mission Control*

Commander! We've succeeded with the mission! Should we pull out or continue monitoring?

The despair of others, created by others while you were just standing by is delicious, really.

What was that quote, "We call dreams dreams because they can't come true", or something? Where was it from, I wonder. Nice call though.

Well nejin is a douche that really is out just to crush dreams. I cant remember the last time it was pleasent to talk to him, or he said something either encouraging or useful.  Cirtanly ranks in my book as the least pleasent forum member.  But thats off topic, well unless you concider discussing how he is trying to crush her mangaka dreams on topic.

cockelshell!!! *hug* and omfg you're in mass!? i'm in nh! must find yous!

capitan, i never liked you.  as for my age i'd be stupid to give that out on the web. glad you took my advice, i'll be taking yours on manga studio (birthday in about  a month [31 days] ) as for your "white" comment, uhm.....no idea what that said (my poor brain-thing! ) go ahead and criticize. i don't care. i just don't feel like posting if you're going to criticize my materials, as THAT'S ALL I CAN F-ING AFFORD. that why i don't want to post. (that, and the coloring contest, if i post it'll ruin it.) oh but my friend's friend is selling a tablet, so who knows maybe i'll be able to get in on the "fancy" action like you someday. and yeah, i am young! so f-ing what? your art DOES look nice though, i will admit. i just need you to hark back to the old days when all artists had was basic pens and paper. that's me, kinda. (perhaps we could start over someday...)

nejin, i figure i may be the only person here that actually likes you. you remind me of so many people from here.

smokey, you, aurora, and cockelshell are the only ones here who haven't yelled in my face yet! thanks! <D

peoples, this is what i have for art supplies:
paper (sketch and regular....and lined and such)
pencils (very particular about only using the dixon ticonderoga kind)
colored pencils (prismacolor 72 set, with some extras i bought seperate)
erasers
whiteout
pens (think the kind you use in an office)
scanner
GIMP 2.0 (barely used)
countless "How to draw manga" books (i swear i've spent an easy $500 over the years on drawing books and manga)
friends (ah, i love them so.)

"reheated pizza is always best the first day. garlic bread seems to lack an expiration date."

everyone besides capitan, sorry for getting into a scuffle here. but, like something 95-tan would say, "HONOR IS ON THE LINE!!" xD

I'm a self-proclaimed dragon artist, and I can tell you, those dragon-drawing tutorial books do NOTHING except help you a bit on the anatomy. You need to develop your own style, practice until your fingers are bleeding. (Not really, lol.)
I would never yell in your face, I'm a pretty nice person internet-wise.
Also, eep. I don't like people on the internet knowing EXACTLY WHERE I LIVE OMFG.

Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 07, 2009, 12:03:13 PM
;_; oh alright. though it would be fun.....

eh, i do kinda have my own style, the books help though. (always good to have something to fall back on, and some of them like the mangamatrix book are just helpful in character creation) i've been practicing for 11 years (technically been doing "real" manga style for 6)

"ill be on you like white on rice" is a figure of speach.  I added some more white things to emphisize the statement. Long as your polite when talking about others art (thoughtful police critique is okay and encouraged, mean or malicious crique is not) you have no reason to worry about what it means.

As for what you can afford, Like I said, the offer for the program still stands. You get a tablet, the program is yours.   Save you some money right there.

and nejin, thank you for reminding me once again how miserable of a person you are. I dont know why she likes you, but it seems like its wasted, throwing it in her face like that.

I like Nejin-onii-san ^-^ I like everyone. Even this Choco girl who doesn't know how to accept advice in stride, even if it's something she doesn't want to hear.

I know that this thread was made for her OS-tan doujin... but I wanna make one too!! But like Captain said, it's pretty much a full time job to do anything worthwhile, and I don't have the inking skills or the tone program... but maybe I'll be a good enough artist one day that I will be able to have assistants.. but by then maybe I won't want them o.o; hmmm~ i think I'm going to go start another thread I'm feeling motivated x3

Don't let those limitations get you down, Toki! I've seen your art before and it is really good!

A comic doesn't need to be extremely detailed if it's a comedy. In fact, in my OS-tan comic I use a lot of shortcuts and still have plenty of time for other things including my other series!

A strip for the board would be funny, but very few people would read it maybe... maybe you could make your own story?  or an ostan one?

and smokey, there has already been one of those.. kinda.. it kinda became random throwing in of characters Throsis liked, but original it was board related

If I took things from the board I wouldn't have to worry about writing a script... >___>;;

I actually am working on a flash cartoon with a freind though. There are alot of projects that I am a part of but they are all big projects. If anyone remembers, I'm working on a video game. We STILL havn't started production. But it's gonna be so BA. We actually have some final character designs and a solid plot... just need to start writing the script do some story boards and find some more sprite animators. colorists shaders etc... lol I refuse to do 20 fbf animations for 50 plus sprites + profile art + whatever else... * dies even more at the thought *
