Title: System Animator 8: OS-tans and Anime cuties DANCING on your desktop!
Post by: AnimeTheme on November 26, 2008, 04:09:26 AM
System Animator 8

This desktop gadget is a multi-purpose system monitor with focus on visuals and FUN! How about a cute Anime gal who dances according to the CPU usage? An animated flag which waves faster when your drive is busy? The famous Matrix digital rain effect with scroll speed corresponding to your network traffic? It's up to your imagination!

The latest version of System Animator supports the monitoring of sound output! What does it mean? Well, imagine your favorite Anime character singing and dancing to the beats LIVE when you play whatever song on your computer~!  The visual effects are especially interesting with certain songs (especially those with strong and clear beats). Pretty cool, right? :D I don't think this is something you can do with Rainmeter or most other desktop buddy programs!  8)

Click the above picture and watch System Animator in ACTION! This video demonstrates System Animator as a multi-purpose PC activity monitor, as well as a music visualizer, with interesting and fully CUSTOMIZABLE animation!

I know that there are some people who don't understand exactly what this gadget does just from text description and static screenshots, and others who simply ignore all gadgets in general thinking they are just some useless junks. Well, maybe this video will change your mind.

EDITED: Check the YouTube video links up there in the first post.

at any rate, is it any good guys? i'd download it but i'm worried it'll show up on other accounts on the computer (this is a shared computer and my dad flips out if i install the tiniest of programs. (he uninstalled snood from my computer because it showed up on his account ;_; )

There is a way to install the Vista Sidebar into Windows XP, and the link is in the linked post:

http://ostan-collections.net/post-51602.html#51602

My computer is only used by me, and I have no idea whether it shows up on other accounts.

It's nice to have 2k-san dancing to my CPU usage.

It seems using video to promote this gadget does work... LOL

For XP Sidebar, I recommend this one.

Alky RTM Sidebar for XP
http://thehobbylounge.com/forum/index.php?topic=2142.0

I have already received reports from XP users on other forums saying that System Animator does work on this Alky Sidebar, at least up to the point of "Sound output" monitor support. I would really appreciate if more XP users can try it and report anything unusual to me so that I can fix it.

I don't think Rainbar is really a Sidebar. It's more like a Sidebar-like application with fixed functionality (from rainmeter?).

If you are using XP and want to try it out, you'd better try the "Alky Sidebar for XP" program I mentioned up there.

You can have one or more than one System Animator running anywhere on your desktop.

Yeah, if you can get your itunes to play on your computer. System Animator can respond to any sound on your computer, from media player to even external microphone.

I think Chocofreak13 is asking whether the Sidebar shows up on multiple accounts if it is installed.

yeah, that's what i was asking! eh, i'll download it, if he deletes it i'll just download again, that's what i did for my schoolwork and snood.

but not right now, my computer is a tad slow, and i'm downloading a huge chunk of nijikaku.

Yeah, I have quite an archive of animations for System Animator (I just checked and was surprised to see it was already over 16MB, 1800 files, 120 sub animations... LOL), in which most of them were made by myself. Since the beginning of this System Animator project, I have been making various animations, for both testing/program development purpose and personal interest. Most of the time, an animation used in System Animator is as SIMPLE as a sequence of animated GIFs, or exported frames from an animated GIF. And the most common "source" of these animated GIFs is ... guess what, forum avatar images LOL   ;001 (I suppose your "rolling" signature can look pretty funny when it responds to music... LOL  ;025 ) We all know there are TONS of cool animated avatar images out there, and you will probably be surprised by how interesting they can be when they are used in System Animator.

Anyways, I have just updated the "Extra Animation Collection" download in my Sidebar gallery page to contain most of the animations I have. You guys can download it now.

http://www.animetheme.com/sidebar/

PS: I wonder if anyone knows any FREE program that can batch export frames (to any static format) from an animated GIF. My usual method is to manually export a frame, one by one. While it usually isn't a problem (most of the animated GIFs I work with have less than 20 frames), I do have some nice dancing animated GIFs that I want to export... but most of them have over 100 or even 200 frames, which is too much work to export them manually  ;013

Unfortunately the only tip I've got for you is to use an image processor with easy layer management, like the GIMP (http://gimp.org) or something like that. I'm not the animations kind of guy ^^

And I didn't know that song was on the Re-Mix001 disc, but I have it. Thanks!

It seems I somewhat overlooked VirtualDub.... It can actually read animated GIF and batch export frames LOL  ;025

By the way, I (finally) found the high-quality version of the Haruhi ED full dance, and managed to turn it into a System Animation animation. Even as a somewhat "random" animation... the Haruhi dance surprisingly matches a lot of musics I tried. Below is a recent video demo built with the Haruhi dance sequence.

Don't miss the new video introduction at the end of it as well.

It was down for a while I guess, but it is working properly right now.

By the way, here is a preview of a work-in-progress Vocaloid Luka gadget. This time it has all the common system stats display (CPU, RAM, network speed) built-in, so it's more than just a System "Animator"  :smoke:

This is how she looks on the desktop.

NEW desktop mascot

And a video demo as usual

(http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa106/YokoAT/YouTube%20Thumbnails/youtube_MQ2CKhCPc7w.jpg) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ2CKhCPc7w&fmt=18)

Some "tricks" are done in this demo to make those Vocaloid desktop mascots look like they are singing out the vocals in real time (normally, they react to music regardless of whether there is a vocal or not), but the whole demo is still a real-time generated one instead of anything pre-scripted  :smoke:

I know this is a bump for an old thread, but this video is worth it. It demonstrates some of the NEW possibilities introduced in System Animator 5, such as using chroma-keyed videos (ie. transparent videos) with playback rate and such controlled by System Animator. Imagine that you can have Miku or any OS mascot DANCING to whatever music you play on your desktop!

i've been waiting for you to come back!

i've been wondering, is it possible to convert any of your gadgets to rainmeter skins? or do you have any rainmeter skins? i'm stuck on XP and have been using rainmeter for my desktop gadget needs. :\
also, is it possible to make a new skin for the anime calendar or digital-style clock? i have a stock of pictures (the numbered booru catgirls) and i wanted to make them into a calendar skin. :\

also, is it possible to sync the dancing system meter to a music player besides the one shown? my preferred player is either VLC or FLELE (usually the latter) and i'd love to have them dancing to my music.

also, have you ever thought of branching out into FLELE shells? :3

(btw, the video looks and sounds great ^^ )
Title: Re: System Animator: ANIMATE your desktop!
Post by: AnimeTheme on April 17, 2012, 03:23:10 AM
Most System Animator animations are technically impossible to be ported to similar applications such as Rainmeter, simply because System Animator has some unique features not available in other desktop applications.

Yeah I would like to make new skins for Anime calendar and clocks. I would appreciate if you can provide those stock pics and I will see what I can do.

The new dancing video feature requires the music to be played directly inside the animation in order to do accurate beat sync. The animation can still react to external players (via Spectrum Analyser), but the working algorithm is different, and result is also (somewhat) different.
Title: Re: System Animator: ANIMATE your desktop!
Post by: Chocofreak13 on April 21, 2012, 12:01:56 AM
sounds like an interesting experiment. and i still think that if you made some flele shells, the community would love you. :3 it might attract more people to your site, even if you only made a couple. (check out DA or my youtube account [chocofreak887] if you're unsure what flele is.)

also, i've uploaded a .rar file of the complete sets i have. i also have an almost complete set of moving catgirls as well, so i'll upload that when i have it.

you might check out the booru project, (http://booru.org/top) since the various boorus' use different images for their numbering systems (though most use the ones i provided).

Click the image above and watch System Animator 8 in ACTION!

If you have been using the previous versions of System Animator, you will probably notice some fundamental changes. First, System Animator 8 is now a STANDALONE application, and no longer requires the obsolete Windows Gadget platform. This change allows System Animator 8 to run directly on Windows 10 and previous versions of Windows. Also note that System Animator 8 now runs in WebKit mode by default, which supports ALL advanced features of System Animator, as well as supporting REAL background transparency while maintaining GPU acceleration.

Of course, one of the most anticipated new features of System Animator 8 is the ADVANCED support of MMD and 3D animations. The more advanced PMX model format of MMD is now supported, as well as vast improvements in supporting various VMD motions. I am still making some new videos to demonstrate the new 3D features with more details, but for now, the 3D Miku animations bundled with System Animator 8 should be well enough for you guys to play for a while
smile emoticon

Please note that I haven't really tested System Animator 8 on many computers, so issues and problems may occur on some systems. Let me know if you notice anything wrong. Also I still need some times to update the homepage of System Animator, and in the mean time some of the info and optional downloads over there may be outdated/missing. Let me know if you notice anything that requires immediate attentions.

i get one of my favourite sidebar things back! ^^

3 questions:

1. how easy is it to import ones' own images? i had a couple saved from before. :0
2. have you considered porting these over to rainmeter?
3. are you going to give the same treatment to your other gadgets?

1. All previous animations are supported.

2. Simple answer: impossible. One of the purpose of System Animator is to do new things NOT possible on other gadget platforms, such as rainmeter. System Animator 8 focuses on 3D animations, while most gadget platforms are still 2D-based.

3. Seriously, those old gadgets on the same page, which were mostly small and "experimental" projects even before System Animator was born, are already outdated. Most of them can be recreated on System Animator in some ways, so personally I see little to no point to renew them. Well, actually you can still download them and they still work, but they will just stick with the Windows Gadget platform, which means Vista and 7.

You can do similar things like clock gadget on System Animator, even with animations on the background.
