It was still hot the news about the finish steps of the project for self compiling AROS made by Stanislaw Szymczyk who realized all the support programs and language compilers for making AROS indipendent from GNU/Linux (gcc, make, binutils, coreutils, findutils, sed, bison/yacc, awk and more)...

Now the news are that some of the best AROS users and mainly two of them (Michal Schulz e Hogne "m0ns00n" Titlestad) abandoned main tree of AROS while it is still almost incomplete and decided to create a new OS based on Linux Kernel and use the multi-user structure and memory protection features of Linux while keeping the same ease of use of Amiga.
It is not a sort of fork, because it is not compatible with Amiga.
Quote
This will not be a fork of AROS. Anubis will not be aimed at an Amiga 3.1 compatible operating system. However this will be an Amiga inspired OS. Dr. Schulz will kick this off by stripping the Linux kernel. As for the API, it will be something that can be programmed by using C or C++. This gives developers a choice.
ANUBIS OS is born! o_o

As declared by M0ns00n:
Anubis - "It's not your mummy's operating system!"The main tree of AROS then responded by declaring in the ROADMAP that in the next future they will rewrite main part of AROS and will deprecate all obsolete Amiga API legacy and all retro-compatibility with some Amiga libraries and Graphical Engines like ReAction that is proprietary...
This fact will make things easier avoiding some of the Amiga legacy, but it will increase difficulty fo any future cross-porting of software... ;018

It is a very delicate and difficult moment for AROS to loose some developers while it is still unfinished...
Things like these are very common in Amiga world. ;026
It is common seeing people changing their mind about projects or forking or abandoning projects while close on the finish line... ;014
Sure best amount of comments in Amiga sites stated that these programmers could had helped until AROS 1.0 was finished and then they could had started their own OS. ;018
Quote from: "Aurora Borealis"I think this calls for an Anubis OS-tan! :D
But too bad that AROS got abandoned, and Anubis does not have Amiga OS compatibility :(
It is not abandoned... ;022 ;014
Just some good programmers deserted AROS to create their own OS... ;018
And Perhaps there is a new feature of AROS! ;010
Amibridge will be present in the next release of VMWAROS and it is a sort of "superscript" program capable to run directly Amiga programs calling emulator UAE any time an Amiga program is invoked in AROS... ;012 ;011
