OS-tan Collections

I insist, its weird that a mostly Win-tans site was saved by a Linux-tan!!!

I like all the Windows OS-tans, but specifically XP and 2k. In addition to that, Firefox-ko. Foxgirls and catgirls are uber sexy. ^_^

You know, ive been a fan of the OS Tans for a while, and originaly I would  have said 2k hands down.. but now.. I think its probobly 3.1 oddly enough.  However, 98 and 95 are close seconds.  what can I say I like older systems?

Hi... I'm a newb.  I'm typically a Linux user, but I'm quite a fan of both XPtan and 2ktan...  ;hi  Right now I'm stuck with XP, until I can get my Debian Unstable box back from my mom's house in VA.

Oh, its been almost a year since I became in knowledge about the OS-tans...and 95-tan still rocks!! :D

i still haven't pick a fav yet, right i only like the art, i don't have i character like out for all of them ..... i could say i like them all

About OS-Tans.  I like each and everyone of them...especially ME-tan and Mac Sonata-tan.

But if we're talking about OS-kuns. i'll stick to OS9-kun

I just have to go with my favorite os of all time, 2k-Pro. Suprisingly enough, i realised that i also love my favorite OS's personification most also. I think its the attributes of both that make them so appealing. Well im going with 2k-tan on this one.

EDIT-----Are we counting Firefox-ko and Tunderbird-ko? because i have to change my vote to Firefox-ko then :P

My vote goes to Linux-tan as far as the standard OS-Tan line-up is concerned.  Among the Linux distros, however, her design really isn't my favorite (perhaps due to the low exposure).  In that case, my hat has to go off to Juzo-kun's veeeeeeeeutiful rendition of Fedora-tan.  ^__^

I think it's her "Knoppix-tan", but yes definitely, her art is fantastic.  Not just the artistry, but just the fact that she managed to produce not one or two, but TEN new original OS-tans in very good quality never ceases to amaze me.  (And that's not counting her rendition of GNU/Linux and the second Slackerware pic.)

Even though another cute-looking Knoppix-tan appeared on Waka recently and it follows the Anime-style more closely, I'm still partial to Juzo-kun's version.  If I ever incorporated Knoppix-tan in any of my future drawings, I'd have to stick with 90% Juzo-kun, 5% perhaps some borrowing of version 2's spear and bunny ears, and the remainder my own embellishment.  

One can dream, anyway....  ^__^'

And she definitely did the right thing, but it risks being a vain effort unless people help contribute towards establishing a fanbase.  Without sufficient exposure, this version could very well be considered the "first" Knoppix-tan:

Not that it's a bad rendition (it's quite nice actually), but it's always good to recognize prior efforts.  

(For that matter, maybe there was a prior Knoppix-tan before Juzo-kun's?  There are definitely other versions of Redhat, Fedora and SUSE out there, although not sure of their age...)

There are some few there that haven't got their "rare" ones exposed, not to mention the other "-tans" and "-kuns who are "not in the main cast". But what Juzu-kun did really helped. For me, it doesn't matter if the thing is not that popular. What you like is what you like. If you feel those things then go represent it, I'm sure that's what her purpose is.

Who knows those rare ones have some comic strips although it's either not exposed (what you said) or the other's just can't accept it.

Currently working on a PalmOS-tan picture and already have a PC-DOS-tan picture scheduled right after, but I'm now determined to produce a RedHat-tan / Fedora-tan combo right after that.  I'll try to make as a nod to the Linux community as well as to Juzo-kun's designs.

But anyway, don't want to tangent too far off the original topic.....

For me, I can't decide between 95-tan and Firefox-ko. I like 95-tan because of her split personality between warrior and "average" woman. Also, my first computer ran Windows 95. Firefox-ko, because Firefox is my favorite browser and the character design is the best of all the OS-tans.

Actually, that is in fact Juzo-kun's design, so you now know which design I'll be using for RedHat Linux.  I usually prefer to propagate other people's designs other than my own -- aside from an issue of convenience, it helps expand recognition for the design efforts of others, and paves the way for new canon characters.  ^.^

My take on RedHat-tan?  I'll probably keep her paired with Fedora-tan, since the two form something of a Linux "hit squad" in my mind (probably because of how they're dressed).  I'll likely give it a try in my 4th pic, when both Fedora and RedHat have a little "chat" with certain older members of the Windows Family.  I'll try to keep as much of Juzo-kun's designs as possible, but I'm also interested in blending in some design elements from other RedHat/Fedora renditions I've seen elsewhere (especially in the Gallery).

Ive never really been to 2chan, just 4chan.  But if they are even similar, I fear what kinds of things comes out of it...

Speaking of weird fantasies and shady boards, what exactly would be considered our "competition" [as an English-language OS-tan forum/message board]?  I may act like a petulent pig, but the truth is that I'm still relatively new and unversed in the ways of the OS-tan grapevine.  

The only other such site that I've seen frequented regularly is Wakachan, and even then it's not enitrely devoted to OS-tans.  (Probably the reason I'm so hesitant to post there.)  -__-'

AFAIK, there are no Japanese forums for OS-tans. There are Imageboards, like the one from Nijiura, and some others (I think there was a hentai one, and I remember seeing an small one once). Aside, there is a 2chan "Online Characters" board: http://img.2chan.net/10/futaba.htm , (similar to Wakachan, not only OS-tans). And on top of that, there are the /b/'s boards, the place that gives birth to most OS-tan material ("urban mith", never tried to search in it...its worst than the /b/ on 4chan). As you see, there aren't any known "registered members" forums aside this (I think there were 2 more, but in English, and smaller than this xP, I think)

I'm on one of the other smaller forums, but yes it's definitely "smaller" and not doing too well I'm afraid.  So if I get this straight, it's just us, Waka and the Japanese image boards that are keeping the OS-tan phenomenon updated, eh?

Also, I remember there was another forum with a thread about OS-tans, and I participated in a thread from a Spanish gaming forum, but It died once the server crashed and the pic's were lost =/

Definitly 3.1 and doskitty (they are inseperable) in 1st, then 95 in 2nd, and probobly XP pro or 98 in 3rd. its hard to choose with them.

Good choices. My favorite will always be 95-chan, but I do have a penchant for XPME-tan.

My favorite would be 95-tan, followed by XP-tan (Both Professional and Homeko), CE-tan (I do use a PocketPC for college ;) ), and 2K-tan.

Let me say right away that my favorite operating-system girl is XP-tan, the Professional version.  Having said that, I hasten to add it's my view all the OS Girls are equal in the sight of the Cosmos.  (How am I doing so far?)

Running a distant second to XP-tan would be two girls who aren't affiliated with operating systems per se:  Firefox-ko and Thunderbird-ko.  They're a team, those two, so I don't want to separate them!

XP-tan reminds me of my best friend, though at an earlier age.  You see, I reserve the right to create my own imaginary world for fictional characters; but I respect the various personalities as they've been created by others, unless I find certain traits unflattering ââ,¬â€ in which case I reject them.

For example, this whole business about XP-tan being a gourmand doesn't fit my concept of her; hence, I reject it.  Cast me into the Eternal Fires of OS-tan Hell if you will, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In my little world of make-believe, XP-tan is an Alpha chick who thus incurs the dislike of other young females.  It's that way in real life:  The popular gal with the great body is roundly scorned by other gals, those whose positive attributes they themselves fail to value.

Here's what gets me about Japanese art, as it pertains to anime/games/manga characters and possibly by extension to the OS Girls: How come all the gals have flat butts?  Why are their legs too long?  What's with the pointy chins?  Why the fixation with the combination of laughably-huge breasts, skinny legs and matchstick arms?  How can they breathe or eat with such tiny mouths?

I'm very glad to see the OS Girls aren't necessarily afflicted by these artistic clichés; and that's one reason I like them!  If it were up to Japanese artists the OS Girls would all have mouthless hatchet faces, blimp-like breasts, no butts and dowels for arms and legs.  Three cheers for Occidental fan art!

Hmm...indeed. Yes, anime girls have such small butts and excessively large breasts as a result of what I call the "Two Sheds" paradox. You see, it all depends on the artist. Only two characteristics of the female form can be captured at any time. Quite often it is the breasts, other times it is the buttocks or the legs. Some are fond of the feet, others of the hair or hands. Some believe that females need pe...I'll leave the rest to you.

Thanks for the input, NewYinzer.  I guess in Japan butts, thighs and legs just aren't considered sexy ââ,¬â€ or something.  Either that, or they just haven't figured out how to draw them.  They're not really keen on muscle definition, either.  But breasts, wow!  Big, big, bigger than big!

I can see some Japanese guys now, staring at a rendering of some female anime character:  "Flat butt!  Ooh!  Shapeless legs!  Ahh!"  All right, yes, I'm obviously exaggerating (but not by much).  I noticed from :::: ALIEN1452.COM:::: (http://www.alien1452.com/) that Korean artists have a much better handle on human anatomy than do their Japanese counterparts.

Anyway, that's all a digression from the OS Girls.  The OS-tans I've seen are, in the main, nicely drawn; and for that, I'm thankful!

Well, I have my own explanation to offer in a little bit.  ^__^
But in the meantime, I figured it'd be worthwhile to note that there are exceptions to the rule.  Certainly the Studio Ghibli stuff makes more of an effort to produce slightly-more-realistic female anatomy, not counting all the independent artists who think as you do and thus try to follow the occidental approach.

Okay, time for C-Chan's Official Cost-Benefit Analysis!  ^v^

To put it bluntly, Japanese Animation is meant to be cheap and efficient.  You want to be able to churn out full-length series quickly and on a budget (relative to, say, live-action tv shows/movies).  Fortunately for the Japanese producers, the Japanese themselves were never traditionally very demanding about the quality of the artwork itself (although of course, beautiful animation still remained much-appreciated eye candy).  In contrast, at least before the onset of full-CG animation, parents in the US would raise hill if Disney ever subjected their precious children to 15 frame-per-second crap.

So yes, it's a little bit of regional morphology (e.g., flat butts, short heights, low obesity), a little bit of taste (e.g., balloon cleavage on 70% of all female characters, vast prevalance of "Sailor Moon"-style stilts-for-legs) and a dab of culture (pointy chins based off the "shi" kana, which was probably predates 20th century work).

But the oversimplification of these features, plus the lack of muscle definition, matchstick extremeties and large eyes, is purely cost-driven.  It's easier to animate and more efficient to get your point across; in the case of the eyes, emotions become indisputably clear, wheras in the case of breasts, highlighting them in such a way increases their marketability to target audiences.  I don't recall that tiny mouths were overly-prevalent in early Anime, but the moment it became apparent that "cute" female characters were hot sellers, BEHOLD...!

Now nearly every female character in contemporary Anime has a tiny mouth, tiny nose, memorable eyes, a charismatic demeanor (= not a smartass), and cute legs-arms-breasts-hands-feet-ass-etc....

And obviously it works if it's hooked so many fans around the world.  
(Just ask the Captain what he wants for his birthday.... -v-)

More importantly, however, Anime is ultimately successful because it views the art portion as a means to the end, and not the other way around.  Cheap animation is used to ultimately convey a tantalizing story and rich characters (well, for the most part,... I admit that, just like with regular movies, there's an awful lot of crappy titles floating around).  And it's precisely because the artwork is so efficient, there are enough resources left over to embellish the presentation of said artwork.  Full-motion battle frames and shading/shadowing effects are drawn with equal simplicity, but applied in such a way that it often adds stunning, dramatic and at times breath-taking detail to a scene.

To use an old stereotype, the drawing style has a particular "zen" quality to it: simple, but elegant in its simplicity.

Oh, and I should note that manga often follows this same paradign as well, since it's often a single artist that draws the whole thing himself/herself.  Given the size of the task, and the suffocating competition within the Japanese market, corners must be cut somehow....

They don't all look like that.  Many Japanese artists will base their drawings on what they see.  Namely, Japanese people and American people.  Cuz you the Japanese love American culture.  Why else do they love baseball? And many artists have their own style, too. Some like to go realistic, others cute, others exaggerated sexy. Most are somewhere in between.

Just gotta look for em.

I try to go for more realistic proportions meself.  But Jeff needs to learn how to draw real people first. Even though anime is a simplified form of the human body, a good understanding of the real human body is almost required for the amazing anime artist.

Thank you very much, C-Chan, for your clear and witty explanation of what's what anatomy-wise in the anime genre!  I forgot to mention the impossible cranial hair some characters have, but that oddity doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as the ridiculous anatomy.

Again, that's one of the big reasons I like the OS Girls:  They tend to look like human beings ââ,¬â€ very nice-looking humans, to be sure, in most cases.  So, artists of OS-tans, keep up the good work!

Funny you should mention it....
Compare early 90's enemy with most of the contemporary stuff, and you'll note that there has generally been a signficant reduction in character detail.  However, since there is still a demand for at least baseline-quality animation, the simpler style is compensated with additional eye-candy (rasor-sharp detail, vibrant color, computer-assisted special effects, beautiful music, more dramatic story-telling, etc.).  In this case, I'd recommend comparinig 'Ah! My Goddess' the original OVA with 'Ah! My Goddess' the new TV series.  -v-

In contrast, American animation studios (and for that matter, Canadian ones) are a lost cause.  Budget restrictions, coupled with the child-centric approach, ultimately leads to the travesties that kids are made to watch these days.  In most cases, literally two huge eyes on some talking stilts....  Ã,¬__Ã,¬

Pixar/Brad Bird:  CG animation, the new "thing" that's "in".  -v-'
Not bad in itself if done right, but certainly displaced traditional 2D animation here.

Matt Groening: cheaply drawn also, but it's a comedy so it compliments it.  Unfortunately it could still classify as an an adult cartoon, so kids still won't necessarily be exposed to it.

Parker/Stone: even MORE cheaply done, but again compliments the comedy and helps their series go on endlessly.  (Plus their last movie was with CG and puppets.)  Even LESS for kids.

Family Guy:  same reasons above.  Besides I kinda like this one.  Never did say we couldn't do comedy (even if it is crude) -- just said we've let the artist quality of our animation, especially for children's programming, degrade... A LOT.

Considering what I watched when I was a kid, I worry that my own kids will have nothing to watch but shallow animation with shallow stories.  That's why I stock up on excellent titles now.  That includes really old Disney, as well as Miyazaki and the like.  -v-

I agree! New Disney sucks! Cmon' science! Unfreeze Walt Disney ASAP! Kids animation is sorely lacking, not just in Disney, but in Nickelodeon and and Cartoon Network! What is all this crap about Invader Zim being cancelled for Fairly Odd Parents? That series was off the hizzle!

2k-tan was my introduction to the OS-tan phenomenon, and so has a special place.  I am quite interested to see how the rest of the OS-tans coming out would develop...

......When finals are over in december, Jeff would really want to go on a drawing-spree. Provided the watching anime-spree and finishing games-spree don't interfere. ^^;

Furthermore, for acceptance, I believe that getting artists to draw them all over the place (ie outside of this community) would really help.  And if it ends up in 4chan and 2chan, then success! ^^

1. The first one is obvious (just look my signature): go XP-tan go!!:D
(I have a lot of reasons but I can't write them all because of the limited place to write:))
2. The second one is 2k-tan (combination of intelligence and beauty)
3. The third one is 95-tan because ... she is a classic.

My favavorites right now is 3.

1. 3.1 sama - Her light-purple dress sometimes look likes white. I also like her red eyes too. In my opinion, white represents purity. I think most fanarts make her look cute! > 3 <
2. Vis-tan (ninja) - Maybe she looks fast and active like me sometimes?

3. ME-tan - She's also cute! I like her ! ribbon and her hair. That's not enough, me and ME-tan also have the same birthday!

yeah cus ME needs a radar detector cus shes always speeding along SO fast -_-  Tho, I dont recomend those things. If you do get pulled over it just about makes getting a ticket a sure thing. Because you have a device whos sole purpose is to help you break the law. Busted.

My faves: Secchan and XP!!
Secchan simply out of nostalgia and having used her the longest on my old IBM Aptiva desktop with voodoo 3 and AMD K6 366MHz (it was like the latest thing in '99), I still used that thing for like 5 years after i got it. And I used win3.11 a lot too when i was little.
and XP for her stability (yes it's pretty damn stable) when you feed XP enough she'll never let you down!
well it of course takes 1GB of high quality Corsair RAM and and AMD64, BUT it runs very smoothly :)

Mines getting fed off of 4 gigs of ram, shes quite happy and fat.


Tho Ill stick to my choices of 3.1 and doskitty, Hacchan, and 95.  I grew up with those systems and I love the design.

i think he just answered both, vista has even MORE special effects and animated menus, windows,etc. as far as i saw in some videos of it in action.

a) Portayed as very dependable (a big plus in my opinion)
b)The version of windows I use most (though I use OS X or Fedora more)
c) the first OS-tan I ever saw.

Hacchan is 98-tan, portrayed as a schoolgirl wearing a navy blue and white school uniform with the Windows logo on her tie, has a blue "Zatch Bell"-inspired mech box which she usually hides in. Often seen with 98SE-tan.

Personally i think the mac-tans are all too pale...but that's probably because there's way less people caring about them.

Anyways, my personal favorite...I can't decide on one, but the top is Inu-T, 2k-chan and 95-sama. Inu-T, cause she's a...dog...and irresistibly kawaii; 2k-chan because, well, meganekko, need i say more?; and 95-sama...one word. MOOD SWINGS. Well, come to think of it, I agree NejinOniwa.. at least if I understood him correctly (pale? as in.. like shallow?)  Their designs are cute I guess... but honestly just making a cat girl with the patern the system is named after.. dosnt seem to original or inovative. again you all know I hate boring tans that arnt that well thought out.  I like Sonata, the cute artist girl that throws bombs when she gets really angery.. but these cat ones.. i havent heard anything about them that makes me think there is any depth to their character.  Like NejinOniwa said about the windows tans.. they all have something unique visualy and personality wise to make them lovable.  and there isnt a set system to it.. otherwise vista would have been top heavy, ate ungodly abounts of food and would wear nothing but tape over her nipples cus the system eats more and pays more to visual look then anything else from what ive seen, but instead.. shes a fucking ninja.  or a sailor scout.. or... well you get the idea. they make each unique and for that they are more interesting.  and this is coming from a rabid supporter of cat girls.

You're right, I agree that the OS X cat girls are rather under developed. My reasoning is:

a) While each of the actual OS's has differed quite a bit, graphically, they are mostly the same

b) Apple deployed six versions of OS X (counting Intel vs. PPC) in six years, whereas Microsoft released one. This gives the artists less time to explore possible variations and give depth

c)Less people draw Mac-tans = Less variations = Less Ideas

Still I really like Leopard-tan!

Reasoning C pretty much sums it all in a nutshell.  -v-

Sonata-san and Generic-san were both pretty bland for me as well at first,... up until I encountered the legendary Mac Manga.  After reading through 68 pages of finely-crafted insanity and perversion, suddenly I have characters who's seedy antics far surpass those of anything Homeo and Friends could dish out.  -v-

As for the OSX girls, we'll see....

Aurora and I will work hard to create some more propaganda material.  -v-

Variations is the big complaint people have about tans these days!! Like the consel tans, cant find a consistant design!

Problem with that C-Chan is that.. one manga should not define a character in this fandom.  The PC oses have personalitys that every artist (well jsut abotu every) understands and captures in their drawings.  their personality comes from the countless individuals drawing them and supporting them.  

You can try, but I doubt that one person can creat enough propoganda to turn the tide. You will need a much better meathod to attract people to their character if you hope to supass the PC OSes.. that and your going to have to change the fact that the MS oses are more used in the world so more people can appriciate the quirks in thier characters.

But returning back to the topic at hand, when it comes to the Mac-tans we come face to face with the dreaded Catch 22 of the OS-tan world....

More artists won't volunteer to draw a single design unless it's guaranteed to be popular (otherwise, why bother,... just draw your own).  And yet,... it can't be popular unless more artists volunteer to draw that design.  ^___^'

It worked for the Windows-tans due to the novelty at the time, and (as you say) because of the huge user space.  Macs, naturally, are seriously outgunned.  Said fanbase gives the Windows-tans such gems as the legendary XP YouTube thingie and the OS-tan Idol video.  The Mac fanbase, on the other hand, barely scrapes by with a cute albeit easily overlooked manga.  -v-

So in all seriousness it would seem we're screwed,...
But I say it's time for a rallying call, and a complete rethink on how we're gonna go about evening the odds.  ^__^

We've got images, they've got images.
We've got manga, they've got [sporadic] manga.
But we have miniscule multimedia, and they have a shotload.  -___-

dont get me wroung -_- we arnt coming down on you.. just pointing it out.  as supporters of the tans we have to be very carefull not to repeat their mistakes.  Also.. if we show too much support of thier stuff that could be bad as well (that and i think NTs designe in those comics was terribly unoriginal)

It was Wikipe-tan that really got me into this,... and once I scanned the entire available cast of canon OS-tan, I switched automatically to "what if" mode.  ^^

Not really. It will take a while to give her USB-support, a decent network-stack, support for all kinds of filesystems, multiuser-capabilities, but it takes some time to code that into her. Nothing else has the pig said.

Fork her? Then she'd no longer be the 95 I know. That's not so awesome, IMHO.  But I think went into the real OS'es field, instead of OS-tans.

As for real OS'es, Windows XP
And I still don't see a good reason in releasing old OS'es as Open Source, and 99.99% of the chances are that they'd be Toy OS'es.

Not like you can buy laptops with Linux included (well, I think they do, they're just not easy to find here), so I'll have no other choice than Vista. And from what I have heard from Vista users I know, its not really restrictive at all, even when they have a LOT of content which would force any DRM program to lockdown the entire computer. Still, will see in a few months what happens, but I seriously doubt it would force me to change OS preference. If it works fine for me, then I see no reason to change it.

And even If Vista turned out to be as evil as some people say it is, then I'd rather change to a Linux distro  =P

Do keep in mind that the Captain long ago said he'd love to install Windows 3.1-sama on his Dell XPS laptop (the one with all that red), so already we have people who would be really really interested in having their favorite vintage OS work with modern hardware.  

While she would be released by M$ as a "toy" for compute hobbyists, the number of Windows fans FAR outnumber Linux ones, and (coupled with the existing library of OSS knowledge and applications vs what was available 15 years ago) 3.1-sama would turn into a dual-core processing, DVD-reading, server-running, 3D-accelerated uber OS very quickly!  ^___^

Another thing is that sooner or later, people will want to port "Open3.1-sama" to other systems, as they've done with Linux.  Imagine running "Open3.1-sama", not just in the laptop you have (no point in buying it with Linux preinstalled, btw, if you can install it yourself for free on any old laptop), but also in your Palm, your Playstation, your PowerPC, your ARM computer, your SPARC server, your IBM mainframe, etc.


There's a strong reason why OS/2 fans begged IBM to let her be open source.  That's because they know, as do many other people, that open source is a system's ticket.... to immortality.  ^____^

I already got virtual PC and im downloading 3.1 and msdos 6.22 through a torrent right now... she just wont do alot of modern things when i play with her.. tho my old games will work again

The Linux kernel has changed rather much over the time: It used to be a hack to get to know the PC Linus used. Some C files had as much Assembler-code as C-code in it for that reason. it was not preemptible it did not support several architectures, more than one CPU, more than one filesyystem... ll these things meant the architecture of the kernel changed rather much over the time!

That first statement of yours was about a certain usage of a MacOS(?) in which according to you that you find 3.1 is easier and simple. We're not against that, that's your thing-we respect that. You know, to be true...I'm not comfortable everytime I compare your first statement to your second statement. I don't find certain relevance and connection to the other. The first one seems to be a more observing statement, but the second one seems to be hateful and aggressive to the opposing brand despite of having many credits recieved.

I have the feeling that regardless you hate ALL the Macs, you have spawned an unlikely despise even though I'm sure you haven't experience the current new version/s of OSX  on a standard period of time-maybe days, months or years of usage.

Every time i use a mac I rue the experience. I dont like the feel of it.  Every time i go back and try to give it another chance i quickly feel like I made that judgement in error. It has nothing to do with the brand name I could care less about that. Im the one that complains the most when someone rants about not using windows because of how evil microsoft it.  I dont like the way its used. I dont think Ive ever had a good experience with a mac, baybe the cosmos has just decended bad fate upon me, but thats the way it has been.

Both of the 98s are my favorites. Sometime-shy, little troublemakers. I like how Hacchan looks more than I do with Secchan though, but I like Secchan's ferocious attitude.

I also like 3.1. I think she is absolutelyyyyyyy adorable, and really, her clothes are so pretty. And who doesn't love the cute little dos cat? ;o

Now that I know more about the OS-tans, I actually like most of the characters....Homeko (and Saseko) I like purely on the association with my favorite OS, Windows XP. But characters like Amiga-sama, Linux-sama, OS X Tiger-tan as well as quite a few others, I also like...come to think of it, the only characters I dislike are Dr. Norton-kun, and I guess the OS X-kuns...XD

I agree! I think she looks much cuter in pix where she's portrayed more realistically and not such a hog with food. I think she's active, fun-loving and is good looking out for her "master"; although, unlike Vistan, she knows that maybe master knows something she doesn't and trusts his/her judgment. I think she'd be very angry at Vistan, too, and is now probably closer with 2k-tan because of Vistan.

I'll be honest; I love Windows but I want M$ to lose business to their competitors. It's like the US auto companies back in the 50s/60s; until more better built foreign car started showing up, the manufacturing was very haphazard. It's a funny thing how competitors breathing down one's neck will motivate one to pick up quality.

But if there's "no" competition, they can really do as they like.

Actual, you hit the nail on one of my arguments.  M$ has to be credited for at least bringing computers to so many households (though whose to say now if some other system, like a better marketed Amiga, couldn't have done the same?), but after 15 years of being on top of the world they've developed (like most monopolies) quite a bit of gawl and it really shows in the decision-making for Vista-Final.

A startup company, or one hoping to preserve your business, may try everything in its power to keep your business and satisfy almost anything you kindly submit in writing or emails or petitions.  But if a monopoly already has you locked into a particular set of software, and keeps you isolated to the fact that other alternative OSes exist, then they have free reign to be jackasses.

Want continued support and upgrades for Windows ME?  Or DX10 for XP?
"Tough.  Get a REAL computer running a REAL OS like Vista."

Want Vista to support some more legacy graphics cards?
"Tough.  Don't you know you have to replace your graphics card every 2 months, ya cheapskate?"

Want them to use ODF rather than that ridiculous so called "OpenXML"?

Unfortunately, that's somewhat true. Microsoft should change his strategy, stop being too aggressive and actually learning to improve their OS's far more than their counterparts.
I don't see Mac as a real threat to Microsoft. Linux is the most  serious threat, but it's not close enough yet to deal a fatal blow. I guess that's why Microsoft is still trying to attack them instead of learning.

In first place for me is 2K-tan. She's the perfect combination of cute and sexy. (Plus, whenever I do need to make a quick Windows machine, I always put 2K on it.)
Second place is the 98-tan and 98SE-tan "twins." Outright cuteness.
Third place, 3.1-tan. Yet another cutie I can't get enough of.

Notable mention, Homeko. Somehow, she manages to make sweatpants and a zippered sweatshirt look sexy.

If my decision was based on OS, rather than girl, I would say 95-tan.  But seeing as it's based on girl, it's kind of a tie between XP-tan and 3.1-tan.  They're both equally cute, but I think I'd like XP-tan better if she had smaller breats.  They're a tad too big at times for my tastes.

I associate myself more with Xp Professional-tan. Cute but not loaded down with silly sparkley things, carefree, buddies around with her sisters, and she is on the chubby side, like me!

I truly, truly wish more XP-tan pictures showed her with a cute pudge belleh. This may sound funny, but when I was having body issues seeing pictures of a chubby Xp-tan actually cheered me up, and helped me to be comfy in my own skin.

The big boobies are just a plus next to the cushion!

Win2k tan is too busty ;271  as smart, strong and she likes experiments(i tested rare dos apps with her), but i really love os9tan. She is small, friendly and beauty even with 16 colors(and she have boobs too!!!). also i can talk(really) with her via speech. Unfortunately she has condemned by Steve Jobs in 2002(search "Mac Os 9 is dead") and a disaster in my powerbook vanished her from my systems.

I miss Mac OS 9. :( It was one of my favorite Mac OSes. Mac OS 8 was very good too and so was System 7 except for System 7.5 which I thought was terrible. System 6 is another favorite and is the version of the Classic Mac OS I use*! :D The earlier Mac OSes I'm not sure about because although I've read all about them, I've never used them. :-\

I'd have to go with Vista U-tan. Something about her just seems comforting. (maybe it's the power of Vista. lol) I prefer Vista just over a XP OS. I did only use XP and never thought that Vista would be my next best friend. Now I have a few problems with XP (might be hardware issues) and my Vista runs faster than I could want her too.

No OS is perfect, its important to get the one that works best for you.  BTW, which vesion of vista ultimate?  the green haired one?

Now that I think about it.... There are still many different versions of Vista-tan. (plus there are the 3 versions as to home, business and ultimate)

Unfortunatly for kuns the pickings are slim... XP is down right scary, and homeo is well.. homeo. the 98s look like superheros which Im not a fan of, and Ive only seen one or two pictures of 3.1kun.. tho he's got some charm in some pics. Looks like one of those awesome old japanese guys.

Eh, pretty much... nearly all male players at the time, and only a handful of male OStans.. nearly no girls to play OStans.  There were some other non OStan RPs but i think the rather died off quickly..

Well Xp-tan will always be my favourite, but others I'm not sure about it...

I use XP-tan, and like her, but my favourite OS-tan is Firefox-tan. (Unfortunately she isn't an OS. Maybe they should make one of her...)

I like Nanami because, she does not stand out too much, she's cute, efficient and very happy! I think it is the themepack that is doing that, but I ran three VM's at the same time on my tablet, and still held up. Very dependable and does things a lot better than Vista-tan on the same equipment. The only one that talks to you while use run "her".
