Title: XPtan Desktop Mascot
Post by: Samidare on October 20, 2008, 09:24:18 AM
Here is the XP-tan desktop mascot I made from frame by frame jpeg of the movie clip at the downloads section using 'Apricot', a japanese RSS reader desktop mascot program. It moves exactly like the movie clips. You need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or above to use the program.
http://rapidshare.com/files/156103213/Apricot.rar.html
By the way, it's a "files that have not been accessed for 90 days are deleted" file. Oh, right click the program for the menu to change character! There are two extra character inside it. (Not my creation)

It's not perfect but if you know how to edit the script you can control how she talks.
Here is the 'Apricot' character making guide, if you know japanese.

25 megs for a desktop mate? Whoa, there!
Still, more megs mean more quality - usually, at least. Let's try it!

Added after 1 hours 4 minutes:

Hm. It doesn't seem to be working for me. First it just allocated some 12 megs and then insta-died, so I had to replace the standard x86 files with the x64 files included. Now it gives me this error message in the Trace.log logfile:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Unable to find the specified file.
  at Apricot.Script.Parse(String path)
  at Apricot.Program.Main()

Care to help, anyone?
I found myself looking at the Script python files, but I couldn't find any matching entries, so I really dunno.

Added after 2 minutes:

Oh, and Samidare: Since RS does delete its files, you could just try uploading the package HERE instead, in the "Downloads" sections. Of course, I'd be happy if you fixed this bug first... -_-

Hmm.... I don't have this problem. I'm not a computer expert so I don't know much. Just a guess, maybe I mess up something inside the character script. Try replace this script I'm using now with the old one.
It's large because the image folder are full with snapshot of the video.
I assure you it move just like a video.

I also repack the folder and upload it again, if it's missing file problem. I've change the download link above.

I've upload once to the test section, but that's the older version. Can you delete it? It's "Apricot with XPtan".

I highly doubt it's the character scripts that are wrong, since there after all are two other characters included in the package. The program is alive for approximately 2 seconds.

I'm no admin or mod or anything, and I don't know if mods can delete downloads - if that is so, just ask Aurora-tan (http://ostan-collections.net/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=307) for assistance. Otherwise, it'll be deleted in the future anyway since it's in the test section, so don't worry. My recommendation is to upload it to the Games section.

Sorry that I can't help you. Does the other character works for you? I'm using windows XP, so I don't know if this program works on windows Vista. By the way, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required.

I have Windows XP x64 with .NET Framework 3.5 installed, so that shouldn't be any issue. Like I said, I can't even get the core program module to load, so I can't even get to the part where I can select any character at all. Likely it's something missing in the core, but since it's running properly elsewhere I don't see why that could be...

Unless, of course, it's just STUPID STUPID x64 shitting me again.

Well, I don't know... I wonder if it works for the others? It's quite heavy for the computer.

Probably someone else on your range occupying your slot.
Don't worry, RS sucks but not that much. It should pass.

Son. Apricot is filled with more bunny bugs than a Warner Bros furry convention. Just let go.

glad no one fulfilled my request!

idk where to put it, so it goes here:
http://qruqru.sakura.ne.jp/download.html
translate the page and then look; they have an ME-tan desktop mascot! she's not half bad, too; her voice is quite cute. ^^

also, on the note of apricot not working, i got it to work on this pc. it was slow and froze a bit, but it worked.

i should mention though that since it's a mod and didn't come from the official site, (http://www.apricotan.net/) that might be the reason it's fairly buggy. :\
