As of late, due to my lack of 'Wii/XBox360/PS3/ANYthing of the next gen class, I've resorted to playing my old games (I'm surprised they still work).
In short, what're some of the old games we all like to play, just for that good ol' Nostalgia feelin'
Me? I re-played Super Mario World and All-Stars a couple times And have even gone so far as to dust off my Game Gear (lol, I actually have one of those) and play some 'Tails Adventure'
So c'mon let's share shall we
i still play doom on a regular basis. classic and still fun. That and ive been playing castlvania SOTN alot recently, trying to get achivements on my 360 for a game i love
...there's an old NES in my house. I found it once (sometime 'round 2002) in a garbage room. Fully functional, and with two controllers and an extra game and all. (That was Top Gun, if you'd like to know.)
I got slightly mad at the people who'd done this to this fine piece of hardware, but then I thought like, oh whatever, and traded the garbage I was holding for a nice old retro console. Since we'd had one NES before (which unfortunately had broke, though) we had some more games at home, and since then it's been a lot of Super Mario Bros 3 around here.
-w-
(Unfortunately ALL my various gameboy variants are broken, so I can't play pokemon ;_;)
Quote from: "NejinOniwa"Fully functional
There is no such thing as broken NES.
It still got my NES at the tv, between the gamecube and the PS2. My N64 is at moment not there because of the lack of space.
Wasn't so long ago when I played Barker Bill's Trick Shooting on the NES.
Zapper gun FTW!
Too bad the other controllers A-button is broken because of excessive International track&field playing, heh.
Kinda dissapointing how I never got around getting Super mario bros. 3.
Nowadays they cost pretty much, for being a 17 year old game.
Wonder if my savestate is still alive on my pokemon blue?
Very long time since I played that game. Got game boy pocket just because of that game, later I was stupid and sold it, only to get the game boy advance.
Still, my ultimate favorite old videogames got to be Snakes Rattle&Roll and Kung-Fu on the NES.
QuoteWonder if my savestate is still alive on my pokemon blue?

Ha! I actually made it and got all the 150 pokemons on that one. GUESS if i was proud, being some 9 years old and all... ^-^
Added after 31 seconds: Oh, and it should be. Mine still are, and i've had it since it was released. ^-^
My cousin used to have an NES, but he sold it. we used to play Bubble Bobble on that thing...good times...
my N64 is still hooked up with Conkers Bad Fur Day still in it, in which case I play time n' time again.
I still have the original PS, (I have no idea where I put it last, lol) in which I Speed Run on Crash Bandicoot to see how far I can go (secrets n' all) without saving
Hm, I still have Pokemon Yellow, don't know how far in it I am though...only a lvl 76 Pikachu and an unstoppable Nidoking come to mind. My savestate for Pokemon Silver went kaput sometime ago...which is sad, cuz I had over 113 pokemon in it (most of which were Pokemon I had to trade over from Gold which was a real pain...I hate trading...)
I still play the first Tekken games every now and then, I also play through Xenogears sometimes.
I have quite a few consoles, I'm a bit of a collector in that sence.
NES - Works, some games refuse to play such as my copy of super mario bros 3, some work fine, like Ninja Gaiden
Super NES - Works fine, I lost a controller a while back when my pet rabbit got out of the cage and chewed clean through it. I had another one though.
N64 - Works, A while ago I traded my original N64 for a Neo-orange unit they had at gamestop. Everything works fine, one of the best reliable systems I've ever owned
Gamecube - Works, not that old, I have three controlers for it, one of which stopped working recently
Wii - Works, perhaps my favorite of the current Next-gen consoles, no problems yet.
Sega Genesis - I have two of these, An original genesis which no longer works, and a "Genesis 2" model which is just a tiny bit smaller it works great, the power cord gets HOT though if you play it for too long.
Sega Saturn - Works, Though there's this odd feedback sound on the tv when the disc is reading sometimes.
Sega Gamegear - Doesn't work, this never really worked to begin with, I got it at a thrift shop, where some Idiot had left the batteries in for far too long, they were still there. Some of the leaked acid from them got on the 1 and 2 button's internal terminal. In my attempt to get it apart to clean this I accidently broke the Lcd screen -_- rest in peace.
Nintendo VirtualBoy - Unknown, I have two of these, one's controller is broke. The same reason as the gamegear is, the last owner left the batteries in too long, and they destroyed the power terminals in the controler. (yes, the virtualboy's controller is it's powersource)
The controller un-plugs from the system however, and the console itself is in good condition. I have another controller that came with my second VB system along with a Ac/dc adaptor to plug it in. However I can't determine if they work or not because I have no games for them.
I have..
2 Consoles
2 Controlers
1 Stand
1 outlet adaptor
Nintendo Gameboy - Works I have two of these, the original grey giant that takes four AA cells. Both work fine.
Nintendo Gameboy Pocket - Works, Only one of these, Yellow in color works fine. Takes two AAA cells which don't really last a long time in it.
Nintendo Gameboy Color - Works, I have two of these, One Neo-purple (which is basicly transparent purple) and one yellow, both work, but I've lost the little door that keeps the batteries from falling out, not to worry, they still stay in there pretty good
Nintendo Gameboy Advance - Works, I have two of these, one in "Glacier" which is a neat hazy white-purple color. the other is "Special Platinum Edition" Both work fine. But they tend to eat batteries like....Some big fat battery eating thing..
Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP - Semi Works, By which I mean The screen is broke, the actual inner workings of the SP are fine, when you turn it on you can still hear the game running and doing things, sound effects, music, even the buttons still work. but the screen is broke. It just stopped working one day when I accidently dropped it..No dead pixels, or looming black globs of liquid crystals.
Sony Playstation - Works, The original gray PSX still works fine.
Sony PSOne - Works, The remake of the PSX in a sleek white design, works good.
Sony Playstation 2 - works, Poor thing is on it's last leg.. The hinge on the disc tray door broke, the prong on the cover not the tray itself, so any "replacement cover" would fix this. however it's lost the little plastic things that secure the contoler prongs, so I often have to push controllers up at an angle to get them working. Just recently It's stopped reading discs, When I put a disc in it'll start whirring and reading like it should, though this silence is broken by a loud *POP POP* noise that often clicks three or four times. Sometimes It just refuses to read certain discs, such is the case of "Bionicle, The game" the disc itself if fine, but the PS2 won't read it.."Disc read error"
Sony PSP - Works great, got it last year, It amazes me just awesome.
I love the internet browser *which shows up as a type of netscape* 7.0 i think.
Nintendo DS - Works Great. I got it a year or two ago, no flaws or glitches.
Mostly because I'm very gentle and caring with my systems, most the kids who end up breaking their touch screens and screen hinges are just brutes with it...
I own most of the Mario and Sonic series games, Including the harder to find ones like Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic R.
Fun fact: Did you know that the "Thing" we got here in the US wasn't the original Super Mario Bros 2? It was a ripoff of another game, nintendo just replaced some of the sprites. Same music. The Irate Gamer did a special on it. The Original "Super Mario Bros 2" was only released in japan. Nintendo thought it'd be "Too similar" or something so they ripped off another game *I think it was doki doki panic or something such* and marketed it as "Super Mario Bros 2"
The original was later released everywhere else under the name "Super Mario Bros, the Lost levels" in Super Mario Bros All stars on the SNES.
It's also now available for download in the Wii shop channel. If you have wii points that is...
That's right! The Super Mario Bros. 2 (later released in Japan as "Super Mario Brothers USA") game that was released in the US is a remake from an unrelated game called "Dream Factory Doki Doki Panic". It is just like that game but with slightly improved graphics and replacing some of the characters with Mario characters.
Because it is a remake of an unrelated game, that is why SMB2 has such a different plot from the other SMB games (Peach does not need to be saved, she is a playable character, plot involves going into a dream world, throwing vegetables) and is the "odd one out".
Also, some of the characters that are now in the Mario series are actually from Doki Doki Panic! (including Phanto, Shy Guy, Pidgit and Birdo)
The "Lost Levels" game wasn't released outside of Japan because it is almost just like the original but much more difficult and probably wouldn't have sold well.
Age of Empires I.
I love it still. -w-
My favoryte of all times is the original NES Tetris, I still have my Family Computer (NES, In Argentina is called Family) with a few cartidges with this very good game, some time i lost a few hours playing it.
For the PC Gmaes i don't have any favorite game, I like play any tipe of game except Sports, for the rest Arcade, Action, Strategy, racing, etc i like a lot!!! :)
I admit it: sometimes, I boot up a windows-box (at my parents) and play endorfun ;105 ;107
._. *stares at kami-tux*
I know, I know... I am getting inspiration for a clone for Linux... k? BTW: I'd be glad if you had a better name than Mimd for it....
RIVER CITY RANSOM! CASTLEVANIA ! COMMANDO! jajajaja, and some others from commodore 64 like FORBIDEN FOREST, ARCHON... well, i like a lot. jajajajaja.
I installed DOS-Box to play Dune 2 and Wolfenstein 3d
And I have a SNES with Zelda alttp, Street fighter 2 and Mario all stars I also have the Nintendo Scope (great fun).
a PSX with Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 1, 2 and 3, Wip3out and Fifa 97. a N64 with Zelda OOT, Zelda MM Carmageddon64, and a xbox with Burnout 3.
As per handheld I have a PSP with Tekken DR and Burnout dominator. a GBC and a GBA with the original tetris, wolf3d and Doom...
Plenty of old-school gaming for me, then
It's the gameplay that counts ;010
I cant play the PSX metal gear solid anymore now that i have the game cubes Twin Snakes. Same with the original resident evil. The GC remakes were just too awsome to go back from.
Lesson learned - Some remakes are actually WORTH it...

Well the psx had grafx issues that really showed. But I don't yet have a gamecube, and I'd probably buy Zelda WW and Zelda TP first when I get one... 'cause Zelda rules supreme in console land...
Holy crap how could I forget about the awesomeness that is the Metal Slug series! it's so chaotic O,o
Yeah, I've been messin around with that lately, I like playin as Fio <3
Since I wasn't cool enough to own many SNES games during its era, ROMs bring me back to the golden era of RPGs on a 16-bit console. Secret of Evermore and Earthbound currently are the ones I frequent.
One game that I have only beaten twice in my entire life...and on the easiest difficulties, too... was X-Com: UFO Defense. It was a game that came on 3 floppy disks! O: Build bases, defend the Earth, don't let them alien mind control your countries that give you funding...eventually find them on Mars... good times. :D And it was half RPG too, since your soldiers leveled up and improved and gained rank.[/size]
I have a nes, sega01, sega02, sega cd, snes, cdi, N64, ps1, ps2 Gamecube, gameboy color, GBA, Game gear, psp.
I old this old system i need get working agin so i can buy more lol

Didn't CD-i came only with rip-offs of other games (mario, zelda etc.)?
Quote from: "Smokey"Didn't CD-i came only with rip-offs of other games (mario, zelda etc.)?
Nintendo did wrong in giving Philips the Licence to make games.
So they kinda weren't rip offs.
Srsly, weren't the animation and voice acting made in russia or something?
I cant wait to bomb dadangos!!
Who's dadangos?
*getting the feeling that I'm a total spanner and quietly sneaking off to a safe place*
look up the CDi zelda.. and all will become clear...
Dodongos, amirite? Those lizardy thingies in Zelda.
wotever T.T
Ow riight, those guys...stupid me they were in OOT too :D thanks nejin.
I'm surprised a bit that my copy of the very first Gran Turismo works to this day... 7 years and still going. My PS2 is in a closet, PS1 got sent to a friend. I never owned any truly old-school consoles but my cousins and I still sometimes play Mortal Kombat II and F-ZERO on their SNES. Ah, those were the days.
Not only is this game great shooting exercise, It has bunny girl.
And Parrots, THOSE GODDAMM PARROTS!(sorry, you need to play the game to understand the frustration they give)
I never owned a SNES so my SNES gaming has been limited mostly to roms, Seiken Densestu 3 as an expample of an incredibly good game that for some weird reason didn't make it's way outside japan. I can't remember how many times I've played through that game.
I sometimes start up my ol' N64 for some F-Zero X, musik FTW, even thought the game is "only" 10 years old.
I still beat my friend in F-Zero X and Smash Bros. 64.
Though, I'm pretty much par with him in F-Zero GX...
But when it comes to Smash Bros. Melee... I'm teh No.1 Punchingbag.(I blame nintendo for weakening pikachu soo much)
QuoteBut when it comes to Smash Bros. Melee... I'm teh No.1 Punchingbag.(I blame nintendo for weakening pikachu soo much)
Oi, oi. -w-;
He was WAY overpowered in the original, that's why ^-^; If you want something to grossly outpower your enemies with in SSBM, then try teh Jigglypuff. Rollout+Pound+Rest+Buttloads of fancy flying=INSTANT WIN. -w-
Heres a hint.. if your a punching bag with pikachu.. CHANGE CHARACTERS.
that or HIT THEIR WEAK POINT FOR MAXIMUM DAMAGE!
I'm with the captain here, I learned that lesson with Tekken 3....
Or you can always buy a Wii and get COMFIRMED FOR BRAWL!!!!!
If you have room for one.....
CHIPS CHALLENGE PLZ.
Actually I finally got a hold of a copy of FF9 again... it's been seven years since I played it ;_; I don't care what you say! It's the best one!!
NEIN! 7 is the best!!
?? Final Fantasy ?? Never played it...
*runs for his dear (soon to be over) life*

Sorry, had to replace avvi with one matching ME's (my new rank :D) personality... ;010
Hweh.. o.o * pats Smokey * Thats alright if you havn't played it.. I just highly recommend that you do.
Seven was good... but I couldn't finish it! I'd play for two hours then fall asleep for five ;__; Not because I thought it was boring or anything... I don't know whats wrong with me T___T And really, the fanbase for it got so bad that I just gave up... I knew what happened anyway. * sigh *
well it'd make good company for Metal Gear Solid, I guess... FF was for the PSX untill FFX, right?
PlayStation... o.o yes...
Yes I do old-skool, too :D
*looks at his Nintendo Scope and his Super Advantage*
o.o! * has a COMMODOR 64 party *
I have one... I just don't have games for it. * stares ahead blankly *
;018 why wouldn't you have gamez for your PSX?
Because all the games I had were actually my stepfather's games, and he didn't let me keep any when my parents divorced ;_;
that's harsh....
^ ^;; Ahaha...
So have you played Odin's Sphere?
eehm, no I was really picky on what games i bought..
I've only played Zelda (OOT, MM, ALTTP, WW, TP, MC),Metal gear solid, Tekken 3, Fifa 97, Carmageddon, Wolf3d, Dune2, Mario (1, 2, & 3, MW, SMAS), Street fighter, Mortal kombat, and all SimCity's (among some others, and of course the new stuff... Like FEAR!!!! über pwnage, FEAR... all three of them...)
mmm Delicious FEAR.
Well if you like FEAR like I do, I'm happy :D
(that game creeps into me and unleashes absolute terror and suspense, shortening my lifespan significantly)
Indeed :3 tho i hear "fear 2" working title, you wont play a fear operitive.. rather youll play as a Delta force member instead.
Still, I hear it will still have Alma and Paxton Fettle
But thats hardly an OLD game I used to play :P
ITT, we derail? ^^
Also, old pokemon games FTW. I actually completed my pokedex on Yellow.
Quote from: "NejinOniwa"Also, old pokemon games FTW. I actually completed my pokedex on Yellow.
AGREED. <3 I completed my Hoenn pokedex in my Emerald a few months back.
And again...Never played pokémon, because i was a MTG-man (MTG roolz...well the old editions do, now i just get slaughtered by those equipment-based decks)
MTG was never my call. I've never really understood it, and everyone who ever played it seemed to make it way too much SERIOS BUSINES for me to bother.
hmm that's why i stopped playing it...Nobody would take the time or effort to understand it while it's really simple...Thay just label you as an alto
...alto?
As in Alto Saxophone?
Or have i missed something here?
Alto as in dutch slang for freak who doesn't "do" mainstream stuff... Sorry for not translating, I hoped it'd be self explanatory
Ah, something like Alto -> Alternative, you mean? I get it now. Well, to someone else it might've been obvious, but I've been in musical education for my entire life, so i've got the meaning of Alto etched into my bone pretty hard there ^-^;
Ah, yes the musical definition of alto is much more humane that the one I meant.... People here are just to narrow minded for alternative things...
I never got to play the old pokemon games. I'm only playing Diamond now because my freind made me. He actually GAVE me his DS brick and bought me a copy of the game.
I wish people around me were that generous -___-
>o< They do it to be mean to me!! I HAVE NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER. I MUST FINISH PHOENIX WRIGHT.
Are you always out of luck when it comes to gaming?
As they say... -->
Yeah ;__; My memory card got corrupted right when I was about to FINALLY 100% ODIN SPHERE
* kicks and screams *
Ah, I've got both of my PSX mem-cards dying on me when I finished MGS and Tekken3... *Grrrrr*
Oh man, I'm so... I don't know. I didn't have internet or freinds as a child. So I played lots and lots of Tekken3... I have yet to meet anyone I can't demolish D:
I have yet to meet someone who I can pwn.... I always got pwned untill i discovered Eddie... :D capoeira r00lz
Coincidentally, Capoeira is what I'm off to train in half an hour or so.
>:3
Gasp :0 Thats so cool. I can breakdance. But I wanna capoeira! Like my lovely Kenyan Princess from Street Fighter III <3 <3
Ahahahaha ^-^
Well, it's actually quite hard, and especially with years of other martial arts training behind you, since those things make you do other things...^^
But flippy stuff is cool. -w-
I'm a contortionist... I like doin' flippy stuff :3
I do love cappu, but I'm myself more into Kendo and crossbowing (latter one requires good strength and great concentration)
I've actually never been able to take any formal martial arts or skill class... all I know I've been taught by eye/ear. Including japanese... I understand it better than I speak it, and I only know hiragana (and like... ten kanji...) but I figure I'll have a little bit of a head start if I ever do get to take a formal class >w<
Well, I try never to use the combat skill's I learned (from my dad, I guess) in an actual fight, because that's neutralizing your opponent swiftly and thoroughly.....
indeed, reall combat fighting skills are called one hitter quitters... hits that take them out as quickly and efficiantly as possible...
but thats off topic, and so are you. Off to topicless thread with you, shoo shoo!
I need beat pokemon red for the gba
-Dos, Meow
About old games, here one day I noticed that in Minami-ke: Okawari, Chiaki was playing the NES classic Kung-Fu.
Such an awesome game.
Wut!
On my NES i have an "Olympics" Game, which has Taekwondo...
I just remembered the really old-skool stuff I did on my PC-XT: Blackjack. :D
Don't mock, however, because it was the fastest system i had for gaming (windows needs ages to boot while DOS does this instantly)
And Trek on my 486 also rules
QUEST FOR GLORY. WHO KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT? ;-;
I like playing rogue and roguelikes such as nethack and Angband variants occasionally.
wow, thats really old skool....
Does nethack count as old or new?Otherwise, I play any old rpgs (The new ones are nearly nonexistant) that I haven't played and beaten.
I just got new batteries for my Game&Watch Donkey Kong thats from 1982. Now that's what I call oldskool handheld gaming.
Love the piezoelectric sounds.
Well, i am being sidetracked by Redcard for the gamecube. (first football game ever witch keeps me and my mate glued to the screen ;010)
But there's the occasional Arkanoid and Mario 3... :D
Super Mario Bros 3 is godly.
yup, but since i lack a NES i have to make do with Sumer Mario All-stars...
Oh woe me who has to play Mario 3 with updated graphics... :D
I hath an NES! MAW HAW WHAW! And mostly, I found it in the garbage room! O_O
I really should hunt down that scart cable so that I can get my NES connected to our bigger TV.
Oh lol, 8-bit Vidyagaem graphics on a 28" TV...
Scart? Don't you usually use a RF converter instead?
If you mean by RF, the antenna connection.
The antenna has a problem where you must manually find the "channel", that's displaying the connection from the NES. And that channel or Frequency should I call it, can be anything, and I've yet to find a way to "surf the frequencies" on this TV. Dunno, I might be technobabbling nonsense cus im no tv expert. But one thing is for sure, I cant get it to work with the antenna connection.
Mm, mm. Well, that's true. I've usually had that channel on 14 or 13, though - maybe it's a default on swedish TV's? Meh, dunno.
Well, the old consoles usually do use R/F adaptors but NES and SNES have a composite output as well...
I always had nintendo systems on channel 13, btw...
SUDDEN POLL TIEM!!!
Best game for all nintendo systems?
Zelda!!!
I'm not answering that, cus the other titles might get jealous...
Well, i've seen a video with a top ten of the worst album-arts for the NES, so a poll of the best Nintendo games isn't that bad...
Especially since not all games were published for NES/SNES/N64/GC/Wii...
Added after 2 hours 11 minutes:
BTW, an oldie i just had to throw in here: Cannon Fodder (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/76/Cannon+Fodder.html) For the P.C....
It's abandonware, so it's free...
Oh you ^-^
I'm tempted to say Golden Sun II Lost Age for the GBA, btw. GS1 was my hero and when the sequel came out I was overjoyed to the fukken max.
Well, i'm a bit stuck at abandonia now...
So much abandonware, so many memories...
So many lulz :D
Abandonware, huh...
One word: TOTAL ANNIHILATION.
That game is bloody EMPEROR of strategy games still, even after 11 years; The only thing that can measure up is its own successor SupCom.
Then Dune 2 is the god that created rts...
And indeed SupComm kicks ass.... :D
Try Warzone2100 if you want a truly epic tech tree... :D
Meh, doesn't beat the insane things you can do with Total Annihilation. Have you played it? It's total awesome.
well, not yet...
But wich one do you mean, btw? WZ2100 or SupComm?
Well. I haven't played WZ2100, but that's what I meant. Er.
SupCom vs TA is sort of hard, though. TA has good graphics - despite being 11 years old - extremely well-built tech trees, highly functional mechanics but most of all an enormous pool of fan-made extra units and maps; SupCom has NextGen graphics, an improved version of TA's tech tree, improved game mechanics as well as the best feature to ever be installed into a game, Strategic Zoom - but because of the more complex coding it is harder to make units for it. On the other hand, large portions of its source code has been opened to the userbase by the staff at GPG (!!!) - which allows for very complex fan-made add-ons and mods.
Damn, Chris Taylor is a god at RTS building.
Oh! Oh! Warzone2100, I remember playing that on the PS1!
Dune's awesome.
Anyone know Triplane Turmoil?
Oh, man you should try WZ2100, Nej...
It's the only game ever where you start with only 2 building units (trucks) and have to design and research EVERYTHING, and i do mean everything, from the turrets/bodys/propulsion for your tanks and VTOLS to the bad-ass Laser Sattelite Uplink Center...
And according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warzone_2100) WZ2100 is now opensourced and free... :D
AWESOME!!!
Wait what!!!
*rushes off*
I just have to say it again...
Warzone totally pwns... ;010
Srsly, Thanks for pointing out the WZ2100 project.
(now I know what I'm gonna do the next days)
Now that I played quickly the tutorial quickplay... noticed how the repair turret tanks move and repair other tanks?
Almost like somekind of mass-tankpronz the whole thing.
yeah, but give 'em a break, the games almost ten years old and it was extremely complex for it's day...
OMG OMG GEOMETRY WARS IS SO FREAKIN COOL
Hey, I have a surprise for you...
http://spring.clan-sy.com/
TA:Spring - opensource and full 3d graphics for our old friend!
And of course, lots of multiplayer fun.
Nyaa!! ! hjvklh!!
hmmmm, i'll have a looksie... :D
Oh, man... I now have a list of golden oldies....
Including space invaders!!!!
And Pac-man!!!!
I still play a multitude of old games. Terranigma is still my favorite game, which is for SNES. I also occasionally still play Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Gameboy(Though I've lent it out at the moment).
I don't play Megaman Legends much, but I should. It was fun when I did.
And a few others...
I only recently upgraded to a new PC, Had one made in '96 since coupla months ago, so you can imagine that it isn't very next-gen capable. I still love the old RTS's: Starcraft, AoE2, ALL the CnC Series.
*looks at his Box of CnC TFD, and his DVD of CNC3*
*nods*
Nothing among old-gen beats Total Annihilation. All I ever say.
Diablo II Lord of Destruction!!!
Just restarted playing that epic old game... ;010
you know what id like to be able to still play.. WH40k Chaos gate.. Ive still got my disc but I havent been able to get it to work even in compatability mode since 98. :/ I want to get a cheap 98 running computer from a thrift store sometime to play it again

I can't believe no one ever mention X-Com Ufo Defense. That's one is one of the best classic game. A bit biased, I know, but if any of you like Strategy and Management, you better try this game.
Actually, I played quite a lot of old games.
Let's see.
Detroit
Simfarm
Simcity2000
X-com Ufo defense
Jagged Alliance
Star Ocean 3 (I know, it's not that's old, but it already sleeping in my shelf for three years)
The old-school RPG launched in the time of snes.
secret of mana, breath of fire, final fantasy(ies), and super mario rpg just to mention a few of them.
Also like AoE2 Conquerors Expansion, DOOM, super smash bros melee, and the legend of zelda: Ocarina of time.
In a sudden nostalgia rush, I got myself a Classic GameBoy and started to collect games for it. I never owned the Classic one though, I had a GBPocket which I foolishly sold when I needed money for the GB Advance.
I already have pokemon blue that I got 10 years ago, and on my shopping list are already:
Pokemon Silver
Zelda:Link's Awakening
Kirby's DreamLand
FinalFantasy Adventure, aka, Mystic Quest, aka Sword of Mana.
FinalFantasy Legend 2
Megaman - Dr.Wily's revenge.
So anyone suggest any good games for it?
Or more like, "What is your favorite Classic GameBoy game?"
Oh, I had such a rush once, i now own a PSX, SNES, N64 and a GBC with various games... I even have a Nintendo Scope for the SNES...
Harvest Moon - Friends of Mineral Town
Good game indeed.....
Von Daab, metroid 2 is a must for original gameboy games
What about Mario and Zelda? also two icons on the Nintendo systems?
Harvest Moon is one of those games that if you've played one of them, you've played all of them.
Metroid 2... I dont know if I want to experience the survival horror I had on the NES and SNES, but now in peasoup color and laggy screen...
Though, I do know what the whole fuss about Metroid2 is about. Its a well made game for its time.
Also, I cant find anyone willing to sell metroid right now.
I've got one of those huge, black, brick-like things.
Dropped a hanger with swords on it yesterday, still fine.
One that comes to mind instantly is Diddy Kong Racing. Even 11+ years later, I still dig out my N64 to either do a speed run through Adventure mode or try to beat my best records in Time Trial. I still own my original copy of it, along with my original N64 I got back in 1997)
I got my N64 in '98. Only games I have left from that time is Mario64, Yoshi's story, F-ZeroX and Smash Bros...
It was a good console, though with crappy amount of games, yet high prices because of the cartridge format.(which aswell was incredibly limited in several ways)
I remember paying a "huge sum of moneys" of it. Heh, most consoles cost twice more nowadays. Yet N64 was called "expensive" those days...
Speaking of old games.. recently I got to thinking about how hard the 4th survivors game was in RE2, and I went back to play it. I could nto for the life of me beat that as a kid, i got close but never beat it. I beat it on the second try this time, and with plenty of health and ammo to spare.
I remember that the PSX had an edge over the N64 because of the Red/book audio that was possible with the use of CD/ROM, however both were seriously lacking by todays standards, if you look at metal gear solid, wich i´ll have to play again, Metal Gear consists of large flat surfaces, and Zelda OoT also looks like the graphics were pushed to their limits... I actually liked the graphics of Zelda ALTTP on the SNES better...
Meh at least i have the games and respective consoles, so i can play them, wich i´ll have to do sometime...
Biggest problem with the N64 was its Cartridge, as its size was limited to 128MegaBytes, IIRC. Compared to PSX's 700Mb. This was obvious when you looked at N64's sprites and texture quality, as they were mostly very blurry and overstretched. Also, all music had to be made in MIDI or similar format, as it was simply the best way to keep the sound files small.
Also, Cartridge made "multi-discs" impossible, something what PSX's Metal gear and FF series were known about. Like, wasnt FF9 around 4cd's?
This just continued the small "downhill of bad designs" which Virtual Boy started. GameCube having the same problem with the incredibly stupid 8cm disc, which had roughly the half of a regular DVD's capacity.
Both N64 and GC had better specs than the rival Sony console, but both failed as they were incredibly limited because of their poor game data format.
but include waggle, and everyone is willing to forget that their system isnt capable of what the others are
Sad, but so true...
different tastes, different consoles...
:P and the inclusion of casual gamers for PROFFIT!!
True, but i do like the old games better, because they wer still all about gameplay instead of eyecandy...
Spoken like a true wiitard. It IS possible to have eyecandy AND gameplay. And i dont concider waggle gameplay, nor do I concider it exersize.
I don´t like the Wii, i´d rather have a PS3 or an XBOX...
There's a reason why I'm replaying GameBoy classics and enjoying it.
Gameplay so strong that it doesnt need any flashy graphics.
Btw, anyone noticed how modern games tend to offer a wall of text right in the beginning, like, trying hard to build up a story with a huge amount of ridiculous dialogue. Takes ages to get into the whole playing part, and when you get to it, you're forced to go trhu a very annoying tutorial that describes the simplest things EVER.
YEAH! TRUE, LOL!
Modern console games = overrated. I got my share of CurrentGen gaming in two days during UppCon. It bores me now.
I saw someone mentioning DKR for the n64 and yes, that's gotten a few spins on an emulator too... sadly, I no longer have my N64 :'(
And of course, Mario Party, Paper Mario, SMB3 on teh NES, and few GBC/A games like Zelda :P
Mario 3 rools... i have that one on my SNES (Super Mario All Stars)
Also Zelda ALTTP Rools too....
add some bash em up games like street fighter
I'm a big fan of the old DOS games myself. Possibly my favourite being either Phantasmagoria or Imperium Galactica.
I'm also a retro gamer; I have an Atari 7800 and a Sinclair Spectrum, which I'm swapping for an Amiga A600. I used to have a Commodore 64, too. We also have a SNES which we've had from new (I can even remember guying it!) along with a PS1 and N64.
I like to play all the old Megaman games, and the Final Fantasy games too.
I never played too many dos games.. just doom/wolfenstine spacehulk and some others.. tho back then my computer could brearly run doom ._.
I had no problems with that, back then i had an overclocked 486 with soundblaster, 2MB VGA card, and stuff... :D
Ah, happy days!
oh, yeah... i still love the 486... And Dual PIII servers.... :D
My favourite CPU of all time, MOS 6502. 'Nuff said.
I was born too late for that one...
Also loved my (dad's) Acorn Archimedes...;010
So was I, but it don't stop me loving it!
Ahhh, E-type on the Archimedes... I still mourn the loss of that PC...
Added after 8 hours 27 minutes:
now playing Heretic, Shadow of the Serpent Riders... :D
I used to play the PC games.. do not know consoles.
so, my old game is PC game.
I played FALCOM games -Legend of heroes seires- just few days ago.
well, masterpiece is never collapsed.
Old games? Yep.... I still like to play the original Castlevania for the NES. Cause even up to now I still have yet to finish it.... X_x
=_= yeah, they are a bit unforgiving arnt they?
tho, my favorite castlevania was SOTN :P but i think thats alot of people favorites
Yeah SOTN was great.... it still some secrets I have yet to find though...
The old Castlevania's really punished me, with abnormally cheap Death that you have almost no chance to kill.... X_x
unless your asian? XD jk jk
Ive seen some speed runs on youtube where people go through those old games without taking a hit ._.
I am Asian and I finished a lot of games without taking a hit (Specially Kage, Karateka and Spartan X) but for some reason whenever I face Death in those Castlevania games he corners me with those random flying scythes... I have no idea why this always happens to me.... X_x
Im sorry, i tried not to laugh, but i failed TT_TT
Well ti's misfortune for me.... X_x
try harder, FIGHT! BANZAI!
Ehhh.... Okay.... T_T
Fun thing about old-skool games is: you have approximately untill the cartridge/console fails to finish a game, and that can be years... ^_
It's rare for a cartridge to break and /or unlike CDs ya know....
BTW, I finally finished Castlevania, now going to finish Super Hero Sakousen: Daidaru no Yabou.... I'm sure nobody is familiar with that game.
cartraiges have their own problems, like corroded connectors, dead save batteries, etc..
I've never had problems with any cartridge machine I've had. Except, don't turn them on without one in unless it has a built-in game or some kind of BIOS or whatever. I did that on my N64 once and it was never right again... :(
Heh. I remember how in the N64 days, people managed to "glitch" some games by bumping the cartrige. Wallhacks and stuff. Fun times.
Gah i have a game (think it's mario all stars), wich crashes if i don't cramm a folded piece of paper in it aswell...
Heck one of my nes cartridges I needed to stick a piece of wood for it to work.... I think it was Samurai Pizza Cats....
yeah, but that's half the fun... ^_
You could call that... cause whenever you do that some helpful glitch happens... INF HP anyone?
Oh, on my SNES that glitch caused a hang of the system...
That didn't happen to me... though the graphics did also glitch.... X_x
yeah, that too: graphics would get all trippy and the system would hang... That's why the SNES is a qurantined zone when i play that game ^_^
I get your drift, at one time when my SNES got hit the graphics made a mistake and the next floor of the platformer disappear.... it left me in despair....
Yep, yep... Good times, still lives...:D
Hah! Indeed, though my first time with Spartan X pissed me off though....
Don't know that one...
WHAT?! You don't know abnormally hard spartan X? Look it up dood it will annoy you....
Will do :D
SO GUISE
I'M IN NOSTALGIA-LAND
CORE PRIME LAWL

TA <3.
Oooowkaaaayyyy...
I first just saw the pic and thought: WZ2100 meets SupComm? then i guessed right at it being TA... cool
I am now playing RS3 Raven Shield, still fun and for some strange reason it can still stress my Videocard... (SLI doesn't work with that so i have to run it on single GPU)
Seriously, TA is surprisingly one of the best strategy games on the market...EVEN AFTER 12 YEARS PAST RELEASE, OI OI
IMO one of the few that really is better than TA is SupCom, which is essentiall TA2 under different name, really...
true, true... but you should try Warzone 2100 too...especially since it is now GPLed and is now updated to version 2.1.2...
http://wz2100.net/
Meh. It seems...a bit off.
I'll stick to the originals, plz. Also Spring when it gets properly fixed, that's gonna be a blast! Like SupCom, but with no fixed camera angle or position whatsoever! WATCH YOUR COMMANDER D-GUN IN FIRST PERSON!
Hey WZ was revolutionary in it's day with far more advanced AI than C&C and movable camera, immense tech tree and customizable units...
In its day, when was it released? TA may not have movable camera angle, but with the diversity it comes with - and most of all its extreme ability to adapt to heavy modification - and a pretty damn sweet (or fucken annoying, if it's against you) AI it's extremely dynamic. And ever-changing, since it's still being actively modded by lots of people still, with many tens of mods still actively developed.
just like WZ2100 i see...
Well, I'd more compare WZ2100 to Spring Project, actually, which is a 3D spinoff of TA...although, Spring is more like SupCom in matters of quality and such.
Well, at least they are all epic games...
speaking of wich, the name Epic Megagames pops into my head... ^_^
Aww Yeah! Jazz Jackrabbit!
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
*cough*
Sorry been playing Clock Tower.... Darn it, that game no matter what system is scary....
Quote from: "kaineru"WHAT?! You don't know abnormally hard spartan X? Look it up dood it will annoy you....
I just realized. Is this Spartan X you're talking about the japan version of Kung-Fu Master?
Altleast the NES version isnt that hard on the first 2 playthroughs...
Yeah, but nes games have a tendency to vary across regions...
God of war : Chain of Olympus
Resident Evil 4
Need for Speed Underground & Most Wanted
Metal Gear Solid 3
Max Payne 1-2
Call of Duty 1
Dead Space
Diablo 2
None of those are exactly old...
Could be better in the "favorite games" thread.
True, we're looking for stuff like Wolf3d and Dune2 here... ^_^
Maybe like Jagged Alliance and Ufo:X-com?
These two game age very old (around the mid 90's) and I still playing this game till now.
Anyone remember those old Close Combat games?
I used to play them a lot in my early teens, and now after all the military training, I got back into the series and noticed how realistic those games are.
Only game i remember wich was remotely realistic (as far as i've heard) was Delta force Black Hawk Down and the Team Sabre expansion...
Well, I meant that CloseCombat was realistic in the sense of strategy, unit morale and stuff.
On the graphical side it was pretty much tiny pixel people fighting each other.
that's what i mean too... strategy, gear, etc...eyecandy doesn't neccesarily make something realistic...
Tiny handheld is TINY
(http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/VDaab/lynksiS1.jpg)
I hope this image clears up why I designed Lynx-tan the way she is now.
Yeah, i know, my mate still has one... and some of the retro-game shops have them if you're lucky... heck i even saw GG and a couple of game and watch-es in a store like that... they even had Atari 2800s.... ^_^
Well, I've found webstores that sell BRAND NEW Lynx stuff, even if the console is already 20 years old. But why its brand new might have to do with the fact that people back in the days didnt really want to pay that much for consoles so the stuff have been lying in store for some time...
There's also some stores that still sell Atari 2600 stuff...
There are some games on the Lynx that I must get, like, STUN runner and Warbirds, for great justice and 3D engine!
Heh, gotta love the old games... wich reminds me, i have to scrounge up Lunar Lander sometime...
OOOHH, I have lunar lander somewhere on a floppy disk.
Now where that disk is... is an mystery.
Heh, i just cleared out a bunch of old diskettes... Found my original MS DOS6 disks and Windows 3.11 disks...my first official, legal OSes... ^_^
I was in Ã...re for 10 days total, travel days included.
My playtime counter on my Pokemon Red, which I restarted when I got on the train up, reads 53h 41m.
That's 23 mutherfucken percent.
I WIN.
Giana Sisters on mah DS!?
More likely than you think.
I just found out that they've made a remake of it last year, keeping the old music tracks in remixed amiga style and completely remade stages, which is awesome.
The style its made in is sort of alienating at first, but when you think about it and look closer at the whole thing, it feels like a very solid style.
And you know what is the most awesome with it?
NO STYLUS WAGGLAN.
Oy, that's not an "Old" game... that's friggin new... ^_^
Isnt this thread for discussion about old games? So why not remakes too?
Usually remakes suck, but this one is surprisingly well made. And looking at the credits, made by a pretty small team.
Relax... just messing with ya... sure classic remakes can be posted here... it is good that they get posted here, since that revives the old-skool games....
I recently started playing one of the early Macintosh ports Tetris and it's addictive! @_@
Hmm, how early, cuz i bought a Powerbook 5300 (and with it's power adapter, i can also fire up my Powerbook 190)...
BTW, yes, the 5300 has had a video/LAN card built in, so i can go online to get it (when i figure out hot to do that ^_^)

Wait, is it out?
Gotta check it out then.
Yeah, I got the game (DL'ed the ROM) some time ago. Dont know where and when it's released though...
Btw, does 10 years old konsoles count as old?
I took today some pictures with my crappy camera and I have to share atleast one NGPC picture.
Pardon the messy background and the amount of noise it has...
Yeah, that's old... Basically everything that's from the last nium is to be considered as old... ^_^
DS-ized Amiga gaems?
Imma dl that to mah R4 card ASAP, lol.
tetris on the gameboy :D
been meaning to play ff7 again since i got it back.
I still own a NES and I really like playing Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros ( 1,2 & 3 ) and Zelda ( 1 & 2 ).
I owned a game boy ( of those thick and grey ) and I liked Tetris and Mario Land ( really hilarious ).
hmm, need to go and play some golden oldies...
Been far too long...
how about old pc games?
I've been playing the hell outta Warlords Battlecry III, which isn't that old (c. 2004), but often looks that way. It's an awesome game if you like RTS games with RPG elements added.
has anyone ever played lunar silver star story? i have some of the music, and the guy who originally gave it to me said it was an epic game.
it sounds epic, but i can't afford it mahself.....
If you're looking on amazon...

Epic + trust me.
Worth multiple play throughs.
FALLOUT. The Original. EPIC.....well actually Interplay.
Played through about 15 times now. I'm still playing it since middle school about 7 years ago now. I still come back to this game.
At this point, Rockman.EXE 5 and Boktai 2 could be considered "old" games. I will soon be coming into possession of Rockman.EXE 5 DS Twin Leaders and Boktai 2 so that I can play them and see what they're like.
old games...
I still remember about my first pokemon games, pokemon yellow.
the only pokemon games that follow the anime's story(maybe?).Because in that game, your first pokemon is pikachu, while in the other series you choose one out of 3 pokemon.
Also,in pokemon yellow, you can get all of the 3 pokemon choice in the other gb/gbc series (bulbasaur, charmander, and squirtle)
Pokemon Yellow is one of the first videogames I've ever played and probably the first I was capable of playing! Yes, it is the only game that follows the anime, specifically only the first season, while the rest of the anime follows the rest of the games.
Golden Sun: Lost Age.
Every summer I set aside my life to play through the entire game. Even better since I recently found out about golden sun DS is real this time.
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil - Old touhou game, but sill a good one
Waiting impatiently for HeartGold and SoulSilver pokemon remakes. JOHTO FTW
Also...Golden Sun DS will be MINE.
Entirely.
>:3
I just killed the overseer in Fallout 1...... What to do what to do what to do.....
this game is truly a classic.........Phantasy Star: The End of the Millennium on an emulator called Gens 2.11.............and then I like to play a little LHX attack chopper on my ACTUAL Sega Genesis, yeah I kept one working, give me a cookie now!
hmmm are we talking old as in say karateka or california games on the apple IIe or more like the .hack series on the ps2, i do have somewhat of a soft spot for the xenosaga series too (don't hate!!)
Sim Park & Star Trek: Elite Force
"Trivia", a classic CLI text game for Unix! Circa sometime in the 1970s.
Also, Adventure. Another classic CLI game, supposedly based on D&D.
I also like Petz, a virtual pet game (or maybe more like "sim") circa early 1990s thru 2000s.
Oooh, I've played another D&D knock off for DOS: DND.
Sonic the hedgehog 3. Played that game dozens of times and I never get tired of it 83 (except for... the carnival night zone *shudder*)
Dungeon Keeper 2 and Populous 2 both games that deserve to get a sequel.
YEAH Dungeon Keeper II!!! cool, cool
hm...old games huh, i still got my NES, play contra alot...
I find that I still play Command and Conquer and Civilization, as they are both great "old" games. I've also gotten into the old DOS version of Secret of Monkey Island again too, which means I am set for the next while.
Never tired of old RTS, TBS or Point and Click adventures. :3
RIIIIIIIIDGE RACEEEEEEEER, has been my thing lately.
But RR Type4 is barely "old"...
Also did a 100% run on WarioLand2 not so long time ago.
Using this machine.
(http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/VDaab/th_gameboylight1s.jpg) (http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/VDaab/gameboylight1s.jpg)
Though, now that the days are getting brighter again and I wont need a backlit screen all the time, I can dig out my NGPC again.
Rocket knight adventures and the sonic trilogy+knuckles were very fond childhood memories. anything else that I've played I consider too new to be nostalgic
My first system was a game boy color and it was the shit. I got a SNES a while ago and I i love to play SMB: All-Stars
I got myself Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, and after unlocking Symphony of the Night, I found myself playing it more than the Chi no Rondo remake.
Now to unlock the original Chi no Rondo...
Sadly, this SotN version is a remaster, so it doesnt have the "WHAT IS A MAN?" awesomeness.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Also Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem 3D.
Videogames you (Heart) thread reminded me that there was this thread as well.
Zelda1 is one of the classics I liked to play, though, havent played in ages...
Therefore I decided to get it again.
On this console, which I received only moments ago:
(http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/VDaab/th_IMG_0884s.jpg) (http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/VDaab/IMG_0884s.jpg)
However, because British mail sucks, my express24 packet with FC games is still yet to arrive.
Also in before necropost.
I've never seen one of THOSE before.
come to think of it, my cousin ryan had a dreamcast. <3 i wonder how he's doing....
oh, and, MARIO PARTY 3:
THE BEST MARIO PARTY EVER.
Just yesterday Remilia and I played Megaman 2 on my NES. <3
Quote from: Red-Machine on January 22, 2011, 06:35:22 AM
I've never seen one of THOSE before.
It's a Sharp Famicom Twin. Japan only, 1986.
Famicom and Famicom Disk System in one package.
I was quite lucky to get that CRT TV from my boss, without even knowing if it can support 60hz/NTSC mode.
Initial reaction after plugging that console in and powering it on, and receiving no sound nor image was quite unpleasant, but after some AV jack and plug wiping/grinding and trying out SCART instead of Composite input, it turns out to work like new.
Too bad I dont have (yet) a FC Disk to test the Disk Drives condition. As they tend to wear out very quickly.
ebay. that's where i found the swan. :\ (and it was only 15 bucks! in multiple colours!)
Oh what wouldve we do without eBay...
'swans have a couple FF games if i remember correctly, and some other Square games, like, Front Mission 1.
Theyre pretty much SNES ports, which is quite astonishing for a handheld from around '99-01.
Only thing buggers me about them is the lack of screen light and also sound is on 8-bit level, so it sounds all "nes" blippety blop, even if game is obviously from a SNES.
Still, if I had lived in japan, I wouldve probably gotten a wonderswan color and had it until GBA SP came out, obviously as the original GBA didnt really offer anything compared to the 'swan. Other than just a massive library of games...
I still want a Wonderswan Color. Just dont know how comfortable its to play FF1 and 2 in japanese...
meh, you'll get by. :3
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Megaman 2
found FF7 ^^;
i'd like to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 again. that game rocks. ^^

Fedora-Tan'd approve of those both. x) I've only recently seen Jagged Alliance (originally from the early 1990s), but it's a very interesting game to watch someone who's good at it play. I need to emphasize the watching part, though, as trying to play it myself I find myself totally incapable of getting through a day, not to mention that I'm never good at games with shooting or strategy. ._.
edit: I forgot the reason to post in the first place: nice to hear you found the FF7 at the end. ^-^
yees -w-
i kinda wish i could play dragon quest since it's supposed to be a classic.
Whats preventing you from playing it?
Anyways, because british Royal Mail is retarded, my Zelda1 and Lagrange point FC games are still in their sorting office or something.
Funny thing is that another FC game I bought later, arrived already, and it came on slower regular airmail.
No logic in whole thing.
But yeah... Famicom Wars FTW.
whoo!!!
oh, and i don't have it. i know someone who does, but it's missing the first disk. :\
Disk... Wait what. You say classic DQ and then its not even a NES title?
it's a remastered version for the PS1. :3
Just recently I played again The Secret of Monkey Island and the Day of the Tentacle. Both are LucasArts point-and-click classics. <3 ^-^
monkey island!!!
oh, btw, i was going to find and download mind maze.....it was a part of encarta and i used to play it as a little kid. it was so epic, and i felt smart even though i always picked the odds and ends catagory. xD

Protip: She's marrying Fedora in august. No luck for you, I'm afraid.
hence the "no homo" part.
CASTLEVANIA! DOOM! HALF-LIFE! SONIC ADVENTURE!
My Favorite old games
FF7~~~~ <3
FF7, FF8, FF9 :P I collect FFs but haven't finished any besides X and XIII.
Also Sonic 1 and 3 on the Sega Mega Drive.
i've gotten to the final part of FF7, but i was dumb enough to not train enough beforehand so i'm stuck there at lv. 66, unprepared to beat the final boss (i can get through the first 2 battles, but i'm wiped out as soon as i get to the third).
i also have FF5, but i haven't played it (it came with the PS1 release of Chrono Trigger).
FF8 suuuuucked. >__>
oo, why? I'm not even halfway through, but I think FF8 is quite a good game
eh, it's all about personal preference. i like the older-style graphics, so i played FF8 for 5 minutes and i was like, "omg i hate this. >__<;;"
of course it's about personal preference ^^
I like almost all FFs, but IMO the developers did a great job with the gfx on FF8 and 9 considering the hardware limitations of the PS1.
FF7 still is, and always will be, king in my book.
and DAMN this is taking a long time. but I WANT THAT BEACH HOUSE!! >__<
Playstation, the consoles I never played because the controllers bug me.
stewartsage, I'm the same, except that I'm unable to handle any controller more complex than NES one. v.v I'm quite hopeless.
I still play at times The Settlers or like it was called in the US: Serf City - Life is Feudal, from 1993. ^^ Originally I played it on Amiga 500 (where the biggest mapsize for a scenario was "3") and nowadays the PC version on DOSbox (whopping "8" for mapsize!).
PS is basically the only controller i know how to use. i fail with all others, except the N64 controller, which usually confuses people even more. :\
I can use N64, Gamecube, and with a year of training XBOX 360 controllers. My favorite system by far remains the computer.
There was a NES and a couple different types of Atari's for sale locally. WAY to expensive. Shop owners need to stop learning Google-fu and jackin' up system/cartridge prices.
or, they should just place those on ebay, since that's likely where they got the prices from. :\
i wish i could have gotten the chance to play FF today. i'm SOOO close to getting the beach house (i don't understand why it's taking this long, it only took 8 hours straight last time!).
N64 is one of the most confusing-looking controllers, EVER. i still have no idea where they came up with the design, and to anyone who's never used it before it probably looks like a cross between a game controller and some sort of odd sex toy. however, as the N64 was a beloved childhood companion, it's like second nature for me. ^^
Xbox is completely foriegn territory for me, as is Gamecube. it's easier for me to navigate photoshop. >__<
I can play any controller (NES, SNES, N64, GC, Xbox [though I admit I play Halo in "southpaw"], Sega, DS stylus.... even trackballs... EVEN the wii, man, I'm a gamer), except PS controllers, the control sticks are just in a wtf design.
I prefer any controller to a mouse, though. I hate games that use the mouse for something important. Keyboard isn't that bad, however.
I just wanted to post that I prefer mouse to everything else. xD I mostly play slow-paced games which don't really require me to press many buttons at once, so it's perfect. ^^
i can see using the mouse for a computer game, but only when it calls for it. for example, Chip's Challenge, a game i have from the early 90's, uses the directional buttons on the keyboard. it's a standard 16-bit adventure game, with puzzles, traps, monsters and the like, so it makes sense to use the keyboard for that.
however, another game i have from the (mid) 90's, Theme Hospital, is about managing a hospital, and thus it wouldn't make sense to use the keyboard for any of that.
as for the PS controller, alot of PS1 games don't even use the control sticks, and i've only found a few PS2 games where the d-pad isn't an option.

I mash buttons like crazy.
I should record a match of me in STO pvp with "show keys pressed" on.
KEYBOARD
KEYBOARD FOR EVERYTHING
Mouse for FPS and RTS purposes.
i still vote that it depends on the game. >.<;
SC2 = so much keyboard and mouse action that it could kill.
SC, as in SupCom?
Then very yes. However, SC:FA is still master race. =w=

STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM

oh wait, that's starfox.
i have an urge to play super smash brothers now....
*Dusts off old thread*
One older game I've been playing lately is Sonic CD; since I finally bought another copy of it...although I have to play it on an emulator, because my Genesis looks like crap on my HDTV since I only have an RF switch for it. It's one that's been hanging on my backlog for years; the closest I ever came to beating it was the 2nd-to-last zone, because I just couldn't beat that boss.
do games for the PS2 count as old? if so, i have a renewed urge to play disgaea, so i'm planning on doing that later. :3
Last generation =/= old in general, I'm afraid. Unless generations are really, really long...
well, disgaea came out in 03', as did most of the games i play. either that, or they came out before. :\
well, since it's not 10+ years yet, i'll start a new thread about it. :\
Shufflepuck Café <3 It's from 1989 originally for Apple Macintosh, but I first saw it on Amiga 500, and the last few years've played it in DOSBox. ^-^
Hey Pitkin-dono, you want most of an Amiga 500 (lacking most cables)? I need to get rid of this one.....
Not sure if I mentioned it before but 50 Mission Crush may just be my favorite game of all time. Especially on the emulator induced hard mode.
That'd be great, stew! My parents used to have two complete and functional Amiga 500's but they were given away when I was around 15 years old, and I wasn't really asked for an opinion. ._. However, getting it shipped over the Atlantic would feel excessive especially since I'll be leaving even my dear C64's at my parents' place when moving to France... no space to put them in, not in usable condition... If I had some extra room saved up for retro computers I'd be taking that offer screaming, but now it'd just feel like adopting a bunny and then neglecting it. v.v
maybe that's something you could consider after the move?
Awww...... she needs somewhere to go so I can keep my Apple ][ and Kaypro. s'alright though, I figured what with the move and all new trans-oceanic Commodore products would be a stretch.
i'd be happy to take it. the oldest computer i have is from 1995.
bells might be better off with it, though, since she probably knows how to use it. :\
One old game I still like to play from time to time is Chip's Challenge. It's a mainstay on my PCs (Or it's fanmade clone, Tile World; which has updated graphics and 64-bit Windows compatibility), and a game I still play occasionally even after beating it several times. This was the best part of that so-called refurbished PC my mom bought ages ago to replace the Yeti; this game just doesn't seem to get old...
*tacklehug*
I DIDN'T THINK ANYONE KNEW ABOUT CHIP'S CHALLENGE BUT ME!! <333
i have it, and i bookmarked a page with guides on how to advance since i'm bad at it. >__<;
I've played it since 2003; discovering it on a "refurbished" PC my mom bought to replace the Yeti. Of all the games that where left on there, Chip's Challenge was the best one; it reminding me of a Dexter's Laboratory game I used to play on Cartoon Network's website ages ago.
Most people I know had never heard of it, either; same thing with most any PC games from that era I've played aside from Doom
i first played Chip's Challenge when i was about 5. My uncle had just gotten a new computer (gateway desktop, roughly 1996-7), and since i spent so much time at his house (my aunt suzie and my cousin nina used to babysit me, not to mention my 3 cousins there were the closest in distance and age to me and my sis), i got to see it. with the setup, he had bought a cd with 50 games on it. some of my favourites were Jewel Thief (which didn't stay around for long, for some reason), Pipe Dream, Chip's Challenge, and Jezzball.
i've managed to track down and install Jewel Thief and Chip's Challenge; anyone who wants them is welcome to them. :3 (jewel thief was originally made in 1991, so it has that deliciously 16-bit feel. :3)
Jewel Thief and Pipe Dream where also on that PC I had. Buried somewhere, I have Jezzball as part of the Best of Windows Entertainment Pack; which I downloaded several years ago just for Chip's Challenge (Although, I don't think that collection had Jewel Thief; which was the only letdown of that download).
I'll try to see if I still have it buried in Frankenstein...
ooooo, i would greatly appriciate that. *w*
I managed to find it, so I'll put it all together in a zip file with Reversi and send it to you tomorrow. It was a little troublesome getting Reversi, since I had to actually do a full installation of Windows 3.0 alongside the existing installation of 98SE, but hey; it's one game I've been wanting on 2k-tan for a while.
As an interesting but random thing I remember noticing with 2k's predecessor, TARDIS, just before it's processor fan died, was that Chip's Challenge somehow put more stress on it's processor than the much more advanced Half-Life 2.
.___.
maybe it was the backwards compatibility, since chip's was made for DOS and you were likely running NTFS?
oh, and i assume you sent that to my email. :3
I just sent the e-mail with the files.
Also, there was no telling with that PC; there toward the end, it had all kinds of weird bugs going on because it was getting a bit too warm.
the ones that act the weirdest are always the most fun. :3
ty for the files, guess we're even for the music, lol. xD
It's less than 10 years old, but Arcanum <3 <3 <3 Installed it again today and it runs through Wine nicely! ^-^
what's it about? :3
hmm, i should start playing theme hospital again :3
Arcanum takes place in a world where industrial revolution is threatening - or considered to be threatening - the old balance in society where magic users have lived strong. Short-living humans have finally a method to achieve quick results using technology during their lifetime compared to decades or centuries of magickal studies by elves. Player can either dive deep into technology or magic or balance in between, and at the same time use her skills and abilities to society's good or not.
Practically fantasy races and RPG and magic meet 19th-century technology. Steampunk~ ^.^
@Pit: That game sounds cool
Anyway, one older game I still play would be Ancient Empires, for the PC. It's an edutainment game, but it has the one thing that so few games in the genre can get right; the fun factor. The game has you exploring various caverns around the eastern world; solving puzzles, avoiding the giant spiders and other creatures that have made themselves at home, and trying to find all the pieces of an ancient artifact to reassemble it. In a way, it's kind of like what Zelda II would be like if it had more of an emphasis on puzzle solving like the later Zelda games to.
Of all the educational games I played as a kid, I not only still play it from time to time, but still have my original copy of it.
@pitkin: sounds cool. link or something?
@pentium: reminds me of Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego. <3 that, combined with Oregon Trail 3, were some of me and my sister's favourite educational computer games (there was one more but i can't remember the name). i also loved math blaster workshop. >:3 (bowling, fireworks, AND fraction jukebox!!)
a couple old computer games me and my sister loved included Theme Hosptal, Roller Coaster Tycoon (which i'm looking to replace since my sister gave away my disk.... >:[ she always had a bad habit of giving away my stuff when we were younger), mind maze, treasure cove, the sims, sim safari, sim copter (i liked this one more :3), sim city, streets of sim city (it was mainly me that played that one), and occasionally sim tower.
we also had a game (that she got for her birthday) called Catz 3d. it was made for windows 95/98, and even though it was old-style 3D i still teared up whenever out cat on there died. ;^;
i also discovered my love of classical and ragtime music through that game. :3
another game worth mention that my sister kicked ass at was tetris. i always failed miserably, but she RULED that game. >:3
SimCity, Theme Hospital and Rollercoaster Tycoon~ <3
Link to purchasing Arcanum (includes screenshots <3): http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura - $4.19 - if you'd prefer to find it even cheaper, I cannot really help >.>
Arcanum's biggest drawback was always the technical difficulties: the game used to crash, corrupt savegames and have very big performance issues back in the day. The gog's release of the game is patched and has at least improved performance, but I haven't tried it out long enough to see if the savegames are still at risk. ><
@Choco: You have Treasure Cove? I faintly remember playing that once ages ago, but we lost our copy of it (I do have it's counterpart, Treasure Mountain, both MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 versions; the former being my favorite of the two since I grew up on it)
@pitkin: aw, i thought i could get it for free. ;^;
and it's nice to know that someone else played theme hospital. i'm used to stuff i like being obscure. :3
@pentium: i'm not sure where we got it. think someone gave it to my sister. and i wanted to play the counterpart, but never got the chance. if i ever learn how to copy the disk, maybe we can trade. :3
@Choco: If you have an external floppy drive, it's not too hard; you just dump all the information from the disk into a zip file (Although, if it's more than one disk, it's best to install it and then make a zip file of the folder you installed it in; which is what I did to make a backup of the MS-DOS version of Treasure Mountain a few years back). Speaking of external floppy drives, I should really get one of those for 2k-tan the Desktop; in case I stumble onto any older games I want to backup, without having to setup the Yeti.
Anyway, another old game I still play is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It doesn't matter if it's the original 1994 Sega Genesis releases (With the soundtrack as it was meant to be heard, as well as the game being split onto two cartridges), the 1997 PC release (With the MIDI music that ranges from decent to mediocre),, or any other port they've done over the years; I love it all the same. In fact, after years of being a diehard Nintendo fanboy, this was the game that showed me that it was possible for a game to kick ass on a system that wasn't made by Nintendo.
i only have one working floppy disk. there's a cereal bowl sitting on it right now. :\
i've always wanted a copy of animal crossing and hamtaro: ham-hams unite!, only because i have the bookmarks for them. :3 but in terms of animal crossing, i'd need a gamecube first. :\

I never thought about it back in time, but if I remember correctly, now I feel the game was quite... morbid in humour: Elvis syndrome is solved by having a psychologist telling the patient he looks stupid, bloated head is stung by a needle, and living patients are sent to the room that's called "auto autopsy" or something like that. ._.; It's been absolutely ages since I saw that game last, I think I was 13 years old or so... o.o
@Choco: I have several disks still working; including two sets of Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installation disks, the original 5.25-inch disks for Ancient Empires and Treasure Mountain (The 3.5-inch disks for both died ages ago), and many more.
Anyway, another older game I still play from time to time is Lego Racers. I remember spending long Sunday afternoons at my grandma's house playing this game; building elaborate cars, trying to get further into the Grand Prix mode, and occasionally challenging my sister to a few races. Sadly, when I finally got to play the sequel years later, it failed to meet my expectations; they made so many changes to the core gameplay that it just didn't feel right at all anymore (Also, I was letdown by the inability to import my characters and cars from the first game; forcing me to start from scratch).
@pentium: i remember having a pack of lego games, but only one really appealed to me. i can't remember the name now, though. :\
@pitkin: yeah, it was a pretty morbid game. fun, though. :3 but i never made it past the teaching hospital level. :\
you ever put a receptionist in the bathroom? then you can put all your doctors and nurses in there too, and herd them all in one place, lol. xD
@Choco: I have 4 Lego games, although the first Racers is still my favorite of the bunch; with Island being in 2nd (Although it doesn't draw me back to it quite like Racers does)
Another old game I still occasionally play is Treasure Mountain. It may not draw me back quite like Ancient Empires does, although I still have fun playing it from time to time. I have both the original MS-DOS and the updated Windows 3.1 versions (The latter having enhanced graphics and a different soundtrack), although when I want to play it, I tend to lean more toward the DOS version; since it's easier to setup, is more nostalgic for me since it's the version I played as a kid, and has what I feel is the better soundtrack.
lol. you're making me miss treasure cove. :3
is it weird that jezzball (from like, 1995) is making my computer's processor overwork? :\

That's when I ran into with Chip's Challenge, back on TARDIS. Perhaps it's extra overhead brought on by XP and newer trying to understand the ancient coding designed with 3.1 in mind?
yeah, that's probably it. nanami playing with bombay or chicago's toys might result in a few bugs. :\
Yeah; you'll sometimes run into stuff like that when you're messing with older software on newer OSes
Anyway, as for a series of older games I still play, I still find myself occasionally playing the original 6 Mega Man games on the NES. I enjoy all of them equally, but if I had to pick a favorite, I'd probably go with the 5th one (It fixed the problems with 4 and had very nice graphics), followed very closely by the 2nd one (Who didn't love Mega Man 2?)
when i try to mention an old game i like to play, all that comes to mind is Homestuck, which is only part game. :\
Homestruck? I don't think I know that one...care to elaborate?
HomeSTUCK. it's part of the MSPaint Adventures group of hybrid comic/flash games. it's pretty damn cool. but i can't elaborate on it accurately; you'd have to play it yourself and see. :3

Mega Man 2 is my second favourite game on NES, and Fedora-Tan and I have finished all NES Mega Man games together in the past two years. <3 Quick Man's level is my personal favourite of all Mega Man games' levels. ^.^
My favorite of the stages would have to be Star Man's stage, from Mega Man 5; I loved the sections of the stage where you're running on the ceiling
you guys are making me wish i'd played megaman. is there a version for the N64?
There is Mega Man 64; a port of the earlier PlayStation game, Mega Man Legends. I've never played the N64 version, but I've played the PSX release and loved it to death; although, it's less like traditional Mega Man and more along the lines of a Zelda-like action/adventure game.
Megaman ftw. <33333
I love megaman legends. I played both of the games so far x3
and i will get a 3DS just so I can play #3 >:U
@pentium: hmm, as the owner of both an N64 and a playstation (x, 1, 2), it shouldn't be hard to get a copy. how much do you think that'd run me? (if it's like, 10 bucks i'll buy it right away, but i'm saving up for a scanner so if it's moar i'll wait :\)
The N64 version can usually be bought for less than $10 if you shop around; although, if you want it new, Amazon still has new copies of it for $20
Also, there's a compilation of the first 8 original Mega Man games available for the PS2 that usually doesn't run too expensive from what I've seen, if you decide you want to play the originals.
ooooo. :3
if you find a link on amazon for the second one, please post. :3
Here it is (http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Man-Anniversary-Collection-Playstation-2/dp/B00019HNNC/ref=dp_cp_ob_vg_title_2). I used to have the Xbox version, but since I don't have an Xbox of any kind anymore, I sold it off
ty. it'll go on my list of things to get after the first few major expenditures. :3
This doesn't really fit the "games I still play" as I just discovered this game on Monday: Fallout from 1997. Since Arcanum was referred to as the "most Fallout-like game since... well, Fallout itself" I thought I'd definitely like it. Post-apocalyptic steampunkish era taking place in year 1155 or so some 80 years after a nuclear war, it's extremely interesting. o.o
sounds like it. *w*
i've recently gotten semi-addicted to taipei. >.<;;
well.... i play um....a lot of sim date games/ hentai games from 88-01. I love the vintage feel of them
FAN FACT: my favorite Sim date game came out on 02/20/91; same day i was born.
that's epic. -w-
i have some dating sims, but the only one i've played is Thousand Arms (the only one i have that's not for the computer).
it's AWEEEESOME. >:3
i like:
Kana: little sister
Fear the drill man
True love
Come see me tonight 1 & 2
princess maker 1-3
VH Club
Snow Sakura
Maid Story
3 maid tales
Bunch of Dreamcast sim dates
and other japanese h games
i've read a description of kana, looks good but a little dramatic.
i'd like to get Family Project ~ Kazoku Keikaku. ^^
The closest things to dating sims I've played are:
- Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (Wasn't that great, really; it felt like a launch title for the Sega Saturn)
- Persona 3 (The portion during the day can count, and is pieced together well with the monster fighting at night. Remember; be nice to your friends, and you'll be like Chuck Norris when you go fight monsters at night...which gives me an urge to report that "The More You Know" logo)
you should have put "the more you know" logo. that would have been awesome. xD
i reccomend Thousand Arms to anyone who can get their hands on it. it's usually confused with Wild Arms (no relation as far as i know), but it's a standalone rpg/dating sim. the fun thing is, in order to advance in the RPG, you need to play the dating sim :3
harvest moon series ftw....
although lately it has been rubbish.
oo, harvest moon. one of the easiest games in the world. ^^
I remember playing one of the Harvest Moon games ages ago, after years of talking about how stupid I though it was...and, for about a month or two, I was hooked on it.
fomt was a hard game. what you talking about.
HMDS was a bitch to keep stable.
i have the harvest moon special edition for the ps2. it's fun, and cute, and easy (especially since we fall into a routine, and what we do during the day is based off the morning horoscope).
plus, the way i got my wife in one of the games was just epic. -w-
the harvest moon GBC was shit.
even the Snes version was better.
personally, i love the 64 version the best.
i should track down a copy of that. every cool 64 game i get is a victory. :3
(of course, i should probably get 2 more controllers first, to take full advantage of the multiplayer....)
I had a chance to get the N64 version for next to nothing, but it came down to either it or Paper Mario, so I went with what I knew I liked and had been wanting the longest
i need to buy a n64
yes. yes you do. :3
I've had my N64 since November '97
[/hardcore]
been playin' N64 since i was 7 8)
making that.....99'.
bought it off my cousin when i was about 12, making that......about 04'.
[/mychildhood]
I still remember the 4 games I got with the system when my mom bought it for me:
- Diddy Kong Racing (The only one of these games I still have my original copy of)
- Mario Kart 64 (I had to replace my original copy because a dumbass friend spilled a drink on it when I let him borrow it, and he didn't even clean it up or tell me; leaving me to find a game with a badly water-damaged label and corroded connectors)
- F1 Pole Position 64 (I sold it off when Gamestop opened in my hometown. I should have chose Super Mario 64 instead of this...)
- MRC: Multi-Racing Championship (I sold it off when Gamestop opened because it got dull, due to having so few tracks)
Since I already talked about DKR a few years back in this topic, I may as well talk about Mario Kart.
Mario Kart 64 was the very first game I played on the N64, and the game that made me want that system badly. Coming off from an Atari 2600, the graphics and sound where a quantum leap forward; by comparison, it really felt like I was playing a cartoon. Many afternoons in the late '90s and early '00s where spent playing this game; my sister and I usually having grudge matches spanning across almost every track (Rainbow Road being one we went to a lot), with my dad occasionally joining in on the weekends.
i played family project;
it was the most detailed sim date game i ever played. i just hate the fact, like in real life, one decision ends up screwing someone else over.
example: there is a loli in the game where if you dont choose her, she ends up becoming a sex slave, or killing herself.
i love the the game though.

Jesus, that is pretty harsh!
I've been playing a little bit of Pokemon blue which is nostalgic...
oh jeez, that's terrible!! ;^;
.....i still want it ;^;
@pentium: mariokart was one of the first games i played on N64 too. ^^ i actually wrote my first (and best, it was all downhill from there) poem about kalimari desert, which also held my time trial record (12 minutes). ^^
i rented diddy kong racing from the video store, and loved it. ^^ i need to get it at some point. :\
i should mention, though, that likely my favourite video game for the N64 would probably be Mario Party 3, all because of one event:
i was playing against 3 computer players, and it was the last turn. i was in dead last, no coins, no stars, only thing i had was a stopwatch(resets current turn to 5, no matter what turn it is) given to me by toad earlier in the game. as i stood there, disgruntled, i used the watch, saying, "let's do this over....and do it right."
i ended up dusting them all. 8)
I remember having an experience like that in Mario Party 2. I was in last place when the last 5 turns came around, but everything started looking up when I was given 20 coins as a bonus for being in last place, which allowed me to buy a star and turn the entire game around and pull a close victory.
it's always awesome when you're the underdog, and yet you still win, isn't it? (no matter the game. -w-)
Yeah. Feels good, man...also, on a unrelated note, if you ever get Diddy Kong Racing and find yourself stuck, just ask me for advice; I'm practically a walking encyclopedia on that game.
Anyway, another old game both my sister and I like is Bust-A-Move '99.
My sister and I where already familiar with the series because of Bust-A-Move 2, so when we saw there was a new one, we rented it quickly and played the crap out of it; engaging in several epic multiplayer matches over the years, such as the legendary 72-Hour War (A series of matches that began on a Friday one summer and, with time for breaks included, stretched out into Sunday morning before we decided to call it a draw because of how closely matched we where). Once the local Gamestop opened back in '04 and we found a copy of this game there, we where sold; ready to engage in more epic multiplayer matches...although none would ever come close to the 72-Hour War in length.
BUST A MOVE!!!!!!!! <33333333333
i LOVED that game when i was young. i rented it all the time from the local video store. when they started going under, i tried to find it, but it was gone. ;^;
just when i was about to buy one online, i went to a vintage game store and found a copy from my old video store!! i bought it on the spot (for about 10 bucks more than online), and, while it turned out to be from a different location that my local one, i'm really glad i have it. ^^
i also have a version of bust-a-move for the ps2. ^^
The only versions of Bust-A-Move my sister and I own are '99; she had the N64 version, while I have the PlayStation version. I almost bought Bust-A-Move 4 a few weeks ago, but passed it up for the PSP port of the first Disgaea.
eh, there'll always be another time. ^^
the bust-a-move i got for the PS2 was pure chance; when my sister worked at gamestop, i helped during her shift one day, and in lieu of pay, the manager let me take one of the discount PS2 games home. ^^
started to replay harvest moon Friends of mineral town,
I am going to play the game normally, as in get money first, girls later.
Tried out Jagged Alliance 2 that Fedora-Tan had purchased: it doesn't feel nearly as nice as the first one, and I don't like the graphics. ._. Fedora-Tan's verdict was a bit harsher still, but it'd be inappropriate to publish. xD
