Title: Gussy's Art Thread
Post by: Gussy Keniji on July 30, 2007, 10:01:05 am
Yeah, I tend to jump on ideas that aren't personified yet (namely the Virus-tans) but the curse that comes with such things is that theres usually not alot of info on them so I can probably see why no one's personified Viruses (Wiki them, I betcha 5 bucks, half of them will be red)

Abraxas-tan-A cryptic, and puzzle loving Virus-tan. her appearance is based off her common name, which is coincidentally identical to that of the mythological monster 'Abraxas' whom is commonly depicted as half rooster and half man (in her case, she retains the bird like wings and tail feathers). The '5' on her ascot, is a referance to her Alias Name:Abaxas5. Unlike her sister Virus-tans, she is the more leniant and kind viruses (this due to a bug which only allows her to infect the 1st EXE file in any directory) and as stated above she's cryptic and has a habit of speaking in riddles, which is possibly based on the text strings which can be found in 'Abraxas' viral code:
"*.exe c:\dos\dosshell.com .. MS-DOS (c)1992"

"->>ABRAXAS-5<<--"

"...For he is not of this day"

"...Nor he of this mind"
She is the 3rd child out of 20 who were born from PS-MPC-tan (whom I may draw later) Despite her kind nature however, she was still Exiled/Isolated in 1993 (being she's still a virus no matter what bug induced personality she bears) and now resides where her fellow (Isolated) Virus-tans live...

-More will come when I find the time/motivation to draw more, so enjoy this one for now

*Take note, I'm trying to better myself in the means of art (trying to break out of my chibi-ish style), so anyone who's willin to lay some advice/critique on meh, then bring it on *tears off shirt revealing huge muscles* I can take it RAWR!

I like it! I think this marks the first Viru-tan design to come out of OSC! It shows new blood is great!

Yinzer-san is forgetting things (http://ostan-collections.net/post-19913.html#19913)...
Infinity-sama drew MyDoom-tan, Spida-tan and Rabbit.exe-tan before 'viru-tan', and, arguably, caused it.
Still, it's great that you are drawing new -tans, Gussy-san! Keep up the good work!

Next in line Acme-tan
(http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s29/PichuRocket12/Acme-tan.png)

Acme-tan-A mischevious and clever Viru-tan. Her appearance is based off of differant forms of comedy. The hammer, for example, comes from the a common (if not cliched) use in anime humor (a girl pulling out a hammer, usually over exaggerated in size, and whacking a person with them *coughAmyRosecough*) and her wolf-like ears and tail is a referance to Wile. E. Coyote a prolific (if not, obsessive) user of 'Acme' products. The number on her hammer, 247, comes from the number at the end of her technical name: Clonewar.247 and the number of bytes the virus uses to create a hidden read only COM file (it also stands for it's weight, 247 TONS...which is a lie, it's really only 12 kilograms). Acme tan is extremely mischevious and loves the thrill of setting traps and watching others fall into them, she sees herself as a great Viru-tan because of this (another referance, for 'Acme' is greek for the great of something), but in reality her traps are more prone to fail than they are to succeed, for the traps themselves are very cartoonish and ultimately obvious to the naked eye (i.e. an Anvil tied to the end of a rope, which is suspended from a tree)Acme-tan is also able to acces 'Hammerspace' allowing her to pull out random objects seemingly out of nowhere (another type of humor). Being a decsendent of Clonewars-tan (and possibly Zeno-tan), She is a replicant and can make clones of herself which will then go about her bidding, the fact she can make 5, or even 10, exact copies of herself made her traps alot more dangerous (though still prone to fail catastropically). She was eventually Isolated in 1992 after causing alot of mischeif and disorder among the OS-tans...though she occasionally gets loose by leaving a clone to fool many into believing she still in exile...Though now since there are newer more secure OS-tans, the chances that her tricks will succeed are nearly close to...well 0%, she has a common enemy in 2k-tan in particular, for Acme-tan has tried dozens of times to get her to fall into a trap, but 2k-tan usually avoids them (rather easily) and has gone so far as to pointing out why they won't work...

Notes:I dunno if her breasts are too big, so you guys decide (I have a terrible habit of over exaggerating breast size)

Well, aren't you a bubbling fountain of creativity? ^.^
Great job on getting two fabulous new OS-tans out in two days! That's some quick drawing.
Nice work, I especially like how much backstory you have given them. It shows you put a lot of thought into them. Keep being awesome!

Indeed! Another great new design and backstory. BTW, I wouldn't worry about breast size. As long as they're not Eiken-sized, you're usually fine. After all, there's more to anime than boobs.

@Tsubashi: Aw, thanks dood, heh I've been known to draw pretty quick.

@NewYinzer: Ah, okay I'll keep that in mind and Thanks dood (believe me I've seen Eiken...their boobs are scary O_o; which is saying alot for I'mma guy...)

Next in line Acid-tan or Ah-tan, though I would expect Ah-tan for I've been itching to draw her for a while now

Heh, thanx dood :3 I try my best to make you guys happy when it comes to Viru-tans

And while I'm at it, here's Ah-tan...wow I do draw fast...

Ah-tan- An impulsive, twitchy and somewhat ill-fated Viru-tan. Ah-tan's impulsive and twitchy personailty stems from the Ah virus' tendency to be buggy and cause system hangs on the computer it infected, while Her bad luck comes from the fact that the Ah virus is so buggy and unstable that every time it tries to infect a file it causes a system hang in the process, making it very noticeble in the end. Ah-tan can be quite profane and dirty when she's angry, usually shouting vile profanities at the one who angered her (this also comes from the Ah virus for the text string is known to have strong profanity with in it). Ah-tan has 0 fashion sense and often throws on anything just so she can say she's wearing clothes, she also has a tendency to wear men sized shirts, this is a referance to a hacker who was a potential cross dresser, said hacker used the Ah virus in a 'mole' movement of viruses). Ah-tan hates secrets and will go out of her way to uncover anything she thinks some one is keeping from her whether it be money or even a simple surprise party (another refrence to the hacker for he left a note saying: The Secrecy is killing me). Ah-tan was easily isolated in 1991, and later met up with Acme-tan when she was Isolated, thusly Ah-tan and Acme-tan became partners (and eventually close friends) in their quest to once again cause mayhem in the OS-tan world, but paired with Acme-tan's flaw-riddled traps and her own bad luck it makes it near impossible to make any real progress on their goal. Ah-tan has a gluttonous addiction of sweets and basically all things sugary (think XP-tan and her rice) thusly she's almost never seen without some form of candy with her. Ah-tan also tends to become jealous of OS-tans who are 'well endowed'.

Notes: those green things beside Ah-tan are kanji, which translate to 'Ku Ku Ku'...I think...

Yeah, I figured Ah-tan needed that sorta thing done with her glasses

and yes my good sir it is: Acid-tan

Acid-tan- A sultry and corruptive Virus-tan, often using her figure to get what she wants and needs from others. Acid-tan is a bit hard to explain when it comes to references, though as her pro-dominant colors suggest she's affiliated with poison, she also has 2 tattoos each of them are related to the Viruses name and author, (only 1 can be seen in this pic though) the 1st is the most noticeable, the 670 is a the last 3 letters of the Acid Virus' Aliases, strangely each alias (a total of 5) still bears the same 3 numbers at or near the end. and the 2nd tattoo, which is on her...uhm rear end, reads '$MZU' the ending letters to the Authors name. Acid-tan has the 2nd biggest bustline of the Virus-tans (this comes from the text string "Program too big for memory" which can be found in files infected with the Acid virus) Acid-tan is quite promiscuis, and often wears revealing or indecent clothes, if it shows alot of skin then she'll wear it. Acid-tan won't hesitate to use her looks to get things to go into her favor, infact if McAfee-tan weren't around Acid-tan would probably be alot more powerful (I say this for we all know Norton-kun and what he's famous for being...a pervert >_>) Acid-tan also has a habit of borrowing things and keeping them for herself often times claiming she forgot she had it (this is another referance to one her alias names; Keeper.Acid.670.).

Yo Gus-san!  ^__^
Thank you for contributing such excellent artwork to our forum!  ^v^
It's very important for everyone to do their part in making this site a bustling hub of creativity, and I'm glad that in my absence there have been talented individuals such as yourself that have taken up the slack!  ^V^

And even though you did express some concern about your drawing style in your first post, I like it and I definitely see a definitive understanding of Anime elements as well as proportions.  Besides, with each passing drawing I see an evolutionary improvement of your drawing style. -- combine that with your breakneck speed, and you'll be a manga guru in no time flat!  Cause after all, you not only win in drawing, but also in the department of character development!!  ^v^

Unfortunately there's just way too much to say about your drawings, and I'm a bit short on time, so I'll just put everything to the well-established fact that a picture is worth "a thousand words"....

Like Tsubashi-san corrected, Infinity-san did create three Virus-tans and plus there's Viru-tan from the Nijiura.com board, but I love your new additions to the Windoze-eating family and so came up with a way to integrate them all into one big happy family:

(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11498/mini577.jpg)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11498/mini498.jpg)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11498/mini536.jpg)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11498/mini600.jpg)(http://ostan-collections.net/annex/Images/miniAbraxas.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/annex/Images/miniAcid.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/annex/Images/miniAcme.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/annex/Images/miniAh.png)

Just to clarify, this is done in Infinity Zero Vision style!  So even though infinity-san isn't around, consider this a de facto collaborative project + welcome gift to you as our newest artist to the OSC forum.  ^.^
The blue bordered ones were drawn by Infinity-san, the green ones are my own cheap-but-still-rendered-with-pride knock-offs.  ^v^

I hope you like, you deserve it!  ^.^

Added after 13 minutes:

BTW, of all your Viru-tans, I have to shamefully admit that my favorite one is,... hands-down,... Acme-sama.....

She's adorable AND a throwback to my Road Runner/Wile E Coyote viewing years, so I "lovez" her quite a lot.  ^___________^

Hohoho... I had forgotten about my mafiaso alter ego....  ^.^

Thanks a mil, Fighting Bunny!  ^v^
It's been a long time since I tried doing an Infinity Zero Vision bootleg, and actually this is my first time I did so for human characters (usually it was just with a certain black pig).  Don't know why I got the urge to do so,... something about Gus-san's drawings and virus premise just made the cogwheels in my brain turn.  ^___^;

Abraxas-chan took a while to do since I was trying to painstakingly emulate every facet of Infinity-san's basic template.  But once that got going, the rest of them were a cinch timewise.  Theoretically-speaking, once additional eyes/mouths/glasses/hand positions/special effects are made, creating additional poses for each character will be as easy as assembling a Mr. Potato Head.  And to create new ones would require redrawing only the hair, clothing and altering the eye color.  Indeed, the design concept is simple yet powerfully-effective and extremely cute to boot -- best of all, it wouldn't be too hard to learn how to create your own Mini.  -v-

Now back to Gus-san, I reckon it's a bit too early for him to take requests, especially since he seems determined to work on Virus-tans in alpha-order (beginning with A's).  But if requests are in order, I would probably have to vouch for a Melissa-tan.  Given the wide-spread havoc she caused, I'd envision her as one of Viru-sama's top generals (not unlike the Mazoku Generals from the Slayers series).

Heh, thanx C-chan I truly appreciate your kind words, and for the welcome gift/de facto collabritive project. Acme-sama is indeed adorable, and seeing her in Infinity Zero Vision makes her even MORE adorbale :3

Hmm, while I'm at it...

-Newcomer- Bliss-tan
(http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s29/PichuRocket12/Bliss-tan.png)

Bliss-tan- A happy go lucky Virus-tan, Bliss-tan is probably one of the most mysterious Viru-tans around, for the simple (or rather, not so simple) fact that she acts so little like a virus and causes little to no trouble at all (Abraxas-tan is an expection to this, for her personality maybe similar to Bliss-tans, but it's due to a bug in her progamming therefore, it's not her TRUE nature). Bliss-tan was noted as one of the first 'Viruses' to be able to 'infect' the Lunix/Unix-tans, but the only thing known to be of a nuisance was the fact that she attached herself to the victim (klinging to them rather cutely) which would sometimes obstruct the Lunix/Unix-tans from normal tasks, if asked to leave she will thank them for their time and leave as she was asked to (A referance to the true Bliss virus, for it has a a command line action named '-bliss-uninfect-files please'. If executed, the virus will actually remove itself from the infected files). Due to her behavior she was never isolated, and is kept among the Lunix/Unix-tans, which marks her as the 1st Viru-tan to co-exsist with OS-tans without causing any real upset in balance. Bliss-tan is capable of flight, and is sometimes seen flying in the sky when she goes outside to play. As of now, no one seems to know why Bliss-tan isn't as malicious as her fellow virus-tans, some even believe she shouldn't even be classified a virus. Her appearance is based off 2 pokemon, Happiny (Chansey's pre-evolved stage) for her prodominant pink color as well as the fact that Bliss-tan is depicted to look rather young, and Clefairy (her angel-like wings) both of said pokemon have something relevent to the concept of Happiness (Happiny having the word 'Happy in her name, and Clefairy who can be alternatively obtained when it's baby form, Cleffa, harbours great affection towards it's trainer). Bliss-tan's personality is derived from her name, which is another meaning for 'Happiness' or 'Joy', the fact that the only 'infection' she can inflict is klinging to her victim is yet another referance to the Bliss virus.

-Also I don't mind requests, C-chan ^^

You're more than welcome, Gus-san.  ^___^
If you don't mind, I think I'll use Acme-san as my experimental Infinity Zero character template.  Of course you'll have access to the source when I'm done, so you too can poser her in 20+ combinations, or create your own mini (assuming the experiment works).  ^.^

As for Bliss-tan, what can I say?  She's cute as a button, and as pink as Chibiusa!  ^v^
If I stare at the glorious display of pink sugariness any longer, I'll need insulin shots.  ^__^

It does make her rather special that she's a *Nix virus, since those are rare and few, and (as with Bliss-chan) rarely destructive.  Only with Linux/Unix could you possible get benign viruses... truly the sanctity of Life...!  ^v^

As for why she was created, I reckon it's just for the author to prove that he/she could.  While the majority of virus writers today are lifeless young dolts, and/or are working covertly for the major anti-virus firms and security software firms (to help keep them in business), it would seem that old-school virus writers tends to be more idealistic, hence it's no surprise that one of them came out with such a harmless virus.

In any event, I know of a certain pink sugar heart maiden who's gonna get "'Mini'fied" tonight!  ^v^

Quote-Also I don't mind requests, C-chan ^^

Okey-doke!  ^__^
In that case, I cast my vote on a Melissa-san.  `v'
Not necessarily now,... just when you reach the "M's".  ^___^

That Bliss-tan is so adorable! And her clinging onto others is so cute I must draw it! :D (In fact, that will be my next picture idea!)

I think she now my favorite of the virus-tans! (sorry, Acme-tan!) I also like Bliss-tan because she's very different from the other virus-tans, one that is pretty much harmless and able to co-exist with OS-tans!

But before I end this post, I have a couple of questions.

1. What does it exactly mean for a virus to be isolated?

2. What is the Melissa virus?

Sure, go right ahead dood, I don't mind in the least ^^d and thank you

Yeah *Nix viruses are a rarity, for most that were intended not to cause any damage (i.e. the Morris worm and the Melissa worm, believe it or not) ended up doing the exact opposite. if only the virus writers of today would learn to be idealistic like the retro virus writers :/

Hm, now that I remember it, I do recall reading some where that Bliss was created simply to prove that the Linux machines could contract viruses.

Also I can't wait to see a Mini'fied Bliss-tan :3 I predict that Bliss-chan's cuteness will be over 9,000 when she's Mini'fied, my scouter says so.

Heh thanx Aurora-san, Ooo I can't wait to see the pic dood *sits and waits anxiously*

And to answer your questions:
1-Simple, think of it as a sort of exile, since (some) Virus-tans natrually cause problems for OS-tans, many who are caught are then banished to their own area where they live amongst one another, this is a take on the term Zoo virus which means a virus isn't in active circulation and therefore can't or doesn't spread) though there are viruses/worms who are still loose ('In the wild' as we may call it)

2-Melissa isn't nessicarily a virus, more of a worm, since it's a mass mailer and didn't corrupt any system files on computers it infected, anywhom the Melissa was a computer worm that shutdown the internets mailing system that got backed-up by it's infected e-mails. Another note  of interest about Melissa was (like the Morris worm) wasn't intended to cause any harm, but since it completely flooded servers it caused alot of unforseen problems.

...Aw shoot I don't have a new Virus tan ready yet...but I do know which one is next and her name is Bomber-tan

Hoh.... you think so?  Pink Sugar is cute, I'll give you that, but I think I'm still an unwavering Acme-sama fanpig.  Must be cause she likes to [try to] torment a good Windoze... ^.^

In fact, my LOVE for Acme-sama is so great, I actually forgot to work on Mini Bliss-tan because of my experimentation with Acme-tan's template..... ^^;
I mean it's a nice investment, given it'll make future work on minis (including Bliss-chan) much easier, but still it's the kinda thing that would make Pink Sugar cry (so y'all better just cover for me, 'kay?  ^^)

Progress on the template is going well, I think.  With the currently embedded set of eyes, mouths, eyelashes, ears, arms and fixings, here's a couple of possible combinations:

(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme01.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme02.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme03.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme04.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme05.png)(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/miniAcme06.png)

I probably should expand the template just a little more, since the current 120x120px size crops her hammer quite badly, and may be a problem with later characters... ^^;
(on the other hand, I could just make the hammer smaller.... ^.^;)

Oooh... kinda forgot that Melissa-san is actually a worm.... @.@
That complicates things... not to be discriminatory, but these are virus-tans after all....  -.-'

Hmmm,... gonna have to request something else more destructive.....  Â¬__¬

Then again, Gus-san is the obvious virus expert here, so d00d I leave it in your hands to come up with an uber virus that'd make for a perfect "general".  ^___^

You could also slide the hammer down in her grip to help it fit in the same parameters without changing its size.

While I'm in here, Gussy, I should also say that I'm quite fond of your Virus-tan designs.  I, like the others, am particularly fond of Acme-tan and Bliss-tan. ^_^

Aww look a Bliss-chan, my caculations were correct her cuteness is over 9000 and Acme-tan looks cute when she's mad :3

Great work on those C-chan, I might even try my hand at doing minis one day, it looks like it would be a real blast ^_^

-Newcomer Bomber-tan-

Bomber-tan- A Hyper-active virus tan who is an avid lover of all things that go 'BOOM'. Her attire and colors are a referance to Bomberman (one of my favorite characters I might add), infact her name rhymes with Bomberman. Her hat is a homeage to the Bomb enemy Poppy Bros.Jr whom appears frequently in the Kirby series. Bomber-tan has constant impulse to 'bomb' things, which makes it near impossible to get anything done whilst in her presence. however this doesn't mean she isn't capable of strategic planning, infact her methods are just that when she often sets remote landmines around a set area, then when the victim is within range, she'll activate them simualtaneously causing maximum damage (this method is derived from the Bomber virus method of infecting files, otherwise known as 'patchy infection') Bomber-tan has an unlimited arsenal of explosives of many kinds and can materialize them out of nowhere (like Acme-tan and her hammerspace) she also has complete control over her bombs even being able to move them around using only her mind alone (another referance to the Bomberman franchise, for in most recent games, Bomerman is capable of moving the bombs he sets via Remote Control). She admires Acme-tan and is currently apprenticing under her, she affectionatly calls her teacher 'Ookami-sama'

That Bomber-tan is DA BOMB!!! :D

She loves bombs and explosives as much as some of the Mac-tans do! Also having telepathic control over bombs, ability to materialize bombs, landmine bombs, impulse to bomb things.... Wow! That girl's got MAD BOMBING SKILLS! And that she's also friends with Acme-tan makes her even more awesome! ;010

Why thank you, Gus-san, but thank YOU for making them cute to begin with.  ^v^

Now if you are interested in making some minis, try downloading their SVGs so you can save on double work... ^___^

http://ostan-collections.net/downloads.php?cat=7

Use the vector graphics program Inkscape to open those files.

http://www.inkscape.org/

Don't worry about a thing as the program is free AND open source, and best of all cross-platform (so whether you're working in Windows, Mac or Linux, Inkscape will always be around)!  ^v^

The Acme-tan will likely be the most useful for you, as it already includes the template in progress.  Changing her expression is as easy as hiding and unhiding layers. ^.^

QuoteNewcomer Bomber-tan-

Wow!  Acme-sama has attained such epic fame already, she's already been given an apprentice!  ^v^
Great work again, and like Aurora-sama said, she'd make for a very seamless ally to the Mac-tans!  ^___^

Better watch out, else the Windoze-tans are gonna start thinking that Bomber-tan is a hitwoman (hitvirus?) hired by the rival Apple family.... ^____^;

Unfortunately her Mini will have to wait a bit as I'm in a crunch with other OS-tan drawings, but rest assured she is on queue!  ^.^

Thanx dood-ette ^_^d

Hm, I never knew Mac-tans like bombs that much, but it makes for an interesting idea that I may impliment into a drawing in the near future. I figured Acme-sama and Bomber-tan would be perfect for each other (what with Bomber-tans hyper activity and Acme-sama's devotion to being a virus)

-Newcomer (c)Brain-tan-
(http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s29/PichuRocket12/Brain-tan.png)

(c)Brain-tan- A professional type of virus tan with a serious, CEO type of dispostion, (c)Brain-tan's appearance based on that of a professor (looking more closely one can identify it as a referance to Makai Kingdom, for the Professor Class wears a similar attire to that of (c)Brain-tan) this is due to her name, for Brain is usually associated with someone of high intelligence (ex: Brains of the operation). Of course, this isn't saying (c)Brain-tan herself isn't intelligent, for the fact that she's not only intelligent, but a supergenius at best! despite being a virus of early descentwell as the other virus-tans as a very valuable ally, her intellect and ability to strategize is 2nd to none and is of high importance in the effort to cause mayhem for the OS-tans. However an interesting note about (c)Brain-tan is that she doesn't believe in needless destruction, instead she relies on strategy and wit alone to get the job done (this is derived from the virus itself, for it's payload isn't destructive at all,  instead it rearranges things, such as boot sectors, little by little in a matter that can cause problems later on, this very method can make the virus almost undetectable, at least to those who pay little to no attention). (c)Brain-tan writes notes on various things she discovers (most of these are notes on McAfee-tan and Norton-kun), and doesn't appreciate it when others touch or even look at them (this is another referance to the virus, for it was originally desigined to protect medical software from copyright infringment). She also dislikes answering the phone, for she fears it could be 'someone she 'doesn't want to speak to' (another referance to the virus, for due to the fact that the (c)Brain virus was created to protect something, it still caused problems for other users who unwittingly contracted it, thusly the multitude of users who's computers were infected, called the authors of (c)Brain, by use of the phone number included with in the virus' text string. the fact that so many called, forced the 2 authors to cut their phone line off...). (c)Brain-tan is one of the Viru-sama's top generals which is due to her flawless ability to plan and strategize, however she isn't the only virus-tan to become a general, as we will soon find out...

I'm glad for that.  ^__^
I'm not sure if everyone here is on the same page as I am in creating a new subculture; however, just speaking for myself, make it my personal goal not only to help, but to encourage and motivate new artists.  The Japanese artists didn't become great just by sitting around and drooling over other people's artwork.  They're able to create such magnificent works of art -- and in such great quantities -- because they just DRAW.  I don't know how much encouragement they get from friends and peers and society as a whole, but I do know for certain that you have works that deserve to be hoisted on a museum wall alongside drawings that seem apt for a 3-year old, and yet they all continue to draw, always finding new and incredible ways to improve their style and boost efficiency.

Are only comparative disadvantage is that many of our Western societies have lost that sense of fulfilllment, openness and participation (with respect to artwork anyway).  Since it is true that misery loves company, it becomes very easy for someone of a mediocre mindset to criticize a creative individual for not drawing in a preset style (e.g., Anime), or discourage said person from attempting it at all if he's non-Japanese.  This is done in the hopes of keeping everyone around him mediocre, perhaps to elevate his own status?  It seems ironic yet fitting that such people are so quick to denounce free artists as "egotistical", when they themselves are often some of the most self-centered people you'll ever have the displeasure of meeting.

Unfortunately this works very often, and a lot of would-be artists who post in particularly nasty places will emo very quickly because of majority rule ("what's the point of drawing if EVERYONE will hate me and my work"?).  This may sound overly dramatic, but with each discouraged artist there's one extinguished hope, which -- in tandem with other discouragements in real life -- ultimately leads to yet another discontented soul in our hopeless, bleeding culture.

Therefore, you can tell how proud I am of anyone in our forum who chooses to draw, and how overjoyed I am to see the number of artists grow incrementally each day.  That's because with each additional bit of creativity, we lay another brick in the foundation of a new culture, one that sees the end of people giving up something before they even try it, and the beginning of a sense of "initiative".  If you want something done, you just get up and do it, not wait for someone to do it for you -- that's the kind of mindset that not only creates proud and talented people, but also builds fine countries!  ^^

So regardless of what you draw or how you think you draw, please keep doing it.  Even if you think my praise shallow, know that I have full confidence that you will seek to improve and challenge yourself.  Already I see an amazing improvement in your drawing style with Brain-sama, which leads me to believe that you're willing to explore new techniques and horizons as you take in inspiration and encouragement around you!  ^o^

The more people do it, the more comfortable others will feel to jump in the bandwagon.  And if they aren't comfortable drawing, perhaps they'd prefer to contribute with a story?  Or a song?  Or a 3d model?  Or a Wiki edit?  Or in gathering pictures to grow our gallery?  Or in collecting links to valuable sites?  Or in advertising our sites via other outlets?  Or in brainstorming?  Or in providing technical support?  Or by creating a video game?  Or by creating a full-fledged video?

And ultimately, perhaps by collaborating with various other individuals to pool their resources for one ambitious and marvelous project!

But the least anyone can do is simply to cheer others on in their artistic endeavors, because when it comes time for it, we'll want them to do the same for us one day.  ^^

The more people participate in this, the more exciting this exchange of ideas and talent becomes, and the easier it becomes for everyone to pursue our goals (which at the end of the day, are a lot similar than we'd like to think)!  ^-^

In any event, that's what amounts to C-chan pep talk these days.  Sorry if it's long, but when I write with SOUL I just get possessed like that.  ^.^
(probably in dire need of a spellchecker too, but too lazy for it...)  -v-;

Yay mini Bomber-tan :3

-Newcomer Byte Bandit-tan- Also my 1st pic to be uploaded in m' own user gallery Huzzah!!

Byte Bandit-tan- A stotic and destructive Virus-tan, her personality is derived from the virus' destructive payload which can cause file loss and even system failrue, her appearance is that of a theif of sorts, the pattern and color of her scarf is based off of a common design found on a large green (sometimes, disporportionate) bag a theif carries his stolen goods in (usually found in japanese anime, for example, the character T.A.C from Kirby Super Star has such a bag). Unlike most of her fellow virus-tans, Byte Bandit-tan targeted only the Amiga Family and quickly became the most feared, for she was quick, precise and destructive in her assualts. What made her unique is that she was never stealthy about her attacks like normal Virus-tans were, instead she administers a straight-forward, all out assualt against her target. She has 'Ninja claws' hidden within her large sleeves, said claws are attached to long chains. The claws are mainly used to grapple and/or hook into things so either the victim can't run or stick into solid objects (wood, stone ect.) so she can move around the battlefeild more strategically. She also has a technique in which she'll create clones a la the (cliched) Ninja Clone technique, to do this she'll state her name and then say a number, the number will determine the number of 'clones' that will appear (another referance to the virus, for in it's text string it states it's name and the number of copies it has created of itself). Eventually, she and Lamer Exterminator-tan met and joined forces to wreck havoc on their main enemy; CAOS-tan, but despite being out matched she remained strong and fought the both of them off, this would go on for sometime, until her discontinuation/death, after this occured Byte Bandit-tan and Lamer Exterminator-tan, disappeared...However, as of now, they have been spotted near the grave of their former advisary, possibly gaurding it from vandals or mourning the loss of their greatest rival, both she and her partner are Virus-tan Generals. contrary to popular belief, Byte Bandit-tan rarely steals things from others...

Yes, you're back!  I've missed your viru-tans, Gus-san!  ^v^

Two things:

1)  Thank you for reading my long monologue (w/ hint of rant and a dash of wall-of-text).  It means a lot to me that you understand and want to be a part of our grand endeavor!  ^v^

2)  Thank you for using the GIMP!  Supporting open source software is equally empowering, so that qualifies you for "instant win"!  ^.^

I myself use GIMP or Krita every once in a while, but mostly I just deal with Inkscape.  Speaking of which,....

Sorry if I've neglected Brain-sama, but in between my Windows 95 OSR 2.5 pic and working with the new Mini template, she sorta slipped through the cracks.... ^^;

On the other hand, I can share with you one of my characters in Mini form as a show of solidarity.  ^.^

Mini PalmOS-tan:

Use it at your leisure if you like, as that work is 100% faux GPL.  ^.^

In addition, I can also offer the latest version of the Mini OS-tan template, which is probably a lot easier and more interesting to use than the one that I posted earlier:

http://ostan-collections.net/downloads.php?view=detail&id=94

Use it at your leisure if you like, as that work is 100% faux GPL. ^.^

Aww lookie there a mini PalmOS-tan, for some reason when I look at this I think of fun-sized skittles...which is good for I'm a skittles addict ^^

-Newcomer Cascade-tan-
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/Cascade-tan.png)

Cascade-tan- a quirky and eccentric virus tan, her appearance is based somewhat on Misty from Pokemon (her swimsuit) for in the Pokemon Games (1st, and 2nd Generations) Misty is a Gym Leader to a Water Pokemon gym and defeating her in battle will earn you a Cascade Badge. Cascade-tan's rabbit ears are coined from 'Playboy Bunnies' which in anime are usually associated with casinos this all stems to her alias name 'BlackJack' a card game usually played in casinos. Cascade-tan is quite flexible and lithe, which makes her very much capable of being a stealth virus (this being a referance to the true virus for it's at 1st virtually undetecable until it does something), however she would rather be more humoruos rather than malicious. Cascade-tan is quite the quirky one,  She has an uncanny ability that allows her to control text, words or speech, this being said, Cascade only uses this ability to make others look, well...stupid (ex-she'll use her ablilty to make some one speak jibberish or mix up words so they can't read them). This ablility is a referance to the virus itself, for the Cascade virus functions by 'pulling' any text typed on the infected computer into a pile. Similar to Bliss-tan, Cascade isn't neccisarilly considered 'Malicious' but rather is a nusciance to those around her. She is usually found in the company of Rabbit.exe-tan

Brain-sama looks adorable in mini form, I'm especially fond of the 1st in which she's cleaning her glasses, definetly something she'd do alot

now up next is Cerberus-tan, and there maybe a virus-kun as well *gasp*

GAAAAAH!!! Bunny girls rulez-err!!!  ^v^

And she's friends with Mimail-chan (aka, Rabbit.exe-tan), so clearly much pointage offered there for tying your characters to those created by your fellows OSC peers.  ^.^
The great the interaction and sharing there is, the stronger we become!  ^v^

I know you say you used Kasumi (Misty) as your inspiration, but she kinda reminded me of Mikuru when I first laid eyes on your beauty...

All in all, the design is great,... and again, I really must point out your exponentially cleaner lines.  So whatever you're doing, don't stop as it's working and it shows evident improvement with each passing Virus-tan.  ^v^

QuoteAww lookie there a mini PalmOS-tan, for some reason when I look at this I think of fun-sized skittles...which is good for I'm a skittles addict ^^

Ahhh,... never quite thought of her like candy,.. but sure why not, that can be arranged!  ^v^

[to Palm-tan]  Palm-chan!  I wish for skittles candy!!  ^v^

*pyrotechnic magic*

Whooops........ sorry, she conjured up malt balls instead.  ^____^;
Bad hand genie!  No treats for you!  ^.^

QuoteBrain-sama looks adorable in mini form, I'm especially fond of the 1st in which she's cleaning her glasses, definetly something she'd do alot

That one I like too, just because it's a slight departure from infinity-sama's templates.  I know imitation is the best form of flattery, but can't be a carbon copy all the time, eh?   ^________^

In any event, Brain-sama DOES look perfect for a general type.  ^.^

-Newcomer-Cerberus-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/Cerberus-tan.png)

Cerberus-tan- A rough, and tough virus-tan with a dog like dispostion. Cerberus-tan's appearance is based on the mythological monster 'Cerberus' (her dog ears, paws and collar) while her tail is coined from Kerberos from Card Captor Sakura (there are designs of angel like wings on the back of Cerberus-tan's jacket, these desgins are also a referance to Kerberos), her attire has a sort of urban/street feeling to it. Cerberus-tan (as stated above) is quite the rough one, and is definetly someone you don't want to annoy, for she's been known to get pretty violent with those who really piss her off. However, despite her imposing disposition, she is faithfully loyal and protective to those she's close to (much like a dog), this being said, it is not uncommon for her to put her life on the line in order to protect her fellow virus-tans from just about anything she sees as a threat. Cerberus-tan is currently the "bodygaurd" of Viru-sama, and is very devoted to her position as well (another referance to 'Cerberus' for he was the gaurd dog of Hades). Cerberus-tan also has a bad habit of chasing strange things, this includes but is not limited to; butterflies, birds, cars and even her own tail. Her collar seems to have a broken chain attached to it, which points to the fact that Cerberus-tan may have escaped from somewhere, but she never really says anything about her past, or where she was born, so it's currently unknown as to why it's broken. She dislikes NT-tan (Inu-T), and whenever they meet, the 2 of them begin barking at one another...literally, however these 'disputes' rarely escalate to anything violent, she and Acme-tan are also locked in a rivalry of their own, though it seems to be on more friendly terms. It is unclear if Cerberus-tan is a general, like (c)Brain-tan, for she is close to Viru-sama and those close to Viru-sama are considered high in rank, but she doesn't seem to really want to cause any direct mayhem for the OS-tans themselves, instead she claims that "I'm just doin my job as a gaurdian". Cerberus-tan does enjoy being scratched behind her ears and on her tummy, but dislikes loud noises, and bad smells. Cerberus-tan is also quite skilled with a wooden sword and is said to rival even 95-tan in combat. It is also believed that she used to be apart of a street gang before she became a bodygaurd to Viru-sama.

QuoteWhy do I feel like some Kerberos (from Card Captor Sakura) references are in order? ^___^

It seems you've predicted the future C-chan.

Wai!!  Gus-san, this gal's got looks!!!  ^v^

A unique and spicy blend of tough and cute, with a nonchalant face that oozes with self-confidence, and a wonderful backstory with Viru-sama that's gonna eventual require a fully-body rendition (I've been meaning to create an "army of virus" pictures for some time, although the complexity and my lately SLOW performance means it's not gonna happen soon.... ^^;).  I love Cero-chan!!  And I'm gonna bump her up the queue in my list of girls that need Minification.  ^.^

Speaking of which, the minis won't be for naught -- I'm thinking of using them as standardized icons for the OS-tan Wiki, meaning the ones I made  will be perfect I think for use in the articles describing your Virus-tans.  ^___^

(Speaking of descriptions, which system does Cero-chan actually infect in real life?  '__')

Oh no worries dood, we all have teh busy schedules. And I must say that Byte Bandit-tan ownz!!

...Hmm Although Bandit chan is smaller...one must still be vigilant, for you know how the sayin goes: "Big things come in small packages"

Guess who learned a new spell

Gussy Keniji casts: A-Bomb-tan!!

A-Bomb.878-tan- A confident and rash virus-tan who loves being naughty <3. Her apperance (the sunglasses, the color of her dress and the '5' on the side of the dress) is based off of Mr.5 from One Piece, who in the series has the power to make ANY part of his body explode like a bomb. A-Bomb-tan is one of the more nasty viru-tans, being she's not only destructive, but she uses exellent stealth techniques to hide herself from being discovered, she's can be a bit rash and doesn't normally think things through (a referance to the virus for it infects any file as soon as it's executed) which more than often gets her into more trouble than she bargained for. A-Bomb takes real pride in being naughty and enjoys her life as a virus to the fullest, this being said Viru-sama is considering making A-Bomb-tan into a General. She has a habit of saying "Times ni!" at the end of her sentences (usually when she's excitied about something or describing something) this action is another referance to the virus for one of the symptoms a computer shows when it's infected with A-Bomb is that infected files execute twice when they are run. She also enjoys hanging out with Mydoom-tan

A-chan's the first virus I ever got acquainted with (in the captivity of a computer lab, of course), so I think of her as somewhat special.  ^___^

Okay, I think it's bout time I got back into the groove of drawin viru-tans now that I'm beginning to rebound from my artistic burnout (yeah, even a King Viru-tan designer like myself needs a lil down time >_>) I can begin to make my comback

So here's what I've been plannin on doin-

-Lamer Exterminator-tan: Byte Bandit-chan's partner and equally dangerous advisary to the Amiga family
-CIH/Chernobly-tan: The most vain of the virus-tans, believes SHE's the only one that counts, greatest rival is 3.1-tan
-Butterfly-tan: An air-head and avid lover of flowers, friend to Spida-tan, but sorta fears her
-Whale-tan: A dsicreet and secretive virus tan, stealthiest virus in teh worldz O,O
-A sorta cosplay thing, Example being, Cerberus cosplayin as Viru-tan and vice versa
-Hardware-tans
-Virus kuns
-(maybe) A comic starring Acme-tan and her friends

so there ya go, a 'to do list' for Gus-san, feel free to ask about anything YOU want me to draw (in short you can ask for requests)

Ah-ha!!  Gus-san's back!!! ^v^
Yeah, I look forward to seeing more stuff from you, although right now I'm barred from making any recommendations due to my delay in creating a Mini Cerberus and Mini A-Bomb.  ;___;
(Besides, not that I'd know of any other ones to begin with.... ^.^;)

I bet 25 kudos that I'll love the Cerberus/Viru-tan Cosplay picture.  ^__^
Likewise, I retract 25 kudos for the impending threat to my poor Amiga-sama.  ^v^;

Whale-tan I'm kinda curious about, since how can something that big be discreent and secretive?  0o0
(Or perhaps along the lines of ironic character design, she's actually the smallest viru-tan of all?  ^.^;)

In any event, locked and loaded for swoonage.  ^___^

Phew, after along wait, I Gussy Keniji have returned... ... ...eh sorta, though I have drawn alot more Viru-tans and such, I regret to inform you that my internet connection is offically botched (mind you I'm at school doin this), thus I can't be around as much as I used to...geeze, and as soon as I make my comeback too *anime fumes spurt from Gussy's head*

Anyhoo, enough with teh bad stuff, why not get some of those new Virus-tans (as well as other works) out here for your viewin' pleasure ^^

Newcomer-Lamer Exterminator-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Lamer_Exterminator-tan.png)
Lamer Exterminator-tan- Byte Bandit-tan's partner, and accomplished weapons master, Lamer is a bit more defensive and stealthy compared to her friend which some say makes her the most dangerous out of the 2. Her appearance is a bit more technological and cybernetic compared to Byte Bandit, a possible parody of the 'Terminator' series (being Exterminator has just about the same meaning as 'Terminator'). Lamer is a bit more upbeat in terms of personality compared to Byte Bandit, being whimscal and playful (and even childish at times...) but being her idea(s) of 'playtime' involves high powered lasers and explosives, many see her as more of a sadist. Lamer is capable of materalizing many types of weapons (many of these weapons are futuristic, like lasers and such) and is a prodigy when holding one. Being of the stealthy sort, Lamer is highly distinguised in ambush tactics (something you'd expect from her partner >_>) and Sniping. Another interesting note about Lamer is that she absolutely loves to say catch phrases, unfortunetly most of these said catch pharses are cheezy or 'lame' (a referance to her own name). As like Byte Bandit, Lamer's enemy and target, back in her glory days, was the Amiga family, CAOS-tan in particular. combined with Byte Bandit's destructive assualts and her own stealth and marksmenship, the 2 of them were virtually unstoppable...that is until the discontinuation of CAOS, after which the 2 lost interest in fighting the Amiga tans, and disappeared. After sometime of obscurity they were discovered by Viru-tan and as fate would have it Lamer and Byte Bandit became minions to her, and quickly became Generals in their own right. Currently, both Lamer and Byte Bandit are found usually near Viru-tans residence as the 2nd line of defense against intruders (the last line being Cerberus-tan) but occasionally they can be spotted near the grave of CAOS-tan, paying their respects to a once worthy advisary...

Newcomer-CIH-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_CIH-tan.png)
CIH-tan- A conceited Virus-tan thinking she's the better of all her fellow virus-tans, (this is different than Acme-tan, for Acme-tan has pride in her viral heritage, while CIH has pride only in herself). CIH-tan has THE largest bustline of the virus tans (this is due to her large file size) The fact that CIH is actually a dangerous virus-tan only fuels her over inflated ego. CIH has  sees 3.1-tan as a bitter rival (forgive me, Captain), being she cannot 'infect' 3.1 being DOS oriented OS's aren't affected by CIH's dangerous payloads. It is unknown whether CIH is an actual general, being as powerful as she is nasty one could easily say that she most likely is a general, but on the other hand CIH doesn't usually associate herself with Viru-sama or her objectives and instead works solitary (much like Acid-tan). CIH's appearance (the radioactive symbol and color scheme) is coined from her 2nd name; Chernobly, which was an actualy nuclear power plant. while her chinese-esque dress is a referance to where CIH was 1st discovered, Taiwan.

Newcomer- Butterfly-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Butterfly-tan.png)
Butterfly-tan- A slightly air headed virus-tan, who loves flowers. Butterfly tan's appearnce is based loosely off of Sol Titania from the game Megaman Zero (the way her anteena are shaped and the 'barrettes' on her head). Butterfly-tan is (as mentioned above) is an air head, so she's blissfully ignorant to the many things her fellow virus-tans are completely aware of, She was at 1st friends with Telemate-tan (whom I may draw later) and because the 2 of them traveled extensively (and also because of Butterfly's rather oblivious nature) Butterfly unwittingly caused alot of damage, after it was discovered that Butterfly tan was indeed behind the damages, she was seperated from Teleware-tan and thus ended up with Viru-sama and her minions. Butterfly has befriended Spida-tan but is somewhat afraid of her aswell...

Newcomer- Whale-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Whale-tan.png)
Whale-tan- A discreet and secretive Virus-tan. Whale-tan's appearance is similar to that of Saba, having a swimsuit with a fish-like tail, only the swimsuit in question has features similar to that of a Blue Whale, the '8' on the front of the swimsuit is a referance to one of her 3 alias names '8fish'. Her secretive and quiet personality stems from the fact that the Whale virus is still considered the 'stealthiest' virus in the world despite the up to date, and ever changing security measures of Norton and McAfee. Whale-tan is noted to having the 2nd largest bustline of the Virus-tans, this stemming from the fact that the Whale virus's file size is 9,216 bytes(!). Whale-tan rarely speaks of her origin or her past, thusly little is known about her early virus life, however a quick peek in (c)Brain-tan's files indicate that Whale-tan was supposedly leading a large group of viruses, while in this group she went under the alias 'Mama Ningyo' (a referance to her true alias name 'Mother Fish'. According to the files she along with her many followers were eventually going to take down the Windows family, via infiltration. however due to 'complications' the group mysteriously disbanded and Whale-tan ended up working for Viru-sama as a spy. Whale-tan likes to eat fish and seafood, infact she's even been seen trying to eat Saba (actually succeeding once, but disliked the way Saba tasted and spat her back out. Whale-tan continues to hunt Saba to this day, only this time she intends to apply different seasonings to Saba). Whale-tan also goes by the nicknames Kuji-chan ('Kuji' is short for 'kujira' which means 'whale' in japanese), Whale-tan is also quite short when compared to her fellow viruses, infact she may well be the shortest there is, despite having the 2nd biggest bustline. she is also extremely sensitive about her weight, calling her 'fat' or otherwise can be a bit dangerous for one's well being...

And now for a Cosplay session with Viru-sama and, her loyal bodygaurd, Cerberus-tan :3
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_CerberusxViru-sama.png)

Lolz Viru-sama looks strange with her hair let down, doesn't she? XP

The true Gussy-san shows his face O:

And to wrap things up-Help-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Help-tan.png)
HELP-tan- A patient, and generous bookworm, who runs her own help desk. Being the avid book reader she is, she has loads of highly organized documents and books (in which she refers to as 'Topics') that are able to answer just about any question. Though at times some see that her job of keeping all the OS-tans informed is quite an impossible job, HELP-tan always disagrees and claims that "As long as there are people who have questions, I'll be there to give them answers ^_^". Although, Help-tan is avaliable to ALL OS-tans who need her assitance, she is more in tune with the Windows family. Her appearnce is that of a Librarian, and her Question Mark barette is actually the same question mark that appears on a purple book often associated with 'Help Documents'

*phew* There we go an, OVAHAUL from your dedicated Virus-tan design king, though I may not be around for a while I can assure you that I will continue to draw Virus-tans (as well as other -tans) for you guys, and hopefully submit'em...but until I can find a stable connection or at least a stable schedule in which I can submit work at other places (namely school) that provide a connection, Sayonara...

QuoteOMG, this is freakin' awesome!!!!! Not just one or two but GOBS of new Virus-tans!!!!!!!!! ^v^

Before I say anything, let me declare my love and respect for Lamer Exterminator-tan!!! I know I know, she once targeted Amigoids, but the power of good drawing is that you can turn adversaries into admirers!! @v@

I will say more, but can't at this time,... but know that much swoonage is inbound!!! ^___^

Heh, why thank ya C-chan, these 4 Virus-tans were beggin to get drawin (believe me they were) and an interesting note on Lamer Exterminator is that it was actually my 1st time drawing a huge gun and beam sword like the ones she's got with her, but judging by your reaction I can see that I did a good job for my 1st time ^^

Quote*C-chan glomps, then melts into a vat of chocolate pudding*

Mmm Chocolate pudding

QuoteIf its ok, I'd like to show my version of CIH-tan.

Bit too much radioactive colours for my taste.

Ah it seems I've attracted the talented VonDaab to meh thread :3, and may I say that your CIH-tan is awesome!! great work my friend *shiny thumbs up*

QuoteCool! Great Viru-tans!

I really like Lamer Exterminator-tan and CIH-tan (both of yours)!

Who would have guess Viru-tans would take off so much!

Thanx Bella-san, glad ya like'em.

QuoteWhale-tan.

Aww look at Whale-tan, once again VonDaab I must say great work on this ^^. lol, this sorta reminds me of one of the moments in Garfeild where that talking scale always says something sarcastic about his wieght

Ah, and it seems my internetz is starting to work fine now, so I maynot be gone after all

Our 1st Virus-kun, Ah-kun appears!!

Ah-kun- Ah-tan's younger brother, He's less like his sister in terms of personality, though he still is rather twitchy and fidgetive. Ah-kun's also intelligent and usually doesn't rush into situations headfirst, this being said he's more prone to 'freaking out' and has frequent panic attacks, sometimes fainting if he's frightened enough. The phrase 'D: 1173' on his shirt comes from the 4 numbers at the end of the virus' alias and the first letter (D) is the first letter at the beginning of the virus (David 1173) ironically enough the 'D:' symbol is a pun on his paniky nature, for that very symbol is often associated with the phrase 'Oh Noes!'. His favorite day is Tuesday and he's commonly seen the happiest on that day (this is also a refreance to the Ah virus for the virus activates every Tuesday). Ah-kun dreams of becoming a General, and works hard in order to make Viru-sama promote him to a general, however due to his panicy nature he often messes up. Ah-kun is actually afraid of his older sister, but this maybe due to the fact that Ah-kun has a slight phobia of women, and not Ah-tan's creepy nature. He is usually with Abraxas-kun, who he sees as a sort of big brother, it is also said that he has befriended Homeo, but no visual accounts exsist to back this up...

Fun notes about this pic-I was listening to Planet X while drawing Ah-kun ^^

Okay, I got a lot to reply here, but I'm gonna get it done.  ^__^
Stand by Ion Control..... -v-

*starts setting up shop*

Added after 49 minutes:

QuoteLamer Exterminator-tan- Byte Bandit-tan's partner, and accomplished weapons master, Lamer is a bit more defensive and stealthy compared to her friend which some say makes her the most dangerous out of the 2.

I was thinking the same thing.  ^___^
But with her looks, I wouldn't mind trying out this S&M thingie.... -.-;

QuoteAnother interesting note about Lamer is that she absolutely loves to say catch phrases, unfortunetly most of these said catch pharses are cheezy or 'lame' (a referance to her own name).

Fufufu... You can always watch Battlefield Earth for a whole HOST of cheesy things for her to say.  ^.^

QuoteAs like Byte Bandit, Lamer's enemy and target, back in her glory days, was the Amiga family, CAOS-tan in particular. combined with Byte Bandit's destructive assualts and her own stealth and marksmenship, the 2 of them were virtually unstoppable...that is until the discontinuation of CAOS, after which the 2 lost interest in fighting the Amiga tans, and disappeared.

Good.  ^.^
As long as they leave my Miggy alone, I'm cool with them.  Â¯v¯

Call me dumb, though, but I didn't know that CAOS was readily-available -- I thought it was just an OS under development.  '__'

QuoteAfter sometime of obscurity they were discovered by Viru-tan and as fate would have it Lamer and Byte Bandit became minions to her, and quickly became Generals in their own right. Currently, both Lamer and Byte Bandit are found usually near Viru-tans residence as the 2nd line of defense against intruders (the last line being Cerberus-tan) but occasionally they can be spotted near the grave of CAOS-tan, paying their respects to a once worthy advisary...

Awww... now I'm really gonna like them!  ^v^
However, I reckon we are starting to get packed with generals.  Pretty soon, Viru-tan is gonna have to start commanding like it's Dynasty Warriors.  ^________^;

QuoteCIH-tan- A conceited Virus-tan thinking she's the better of all her fellow virus-tans, (this is different than Acme-tan, for Acme-tan has pride in her viral heritage, while CIH has pride only in herself).

Bah!  My darling Acme-san can run rings around that snob!  ^0^
Course....

QuoteCIH-tan has THE largest bustline of the virus tans (this is due to her large file size)

....those would have to be damn big rings.... Very XPesque.... @__@'

QuoteCIH has sees 3.1-tan as a bitter rival (forgive me, Captain), being she cannot 'infect' 3.1 being DOS oriented OS's aren't affected by CIH's dangerous payloads.

She's more the exception than the norm, then.  ^.^;

QuoteButterfly-tan- A slightly air headed virus-tan, who loves flowers. Butterfly tan's appearnce is based loosely off of Sol Titania from the game Megaman Zero (the way her anteena are shaped and the 'barrettes' on her head)

She's actually very cute, although her eyes could've used a little more contrast since they blend too much with her skin color.  No worries, as I can fix that in her Mini.  ^.^

Never did play Megaman Zero, but then I haven't kept up with the Megaman universe since 1995.  ;___;

QuoteButterfly-tan is (as mentioned above) is an air head, so she's blissfully ignorant to the many things her fellow virus-tans are completely aware of

Awwwww....  So you mean she doesn't realize she's a bane to society.  How cuuuuute.... ^___^

QuoteShe was at 1st friends with Telemate-tan (whom I may draw later) and because the 2 of them traveled extensively (and also because of Butterfly's rather oblivious nature) Butterfly unwittingly caused alot of damage, after it was discovered that Butterfly tan was indeed behind the damages, she was seperated from Teleware-tan and thus ended up with Viru-sama and her minions.

Case in point.  ^v^
What's Telemate, btw?  '__'

QuoteButterfly has befriended Spida-tan but is somewhat afraid of her aswell...

Which is a feat in itself, given Spida-tan couldn't hurt a flea if she tried. ^.^

QuoteWhale-tan- A discreet and secretive Virus-tan. Whale-tan's appearance is similar to that of Saba, having a swimsuit with a fish-like tail, only the swimsuit in question has features similar to that of a Blue Whale

I love blue whales, so I'm loving the clothing design that you did!  ^v^
Course....

QuoteHer secretive and quiet personality stems from the fact that the Whale virus is still considered the 'stealthiest' virus in the world despite the up to date, and ever changing security measures of Norton and McAfee.

...I still have to wonder how SHE could go unnoticed!  @o@
Now my conspiratory mind is wondering whether it wasn't Norton, McAfee or one of their proxies that created her to begin with.  ^.^

QuoteWhale-tan is noted to having the 2nd largest bustline of the Virus-tans, this stemming from the fact that the Whale virus's file size is 9,216 bytes(!).

You sure it's not kilobytes?  Fufufu.... ^.^

QuoteWhale-tan rarely speaks of her origin or her past, thusly little is known about her early virus life, however a quick peek in (c)Brain-tan's files indicate that Whale-tan was supposedly leading a large group of viruses, while in this group she went under the alias 'Mama Ningyo' (a referance to her true alias name 'Mother Fish'.

You're tempting me to make her my favorite virus-tan!!  ^v^
Don't do this!  Acme-san will be sad!  @o@

QuoteWhale-tan also goes by the nicknames Kuji-chan ('Kuji' is short for 'kujira' which means 'whale' in japanese), Whale-tan is also quite short when compared to her fellow viruses, infact she may well be the shortest there is, despite having the 2nd biggest bustline.

*breathes sign of relief*

Phew....  ^.^
Yeah, that's better.  ^__^
Not keen on shortness, so Acme-sama is still my number one!  ^v^

*cuddles up to Acme*  ^______^

Quoteshe is also extremely sensitive about her weight, calling her 'fat' or otherwise can be a bit dangerous for one's well being...

*staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare*  ^_______________________^

QuoteAnd now for a Cosplay session with Viru-sama and, her loyal bodygaurd, Cerberus-tan :3

Lolz Viru-sama looks strange with her hair let down, doesn't she? XP

I believe the term "Instant Win" would be very appropriate here!  Especially love the way you drew up their clothes, btw!  ^v^

Just one blooper,... Viru-sama has a bang of black hair on her right side, which is kind absent here.  ^^;
But no matter, still lovin' it mucho.  ^___^

QuoteThe true Gussy-san shows his face O:

Ah-ha!  Greetings, true Gus-san!  ^.^
I'd ask what's up with the rabbit ears, but then a talking pig has no right to ask that about anyone.  ^.^;

QuoteAnd to wrap things up-Help-tan

YAOH!  ^v^
Yeah, I was hoping she'd carry around a red-and-white life ring, since that way she'd be more associated with the KDE help library.  Then again, like any person needing to put bread on their table, I figure she offers her skills the most to whomever can pay her bills more effectively.  ^.^

Still,... doesn't detract from the fact that she's a hottie.  ^____^

...

I also imagine she HATES IRC and forums like the plague, since they "sucker" users into seeking help from... *gasp* ...unofficial sources.  @o@

Quote*phew* There we go an, OVAHAUL from your dedicated Virus-tan design king, though I may not be around for a while I can assure you that I will continue to draw Virus-tans (as well as other -tans) for you guys, and hopefully submit'em...but until I can find a stable connection or at least a stable schedule in which I can submit work at other places (namely school) that provide a connection, Sayonara...

Congratulations!  That was not only awesome, but a helluva great way to declare your comeback!  I'll call it:  Gus-san's Comeback Special!  ^___^

QuoteIf its ok, I'd like to show my version of CIH-tan.

Oooooooooooooh!  ^0^

Actually,... I do agree.... the flagrantly radioactive colors and dangerous hair bun cover do add a good amount of spice to her.  ^.^

What says you, Gus-san? ^___^

QuoteWhale-tan.

*continues staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaring*  ^______________^

.........

*cracks*

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ^V^

I swear VonDaab was reading my mind.  That picture is awesome, dude!  Wonderfully drawn and funny -- an instant classic!  ^___^

QuoteOur 1st Virus-kun, Ah-kun appears!!

Fufufu.... i actually don't mind -kuns if they're shorter than the -tans.  ^__^

*keeps reading*

QuoteAh-kun- Ah-tan's younger brother, He's less like his sister in terms of personality, though he still is rather twitchy and fidgetive. Ah-kun's also intelligent and usually doesn't rush into situations headfirst, this being said he's more prone to 'freaking out' and has frequent panic attacks, sometimes fainting if he's frightened enough. Aa sou,... I wonder if this will make her like that sheep boy I've seen with Homeo.  ^^;
Still, this is an interesting development, as you're starting to add more depth to the world (subworld?) of viruses.  ^___^

QuoteDoodling...

The styles a bit different from your previous two, but you did say you were doodling.  It's still very nifty though.  ^v^

QuoteCascade-tan, too tired to get it coloured.

MIKURU VIRUS!!!!!!!!!!  And in a magician joke at that!!  ^V^

ZOMG!!!!!!!!  MAJOR CUTENESS MAGNET!!!!!!!  WIN!!!WIN!!!WIN!!!WIN!!!  ^V^

QuoteFufufu... You can always watch Battlefield Earth for a whole HOST of cheesy things for her to say. ^.^

Yeah, the next Virus-tans and kuns I'll draw will be a departure from the General ranking.

QuoteCase in point. ^v^
What's Telemate, btw? '__'

Oh right, well Telemate is a popular data communications program, that was widely distributed across various BBS and FTP sites. However, being no one knew that the Butterfly virus was with it, the end result was that thousands of infected copies of the Telemate program had been sent worldwide, thus causing alot damage.

I love blue whales, so I'm loving the clothing design that you did! ^v^
Course....
Hm, thanks alot dood :3

Yeah, figured it was bout time to add a virus-kun, Ironically, reading those Homeo comics gave me the drive to do so.

QuoteDoodling...

Heh, Whale-tan can't keep up with CIH, real spiffy Mr.VonDaab ^^d

QuoteCascade-tan, too tired to get it coloured.

lol, wonder how she's gonna pull the rabbit out, since she IS the rabbit XD

Now for a preview of stuff to come
-Esperanto-tan: A virus-tan driven by her notion to 'make the impossible possible'
-Disk-Killer-tan: A rather nasty virus-tan, who is known also as 'the Ogress'
-Sunday-tan: An easygoing and carefree virus-tan, likes to relax hates to do work.
-Mac Viruses (for belive it or not, the viruses I've drawn are all Windows, or Linux)
Cerberus-kun: Cerberus-tan's older brother, and the gatekeeper to the entrance to the Viru-tan Area.
Horror-kun: A mysterious virus-kun, who lives in a large castle all on his own. He is often labeled as a 'Vampire'
Windows Movie Maker-tan (or WMM-tan): An aspiring movie maker and director, loves to make movies relating to the Windows family.
And a comic which follows Acme-sama (I decided that I'm going to go on and make it)

Awesome!!  :)

Let me say now that that is REALLY GOOD.
Easily beyond my current drawing skill.

Please do continue, oh supplier of virus-tans.

Oh...One last thing...Your Viru-tans may have some competition.
One of my first-devised characters is a virus-tan.
Well, More precicely A worm-tan but I've said too much already.
Everyone will just have to wait 'til I start drawing (which will be soon as I just downloaded Inkscape yesterday) to see her.

On a side note : I know I sound like a total Noob saying this...but...
Is Inkscape any easier/better than M$Paint?

Thanks Techno, I appreciate it ^^

Hm, Being I've never used Inkspace I can't know for sure (I'm a dedicated GIMP user, XP) but judging by the pics C-chan and the others produce, I would say Inkspace is alot better than MSPaint. But it being easier is a different story, being this depends on how you work (it took me some time to get the hang of the GIMP, and even to this day, I still only know about 50/50 of the program completely)

but in any case I await to see what this Worm-tan will look like ^^d

The king of virus-tans has returned, and with more virus-tan goodness!

That Lamer Exterminator-tan is so cool! (even if she does say a lot of cheesy or lame things, which I actually think is cool) I think she's now my favorite of the virus-tans! (forgive me, Acme-tan and Bliss-tan!!!) I am totally drawing a fanart of her!

That CIH-tan is a dangerous one alright. With references to Chernobyl, let's just hope she doesn't get angry enough to have a 'meltdown' 0__0

Butterfly-tan is so cute! I had an idea of drawing a fanart of her flying happily but in the background, a city appears in smoking ruins! ^^;

Whale-tan is another favorite! Although I also can't help but wonder how she is able to sneak around from place to place without getting noticed because a little blue-haired whale girl is pretty darn hard not to notice!

Viru-tan does look really different with her hair down 0__0

A Help-tan was very unexpected, with virus-tans being your specialty but she's cool too!

Heheheh... Ah-kun takes after his older sister! Especially with the twitchyness and the clashing colors! :D

And VonDaab's contributions are great too! I especially like the one with Whale-tan on the scale!

I recommend taking an insurance policy out for your brain.  It may melt after watching that movie.  ^^;

QuoteHm, pretty sure you mean the Commodore 900, (being CAOS is simply an abbreviation of Commodore Amiga...I think)

Well yes, CAOS stands for "Commodore Amiga Operating System", but from what I read it doesn't actually apply to whatever native OS came with the original Commodoore machines:

http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/caos.html

AmigaOS was only purchased by Commodore Inc., but it wasn't entirely developed by them.

Quote-Esperanto-tan: A virus-tan driven by her notion to 'make the impossible possible'

Is Inkscape any easier/better than M$Paint?

Well Gus-san answered the Better part (lots of things are better than M$Paint), but as for Easier, that depends heavily on whether vector graphics are easier for you to conceptualize than raster ones.

I personally think it's easier, since you need only put lines/shapes on the Inkscape canvas, then slowly and patiently edit or rearrange them to your desire.  To do the same with pen/paper or paint programs, you would have to erase or redraw quite a bit.

Then again, I'm working on a tutorial for Inkscape as we speak:

http://ostan-collections.net/post-35902.html#35902

...So you can find out first-hand if this is the right thing for you.  ^___^

Acme-Tan (How can anyone not like her?)

Bliss-Tan (SOO..Adorably...Cute..^_^)

Cerberus-tan

and CIH-Tan (I find myself attracted to her for some reason, could that be bad for one's health?)

I know the feeling : /

But try Inkscape out! Vector art isn't as hard as many think; I've actually found it easier than working in Photoshop :D

QuoteWow, that's really awesome there, it would normallly take some time to color it as smooth as you did

And I just may well download Inkspace, but I may have to do it sometime when I have a free time at school, being my connection at home...well sucks ^^;

*does happy dance*  ^___^

Thanks Gus-san, I would appreciate that.  ^.^

If you have any problems, you know where to get my tutorial.  ^__~
I'm in the midst of working on the Color/Stroke/Gradient/Pattern section, and should have it published today or tomorrow -- with that, I should officially cover all the essential basics.  ^__^

I do agree with Bella-san -- not only is it a lost easier than it sounds, but the program is smaller and lighter (content-wise) than Photoshop, Illustrator) or GIMP, so you'll be spending less time figuring out the menus, and more time just plain ol' vector drawing.  ^___^

Also, the lines that you draw (called strokes) can automatically be accompanies by a color Fill, so technically speaking, you can ink and color at the exact same time (I did so with the example above).  I leave the actual playing to you, but I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.  ^v^

(and like GIMP, it's also a benevolent Free and Open Source app.  ^.^)

(PS:  Techno, that's an interesting avi.  ^__^)

Ah, If that's the case I'm gonna like Inkspace already

Also I have a new Virus-kun for you guys, next will probably be Esperanto-tan

Newcomer-Cerberus-kun
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Cerberus-kun.png)
Cerberus-kun- Cerberus-tan's older brother, if you thought Cerberus-chan was tough, her brother's even tougher. He has a 'hard-boiled' disposition, but deep down he has a bit of a soft side, (although he hides this soft side relentlessly). Cerberus-kun resides under the command of Viru-tan, his duty is being a gatekeeper to the the entire Virus-tan area, those who don't even remotely fit his standards of entry, are either booted off the property or (if they're bold enough) face him in a one on one dual, for which if the stranger wins, he/she gains acces to the Virus-tan Area...however there haven't been ANY accounts of those brave enough to challenge him, let alone defeat him. Cerberus-kun's past is also a mystery, but many believe that he may've been the leader of the street gang that his little sister was apart of during her youth, it is also apparent that he knew Viru-sama way before he started serving under her. He shares the same referances as his younger sis, but his appearance is similar to that of the 'Sinners' from Disgaea 2 and John Tailban of the Darkstalkers fame.

-Shading may come next
-Done to the tune 'Trance NO.4'

Thanks dood, I always wasn't that good with muslces but I feel that when i finished Cerberus-kun I may've gotten better at drawing them slightly

now for Horror-kun (yes I know I promised Esperanto-tan...she'll come next I promise)

Newcomer-Horror-kun
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Horror-kun.png)

Horror-kun- A mysterious virus-kun, who lives in a castle of his own, located on the edge of the Viru-tan Area. Little is known about him, for he rarely ventures outside of his castle walls, nor interacts with others. Many OS-tans and kuns have labeled him as "A Vampire", (for the only time he's known to be active is during the night, But, whether he truely IS of vampiric descent is currently unknown) And thus few dare venture near his domain. Horror-kun is quite paranoid so he doesn't take kindly to those who step into his home unannounced, if your ever going to visit him (Why you would, is your own business >_>) be sure to notify him 1st. Horror-kun is one of the few viruses that are NOT affiliated to Viru-sama in anyway, and instead does things on his own terms. It is speculated that Horror-kun has 3 different 'sides' of his persona; one being a mild mannered gentlemen, the next being a Lechor(pervert), and the last being a psychotic madman (a referance to the virus itself, being due to a recent analysis Horror is now known to actually be 3 seperate viruses instead of just one). His appearance is a referance to Warachia from Melty Blood, being he is able to use an ability that utulizes a person's fear, and the word 'fear' is often related to the word 'horror'. Him being labeled 'a vampire' is also a referance to his name, being Vampires are often associated with Horror films.

Myan! Double Post...but for a good reason, Gentlemen I give you Esperanto-tan

Newcomer-Esperanto-tan
(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/11594/normal_Esperanto-tan.png)

Esperanto-tan- A modest virus tan, who believes in her notion of 'making the impossible possible'. Esperanto-tan (or Esper-tan as some have called her) is probably one of the few virus-tans who were able to not only take on the Windows tans but also the Mac and DOS OS tans as well (however the only reason she is able to infect the Mac-tans is due to the fact she is half Mac virus herself), because of her diverse assortment of OS-tans she can 'infect' she is seen as a crucial ally, and is treated as though she's a general, despite the fact she has shunned all offers to ascend to the General rank. Instead she sees herself as a regular virus, despite her high level of talent and powress. However, Esper-tan is extremely persistant, and will NOT give up on a task until she completes it. As her name obviously suggests, Esper-tan is a fluent speaker of the language of the same name (though English is her 1st language) and she's known to unwittingly speak in Esperanto when she's in engaged in a conversation, this can make it a hassle  for one to know what exactly she's saying to them (even (c)Brain-sama is sometimes stumped on what she says). Abraxas-tan, however, seems to understand her and it's been known that the 2 of them can go on for hours in a conversation, completely in Esperanto. Her appearance is similar to a 'Gypsy', while the fact she's half Mac virus is a referance to the true virus, being Esperanto had a small portion of a Mac virus in it's code, which in turn, enabled it to infect Mac OSes.

Well, It's sort of a running gag. It goes like this; Brain-sama is someone you'd always want to go to when you can't figure something out (This something being Esperanto). Well, you find out she has no idea what Esperanto is, but you then discover the one person who knows Esperanto is the one many have overlooked; Abraxas-san

Pheh Double post yet again! but for (once again) a good cause

Hide your Mac-tans Its-ANTI-tan D:
ANTI-tan- A rouge doctor who is one of the rare virus tans who are able to 'infect' Mac OS-tans. ANTI-tan has split-personalities one side is seemingly kind and always strives to save a patient's life, but when she snaps her latent 2nd personality awakens, this personality is considerably violent and is intent on taking lives rather than saving them (this 2nd personality has been named Satsu ANTI, 'Satsu' literally meaning 'Murder'). Obviously enough, ANTI-tan has a vast knowledge in medicine, and surgical procedures. This being said she's extremely dangerous in combat, for she knows exactly where to 'cut' someone to insure that they're either paralyzed or dead. When she 1st appeared, ANTI-tan infiltrated the Mac House and posed as a doctor for the Mac-tans. It was originally supposed to be a rather discreet operation involving advanced tactics, but ANTI snapped and went Satsu, it is then that she went on a rampage, only to be challenged by System 6-tan, an epic fight ensued betweeb the 2, but in the end System 6 was victorous. Humiliated, ANTI-tan swore her revenge on the Mac family as well as System 6 and fled to the Viru-tan Area where she now resides as the only doctor to the Virus-tans (ironic isn't it), She currently has no ties to Viru-sama and is happy with simply being a doctor, ANTI seems to be of French descent, being she is a fluent speaker of the language, She remain in close contact with her sister Mac Viruses for as said above there aren't very many of them around. It is currently unknown as to what caused ANTI to snap back when she was with the Mac family. Her being a rouge doctor is coined from her name 'Anti', which is also the 1st word in Anti-virus, in this case it's a play on words being she's a virus against OS-tans. Her being French, is a referance to the viruses origin. The fact she has a split personality is because the true virus was only 'accidentially' destructive.

-Well...I didn't really plan for her to be this...bloody ^^;...

Also Good news everyone, I finally got Inkscape today, right now I'm testin the water and gettin used to the feel of it.

Ooooh,... Anti-san actually has the richest story to date.  ^.^
I should note that, aside from the bloodied attire, she kinda sorta reminds me of Bliss-tan.
I'm almost tempted to nickname her the Anti-Bliss or Psycho Bliss or Hannibal "Blisster".  ^___^

It is a delicious irony that she is a doctor and yet she is still a virus.  Lends some credence to that line in the original Matrix comparing humans to virii, or the characters from Elfen Lied who have it in their instinct to kill.  Virus-tans want to live decent lives, but just have it in their nature to destroy their surroundings (some more than others, as we can see with Bliss and Abraxis).  Certainly seeing your Virus-tans help picture them as living characters rather than props as they used to be depicted in the Futaba 4koma.  ^^

In any event, I'd love to think she's one of Norton-kun's most dangerous opponents (may not be relevant given she's a Mac virus though); and while he might do everything to squirm out of any kind of confrontation, the inevitable face-off would lead to epic Doctor on Doctor battles.  ^.^

After along while (once again >_>) I return! new Virus tans and some fan work are in order.

1st a the seasonal nomad- Christmas Tree-tan

Christmas Tree-tan- A Christmas loving virus, who only makes herself known on Christmas. Jolly, and somewhat oblivious to other peoples feelings toward the holiday, Christmas Tree-tan often goes about her 'duty' spreading her version of 'Holiday Cheer' regardless if your in the mood for it or not. Her known activites include; putting up decorations (without anyone's consent) singing christmas carols, and giving out hand-made presents...which are of subpar workmanship and are basically worthless at best, however she does throw a smashing good christmas party in which all are invited, be you Virus or OS your welcome to come. at first glance, she doesn't seem to have any ill-intentions in mind (at least judging by her personality) but being she's only seen when once a year, no one's really given the time to look into her more. However, one can assume that beyond her 'Holiday Spirit' she harbours a more sinister motive. As said above Christmas-Tree-tan is only seen when Christmas draws near (Decemeber 21 to be exact) after the New Year she retreats from wence she came, not to be seen until next year. Where exactly she goes is unknown, there have been numerous attempts to uncover her seasonal hideway, but paths always led to large evergreen tree with the words 'NOEL' carved on the trunk, which raises the question 'Is Christmas Tree-tan truly a virus?...or is she just a magically enchanted tree given life to spread 'Holiday Cheer' and the 'True Meaning of Christmas'?" wheather it's the latter or not is currently unknown but Brain-sama theorizes that she is both of these things. Her role isn't neccisarilly binded to the Virus-tans, she has been sighted doing her 'duty' amoungst the OS-tans, and even gives each of them a present (which is just a picture of a crudely drawn christmas tree, it is known that she drew these herself...). The lights and 'decorations' on her dress are tied into her emotions, and their brightness is dependent on how she feels; If she's happy the lights will brighten and twinkle in a jolly manner, if she's unhappy or distressed the lights will dim, it is believed that if the lights ever go completely out, she'll die. She also seems to be of German decsent and has some knowledge of her native langauge.
-Yes, there IS a Christmas Tree virus...when I saw it, I HAD to do it for this holiday season.

The Tsunderekko Oni- Disk-Killer-tan

Disk-Killer-tan- A Tomboy-ish virus who's quick to start a fight but isn't too quick on thinking things through. Disk-Killer has a very rough personality and often when she does things she's often not aware of her own strength and ends up causing alot more damage than normal. However that's not to say she isn't aware of the amount of damage she can cause, in fact some say she acts this way just to see how much damage she can cause. She is an Oni and is often feared by the OS's because of this, they have a good right to be, for she's pretty nasty in her own right. She and (c)Brain are bitter rivals (gives credit to the notion; Brains vs Brawn) and will always disagree with her strategies (even if they're well thought out and have a 100% chance of succeeding) claiming that her own might can outclass Brain-sama's plans. Disk-Killer has few friends, many try to stay away from her because of her rough tendencies, but in reality it's just a cry for attention and friendship. She has a crush on Cerberus-kun, and will often assist him in gaurding the gateway to the Viru-tan Area. Cerberus-kun seems to be aware of these feelings and occasionally returns them. There have been attempts to make Disk-Killer a General, but she always refused this may be because Brain-sama is a General and if Disk-Killer became one, she'd technically be outranked by Brain-sama, something she absolutely can't stand for.

The FCL pic is gonna be tommorrow...I be dead tired from this day (trust after loads of Christmas parties you'd be too X_x; )

d00d, have I awesome stuff in store for you!  ^___^
Please check back shortly on Aurora's Zerosanity Christmas special, as there's gonna be something you'll L-O-V-E very shortly.  ^.^

But damn... just wish you had posted Christmas Tree-tan just a day earlier.... she would've been picture perfect for the role...... ;_________;

Or maybe it's not too late?  (does quick team huddle)

*reads description*

Can't tell you how thrilled I am to see more virus-tans from you.  Where as before this place seemed like it was missing something... now I can safely say we're whole again.  ^____^

From her description, though, she sounds enticingly mysterious,... almost like the virus version of a ghost from a Japanese horror story (not necessarily shocking-scary, but chilling and creepy and surrounded by brain-teasing mysteries). Who'd a thunk it from such a cute Acme-like girl who dresses herself in a Christmas Tree.  ^____^

*waits lecherously for needles to fall off*

QuoteThe Tsunderekko Oni- Disk-Killer-tan

I was wondering when we'd have a real muscle-girl character (Cerberus-chan doesn't technically count) to serve as counterpoint to the likes of those masculine behemoths Cerberus-kun and XP Pro-kun.  ^^

Nothin much to say here, other than that she looks and sounds like a "solid" character.  (pun intended) ^^
In the world I envision for the OS-tans, I've always figured that the virus-tans are viewed as a kind of "Barbarian" horde -- often mingling peacefully with the average citizenry, but always preferred to be kept as far into the fringes as possible.  So in more than one way, Disk Killer-tan's appearance fit the role perfectly.  ^^

Meanwhile...a new Virus-kun appears...

The Ego Dynamite- A-Bomb-kun

A-Bomb-kun- A-Bomb-tan's brother, and egoist with a superiority complex. Cocky, sarcastic and extremely egocentric, A-Bomb-kun maybe the biggest jerk of all the viruses (>_>), but he seems to be alot nicer when his sister is around, some go so far as to say he's a completely different virus when she's in his company. His jacket is multi-purporse and holds many pockets and compartments, useful for storing many items of destruction and chaos. A-Bomb-kun likes to be in control of things, and simply won't put up with anyone telling what to do and how to do it. He's had many adventures into Megalomania in the past many of which involved trying to overthrow the Windows, Mac and even Linux families in a quest for power, in some cases causing a substantial amount of damage, but these attacks were generally unsuccessful. There was even a time where he was planning to take on the Mainframe Guild, and dethrone them from their title as 'Goddesses' thus making him (and I quote) 'One Badass God that's Da Bomb'. Fortunetly, with the help of Viru-sama and Cerberus-tan they were able to turn him away from that obvious suicide mission. He has a habit of saying 'Da Bomb' when he thinks something is of great value or signifigance. It is unknown if he's of General rank, but judging by his attitude, and his more than obvious superiority complex, it is doubtable that he is.

-Yeah...he's a Grade A jerk I know...but for some reason I think it fit for him

Oh right,  sorry,.... ^^'
Krita is a free and open source raster graphics editor that was started fairly recently, but has gained tremendous ground in terms of functionality.  It's still primitive compared to GIMP in some areas, but more advanced in others (particularly when it comes to color management).  It also uses a default single window interface rather than a multi-window one, making it easier for Photoshop migrants to get used to.

Bundled with the KOffice suite, it's currently available only for Linux/BSD, but can probably be used in Mac and Windows after KDE4 (and consequently KOffice2) succeeds in becoming universal desktop environment.

Quoteaka, "stopped him from being squashed like gum under a shoe". ^^;

Indeed, lil A-bomb-kun just doesn't know his place in the OS-world does he ^^;

QuoteNice work! I'm always impressed by your inworking of backstories and such. I don't know a lot about viruses (never interested me much, honestly), but I can tell you take your time to do research, and it shows.

Ah, thanks alot Bella-san, It's always great (but not always essential) to input a bit history to these sorta characters, that way it'll give you a better view of who the character in question truly is.

QuoteDisk-Killer I wouldn't want to meet, not in a million years. She looks like a complete savage

Yeah and she is >.>;

QuoteFCL and Abra-tan...LOL! FCL-chan hiding behind her sleeve is adorable, and Abra-tan's expession is priceless!

Once again thanks ^^ to be honest both of their expressions were a completely random choice

QuoteChristmas Tree Virus: I had a Reboot fancharacter idea involving the Christmas Tree virus, back in '98. Nothing ever came of her, though. I'm glad to see that she's one of your new virus-tans!

Hm I remember Reboot a long while ago, one of m favorite shows when I was growin up. And thanks as well ^^

QuoteDisk-Killer: Awesome! She looks great!

Yosh I think so too ^^

QuoteFCL-tan: Yaaaaaaaay! ^____^ Someone who won't eat FCL-tan's hat! This amuses me very much!

Indeed, though in Abra-chans case if she were to do that it'll be like cannabilism, somethin she just not set to do ^^

QuoteA-Bomb-kun: I don't want to meet A-Bomb-kun...but good job.

lol seems alot people aen't fond of how A-Bomb-kun does business, maybe Viru-sama and Cerberus-chan shouldn't have stopped him...

Also thanks glad fo the compliment as well

FYI, I was wondering if this could be a potential request idea for a virus-tan.

Actually,... may not really qualify as a virus and the article is likely outdated by now.  But if the concept holds true it could potentially make for a very LARGE and very POWERFUL virus-tan that could probably match even a Mainframe-tan:

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/notag/worlds-biggest-supercomputer-is-a-virus-298029.php

Course, she'd probably be as easy to control as a Nausicaän God Warrior (meaning "not really"), and hence not particularly desirable  to employ by the traditional-minded Viru-sama.  On the other hand, it wouldn't be beneath the whims of a  fiendish little OS-kun to use her to launch a coup or engage in some megalomaniac scheme.  ^^;

Yo Alfamille-san, welcome back finally (the invitation paid off?).  ^___^

I guess tha pairing could work,... although there are lots of other OS-tans with animal hats that could probably fit the bill too.  ^^

(thinks Spida-tan with her spider hat, or FreeDOS-tan with her whale hat)

I've only thought to stick her with Red Hat-tan since FCL is a sub-distro of RHL.

Talk about OS-tans with hats! Let's have a fashion show!

Okay, though I must admit, I'm not really the Valentine's Day type of guy (Too lovey dovey...) but I got this for ya'll

1st off a rendation of Siya's Loveletter, using on of Loveletter's aliases as building blocks I give you, Lovebug-tan.

...And yes...LoveBug has a stinger O,o

I've also found, another Virus-tan that is perfect for this holiday but I'mma need to draw her 1st, stay tuned...

Yosh, thanx thar Bella-san

Yep those be her wings, originally I was goin go for a 'Wriggle Nightbug' look for her wings, but scrapped the idea for some reason and went with the wings you see before you.

And yeah there are quite a few Viruses who like messing with the (as Laharl would say) 'Love-Freaks', ironically Lovebug/Loveletter was gonna have anteenea similar to his...but they didn't stick right for some reason...wonder why...

Yeah in a technical sense they are infact the same virus, I just went by Loveletters alias name 'Lovebug' as 'building blocks' to design this girl, however her mail-esque tactics remain the same (right down to the mail bag and 'letters')

Also as promised another 'love themed' virus tan (or rather worm-tan)

Amore's Arrow-Valentine-tan

A worm-tan who seems to be stuck on St.Valentine's Day. poetic and loving in all sorts of ways. Valentine pilots the skies in search of those who show feelings for one another, if she manages to spy a potential couple she will then deliver a 'Love Letter' to the potential couple, by firing an arrow that has said letter attached to it, once opened it is said that a beautiful poem is written within the envelope, however being she's a worm-tan opening these envelopes is usually not the best of ideas (despite the chance of reading a poem of unparalelled beauty). However she see's no harm in what she does and continues on her 'duty' of spreading love through out the OS world. As stated above she is actually quite the poetic worm-tan and often talks in poetry form always having a rhyme with one word after the other, Unlike Christmas Tree-tan she doesn't disappear when Valentine's Day is over, instead she continues on her tireless job of spreading kindness and love throughout the world. She is a slight 'fan-girl' and absolutely adores 'shipping'. Her appearcne is similar to Flonne's for obvious reasons, while her tactics of bringing couples together are a referance to Cupid.

But you know what I'm sayin'... one girl's blond, the other has pink hair.  So even if they're the same virus in RL, it's probably easier to consider them as two separate virus-tans.  Very easy to do, considering how viruses fork off to countless variants on their own.  ^___^

Post by: Gussy Keniji on July 04, 2008, 01:22:27 am
Okay so it's not really ART per se, but this is to at least say I'm making another come back. I've done a bit of writing and I have compiled a bit of a database on the subject. (Mind you these are just my THEORIES and shouldn't be taken as canon in anyway, if you all wish for them to be made solid facts then I shall deem it so)

-Concept of Malware-tans-

Virus-tan/kun- A Virus-tan/kun is the polar opposite of an OS-tan/kun, simply because they cause harm to OSes. Viruses are the oldest known Malware-tans in exsistance being the 1st -tan to cause inital harm to OSes. Viruses are able to directly alter OS-tans in many ways causing them some general problems and misfortunes. However, most Viruses weren't really that dangerous and were simply 'pranksters' who would just be around to cause an annoyance to the OS they 'infected', during their early days, Viruses would constantly pester DOS-tans. There are many types of viruses in the OS-tan universe, each with their own way of causing trouble and mayhem. However, though viruses aren't as mainstream as Worms are, they are still out there today, some are increasingly more dangerous than their predacessors are and some are actually capable of bypassing (and sometimes even completely destroying) the protective effects of Anti-viral tans/kuns. These virus-tans/kuns are often kept under top survalliance from the Anti-Viral tans.

Worm-tan/kun- A Worm-tan/kun is the 2nd class of malware to be discovered. Worm-tans are often confused with Virus-tans for the simple reason they are alot alike (at least to those who only see them as malicious...which they are of course). However, Worm-tans differ from Viruses simple because they rarely cause harm to the systems they infect, being that (unlike viruses) they do not usually ALTER the OS-tan they infect. Worm-tans are masters of Replication (making clones) and if allowed to replicate and run wild, then one can be faced with a series of problems on their hands. There have been numerous accounts in the past of Worm-tans causing massive amounts of chaos just by simply overflowing a system with their clones. There is 2nd sub-class of Worms that specializes in 'mailing attacks' called a Mass Mailer. Mass Mailers use the replicant skill just like their counterparts but use them in the fashion of letters that are infused with malicious coding. When opened the malicious code then materializes a clone of the Worm that is thenbinded to the OS-tan who opened the letter, pestering them to send more mail to others. It is known that more than one Worm-tan clone can be materialized from a letter. Ironically, Mass Mailers are in charge of the postal system in the Viru-tan area, and actually do a fairly decent job. The most dangerous Worm-tan was said to have been Melissa-tan. There have been rumors of Worm-tans who can infect OS-tans and cause them to turn into 'Zombies'

Trojan-tan/kun- A Trojan-tan/kun is the 3rd and final class of malware to be discovered. They appear to be a secretive group of -tans who only make themselves known when it comes to theivery and conning OS-tans. Trojan-tans are accomplished in estabilishing 'Back Doors' which allow Malware-tans to infiltrate OS-tan areas alot easier or generally, transporting large amounts of malware-tans to a designated area. However, Trojan-tans aren't skilled in Replication, and cannot utulize the skill to their advantage. Trojan-tans are actually not as malicious as one may precieve, some can be used as allies with OS-tans. So far no Trojan-tans have appeared in the open, but one can assume they are working in the shadows...

Infection- All Malware-tans/kuns are capable of 'Infecting' an OS. This unique ability is possible by the use of a type of matter that the Malware houses in their body. This matter co-exists with their other organs and fluids (kinda like 'Chakra from Naruto) and can be released on the users whim. Each malware has his or her own method of 'Infection' each one more unique (and dangerous) than the other. Some result in a mild corporal nusiance, such as a rash or a headache, while some can cause the victim to fall gravely ill, however the Infection is usually able to be cleared up by the help of Anti-viral-tans/kuns (It is believed that after the infection is cured, the assaliant malware will have a harder time infecting the OS that recieved treatment) and most aren't neccisarly that life-threatening, like in the cases of Worm-tans who simply infect an OS just to spread their influence.

Replication- Replication is an ability housed by all malware (excluding Trojans). It simply allows the user to make copies of his or herself and said copies do the originals bidding. Though the Copies themselves are substantianly weaker than the original and will disappear if they are defeated. Acme-tan is a frequent user of this skill, and is said to be the master at it as well, many other viruses are also accomplished in this skill. Worm-tans however are the most prolific users of this ability, and use it for just about anything.

Variant- A 'Variant' is a relative, sibling or (in some cases) offspring of a malware-tan/kun. Variants are usually similar to the original descendent, but has at least 1 factor that sets them widely apart from the original (be this a difference in their appearance, abilities, weakness or strength). Most malware have at least 1 Variant somewhere in the world waiting to be discovered (which is why there's so many to begin with). Worm-tans seem to have the most Variants out of all the malware-tans.

Isolatation- The equivalent of being 'exiled' or banished from OS-tan society. When Viruses were proving to be a nusicance the OS-tans resorted to 'Isolating' them from their community to a vast and remote area far away from their society. Inadvertaedly, this would only result in the birth of the Viru-tan Area.

Nix malware- Simply put, a benevolent malware-tan that doesn't seek to cause trouble. There are few Nix malware out to this day but most of the earlier types could be classed as such. being they were all simple pranksters and some didn't even cause that much damage. The most famous Nix malware is Bliss-tan who is also the 1st malware-tan able to co-exist with OS-tans.

Viru-tan Area/Land of Malware- An area where many OS-tans dare not venture into, for this is where Malware rule. Though, many tell stories of how it's an ominous land where all of the viruses are ruled by 1 unsurmountable and terribly ruthless queen virus. This however is a grave misconception (though half of this proves to be true, for the viruses do in fact follow a queen if, but she's not ruthless...powerful, yes. but ruthless, no) most viruses here are not capable of causing any real damage to OS-tan society being most who live here are early viruses that infected DOS-tans and are particularlly bad at infecting Windows or Mac (Lunix/Unix is an exception, for there are early viruses who are able to infect even the most powerful Unix-tan, but the only one known is Bliss-tan, and she doesn't live with viruses nor is she malicious).

The Land of Malware is located far from the residences of the OS-tans being this is originally where the early Virus-tans, who were found in the open, were sent to be 'Isolated' (the equivalent of being exiled). Viru-tan would later venture to this land and would begin rebuilding it into a community and refuge for all malware-tan to reside. The entrance to the area is relentlessly gaurded by Cerberus-kun (Cerberus-tans big brother) as a means to keep out those who wish to cause trouble for the virus-tans, and is instructed to only let in OS-tans who wish to discuss business, or in the cases of Viru-sama and her schemes, let legions of Viruses loose to cause mayhem for OSes.

Beyond the gate is a large suburban area where all the Virus-tans live, usually residing in seperate houses or apartment complexes. Because Malware are generally more numerous than OSes, this area is considered the largest and is constantly expanding. In the center of this city, is Viru-sama's Mansion where the virus queen herself takes up residence, her followers are welcome to see her whenever they wish, this way her followers are able to come to her any time there's a problem or just so they can have a friendly chat. The mansion houses not only Viru-sama but her 'Generals' and some of her other more closer subjects as well.

On the edge of the Land of Malware lies the ominous and eternally miserable, Castle de Horror. This is where the lone vampire, Horror-kun, lives. It is believed that the castle, as well as Horror kun, have been in the Land of Malware way longer than most of the viruses have, the castle itself is on top of a steep cliff that overlooks the Windows House in the distance. Beyond this is, as said above, the home where the Windows family lives. Despite being the most powerful, they actually live the closest to the viruses.

Take note that not all viruses live in the Land of Malware, a few that don't, are Bliss-tan, who lives with Lunix-tans due to her less malicious nature, and Christmas Tree-tan in her case no one knows WHERE she lives, for no one has ever been able to find her exact location after christmas...

-End Database-

What else do you plan to do Gus-san?
-Draw moar! :V okay seriously

Other projects to come

A little more, this time expanding on different terms that can be used. Also adding new classes of malware...am I expanding to much in this field? I feel like I am for some reason...anyways...

-Concept of Malware-tans (Side 2)-

Black Hat- A term to describe a hacker who aids Virus-tans in causing trouble for OS-tans. Black hats usually require the consent of Viru-sama before they are able to initate any attacks, but in recent years this policy has been all but abandoned. Black Hats are rarely seen in physical appearance and simply send their thoughts and ideas via mail to Viru-sama, but this isn't saying that they are not capable of public appearances...

Attack Tree- A chart of sorts showing the movements of the Virus-tans. Usually used by Anti-Virus-tans to track a virus by the means of 'Fault tree anaylsis' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fault_tree_analysis). These diagrams can be obtained via Black Hats or stealthy malware-tans and can then be used as a way to predict what the opposition is planning to do next.

In The Wild- A phrase used to describe a malware-tan that is still out in the open and hasn't been isolated as of yet. Viruses who live in the VtA can still be considered 'In the Wild' if they can not be readily subdued by Anti-Virus tans when and if they appear before OS-tans.

Adware-tans/kuns- a subclass of malware that are specialized in commercial advertising. Though they are not really evil at heart they simply do not realize when to stop advertising. Adware-tans/kuns work extremely well with Spyware-tans/kuns.

Spyware tans/kuns- another subclass of malware, specialized in the art of stealth and espionage. It is believed that most Spyware-tans were in close following with Whale-tan when she went by the alias 'Mama Ningyo', the fact that most of them know of Whale-tans exploits and plans before the groups disappearance adds credit to this theory. Spyware are accomplished at secretly monitoring OS-tans and are (as one may've guessed) used for spy missions.

-End Database-

QuoteAlso, I'd like to see a description of Chernobyl-tan, just to see what kind of stuff can actually happen with someone like that around...

Yo Gus-san!  Long time no see around these parts.  :P

I'm liking the Tome of Knowledge you're writing up here -- reminds me a lot of when I tried to deploy my OS-tan Annex.  Ah, the memories.  :D

Thank you though for being so thorough, and for taking into account all the elements we've discussed earlier in your thread -- I'm especially happy that you still want to keep Viru-sama such a central figure, especially since we really don't have much of an obligation (aside from courtesy) to do so.  :)

Two things I'm particularly interested in:

1)  The rise of Super Malware, such as Storm, which I've always said could be manifested as giants (such as the Mainframe-tans), but ones that have essentially lost coherent physical forms, and any semblance of self-control.  Unable to be controlled by anyone (even by Viru-sama herself), they wonder about growing ever larger and more unpredictable.  Those brave enough to even recognize their existence either still struggle to find a way to stop them, or simply pray day-and-night that they never take an aggressive action.

2)  I imagine that the struggle between Virus and Anti-Virus forces is often depicted in the OS-tan world as a classic feel-good fight between Good and Evil.  The reality, though, is likely far messier -- anyone willing to look deeper into this would likely encounter all sorts of mind-boggling realizations.  Everything from some malware-tans fighting for just causes, to some Anti-Virus-tans cooperating with their presumed enemies [under the table of course] to further profits.

-Baseball Anti-Hero

Slugger-tan- A virus tan with a love for the sport of baseball. Her red and blue cap she wears is a referance to Ness from the SNES game Earthbound (Mother 2), her green hoodie and golden bat are coined from 'Lil Slugger' of Paranoia Agent. Slugger has a fun loving and carefree personality, often wanting to have a nice game of baseball rather than work. And it is because of her dedication to that particular sport that has shaped her into an astounding player that seemingly no one has yet to best, in fact it is said that Slugger is able to pitch a ball faster than the eye can see, and that she once finished a game by hitting home runs each time she was up to bat. This prowess has earned her the title as a Baseball Master and many, who are particularly bad at the game, come to her for training. If you need advice on how to hit a ball outta the park go pay her a visit 9 times out of 10 you'll be hitting home runs in no time. Though, because of the fact that she hasn't lost a game, she can be a bit...overconfident and basically a sore WINNER at best, which is why many shun playing a game with her. Slugger's near obsession with baseball has even effected the way she functions as a virus, being the worst damage she can do is break someone's window with baseballs. Though she has demonstrated an ability that allows her to tap into the 'inner focus' of a baseball bat, thus allowing her to use it as a more effective battle weapon. Her favorite bat is named 'The Shonen Batto' which is actually the 1st ever baseball bat she recieved. Slugger is the only known friend of Disk Killer-tan, in which the 2 of them started out as rivals but eventually grew to be friends, Slugger likes teasing Disk Killer when she's around Cerberus (being she has a crush on him). Slugger is an avid collector of baseball bats and claims that the 'Louiseville Slugger' is a legendary weapon of unparalelled power and destruction. Because of this assumption she has desperately tried to get her hands on it ever since she heard of it's existance. Whether this baseball bat is actually of legendary power isn't really known.

-Originally I was gonna have her have pink-ish hair which would make her look sorta similar to Haruko of FLCL...shoulda stuck with that...

Actually, you already have two pink-haired virus-tans, but I don't recall seeing any one of them with gray hair.  I'd compromise,... keep the hair as is, but make the eyes pink.  The eyes as they are now just kinda blend in with the rest of her.  ^^'

Thanks to Smash Brothers Brawl, I know what the Mother series is now -- so yeah, that's a neat touch, as is the Paranoia Agent reference (which I still have to finish watching, now that you reminded me...).

Can't really say much else -- just glad to have another fine addition to the virus-tan roster.  -v-

Slugger-tan the baseball master is a cool character with some MAD SKILLS!! Good choice with the Ness and Lil' Slugger references! And she's friends with Disk Killer-tan?! Whoa... o_o

Alritey, eyes have been fix'd. I was aiming to have them a kind of golden color, I think next time I'll tone the yellow down a bit so it won't blend with the body (so to speak).

Same here though I knew of Mother 3, I didn't know the details of it until I played Brawl, ironically Lucas became my main for playing the game. And yeah I recommend you finish watchin teh PA, the ending is trippy, yo!

Thanks, Ness and Lil Slugger were a given choice as a referance, infact when I first saw the Virus' entry in a database they were the 2 things that came to my mind the quickest.

Thanx, I feel good that I left the hair black.

And now onto drawing my next drawing(s)! Gussy AWAY!!
