In any event, you can try any of hte Japanese TTS engines from NeoSpeech, which have leading edge Japanese voices (male and female). Go here for more info:

Unfortunately they're not free nor are they cross-platform, and at the moment I can't research any other paid alternatives.
Open Source alternatives are in the works for Japanese voices, but still not there yet (at least not outside Japan, I'm sure).
