Title: Songs to listen when seeing OS-TANS
Post by: Raffaele the Amigan on March 23, 2007, 09:33:20 AM
I was wondering what is the best music, or the best songs to listen when you are browsing collections of OS-TANS...

for example on Windows 95 install disk there are two music videos:

The Weezer's "Buddy Holly" and Edie Brickell's "Good Times".

(http://www.weezer.no/graphics/newspics/album_blue.jpg) (http://www.onlineseats.com/upload/concerts/1026_con_eb2.gif)

"Buddy Holly" video is made of beautiful scenes taken from "Happy Days" TV serial...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows95

In the very thruth the original song to be listen with Windows 95 it is the Start-Up sound by Brian Eno...

...But sure it is only a startup sound and not an entire song, and it is now known as "Microsoft Sound".

Amiga has a long story of motherboards named from "The B52's" songs, starting from 1985.

Amiga 500 is codenamed "Rock Lobster"

Amiga 600 is "Junebug"

Amiga 1200 is "Channel Z"

A590 "Party Mix", the front LED's called "Fred and Wilma"

You can find whole story here:

http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/b52board.html

This is because the man who designed Amiga 500 engineer George Robbins was a big B52's fan.

George unfortunately he passed away in 2002.

Here is his memorial site:

Amiga CD32 Console/Computer was designed by another person and has been codenamed "Spellbound" on his motherboard.

"Spellbound" is a song by "Siouxsie and the Banshees", an English band formed in 1976.

Pegasos Motherboard which runs MorphOS has received as gift a Start-Up/Boot Open jingle made by musician Susumu Hirasawa who was the artist who created the songs for "Berserk" the anime serial, and cinema movie "Millennium Actress" anime.

This is due to the fact that Mr. Hirasawa is a great Amiga fan.

Now just take an internet radio site, and listen all these songs.

If you found more from other OS, please post about it here...

The Windows Vista "melody" has been "composed" by Robert Fripp, former member of "King Crimson" music group...

http://channel9.msdn.com/showpost.aspx?postid=287615

Quote
This single session resulted in over six hours of multi-channel raw tracks including hundreds of melodies, textures, soundscapes, and orchestrations.  After this session, it took another three months of orchestration, iteration, remixing and refinement to select the final four seconds that became the final Windows Vista startup sound:  a ââ,¬Å"glassyââ,¬Â Fripp melody, a harmony by Steve Ball, and a ââ,¬Å"Win-dows Vis-taââ,¬Â rhythm contributed by composer, Tucker Martine.  This all on top of a brief Fripp Soundscape that fades out as the user lands on the Windows Vista log-on screen.   The flowing Soundscape ââ,¬Ëœtexturesââ,¬â,,¢ from the session also inspired the sonic  palette that was used for the default Windows Vista sound scheme.

Don't be astonished... He is 60 years old at this very moment...

Here is a photo of him when he was young amongst with other King Crimson members, on the front cover of "Red" LP:

Now you all could add the King Crimson'songs to your favourite playlist when browsing Vista-TAN images... :D

For Windows 95, I think that "Start Me Up" would be better:

QuoteWindows 95 was released with a great fanfare, including a commercial featuring the Rolling Stones song "Start Me Up" (a reference to the Start button)[2]. It was widely reported that Microsoft paid the Rolling Stones between $8 and $14 million for the use of the song (from the 1981 album Tattoo You) in the '95 advertising campaign. According to sources at Microsoft, however, this was just a rumor spread by the Stones to increase their market value, and Microsoft actually paid a fraction of that amount.

I just intended to use something related with music and songs that it is EMBEDDED or hidden, or given as gift in the OS itself or into the hardware..

"Start Me Up" it is a song from an external TV commercial and not included into the OS or in the install CDs, neither into any original X86 hardware...  ;014

This thread is quite interesting. Do you know anything about XP's sounds?
