In colossal cave you need to kill a dragon with your bare hands.

A lot of people are able to do that while their arms are still intact I kid you not.

But to back on topic: why is it than final bosses in several games are not that hard than bosses in side-quest which you don't need to complete?
Title: Did you know...
Post by: Xyanide on February 28, 2007, 06:49:58 AM
not confusing just slow compared to the alphabet

Because the sidequests are less important than actually beating the game, so therefor side-quests are worth playing if they're harder.

And he wants you to help him find the pieces to his ship so he can return to his home planet.

I dunno. from what little I saw of it on CHEAT! (G4 TV has a use after all... outside of Laughing at fallicies in the X-Play reviews [the BeatMANIA one standing out*]), you can't do anything good.

* according to X-Play, Guitar Hero did the same thing BeatMANIA did but better. all the people that are bemani fans know this is BS, since Konami's Guitar game, Guitar Freaks, which was made well before Guitar Hero, actually has the "keysound" thing down pat, whereas all GH does is mute the guitar track if you miss.

and for the trivia database: it IS possible to get a female wrestler in WWE SmackDOWN Vs. RAW 2006 into a hell-in-a-cell match... the glitch that allows this was fixed for the 2007 version, though. basically, set up a title match, special referee, with two players and the Special Referee can be any wrestler.

There are laws in Germany against pretty much any Nazi pariphenalia, the laws are mostly used to keep people from coming into Germany and starting trouble. An example of someone starting touble would be, at a sporting event Englishman Bob brings a swashtica and starts taking jabs at all German people. The Germans aperently have the mentality, "What's past is past, don't bring it back up as an insult."

lesson learned from that: don't waste handgun/rocketlauncher/tommygun ammo near giant fish fight. (also, you have to be standing ON the dock, or else it doesn't occur. ARMAX will NOT save your ass, as I've been experimenting with some stuff using the ARMAX)

speaking of RE... in OutBreak File#2, the only stage that lacks an instant kill is Underbelly.

Wild Things: both bosses have IK's (Titan has TWO [one removal!])

Underbelly: NONE! I'VE ACTUALLY LOOKED AND TRIED TO FIND AN IK!

Flashback: Axeman has an IK. granted, it's possible to avoid Axeman altogether (not even see him ONCE), but that's a really tedious route.

Desperate times: zombie removals from certain hallway windows (IK)

End of the Road: Tyrant (normal and -C forms, possibly R form as well) has an IK, Nyx has an attack that can be treated like an IK if soloing (requires a partner to stop).

It is always virtually impossible to be worse than two things, although they have been known to vary through the years.
But if the first is Uncyclopedia, then the second must DEFINITELY be Excel Saga. 'Cuz...I mean...excel saga....is just...BAD. STUPID. AND COMPLETELY NOT-SAFE-FOR-THE-SANE-PARTS-OF-MANKIND. Or anyone else, for that matter; it's just that the non-sane parts of mankind don't care that much.

Lets not forget the ever tasty Menchi. Sure the whole series may seem like a bad acid trip but thats its best feature. It knows that its borderline retarded and imbraces it. They break the 4rth wall god knows how many times. Not likeing Excel Saga for being whaky and dumb is like trying to look at Monty Python and the Holy Grail like its a documentary. my guess? sell internets back to owner.

getting back to the original point of this thread... IIDX Happy Sky CS is the only IIDX so far that allows you to see the EX stage interface outside of getting an EX stage. simply get ONE EX stage (with Scream Squad selectable) and then hold Start+Select as you enter the Free Mode Song Select screen.

File this under WTF:

in House of the Dead 2, the Emprorer will ALWAYS do his "boss shuffle" attack at least once (this is where he summons a likeness of one of the first four bosses, and you have to counter the attack. the bosses and attacks are Judgement [attempts to headbutt you], Hydrophant [trident vault to drop on you], Tower [single snake, tries to bite you], and Strength [tries to use his chainsaw on you]). it IS possible (not without cheating, though) to put Emporer's health into the negative before he uses that attack. if this happens, he uses ONE boss attack, then immediately dies.

...I wanted to scream WTF when I saw that.

QuoteAlcohol is bad for you!

Always one for discussion, and since this is the did you know thread...

Did you know an occasional glass of wine (i forget red or white) actually is good for your heart and helps clean out your arteries?

Too many people buy into the media hype about how cirtain things are "bad"  Alcohol is one, people that dont drink talk like its the devil.  Its just fine if you drink in MODERATION.  Same with nicotine, it actually has many good medical aplications, but no one perscribes it because of the stigma around it.  same with guns. Sport or target shooting is fun and safe if your responible, and guns in a trained individuals hands could save lives (if viginia tech had passed the law to allow people to carry their weapons on campus, that wack job wouldnt have made it past one class room before someone stopped him, so it turned out not having guns was more unsafe...)
Title: Did you know...
Post by: Tsubashi on May 10, 2007, 11:13:43 PM
Did you know there are alternatives?

The chemicals classified as "Polyphenol antioxidants" are typically what researchers point to as the beneficial content of red wine (Though more resent studies suggest that Polyphenol antioxidants does exist within the pulp of grapes, and therefore ought to exits in white wine also)

Polyphenol antioxidants, however, exist in most legumes and vegetables, along with some fruits. Dark chocolate also contains these beneficial chemicals.

I am not saying that persons drinking wine/alcohol are, by default, bad. However, I cannot condone the consumption of such materials as have caused or aided many of the perverse and wicked things in the world today. Captain-san is right, there ought to be moderation in all things. Abstinence, however, is also a feasible solution. Alcohol does not aid the beneficial properties of the wine. Drinking unfermented grape juice will have the same effect.

As for nicotine and guns, Captain-san is spot on. Nicotine should only be used for medical purposes. Unfortunately, it would too often be abused. Guns, however, are made to kill, no matter which way you look at it. Hopefully, people will learn to abstain from killing humans....
It depletes the food supply! ^__^

Hmmmm i think i should have been more specific first things first

1.Actually yes the ds does have a demo download system http://www.nintendo.com/dsdownloadstation/
2.It's also up on some rom sites*not gonna post them for obvious reasons*
3.THE Demo is GREAT!111!one11! the graphics is top notch for the ds standards. though its short its fun slashing monsters with the stylus, even though its the same area all over again the only bad part is its in japanese. im definently importing it when it comes out.

Hmmm It seems the full japanese version is leaked 2 days earlier than the release date  *Must resist urge to download due to it being japanese*

Edit: Just notice that all the above is a did you know so did you know that means im on topic :D.

Don't worry though i don't pirate much unless i really want the game now. i ordered Osu tattake ouendan 2 just for the special stylus Im such a dork XD *although i do admit to downloading it firts XD* however i am not completely againts piracy, since its almost impossible to find a legal game copy in some countrys mine included and if they are they are mostly overpriced *RM600 for C&C 3 FTW*, here all the DS games i can find are Nintendogs Golden Eye and Pac man and those little DS catridges your talking about *not gonna say there names* here are sold in incredible amounts here.

Although i dont understand why people pirate computer games since they dont have online and thats the best part, i cant imagine having fun with dawn of war with only playing singleplayer.

It's a thorny issue. Wikipedia defines perversion as:

"A term and concept describing those types of human behavior that are perceived to be a deviation from what is considered to be orthodox or normal"

Considering that I like San Pellegrino more than Perrier, Sprite more than Sierra Mist, Onkyo more than Sony, Japan more than China, and Asian women more than Hispanic women, I suppose I'm a pervert by those measures.

If you apply that logic to anime, it makes more sense. If you take a commonly accepted fact, like most men love women with bigger breasts more, then you can separate people based on that fact. If we say that all orthodox men like large breasts, then Suguru Misato, who is often seen as a pervert, is not a pervert, because he shares a common belief. Thus, the idea that someone is a pervert just because of a certain sexual preference is wrong. Maybe I should lay off the Sprite for a few months...
Title: Did you know...
Post by: Tsubashi on July 02, 2007, 11:47:19 PM
Well, as long as we are basing Wikipe-tan as authority, you forgot to include this:
Quote from: "Wikipe-tan"In the present day, the word is often presumed to mean sexual, rather than religious or other, perversion.

Also, from Wiktionary:

Quote from: "Wiktitionary"To turn from truth, rectitude, or propriety; to divert from a right use, end, or way; to lead astray; to corrupt

Thus, by reviewing your example armed with further knowledge, we may discover that though Suguru-san's preference of large breasts may not qualify him for the term 'pervert,' his rather repulsive habit of viewing said breasts nude is not the functional purpose for such, thus he is perverted. Also, if I may establish the postulate that sex outside of marriage is wrong, Suguru-san's hasty conclusions of said actions also qualify him.

Secondly, your example of self is, in my humble opinion, quite useless. None of the items you mentioned are societally decided, either for or against. Disregarding extremists, there is no person who will think significantly less of you because you prefer Sprite over Sierra Mist. Society, for the most part anyway, still regards chastity and virtue as 'good' and desirable qualities. Therefore, any action or item which corrupts these is, by definition, perverted.

In conclusion, it is not the sexual preference which makes one perverted, it is the misuse of said preference. ^__^

Heh, I bought the drink for a camping trip, with a few other items. I drank the drink with no adverse side effects. Unfortunately the same could not be said for the other item I bought, a can of sardines. I never tried them before and wondered what they would taste like. Really fishy, not bad, just REALLY fishy. What was bad was the aftermath. I am allergic to shellfish, or actually the Iodine found in mass quantities in shellfish. I can only guess that the sardines A: being a saltwater fish had a decent Iodine content, or B: was processed on equipment that also handles shellfish. Allergic reactions are not fun... XP

Did you know that the advanced tazer has the best service record of any less then leathal force meathod used by todays police forces. and exerp from the advanced tazers manual:

Injury rate for use  suspect injured/officer injured or effected

Flashlight: 80% / 16%
Batton: 78% / 20%
Punch: 78% / 36%
Chemical Spray: 5% / 29%

however the suspect and officer injury rating for the advanced tazer is 0% / 0%

Compaired to other force meathods where police are likely to be harmed in the arrest and will likely cause harm to the suspect, the advanced tazer allows police to effect compliance with no lasting side effects.  Once deployed its electrical current simulates the electrical impuleses of the brain disrupting them and compleatly imobilizing the target.  the effects wear off the moment the tazer stops firing.  No lasting damage.

However keep in mine there is always the possibility of danger, such as a faulty pace maker (which are designed to wistand difibulators) or poor aim putting one of the probes in an eye.
Title: Did you know...
Post by: NekOSaka on October 11, 2007, 07:38:55 AM
Thats exactly why tazers are illegal in New York. A cop tazered a man with a faulty pace maker and stopped it. And NY loves to ban random things. Like throwing knifes. We can buy a firearm capable of sending hundreds of sering hot pieces of copper into someone, but a single piece of steal for throwing? Nope, thats dangerous.

Hey Captain, seeing as how Tazers are your forte, would you be able to rattle off the specs of this for me. From what I could gather its like a Tazer claymore-esc antipersonnel device. Do you know anything about it?

Never mind, I found a site about it. Here is the link , fun stuff.

without looking i can tell those are the same air cartrages used by the advanced tazer.. i couldnt see using something likt that tho.. when does it know to shock them again?  does it fire each cartraige, or just one where the target is? how does it aim for proper tazer targets?  its like a claymore that fires three bullets.    humm i donno about that one -_-

Added after 2 minutes:

tho, looking at the link, it is made by the same people, tazer international. its the EXACT same thing but in computerized claymore mode.  If im in a military environs, ill use an actual claymore thank you very much

I think they would be more likely to use this at United Nations, or American Embassy's, You know, better to have a guy having been zapped and dragged away then ripped to pulp with ball bearings and soaked up with a sponge if its going to be on the news.

Post by: CaptBrenden on November 28, 2007, 10:48:34 AM
at embassys they have claymores filled with large rubber balls, kinda like the rubber bullets used by  police.  they sting and hurt like you wouldnt belive and they will have a hard time moving in the morning, but thats far more likely to cause the desired effect then three sets of tazer barbs shot out in different directions
Title: Did you know...
Post by: NekOSaka on November 29, 2007, 09:29:01 AM
I heard of those, I think they were actually called Stingmores. And the tazer could be used in an area that you don't want a rubber ball explosion, possibly in a corridor in a building, it's annoying to pick up all those little balls...
Title: Did you know...
Post by: VonDaab on November 29, 2007, 10:05:43 AM
Did you know, that the little bigger claymores are no fun to deploy?

I think it has something to do with the fact that they weight rough 11kilos, are 80cm wide and incredibly hard to grab.

Had fun times to try camouflage it though. heh.

Did you know that 8-bit processors are still playing a very important role in a certain supercomputer?? and that those specific 8-bitters run at 125MHz?? and that there are a thousand and twenty-four of them, governed by a power-pc processing core?

Eight!?
...are you really sure of that...?
That's more than there even is on a damn piano. O_o
I suggest you do your maths (or theoretic music) again, and come back. If you get the same result, now THEN I'm impressed. Eight octaves are like beyond BOTH tone scales. Er.

Well, some of them, but that's mainly a few altos i think. I noticed this when I and my partner were practicing for our duet (it was around january this year) and she was having problems taking the tones right when they came up high - I went falsetto madness and showed her HOWTO: Figaro.

I find myself listening to a lot of alternative rock/piano rock/indie music/older pop and even some jazz lately. Turning around in one smoothmouse-move to kill the guy behind you is better than having to make 3 full sweeps across your mouse mat to see that guy knifing you to death...
