Yea, the reason that is is that around 4, my computer went spaztastic secound time in two weeks  :pissed:  :pissed:

Some of the files got corrupted, and some of them were the windows files...

and right after I had finally re-placed all the important files that were corrupt... :wallbash:  :wallbash:

And it's still not fixed... right now I'm on the family system... going to start backing stuff up soon, so I can re-install XP...

curses...

heheh, I'm a Canadian! w00t! Ontario, Canada's where I live!

No, seriously, ouch... Man, that sucks that your 'puter's been messing up like that lately... Somehow, since I've left from my old spyware infested 95 (poor 95-tan) I've stepped up my security on my WinXp Pro, so I now have triple layered defense as I like to call...

Now, let's all ignore me semi-hi-jacking the thread... and... back to topic! ^_^

lol, Racism is evil.  As far as I know, I'm part Irish, part German, part Filipino, and I dunno what else.

Anyhow, I live in Northern California, where the weather is completely random and anything is possible that is equivalent to being uselessly boring.  I make the best of it by being blasphemously random.  Is Blasphemously a word?  Only time will tell...

 I guess I'm the first one from continental Europe replying this thread. I'm posting from Finland, Northern Europe. I sort of live in two different cities, in Tampere (about 200 kilometres west-northwest from the capital Helsinki) where my own appartment lies and in Vantaa (perhaps 20 kilometres from capital), which is where my parents' house is located in. I normally log into forums from 12pm to 3am, but as in Tampere I'm limited to university computers, I cannot be around too much after midnight during ordinary weekdays. ^^;

Gracious Fuu... all my posts are messy here, I don't know what's gone into me. I hope something makes sense of what I type.

But, in my point of view, it's quite fun for me to have only a small group of OS-tan fan. It's like having a small, private group that you can involve deeply with it.

I live on the border of Cleveland and Lakewood in Ohio, Lakewood side.  Cleveland's literally a block behind me.  But it's my uncle's house I'm living at right now, for school.

In about a month I'll be moving back to my grandma's house in Doylestown, OH (near Akron) for my summer job at the Summit County MetroParks.

My parent's house, and where most of my stuff is still hiding, is in Mechanicsburg, OH.  Which is a small town about a half-hour away from Springfield, OH.

Until we moved in 4th grade, I lived in Barberton, OH (also near Akron).

And I spend a heck of a lot of my time in Columbus, OH, where most of my friends live.

I'm just an Ohio person.

Ive been to LA, i stayed in the Magic Castle Hotel while there. Thats just off Hollywood Blvd so its a drive out from Downtown.

The best thing I found in LA though was meeting Dominic Keating and Conner Trinner (Lt Reed and Cmd Tucker from Enterprise) in some random supermarket carpark. And Yoshinoya  ;010

If you ever find yourself going to Malaysia just ask me as ive been round there quite a bit. Some old photos can be found at my dads website http://www.stankevitch.com/paul/index.html.

Those photos are before I got my glasses so look alot younger. Anyways enjoy the sights of Malaysia. Years 2001, 2002 and 2004.

I dont think of myself as od, i think of myself as different. Nor am I wealthy as my dad in the past year has become a tightwad.

And ive wanted to go to Japan too, that was the idea but it became quite pricey so we went to LA/SF instead. Though I made us stay in Japantown in SF though, just for fun  ;001

I didnt get chance to go when I was in HK, even though we walked past one on Hong Kong Island somewhere near Star Ferry.

And not even when I was in Singapore for a day. We traveled to Sentosa (and seen Kiki) but not into Singapore itself so didnt have time to look for one  ;015
This is because we had to get across the border to Johor Bahru, Malaysia as we were staying there.

I reside at Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon.  I enjoy living in Portland and refuse to leave, unless bribed to do so (with a great deal of money).  My first place of residence was New York city ââ,¬â€ Jackson Heights in the Borough of Queens.

Other places I've resided are:  Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey, Miami in Florida, Cullman in Alabama, San Antonio and San Angelo in Texas, Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands, Da Nang in Viet Nam, Eugene in Oregon (for university).  Ethnicity-wise, my maternal ancestors were French and my paternal ancestors Irish.

So ... there!

Austria...such a beautiful country! I remember that my family and I were touring Europe on the Autobahn, and road construction forced us onto a back road. Before too soon, my dad had to use the bathroom, so he went in a creek. After pulling his pants up, he slipped on some rocks, breaking his finger. He was soaking wet and had to put his finger in a split of some sort. He was able to find new clothes in our bags, but no shoes. We finally made it to the hotel in Klagenfurt, but he had no shoes. At first the manager thought he was a farmer, then my dad pointed out the window to our BMW. After that the trip went pretty well. Memories...

Anyway, welcome to our humble hamlet!

It was originally bigger, but Sweden (which is also next door), kept taking chunks out of our landmass.  Apparently they thought that was OK, since we had been at war and stuff (by no fault of our own, it was all Denmarks fault since they were running the show at the time).   Some of us keep asking them to give it back, but we've had little luck so far.

Aust-Agder... seems people want to go there, what with the tourism thing, according to wikipedia. (Yes, I went and looked for what county you lived in. I'm bored and doodling with a mechanical pencil...)

Bahaha, Afghanis-tan. XD;

Japanese toilets are fancy.  haha I knew I should have taken a picture of that thing when i was there....

Yeah, the town where I live is actually quite nice during the summer, lot's of stuff happening in the town center all day long.

It's being somewhat remodeled these days, so there's been a lot of construction going on, but I hope they'll be finished before next summer.

yush, I'm sure anyone even remotely following the news knows about that.  At least there wasn't any violence...

I went to Bangkok... what was it, 3, 4 years ago? All I did was follow my mom around as she shopped... I wished I got to see more.

It is not difficult to spot italy (my country) on a world map...

it is that which has the form of a boot...

And this is Naples and Vesuvius Volcano:

Best known in the world for:

Pizza!

Pizza as ists original neapolitan aspect: soft and thin...

[No crunchy and thick as many people may think it should be...  ;014  ;022 ]

Spaghetti!

(Here with sea"fruits")

Mozzarella cheese!

The only cheese in the whole world which smells of milk and not stinks...  ;010

Babà (pron:b-ah b-ah) cakes:

It is a cake from Poland adopted in austrian Wien as very complicated and for special occasions only, full of candy fruit and cream.

In Naples it arrived with Austrian domination in 1700 and soon becomes citizen of Naples transforming it a very "citizen walky cake" for very busy people to be consumed quickly.
Reduced, with no candy fruit and cream anymore. Jut a sprice of Rhum or Limoncello and maybe a little whipped cream if you want to consume it by seat at a table of a cake parlour.

Zeppola cake:

This is another neapolitan dish that is actually conquering world.
Best known with its plural "zeppole".

And finally Sfogliatella recipe cake:

Limoncello lemon liquor

Vulcan Vesuvius:

Pompei archeological site:

Capodimonte Museum with Farnese Collection and other masterpieces:

Caserta King's Palace:

Which you sure had spotted in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" movie, as it was the location for the Naboo queen's palace:

Or again you could had seen this palace accredited as "the Vatican" into Mission Impossible III.

Mandolino:

And this musical banjo-like instrument introduces you to neapolitan music!

Never ever heard "O sole mio" or its variant by Elvis Presley "It is now or never"?

Eduardo De Filippo comedian writer:

Author of "Filumena" tragedy and the "Ghosts of Naples" comedy.

(actor John Tuturro is actually porting "Ghosts of Naples" in a world tour)

Pulcinella:

Also world known as "Mister Punch", a character of the Comedy of Art.

And finally for your eyes...

Sophia Loren:

Oscar Award winning actress

Which inspired also Carl Barks comic maker for Disney's Uncle Scrooge Magazine villain character of Magica de Spell:

That it is all from Naples!

Now I want to visit Italy, thanks to Raffaele the Amigan's excellent overview.  Thank you, Raffaele!

By the way, regarding Sophia Loren, I'd like to suggest everyone screen Vittorio De Sica's 1961 film La Ciociara (released in the U.K. and U.S. as Two Women).  Sophia, in the lead role, delivered a tour de force for which the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded her an Oscar.

Just so you'll know, Raffaele, it's perfectly all right with me if I see Naples and then die.  I want to eat some of that pizza first, though.

And if you like Sophia Loren I advice you to see also:

- "Ieri, oggi, domani" also known with its international name "Yesterday, today, tomorrow" another masterpiece with Sophia and with Marcello Mastroianni as male main actor. Both were directed again by Vittorio de Sica and another Oscar award winning.

If you like more introspective movies:

- "Una giornata particolare" aka "A Special Day", again Sophia and Marcello at their best, directed by Ettore Scola. (2 nominations).

And as relaxing movies:

- "Arabesque" by Stanley Donen.

(One of my preferred movies! And it truly deserves to be seen!)  ;010

And finally a very magnificent fabulous fairy-tales movie with Mrs Loren and Mr. Omar Sharif:

- "C'era una volta..." aka "Once upon a time", or also "More Than a Miracle" in USA, which could also be known with the horrible name of "Cinderella italian style"...
(Very horrible name because it is not related directly with Cinderella tale. Except the fact that the heroine of the story is a peasant woman.)

I was astonished when I discovered this movie five or six years ago. I knew nothing of it!
It is a story made by a big collage of ancient 1600 neapolitan tales.

Sure it is weird, fabulous and evocative...

When in Italy make me a whistle, so we could meet, and I will avoid you to be trapped in the vaste swamp of modern pizzerie reastaurants, which were born in the recent times to catch tourists and which are too often just of "middle quality" (if you are lucky) but also always of EXPENSIVE prices.  ;026

(Due to some speculations on Euro currency since 2001, prices of meals in Italy increased of 100%. Some prices on certain products even of 200%, and reastaurant keepers were among the first who speculated on Euro!) ;014

Thank you, Raffaelle,  for all those film references!  I shall have to see if the video store has them for rent ââ,¬â€ not only to watch Sophia but also Marcello Mastroianni, one of my all-time favorite actors.

On the subject of Italian cinema, one of my favorite actors is Giulietta Masina.  She was brilliant in Federico Fellini's 1954 film La Strada ("The Road"), in the role of Gelsomina; and I also was very impressed with her role as Giulietta Boldrini in Fellini's 1965 film Giulietta degli spiriti (released in the U.S. as Juliette of the Spirits).

I'd love to visit Italy, of course, but my traveling days are behind me.  My rich uncle, Sam, sent me to various Asian destinations some years ago; and although I'm quite satisfied with having experienced the Orient, I'm sorry to have never been to Europe ââ,¬â€ but such is life!

I travel a lot. Airports are a most consistent location for me so you might say that's where I live, even though I hate them. Other common places are Alaska(current location), California, and Costa Rica. The worst part about travel is that it consumes massive amounts of time. I'm unable to pursue most of my hobbies.
Title: Airports!
Post by: MisterCat on January 21, 2007, 11:29:19 PM
Myrdin, I feel your pain when it comes to airports.  I don't travel very often nowadays, but back in the '60s I did a lot of it; and my love of air travel, from back in the day, has given way these past few decades to downright hatred.

De-regulation of airlines in the States marked the downfall of enjoyable air travel.  Back when ticket prices were set in stone, the only way airlines could compete for business was via service; so service was almost universally good.

Now, there is no service:  no in-flight meals, seats designed for short anorexics, mile-long lines at check-in counters with one person (two if you're very lucky) assigned to wait on everybody, aircraft cabins which are either too hot or have no air circulation (or both)....  The list of horrors goes on and on.

Plus, as we saw in the aftermath of the 11 September 2001 tragedies, all that airlines have to do is pout and the federal government throws billions of dollars of our money at them; and nothing improves.  My biggest gripe, though, is the stupid hub-and-spokes malarkey foisted on the traveling public by airline owners and their friends in federal government.

Once upon a time, if you wanted to fly from point A to point B you could find a flight which did just that.  Now, you're forced to stop at these god-awful hub airports ââ,¬â€ like O'Hare in Chicago, where your connecting flight always leaves from a gate five miles distant from where you deplaned upon arrival.

Flying used to be fun, but now it's one royal pain in the ass.  Thanks a lot, corporate executives and politicians, for making what used to be an enjoyable mode of travel into a pile of Spam-in-a-can garbage!

LA's subway system sucks.  When Jeff went to Tokyo in April Jeff loved public transportation.  Here, Jeff can't get anywhere.  Not even by car with all the traffic. >.<

A police officer was shot yesterday, near-walking distance from the apartment I live in.  Of course, I didn't know at the time, but that was the reason the street was closed and I had to sit in traffic yesterday morning.

Other than that, and the threat of earthquakes, and the occasional aggravating idiot, LA is just fine.

I avoid the whole damn place -_- LA dosent seem that bad.. untill you go elsewhere and remind you what a good neighborhood is really like.

I mean.. the LAPD offered me about 70grand a year to start.. but I figured that would be more dangerous then going back to Iraq.

yeah, I've done some traveling, so I know what you mean. Did I mention I live under the Rampart Division's beat? That should give everyone an idea of the crime rate where I live.  I'm 3 stories above street level.  A little buffer zone, if you want to put it that way. ^^ I dislike walking outside here... And if you did accept that job with the LAPD, I'd fear for you. o_O

I'm also afraid of the crazy idiots that drive around here. I can't really avoid contact with them when I need to drive someplace.

You're a lot closer to us than you might think, Exa.  At least it seems that way to me, given the fact I'm an old geezer and thus I can (so far, anyway) remember some events from ages ago ââ,¬â€ things which happened, for example, in 1956.

I was living at Miami in Florida at the time; hence I could only imagine how awful the situation in Hungary must have been.  I thought, as a little kid used to the bad-guy/good-guy "all's well that ends well" points of view continuously foisted upon the U.S. public via corporate mainstream media of communication, that our nation might go to war to assist the Hungarians.

How ignorant I was, how little I knew of politics!  I'll tell you this, though:  Everyone whom I knew ââ,¬â€ acquaintances, friends, myself, relatives ââ,¬â€ was completely in sympathy with your country's men and women who'd (albeit only temporarily) kicked the bums out and sought to establish a free society.

Distant sympathy, of course, doesn't help those who are on the spot in a crisis.  Anyway, to make this long story short, at that time I couldn't imagine ever speaking with somebody from such a seemingly-distant place as Hungary; yet now, thanks to my humble computing system and the inter-net, I have.

;hi

Alright - first of all it's a very impolite joke you have running there with the exchangement of U with A - even if the result will be a cleaning tool with non straight sexual behaviour

Second - I am indeed from Scandinavia - Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland is what I'd call Scandinavia - then again some other people think it's only Denmark, Sweden and Norway - what would I know - with my definition one of the admins is from Scandinavia as well so I'll stick to that

I'm already bracing for the reaction I might get from revealing this, but I live in a state a part of the deep south of the United States called Mississippi.  I'm not really what you would call a proud southerner or at least a proud Mississippian.  I try to get on the various forums I belong to fairly often in the beginning, but I've noticed that my attendance tends to dwindle as time rolls on... I'm hoping it won't happen here :D .

I've done a good amount of traveling. Never really --lived-- anywhere else.  Stayed in many places for a week or two, never lived.

And yeah, looking at most other places, this place does suck.  But I do like the diversity.  (and the food from that diversity. especially the food. haha )  That, in my eyes, is its saving grace and keeps me attached.  If I ever get a family tho, I'm sure I won't be raising them here. The cities seem horrible though, so I'd rather not stay there. Too much pollution and gangs, like everyone seems to say.

Yes I come from the sex and drugs capitol of europe :D , that tiny, tiny dried-up swamp between the UK (go Top Gear!! WOOT) and Germany, wich is currently run by a schoolboy closely resembling harry potter, and his incompetent cronies.

Post by: Smokey on February 21, 2008, 06:29:09 AM
Well, if you put a lot of effort in it I guess you could manage to get a windmill for living purposes, however that may be the same as our castle rip-off (you can buy a castle for about â,¬2.50 and live in it, but you must -by law- keep the site in pristine condition, of your own money)
But I just live in an ugly new-built (read: bodged, as all new buildings are) appartment block, where the red arrow points (bottom pic). In a hick town where everyone (as it seems) is a hypocritical über-christian yenter (bad, and annoying). The current architectural state of my town is so bad that the only decent pic of the city center I could find is this:

Someone got it in their thick mind that it is a GOOD idea to tear down the historical buildings (not the churches offcourse) and replace them with ugly new ones...

*thanks god for Zwolle*

I don't think I've informed the OS-tan peeps about this, but I am now a resident of Northridge, California.
Out of an apartment and into a house for the first time.  Feels... liberating, but now I have yard work and pool cleaning to think about.

In-N-Out nearby, train station to downtown nearby, so I can skip rush hour traffic...
haha, it kinda sucks that AX just moved closer to the LA Convention Center (mere minutes from my apartment), and now I moved further away.  oh wells.  At least it's closer than Long Beach or Anaheim.
Actually, I miss being close to downtown restaurants.  there was so much more variety there, and the little restaurants make the best food in my opinion.

Well, my home is pretty boring, really.
U.W. is a pretty small town, 36k roughly, with a hueg lot of sandpeople in the central district, nothing but whites in the west (where i live), unimportant people in the northeast-east, and self-important snobs with non-closed pools in the southeast.

What we've got of rarities can be summed up to a bronze-age farm/museum, a castle, a big glass tilted-pyramid-ish building and some fag conference center where the big shot politicians of the world go.

Boring, isn't it. -.-

Title: Location Location Location

well, wooden shoes are used here mostly by farmers for practical reasons, since they are easy to clean and you can slip them on and off easily...Farmers rarely wear shoes inhouse since their shoes are often covered in mud and other crap...
But wooden shoes or a leather variant with an open back are also used as loafers, since you can wear them outside and walk long bits in them (if you're used to them, that is)...

Windmill part will follow...

Yes, but it's spelled Tierra del Fuego, with two Rs.

As for Maxima, I suppose you mean the Princess of the Netherlands. Right?

I stopped liking her when, during the 2006 Germany World Cup, she declared on Argentinean National TV that she was hoping that the Netherlands would win the game that ended in a tie against Argentina.

I have nothing against the Netherlands; in fact the Netherlands was one of the few western nations that denounced the atrocities that the De Facto Military government of Argentina was doing during the 70s, but football is something really big here.

.... "lol"?  Hundreds of thousands die, and you crack a joke?  Especialy after someone just said they are from there?  What if they knew someone there huh?  Think that might upset them maybe?  How about me, I just said I was there for the after math. I saw bodies swept 25 miles off shore that had been water logged and bloated in the sun for a week by the time our ship arrived with food an water and medical supplies.  Think I might take offence to that JUST MAYBE?

I'm a practically minded person, and that particular emotion has been deemed unnecessary. Therefore, it has been removed from the interface's output console. Thus, no reason to try not to, since it simply won't work.

And the lawsuit against TPB is just a game for the galleries, anyway - nothing's gonna get anywhere this year, or the next, or the one after that. This will go up into the highest instance (it's 1/3 now), and that process is LOOOOONG. Torrents will be just as obsolete as windows 3.1 is today before they finish the trial...whatever the outcome may be.

Title: Location Location Location
Post by: Smokey on February 17, 2009, 07:56:40 PM
Ah, Deerhunter 2004... it's always deer season on the PC :D
We only have an overpopulation of wild boar here, and it's nearly impossible to get a hunting licence, let alone get a gun...
It's easier to get a crossbow (you can get one of those when you're 16) than a firearm here...
Title: Location Location Location
Post by: IanDanKilmaster on February 17, 2009, 08:10:12 PM
Here it's just the opposite, once you're licensed to use a crossbow, you forfeit any other projectile weapon.  Apparently only handicapped people are allowed to use crossbows for hunting here and you have to prove you can no longer use a firearm or a standard bow before you're given a license to hunt using a crossbow.  This is all according to my father, of course, and he has a tendency to get things totally ass-backwards.  Personally, I only have experience using compound bows, but I am severely out of practice.  So even though I really, really, wants me some deer meat, I can't legally do anything about it -__-.

Strange thing here is: It is illegal to have a firearm without a licence, but any 16 year old can buy a xbow... However it is also illegal to use sharpened tips on arrows and xbow bolts...

WTF seriously, once you have a crossbow, it's easy to make deadly projectiles for it... Plus Xbows are stealthier than firearms...

North Carolina, USA here!

I used to live in upstate NY for a semester of college, and I love it up there. Very natural, very eco-friendly. Unlike here, where eating your weight in greasy food seems to be a badge of honor.

I have a few friends around here, but I keep to myself most of the time. I've had some bad things happen to me because I went looking for friends, and I am a unmarried Southern girl of child bearing age -.-

Tradition, and pressure. You would be surprised in this day and age how many boyfriends insist their girlfriends listen to everything they say, or get beat or emotionally abused if they try to leave. Don't believe all this "southern girls are tough!" crap you hear about - its all covering quite a sick culture.

IanDanKilmaster, I know right! I have a friend who lives a hour outside of Austin in GiddingS! I went to visit him, and I actually fell in love with Texas. And here I thought I would have to battle the Super Devil the moment I got off the plane.

when we went to Austin, we went to The House of Torment, we went to the mall and I got a lot of stuff I couldn't get here, and then we went to the Alamo, of course, and saw Bill Mahers new film.

Too true -__-.  My sister was just talking to me about the whole Rihanna/Chris Brown thing the other day - she was surprised about young couple abuse.  When she said that, I was like "Bitch, did we go to the same school?".  Of course, I'm kidding about what I said, but still I let her know that this was quite common in high school (and I'm pretty sure is still common with those people).

Wow, The House of Torment was utterly awesome. I assure you the reason he said it was "lame" was because he more than likely got scared by the promo videos they have going on in front of the house. And the 15 foot tall demon in front did it, as seen here -

It was quite funny seeing all the tough 13 year olds puffing themselves up, and then coming out shaking and scared. One kid even pulled a fire alarm instead of telling the monsters, like you're supposed to, to get out.

I. . . got very "happy" in my pants. Fear is my utter turn on. I was scared, I was dripping with sweat, and I would have let 50 overweight Asian men take a run at me. at the end.

I got the feeling from Austin that it's more of a Deadhead place, with some grunge or techno thrown in when it's drunk.

In short, Austin is a awesome place, and I love seeing where everyone is from!

Tsukkomi?  I assume he was considering admonishing you from a perceived lack of modesty or subtlety o__O?

QuoteI got the feeling from Austin that it's more of a Deadhead place, with some grunge or techno thrown in when it's drunk.

Austin is a music city, so you find all kinds.  I wasn't really referring to the natives, it was just my time in Austin was my first time going to any show.  So I wasn't accustomed to the stupidity that often accompanies the adolescents who attend metal shows.  Still High on Fire/Opeth was a great show, even if the venue was really, really lame (butterflies hanging from the ceiling, WTF?! this isn't a damn prom) and the crowd was filled with idiots (a number of whom I got to watch get escorted out, lulz).

QuoteIn short, Austin is a awesome place, and I love seeing where everyone is from!

Well, I doubt you would want to see where I'm from, but indeed Austin is a great place.

Glad to see a Russian in here... If you have the same sense of humour as i do, this could be fun... we could crack jokes about the Yankees here... ^_^

Naah, seriously though, once you look beyond the prejudice you see a nice country with lots of lovely nature (photographer, so i look at those things) and a very interesting culture (more sympathetic with former CCCP than with most NATO countries, wich is fun, cuz i'm joining the airforce ^_^)...

Of course i have good sense of humour^^ (Nejin, we like joking about USSR too, so don't worry;))) Yes it's very nice country with beautiful nature (especially on it's northern part, for example, the Far East or Karelia) but the main disadvantage of it, I think, is cold weather (practically 6 month of snow, wind and rain).
I traveled a lot and visited many countries such as Spain, Portugal, France, Germany (only 1 day in Berlin so I actually don't remember it quite well), Andorra, the Netherlands and England (in each of them I've been 3 days, but at that period I've loved them^^) practically the whole Eastern Europe. Wish to go to the USA some day. I just want to be international person, that's all)))

It was great though I saw only Amsterdam and countryside near it.The first thing in town that amazed me was a great number of cycles (after seen mostly cars at the road it was really amazing stuff^^ I like cycling^^). And of cause a lot of shops with drugs (if I am not mistaken, I was there 2 years ago  )
Countryside is lovely too ;012 I've never seen wind power plants before)) But It is a shame that I haven't seen fields of  tulips cuz it was winter time :(
And more over it is the homeland of WT (they are my favorite ^_^  ) I want to come back ^_^

Drugs? Amsterdam? Hmmm, one would generally think of a particular substance involving Amsterdam, but I dare not ask if my assumption is correct - it would further derail this thread.  Also, I tend to be paranoid.  Anyway, you seem to have a very interesting background (drawing on the combined knowledge of the info you've shared on this forum), and on top of that, you're a pretty damn good artist, excellent.

On topic, I've already shared a good deal of knowledge about where I'm from.  I'm in the United States, so I'll leave it at that ^^;.

Thanks for the compliment ;073 This knowledge comes not only from travailing but also from my geography studying in university   We also made there to know each state in the US for our World Economics.
Want to go to the US especially to the states which are containing The Great Plains. Want to see prairie myself ^_^

But I don't understand about drugs. Am I mistaken? I'm sorry if it so(( But I'm sure I saw at the streets of Amsterdam "Magic Mushroom" shop where I wanted to buy a hat made of hemp (just for fun  ) . But when I tried to the shop assistant told me that I'm under-age and can't have it

Yeah, there were shrooms in amsterdam, but they're outlawed nowadays after some french tourist ate some and jumped off a bridge, thinking she could fly...
So the only legal drugs available in amsterdam is weed or weed-based... (not that the rest isn't available anymore).. and yes there are indeed lots and lots of cycles in holland, but i wouldn't recommend bringing one to amsterdam (or any personal transportation) because cycles get stolen alot... ^_^

(BTW it is on topic if i post this, cuz i am from holland :P)

well, it's not really dangerous if you look out for the cars (ya know, stay right on the road instead of the middle, stop for cars, etc)...
But yes, some bikers (especially those G**DA** M**H**F**K**G groups of students who bike in F**K**G groups of 4-6 G**D**N** Bikes WIDE and about 20 M**H**F**K**G bikes long.... everytime i'm in a car with somebode we really want to slam the gas down and bash right through those M**H**F**K**G B**C**S!!!!!) are a bit annoying... ^_^

Naah, i don't have issues with certain bikers because i have nearly gotten in an accident/killed when i encountered them... ^_^

Yeah but cars are giving one impression about their danger (for example size) and bikes give the other. Before I saw bikes in Amsterdam I didn't think that they can be realy dangerous  It's cuz in Russia there is practically no cycles on the road. It is a realy very rear thing And about dam students....well this stuff I can only see at fest (which usually takes place at countryside)

Be glad because those groups are lethal... i almost ended up in a canal once bcause of them, and more than once almost ended up against some hard object... I also have the urge to speed up when i see a biker at night who doesn't have his/her lights on... Driving in town?Or at countryside? In Moscow it is more ricky to drive at countryside at night than at day (about driving in town i'll keep silent cuz it is ricky at any time). Cops like to caught ones without license very late at night (not usually for the justice and order but for the money which is very shame :( )
Title: Location Location Location
Post by: Smokey on April 25, 2009, 05:21:22 PM
Both, my driving lessons are 1,5 hours long and i drive from my city to another where i drive around in the city and then go back again...

And i've heard of russion cops taking bribes, but nowadays it seems that not all cops take bribes so it's dangerous to try to bribe nowadays...
Title: Location Location Location
Post by: Vaereth on April 25, 2009, 06:18:13 PM
It is true about the bribes and yes about their starting to give up (that becase fine for the breaking the law are nowadays is the same as bribe in value. But in spite of fines and bribes russian people still drive awful and cuz of that break the law to often)

Driving lessons are usually take place at countryside in Moscow cuz of a lot of cars on the road 24/7 (traffic jams is usually thing). Some times I think in this town there are more cars than people :D

That is one of the (very small) reasons i am joining the airforce, soldiers and airmen are generally appreciated.... And when the general public starts complaining, there usually will be ome sort of calamity where the army is needed and then the people are all happy and grateful again... :D

Well, here it also depends on your education, if you have no diploma's you can only apply for soldier/corporal, with high school diplomas you can go for Non commisioned officer, and if you've gone to higher class colleges, you can go for an officers function...
However even though i am applying for a job as a sergeant air traffic controller, i will get a standard 4 month training (boot camp) and after that 1,5 year of ATC education... Plus when i'm finished with all that and i've been appointed a posistion somewhere, i can follow another free education of choice, thus creating chances of getting higher up and becoming an officer...

Scientific based high school and college... basically education in holland is seperated into three basic categorys;
MBO wich is the dutch equivalent of Среднее проÑ,,ессиональное образование (http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%90%C2%A1%C3%91%E2%82%AC%C3%90%C2%B5%C3%90%C2%B4%C3%90%C2%BD%C3%90%C2%B5%C3%90%C2%B5_%C3%90%C2%BF%C3%91%E2%82%AC%C3%90%C2%BE%C3%91,,%C3%90%C2%B5%C3%91%C3%91%C3%90%C2%B8%C3%90%C2%BE%C3%90%C2%BD%C3%90%C2%B0%C3%90%C2%BB%C3%91%C5%92%C3%90%C2%BD%C3%90%C2%BE%C3%90%C2%B5_%C3%90%C2%BE%C3%90%C2%B1%C3%91%E2%82%AC%C3%90%C2%B0%C3%90%C2%B7%C3%90%C2%BE%C3%90%C2%B2%C3%90%C2%B0%C3%90%C2%BD%C3%90%C2%B8%C3%90%C2%B5)
HBO wich is (not translated to Russian or English on Wikipedia yet ^_^) higher than MBO, but still lower than academic college at a university...
And then there are (you've guessed it ^_^) Universities...
Title: Location Location Location
Post by: Vaereth on April 26, 2009, 01:53:17 PM
As I understand MBO & HBO have both theoretical and practical parts of education, haven't them? (during the education practical part appears only at the last courses at the Universities in Russia)

True there is a half-year long period where you work at a company relevant to your study to experience the practical side of the thing you're studying for, And at the end you will have to write a paper about it...

It is just that thing that russian students are doing then they are at the last courses :)
Ð'ut at the school (high level) and first years at university there aren't any practice only theory(

Russian school I think is like the school in European countries.
1-4 classes is a young school (starting to go to the school after 7 years old)
5-9 classes is a middle school  (the basic theoretical knowledge become more complicated. And also a lot of subjects appears (in some schools there are about 20-25 of them))
9-11 (some times 12) classes is a high school (also studding the same number of subjects and start to prepare for the university exams)

The great minus of russian school is a lot of homework for every subject. For example, when I was there, I spent nearly all day to do it wholly. More over russian study at school (and university too) 6 days a week.

In university students have to study theory professional theory fist (for about 3-4 years) and then they are allowed to start practice

I live in a damn village, populated by old people, students and lots of sheep, on the northern tip of an island, populated to 66% by LOTS AND LOTS AND MORE SHEEP. And the only reason it's even on the map, is because it's docking place for the ferry to ANOTHER island, with SO MUCH SHEEP IT'S CALLED SHEEP ISLAND.

Seriously, I want to kill something cute and cuddly and hang its innards over someone's bed and hear them scream in horror when they wake up, BEFORE I proceed to scribble all over them with the dead bloody damn creature's blood and feed them its brains ON A STICK.

Its in the state constitution; Virginia, Georgia, and Massachusetts governors are always addressed as His/her Excellency rather then His/Her Honor.

But we have had a kooky assemblage of other personalities.  Not as many as Texas of course.....

Are there nearby toxic waste dumps?

Once, on the Cape, we had a bright night. Something to do with the low cloud cover and nearby town, could've read a newspaper outside at 2am by the light of the sky. I remember another one, happened in Destin, Florida...

Everything's soggy and wet and disgusting here. FANKS GLOWBALL WARMING.

Wrong. I saw the Aurora Borelis in NH, November 2004. It was maybe 2 am, my dad put the dog outside when he saw the lights in the sky and woke up the entire family. We drove to the top of a nearby hill and sat in a clearing and watched it for a hour or so-- until it disappeared.

I'd describe it as pulsating waves of light, sheets that moved in a rough north to south pattern-- not quite the organized banners of light that you see in most pictures, but very bright and clear all the same. Mostly green and blue, but there was a bit of yellow and orange as well.

my ex worshiped norse gods. i made him a mjollnir pendant in jewelry for christmas. but he dumped me (on christmas) before i could give it to him.

so i sent it with a "burn in hell" note in the mail.

but he worshiped odin and loki. i prefer thor to be honest. freja is nice too. ^^

That's burn in Hel for him, if that's the case...honestly, I wouldn't envy those under the mercy of THAT lass, mind you. Not every man slain becomes an Einherjar, so to speak...

Worshiping Loke is just asking for severe trouble to begin with. Staying out of his way would be a good thing to do, if that's any indication of his nature - and by what's been seen, it sure seems that way...guh. -.-

And yeah. Cappy capped in and out, it seemed. Haven't been seen in some two months or so now, eh?

Used to live in Malaysia, now in China.
Most of the people here are in American continent. No wonder why there were so little people when I come in (After school 3:30pm).

she probably is. let's see, there's you (kgm), zen, vae (since vae never told us if it was western or eastern russia), and one or two other people, i can't remember their users right now.

after that, i'd say that roughly 50% of ACTIVE users are from north american continent (with 35 % coming from europe, 15% from aisa, and 5% being other, including our resident aussie, sora.)

this is nothing but guestimation. please don't flame me. ;.;

me, you, Red-Machine(?), bella, Nejin, stew, Cockleshell(?) and my friend/brother, who will be driving.

and as for OS-tans, Bella could make a passable 95 if she grows out her hair, i've convinced stew to go as 3.1-kun, trying to convince red to go as 98-kun, nej is vista, i'm 2k, and friend/bro will probably be norton.

everyone esle is undecided. i also have an XP-kun cosplay lying around, though it is a tad small.

i'll go make a thread anyway. we can always necropost it back if it dies.

Your idea of New Hampshire-tan is so different from mine, Kari, due to my upbringing in the White Mountains. I imagine her as more-or-less San's (Mononoke Hime) long-lost sister; a wild-but-wise forest-dweller who can commune with the animals and live of the land - albeit with a gun over one shoulder and dressed in a mix of of militia-esque clothing (spanning the last 300 years mind you). She can be loosely described as pagan in her beliefs (believing in a number of nature-spirits) and libertarian as far as political affiliation goes. She hates her hippie-neighbor Vermont, is ambivalent to Maine-tan, likes Rhody-chan and has a love-hate relationship with Massachusetts - who's enamored over NH-tan and enjoys, erm, romancing her. Connecticut-chan is dead to her, if she ever acknowledged her existence... ^^;;;

Well, aside from the earliest years where it was mostly being directed in the direction to walk by parents, yes. Though in highschool it was more of a "DAMNIT, CAN'T NOT HAVE SHITLOADS OF MUSIC IN SCHOOL, MUST GO ON." for both me and sis. It's a TAD addictive. _W_

@Choco: I think I know where that is. That's where the Salem Witch Trials took place eons ago, right?
I'm probably wrong, but it's worth a guess

What adds to the weirdness of my hometown is how the name is pronounced; most would assume it's like the Middle Eastern country (Pal-UH-stein), but it's really more like how Fredric Frankenstein, from Young Frankenstein, pronounces his last name (PAL-es-STEEN). I couldn't make this shit up even if I tried...

heh. that's kinda funny.

Title: Re: Location Location Location
Post by: Nichi on May 16, 2011, 07:56:49 PM
I'm not sure if there is one in Oregon, but the main park in my hometown is Reagan Park; getting it's name from John Reagan (In fact, there's a statue of him in the park; which I'll probably take a picture of sometime and post it). There is a 2nd park in town; the Dogwood Trails, which is the one I prefer now (It's a little more out of the way, but it's quieter and prettier; especially if you go in early spring. If the weather is just right, it's a nice place to have a picnic or read a book)

Unless you where referring to something else when talking about Oregon; in which case disregard the first 9 words of this post

this is EXTREMELY late to the party, but parts of New England are decent, despite the cold. we have a fairly high cost of living compared to the rest of the country, but some of the smaller cities are doable, though our crime rate has gone up a smidge. but we're a fairly diverse population up here (especially Massachusetts, helps that it's the most populated), and overall lean liberal, which can help with adjusting since people tend to be a tiny bit more accepting. i have no experience with that, but my dad does (he immigrated from Europe in the 80's). someone in the south literally said after he said where he was from "That's wher all dem kangaroos er from, riiight?". he just kinda smiled and nodded.

as indicated by that, i'm from the Northeast US, where the cost of living is high and my state's wages are low! historic houses, beautiful scenery, rising drug problem, lack of affordable housing....

tbh i still love it here, despite itself. it's also nice that we don't have very much in the way of natural disasters here (blizzards, but otherwise the worst things in the region lately have been a drought due to climate change and an out-of-left-field tornado in Mass a few years ago). it can be a bit cold for people, though, so it's not for everyone. :0

I kinda wanna leave Florida, but everywhere else is expensive, cold, and/or deep red. :( I saw a mansion in West by god Virginia on a Facebook friend's wall, where it was indicated that she'd totally buy it and start a polycule group house if she had the money, but again, West Virginia. :v

unless they moved, two of our own live in WV. i'm sure they'd agree on some level that it's kinda gross (like, super republican, kinda religious, etc), but the scenery is supposed to be gorgeous, there's a lot of cool history there, and the cost of living is lower. plus, the climate's kinda moderate, i think? (some of their winters can be tough, depending on how far into the mountains you are.) i think the biggest things you'd need to worry about there (besides what's already mentioned) would be things like water quality due to coal mine pollution, as well as access to state services and the potential for poverty. but poverty's a concern everywhere. :0

i'm super biased, ofc, but i think you'd mostly like it here (the Northeast). you get used to the cold, and if you are, sweaters are a thing. i actually prefer that, since i can always put on another sweater--i can't remove my skin. ><;

my loyalties to here are for many reasons, though. despite our troubles, i'd be loathe to leave my family behind. (even after death. i try and visit the family grave a few times a year.)

My family, myself included, hates cold; that's why we moved to Florida. X3
