Title: Conventions!!
Post by: rdhdtwns on February 15, 2007, 07:57:15 PM
What conventions does everyone attend? I live in the midwest USA, so I'm mostly in the Ohio/Kentucky con scene. The cons I'm attending this year are~

Daigacon (Bowling Green, KY)
Anime Punch! (Columbus, OH)
Anime Central (Chicago, IL)
Colossalcon (Cleveland, OH)
Otakon (Baltimore, MD)
Tsubasacon (Huntington, WV)
Sugoicon (Cincinnati, OH .. also my personal fav <3)

Anyone from the board going to any of these? I'm staff at Anime Punch!, and doing work for Tsubasacon and Sugoicon, and possssibly Anime Central.
I'm not dragging XP-tan anywhere this year ^^; but if someone else from the board goes, find me!

I have often considered going to an animecon, but I've been too busy. Are any of those in the summer? I know a couple of guys who might want to go. I have often thought what it would be like to meet someone from the forum at a con...

Totally guessing by your name to distinguish your location, you'd probably be good getting to Otakon, location wise :) It is in the summer, and it's the largest con on the East Coast (24,000+ last year, wooo!)

I'm sorry, Codi-san.  ;__;

Usually I attend Anime North in Canada, and Anime Central and Youmacon in the US.  But this year I'm afraid I'll have to pass on all of them, due to business needs.  ;__;

I'll be sure to compensate you for your complete lack of C-chan-ness, though.  ^__^

Maybe some more 25 cent postcards of my OS-tans.  ^v^'

I like conventions, but there's never enough time to attend many. Usually I'm only able to reserve time-off for Comic-Con in San Diego. To make up for lost time I'll spend the whole week there.

Last year was amazing. About 120,000 people made it into the convention hall. I was quite surprised to find some military acquaintences and weapons manufacturers hawking chibi figurines. They had a plate carrier and M4 stashed under their table.

A couple of my friends dress up as hunters on safari to go to some furry convention(don't remember the name).

Now, technical conventions... I go to too many of those.

I go to conventions but rarely, i'm going to my first animecon this year, i hope they've got some good OS-tan merchendise laying around!

Other than that I went to a few gaming conventions, a couple electronics conventions, that's about it.

I would like to come but there are some problems  ;018

- I live in Germany
- I have never been in America
- I don't have the money because I spent a lot (a large amount) for the animation/drawing equipments -.-"

- My english isn't the best....

I have been thinking of going to Akon in texas, since i know some people there. That will not happen this year at least, though, since I'm not really a person prone to spontaneous overseas trips or skipping my studies. Maybe next year though...

I usually only attend one con a year.

Nan-Desu-Kan in Denver.  It is the nearest con I know of so I don't have to leave the state. :)

I'm going to AX for my third year. :3
Going to see the SOS-dan there. X3

I'd like to go to Sakuracon and Otakon one of these days... I MIGHT go to Anime LA this January. I'd like to experience a small con.  cuz AX is HUEG.

There's only ONE anime convention in Ottawa and that's AC Cubed. Toronto gets all the anime conventions. >_< AC Cubed is usually only for two to three days in November in a hotel lobby and costs about 60 CDN dollars to get in. I only went once because last year my parents wouldn't let me go. I hoping that this year, they'll let me go.

There are actually no conventions here, officially. There are some times that members of anime.is have one, well it's actually more of a get-together of otakus, it could be called a con.

I went as a video game character.. tho techincly an american game -_- but oh well, it was fun to have people run clear across the large rooms screaming "wait!  Cpl Shepard wait! I have to have your photo!!!"

those who knew who i was anyways, thats what it means to be a obscure character.. most dont know who you are, but those that do are really geeked to see you.

Most people just called me counterstrike guy

ahh just finished day of the 2 day event!!
i'm sooo tired

cosplay was pretty nice though! lots of transformers cosplay some even transforms!! i think there was about 9 not sure and even TWO GOBOTS!!! (leader one and cykill). IMHO i thing its good that nobody used the new transformers design from the movie.

Shocking to say but there was only one Haruhi Cosplayer ONE, i give her a lot of credit thou because she did create a big fuss, wearing a bunny suit and all.

and the 165th cosplayer (the last) was a Wikipe-tan! first cosplay i've seen here that is in anyway related to the os-tan. too bad i didn't get a picture.

very lively event i must say and i'm waiting for group cosplay competition tomorrow cuz there's a cosplay group here that rocks the convention hall, they've choreographed some pretty fast and awesome fights while wearing Hunter X hunter and streetfighter-snk character cosplays. they even use wrestling maneuvers such as hurricaranas and  stuff.

I actually only just went to my first anime convention this year but it's going to be the first of many. I go to Anime North up here in Canada. It's over in Toronto though so the ride is a couple of hours to and from.

I didn't have a lot of money at the time, but next year I'll be prepared, and the year after that, and the year after that...

Title: Conventions!!
Post by: UltZero on July 02, 2007, 11:48:41 PM
At Anime North this year we had the premier of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Johnny Yong Bosch (who voices Koizumi in the english dub) was also there as the main judge for this SOS-dan dance-a-thon thing (perhaps the concert thing you were talking about? Or perhaps it was something more local... and by local I mean in your own country, which I'm assuming is the US). Several teams of people would take turns going and do the full dance segment that is partially shown during the credits. It was pretty neat. ^^

Also, I wasted most of the money I brought on the Sumumiya Haruhi Boxset which came with extra doodads and a poster. At the time, the Suzumiya Haruhi DVD had not yet been released, or so it was advertised. So me, being lucky and all, got to watch the volume 1 DVD of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya before many others.
Title: Conventions!!
Post by: SleepyD on July 03, 2007, 12:15:17 AM
haha, close, but this concert included the winners of said contest dancing along with Johnny Bosch, Stephanie Sheh, Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Yuko Goto along with a large percentage of the audience in the arena. XD;

and by "those girls are cute" I meant those three seiyuu. :3

Oh wow, Nice. I've never seen Aya Hirano or the others live. That's pretty much bragging rights right there. Also, yeah I'll bet they are pretty cute, from what I've seen in pictures they seem to be. ^^;

*wanders into thread*
Wooo...dusty.
*dusts off thread and old stuff*
Sorry, I'm late  ^-^;

Anyways! I forgot about posting about my convention visit in septober, since I had other stuff to do at the time. But now it's been done, and thank the dear Captain-san for reminding me of this thread's existence^-^;

This year at UppCon, which is the largest Swedish anime con (although in comparison to the american ones it's nothing at all, seeing it's only hosting 2000-something people over a single weekend) Nejin-ssu went as Visbou-kun (http://kazumi386.org/~ostan2/pic_os_uploader01_02/long_kun/src/1178550856112.jpg) , in order to see what cosplaying what like (first-timer) and to honor our dear forum and fandom. The comments i got from this were mostly of two kinds - "What is that you're cosplaying?" which gave me lots of trouble, due to Visbou-kun being obscure even among OS-tans - and "That's one savvy mesh shirt you've got there! Where'd you buy it? WHAT!? Handsewn!? Damnit, that's freaking awesome!" - which usually made me go tomato mode, if you know what I mean. Other things that happened quite randomly were the establishment the Boxman Fanclub (if you're wondering who the Boxman is, that's me, for obscurer-than-obscurest reasons), and my acquiring of a hat. That was probably the most random thing ever happened to me (possibly contested by last year's UppCon when I was randomly selected to make the sign for the Hentai room (which i had nothing to do with at all, i can add)), and went simply like this:
Quote
Nejin: *is playing Super Smash Bros Melee*
Dude: "Yo, boxman." *puts hat on Nejin's head*
Nejin: "Wha?"
Dude: *is gone*

...so, yeah, it was the regular type of insane Con, albeit small.
Anyways! The (only two of them! ^-^; ) pics from my cosplay are reposted here from Topicless, so I'll URL them for space. Anyways, here ya go! (except nothing much though ^^)

Last Sunday I went to a con here in Monterrey. "XXXI Convención de Juegos de Mesa y Comics"

Whoa, It was like a can of sardines, almost impossible to walk >_>. Cosplay...ugh, too much naruto and bleach. Srsly, there should be a limit...
Well, at least there was not a lot of Inuyasha cosplay.

I saw 2 decent Shanas, a Haruhi, a Yuki and a Mikuru. a good chidori and an AWESOME Suiseiseki. A shame my cellphone camera sucks.
Special mention to a Shippon (Uchuu no Stellvia). Never though I'd Stellvia cosplay at this time, in this place. >_>

I'm surprised I didn't saw any Lucky Star cosplay/merchandise.

..
And well...I HAS A RIN
(http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2197/tohsakabome03ad4.jpg)

Are you saying there's not a single convention available in the Netherlands!? That's just...weird. Really.
If you've got a few euros to spare, though, you might just consider going abroad for that. American con's are bigger, better and plenty more, but I think there's a good amount of anime-cons in continental europe - there's a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anime_conventions) at wikipedia if you wanna check.
