Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Exa on January 03, 2007, 07:03:34 AM
Since I'm on this forum, I saw a lot of interesting nicknames. I'm always wondering about their origins. So I would be happy if you say something about them.

And to start the topic, here is mine nickname's description: Exa is a prefix in the SI system of units and denoting 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 (Yes, I'm a bit megalomaniac  :D ) There are bigger prefixes, but Zetta or Yotta doesn't sound that good: Exa is shorter, and it can be used in arcade games where you only have three spaces to put your name.  ;012

Also, I mentioned in my introduction the name Exec; it's just a short form of Executor.

Hmmm...  I think I had just watched that "Jay and Silent Bob" movie back in the days, so I needed a nick and SilentBob became it. (I use it at a number of places).  I spelled it a bit wrong here, with a small "b" in "Bob", but forum registration forms have become so tedious.  :P

Maybe I should ask to have it changed to "AmigaBob" since C-Chan likes to call me that, lol.

Ohh, that Jay and Silent Bob movie... I saw it once, and made me LOL.

And "AmigaBob" sounds interesting. If you want to, I'm calling you AmigaBob. :)

Well, I had another screen name, "Dopetoinfinity", ever since I was thirteen so about two years ago I tried to think up something new. I looked towards my X-Box for inspiration and I found that it's name was "Donut", I thought "Hey cool! Thats it!". However, Me and my friends started to watch Red Vs. Blue and they all said I stole it. And so I shrugged it off still contemplating a cool name, after a day or so I was still contemplating while playing Halo with a few of my buddies When all of the sudden I realised that the name of my X-Box wasnt "Donut" but rather "Mopey". Suddenly it was clear exactly what my name was going to be! "Oh Lawd!" I thought to my self, "This totaly beats my other idea. What was I thinking?!...gosh who names themselves "Saucy"?"

Post by: Pitkin on January 03, 2007, 01:12:03 PM
I grew up listening to a translated radio play, which in original English script was called Men from the Ministry. The play featured two civil servants, Mr Hannibal Hamilton-Jones (later Mr Roland Lennox-Brown) and Mr Richard Lamb (Lamm in the Finnish translation), their secretary Miss Mildred Murfin and, and finally their supervisor, undersecretary Sir Gregory (Henry in Finnish version) Pitkin.

Pitkin was a detestable character; not only as lazy as his underlings, he also was corrupt and debauched beyond imagination, abusing his position in every point possible. However, he was also (much thanks to the superb Finnish voice actor) the cream of the crop of the awesome staff, and managed to make the listener laugh more than a few times during the series.

In 2002 December, I joined my first international website, the Princess Maker Nexus, and chose SirHenryPitkin as my screenname. I later took it with me to Oldgames.nu (after registering as 'Veijalainen' in two other sites in between), but after leaving the site in 2005 I had had enough of that long nickname. The next generation was just Pitkin; shorter, but still recognizable. I've used a few other nicknames as well, mostly Pitkin variants, however.

Wow, this is an interesting thread.  -v-

And I officially endorse AmigaBob's offical recognition of "AmigaBob".  ^__^

Oh, my nickname?  '__'

The origin itself is a long story predating back to my pre-Anime days, but the name itself is short for "Cochino-chan".

You can Google it, or ask Darknight what that means.  ^__^

2nd off:
Ultimus = Latin = Last/Final
Ninja = Japanese = Spy

Last/Final Spy

although had I have created my dragon ealier, my nm would have been Uthantion...but people know my as Ultimaninja, and here resident-ninja, lol

Now I'm the official Spanish-English translator?
Cochino = Pig
therefore:
Cochino-chan = Pig-chan
therefore:
C-chan = P-chan

...
My nickname? I think I posted the reasons before <_<
But before anyone asks, no, It isn't related in any way to Batman. But I don't know why I chose this nickname, I just started using it years ago. Now that I think about it, I should change it for something less common...I think someone in Russia is also using it >_>.

Post by: Gaatz on January 03, 2007, 03:44:59 PM
As far as I know, my screen name is entirely made up. I just wanted a short, easy to remember name that I could use for things on the internet.

The only way I think my name was influenced is from Megaman Legends 2, in which there is a character called "Gats" or something like that. But I didn't use the name to portray myself as that character. When I google Gaatz I get some town name in Germany.  ;020

Post by: NewYinzer on January 03, 2007, 04:14:21 PM
My screen name was inspired by a limited-print news paper in my birthplace. It's called the New Yinzer (obviously lampooning the New Yorker), so I thought that would be a good replacement for my old screen name, Henryproton001, which had been in use since 1999. Internet forms have required me to abbreviate it as "NewYinzer".

Jeff has his most creative moments very late at night.  Of course, ideas come when sleepy, but the refinement has to come when I'm less drowsy.
Hence I make doodles when sleepy. Hence, SleepyDoodler, and since that's a rather long name, it;s been abbreviated to SleepyD. ^^

Post by: CaptBrenden on January 14, 2007, 02:16:48 AM
Oh god... at first I thoguht you ment real nick names -_- whew im off the hook.. cus I got like 100 of them. Its the guys at works past time to come up with new nick names for people... I have picked up more then I can count in the last 5 years.

but as for my handle on here, its an old RP nick from middleschol. Very old indeed.  Its actually short for Brother Captain Brenden of the Blood Angels Legion of Astrates.  A Warhammer 40k reference.  He was the leader of my force, and I converted up a very nice mini to represent him.

anyhow.. the nick has got me into trouble a few times at work.. people thought my captbrenden email was me pretending to be a captain in the marines.. which is a big offence, but I proved that wroung.. along with proving my geekdom, to the company commander.

well mine is weird ZJHENTOHLAUEDY. i picked it up when i was registering in Neopets.. thats right NEOPETS... so much names were taken and i couldn't finish registration since there is always a double. then i saw the box of my zjentohlauedy model kit. zjentohlauedy is the big alien species in the macross or robotech series whichever you want to call it.

i started using the name to everywhere i joined to ever since

just recently i discovered that i had been spelling it wrong these past years because when i looked at the box it spelled zjentohlauedy but i have been using ZJHENTOHLAUEDY.... Damn that H!!!

Post by: CyberRamses on January 20, 2007, 03:25:08 PM
My nick was from a history that I and a friend were writing for a future manga (and it's been never launched) and the main characters were versions of ourserves. My friend character was called Rafofo Power and mine, Cyber Ramses.

Ramses (or Rameses) was also the name of a Pharaoh in ancient Egypt, the one that was raised with Moses like brothers. When Moses returned to Egypt to free the Hebrews, Ramses was already Pharaoh, and became a conflict between them.

Interesting....

I haven't had much time to work on my personal manga project.... I have tons of text documents and nothings really started.... (except character designs)

I guess I'll have to set that aside for now.  In any case, I think short 1-chapter type stories might work well for practice. ^^
Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Laevatein on January 24, 2007, 06:44:06 AM
My screenname comes from Laevateinn (with the extra N). Wiki entry:

Quote from: "Wikipedia"In Norse mythology, the elf Volund (Weyland), forged a sword (Laevateinn) so lethal that it imperiled the very gods themselves. The sword was taken from Volund and was brought to Asgard. They passed the sword into the hands of the god Freyr, who gave it to his servant Skirnir to trade the sword to the father of the Giantess Gerdr whom Freyr had fallen in love with and wished to marry. At Ragnarök, Surtr (lord of the realm of fire) wielded Freyr's sword and severed the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil with it instigate the destruction of the universe. Freyr would ultimately fall to his own blade. With it, he could have defeated Surtr and saved existence.

The sword was called Laevateinn, made its wielder invincible in battle, could fight without being held, but was of course forged for the hand of a God.

The sword was also known as the "Wounding Wand" or the "Staff of Destruction".

However, I first heard of the name in Nanoha A's, where Signum, one of the main antagonists, has a falchion called Laevatein, which is one of the more awesome magical swords I've ever seen (it actually speaks German! XD). Laevatein is also the name of a yet to be animated Arm Slave in Full Metal Panic.

Previous screen names I've used include Edgar's Parish (english translation of Parokya ni Edgar, one of the most popular pop music bands in the Philippines, two generations and counting).

Title: MisterCat
Post by: MisterCat on January 27, 2007, 02:23:39 AM
Originally, I used the name Mr. Cat when registering at web sites which required a user name.  But some years ago, I began running into registration-error messages insisting Mr. Cat was already in use ââ,¬â€ although I've yet to encounter another Mr. Cat on the web.

So I changed it to MisterCat and haven't again encountered such messages.  Anyway, back in the day there was a neighborhood cat who lived entirely out of doors and used to come visit on a daily basis; and I took to calling him Mr. Cat due to the aura of authority he radiated.

He was, in effect, Mayor of the Feline Neighborhood:  I'd occasionally see him enforcing feline laws, always to the detriment of the offending cat or cats.  On the day we moved into that neighborhood, he conducted an inspection of our premises and ââ,¬â€ having been satisfied ââ,¬â€ walked out as mysteriously and purposefully as he'd walked in.

Thereafter, he'd stop by once every day and submit to a brief petting audience; but he never saw the need to enter our home after that first inspection.  The day we moved away, he came up to me and rubbed against my leg (a sign of affection he'd not granted me before) and meowed (the only time he ever spoke to me) then went away:  It was his way of saying good-bye.

So, since I keep cats and have fond memories of my old friend from that earlier neighborhood, I chose to honor his memory by taking his (undoubtedly unofficial) name with me onto the inter-net.  All that was years ago; and although I'm not sure which of his nine lives he was living when we were neighbors, I hope it wasn't his last.

;hi

Mine is the Latin word for "truth". I took it because I've decided my life's goal is to find "the truth," even if it is impossible. I can at least try to come damn close to it, in whatever sense I can, and even if it is just my -own- personal truth.

Or, maybe I just stole it from Boondock Saints. ;D

Post by: Thurosis on February 01, 2007, 02:00:37 PM
Hmmm.... Thurosis is the name of a character from my first Manga

My first my that i drew is called "The Legend of Valukar"
I drew about 200 pages and it was a mix from "Record of Lodoss War", "Warhammer Fantasy" and a bit "Warhammer 40k" (but i never drew the story until the end)

I for the Story I used a bit from Record of Lodoss War and for the characters I used many things from Warhammer Fantasy (In the Story there is race with many high-tec things so i used the Imperial Army/Guards from W40k.) ;013

Thurosis is the name of a knight in Valukar (a nation with many magician)
but now i used the name for a puppet(maker) master( in Germany ;013) in my newest Manga (the 11th one i think) called "Showdown in Wiesbaden. I never drew/make a new design from Thurosis until now.

Title: Timely
Post by: timely on February 04, 2007, 01:58:58 PM
Hi,

My nickname is Timely.

I chose it in honor of Timely Writer, a thoroughbred
racehorse by Staff Writer out of Timely Roman. He
won the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park as a
two-year-old, defeating Before Dawn and Deputy
Minister, yet was not given an Eclipse Award. He
won the Florida Derby and Flamingo Stakes at
three, but was ill and could not run in the Triple Crown
races. He returned in fine form, winning at Saratoga.
Late in his three-year-old season he broke down in
the Jockey Club Gold Cup while taking the measure
of older handicap horses in grand form. He was humanely
destroyed, and is buried, along with Ruffian, at Belmont.

He was a gutsy little horse, and I made a few bucks
betting on him at Belmont and in Florida, so I thought
I should do something to keep his memory alive.

Cordially,

Timely

Post by: Stoy on February 15, 2007, 01:34:45 PM
My nick comes from a swedish comedy, where a guide shows a Castle for some tourists. He means to speak in english but actually it's no language at all. During the tour of the castle he says "stoy on" many times. They did supply a small dictionary so that you could read what he wanted to say.
There I found out that "stoy on" meant "look out" or "look up" (in swedish the phrase "se upp" can mean either "look out" or "look up".).
Since I had begun to get good at Unreal Tournament (the first game) I thought that it would be quite suitable to have a name that meant "look out" and at the same time looked a bit wierd.

Then I registered at a swedish forum, after a couple of posts i read about IRC and their channel there and I downloaded an IRC client, after about a week of chatting they stopped calling me "Stoy on" and just "Stoy". About 3 months later there was a getting together IRL i Stockholm and everyone called me Stoy.
Since then I have always used the nick Stoy.

That is my story.

Blue-chan, what the folks at animechains (my other forum) call me, is derived from my username, and the character in almost all of my signature pics from animechains...2000-tan. ^^

Icelilly was just a nice I randomly came up with when putting words together.

Ice- I was having water with ice in it.
Lily- A flower that was in the house at them.

My name has a extra "l" because when I little (I've had this name for a long time), I thought Lily was spelled with two l's instead of one. ^^;

I really don't have much to say about my name :(
Okay, maybe a little. It came from my old DeviantArt name, Bella Cielo, which kinda roughly translated to Italian means beautiful sky, which comes from my love of the Saturn Sky sports car, and my interest in the Italian language :D

I tried registering here with some rather long, baroque, username, but it didn't go though for some reason...being lazy I said the heck with it, and I typed in "Bella" XD

Well, my is a really odd story actually. I was playing Ragnarok online (Hence the Rag part) and I had remembered that my account play time was going to end soon (Hence the en). So I got somewhat pissed at Gravity for making RO p2p, so I decided to think of them as mules (hence the ule). I was going to make another character, and sometimes when I need a nick, I just think back to what I was thinking an hour ago up until now. I got Ragnarok, end, and mule. after working and looking at the names, I decided "Ragenule" was the best.

Post by: Siya on July 19, 2007, 10:59:55 PM
Siya comes from Marc and Siya, the name of a see-saw demon character I made a while back and role-play on a few websites.  Eventually, I made them into my artist persona for the internet.  However, since many sites don't allow for spaces or capital letters in screen names and Siya was the more capable half of the character, I dropped Marc from my title.

When I originally created the character, I thought I had made up the name Siya.  But, lately, I've been seeing other Siyas around.

Post by: Anahuyu on November 25, 2007, 10:09:01 AM
My name was born in Super Smash Brothers Melee.

I was inputing some custom names... and I like japan, so I switched to japanese characters...

It is important to note that I was recently at the Japanese Embassy.

I put in the four character and thought, hey, that looks cool... how would that be pronounced in english?

So I took out my 'Views of Japan' book, went to the two languages and wrote down the English spelling of the japanese characters, the four-letter word came out, A-na-hu-yu. Not only did it look cool, it sounded cool. I use it everywhere since then.

My Avatar is Anahuyu.EXE. I made him using a sprite from MegaMan Battle Network. The sprite's only remaining feature is his face and hair.

My sig was made from ProtoSoul unison MegaMan, wich in japan I figure is called BluesCross-RockMan, since what would be assumed as ForteSoul unison RockMan wasn't translated the same, it was call BassCross-MegaMan. It was, however, not normally accessible in the english version. So, with the _____Cross-RockMan idea in mind, I created the sprite of AnahuyuCross-RockMan. I'd put the heart in there, but My bookmark to the only site still using the heart is no longer on my computer.

Edit: Woot! I found it.

Um let's see, I derived my nick from the American Godzilla movie. When I was young, I had a fascination with American military aircraft, so when that first helicopter chase scene came up, I picked up on their codenames. I combined it with my lucky number, et voilà, Echo 8 was born.
It was only years later I learnt about its connection with Star Wars.

I also have variants where I tack ERA to the end, which I use when I can't have Echo 8 for some reason or another.

Mine nickname has a pretty long history.  This includes my obsession with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a snow cone, a story that I have never finished and a lot of super powers.  I chose to stick with the "silverfox" part of my name for two reasons though.  One, just like my real name, the color silver never goes out of style.  Two, I have the intellect and cunning of a fox.  The Omni part I'll tell if you really want to hear it.  ^^

Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: JamesBurr on July 01, 2008, 04:20:12 PM
Back when I was 16, I was playing Sonic 2 when i thought of Tails.  I wanted to make a super form character for Tails (this was before I found out about Turbo Tails).  I thought of a gray fox that was slightly older and twice as fast.  I changed the fox's nme after ordering a snow cone flavor named, 'Silverfox'.  I joined a random anime chat which gave me the chance to use the name, 'Silverfox'.  I had slowly learned to role-play and made many friends and enemies.  I got so into it and started using different powers.  The first power was super-speed, then full elemental control.  I encountered many types of RPer fighting styles in the chat, (the most common was T2).  My friend, Kayzar was by my side a well as Akina.  We all moved on from the chat room two years later (2004).  Kayzar told me about Gaia Online.  It was an anime role-playing community.  I was at the time adamant about joining, but knew it was the only choice I had.  I, Kayzar, Akina and many other members from the chat became Gaians.  Since Silverfox was taken, I made Menaiah Kayga (Silverfox when translated to english).  The name I chose two years later (2006) was, 'The Silver Fox of Omni'.  Omni was the character that helped Silverfox learn new ways to use the elements.  Silverfox is growing along with me.  Together, we learn to do great things for both worlds.  We found that the person behind the character Akina, as well as Akina herself had fallen in love with us years ago.  In this present day I am still trying to keep in touch with her.  We exchanged phone numbers after knowing each other for so long.  She loves my confidence and the way I stand up for what I believe in.  I love her empathy and many other smalls things she does.  It makes her so lovable!  <3  *Shakes his head wildly*  Oh, back to the story before I ramble any more about her.  Silverfox has been through a lot of odd situations.  Like the one concerning his daughter, Kira Kayga.  He found out that she was a failed experiment (made by R.A.D.G.E.A.R.) to clone him.  She was told to destroy him, but inherited his empathy.  She couldn't go through with it.  ((Still need time to finish))

My nickname was created 5 to 6 years ago.

Friends at school tried getting me to play runescape, so I finally tried to play it.  I was thinking about dragons at the time, and I like honorable things. So I tried putting down "Dragonofhonor," but it wouldn't let me put in the last letter in it. So I removed the "o" before the "r" and came up with "Dragonofhonr."

Sticked with that name ever since.

Mine comes from my first laptop, which I received as a Christmas gift in 2003 (It was powered by a Pentium processor with MMX technology). I don't have that laptop anymore (It died on me years ago), but it still lives on in name.

Quote from: "SgtCFoxtrot"I generally create names from military rank plus phonetic phrases.

Thus, SgtCFoxtrot is: Sergeant Charlie Foxtrot

Which is an enlisted man/woman of Sergeant Rank named after a Cluster F**k. :D

Essentially, Sergeant Bad Stuff Happenin'.

Well thats better then Sgt. Bohica.   Bend over here it comes again!

Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Blearbob on January 16, 2009, 09:02:19 PM
Heh. My name was actually chosen to differentiate from another name I picked up -- my name as an author.

I'd rather nobody else mentioned this, but I first picked up the name

Bane_Chao

Because I was a complete-and-utter Chao fanatic (I still have an awesome Chao garden to this day, SA2), and needed an author name. It even led to an icon I could make.

However, I grew out of the name (and the authorsona I gave it), so I shelved that name and turned it into a Bonus Boss . . .

Next came M. Burusu (DON'T ANYONE REVEAL THIS TO ANYONE, -PLEASE- -- it's not that I'm embarrassed at all, it's just that I like to keep names seperate). That one came up when I saw an image titled 'Burusu Neenja' -- a picture of Muramasa Blues from the Rockman.EXE manga. The 'Burusu' for 'Blues' clicked, and a shield-toting authorsona was born.

How that same authorsona ended up as being a whacko with a mane of purple hair, red eyes, a too-tight grey coat with a broach fastening it together (plus a skintight black vest underneath and a pair of pants, with spike-toed boots and black gloves to finish it off) is ANYONE'S GUESS.

Then, when I went to DeviantArt, I decided to take up a different name -- one that I wouldn't be recognized under. It soon came to pass that that would be my 'Public domain' DevID, and so I'm thinking of changing it again (because it lists the name as 'Blear', which is a persona I don in more . . . questionable sectors). That DevID was 'ObligatoryBob' (hit me up if you want to talk, but for the life of me I can't get the chat feature to work).

Next, I decided I needed a repository for my less . . . safe-for-work viewing. So, I took the name I'd used on a forum, Blear, and added 'Bob' to the end of it to make 'BlearBob'.

So yeah -- it's evolution.

uhm, choco is.....well, i love chocolate, and i used to be called "coco" back in the day. coco is a play off my real name. and even though i'm changing my name next year, i think it'll stick.
as for "freak", well, i'm a self-proclaimed freak, so there we go.

i'm not 13, i just love that number, and i've used this exact user at many a site.

my other nickname, "max", is the second half of my first name shortened. i'm keeping the second half when i change my name for this purpose. :3

some other nicknames include:
cueball, which i was called when i was a baby, since i did not get hair till i was 2. :\
julie thompson, my pseudonym.

So, instead of thinking a different one on each forum, I just decided to keep it simple and made it: "Persona"

Shame on you, Smokey, always leading new members astray, shame! XP

It's okay Vae-san, we tend not to come down on OT here unless it really gets out of hand (there seems to be an event once a month like that).  I try my best to curb it in advance if I see it coming, but even I have found myself falling into it.  A word of advice, if you engage in a convo with Smokey, it's bound to become OT at one point or another, XP.

Officially, yes... Because this discussion is about your name, wich has a direct link to your nickname and is thus a discussion of the aforementioned...[/lawyertalk]

Oh, don't get me started... i usually spell my last name directly when pople ask for it... Bemrose, what can you expect, no Dutchman can spell that if they haven't seen it...
Same goes for my first name too... Most peole here spell it the dutch way; Sebastiaan...
Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Vaereth on April 25, 2009, 05:36:19 PM
Well, if don't set stress on the letter "a" as an incorrect i would be pronounce the same way as the dutch  This name I heard only twice in my live when i watch "the little mermaid" animation. Translation was awful. Only after watching this film with original sound i found how to pronounce some worlds and names correctly. But as I sad i heard that name only twice so I have fogotten that it spells like Sebastiaan (I hope i am correct...)
And when i read your last name i thought about roses (and spell the end like english word "rose" ) ^_^
My last name contains 9 letters and is hard to spell in russian either (more over people often writes it incorrectly) I guess for Latin it will be harder to spell it...Solodovnik is not a rare surname in my country but still hard to pronounce
Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Smokey on April 25, 2009, 05:46:16 PM
Doesn't sound too hard to pronounce... ut then again, i am probably used to it, since i know/knew dutch, english, brazilian, polish, morrocan and arabian people... ^_^

And in my case it's Sebastian, although i stopped worrying about people spelling/saying Sebastiaan...

Old Maffia was a highly organised syndicate with stricter rules than the catholic church... Usually, they weren't the "gangsters" you see in movies, more (illegal) businessmen...
Heck, the Yakuza was put in charge by the Japanese government to supervise the "gray zone" businesses (like gambling and prostitution) and keep it in check... Yakuza weren't gangsters at all, they were even more like businessmen and a sort of unofficial police...
The Русская маÑ,,ия has changed in the nineties, becoming more of a big international business and adding lots of ex-KGB and ex-politicians to their ranks, but even before that they were people, with a code of honor, you could buy interesting things from and (probably) loan a few bucks from...

Well that is at least those (La Cosa Nostra, the ヤã,¯ã,¶ and the Русская маÑ,,ия) are the three crime syndicates most respected by me...
Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: Vaereth on April 27, 2009, 09:45:19 AM
It is true that The Russian Mafia has interested in politics much lately but I think with this it has lost its code of honor. May be it just seemed that it has it, but in my opinion it hasn't it at all already (But I can be wrong cuz I don't no much about any mafia organizations  )
About Yakuza, yes, I heard that they are really "gentlemen" ^_^
And about La Cosa Nostra I don't know anything so I can't comment it ;012

Title: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: amaimomo on May 02, 2009, 08:35:18 AM
Mine started as a silly thing a group of friends and I did where we picked a "food name" for everyone. Mine ended up being Peaches, which was supposed to be short for Peaches and Cream, but we never really cared enough to say any more than just Peaches. Then after I got the BRIGHT idea of making a SN in Japanese, I made up kawaiiamaimomo, partially out of boredom, partially cause I get called cute a lot, and sweet and peach seemed to fit together well. momo-san: i think it's cool! yum yum cannabalism! =D

nejin-san: eh, you probably wouldn't be alone.....you'd be messing my hair up or doing something to annoy me xD, dan would be sitting next to the fancy chair, on his laptop, playing megaman..... >_>;, donovan would be doing one of 3 things: 1. sitting with me in his lap 2. laughing at me in some way 3. helping you. , while james would be off in the corner sneering at how stupid we all are. :\

vae-san: everyone that imagines it helps keep the dream alive. :3

seamore-san: ehhh......i can't say i'd mind the dracula motif, in fact i'd probably love it. my fangs are a tad longer than most people's because they grew in weird. not to mention blood is a tasty little delacasy once in awhile..... :]

Oh i have one fang that sticks out (literally) , but that's because i had a double set of adult front teeth in my upper jaw... That plus my jaw is a bit too small to fit all my teeth, it mutated a bit due to an accident i had while i was young...

i had 3 sets of canines for awhile. my top adult set grew in OVER my baby set cause the baby set refuse to leave. thus, when the babys fell out and the adults dropped down, it left them longer than the rest of the teeth. but there is also a gap in the teeth behind them (they are in front of everyone else, thus there is gum space. :\ )

Yeah the teeth problem always was the most difficult, painful and sometimes expensive thing ;026 especially when the baby set refuse to leave or  the adult set refuse to grow

My nick is D4m4s74

It started just as D4 (my real name is Dick, which often is censored, it's 4 letters, so I changed it to D4) Usually usernames have to be at least 6 symbols, so after a while I changed it to d4masta, finally setteling on d4m4s74 (pronounced da masta).

I've used it ever since

nah, seriously, I'm dutch and in holland it's a (reasonably) normal name, it's my father's name, his father's name, his father's name, his father's name is Jan, but HIS father's name is Dick again

Online (if I have to enter my full name) I usually go by Alfred Nonymous though (pun on anonymous, I've used it since 2007 and might change my real name to it when I move to the USA)

The funny part is that we DO have relatives in italy...but I think they're from my father's mother's side, so they probably don't have that name.

Sweden isn't a small country. We have forests the size of small countries. Which, considering the amount of deforestation we've gone through, is quite amazing.

And the oldest registered forestry company is older than your nation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stora) and even the colonization of your continent by a few centuries, so there. (in case you don't get it, this makes my arguments superior to whatever you come up with)

Kumori and Arbiter.

Kumori, cos it's my middle name, and was used as the first name of one of my fan characters.

Arbiter, cos... Well, I'm a fan of Halo, and the Arbiter is just awesome. Best rank in the Covenant.

Kurt is a half troll half serious user i created on a swedish anime/manga forum a few years ago. The name kurt is a swedish name, kurt was basicly a 60 year old guy that loved accordion music. The user got banned cuz i pretended to be someone i wasn't, so i made a new user this time called kurten, that user was allowed to remain so i kinda adopted the username for future using ^_^ AMD, self explanitory, it describes my love for AMD processors.

Post by: Pitkin on February 20, 2011, 03:48:15 PM
Wanted to give this thread a new life since I think it's always interesting to know where people get their online nicknames from. ^^

My own post was originally on the very first page, and the story's of course the same. I might just add that I don't really use Pitkin as my nickname anywhere else anymore, but instead I'm often using Chinkle (like in IRC channels), some twist of my real name or some site's-theme-related nickname. I guess one of the reasons for this change is that I was totally away from forums for a long time and somehow wanted to distance myself from sites that I used to post in a lot back in time.

edit: Oh yes, the reason why I remembered this thread was because I was listening to the radio play that I got the name Pitkin from while being on the forum. ^.^

Fun necropost~~~~

Mine is a shortening of BellaCielo (my dA handle), which is a rough Italian translation of "beautiful sky". Probably influenced by my habit of skywatching and an obsession with a certain Saturn roadster. Since the advent of Twilight and the permanent ruining of the name, I tend to prefer Bells or Borya or whatever creative nickname others can come up with .w.

My nickname irl and sometimes online is only one of many; TChan
Other variations include:
Tchandaman
Chaninator
Chanster
NotoriousT
T
Chan
TomChan
and the list go's on and on and on.

I got the Nickname "Kraus" or "Dr. Kraus" from a percussion warm-up which I was the best at named "Kraus I" and "Kraus II" (Two separate parts that made a full song/warm-up). I was the only Freshmen that could play both parts proficiently (I didn't play them at the same time like they were supposed to be played because there is no physical way to play 32nd notes in different rhythms at the same time with only 2 or 4 mallets.)

So thats how I got my nickname(s) got created and I tend to gather more as I make my way through life (Chodebuster is one I've recently been given ._.;

Choco = love of chocolate
freak = compliment
13 = favourite number

Chocofreak13. had this online handle for about 6 years now. i have also gone by Kari'sAngel3777, back in the archaic times of dial up. =v=;;

irl, i usually go by kari, but i've also been called choco (self-explanitory), sempai (from my kohais in high school =w=), mama (same source .__.; ), and max (short for maxine, my second name).

among some of my brothers (especially ben) i'm known as "sis". :3

My post is the same, and it's there in the back somewhere...

As there's no reasonably accurate translation of "Overlord" to swedish however, my most used nickname is, simply, The King (Kungen). Alternately, King Vasa for when I'm out skiing, for obvious reasons.

Title: Re: What is the origin of your nickname?
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 22, 2011, 09:39:06 AM
The House of Vasa is the founding royal house of Sweden's modern dynasties (1500s->present), from Gustav I Vasa who defeated the danes and unified teh land. The House itself is extinct, but the current Royal house of Bernadotte had its bloodline unified with a maternal descendant of the Royal swedish line of the House of Holstein-Gottorp, which previously had been maternally unified with the House of Vasa. Ergo, the blood of the founding king lives on.

As for the reference, it's a perk to the "Vasaloppet", which is the 90-kilometer ski marathon I'm off to this sunday...which Gustav himself did while fleeing from the danes throughout Sweden, back in the day when he was raising the rebellion.

All this overlord-ing gives me strong Royalist tendencies, it seems _>_

There was a ship named Regalship Vasa as well, which was huge and sunk on its maiden voyage. -w-;

Old thread,
AWAKEN

I don't remember if I ever posted here...

I picked svx because... every cool name is taken. Everywhere.
But I usually go by svxs since most interwebs sites require 4+ letters

svx = similar to a Subaru WRX? Yeah, we'll go with that :p

I also go by omen on Quakeworld (or "target" to mix things up)

and 結弦 elsewhere (spelled yui tsuru, e.g. Yuzuru)
But that's not my name :p

Hm... nicknames I've had over the years? I've been called Pennies, Pookums, Princess, Plastic Pony (PP)...  and some variations upon my first name that tend to make me RAGE-FILLED.

Online I tend to go by Bella or Bell/s/z/zors, Borya or Labs. The popularity of Twilight makes me considerably more fond of the variations on my username than the original, though. -w-

@Chocofreak: Why Heather? Was it just some random high school meme or was there a reason? x)

I haven't really had any nicknames IRL before, nice or neutral ones at least. If one considers all the less nice ones, then I guess I've got lots from my middle school bullies (not that my nicknames for them were any better). xP The reason for lack of nicknames is maybe my first name, which is very short and very common as a nickname on its own already, while being less common as given name in Finland. It's a very common name in Eastern Europe and Latin countries, however.

Fedora-Tan and Remilia've given me a couple of nicknames in the recent couple of years, but they're... secret. >.>

And she refuses to wear ribbons/hairpins/etc in her hair.
And all she does is nag!
And whine!

However... She is fiesty...

She could be the, eh... like...
Have you ever seen the movie Salt? With Laura Croft? I mean, Anjelina Jolie?

if you weren't in europe, i'd scold you for being so volunteering with info.

on a semi-related note (and because i don't know what else to post), you can come up with awesome fantasy names if you spell a word backward. for example, in 7th grade or so, i wrote 1 chapter of a fantasy book called "oratmah" (the main character's name, "hamtaro" backwards).
