Title: Commodore 64-tan & Commodore PET-tan
Post by: C-Chan on August 06, 2006, 10:56:06 PM
Thanks to the motivation of a good friend of ours, I managed to churn out these preconcept chibis rather quickly.  (This'll help me a load for my 3rd pic -- that way, I'll know how to draw their full-body versions...  ^^)

Sorry if I have to post-and-run as usual, but I'll write a little more about them later.

For now, please give a warm welcome to the famous Commodore 64-tan and her sister Commodore PET-tan:

<<<NOTE: PICTURE MOVED TO Annex (http://ostan.blackdiam.net/viewtopic.php?t=231)>>>

Just two quick factoids:

As previously mentioned, C64-tan is one of the few vintage OS-tans that has successfully kept up with the times, not just in hardware and software,  but also in games and fads.  So if that thing on her forehead looks suspiciously like a Naruto-thingie, you're not imaging things.  In addition, she's carrying in her hand a Commodore PMC-30, one of the many woeful attempts by the current owner of the Commodore name to cash in on the nostalgia factor.

The turtle-like triangle thing that PET-tan is carrying is called "KameLOGO" and is sort of the mascot of the Binteji Renmei.  Anyone who's used the OOOOOOOOOOOOOLD version of LOGO (or just LOGO at all) might know what it is.  ^__^

Very good artwork, C-Chan! I like the addition of the Terrapin LOGO. To quote the marketing campaign for the Commodore 64:

"I adore my 64, my Commodore 64!"

Can't wait to see their non-Chibi forms!

Thank you, NewYinzer!  ^.^

I see you're a man of the cloth.... those who remember LOGO (or at least in the simple triangle form and not the VGA turtle) are becoming rare breed.

Oh, and just so the sister doesn't feel left out....  ^_-

"I adore my PET, my Commodore PET!"  ^v^

Their non-chibi forms probably won't show up until about a month from now, but I'll try to make sure it won't extend beyond that.  ^-^

Yaaaay! My beloved C64-tan has made her debut, and she's wonderful! ^___^

Welcome Commodore 64-tan, welcome Commodore PET-tan! You were long missed! ^_^ Finally I can find myself in the 'faction' I truly feel I belong to.

Great work! ^o^

I guess I'm too young to understand the importance of Commodore ._.

guess I'll have to surf Wikipedia a few more hours

...
Cute, they're cute. I like them.
No [chibi] "anatomy" problems (even for a chibi, sometimes there can be something wrong).

You know not about the legendary C64?!  The most widely-purchased computer in history and the one that brought that abusive arcade game industry to its knees?!!  ^o^

The one computer which (with some help from Apple II) provided the first true convenient home computing experience to the masses?!  One of the many noble pioneers that paved the way for your 3v1l,... *sweatdrops* er, um, I mean LOVABLE line of Windows operating systems.....?!  ^___^;

By GAWD, man...!!

Mmmmmmm-hmmmmmmmm,... nope, you've just gotta do the Wiki now.
Come on,... *clap clap*... Do the Wiki.... ^V^

Wow, that was some quick Wiki.... ^__^

Thank you, Darknight!  I'm glad you like them!  ^__^
I'm kinda partial to PET-chan myself -- must be the vintage uniform (too bad KameLOGO's blocking most of it, but the full-sized pic should reveal a little more).

Chibis can have anatomy problems?  '__';
Wow, I always thought they were sort of "free-for-all".  That's why I use them for concept art.  ^__^

As a bit of self-criticism, I had a little concern that the shape of C64-tan's uniform and camera angle made the her neck look a little long.  But as long as the overall image is good enough to mask imperfections here and there (henceforth called "bloopers"), it conforms to my prior cost-benefit analysis.

Aaaaaaaah,... Cheap Art....
If only I'd 'ave known you a few years earlier.....  Ã,¯vÃ,¯

No, I didn't knew about it (well, I heard the name before). The first OS I ever used was  Windows 95 (at that time I also had the oportunity to use a bit of Win3.1 in my mom's office, but not for a lot as they were being replaced by Win95, back in 1995...). At that time, 1Gb of HDD was a lot for me

And a 2400 baud modem was SCREAMING FAST!!!  ^V^
(Certainly in the heyday of C64, a 2400 baud connection would be like today's equivalent of a T3!)

Yeaaaaaaaaah,... I remember those days....

*siiiiiiigh*  -v-

"So different are the colors of life,
As we look forward to the future,
Or backward to the past;
And so different the opinions,
And sentiments which this contrariety of appearance naturally produces,
That the conversation of the old and young ends generally,
With contempt,
Or pity on either side.....
 -v-

--Samuel Johnson  ^^'

Funny how my real first computer was an old 486 running 3.1-tan, and after many years I jumped straight to 98-tan.  Prior to that, apart from a slew of game consoles, the only "computers" I used (but didn't own) were a Brothers word processor and an ANCIENT Atari 8-bit.  (I will make an AtariDOS-tan to commemorate her.... ^.^)

Wow, the nostalgia is just,... too much to handle for an old pig like me.....  ;^.^;

Wow...I started almost the same way. My mother introduced me to computers in 1991, with her 486 running Win3.0. I would get my own computer in 1995, which ran (obviously) Windows 95. I have a lot of great memories of that computer. However, it was quickly outdated, and thus was upgraded. By 2002, it was running Windows XP Home, but was still a poor performer. I got a new one in 2002, when it was impossible to upgrade the old one. It now resides in a box in my attic, nothing but a motherboard without a processor (the final upgrade was retracted and the chip was sold back).

lol, looks like I'm not the only young one who started with not-so-old OS'es (Compared against Commodore, Unix, OS/2 etc...).
I upgraded from a Windows 95 to a Windows ME  (HP pavillion) back in 2000. A great leap forward, considering that it had 40GB HDD, Pentium III @ 800 mhz and 64Mb RAM(lol, the next month after I bought it, they started releasing  1Ghz procesors). Amazingly, WinME didn't caused me a lot of troubles (well...maybe that ocasion in wich I lost all the saved games I had in a game [Comanche Gold, combat helicopter simulator]...sniff...and I was just about to finish that game). That same comp was upgraded in 2003 (Pentium 4 @ 1.8GHZ, 256 RAM, the same HDD. New OS: Windows XP Pro). Never gave any problems. And now, the last year I bought (more like my parents...) a Gateway: Windows XP Home Edition, 1GB RAM, 200 GB HDD and Pentium 4 HT @ 3 ghz.
:D long story

Young'uns!  Young'uns all over the place!  ^0^
No wonder you guys are such Windows aficionados -- you grew up in the thick of $oft's monopoly.  ^-^
Hehehe....  ^w^

Admittedly, I do have memories of my old 3.1-tan machine.  Even with its meager specs (certainly no... DEAR GAWDS!!!  @o@.... 3ghz processor), it still managed to run everything I needed (from a very primitive AOL,... *shudders*,... to my copy of TIE FIghter CD, second best sci-fi flight sim, bested only by its successor Xwing Alliance).

I never really made it a habit to upgrade any of my machines (at least not to NewYinzer's extent), but that might change now that I've grown more "piecemeal" over the years.  Certainly with enough computers to spare, I might eventually fulfill my dream of building a Beowulf cluster, and getting all my OS-tans working together in [theoretically] perfect harmony.  ^__^

Ooh,.......
And Darknight, by implication you said they're "old".....  Ã,¬__Ã,¬
Since they can't speak for themselves at this time, I'll do it for them.  ^__^

Commodore 64:  Yeah, she's old.  Ã,¬vÃ,¬
But at least she ain't licked yet!  ^__^
Heck, nowadays you can equip her with an ethernet adapter, a hard drive, flash drive capabilities, USB adapters, extra memory, a CD-rom drive, mice, MP3 players, etc....
Those talented enthusiasts have a devotion that goes back over twenty years.
*inhales*  Now that's what I call a love worthy of admiration.  ^___^

UNIX:  Hooooo-yeah, she's old....

Very old,....

Exceedingly old.....

Ancient....

Monolithic.....

Dinosauric......

She used to keep trilobites as pets.....

And who's to say that as a child, she didn't accidently create the primordial ooze...?

Hence..............

...

That's "UNIX-SAMA", not "UNIX"!!!!!  ;^0^;

BOW and GROVEL in forgiveness for the disrespect, foolish young 95-tan!!

*whip lash*

Come on grovel....!

..............Grovel louder!!!!  ;^0^;

OS/2:  Fufufufu....  ^.^
Maybe she's a tad older than 3.1-tan, but I can see how she might take offense coming from you (a 95-tan).  ^___^

My advice: relish her absence as much as you can now, because she's up next as a chibi.  `v'

And if you're already well-versed in the history of the Windows-OS/2 project, I needn't tell you that she harbors a bloodthirsty loathing for all Windows-tans!  ^^;

By comparison, it makes Mac-tan's petty little vendatta against you guys feel like a cuddly chinchilla.  ^___^;

Well, as 95-tan "Spokesman", all I have to say is:
Finally! a worthy opponent for the mighty 95-tan

...
Oh well, about my Microsoft affiliation...well...I'll just say that I use their software, and I like it (except, of course, IE). However, that doesn't change the fact that I have been thinking of trying other OS'es [Linux] and---hey, whats that sound?

With more and more of each passing day, I think you're right.  ^__^
It would certainly allow me the chance to set a realistic "Chibi per Week" goal.

The only downside is that my 3rd pic will be delayed further, a shame considering how cool I want it to be.  Still, the concept is a bit [dangerously] over-ambitious -- at the very least, having a preconcept chibi for all 20+ characters that will appear might cut downtime considerably.

'Kay, thank you Darknight!  It's settled!  ^v^
I hereby institute an official 'Chibi per Week' program!  ^-^

OS/2-tan is up next!

Then RISC-tan!

Apple II-tan!

PC-DOS-tan!

Windows 2.0-tan!

DR-DOS-tan!

Ask and ye SHALL receive!  ^__^

http://ostan.blackdiam.net/viewtopic.php?t=197

DR-DOS it is too!  ^.^

Even though she and many of the other x86 DOS-tans now belong to the Binteji Renmei ("Vintage Federation") faction, they frequently come together with their fellows abroad and temporarily unite under a different faction called "The DOSSE"  (think "posse").  In fact, it's in my 3rd pic that I had planned showing all members at once, but I suppose they'll be introduced slowly but surely as chibis.  ^___^

If your interested, here's the current member list:

DR-DOS-tan (oldest, official leader)
MS-DOS-tan (richest)
PC-DOS-tan (most pragmatic)
QDOS-tan (handiest)
DOS/V-tan (most mysterious)
ROM-DOS-tan (inventive)
PTS-DOS-tan (Russian)
FreeDOS-tan (friendliest)
BASH (not an x86 DOS nor an OS-tan, but tags along once in a while)

There's also a mysterious benefactor that provides the group with a small stipend, but she's not "mysterious" for nothing.  ^__^

Still no clear idea what this faction is supposed to do, but it's somewhere in that shaky middle-ground between a benevolent club and a mischievous gang.
