I feel like a crotchety old anime fan because nothing ever jumps out at me on these lists.

eh, that's because the quality has also taken a dive. most of the stuff on there doesn't interest me either (or only marginally interests me, as evidenced by those picks with question marks), so as a result i'm probably only going to actively follow the 4 in bold (and one of them's an OVA, sooo....)

as it is i haven't even caught up on Space Dandy or SAO seasons 2 so while i bolded those, their priority isn't as high as, say, my volunteer gigs or trying not to die.

More and more generic harem animes  or sth shit,why dont they feel tired of those?However, i think UBW and MIGI is expectable.

TBH I usually give -500 fucks about hot new anime; only one I actually followed ever as it was airing was Kill la Kill. My reasoning is that why would I jump on board for Hoshi No Harem Desu when I've yet to watch classics like Samurai Champloo?

if you're wondering what he said, he's basically saying, why waste time on the flavour-of-the-week harem series when there's actually GOOD, classic stuff to watch, such as Samurai Champloo, Trigun, etc etc?

i've been less and less thrilled with new anime in recent years due to the rise in harem series (well, they were pretty popular during the 00's, but that's mostly because the volume of new stuff was lower). at least they're not trying to hide it behind cutesy, innocent facades or SEEMINGLY good plots this time. >>;

It's good to know I'm not just being overly-critical.

And I couldn't have said it better myself, there are lots of classic anime (or well-received newer series, like Kill La Kill) I still have to watch/catch up on. Why would I watch the newer junk when I could actually pursue something good?

There's a simple reason to that, actually.
"Junk" or not, fact is if you make it a habit to every week tune in and watch at least one new episode of one new anime, you create a habit. This means you'll be more likely to actually get your ass out of the TV sofa and get to watching those classic shows you "want to watch", just because you've made a habit of actually watching stuff.

Akamatsu predicted this... the death of anime as we know it.  It was never his fault...

Wednesday is 'Get on the desktop and watch Rail Wars' Day, and my season picks areeeee:

-Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de: Is this a second season to something secretly awful?
-Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Why the hell not

Quote from: This ShitAn anime adaptation of the mobile game "Girlfriend (Kari)", a game where the player has a girlfriend, has been announced.
You know what.  Never.  Mind.

Indeed :\
Makes me sad that the joke list was just a joke; as I'm sure Yatsuba, Pirate Gundam, and Cowboy Bebop Season 2 would be infinitely better than anything coming out now ;_;

Adaptations of games that aren't GOOD VN's (like Steins;) or similarly adaptable story works are part of the cancer that's killing anime. Not to mention all the "HURR WE HAVE MONEY LET'S MAKE AN ANIME FOR OUR CARD GAME/TOYS/FUCKING SUPER SONICO", that's just pure and unadulterated shit.

Ah yes, the dreaded Hasbro Syndrome.

At least we still have Gainax, Trigger and SHAFT to count on ......... maybe?

MadHouse is helping, too. for some reason it's like they CAN'T put out crap.

Hasbro Syndrome is one of the big reasons i've been getting less and less incensed with anime these days, though. they will make an anime based off anything (LITERALLY ANYTHING) (http://www.themarysue.com/sega-magical-girl-anime/) and while SOME of it sounds cool (Busou Shinki, Black Rock Shooter?), most of it just turns out to be crap (Hatoful Boyfriend: The Animation).

thankfully there are still tons of unknown series from past years to watch, such as Kurenai, Kaiba and Crystal Blaze.

Wait wait wait...Sega's basically just remaking Hyperdimension Neptunia? Even though they had a hand in that project? (I mean Neptune herself from that series is an official -tan for the unreleased Sega Neptune :\ )

To be honest, my attention towards the next season is centered on sequels (of Log Horizon, Chaika and WIXOSS), but knowing myself, I will end up trying to pick something way out of my common interests, which may or may not end up actually decent.

Heh, yeah, I ended up drifting back here.

Anyways, just as I tend to to pick up something out of my comfort zone and liking it, I am also prone to pick stuff up based on its visuals then realizing it's not as hot stuff as it looked first, even when the genre listing is an obvious sign that I am less likely to enjoy them, haha.

whenever i pick a new series, i go solely on the synopsis. if it sounds interesting and engaging, i could care less about all other factors (and even if the voices/music/physics suck, it's an opportunity to make fun of them). the thing that irks me is when there's a series that looks AMAZING on the outside, but as soon as you open the wrapper it's nothing but tits. ><;

Oh yeah, I know that feel. Sometimes they manage to hide the lacking plot in decent-sounding description, but then you realize after a few episodes that it doesn't exactly meet your expectations, in which case you either drop the show or keep up till the end. Earlier, I was more prone to giving up on stuff, but nowadays I have that feel that maybe it gets better after a point (most of the time, it doesn't).

I feel it's always a good thing to look at the voice actors and the studio, if only to know how much hype to throw at something.

I only investigate a series after I hear critical feedback, or a friend with good taste in anime recommends it.

It does suck when something sounds good in premise / art style and then turns out to be crap, though. :|

typically after i download a series, i keep it, even if it's utter crap. it's a rare day i delete anime (and it has to be REALLY bad.....i mean, i've held onto I My Me! Strawberry Eggs, and that show doesn't even deserve to be called entertainment). the one exception is Kingdom, which was a combination of 1. weird art style (it was something between traditional and poorly-done CG made to look like traditional), 2. lack of interest in the plot (if it were shorter, i would have tackled it, which leads us to), 3. length (it's something like....77 episodes, and possibly still going?), and 4. the subs i had were done by hadena, and i cleared it out in the purge.

@nej: sometimes this can be a bad thing for me, though, as i'm liable to latch onto anything Madhouse produces even if it only marginally interests me. :I

I tend to hold onto my anime as well even if it's not something I'm a huge fan of, which is why I try to be careful when it comes to downloading series in the first place...

To be honest, studio or voice actors are less of a deciding point to me. If I find familiar voices or stuff in the shows I end up watching, that can be a plus, alright, but not a decisive factor.

I am also not the kind of person who actually keeps the watched shows for some reason. Probably part of this is because I tend to pick up a large amount of shows in each season (even if some of the ends up dropped somewhere) and that would pile up fast, even though I usually go with shorter series (yes, going with shorter stuff can lead to "if only there would be more of this show, I enjoyed it a lot..."). My picks are also sometimes random in hope of finding a hidden gem, needless to say that's rather ineffective, but can work sometimes.
