Title: What phone/smart device are you using?
Post by: DustiiWolf on January 20, 2014, 08:29:09 PM
Seeing as there's a thread for computers/OSes, and one for games, but none for mobile devices (PDA, Smartphone, Smart Player, etc...), i figured id start one. Hope no one minds. Figured mobile phone stuff should fall under its own topic.

Having to reset my Nokia. The storage issue is becoming too much. Microsoft needs to make Disk Cleanup for windows phone. My thumbnail cache ate my remaining 160MB and forced the reset upon me (aka: i had no other choice at that point). GDR2 & GDR3 updates supposedly "fixed" this, but clearly not. Being able to clear old system updates and the thumbnail cache (among other unused/outdated/expendable system files) would be an enormous help... It's like sometimes Microsoft forgets the Windows in Windows Phone.

My phone is this really crappy Motorola flip phone that barely gets a signal anywhere in town; I can be in the middle of the woods and have a perfect 5-bar signal, but no service at all, or really poor service (Like, 1 to 2 bars) when I'm on the end of town where everything is located (Wal-Mart, library, both of my current jobs, my previous job, etc.)

I plan to upgrade, but it boils down to the phone I want (Samsung Galaxy Centura) being $100 :\

I'd recommend the Lumia 520 or 521, (which are $50 - $80 depending where you shop) but I doubt WP is your cup of tea. :\

my peripherals consist of the following:

GothTouch (GT):
Iphone 4
32gb
Black (Hello Kitty Case)
Replacement Screen, bought second-hand from my sister

GothPod:
Ipod Nano 4th Gen
8gb
Black
bought at Costco for $50 less than I would have paid in store; about 6 months before the 5th gen came out -w-;

GothPhone
LG 420G (small prepaid flip phone)
Black with custom ringtones, wallpaper, and 6 cell phone charms
graduation present from an ass I no longer talk to

GothDrive
Seagate External Drive
2tb
Black
given to me as a gift after my sister got fed up with it

GothCam
Sony Cybershot 12.1 megapixel Digital Camera
Black
Christmas present years ago; with GT around I scarcely use it anymore

FlashGoth I & II
twin PNY 4gb SwitchDrives (Switchblade-style Flash Drives)
Blue
I is no longer operational

FlashGoth III
Missing; presumed dead

FlashGoth IV
4gb HP locking SwitchDrive (the PNYs activate by pressing a button; this one you actually have to pull out and turn around which is a bit of a bitch)
Black and Purple

FlashGoth V & VI
twin 8gb Sandisk PopDrives (pop and fold over to access)
Red and Blue respectively

Dalek Sec
8gb PNY Attaché Flash Drive
Black
was named by an old college friend; I've considered renaming it to match but I don't see my college friends anymore so I doubt I will

I'm not counting portable consoles as peripherals here, nor am I counting my tablet.

@Dustii: I don't mind Windows Phone, but IDK if StraightTalk or Verizon offers that phone; otherwise I might consider to save myself some money.

As for naming of devices and phones, I might as well share mine:

Names, dood: ShowHide
- Flonne (Samsung generic smart phone for StraightTalk
I blew $80 on this smartphone, and TBH it was shit. First off, it didn't even run a brand name OS (Some funky in-house OS that nobody supports), the touch screen was often unresponsive, the clock had a tendency to reset itself to December 31, 1999 for no reason (Which screws up some other features), and worst of all, the ability to send and receive text messages, as well as make calls, was nonfunctional after 2 months for unknown reasons, even if I took very good care of it. It was ultimately replaced, as I swore the next smartphone would run Android or some other major OS.

- Flonne II (Motorola flip-phone for StraightTalk)
This "dumbphone", as I lovingly call it, was bought in a rush because the original Flonne died, and I had job applications out, so I needed something. It's survived roughly 3 years, although due to changes in cell phone towers in my area, I barely get a signal on the populated end of town (You have to be on Verizon or Cellular One to get reception there; which thankfully, StraightTalk does offer phones that operate on Verizon's towers). Looking into a replacement eventually.

- Triforce 1 (512MB flash drive - missing)
Bought this and Triforce 2 at the same time (Wal-Mart had them on clearance for $2.50, at a time when a 1GB flash drive cost $20+, so I scooped up a pair). This one, sadly, went missing

- Triforce 2 (512MB flash drive)
This one I still have, but I don't do much with it anymore.

- Triforce 3 (4GB flash drive)
This was, for a time, the biggest flash drive I had. I used this to migrate my bookmarks, pictures, and whatnot from my sister's old laptop (Just before she moved out) to Frankenstein V3, and for a time this was a LiveUSB for Linux Mint. Now, it's storage for my games from GOG -w-

- Midnight (8GB flash drive)
This was bought on sale at Office Depot. I mostly use it to carry important documents with me (My resume, a list of job references, the guide for EarthBound, the core book for Maid RPG, a digital copy of the Changeling 2nd Edition core book, etc.)

- ME-tan (8GB flash drive)
This one was bought on a whim due to how cheap it was, and I needed some extra space to move anime between 2k-tan and Asagi. Also, it's just the right size to hide in my bra when in trap mode, without it feeling uncomfortable >w>;

- Subspace (16GB flash drive)
My monster of a flash drive; most commonly used to move entire anime series to and from Asagi and 2k, or to carry a lot of videos with me to somewhere (Going to the resort? Have the new episode of AT4W with me, along with a couple of episodes of Soul Eater and whatever else I want to bring -w-)

- Torchwood Three (2k-tan the Desktop's 1TB external drive)
Because I went the route of reusing TARDIS' old 80GB internal drive for 2k's main boot drive, I bought a 1TB external to load most of my documents on. It's almost full between all my pictures, misc. downloads, and lots and lots of anime -w-;

- Absolution (1TB portable external drive)
Bought just before my trip to visit Kari in 2012, this drive carries my anime (As for the name, obvious Toonami reference is obvious). Usually she and I bounce it back and forth between each other to share the anime we've downloaded; at the moment, it's in her hands (Which came in handy when she lost a large chunk of her anime collection; as roughly 80% of it was on this drive -w-)

- Koromaru (Fuuka the Mac Mini's 1TB external drive)
When I still had Fuuka hooked up to my TV, Koromaru served as a mirror of Absolution; using a 1TB drive intended for Kari's laptop, Loly, but ended up being slightly too tall; leading to it becoming an external drive by way of an enclosure. I've considered reformatting it to put it in a more universal format; as it stands, only Fuuka and Sara can modify its contents (Possibly Sonata as well, but I haven't tested with her), while Asagi can only read from it, and the rest of the fleet just stares at it trying to figure out what format this thing is in -w-;;

My phone is a Nokia Lumia 520, and it runs Windows Phone 8.
It's a great phone, it being rather cheap, but I have a few problems with it;

It doesn't have a front-facing camera.
The storage space is only 8GB.
Battery runs out rather quickly.

The screen cracked on Sunday, so it's next to useless now  :'(

WPOS is nice, but it barely has any applications/games because it's not open-source. Security is pretty damn high too, meaning it's not as customizable as the likes of Google Android.

also,
@Leaf: ShowHide

WP8 is like a middle ground. It's more customizable than iOS, but more secure than android. As far as Apps, go third party bro. There's tons of apps that fill in the gaps of official apps by third parties. And even though the OS is not "open source", anyone can create an app (Visual Studio Express is free), and even with Google there is a fee to publish to the store. Open source has nothing really to do with apps as much as adoption by OEMs.

I own the variant of your phone, the 521 for Tmobile. The battery I'm surprised you say drains quickly, since mine lasts all day (unless I play games alot or use lots of data). It does suck lacking a front facing camera and the 8GB memory is plagued by enlarged "other" storage that MS still hasn't fixed completely. But it IS a budget device.

And my digitizer is cracked but it works just fine. Is it the glass part that cracked, or the actual screen?

I'm wanting a Lumia 1320. I'm not big on phablets but the 1320 sold me.

smartphone cracks are a tricky thing.....you can have a tiny crack and the phone becomes useless, or you can have what happened to me, where the spidercracks are so bad that touching it results in glass shards in your finger, yet the phone still works fine.

also, GT is my iphone, GP is my ipod. GT's screen is fucked up, so I need to buy a replacement, but otherwise he's fine. GP is beginning to have serious whitescreen issues where it seems that she is on her way out. (*sniffle*)

Now?

For a whitescreen on an iPod Nano, turn the hold switch off then hold the menu and center button down together for about 10 seconds. It should show the Apple boot screen and be fixed when it works. Sometimes you'll need to do it more than once, though.

She's already tried that multiple times, so is there some other fix; like maybe if she reflashes the firmware via iTunes?

You could always delete everything on it by formatting it and then restoring it, yeah.

Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 23, 2014, 12:10:35 PM
already tried that. restored and synced with Loly. still doing it.

funny thing is, sometimes it'll work, then get the whitescreen, but still be able to play music. sometimes it comes back from that, sometimes it has another seizure.

@Kari: That sucks :[
As for pricing, a 5th gen 16GB will cost $53.99, while an 8GB from the same gen will be $44.99. These being the "scratch & scuff" pricing (They're used, but still guaranteed to work and cheaper than the prettier used ones. For the record, my sister's iPod Classic is a scratch & scuff, but all the wear is on the backside), before sales tax and my discount (Which IDK if my discount works on iPods. I'll ask tomorrow night, but I think it works for everything except gift cards and new consoles)

90% of what I do on my iphone now is games. xD;

in the past, I've also used it for a fitness app, language apps, convention schedules and an alarm clock. other stuff too, such as cute anime boys whispering sweet nothings into my ear.

May as well bite...

Cell phone is an old Motorola Droid, with a slide-out keyboard. I haven't named it, but the notification sound is the MMPR communicator beep.

The only other devices I have are my unnamed 8GB Creative ZEN MP3 player that I've had for years and that has an XP-tan wallpaper, and my DSs, which are named.

Well, the first one isn't really a 'smart' device, but here goes:

Minamimoto, my black DS Lite. The name mostly is because when saving your game in The World Ends With You, the DS system's name is displayed, and I had managed to get the rank 'Composer'. I thought it would be nice to give that zetta-crazy genius what he wanted.  It stopped working about a year ago, but inexplicably started working again after sitting a few months.

Forte.EXE, my Pokémon Black special edition DSi.  Named after one of the best characters, and best villains, from the Rockman.EXE/Megaman Battle Network games and anime. This name was mostly because I named the first system after a villain.

Asakura, my black 3DS.  Named after my favorite character from Haruhi. If anyone cares, my friend code is 4554-0482-1721.

I have this cheap Chinese Android tablet my Gran got me for my 13th birthday. Used it for literally a few hours on the day, and the operating system got brick'd.

Still have it, still works, but it won't boot, and gives me this error telling me I have to restore it from ext. storage (micro SD).

Since I got it, it just sat on my shelf, collecting dust. Now I'm working on restoring it. I still have a shred of faith in it.

Ah... pre-ICS android knockoffs... i had a "maylong" 7" tablet once. *shudders* Sent the stylus through the screen, uber pissed at it. Thos 2.2 tabs all were mass produced and marketed by different brands. They all looked the same, only difference being custom firmware (to avoid easily rooting the suckers and, idk, making them useful)

Cheapo tabs have improved though since ICS. My 9y.o. brother got a tablet for his birthday. $60. Worked great till he somehow corrupted the memory, requiring a reset (i also think he got syrup on it)

Who here has been keeping up with *Cortana lately in the tech news?
*The Assistant, Not the Halo Character

I'm personally excited. Everything I've read or seemingly paints a picture of an assistant with more contextual awareness than Now, and a personality like Siri, with it being a core experience at the heart of a device, instead of just a voice you talk to.

It looks like Microsoft may actually of been smart to take their time in (re)joining the Mobile Assistant game...

Note that in the UK, the phone is called the Orange San Fransisco (Orange is a phone network which has since merged with T-Mobile to create EE).

Here is what it sorta looks like (obvs not my photo):

Never heard of US Cellular before. I think they're tied into Cellular One?
(All I know is that anything that isn't Verizon or Cell One in my area gets godawful signal :\ )

As I understand it, US Cellular is based in Illinois and active mostly on the east coast and midwest; I always thought it was a small company too, but it's supposedly the fifth largest cell provider in the US.

wait, people, you haven't heard of US Cellular? i see their commercials all the time.
well, not as frequently as the big 4, but enough for me to remember details such as logo and spokeslady.

i think they DO have something to do with Cellular One, either that was their previous name or is an alternate brand or something.

Cool :3

Also, I looked it up; they seem to be two different companies. US Cellular isn't even available in this area; all I see ads for are the big 4 and TracFone (Including StraightTalk and Net10), and of the big 4, only Verizon is worth having in this area; they and Cell One have forced AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile out of this area :\

So I decided to splurge and upgrade my phone, since my current one gets terrible signal in the populated end of town and I honestly fell in love with the Galaxy S3 when I activated one for a customer. Although a bit overkill, I consider this a business expense; since having a phone with good reception is a a must.

In my case, the evolution went like this:

1: Motorolla bar phone (Bought with birthday money for $10 circa '07. A tank that I could text with faster than any other phone I've had)
2: LG flip phone (Christmas gift from mom circa 2009. Tolerated it)
3: Flonne I [Samsung generic smartphone] (Bought in 2011. Didn't run Android; instead, some funky "Samsung OS" that was basically unsupported. Died after a month)
4: Flonne II [Motorolla flip phone] (Bought in 2011 because I was in a bind and needed the cheapest thing StraighTalk offered. About to retire it after 3 years of use)
5: Flonne III [Samsung Galaxy S3] (Bought earlier today. Really like it so far; playing around with it via wifi :3)

1. GothPhone I (hand-me-down red motorola brick that i was the 3rd owner of; eventually went to my mother as the 4th hand-me-down and she used it until we forced her to upgrade since the buttons were failing. the damn thing has service under that number till something like 2063. )
2. GothPhone II (current cellphone, present from ex-friend for high school graduation in 10'. no intent to upgrade. LG flip phone.)
3. GothTouch (iphone, used for functions other than phone functions)

congrats on the new phone, pent. if i see a shiny phone case the next time i'm in chinatown, i'll snag it for you. ^^

My first phone was a blue Sony Ericson that looked just like this:

My grandmother gave it to me/us when out family moved to NH for my mom's medical treatment, so we could keep in touch and stuff. It was from Cingular Wireless, just before it was bought out by AT&T. We had some sort of shared/family plan and I was on it constantly.

Funny story, between the two of us we ran up a 900-some dollar phone bill one month. I about fainted when I heard the news. Got rid of the phone shortly thereafter; I don't think my grandma ever paid the bill, because she's the sort who'll run out on bills if they get too high. (Bless her ethically-challenged heart.)

She was really cool until she wasn't. It's a long story that's not appropriate here but it involves betrayal, theft of huge amounts of money and ended with being disowned by half my family (the ones in particular are bastards for other, unrelated reasons, so it was no big loss, but that's still traumatic to go through as a young teenager).

But back to the topic at hand: my first phone had a camera but it was sold separate and had to be attached via connection to some port at the bottom of the phone. It was the dorkiest shit ever.

It was in use from September 2011 to January 2014. Wow I'm young, though I remember when my parents had phones like that

This is what my second (and current) phone looks like. I've been using it since January 2014.

Neither of the pictures are mine. It's just annoying to take an actual picture of my current phone, as it's the only camera that can be easily used. As for my old phone, I'm just lazy.

@pent: i only got the phone because i basically BEGGED for it after being sick-to-fucking-death of not being able to be in touch with my mum at the time. i was about 16-17? and she forgot to pick me up a lot of the time, the worst it ever was was me waiting for over an hour. >>;

Ahh. In my case, I was tired of losing track of mom at the store, so I used some birthday money to get a Tracfone I found at a dollar store for $10. Truth be told, I didn't think I was going to like this phone at first; I just bought it because it was cheap and I needed some way for mom to contact me, and yet, I ended up loving that phone.

that's all cells are really used for, in the end.

The only reason I wanted a Blackberry, or anything like it, was that one of the first phones offered by StraightTalk was a Blackberry clone that allows you to plug it into your computer to use as a 3G antenna. Sadly, they don't have that phone anymore :\

Phone history? Phone histories.

Family phone:
I was never allowed to use it but I think it's worth mentioning that we had a Motorola brick whose model number I don't remember. I'd have to find it, assuming it's still around.

First phone:
Don't remember my provider back then...

Second phone:

Fifth phone:

(given to me by my dad, used it for a couple weeks. Would have went back to my 4th phone, but I got my current one instead. lol)
Current phone:

Samsung Galaxy S3

(I really liked flip phones btw. It was just so satisfying to open.w)

the interface+touchscreen just wasn't to my liking. I can't really give you a concrete reason why, it just didn't feel natural to me. Of course, neither did the Android on my first try, but I got used to it fairly quickly. But it's entirely possible that I just hadn't spent enough time on the LG Cookie.

You didn't /need/ the stylus, but it still felt clunky to me. (Scrolling down anything was a pain in the ass) It was too much trouble to take out the stylus anyway. Especially coming from a flip phone, I was used to getting through menus and things fairly quickly.

Also this was around the time the iPhone came out and I was seriously considering getting a hold of one of those, however our cell provider didn't pick them up (until a few years ago, lulz) so I never did...

Sad thing though, he ended up ruining it when he jumped into a river with it still in her pocket. Got a cheap little keyboardphone not too long afterward.

my sister had a razr for years. i always wanted a phone but this was during the time when you could only get one via a plan, and i think she either paid for it via various jobs or piggybacked off a boyfriend's plan. i think it initially had cingular but eventually moved to verizon.

Mmm. Actually had someone come into work one day, wanting a new phone. Her old one, which she had with her, was a Cingular phone; obviously running on AT&T now.

So, if anyone is curious, this is what happens when you try to sync a Galaxy S3 with an iBook G3. From the Android side:

...and from the OS9 side:

Got to love how Flonne is all "Please plug me into something newer :\", while Sonata is like "I can check online to find drivers maybe ^^". Although, at the very least, Sonata can charge Flonne -w-

Also, we would be MAJOR ASSHOLES if Leafy-san already owned an iPhone and we were berating him for it.

Because you don't berate people for the computers/devices they own.

We're simply pointing that Galaxy Notes are actually good phones/tablets and that he shouldn't feel bad for having one.

I don't have a smartphone, and never have! I just have a basic flip phone, a Samsung model, but I don't know the specific model. I don't know if I have practical use for a smartphone to justify paying for the data plan and other expenses every month yet. I have a tablet, a Kindle Fire HD, but I mainly use it for reading stuff on the internet.

My dad has a Kindle Fire HD but he hardly ever uses it so I've adopted it. I mostly use it for web browsing and manga-reading...

As far as (non-smart)phones go, I had a flip phone until 2012. Stew's still using one too. Smartphones are hardly as necessary as the media would have you believe, although they are quite handy.

Indeed. I love Flonne III, but the one thing she'll never top Flonne II in is battery life and portability; II was easy to slip into a pocket and not have an issue, and could go for weeks on end on a single charge, while III usually lasts about a day and a half on a single charge if I don't do much and is a bit bulky to carry in my poket

Smartphones are one of those things where you either go "eh" or "where have you been all my life!?" I have a feeling tablet computers are also in that similar category--it depends on what uses the person finds for it.

As for me, I didn't use it much before, but now I study kanji on it, use it to place my to do list, develop programs for it, tweet, chat, play games, even remotely control my desktop computer with it (this will kill any meager data plan, btw), etc etc. So yeah, this phone is getting a lot of use from me.

@genpop: what sleepy said. i never thought i needed a smartphone and when i got one never pictured myself getting nearly as much use out of it as i do now. i've used it to keep in contact when my computer went down. to track my calories to help lose weight, as an alarm clock, day planner, minor library, for games, for my music (now that Gothpod is dead), movies, i've studied language on there, i keep some recipes on there......

and i don't even use it as a phone.

@aurora: you don't have to have a plan to have one of these. i bought mine off my sister and now use it as a sort of a glorified ipod touch. (bonus points since the iphone has GPS capabilities, but ipod touches don't) -w-

More or less, yeah. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of tablets, but I believe I could get by fine with a tablet + desktop computer, since I've historically had nonstop trouble with midrange laptops and don't use them enough to necessitate buying a high-end one. Tablets are relatively affordable and satisfy most of my mobile computing needs (mainly reading and web browsing). Same can be said of smartphones.

I'm very curious about this remote computer access app. What's it called?

Ah, I use TeamViewer:
http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

Install on your desktop and install on your phone. It's still a bit clunky since your monitor is much much bigger than your phone screen, so if you have a dual screen setup like me, it'll involve a lot of scrolling around. And again, this will use up gigs of data in a relatively short amount of time.

I generally only use it for any sort of emergency or if I wanted to take care of my moe-boats real quick.w But if you absolutely need to have access to your computer while physically away from it, a remote desktop system like this is your best bet.

It kinda annoys me that Chicago had to be rebooted in order to access the internet.

I think her predecessor had the same issues though, so it's inconvenient, but not a major issue. It only happened twice so far. With two different errors at that.

Now to see how to turn off the mobile web on a Windows Phone.

To Google!

Edit: Oh wait, I already knew how to do that. Sometimes when I brought the previous one out of airplane mode was when it typically decided not to load internet. Chicago doing that was unrelated to the airplane mode thing so it should work.

Cool. I just hope that it works better than the Moto X; which felt like it wouldn't activate properly (Every last one of them I sold was returned within the first hour due to issues with activating; most commonly due to it eating their prepaid card and then cutting them off after 10 minutes when it's supposed to be unlimited talk time. Granted, it was on Verizon, so that's likely a factor >_>; )

The handset I'm using now is the HTC Desire C:
(http://www.htc.com/managed-assets/shared/desktop/smartphones/htc-desire-c/marquee/slide-1.png) My argument isn't really great, but if you can please read.

Honestly I'm really, REALLY hating this phone. Everything lags/is jerky no thanks to the 600mhz processor and Adreno 200 GPU (it also has only 512MB of RAM but then again later versions of Android were optimized for low-end hardware). The 3.5 inch HVGA screen is pretty pixelated, not very bright, and looks blueish. Half the freaking buttons don't even work, NFC is not working properly even though it is supported, and the earpiece is very quiet.

But honestly, that only scratches the surface. The phone shares most of the specifications that graced the 2011/12/icantfuckingremember HTC Wildfire S which was a GOOD phone, yet if it tries to do something complicated like idunno, make a CALL, the phone shits on you.  If you're poor, get a Moto E or Android One phone. Even a Nokia brick is better.

So, currently beginning a long process of trying stuff in an effort to get my S3 to stop overheating; as when it hits a point of "throw it in the freezer at work to get it to cool down", it's time to do stuff. So far, I've removed the Skype app (Not like I use it much, anyway), and did a cache reset; which finally got battery usage back below 50%, and the phone itself seems more responsive.

I have things backed up, just in case I have to resort to heavier methods (Factory reset, rooting) to correct this problem, but so far, everything seems fine

rooting and installing a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod often solves speed/battery issues
maybe you should try it... you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from rooting

I would look through your settings and try to find anything that could be using the Wi-Fi or cellular antennas. Also screen brightness can be a major heat maker.

If you go the rooting method but don't want to lose stuff by installing a custom rom look for some kernel tweeking apps that can loser your CPUs maximum and minimum clock speeds. That might help save battery and take off some heat.

Physically you can check the contacts from your battery to your phone, a semi corroded contact might make some heat.

I did a reset of the cache, and that seems to have helped. The heat was consistently below the battery, around where the SD card slot is. Wifi is usually disabled, and the only thing using 3G is my usual stuff...which wouldn't explain why bringing up the My Files screen would cause it to overheat like I loaded Firefox :\

it may also be a software malfunction. you sure there were no recalls on this model?

Not that I'm aware of, at least. It seems to be doing better, now that I did the cache reset; RAM usage, battery life, and temp have dropped back to normal.

I just ran through all the possibilities I know of as an electronics enthusiast/semi-proffesional phone repair guy.

If the problem still continues I would follow Kari's suggestion and look up your phone's model on the internet and see if there has been a recall or others that have had the same problem.

Mmm. Seems fine for right now, but I'll keep those in mind if something goes wrong again. Thanks :3

at the very least you can pick up a new one for rather cheap if you have a department store in your area. the walmarts here sell them for like, $15-20 USD. :\

last week we attempted to jailbreak GTouch (iphone 4); ran into a list of problems:

1. current version of pangu will not accept a phone that old, Claire had to download an older version, which...
2. did not accept Claire's computer as "good" (it literally said in shitty fake broken Chinese "Your Computer Bad, Use Friend Computer"), which led to
3. Claire having to use MY computer (i don't mind, but still complicated), though this was further complicated by
4. making a backup of the phone (the smart thing to do) since the phone is 32gb, and ultimately
5. even after it finished (which took several hours), the jailbreaking wasn't working, so we had to reschedule for next week.

all this after having to re-import my entire itunes library after i was almost done with it a first time.

this twin idea is getting harder and harder by the day.... *w*;;;;;

I went the third-party route... needless to say I was sorely-disappointed.

Some jailbreak programs are only compatible with specific firmwares, so no surprises there.

it's actually an iOS issue; the 4 can only be upgraded to iOS 7.1.2, which isn't supported anymore by the latest edition of Pangu. everyone's expected you to switch over by now, even if the hardware still works. :\

yeahhhh, don't go third-party. appleware is really finicky about that. i've gotten burned by it, too. >>;

why downgrade? you lose a lot of support for certain features if you do. :\

no
the imei of the devices are linked to apple's database, so its harder to get past the activation screen now. they check the imei of the device then they can tell what icloud account is associated with it

upgrading my HTC Desire to the Desire S, because of the charging issues and the LED flash failing

Thinking of getting an android phone. Microsoft is repeatedly disappointing me with [each] Windows 10 Mobile [build] and Windows Phone will likely be on life support once the former launches. I dont want to switch, but my hands are somewhat tied; They will be at least in a few months time.

I've been using a Sony Xperia Z1s for the past year and change, gotta say that its held out pretty well but with the back side glass shattering a while ago (this has since been fixed), the waterproof usb cover ripping off, and the OS being one of the most broken I've used for a while I'm going to upgrade very soon. Probably going to get the iPhone6 because my lil bro got the 6+ and its actually really nice. the regular 6 is the same size as the Z1s so I won't be sacrificing anything but the waterproof which is useless anyway now without that cover. Welp, hopefully this happens tomorrow if I can get my pops to go to tmobile tomorrow with me.

it'd be OK... just try to be sure is Android 5, so you can write to SD card, unlike with 4.4+

If i do go Android I'll be getting a Moto device(like the new G w/ LTE), as those are like the Lumias of android, and are guaranteed to at least get the next version of android. Plus they're pretty.

great... I advice, because of all my Droidevices only my L30 doesn't let the apps write on SD, so if I do something I have to go first into storage, then move it with built in file managerk... so can't use my cloudsdale drives as seamlessly as I'd like
