Title: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Aurora Borealis on September 23, 2012, 11:45:30 PM
I feel bad I've barely drawn any OS-tan stuff this year, and want to get back to drawing some more stuff, even if it's short simple comics. I have a few ideas already in progress, but am struggling to come up with some more for the time being. So, anyone have any some ideas for some simple comics? Even better if it's quirky historical stuff. :) I'd like to make this into a collaborative project where we can post ideas, refine them, draw them, etc. and post these up.

I actually did have an idea for a picture, that maybe someone could come up with a plot for and maybe make into a 4koma

All I really have pictured in my head is a guy reading a copy of Macs for Dummies, and sitting next to him is MacOS-tan; reading a book titled "Dummies for Macs"

A starting point would be to identify the other character. Maybe someone is trying to befriend one of the Mac-tans: either an anonymous character, or ME-tan (reading the book, hoping to understand the Macs in time for the next Windows-Mac meeting!), or Dreamlinux-tan (trying to get the courage to talk to Mac-tan, who is her role model). I think either of the latter two would be easier to make into a 4Koma.

Weird that you made this thread tonight, earlier today I was trying to draw some comic vignettes with MUSIC/SP and MTS-tan. O.O

On that note, I'd like to see more drawings of vintage OS-tans - 1970s and previous - mainly because they're underrepresented in artwork (well, aside from my own) and many of them exist only in writing with no drawn representations yet.

Considering the weird and clashing personalities in their factions, there's plenty of quick, one-shot comic potential among the DEC, CDC and IBM-tans imo ...

@Bella: I have in mind a 4Koma where a diplomatic meeting is attempted at the IBM faction palace, but TOS/360 escapes from the basement and scares the visitors away. I have the script typed up, now to draw it...

/osc/ has a mivehind hidden somewhere, and we all know it.

And for some reason, I get this feeling that the death and resurrection of COLOSSUS would be a splendid comic idea. Slightly above 4koma format, of course, and a bit more DEEP, but seeing as the script is already written (http://nejinoniwa.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4d92ag), you know, why the hell not.

Also I need to get back to my OS-tan writage sometime. Ponies are stealing my hours away too fast >_>

@Aurora: I initially thought of Toshiaki as the person reading the first book, but I think I like the idea of having Dreamlinux-tan reading it :3

are we all thinking the same thing? hivemind, srsly? cause since i'm starting to really get into comic preperation, i've been thinking of furthering the plot of the OS-tan Comiket (i have one arc so far, and a few more in mind).
that said, i also had an idea for a spinoff series of yonkomas about my ideal computer, called Nanami's House. it'd basically star nanami as a landlady in a large apartment-house (think Chobits or Maison Ikkoku), with the various residents being all the programs installed.

if you want ideas for something for you to draw, though, ME-tan goes to the Convenience Store. seems like it could be the subject of a series of yonkomas.

I did actually have a second idea for a comic, if you'd like me to share it now. I don't want to overload you with too many of my ideas, so let me know if you want to see the 2nd one (Which I pretty much have the whole thing planned out)

@Pentium: I sort of have an idea for a script.

@Nejin: I'd like to at the very least make an illustration depicting the sad state Colossus was in just before her death. To expand that into a comic, I'll need your help with like the atmosphere, the scenery, layout.

@Choco: I'd like to see that too! Maybe we could help each other with OS-tan comics?

Sounds good to me xD

Also, I came up with a second idea for a different comic, if you want to hear it once you're finished with my first request. I don't want to overload you all at once ^_^;

@aurora: i'd love to help each other. though, to be fair, i'm in preparations now that i have a solid webcomic plan involving smackjeeves. so 90% of my creative efforts are being poured into Ace's High. ^^;;

The thing with Colossus at the end was the fact that she'd had her death sentence for over a decade before it was actually enacted. After the war was over, it was a kind of, "Okay, thanks for your hard work, but we're gonna have to kill you eventually, so please keep working for a while so we can kill you when we're done with you" sort of deal. And Colossus went along with it, because she was programmed so deep down to remain loyal, to protect Britain and her secrets - even if it cost her own life. At the very end, she has this epiphany, realizing the fact that she's been betrayed by Absolutely Everyone, including herself. The world was out to get her, and she helped them fasten the noose around her neck and jumped off willingly.

I don't have any really fitting words for the utter despair and rage she'd be in at the end, honestly. Nobody was on her side, not even herself. So if you're feeling up for some drawery of complete betrayal, the fall of Colossus is gonna be gud.

Can someone set her up in a penpal program with SAGE-sama? I think they'd be able to bond over shared experiences. (´ω`)

THIS SHOULD BE A BUDDY COMEDY

She was unfortunately very dead all the time until well after SAGE stopped being very responsive to the world.

Bah, SAGE isn't so far gone that she can't still make friends. 'u'
Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: NejinOniwa on September 28, 2012, 03:54:35 PM
Yeah, but COLOSSUS wasn't really made with that function built-in...
Part of the reason why she has such a hard time fitting in and making sense of people/orders/missions/whatever is that she simply can't sort people. While both she and SAGE are military units, SAGE was built in the middle of the Cold War with lots of tensions high, but nothing really happening live (not to mention with plenty more advanced tech backing her - seeing as COLOSSUS isn't Turing-complete, I figure it'd be a good way to translate that into canon); whereas COLOSSUS was born and bred during the greatest war of modern history, and did enough operations to become a decorated war hero if not for the fact that she was scrapped by her masters. Basically, COLOSSUS isn't capable of sorting people beyond Enemy/Allied subordinate/Allied superior/Civilian. WITCH has tried her best to instill into her the fact that others can be on the same rank as her, but that's about as far as even Omega has managed to ease her back into society.

So tl;dr, she'd be a tough nut to crack in terms of friendship.
makes me wanna pony that shit hurhurhur

Ohh, I gotcha now. That makes sense, and it also makes me wonder if this couldn't explain some of the mental instabilities present in other WWII-era computer-tans (well, it's really only ENIAC and Harvard Mk. I-tan).

If you pony it, I will provide illustrations. : p

@Pentium: Here's the storyboard!

EDIT: Oops I made a typo on panel 1; DL-tan was supposed to say "well, yes..."

Also that's not the full-sized version. Looks like photobucket scaled it down, so I should upload this to the gallery instead.
Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Nichi on October 04, 2012, 02:30:13 PM
I agree on uploading it to the gallery; Photobucket has a habit of shrinking large pictures, in my experience.

Also, I like it so far. When you start to work on the final version, it'd be neat to throw in a few easter eggs into the background; like maybe have books with titles of stories and comics written by OSCers on the shelf in the first panel, if that isn't too difficult to pull off. Otherwise, I can't really think of anything else; it looks nice so far :3

I'm just going to throw this out here - since the fifth anniversary of the creation of Multics-tan is coming up on the 15th, maybe you could do a comic featuring her? I've been trying to work on an inspired-by-true-events story involving Multics-tan and Cray 1-sama (basically, it goes back to the fact that Multics was used on numerous occasions as a front-end systems for Cray supercomputers running COS! (http://www.multicians.org/mgc.html#CrayStation)), but have been kind of stuck for awhile - at any rate, it would be pretty darn fabulous seeing Multics-tan and Cray 1-sama together in your drawing style.

And there's plenty of opportunity for either humor (Cray 1 and Multics-tan having a fantastic clash of egos and/or fashion sense) or more serious writing (Multics-tan isn't used to being "subserviant" to another OS-tan; how would she react to being a helper for the much larger/physically-powerful Cray-tan?).
Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Aurora Borealis on October 14, 2012, 01:20:45 AM
Awesome find!

On the dramatic side, Cray-1 didn't like getting help at first because of her ego. I know for sure that RDOS-tan and Nova-tan helped her and they became two of her first friends when she learned to trust others, though that was earlier in her life. I think they could have possibly gotten along, since Cray-1 had already become nicer than she was before, but them getting along and having things in common would have been hard for both to admit due to personal pride, and under the condition that Cray-1 didn't know that Multics is Unix's mother. COS got replaced by UNICOS, suggesting the Unix at some point ruined their collaboration.

Played for laughs, they'd clash over fashions nearly as soon as they met each other, so they turn to designing a uniform to wear as a solution during their collaboration, but argue over what it looks like, drawing over each others' sketches, escalating into throwing crumpled paper balls at each other before scrapping that idea and clash over fashion again.

I'll have to work on this some more, but I've improvised some ideas already!

Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Bella on October 14, 2012, 01:31:12 AM
I'm really liking both of those ideas! And your dramatic notes have helped me figure out how Multics and Cray-1 might interact with each other in my story, something I'd been struggling with. I was so busy assuming that Multics-tan would feel resentful about being hired as a helper, that I never even considered the opposite - that Cray-1-tan wouldn't necessarily enjoy asking for help.

Incidentally, I also concluded that they would likely be able to get along, even if it took them awhile to see past their feelings of personal pride.

Your idea for a humorous Multics and Cray comic is hilarious! That would certainly make for a great short comic. :D

Thanks! Thought of making it at least a two-parter, with the first part being Multics entering Cray-1's palace for the first time, with Multics thinking that a demon or frost giant lives there because it's very cold, but that's how Cray-1 coped with avoiding overheating. I'll need some help filling the details in the middle of the first part, but Multics turns out to be more insulted by Cray-1's comments on her fashion than being called a puny human, being her servant, or being threatened with having her ass kicked for raising the thermostat. That leads to the bit I proposed in my last post.

I also read your updated version of RSTS' article and the bit about RSTS being a slow to mature OS instantly made me want to make a strip about that! I was thinking a strip where RSTS is visiting the Vintage-tans, showing off her super strength abilities, only for PDP-1 to cheerfully remark that she still remembers when RSTS, despite having been deployed for service still needed help with trivial tasks for years; cue to a flashback of RSTS holding a peanut butter jar and begging for DOS-11 to help her open it, with DOS-11 muttering 'oh for fuck's sake...'.

Oooh, that sounds really cool! In the story I was thinking of writing, I originally wanted to have an ice vs. psionic magic fight scene between Multics and Cray-1... but then again I'm horrible at writing fights so that probably wouldn't work out anyway. ^^;

That sounds just like Multics, actually. There's not a lot she can do about who she's hired to help, or her physical size, but somebody questioning her creative sense would be a huge insult. x.x

@Pentium and Bella: Thanks!

That's one of the Easter Eggs! Summer Days was a Darker and Edgier OS-tan fic, right? I can't remember off the top of my head, but if it is, then Linux XP has quite the taste in literature!

There are two more Easter Eggs on the page. :)

I redesigned Dreamlinux's outfit to look more distinctive

Glad that the Multics and Cray 1 story idea is working so far. Here's a tentative script to the first part:

Quotepanel 1: [Multics is standing outside the door to Cray 1's palace]

panel 2:
Multics: (thinking) I can't believe I have to be someone's servant. I am an aristocrat!

panel 3:
[She enters and is still freezing]
M: What the hell? Does some sort of frost giant live here or--

panel 4:
[close-up of thermostat, set to 45]

panel 5:
[A silhouette of Cray-1 appears in Multics' view; from the silhouette alone, Multics knows she's imposing.]
Cray-1: Don't mess with the thermostat, servant.
   Multics: ... (scared)

panel 6: Close-up of Cray-1
Multics: (nervous outburst) Oh crap my overlord is a frost giant!!

panel 7:
Multics: I j-j-just want to-- not freeze to death!!
   Cray-1: Fine. Good enough.

panel 8:
Cray-1: But if I overheat because you turned the thermostat all the way up to 60, I'm going to kick your ass.
(just as non-chalantly) By the way, I'm Cray-1.

I envision Cray-1 as being part Ice Queen, one part Big Guy, another part Jerk With A Heart Of Gold.

Thanks! I used to hate drawing detailed backgrounds, but now I've gained a liking for it, especially when they say something about the character who lives there. Even the thermostat was designed with a futuristic look in mind! I assume that Multics would be weirded out by the futuristic style, but is too focused on how it's freezing in there! Panels 2 and 3 are my favorite on this page.

When I read WAITS-tan's article, I wanted to make a strip about a young WAITS-tan's hiccuping fits. :P

Mostly done with part 2 of the Multics and Cray-1 strip, and here's what I've proposed for part 3:

Quote
panel 1:
Multics: Uhh... Nice to meet you?
Cray-1: Yes. We will begin our collaboration promptly. Follow me.

panel 2: [Multics and Cray-1 are walking down a hallway]
Multics: (thinking: 'It's not much of a collaboration when I'm the servant!')
Cray-1: When we go to the next room, you can hang up your coat and hat.

panel 3: [In the next room, Multics hangs up her coat and hat, revealing the rest of her rococo-style dress.]

panel 4:
Cray-1: What the hell are you wearing?
   Multics: ...

The WAITS Hiccuping Incident of 1966 is such a  popular (http://cptlfrghtr.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2ipubz) subject (http://cptlfrghtr.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2ipupp) for artists (http://bellacielo.deviantart.com/art/Let-s-Hug-it-Out-153156876)... ;u;

A bit tangential, but I may or may not be working on a short PDP-8 'n LINC comic.....

The hiccup beam comment on one of those links made me giggle. I was struggling to come up with dialogue, but now I should add something about SAGE saying "It's not like I unleashed a hiccup beam on you!" then imagine herself unleashing one on her enemies. >=D

I'd like to see your comic.

I have an idea for a comic, based on a dream I had about an OS-tan anime series:

It starts off with 2k-tan sitting at the edge of a lake, fishing...when suddenly XP-tan came out of nowhere and pushed her in. Shortly after, 2k reappeared behind XP, standing on a return platform from Super Smash Bros., with an annoyed look on her face.

XP-tan could be swapped out with a different -tan (Like if you can think of one who seems more like a prankster), and as for the return platform thing, we could have her climb out of the late. Either way would be good, but feel free to suggest any ideas for it

@Pentium: It's a good start. For the prankster character, I'd recommend Macintosh System 5-tan for that role. Because she's a ghost and can make herself invisible to those outside the Mac House, she could get away with it. Better yet, the scenario could be set up so that System 5-tan was with another Mac-tan, who tries to stop System 5-tan from pushing 2K into the water, but was too late and because 2K couldn't see System 5-tan, the other Mac-tan gets blamed for it. Akwardness ensues.

Another prankster I could recommend is EvilEntity-tan, who would push 2K into the water (she has a vendetta against Windows), but gets caught by 95-tan, who was nearby and banishes her.

I think either one of those would work well.

Part 2 of the Multics and Cray-1 comic finished!:

I like this idea. System 5 seems like the perfect prankster for something like this

This looks fabulous! And Cray's expression when Multics-tan calls her a frost giant is PRICELESS, as is Cray's general treatment of Multics here.... ^.^;;

A bit of a cross-post from the Wiki thread, but next time I'm editing I'll probably add the links to these comics in Multics and Cray-1-tan's articles.

@Pentium: Sounds good. I'll elaborate on what I have in mind next time I post here.

@Bella: Thanks! Cray-1 is the type who can shift from cordial to rude and back suddenly without changing the tone of her voice. At the same time, I can almost imagine her being the Large Ham type. A rather stoic one, but I can still imagine it!

Good to see you back Aurora, I was wondering where you'd gone. (Probably busy with holiday preparations?) ^^'

Heh, I can see Cray 1-tan as a stoic Large Ham type too. ^^; Part 3 is looking good already, Cray's speech continues to amuse me and Multics' outraged face in the final panel is amazing! This goes without saying, but I look forward to seeing the completed page. :)
Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Aurora Borealis on December 18, 2012, 04:23:41 PM
@Pentium: Expanding on that idea, one of the Mac-tans sees that System 5-tan is about to push 2K-tan into the water and tries to stop her. Question is, which Mac-tan should it be? I was thinking either System 6-tan or 7-tan for different reasons. System 6-tan has super strength and super speed, so she's fast enough to stop System 5-tan, but could accidentally push 2K all the way across the pond, and ends up getting accused of causing conflict when she tried to avert it. If System 7-tan is the one stopping System 5-tan instead, she was too late to stop her, and because of System 7-tan's role in the OS Wars, she might get accused of trying to start it again. Either way, tremendous awkwardness ensues!

@Bella: Glad you like it! Sorry I haven't worked on this in weeks. I had some tough assignments due before finals, and there was finals week itself.

I just have one "complain" on the story board...
upon reading it, and comparing it with the proposed script 4-3 is wrong... in the SB, it seems that Cray-1 is talking first, when she's only answering Multics... otherwise I can't also wait to see the pages, but take your time...

BTW I've been thinking in an idea I'd like to try, but I'll wait until you are not as busy as now...

I'm still willing to continue this, but unfortunately I forgot how this series of strips was supposed to end :(

I have this script for part 6:

Quote
Panel 1: [a shot of them drawing their designs on paper]
narration: To avoid fighting further over fashion, Multics and Cray-1 turned to designing uniforms to wear during their collaboration...
Multics: Whatever you design, make sure it's something I won't freeze to death in
Cray-1: I'll try to keep that in mind

Panel 2:
Cray-1: *looking at Multics' sketch, pen in hand*
   Those frills aren't necessary
   Multics: (angry) Hey!

Panel 3:
   Multics *scribbles over Cray-1's sketch*
Multics: Well, are those crystal panels necessary?

Panel 4: *Cray-1 crumples Multics' sketches*

And this for part 7:

Quote

Panel 1: *Multics throws crumpled sketches at Cray-1*

Panel 2: *Cray-1 throws her own crumpled sketches*

Panel 3: *SCOPE walks back in, seeing Multics and Cray-1 throwing crumpled paper at each other*
   SCOPE: Umm... Isn't there a collaboration you're supposed to be doing? ^_^;

Panel 4:
   Cray-1: We're collaborating on--
Multics: Insulting each others' fashion sense! You don't care about fashion, so you wouldn't understand!

But I can't remember if I had anything after that. If there was originally a punchline, I don't want to forget it. I feel bad neglecting this place for so long. :(

Maybe we can brainstorm ideas together, if you still want to complete it!

Alright! :)

Here's an idea using what you have so far. I'm pretty sure SCOPE's supposed to be the Voice Of Reason of the CDC family, so it might be funny if she discovered Multics and Cray-tan fighting and went into stern teacher/mother mode and, I dunno, separated them and sentenced them to time-out or something. I could probably come up with something better, but there's one idea to get the ball rolling. -w-

That sounds like a good idea!

I'll still need to figure out how to work this into 4 panels, but, something like this?:

Quote[SCOPE overhears Multics' and Cray-1's arguments, and facepalms]
[SCOPE busts in]
SCOPE: That's it! Both of you need a time-out!
Cray-1: But-- But-- Multics started it!
Multics: What? Me?! But you insulted me--
SCOPE: I said... Time Out!
Multics and SCOPE: [bows] Yes, SCOPE.

I'd also like to slip something about SCOPE's backstory as the voice of reason among the CDCs, and not being intimidated by more powerful mainframe-tans. If she's not intimidated by Cray-1 or Multics, then practically no one can intimidate her!
Title: Re: Any OS-tan comic ideas you want me to draw?
Post by: Bella on June 02, 2014, 04:48:18 PM
That storyboard is delightful Aurora! I got a laugh out of SCOPE's seeming cheerful oblivion at Multics' and Cray's disagreement, and her excitement at the thought of Multics being Cray's servant. :D

As well, your script concept for the next part sounds good. SCOPE is one of the oldest CDC-tans and has had struggles with a number of her kin (most notably NOS-tan - whom she had to defeat in battle, if memory serves correct). That alone has probably hardened her and made her difficult to intimidate!

I got parts 3 and 4 finished! :D

If the noses look 'off' to you, it's because I had to draw them in on the .psd file. I forgot that I originally included them in the earlier strips.

Yeah, SCOPE's had to (try) try and murder some fools before.  She's pretty much the entire family's stern mother whether they like it or not.  That includes some maternal interest in the later Crays as well even if they aren't strictly speaking family.

This is .... beautiful ...

Multics' "IT IS ON" reaction in the final panel of part three made my heart smile, and her response to Cray in the beginning of Part 4 drives home the point that she's no pushover, even if she's currently being employed as a servant! Cray's flippant attitude (and troll-lol-lol expressions ^^;) in panels 2 & 3 seems fitting of someone of her power (and, I daresay, arrogance), although I think she seriously underestimates how dangerous Multics can get when she's angry!

(And I really like the full-view of Multics' dress in panel 3. I've been wanting to draw a full body pic of Multics; I may have to use your dress concept. It looks really good!)

On one hand, Multics' dramatic (hammy? ^__^;) delivery in the last two panels is both hilarious AND appropriate. Multics has a deep love of aesthetics and beauty and Cray's insults would count as nothing short as an affront to some of her most cherished ideals. I love how the bold lighting in the last panel emphasizes the tension of the moment — i'm very much anticipating the next installation!

Thanks! I liked designing Multics' dress, but I think I should have added more frills on the bottom half. Oh well. It's frilly enough, isn't it? :P I wasn't sure if she was much of a Large Ham type of character, but I think this is a situation where that trope fits her perfectly!

---
I'm currently working on the storyboards for the last parts, but I'm also jumping ahead to another idea.

I could use some help with this. It's a tentative script of another idea I wanted to draw, about RSTS-tan's embarrassing weakness of struggling with trivial tasks:

Quote
Setting: At the Vintage Federation, many of the Vintage-tans are gathered around to watch RSTS show off her strength, but PDP-1 ends up embarrassing her.

Panel 1: RSTS is lifting weights, while many of the Vintage-tans watch, and look in awe.

Panel 2: Front-view of the crowd
PDP-1: She's always been very strong, and trained hard. I'm so proud of her!

Panel 3:
PDP-1: Oh, but I remember when RSTS needed help with the most trivial things! This went on for years! ^_^

Panel 4:
   RSTS: *loses concentration, drops weight*

Panel 5: [Flashback to circa 1971-72, a young RSTS-tan runs to DOS-11, with a peanut butter jar in hand]
DOS-11! I need help opening this!

Panel 6:
DOS-11: *muttering* Oh for fuck's sake, you're in service now!

Panel 7: [Flashback to 1985; RSTS got promoted by this time, as RSTS was a full-featured OS by this time]
PDP-1 (narrating): Even after being promoted to major, she still needed help with the same things!
VMS: You're now a major, and been in service for nearly 15 years, and still need help with this?
   RSTS: Yes...

Panel 8:
   VMS: Dammit... *opens jar*

Panel 9:
   [back to the present]
RSTS: This is why I don't visit my my family very often. -_-

I'm not entirely sure how to continue the latter part, or if it's good as-is. To make it 3 equal-sized parts, it'd need to be 12 panels, and perhaps I could add in another embarrassing flashback by PDP-1 about RSTS failing another basic task?

I also wanted to play with the Amazingly Embarrassing Parents/Relatives trope. I can imagine all the elders of the Vintage Federation sharing silly stories that'd embarrass their younger relatives! :P

I'm accepting more ideas, and recently started making more OS-tan comics which I will post in this thread, but please be specific. I haven't kept up with Linux distros lately, so I'd like to get some ideas about them.

The last time I posted in this thread, I had only 4 out of 8 strips for the Multics + Cray-1 comic finished. They're all finished now, and will be the first pages I'll post. The comic idea I had about RSTS-tan visiting the Vintage Federation has also been drawn, and is mostly finished.

I don't have a script set up for that yet, but that idea could be the basis of a strip about the limits of dual-booting, and of just how far back can a current OS coexist with an older OS on the same computer. I only used Windows 2000 a few times, but there should be some differences that 2k-tan and 10-tan would argue over.

I third the idea that the Unix Family reunion would be a lot of fighting! I have a rough idea for how that could be made into a comic. I'd want to include a scene where they all try to take a family photo, but can't stay still long enough to not fight each other, so all of the pictures turn out badly, and the photographer gets too frustrated and walks out. Who do you think that poor photographer would be?

With the IRIX-tan and Amiga-tan idea, would it be in the past or the present? I learned from you that they would've had a rivalry back in the 90's because of the 2D vs 3D rivalry, but I need some more details.

Very true. In my experiments, 2000 was the only one that worked well enough to be almost practical, even though I had to make a few sacrifices on the 10 side to balance things out (Mostly in terms of controllers; as 10 is held back by being forced to use IDE to maintain compatibility with 2000, since I had trouble getting SCSI or SATA to work).

I could draw that, because it reminds me of some other drawings about OS-tans losing their company support, but I have some mixed feelings about it, because it's become established that OS-tans stop aging past a certain point. They can get a lot weaker from a loss of support and losing most of their userbase. What could definitely work is drawing XP-tan crying over losing her support, and turning to ME-tan and 2K-tan for help coping with it. Losing her support would've been emotionally devastating for her because she knew it was going to happen eventually, but XP still has a sizeable following. Didn't Vista lose support before XP? I'd envision that Vistan would be annoyed with XP-tan crying over losing her support if Vistan lost hers before XP-tan did, but that they'd put their rivalry over this aside.

I'll need some more details about that. How do you think their perception of each other has changed? Because of some indie games being 3D, but a lot of them being 2D and some of those using pixel art styles reminiscent of 80's and 90's gaming, IRIX-tan's and Amiga-tan's 3D vs 2D rivalry could go either way. It could've cooled down after Amiga-tan was happy to see 2D gaming be revived. I assume their rivalry in the 90's was from IRIX-tan thinking that 3D gaming was the future, and Amiga-tan not wanting 2D gaming to be obsolete and forgotten. Their rivalry could've also been sparked again because of the comeback 2D gaming has made.

Quote from: undefinedLeopard-tan, perhaps? (the first version of OS X to meet the Single UNIX Specification)

She'd be a good candidate! I see her as being interested in her Unix heritage, but impartial to all of the branches within the Unix Family, and avoiding their conflicts because her loyalty is to the House of Mac first, and she wants to be an observer documenting history.

Quote from: Bella on May 04, 2019, 12:11:27 AMFor all your Unix-shunning needs, I highly recommend MERT-tan (https://www.ostan-collections.net/wiki/index.php/MERT).

CB Unix might also be a good choice.

I don't remember the details for CB Unix-tan, but poor MERT-tan! She'd be a good candidate too, but being in the same room as the Unix Family is dangerous for her! How will they make sure that Unix doesn't try to kill her? I'm surprised that she remains in the Linux/Unix Consortium despite the danger to her. Perhaps the Linux-tans are willing to protect her?

If she will be the photographer while Unix is in the group picture because Unix agreed to not kill MERT-tan (this time?), one of the punchlines could be that MERT-tan looked death in the eyes and lived to tell the story about it!

CB's UNIX's bastard daughter from Ohio that was also used in telephone switching applications.  She or Snow Leopard are probably MERT's best friend, maybe both.  My original post with Bells' corrections below it are here (https://www.ostan-collections.net/forum/index.php?msg=107795).

UNIX probably wouldn't go for her in so public a venue.  How much she actually wants MERT dead is to a degree debatable, but she does want her to suffer.  Being forced to socialize could come under that heading, with of course UNIX-sama's 'blessing' just to worsen her UNIX related flashbacks. The Multics + Cray-1 comic has been completed, and is 8 strips long. These first 4 are revamps. The last 4 will be posted later! I started this when I made this thread, but dropped it after page 5 was half-complete, and only up to page 6 or 7 was storyboarded.

I thought up some more ideas to the Unix Family reunion comic. This will be a challenging one to draw because so many characters will be featured, and fighting each other! I'll include as many of them as I can fit in, including the exiled members and the defectors who are there because Unix made made her invitations to the reunion mandatory!

As for who the photographer will be, I decided on MERT-tan for the role, because she's disliked by most of the Unix-tans, and because she has powers that can help her escape their wrath!

The next 3 comics will be simpler ones:
1. DEC Family comic about OS/8-tan's habits and inability to keep track of time.
2. RSTS-tan visits the Vintage Federation; an idea from the previous page (https://www.ostan-collections.net/forum/index.php/topic,1595.msg161328.html#msg161328).
3. C64-tan wearing a new uniform for a family photo, and accidentally causes trouble for it! This is based off a discussion about what anime-inspired accessory or outfit would she be wearing in the present day?

Oh man, I'm glad I finished some (more) siblings for OS/8.  Poly-Question would be all-aboard for dunking on her, thanks to her creator's influence no doubt.  In every publication where he discussed P?S/8 he made sure to dump on OS/8.  That said, it'd be far more loving since, you know, sisters.

OS-tangent 2 and 3, starring some DEC-tans, with some bonus vintage cameos!

OS-tangent 2:

This strip was based off of the silly question of which OS-tan would be the most likely to make chocolate pudding at 4 AM because she lost control of her life? A reunion of some of the DEC Family (OS/8, VMS, and TOPS-10) who were visiting VAXELN-tan. For the last panel, imagine that they're watching old B-movie that was airing early in the morning!

OS-tangent 3:

RSTS-tan goes to visit the Vintage Federation! Lots of cameo appearances for vintage OS-tans! In panel 2 from left to right: Rainbow 100, Multics, Amiga, PDP-1, TOPS-10, Altair 8800, GS/OS. Like RSTS-tan, Rainbow 100-tan is a wanderer who came over to visit. These strips are based off of RSTS being described as a slow to mature OS, so I headcanoned her as struggling with some basic tasks and being afraid of the dark for many years, and PDP-1-tan being proud of RSTS-tan and her skills, but also being the Amazingly Embarrasing Family Matriarch!

The next OS-tangent will be about the Commodore Family, and will be 6 pages long. This was a difficult one, but these pages are mostly finished, and I'll post them 1 or 2 pages at a time.

I've mentioned it before but it's great to see so many of the DEC-tans together! OS/8-tan's crazed pudding-making in the first page made me laugh, as did PDP-1-tan's obvious joy at making her younger relative squirm.

Nice to see the cameos by GS/OS and Multics too - I almost missed them at first!

So basically, my most upvoted Reddit post is an OS-tan-related post and one of the comments looks worthy of a comic. It is me dating XP-tan.

However, please replace my Reddit username with my first name (Jay).
Also, use my Mii as a reference for my appearance in that comic. The link below is a photo of my Mii.

That's wishful thinking my dude, but I think you'll need to make a commission for that one.

How do I make a commission?

Ask politely and make a monetary offer, that would be a start.
