Title: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 29, 2012, 09:12:31 PM
Considering the other two threads are for Mutant and for general purpose, i thought i'd make one specifically for changeling.

For people that have already played the game, here's a thread where we can discuss and you can listen to me beg you to play. ^^

For people that haven't played, here's a thread where you can learn about it and you can listen to me beg you to play. ^^;

for anyone that wants the book: the only torrents i can find of the core book include basically the entire Old World of Darkness book collection, so if anyone wants just the core book and nothing more, i can provide. (http://www.kat.ph/old-world-of-darkness-owod-t3239726.html) (i'd provide you with the torrents i used for my information, but i got them from demonoid, so.....yeah.) I can provide basic character sheets and race-specific character sheets as well. I'll tell you now that all copies of the book i can find on the net' are in black and white; sorry for that. :\ if you prefer, they sell used copies of the book on amazon for fairly cheap (15-20 bucks), so if you want a hard copy, they're not hard to come by. just make sure you send me the link to the one you're getting first, so i can make sure it's right one.

if possible, it'd be lovely if everyone could be familiar with the content up to chapter 6. before you freak out, most of you know this already, as chapter 1 is explaining the basics of the world, 2-4 is about the races and character creation, and 5 is the "magics" section. chapter 6 is just the basic rules, but i thought it'd be better for everyone to be familiar. ^^;

Ashberg

Ah, Ashberg. A city that's mediocre at best for humans, shakey for Changelings. While there are wells of glamour being kicked up by the excitement of the big city, the gathering of creative minds, and the large red-light district, on the whole Ashberg is a rather banal place to live. it could, by all means, be a lot worse, but this ain't no Narnia.

This is a map of Ashberg's Subway. it covers the entirety of the city, as well as outlying suburbs. It has 5 coloured lines, with most of the terminus stations ending in some form of suburbs. This provides the main source of transit for Changelings.

Points of Interest:

Chilter Hill Academy: A rather grey boarding school in the rather grey suburb of Chilter Hill, located at the west end of the red line. Banality seeps through the area, fought off only by the small freehold located near the school. The population of the area consists mostly of families whose children attend the school, along with nuns and Grump Changelings (some of whom have children who attend the school). Nearby is St. Josephine's Church, a small but devout congregation, who makes a major contribution to the banality level in the area.

Chester Square: The city's Red Light District, located towards the west side of the city, off the Rockmore stop. With one of the main roads of the city, Hope Street, running through it, The Square pulses with life. This area is one of the best for Changelings due to the high concentration of glamour, but also one of the worst due to the high number of residents of the World of Darkness. Mages, Werecreatures, Vampires, Wraiths, and Changelings all congregate here, along with humans and hunters. While this might be a great place to make friends, it's also an easy place to make enemies. Despite this, Chester Square isn't that bad of a place to be, with shopping, restaurants, bars, cheap housing, and various "attractions" dotting the landscape. The Square also overlaps with the city's Chinatown, which hosts its own crop of Asian Enchanted.

Shopping District: Bordering the Southeast corner of Chester Square is the Shopping District. The city's other main street, Ferndale Road, runs through this area, making it another hotbed of activity. Unlike Chester Square, however, the Shopping District hosts more humans than WoD Residents, making it a bit more banal than The Square. However, Changelings can be found here doing business, selling both real-world and chimerical items. Damn near anything can be found here, if you know where to look......

Base Bay: A rather large bay to the south of the city, Base Bay is home to both Orange Blossom Beach and Base Bay Sewage Treatment Facility. While it makes a rather nice summer destination, it leaves one to question just what one is swimming in. A hot spot for aquatic Changelings, especially post and pre season, Base Bay is an alright place if one is willing to look past the grime. It is accessible mainly by the southern terminus of the blue line.

Morrows Square: A much smaller square than Chester Square, Morrows Square is located towards the east of the city and has Ferndale Road running through it. Something of a combination of Chester Square and the Shopping District, Morrows is a much milder place to be than either, and as a result it doesn't get much action. A good place to go if one wants to actually do what Chester and the Shopping District offer.

Oakdale Apartment Complex: Located above Morrows Square, off of the Oakdale stop on the red line, Oakdale is a Low-rent housing offered mainly to working people from the city. Less rowdy than the apartments in Chester Square, Oakdale is quite peaceful despite what it could be or seems to be. As a result the place has a higher banality than it might otherwise, but the dreams of a better life are ripe here.

Loose Ends Freehold: A small underground Freehold located in a section of subway tunnel past the End of the Line stop on the east end of the red line. Only accessible by subway (and only if the Freehold's gatekeeper allows it), Loose Ends is a small shanty-town of campfires and commoner Changelings. The Freehold, despite looking like a refuge for the destitute, is a very warm and welcoming place, and is willing to aid any WoD Resident in need, provided they are kind and peaceful in return. Occasionally, they are known to use their location to their advantage, trapping Residents there until they agree to help in some matter the Freehold can't handle themselves.

(i'll add more later)

This sounds interesting. I'd like the rulebook, please; research is needed :3

I'll send it over skype. I should mention that most, if not all interactions for games will take place over skype, while planning will be split between here and skype.

also, edited top post to show subway map instead of the link.

EDIT: i'd like to pose a question of anyone who wants to play: i was considering recycling the previous arc from the game we played. basically taking it, and starting it over; it's tailor-made for this landscape, and we didn't get very far. plus, it's been a long time since we've played, so i doubt you'd remember enough to make for an unfair advantage.

is anyone opposed to this? i wrote a lot for it, so i'd hate for it to go to waste...

yay. ^^if you can get digital copies i'd like to review them, and partially since then i have a copy of everyone's. it'd be nice if everyone could have up to chapter 6 read (chapter 7 if you feel ambitious), if you haven't already. if you're already familiar with the material, go ahead and skim, but the early chapters provide the terminology while the later ones provide useful game info.

also, did we do stuff like initiative rolls last time? if possible i'd like to do it more by the book, so we have consistency and fairness.

(also, i'll send both of you .pdf copies of the book, but since it's in black & white [sorry], here's (http://www.amazon.com/Changeling-Dreaming-Second-Richard-Dansky/dp/1565047168/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1328141894&sr=1-1) a link to amazon, where currently the cheapest used copy is under $15.)

i was planning on starting the fullmap of Ashberg later; i started coming up with more detailed maps, like finishing the map of Chester Square and the Shopping District. i doubt it'll be posted today, but by the end of the weekend expect it. and it'll be big, so i'd reccomend downloading it and using whatever picture viewer you prefer to see it.

How about characters? Are we redoing anything there?

I kinda want to rehash mine. Not make a new one entirely, but remake him a bit...

My character needs no modification because I always play the same one.

Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 02, 2012, 05:32:07 PM
@bella: lol, like me. xD
@nej: character modification is fine. if you wanted to you could remake him, but i like cilvarge and am happy you're keeping him. :3

also, i should note that the required reading can be commuted to reading the changeling introductory kit if you can't make it through the pages. plus, the kit is in colour. :\
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Nichi on February 05, 2012, 07:59:53 PM
I'd only advice reading the Introductory Kit to get a basic idea of how the game works, as I did notice some details where missing when it came time to make my character (Thankfully, our friendly Storyteller was able to point me in the right direction :3)

Also, I almost have my character finished. Now, to compile all my info onto a proper character sheet
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 05, 2012, 08:59:01 PM
yeah, the intro kit seems to be sorely lacking in some basic terms and such. that said, reading the intro kit and then skimming the chapters might be an alright solution to this. the chapters often have tables filled with key info, so reading those might be good.

to keep this thread alive, some updates!

my sister has officially been added to the roster, so that makes for a total of 5 players (minus me) now. i'm likely going to get her an account here, the same way nej did for clone. :3

the city is almost done; i have 5 districts to go. specifically, Chilter Hill and Alice Hill were completed today, and i'll put them into the official map later. if anyone wants to have input on the remaining 5, or have looks at the rough sketches, let me know!

I've started typing and revising the plot. namely i'm expanding a few scenes and patching a couple plot holes. if anyone has a freehold or a special location in the game that they lay claim to (a nightclub they own, a shop they run/work at, a school they attend), i'd like a description or input in making one (this includes naming the place if it doesn't have one already). this can be an interesting way to give your character some depth; as changeling are dual characters, they have dual natures. we see so much of the supernatural side, it leaves one to wonder, what's the mundane half like? do they have a job, and if so what and where? what's their family like? do they have any hobbies or favourite places?

talk to you all over skype, though it'd be nice if we could have some discussion here, too. :3

ps: i still want .pdfs of your character sheets! if you don't have the paid version of adobe reader, download foxit reader to edit .pdf files. so far i only have 2/6 main characters! >>;

update me either here or skype. if it's something big like a freehold, announce it here, since 2 characters have freeholds too, and it's good to keep track. :3

one of the things i ask of you guys is to be available on skype. i'm getting to the point where i'm ready to start, and i need to go over last details with everyone, such as reviewing and approving characters, and making sure that any claims you stake in the city get put in.

for example under this, nejin, you need to tweak your character. you took too many points of flaws, and i'm not sure you understand how the freebie point system works.

also, if everyone else is ready, i was thinking of starting next weekend. is that cool?

First post! Hello, this is Choco's sister here; yes the Pirate. Hi Nej! If we start next weekend that is fine, I will just be posting from Ohio. Oh yes, to Pentium; I will be playing Katie (your mentor). Just so you know, she is a cynical perfectionist who will bash your work and make you do better. She will no be out-rightly mean, but more motivational-jerk.

@Choco- Naw, Chinese is like the second night in. We are arriving on the 15th (Wed) in the afternoon, and staying until the 19th (Sunday). I am hoping to have Chinese on Thursday night, maybe Friday night. We are apparently house-bouncing and his grandparents just have to meet me and feed us...(Sounds like our gram!)

@Pentium= We should go over the details of how our characters know each other before game start so we can get things settled easily. I am thinking that since we are now both going to the same school, Katie is going to be about 16 or so; so she might do a free-study thing where she TA's with a teacher or the librarian or something. Figured chat with you and Choco to hammer out the details.

@Nej- I am the knocker who enjoys working on her motorcycle, creeping out the people on her condo block, reading and swearing until S*** works right dammit! Also, helping out younger changelings and playing with her cat are fun pastimes. *Giggle manically*

The gist is I'm home next weekend.

that's fine, and it ties into what i have to say next.

PEOPLE. CAN I ASK SOMETHING OF YOU.

IF YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY, JUST SAY IT. DON'T AVOID THE ISSUE, DON'T PUT IT OFF, DON'T BEAT AROUND THE BUSH. JUST GET IT OUT AND BE DIRECT. REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT IS WE'RE ALL FRIENDS HERE.

this means that if you can't make a game, if you're having problems with something (plot, character, other character, etc), if something is upsetting you, TELL ME ABOUT IT. nothing will be done unless you SPEAK THE FUCK UP. ><;;

thankyou. :3

what does everyone think of adding an additional player? this would make 7 PCs and 1 NPC.

I don't care HOW many people you bring on. Unless it gets to a point where there are so many players that the game becomes difficult to play. ^^;
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 18, 2012, 10:54:26 PM
thanks for that. ^^ the person in particular i wanted to bring on doesn't seem to have too much to do anymore, so i figured including him will give him some more social interaction. :3 he says he won't be able to make every game, but i've played with him before and he takes things quite seriously, so i think we can count on him for quality roleplay. ^^

(4/7 people on board)

Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 19, 2012, 01:08:06 PM
i want to ask everyone since some people (including me, for the most part, but this is a special case) feel that too large a group takes away from the game. my major concern is that not everyone will get a voice; as it stands all battles are going to be tedious due to the number of turns. ><;; the usual amount i like to have is 4 players + me as the storyteller, since that means that turnover in roleplay and fight scenes happens rather fast. however, considering we have a lot of people who sincerely want to play, i'm not going to turn anyone away. on the contrary, considering that most of you have integrated yourselves into the environment, the roleplay becomes that much richer.

TL;DR: sometimes a large number hinders play, hopefully we can overcome that. my only fears here are that the more experienced roleplayers might overshadow the newbies, or that people will get rather bored since with 8+ characters interacting at once, it may take awhile for turns to come full circle. :\

i'm likely going to try to build plot mechanisms to overcome this, such as splitting the players into 2 groups for things. hopefully, even during the times when this isn't possible, people will be willing to be attentive. the last thing i want to do is make you guys feel obligated to play. :[

and it is! ^^ got it back about 45 minutes ago. if it goes down again (god help me), we have a generator. i doubt it will, but this wind is showing no signs of letting up, and i guess we're supposed to have up to 60mph gusts. :\

that said, i'd like everyone present to report in 4-5pm. the extra player i mentioned has shown no sign of activity, so the ideal list is as follows:

me
pentium
bella
stew
nejin
jack
alex

however, jack and alex's friend jon has chosen TODAY to restart a game he's running. alex was a player when the game was running months ago, so he's rather required to participate. i've told him that if he can't devote the time needed, he's out. i know he really wants to play, so if he can make it regularly, then i'll let him stay on. but he knows that if he can't make it regularly, then that's that.

that said, game is on for 5pm est. please report in at least 20 minutes before.

EDIT: i'll also be running practice rolls beforehand for those who feel new to this.

Cilvarge (Nej)
Jason (Alex)
[Name] (Mel)

Stew said he wanted to write a new character, so if he's still on board, he'll be there with a new face.
Bella, idk if you still want to play. if you do, then you're in. but i should say, you should play because YOU want to, not because of /dependent on anyone else. :\

also, a request: be respectful of other people when typing. if you see someone is typing something (particularly if they don't post as much as someone else), please let them finish. also, try to be slower in your replies. just because someone has posted doesn't mean you have to post right back. let other people get in on the conversation and then formulate a thoughtful reply. better n' filling up the chat with meaningless squabble. :\

let's try again next week >>;

Sorry for bailing, but seeing Stew puss out and try to wriggle his way out of the game in the underhanded way imaginable threw my confidence a lot, because of ALL the people in the world I could imagine engaging in that kind of wankery, he was pretty much the last person I'd expect. That and things weren't really moving very well/the persistent arguing of Nej's and Jackie's characters was irritating me/Kari's power going out kind of ruined any mood i was in to play.

it's alright. hence why i say last night was one big hot mess.

that said, i want you to be there because YOU want to be there, okay? :\ that said, i'm going to put my foot down about character squabbling. if ANYONE (regardless of who they are) starts jabbering like that again (in OR out of game), i will silence their characters for the rest of the game session. any breaking of this rule will result in forcible expulsion from the game session. sorry to be harsh, but then again, i'm not. ><;;

as it turns out, Alex's character (Jason) can only be part time. :\ considering his desire to play and that i know he'll do a good job of it, i've decided to let him stay despite the fact that he'll only be there every other game. :\

also, considering people were having trouble grasping some mechanics of the game (rolls and whatnot), i'm considering making a "Resource Pack" for it. basically that'll entail me making a comic explaining the rules, mechanics, ect. of the game. i figured a visual format would be easier to grasp. :3

*sigh*

it has come to my attention that some of you have a problem with me. more specifically, how i run my games. here is a post to address these issues:

legal vs illegal moves:

just because you don't like something doesn't make it illegal. using glamour to counteract a cantrip? legal. counterweaving a cantrip? legal. soaking damage? super legal. these are the rules set down in the book, and in my games. if you don't like a move, yelling and screaming about how lame it is doesn't do anything but serve to make you look like an idiot.

is the dm's character a player:

yes. despite what you may think or may have experienced in other games, this one is real. White Wolf games are quite, quite different from other roleplay systems. This isn't D&D where i tell you about a dungeon and you go fight in it. Changeling and WW games in general are so much more than that. the system of play and rules are simpler than D&D, but this makes the game much more complicated. the plot aspect is much harder on me as the coordinator, as with D&D you have no choice but to stick around in the dungeon or similar area. here in changeling, you have so many more options, that i stick you with a guide to make sure you're not just wandering around aimlessly. you may call me controlling, but if i didn't give you a goal to follow, we wouldn't be doing shit, we'd just be rambling on like what happened in the Gender Flipped RP. without a target, the gun has nothing to shoot. without a goal, we have nothing to play.

i'm sure i could be an omniscient, unnamed presence in this game, but that's not how i roll. i've been doing this for years and this is the first time i've gotten a complaint from my players. actually, most people have regarded me as a better storyteller than usual for this game due to the balance of combat vs RP.

also, for the record, I'M NOT A DM. THERE IS NO DUNGEON TO MASTER. I AM A STORYTELLER. there's a big difference there. you got a problem with any of these statements, read the damn book. i have cover to cover 4 times.

"bashing down [the players'] every attempt at doing something out of line":

i'd like specific examples on this. if you're talking about when people got teleported back into the subway, just think of all the video games where you try to swim/walk/fly out of the predesignated area, and are blocked by a force field or something similar. the platforms were not a defined area at that point, thus your characters could not access them.

if you're talking about countering something in battle, i refer you to the "legal vs illegal moves' section.

if anyone has more examples on this, i'd love to hear them.

while you're allowed to mastermind and engineer every single aspect of the game, don't expect your players to like it"

this one actually makes me laugh. have you EVER experienced a game where you liked EVERY aspect of it? if so, i'd like to hear about that game, since i figure it'd be interesting to propose to my class. one of the things we discussed there was the value of conflict, both directly in the game and even with the game itself.
for instance, you may not like every mission in GTA, but you still play, because it's a cool game and some of the missions are fun.

if i sugarcoat it to the point where players will like EVERY ASPECT AND IT'LL BE SO NICE AND FUN AND HAPPY, then it will be the most stupid, arbitrary game that ever existed. another thing we discussed in class was keeping games from being too arbitrary, as the more they are, the less fun they are. (example: tic-tac-toe and its constant stalemate)

if someone is going to ragequit just because they've encountered something they don't like, maybe they shouldn't be playing in the first place.

dragging things out
whether it's due to complaints, things needing to be explained, or extended break time (or something else), no one likes it when play drags on. it makes the game tedious and difficult to play, and it's detrimental to the game itself. if you have a beef with something, wait till a break or after the game to voice it; wasting time that could be better spent playing is counterproductive. we're here to play, after all.

'Astrid just outright attacked us'

no, no she didn't. i gave you warning.
Quote from: kari[3/3/2012 7:16:23 PM] chocofreak887: As they approach, the broach they received from Ed begins to glow, and the nearby supernaturals scatter. Before they realize it, they are being attacked.

even before i posted that you were getting your weapons ready. Astrid didn't even act till the last turn! that was PLENTY of time to formulate actions, so this argument is quite invalid.

you throw lame Banality in my face when i do something nice

i refer you to the legal vs illegal moves section.

you came out of nowhere and went "LOL ULTIMA SPAM"

i haven't the slightest clue where you're getting this from. Astrid's stats are balanced, unlike some of the players who decided to put their characters on battle mode steroids. she's a troll, so obv. she's going to be physically strong. she's a lady, so she's experienced in combat. and she's a fallen princess, so she has some powerful magic under her belt. these are all within character and all legal. and for that matter, SHE was the ONLY one who received damage! she attacked someone a couple times, mostly unsuccessfully. she cast an art twice, leading to someone being frozen (ONCE) and a cantrip being frozen. other than that, she mainly just held her ground.

as for her freezing a character in place, this didn't even do any damage, really. and you all had plenty of opportunities to get him out. he could have screamed (would have been muffled by the ice but it would have been audible), he could have wiggled around to try to loosen the coating, or another player could have stepped in to try to break the ice, melt the ice, or get their tongue stuck to the ice like in It's A Wonderful Life. you are only limited in your actions by your imagination (provided you run anything crazy by me first; all of those things would have been acceptable solutions to your problem). it's all about THINKING OF IT.

if you think i godmodded anything, well, i'd call you mistaken. but even so, it's my job as the coordinator/storyteller to have a little more power. after all, if you had just knocked Astrid flat on the ground, the game would have ended there. however, Astrid as a character is no more overpowered than any of you. on the contrary, i'd argue that some of you are more powerful than she. for example, she only has one art, one realm. she has no merits. she knows nothing about computers or how to persuade people. everyone has their strong suits. it's all about being patient enough to see them shine.

Quote from: pentiumIt's not like you came out of nowhere and went "LOL ULTIMA SPAM", like he seems to claim
You gave us fair warning, we brandished our weapons, and prepared for what was coming

if anyone has any more issues with me, please, SAY THEM TO MY FACE.

now then, while we're on the topic, my issues with all of you! ^^

backseat DMing

whether or not you own up to it, if you tell me how to do my job, this is exactly what you're doing. mind you, while i'm not a DM, it's the same principle here as it is in all tabletop games: telling the person how to do their job is NEVER a way to garner favour. if you have an issue with how i do things, how about you try running a game yourself?

and for that matter, it adds insult to injury when i'm getting feedback of this nature from people who've never run a White Wolf game or never run a game in general.

peanut-gallery

this ties in with the former post! getting heckled is never fun, especially when i'm in such a precarious position as it is. what seems to you like "harmless feedback" is to me "HEY, YOU SUCK AT THIS, DO IT THIS WAY". all feedback should be left for during breaks or after the game anyway.

not having your own opinion

don't say you have an issue with me and then don't back it up, or worse yet, get someone else to back it up for you. how do i know how you REALLY feel if you just jump on the bandwagon of another's thoughts? never mind that you won't be able to articulate those thoughts unless you say them yourself.

making/assuming opinions for others

another frustrating one! don't speak for others. instead, encourage them to speak for themselves. provided they remain open to discussion and retain a calm, rational attitude sans sarcasm or snark, i'm always open to feedback. it's when people attempt to browbeat me into doing something either by attempted intimidation or, more commonly, fast-paced arguing (aka not letting me get a word in edgewise), or get their panties all in a bunch over things that are trival or that i won't do that i don't want to talk to you. taking an attitude with me isn't good. SPEAKING ALL IN CAPS ISN'T GOOD. fucking swearing every other fucking word isn't fucking good. speak in calm, concise sentences with clear arguments, and i'll be perfectly willing to talk about gameplay issues with you.

that sums up this post. if you have anything else to say and are going to say it like an adult instead of a child's tantrum, then i'll listen wholeheartedly. i'm doing this because i wanted to have fun with everyone. i've devoted weeks of my time to this (mostly in class!!!) to make this game kickass, and if i get nothing but whining and grief from everyone, i'm not going to do a damn thing for you anymore. why should i spend my time on this if it's just gonna come back and bite me in the ass?

I could comment on the various modifications you've done to make your statement seem more viable, but I won't. You have zero capacity to listen and accept any sort of assessment of flaws given to you. I will thus not bother to give you any more than what I've already done, since it'd only make us both angrier and feed the internet yet another rage rant, of which it has all too many already.

You made an effort, it fell back on you. DEAL WITH IT, IT HAPPENS. You wanted to have fun, some did, some did not, some choose to complain, you rage. DEAL WITH IT. Not gonna do another damn thing? WE WILL DEAL WITH IT. No matter what happens on any sort of personal level, the world and the rest of the people will go on. Ragequitting excludes YOU from the group and the activity, not the activity from the group. You Are Not The Center Of The Universe.

Finally,
Quoteif you have an issue with how i do things, how about you try running a game yourself?
You might have noticed a certain effort of mine to do this (including translating much part of a damn rulebook), that went about before winter, but died because I respected people having exams and whatnot, and when I suggested reviving an RP effort, it was ramshodded into this one instead.

Stop making an even bigger ass of yourself than you already have.

*slow clap*

i'm trying to be mature here. calling me names isn't exactly what i'd call mature.

as for your mutant game, i have my character ready. i've been waiting for word on that game for months. however, when i was saying "run a game yourself", i was referring to one of the White Wolf series, since you seem not to believe me when i say they are RADICALLY different from other systems, esp. D&D.

you didn't read my post at all, did you? i'm willing to listen IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE COHERENT. this includes being calm and ceasing the snark and name calling. this also includes making a CLEAR argument. i couldn't understand half of your arguments because they were so damn vague.

when did i state that last part? no, seriously, WHEN? cause i don't remember it and i don't remember anyone besides you making that claim.
as for the ragequitting bit, the only one excluded is YOU. YOU'VE excluded yourself from this simply because you didn't win something. if you'd stuck around instead of chucking your script to the ground and storming off like a primadonna, you'd have seen that Astrid froze you in place to have a PEACEFUL resolution to the conflict. that said, ragequitting serves no purpose than to turn the quitter into a martyr. the rest of us had fun. the rest of us plan to have fun next week. whether or not you're part of that group is for you to decide.

give me a call once you grow up, please. in the meantime, we're going to be playing the game i've laid out. we'd love to have you join if you can handle it.

thanks, you reminded me of it.

my sister had a great suggestion: she and her fiancee alex play in a dungeons & dragons game that he runs every sunday. but due to his father's work schedule, they're switching the timing for that game to every other sunday. so she suggested that i occupy the off days with this game. it would fill the void both of them have, plus it means they could both play. also, it would give me plenty of time inbetween to work out character and plot details and whatnot, which is helpful given my schedule. it means that even when i'm hit with finals, we likely could still play.

think about it and get back to me, though i might just make this automatic. though i'd like to know what everyone thinks.

dammit.

maybe there's a way we can work this out so it works for everyone? with nej gone i'd really like to have my sister and her fiancee play, since while all of you are wonderful players, the experience helps a little. plus, they just had some interesting characters they wanted to play.

speaking of which, does anyone have any ideas on how to get stupid nej back? i'm not going to go to him and beg or whatever, but he was a rather valuable player, and his freehold was written into the plot a couple times. i won't be the one to ask, since i'm expecting a rather large confrontation if i do, including much swearing and immaturity. however, if someone wants to take on that challenge, i'd be quite grateful. said person would also be tasked with putting him in his place too though. :\

i was going to suggest a revivial tomorrow, but that seems a bit too short notice. xD so how about June 2nd? i'm thinking earlier in the afternoon (so no one misses toonami, lol). maybe 1-5pm or so? reply if you're joining up, but the list so far was

me
nej (yes, i convinced him to join back up)
pent

also, i should mention that the suggestion box idea is closed. i was looking forward to some cool stuff, but we have too many writers here to make that possible (too many cooks in this kitchen). with that in mind, i am going to make the roles a bit more clear: I am the storyteller, YOU are the players. you wouldn't walk into a restaraunt and go into the kitchen to tell the chef how to do his job. so just sit back and play, and leave the plot to me, please. :3

will sit and await a reply~~

As a question, what fields do I need to reset on Gardenia's character sheet; so she's ready to roll for the reboot of our adventure? I'm fairly certain the Banality needs to be reset, but any other fields?

you didn't gain anything, so nothing. if someone wrote down that they were holding the broach, then get rid of that, as Ed has it again.

under no circumstances are you going to erase that banality. you didn't gain any temporary banality, meaning all the stuff you have you'd have anyway at the start.

Most importantly his character is pretty different...

A lot less dark & edgy for the heck of it, a VIABLE EXPLANATION for his schoolgirl harem (Appearance 5 and Surreal Beauty lol), more sidhe-y things like Etiquette/Persuasion skilling, less specialization (but he's still strong combat-wise, just not as crazily op as he was), magic rework (Wayfare instead of Naming), BACKSTORY LULZ for both Cilvarge and the Rift Blade (he stole it from the Unseelie court to gain his title), Seelie Court, Paladin, AND SUCH THINGS.

Oh yeah, he's also a dancer. For lulz.

@Kari: All right. I swear I remember gaining some form of temporary something (I want to say temporary glamour, right before we fought Astrid), but it's been a while; I might not be remembering it right ^_^;

Reporting in, as you requested :3

The only concern I have to raise is when we play on June 16th. My return flight is at about 3PM, and because of the long drive home, I won't be online until probably 8PM or something. If everybody else wants to play on that day, you can go ahead without me and give me a synopsis when I return, but otherwise, you may have to delay. The 9th is still good; as I arrive a little after lunch.

They do offer on-board wifi, but if I want to do more than access the airline's website to check flight status and such, I have to pay. This could work, but you'd need to get home fast after dropping me off at the airport; so we can get in as much game time as possible before I arrive home

Well, unless I happen to find a satellite uplink AND a laptop in the absolute wilderness of a national park at 67'N (that's 6 degrees north of fucking Anchorage), at least the two first weeks of July are gone for sure. I say at least, because it's really not clear how many days it'll take for us to wander across a few hundred kilometers of wilderness on foot. After that I go down to our summer villa. I should be able to steal someone's smartphone and route through, but don't take that for given.

So yes, I might accidentally a whole month. It's not like I've been keeping quiet about it.

now then, NEW RULE: IF YOU MAKE A CHARACTER USING RESOURCES THAT I HAVE NOT PROVIDED, GIVE THEM TO ME FOR APPROVAL. SAME GOES FOR CHARACTERS; IF I DON'T APPROVE OF HOW IT'S DONE, IT'S NOT DONE.

Post by: Chocofreak13 on June 02, 2012, 11:35:56 PM
thanks to the turn-based system, things went a hell of a lot smoother this time around!! from now on, all games will start with a deciding roll to determine order. (think of it as who's sitting first around the virtual "table".)

this begins the logs of the game.

[7:58:21 PM] Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -game start-

The players wake up dazed and confused, on a subway train. Looking around the car, there are other occupants on the train: a mother and child, a construction worker, an elderly couple, and a college student. Just as they are about to react, they being pulling into a stop marked "Snyder".
per + alert roll, plz.
(diff 6)
[8:01:05 PM] Nejin: 4 successes
(小 光): there is a detailed subway map on the inside of the car. you're on the east half of the red line. (refer to the subway map, if you have it.)
[8:03:12 PM] PentiumMMX: 2 successes
(小 光): you notice a colourful map on the wall.
[8:13:21 PM] Mel: 6 successes
(小 光): You see a detailed subway map of all 5 lines of the Ashberg Subway. you can see you're currently on the red line, headed east.
The mother and child have gotten off. Before the players can react, the train is moving again.
(WHAT YOU DO)
-pause-
-unpause-
Gardenia was sitting quietly in her seat; confused by why she was suddenly on the subway. Ignoring the feeling of deja vu, she wished that she was able to get a better look at the map on the wall
Medea tries to remember how she ended up on the subway but can't. She sees by the map she's already over half way to the last stops to decides to continue on.
Cilvarge pays little attention to the map, now that he knows where he is. He must've slumbered for a moment and come back around on the subway - he was originally going back to Chilter Hill on the other end of the line. He takes a few papers up from his backpack and starts reviewing a few papers from his students.

(小 光): the players can feel something twitch in their pockets!!!
Upon feeling a weird sensation in her pockets, Gardenia reaches in to figure out what was in there.
Medea digs through the folds in her skirt to find her pockets not remembering putting something in there.
Cilvarge quickly takes his cell from the same pocket, "answers", hisses "Not now, Hatter!", clicks, and keeps reading.
After which he realizes something else came out too, which he then picks up.

(小 光): A search of the pockets reveals the exact same note in all of their pockets:

END OF THE LINE
                     9PM

Gardenia began to ponder to herself why she'd be going to the end of the line
Medea looks at her watch to see the time. She has no idea why she's going there but doesn't want to be late.
Cilvarge crumples the note, mutters "Well that's bloody stupid" and throws it away, mumbling on about "bloody court business".
(小 光): The train pulls into the next stop.
(小 光): Per + Alert Roll (diff 6)
PentiumMMX: 2 suc
Nejin: 2s
Mel: 3
(小 光): Cilvarge and Gardenia: it's 8:47. given the slight fatigue you're feeling and the lack of people, you figure it's PM.
(小 光): Medea: It's 8:47 pm, and you've just headed east, towards the End of the Line stop.
(小 光): The construction worker gets off at this stop, labeled Jefferton Avenue.
Feeling tired, Gardenia began to wonder how much longer until the train arrives at their destination
Medea waits patiently for the train to reach the last stop, where the note said to get off.
Seeing as there aren't many trains running this time of day, Cilvarge figures he'd have to take this same one back anyway, so he remains seated, reviewing his students' papers. At one point he stands up and screams, "Bloody hell NO, Ashleigh, what are you THINKING!"
After which he sits down and grumbles again.

(小 光): As time goes on, the college student gets off at Bunker, and the elderly couple at Oakdale. Just as the train begins to pull into End of the Line, it slows.....then picks up speed to double max speed. Those sitting are thrown sideways.
As Gardenia hit the wall beside her, suddenly she found herself more awake...and slightly irritated and confused
Medea is ablw to grab hold of a pole to prevent her from going too far. She looks out the window trying to catch sight of anything.
Cilvarge, whose perfect balance keeps him perfectly level, is entirely unnoticing of what's going on. He keeps reading.

(小 光): After what feels like a minute (approx. 24 seconds), the train stops short.
(小 光): The doors release, and once the dust settles they are in an underground freehold. Various supernaturals are gathered around small fires, most casting distrustful glances at them. "Ed wants to see ya," a gruff-looking knocker in a conductor's cap and suspenders says to them. He pushes down on a large switch, and the train begins to move backward. As the players advance, they see a figure sitting on a large seat in front of a wall of fire.
"Who is Ed?", Gardenia asked the knocker
"Ed...." Medea repeats quietly to herself as she looks around at the freehold. Being underground and in the dark she feels right at home.
"This freehold is soggy! What sort of janitors do you hire anyway, Redcaps?" Cilvarge keeps reading and muttering as he walks out.

(小 光): "HELLLLOOOOOO, TRAVELLERS!!', the figure shouts. Coming closer, they can see she is a young Corgie pooka who looks suspiciously like Ed from Cowboy Bebop. "You're finally here~~~" she says, getting up and hugging the closest party member.
"Are you Ed?", Gardenia asked, thinking this person looked familiar; like maybe she saw her in a TV show or something
"Hello to you too," Medea says a little surprised by the hug. She pokes at the Corgie ears and pats her on the head a bit.
"Go die in a fire! Actually, there's one right over there! Don't disturb the professor while he's reading!" Cilvarge still seems to be rather oblivious about what's going on (he's still reading, and sort of thinks he's in class).
(小 光): "Ed needs your help! Vincent has a favour to ask!" she says, gesturing to the right. out of the shadows walks Vincent, a mid-20's knocker. "My brother Simon killed my father. I've always wanted vengance, but the timing was never right, especially since now I have my daughter. What you can do for me is to find him, and END him."

"You mean, I have to kill him?" Gardenia said; uncomfortable over the thought of doing that
"Why us?" Medea asks. "What makes us so special? Why should we seek revenge for you?"
Cilvarge suddenly snaps to attention when the word "kill" is mentioned. "Well if you were out for a contract, just say so. My rates are usually pretty favorable when the Court's involved. Details, boy?"

(小 光): "Ed'll pay you THIIIIIS MUUUCH~!" Ed says, stretching out her arms like she's preparing for another hug. "Simon is a threat to our whole community, so getting rid of him is also like a public~service~~!" Ed continues, prancing around.
"I have a bad feeling about this...", she said; slightly worried about the possibiltiy of being forced to end another person's life
"Pay us with what?" Medea asks. "Do we get to choose?"
"Couldn't you just have sent me a damn e-mail, seriously?" Cilvarge huffs.
(小 光): Ed looks confused. she pulls a roll of bills out of her pocket and shows it to Medea, before putting it back in.
(小 光): She gives a gigantic grin to Cilvarge.

(小 光): "He keeps a low profile!! ^^ So here are his last known whereabouts! Now go to it, angels!! Ed says cheerfully, as the crowd begins to push them back towards the subway platform.
"Well, it doesn't look like I have much of a choice" Gardenia said; as she was pushed back into the train car
"I hope we get around chance to see Ed," Medea says more to herself. "I want to ask her some questions....."
"WHY HAVEN'T YOU SHOWN ME YOUR BOOBS YOU FILTHY CRETIN" Cilvarge yells as he's pushed back.
(小 光): As they reach it, another train pulls up. The doors open and they are shoved inside. Just before the train leaves, Ed bounds up to them. "Waaa--aaa--aaait!! You're going to need help here!! Ed says you need to find Astrid! Take this and she'll find yoooouuu~~~" Ed says, twirling off as she hands the nearest player a bumblebee shaped broach.
Taking a seat, Gardenia was thinking over everything; wondering who Astrid is, and if this person is friendly or not
"Ed gave you the note, right?" Medea asks, turning to Cilvarge. "What does it say?"
"Well don't be brash, young lady, I haven't read it yet!" Cilvarge brumbles off before rolling the note up and reading it aloud.

(小 光): Back on the train, the kids will look at the paper they were given to find this:

LAST SEEN IN CHESTER SQ., ON HOPE ST.
(ROCKMORE STOP, RED LINE)

SIMON IS TALLISH, SHAGGY BROWN SHOULDER-LENGTH HAIR,
AMBER-GOLD EYES, USUALLY WEARING JEAN

Nejin: "Egads! Jeans! This man has no style! I need my heavy equipment for this. We should have a little strategy meeting, folks!
"I think we should go there next", Gardenia suggested to the group
"Shouldn't we find this Astrid character first?" Medea asks. "After all Ed said we'll need her help."
"I think you fine ladies should join me in my quarters for a spot of tea, and a strategy meeting! It's always easier to do a hit properly if you've planned ahead. Oh, and tea."
"True that" Gardenia said to Medea
"I agree on the planning ahead part," Medea says to Cilvarge. "But finding Astrid should be first in my opinion. If we're going to need their help, then we should plan with them present."
"Ah, fine. I suppose this Astrid lass is likely to be just as charming as you two, and the more charm the better, am I right? Yes I am. Allons-y!"

(小 光): Once they reach the correct stop, they will get off and go up to find themselves right in the middle of Chester Square.
"So, where do we go?" Gardenia asked. "I don't think we'll find Astrid by standing around"
"Maybe with the item Ed gave us?" Medea suggests.
"This sonic screwd- I mean, this device we received should surely come in handy! Allons-y!"

PentiumMMX: "There's Hope Street. Should we try going that way?"
"It's a huge street," Medea says looking to her left. "But it's as good as place as any to start."

"My freehold senses are tingling" Gardenia said; trying to fing out what direction to go in
"Where is the freehold?" Medea asks.
"It's right up the street, ladies. Move along!" Cilvarge marches on.

"Follow me, guys; this seems promising" she said; waiving for the others to follow
Medea straightens the layers on her skirt and follows after Gardenia.
Cilvarge enjoys the view and prances onwards with a big grin on his face.
(小 光): (everyone gains 2 points of temp glamour)
(小 光): There are some changelings nearby, with a couple other supernaturals.
(小 光): As the party approaches, the broach begins to glow, giving off a warm, brightish light.
"Now this is what I call sonic!" Cilvarge yells.
(小 光): The supernaturals scatter as they get closer.
Having a feeling something was about to happen, Gardenia slips on her goggles and listens carefully; for any signs
Medea pulls out a small packet of matches and keeps her eyes open. She steps closer to Gardenia to the girls are now back to back.
"Well this bloody trinket was damn useless! Seriously! What did I get this for anyway, I want my money back!" Cilvarge stomps his feet, takes the brooch and

10 meters up in the sky, he draws his swords.
"HAVE AT THEE!"

(小 光): Astrid charges up, scraping her sword on the ground as she scoops up the broach.
(小 光): She stops and quickly rises from her crouched pose, reaching into her belt and taking out some gum. Popping it in her mouth, she begins chewing.

Tossing her rope onto the ground toward Astrid, Gardenia began to move her hands like she was holding the rope with mittens on; in an effort to manipulate it
PentiumMMX: 3 suc
(小 光): The rope swoops down and wraps itself around Astrid's arm, immoblizing her sword along with it. She struggles against, the rope, slowly moving her arm.

"If you're Astrid, then please listen to us," Medea calls as loud as her voice as a sluagh can. "Ed sent us to find you. We need your help."
(小 光): Astrid snarls in her direction. "LET'S SEE YOU TALK THAT WAY ONCE YOU COOL OFF!
(小 光): Astrid closes her eyes and blows a single kiss in the direction of the fire wall.
(小 光): A mist seeps out with the kiss, coating everything in a fine frost. The wall of fire freezes solid from the point of impact. Caught in the crossfire is Gardenia's jumprope, which now weakened by the ice, shatters towards the end of the rope, freeing her.

"NO CHEWING GUM IN CLASS! IT'S DETENTION FOR YOU!" Cilvarge roars from upon high.
MANFALL: CHARGING FROM ABOVE LIKE A BOSS
(小 光): "Already graduated, Grandpa!!" She retorts with a smirk.
Cilvarge draws his second blade as he gets closer to the ground.
(小 光): Astrid attempts to dodge
"YES! WITH STRAIGHT F'S, YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF REDCAP SHIT!"
*clash*
Nejin: 6succ

"EXPELLED, MISS! EXPELLED!" Cilvarge yells, then takes the sword and FLIES UP AGAIN.
"I AM CONFISCATING THIS!"
(小 光): Astrid rises to her feet slowly, and, shaking her fist at him in the air, curses in thick swedish. "DRA ÅT HELVETE, DIN JÄVEL!"
Nejin: "I SEE YOU FAILED ENGLISH CLASS AS WELL, YOU SHITHEAP!"

Because she lost her rope, Gardenia decided to attempt something crazy. She began to do a few squats, before starting to run in place to get herself warmed up
PentiumMMX: 4 suc
(小 光): Gardenia begins running in a circle, ensnaring Astrid within it as it gets faster. Gradually, she begins to tighten the circle, whipping the air around into a miniature cyclone. Astrid is gradually lifted a few feet off the ground.
(小 光): As Astrid floats in a sort of air-stasis, she bites down hard on her gum, and exhales.
(小 光): Her exuded breath forms an icy layer over the ground. The sheer surface slips up Gardenia, breaking the cyclone.
(小 光): Astrid falls 15 feet and hits her head on the ground, knocking her out. The broach, safely tucked away on her person, ceases to glow.

@nej: but that's awesome!! late-night gaming is one of my favourite ways to play, since things get so crazy! changeling is supposed to be insane, and that just makes it more awesome. you know you're doing something right when you're making the DM laugh their ass off. xDDDD
@pent: but of course. -w-

if it wasn't mentioned before, i'd appriciate it if people could let me know AHEAD OF TIME if they can't make it. common courtesy, srsly. >>;;

Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on June 10, 2012, 12:31:31 AM
(小 光): -game start-

(小 光): The group gathers around Astrid, who is lying in a small pool of blood on the pavement.
Medea approaches Astrid and tries to lift her head in order to see where the blood is coming from. "Don't suppose anyone has a first aid kit?" She asks.
(小 光): A male satyr trots up.
Cockle: Gary runs up to the group, shoving strangers to the side to allow him access to the injured woman. He kneels down on the concrete and presses his hand to her collarbone, feeling for any breaks. His hand comes up bloody, and he wipes it on his coat. Angry, panicked mumbling ensues, and he snatches his phone out of his pocket and runs outside to make a few messages, leaving bloody shoeprints on the doorstep.
(小 光): Astrid stirs slightly.
Gardenia runs over to Astrid's size; concerned over how rough that battle was. "Are you ok?" she asked
"I'm fairly certain she's definitely not, girl," Cilvarge snorts. "When things go CRACK in your head, that's not a good sign - you don't need to be a doctor to know that. The only question is, do we need to get her to the hospital FAST, or do we need to get her there INSTANTLY? Nurse?"
"A hospital would be best," Medea says. "But I'm not sure if she would be happy there. For all we know she could try to attack us again when she wakes up."
Running back in a flurry, Gary huffs "We need to get to the hospital on the West Side. My friends said they can be here in 10 minutes tops, but I'm not sure we can make it. Does anyone have a vehicle?" He shouts at the group. Winded, he comes to a stop next to Astrid and kneels down to cup his hand around the back of her head, stopping the blood spurting out. He pulls a wetwipe out of his front left pocket and dabs the blood off the wound, applying even pressure on the fractured bone. The blood runs warm down his hand, and he tries to keep her head still.
(小 光): Astrid rolls over on her side, moaning lightly.
Gardenia begins to wish she was old enough to drive
"She is not going to last ten minutes, and you know that. And whatever vehicle we use it would take more than that to get her into an operating room. Which leads us to..."
Cilvarge sighs heavily. "Why do I have to do this sort of thing for this ungrateful bitch anyway..." He grumbles.
Cilvarge draws his blades again, and draws a circle around the party, then jams them into the ground.
A low, rumbling bass tone thunders from somewhere underneath as Cilvarge stands right in the middle of the circle and clasps his hands.
He whispers: "Fire of lightning, lightning of night, pierce reality like an arrow in flight!"
*cast Flicker Flash*
(小 光): An aura begins to swirl around the party.
(小 光): The golden swirls of energy begin to rapidly envelop the characters, leaving them with a warm, calming glow.
(小 光): As the energy gets faster and faster, the aura shifts, with electricty forming.
He grasps the blades to make sure they come with too.
(小 光): The aura begins to go haywire, its caster losing control.
(小 光): With the blink of an eye, the cast is transported to the other side of the city, to a quiter region, with less bustling activity.

(小 光): An unlit sign on the shop in front of them reads "Cut  n' Colour Salon".
(小 光): Per + Alert
(小 光): (diff 7)
(小 光): Axu can tell this isn't Chester Square.
(小 光): Gardenia can tell she's close to home.
(小 光): Cilvarge can tell this is near the east side of town.
(小 光): Medea knows this is Morrows Square.
"Don't think Morrows Square is where we need to be," Medea says looking at the salon in front of them. "Unless this salon is a cleverly deguised hospital."
Gary's eyes slowly adjust to the new surroundings, and he slumps a bit onto his knee, scraping the ground with his heel. He turns to Cilvarge, eyes finding a flaming contempt of the bourgeoisie. "Damnit! You mystic fool! Toying with the forces of nature only ends in torment and despair!" His canines flash fiercely as he shouts, running out of breath till the last syllable. He slumps down, and touches his forehead to Astrid's, smearing a print of blood. "I will help you," He whispers in a low, resigned voice.
Gary shoves his hand into his pocket yet again, fumbling desperately for a remembered item. He pulls out a compress, holding it with shaking, bloody hands, and presses it to the back of Astrid's head. Pained shuddering is heard, and Gary sheds a lone tear for this lost soul imbued with such rage. He presses firmly, and the tear runs down his arm, down to his hand, to finally absorb into the stained compress. At first the cloth turns a corrupt black, but then lightens to luminesce, tendrils of magic winding up towards the fracture, embedding themselves, healing, refreshing. The trail of liquid left behind from the tear glows as well, while Gary shivers and shouts out as his power is drained. He slumps to the ground, unconscious next to Astrid.

(小 光): Astrid stirs.
(小 光): Her eyes open slowly, as she takes in her surroundings.
(小 光): She sits bolt upright.
(小 光): Darting away from the group, she scuffs on the ground as her boots slide. She gives a fierce scowl as the drips of blood dry on her face.
(小 光): Growling, Astrid gives off a fierce, piercing cry.
(小 光): A rumbing is heard, and a shining blur rockets into the ground at their feet.
(小 光): As Arthur with Excalibur, Astrid wrenches Sigurd from the ground.
(小 光): "I am Lady Astrid of House Mërdel! You WILL tell me what business you have with me!!"
"You're alive!" Gardenia said; thankful that Astrid survived
"I am Sir Cilvarge Nathtain of House Scathach, and you WILL tell us why in the moon's name you attacked us at the park. We have been told to seek your aid in taking the life of a known criminal. Had I expected you to attempt taking OURS, I would've simply slain the man on my own and gone  about my business as usual. Do the trolls not hold their oaths of Honor to bind them anymore, lost one?"

Cilvarge bares his blades in a relaxed stance, still yet ready for combat.

Medea settles on to the ground and pulls Gary's head into her lap so he doesn't have to rest entirely on the ground. "We were sent by Ed, who also gave us the broach," She says is a calmer voice. "We don't mean you any harm Lady Astrid. We shouldn't be fighting each other if we were meant to team up."
Gary stirs in his sleep, but is out cold on Medea's lap.
(小 光): "......Ed sent you..? But why would she have this....?"
(小 光): Astrid takes out the broach, once again glowing with an inner light.
(小 光): "If it were this important, then I can see she's serious. I don't know what's going on, but I'll help you."

"So, what do we need to do next?" Gardenia asked
"I still need to know why you break your oaths of Honor, troll." (Cilvarge said.)
(小 光): "I took no such oaths, Sidhe scum."
(小 光): "Now then," Astrid Continues, "does anyone have a place to crash?"
"The Sidhe Scum happens to own a freehold. Not that you'd be interested." (Cilvarge Said.)
"I also have one. It's not too far from here" (Gardenia Said.)
"Distance does not exactly matter with my powers... Not when we know where we're going." (Cilvarge Said.)
"I'm fine with any place," Medea says. "But the closer the better I think. If Gardenia's is closest then that may be best."
"If I may ask, just how private is your place, girl?" Cilvarge asks, turning to Gardenia.
"After all, we ARE conducting a murder plot."
"It's in the basement of the apartments I live in" Gardenia said. "Nobody goes down there"
(小 光): "If we want privacy, we might be best going back to Loose Ends." Astrid responds.
"And mingle among the throng of fae in that horrible place? No thank you! The apartments sound decent, but I'm not sure of security. Besides, in Mér Naït we could fill ourselves on glamour to prepare ourselves for...confrontations. I need counsel from my assistants anyway." (Cilvarge Said.)
"I guess my freehold is not the most secure location for this" Gardenia said. "Maybe Loose Ends?"
"I don't think Cilvarge will go back to Loose Ends of his own free will,," Medea says rubbing her temples a bit. "Also, going back there without completing out task might not go over so well."
Gary stirs, moans in pain, and buries his head into the nearest warm, soft thing, Medea's crotch region. Whoops.
Gary then rolls his head out of there, and looks up, his eyes glazed in a mix of exhaustion, meeting Medea's. "Hi. What's going on?"
(小 光): "Not to sound apathetic, but I don't really care where we go." Astrid says.
(小 光): "No matter where we go, we can gather information related to our goal, whatever that is. I'd just like to get going soon, as it's almost 3am."
"Sounds good. I'm feeling tired" (Gardenia Said.)
"Let's just go to Cilvarge's place"
"I am glad you are one to see reason, lass. No time like the instant!"
Cilvarge places his blades on the ground again, and closes his eyes, clasping his hands.
Gary lazes on Medea's lap, hovering in and out of that milky-warm state of consciousness that one gets when they wake up after 12 hours of sleep. The ground starts to rumble yet again, he sighs and buries his head deeper into Medea's crotch again, not fully realizing what he'd done. A muffled mumble of "Not again" could be heard.
(小 光): "So we're going to the Sparkle Fairy's place?" Astrid says, sarcasm in her voice.
"I could leave you here, if that's what you want. But I would much rather go home than somewhere I don't know two bits about." (Cilvarge Said.)
Medea pushes Gary back on to the ground. "If you keep doing that," She says standing up. "You will regret it." She turns to Cilvarge's. "Your place is fine with me."
"Are we all set, then? The glamour is calling." Cilvarge's eyebrows are twitching slightly.
Astrid heaves a sigh and sheaths her sword. Giving a grunt, she hoists the stupored satyr onto her back and begins walking north.

"Are you coming?" Astrid shouts from about halfway up the block.
Medea follows Astrid, keeping her distance from Gary.
Gary protests weakly, wiggling. He then latches on with a bearhug just under her chest, a firm grip. He holds his torso up with his chin digging into Astrid's shoulder, inevitably moving his face into her neck and hair. He dozes, but keeps a firm hold. "Where are we going?" He asks suddenly.
(小 光): "Subway." Astrid replies with a grunt.
"Lead the way, captain" (Gardenia Said.)
"So little trust in this one...sad, that those once honor held have lost so much," Cilvarge mumbles to himself while he picks his blades up and starts walking. "Speaking of where we're going, do you people have any idea of where our destination actually IS? Last time I checked, it was hardly public knowledge..."
(小 光): Astrid forges on, ignoring the Sidhe's concerns.
[12:00:22 AM] Nejin Oniwa: "Fine, get lost, see if I care."

(小 光): The scenery changes slightly as they pass into the Central District.
Medea keeps mostly in pace woth Gardenia, seeming to perfer her company the most. "You mentioned earlier you live in an apartment building?" the sluagh asks Gardenia. "Are there any abandoned apartments there?"
"There aren't any abandoned apartments, but the basement is unused; save for my freehold" (Gardenia Said.)
Gary gradually releases his deathgrip on Astrid, sliding down off her back onto the ground, getting a few scrapes from her armor along the way. He is a bit wobbly on his feet, but manages to stay up. He trots forward, hooves clicking madly to keep up with the group.
"Walking," Cilvarge grumbles. "Walking! Honestly. We could flash, we could fly, we could run with the winds. I could jump across every rooftop in this city if I wanted! But no, we have to WALK. You have no sense of style, troll! None at all."
"If we have to fight later, doesn't it make sense to save out energy?" Medea says to him then turns back to Gardenia. "What's your freehold like?"
"It's a room in the basement of the apartments I live in. There's a nice, old couch in there; really nice for taking a nap. Also, I have a workbench" (Gardenia Said.)
"That's very..." Cilvarge struggles to find a word for it. "Common."
Gary clops along, listening in silence. His face lights up in sudden realization. "Oh! I have a place for you to go, my business! It's nice and warm and fluffy there." He laughs, then walks a bit faster, to catch up with Medea, walking astride with her. "Sorry about before." He smiles. Gary then trips suddenly forward, his hoof caught in a pothole. He stumbles awkwardly but catches himself, but falls behind the group to avoid any other embarassing actions.

(小 光): Astrid halts in front of the Oakdale Subway Station.
(小 光): She begins down the steps.
(小 光): per + alert (diff 5)
(小 光): Axu can make out a sign for the subway on the side of the stairs. He is slightly bleary-eyed from the night's ordeal.
(小 光): Cilvarge and Gardenia can see a subway sign, too. It states the service times and other general info.
(小 光): Medea can see that the sign says that subway service stops at midnight. A digital clock nearby shows the current time at 3:24 am.
(小 光): Astrid continues down the steps, to a granite landing with a service door and fire alarm.
"I believe it says the trains aren't running right now," Medea states. "this does create a problems."
(小 光): Astrid goes to the door. She pushes in the lock, then pulls the alarm.
(小 光): A panel opens on the side of it, revealing what looks like an intercom system.
(小 光): A voice heard over the speaker sounds like the gruff knocker from earlier in the night.
(小 光): "Where ya headed?"
(小 光): Astrid turns to Cilvarge.
(小 光): "Oi, Sparkles. What stop is your freehold."
"Chilter Hill. Now tell me again why we're taking the gnome express rather than simply flashing over there...oh, wait. You can't speak properly." (Cilvarge Said.)
"The moon have mercy on your mouth, poor troll."
(小 光): Astrid glares at him before turning back to the speaker.
(小 光): "Chilter Hill, please. Thanks Ernie."

(小 光): A hard screeching can be heard from the depths of the station. Astrid dashes down the next flight of stairs, leaving the group in the faint glow of streetlamps and moonlight.
Medea follows close behind Astrid.
"You are the most roundabout people in the world," Cilvarge yells at everybody as he saunters after them.
Gary stands motionless, his senses heightened by the sudden silence. He clops off down the stairs, springing towards Cilvarge and the rest of the group. He gets a bit winded from the sudden action.
"Are we going to see Ed again?" Gardenia said, following the others
"If we see her where we're going now, I will kill myself and her, in that order." Cilvarge grumbles.
(小 光): Astrid leads them down to the lower platform, where they arrive as a train screeches to a halt, light glaring, surrounded by an ethereal mist.
(小 光): The doors swoosh open.
(小 光): "Quick, get on before anybody sees!!"
Cilvarge gets on with a hop, a skip and a jump, making a very uninterested face.
Medea obeys without question. "Thank you showing up the trick with the intercom, Lady Astrid," Medea says to her.
Gary springs quickly through the group and onto the train, kneeling into a roll and hides under one of the seats. "Scawy.."
Gardenia quickly ran onto the train; taking her seat
(小 光): "The trains aren't supposed to run this late, but thanks to Ernie, anyone who's a member or affiliate of Ed's freehold can travel around after hours," Astrid says as the doors close and the train speeds away.
(小 光): -scene-
(小 光): -end game-

DOUBLEPOSTLOLWUT

people, if you get the chance, i'd like you to read chapter 8. it has useful info on how to do things with rolls. remember to consult me occasionally, though, especially for things like battling (i hope to find a way to streamline the process a bit). the beginning of chapter 7 would be useful too, as it has info on how to cast cantrips (the term used for "magic"), and the entirety of chapter 6, as it explains important things about dice pools, such as splitting your dice pool. (chapter 6 is only 9 pages, i think you can handle that.)

remember to check in once in awhile. ^^

good to hear, especially since bells can make it! prepare to crawl out of the bowels of the subway, thea! or you can dash madly into the subway away from some random chimera or something.

but yes, we're aiming for 10pm EST. i'd like perusons to start czech-in at 8pm and up.

also guys, a sidenote: considering the amout of perversion that has come up already, i've begun studying The Book of Erotic Fantasy. This comes as the result of there being little to no information about how to run a naughty WW campaign. i plan on reviewing all relevant material to search for native info (i don't plan on reviewing the Immortal Eyes series, for example), but otherwise am taking on the project of converting The Book of Erotic Fantasy to Changeling. (it was written for D&D, so i'm going to have to rewrite some portions to fit better.) this is going to be part conversion, part original, and i hope to finish by the end of summer. if anyone wants to help, i'd welcome it, provided they're willing to leave the snark, sarcasm, and humour at the door.

see you tonight!

I'm sorry I didn't make the game last night, or went to bed before you could start, or something. IDK what; as I ended up late due to heavy traffic, on top of the fact that nobody involved with the game was replying to my messages once I was home, so I had no idea what the fuck was going on >_<;;;

Part of me thought it was cancelled because I couldn't make it, part of me thought it was already over for the night by the time I was finally at home...

i didn't want to, so part of it was due to waiting. but out of 6 people that were expected to show up, only 3 did (this is including me). we'll try again next week. or who knows, if we can get enough people around today, maybe today.

also people, regarding my post about the book of erotic fantasy, there has been some speculation that i was intending to introduce this into our campaign. this is not the case at all; however, being that the concept has been introduced (by the players, mind you) in the game, i'd like to have something on hand as a resource. if you've been looking over your maps, you'll notice there are a couple brothels in Ashberg (not many, but some), and since it has been implied that a certain teacher has been cavorting with his students, well, who's to say that he hasn't given or recieved a certain chimerical "gift"?

with that in mind, i might call on people for perspectives on things. i feel i should mention that this project was not conceived out of perversion or humour, but in the name of research. FOR SCIENCE!!!

i won't ask people to write stuff. most of this is just going to be converting tables and charts anyway. but opinions, perspectives, and fanart would be appriciated.

I'll try hard. My mom's family is meeting up at the resort tomorrow, but since I already have prior arrangements with my sister in the afternoon, I might be able to get out of being there overnight; so I can make it to the game.

It looks good thus far for me being able to play, but we'll see

OKAY FOLKS, LISTEN UP
I am home this week, and this week only. I will be back in just about a month (July 24th or so) and I leave on the 1st of July.

If any game is to be had before we take July Break, it's this week.

Just so y'all know,

thanks for the heads up. i was thinking of one-shotting it till you come back, so if we can get stuff done that'd be nice.

who's up for an extended game session? get a bunch out of the way at once?

If you're wanting to do it this Saturday, I should be around in the afternoon if nothing comes up

Also, by "one-shotting it", do you mean like a sidequest for us to do while Nej is away?
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on June 25, 2012, 08:44:04 PM
basically. :\ it'd consist of a one-shot story tailored for you guys. considering the environment given, i'd likely write a new one and build it around ashberg. figured it wasn't exactly nice to advance the plot without all the main players. :\

as for the extended session, it'd be on saturday. but in this instance, i'd like to get everyone's commitment several days beforehand. that means that if you can't guarentee you can make it at least 4-5 days in advance, then we won't be doing it. :\

Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on July 01, 2012, 12:47:58 AM
(小 光): Our players left off on a subway train at 3:30am, hurtling at astonishing speed down the tracks to the opposite end of the line, Chilter Hill.
(小 光): Astrid sits in her seat calmly, Gary cowering on the floor below.
(小 光): The high velocity has the poor goat nervous, too nervous to come from under the bench. Astrid pays him no mind.
Medea sits silently.
While waiting to arrive at their next stop, Gardenia decides to check over her equipment
Gary, never one for fast-moving rides, lays on the ground, quietly trying to not throw up.
A beeping sound is heard. He pulls out his pager.
"Godddammit, of all the damn times!"
He continues laying where he is, grumbling to himself.
Meanwhile, Cilvarge is busy swatting flies. With his swords.
Whilst screaming loudly.
(小 光): The train speeds along, taking sharp turns along the way. The players (except the screaming fairy) are shifted violently to the left and right.
(小 光): The names of the stops are an illegible blur as they go by.
(小 光): Focusing hard, however, reveals that the train begins to very gradually lose speed by the time they reach Rockmore. Avenbay stop is almost readable.
(小 光): As the train rumbles on, there is a violent screeching sound as the tunnel fills with sparks. All players (except sparkles) are lurched forward as the train pulls into Chilter Hill.
(小 光): Astrid, recovering from the rude stop, begins to rise, but is tripped back into her seat by Gary. He dashes like a madman into the night, yelling behind him as he goes, "BUS CRASH!! FINANCIAL DISTRICT!! ER SWAMPED!! SEE YOU!!"
Momentarily confused by this little outburst, Astrid rises again and begins to walk into the cool night air of the above-ground stop.
"Lady Astrid, if you don't mind asnwering, how does one become a member of Ms. Ed's freehold,?" Medea asks.
(小 光): Astrid looks surprised for a second. "Well, Ed usually inducts the members herself. Though she has many, many associates. I imagine that doing continued work for her would garner you favour."
(小 光): Astrid continues out of the small enclosure, out into the cool night.
Looking at the broken remains of her jumprope, Gardy began to try and figure out the best way to repair it
Cilvarge grabs Gardy's shoulder pretty roughly. "Don't even bother. Better to arm yourself properly, anyway."
He steps around the subway exit, to the east school entrance.
"Well, folks. Come along."
Astrid follows with a slightly annoyed huff.

(小 光): The air is cool and the neighborhood is silent.
(小 光): Crickets can be heard chirping, the odd stray cat or dog barking, and a full moon looming over an ominous-looking steeple. Its rigid catholic cross stares out over the land, a single eye of judgement. Banality hangs in the air around it.
(小 光): A larger building in similar gothic archetecture can be seen nearby, though its presence is much less forboding. Over the surrounding suburban neighborhoods, a slight summer mist has formed, giving the impression and smell of fresh rain.
(小 光): Astrid marches off down the sidewalk, stoic troll nature ignoring the stench of idea-killing banal smog being oozed by that black church.
"This place is beautiful," Medea comments softly. "What are they buildings like on the inside?"
"This place has an eerie beauty to it" Gardy said quietly. "I kind of like it; it feels like the sort of place that only exists in books"
"Well, you're not entirely wrong, but on the other hand, it's actually the opposite."
"There only exists books here..."
Cilvarge stops by a door on the left-hand side.
He burrows through his pockets for a bit, before producing a long, heavy chain littered with keys.
Struggling a bit with the old lock, he gets it unlocked and opens the door. It creaks heavily as it swings wide, revealing the darkness within.
"Come on. The main power grid is shut down in the public parts of the building, we have to get to the parts I actually own until we can get some lights. Don't trip."
Cilvarge walks through the door, and vanishes into the darkness. "Come on," he echoes from within.

(小 光): Astrid continues down the silent street, the scent of old money in the air. As she approaches the glamour tint becomes significantly darker.
A few steps in and after going through a door, the light switches flip as Cilvarge pass through. Bright, xenon lights power up all across the building.
(小 光): Astrid finds her way down the hallway,  avoiding the spots of strange dark goo on the walls, and stepping over the half-finished experiments and broken beakers.
(小 光): As she enters the main room, there is a large ornamental fountain right in the middle. The black water it spurts oozes a shady mist.
(小 光): Looking around, she can see the room itself is quite fancy; classy decoration and lavish furniture adorn the floor, ceiling, and walls. There is a hallway leading off from the back corner, where doors to other rooms can be seen.
(小 光): Astrid resists the urge to explore, knowing that it might get her in more trouble than it's worth.
"Funny thing," Cilvarge says, approaching her from behind.
"People always go here first, and always think this is all there is. I could count on one hand the people who ever thought deeper..."
Cilvarge once again retrieves the key chain from his pockets, and takes hold of the by far largest key it holds.
He then stabs the wall with it. It sinks in smoothly, and he turns it.
The wall oozes a green liquid, that reaches out and grabs Cilvarge's hand.
The ooze retreating as fast as it came, the key bends with a violent TWANG, forming a handle. Thin lines are cut in the wall, and suddenly there is another door in the room.
Cilvarge turns the handle, and the door slides upward, seething into the ceiling. The key comes loose, slipping back into Cilvarge's hand and returning its shape.
"Come, everyone. Once we're past this gate, we can enter."

(小 光): Astrid feels a shiver up her spine as she walks through, eyes shifting about with distrust.
Medea isn't too sure about the place since she's use to darker places.
Feeling uneasy, Gardenia enters the room slowly
The wall falls back down behind the party with a deep THUMP.
All light from the xenon lamps are gone, and the party is blinded for a moment. Once their eyes recover, they see tiny glowing spots surrounding them - a myriad of torchbugs nestled into the foilage wall.
Cilvarge starts walking, and the corridor quickly becomes a narrow alley between brushes. At a few places the path is blocked by thick trees or bushes, but they quickly move away once Cilvarge approaches.
Finally, the garden opens, and the simple one-story building of the Mer'Naït freehold lies ahead.
"Welcome to my lair, ladies..." Cilvarge laughs silently as he opens the door and walks in.
(小 光): Astrid does even better to avoid the numerous failed and forgotten experiments on the floor, double the amount of before. Seeing a basic replica of the previous room (only fancier), she gestures to the hallway in the back. "S'at where we're sleeping?"
"If you want a surefire way of becoming a drooling lunatic, then by all means. I would suggest the bedrooms, however," Cilvarge says and gestures to one of the doors.

(小 光): Astrid grumbles and heads towards the first door on the hallway. "Only an idiot would think i was being specific...."
(小 光): She finds the first door is locked, and tries the second, to a small guest room.
"I am a scientist. I always assume the specifics."
"Goodnight." she says, slamming the door as quietly as possible.
Medea hangs back, waiting for Gardenia to pick her room before finding her own. The bright lights are something she's fond of and she wishes for a dark place.
"Wait! Now that the sourpuff is gone, does anyone want a drink?" Cilvarge motions to the fountain, and an assortment of goblets on its perch.
(小 光): A violent slam is heard.
(小 光): A seething blonde knocker in light blue pajamas stomps out, holding her pillow.
(小 光): "Milord. Go to Bed. NOW."
(小 光): She speaks tiredly, with a thick british accent.
"Alice. Three-two-five with a sprinkle of magnesium."
"Also, you have breadcrumbs. On your cheek."
"Have you been eating in bed again?"
(小 光): She wipes her cheeck. "Dinner, milord. I've been busy studying for hours. Now please, I'd like at least 5 hours before dawn...."
(小 光): She shuffles back to her room, giving the group an apathetic glare before shutting the door.

"Excuse the household, ladies..." Cilvarge continues in a quieter tone.
"In any case, if you feel spent on glamour, grab a drink from the fountain. It will refill any reserves you might need. Guest rooms are down the hallway, and sleep quietly. Hatter doesn't wake as easy, but he wakes madder. A LOT madder."
Cilvarge swiftly grabs a goblet, fills it up and chugs it down.
"Goodnight, ladies." Cilvarge moves off to the master bedroom.
Medea slow moves about the room. "What are the chances there is a dark closet or something in this place?" She asks looking over at Gardenia.
"Not sure" she answered, slightly nervous. "We should probably stick together. Maybe there's a bunk bed for us in one of the rooms"

(小 光): The door slams back open.
(小 光): Alice grabs Medea by the wrist and drags her down the hall, to the second door on the left.
(小 光): She yanks it open and slightly shoves Medea inside.
(小 光): She shuffles back to her room.
Medea is stardled by Alice dragging her. She steps back into the hall so Gardenia can see where she is but still looks around where Alice brought her.
Feeling a bit unsettled from the sudden reappearance of that mysterious Nocker, Gardenia rushes over to rejoin Medea. "We should probably stick together. I can sleep on the floor, if there's no extra bed" she said
(小 光): The dimly-lit bedroom is simple in nature, with faint shaded blue walls. the highly places shelves contain gothic-style electric candles, some campy 70's originals, some crafted by knocker hands. Two twin beds lie on either side of the room, heads facing a window with translucent smoke-coloured curtains tightly drawn, feet facing the door.
(小 光): the carpet, a faded olive green, has a small square area rug in the middle, persian patterns almost dancing in the faint light. A desk with paper and writing utensils flanks the left side of the door, a closet on the right. Small bookshelves sit at the foot of the bed, partially filled, with a shared bedside table in the middle of the two beds being the last piece of furniture.
Medea walks in and over to a shelf with a lamp on it. "This is much better," She says, running a finger along the base of one of the lamps. "Room for both of us and we can keep an eye on each other."
"Sounds good" Gardenia said. "Well, I guess I'll go to bed now"
Medea settles down on the other bed. "Good night Ms. Gardenia."
"Goodnight" Gardenia said; getting into bed and relaxing
(小 光): The lights fade out, leaving the moonlight to filter in.
(小 光): -scene-
(小 光): -end game-

compared to other systems i've found, it's actually extremely easy. you don't even need dice for it.

if you really, really need help, just poke me when i'm online and i can walk you through it. i provided those resources if you want to get a little special.

also guys, i may have spoke too soon when i said we could start again this saturday. unless we start late. or postpone till sunday.

EDIT: i feel i should clear up that when i said "get it going by next friday", i meant that we'd have everything ready by friday to play on saturday. :\
sorry if that wasn't clear.

you're like the reverse of my mother. she works friday through monday, and has tuesday through thursday free.

@stew: you love it too? it's so easy and intuitive! you can really customize the character's personality easily with the system, if you don't already have a backstory planned. and if you do, you can use it to give the finer details to your character, like with the merits/flaws system. :3

that said, what time do the other games usually occur? you always had saturday nights free in the past, has something else filled that slot? :\

My Saturday game can run from noon to nine or ten, usually until six or seven.

I like that it let's you have a functional person to fit your backstory right out of the gate.  Same with Twilight 2000s, though it's got more math.

Medea notices what a dark, dank place this is. it smells funny and it's kind of cold. there's a light up ahead, though.
Jonah and Sarah can see that it's cold. and dark. and kind of damp. and there's something shiny up ahead.
(please note that everyone is in a seperate tunnel)
upaut34: I slowly make my way towards the source of light.
Cockle: Gary hoists himself up into a stooped position in the sewer. A dank, nasty, sickly smell assaults his nostrils. The only thing he has about his person are his clothes, tattered and stained with putrid sewer juices. He is barefoot, and he can feel the slippery stones of the sewer under his toes. Inching forward, trying not to slip back into the fetid mix, Gary hobbles forwards towards the faint light.
Mel: Medea coughs a bit when she first takes in the oh so lovely aroma of sewer. The darkness doesn't bother her as her eyes adjust. Holding the edge of her dress out of the mix of questionable substances she heads towards the faint light.
LadyJack: Sitting up she dusts herself off and realizes she has nothing on her, slowly standing and swearing under her breath. She starts making her way slowly towards the shiny thing, hoping it is light and wondering how the hell she got down here. The last thing she remembered was being in the library at school.
(Sarah)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the players shuffle forward alone through the dank tunnel. their head throbs as if they were dropped onto the cobblestones. the light they were heading towards is revealed to be a torch in its holder, attached to the wall. looking themselves over, they see their clothing is a tad damp and tattered, and they are missing all their belongings.
another rumble rocks the tunnel, followed by a great, low-pitched screeching roar.
having no other way out, the player continue to follow the tunnel.
upaut34: I grab the tourch and continue down the tunnel.
Cockle: Gary shuffles along the passage until he comes to the light source, blinking his eyes quickly to adjust to the light, his eyes watering partly from the shine and partly from the retch-inducing stench of the sewer. He looks down, his lab coat and cotton under-clothing are  moist with sewage. He wrings out his cotton undershirt and hikes up the tail of his labcoat, wringing the nasty juices out of the fabric. Looking up, he grabs the torch out of its holder and is startled by a deep roar emanating from down the slimy passage. He almost drops the torch, catching it with his other hand in midair. A crawling fear settles over him, and he sees no other option but to continue hobbling down the passage towards the noise.
Mel: Medea stops when she hears the roar. After standing completely still she slowly takes the torch and holds it out in front of her for light and safety.
LadyJack: Sarah walks oer to the torch and looks herself over now in the light, trying to calm down with a deep breath before coughing at the stench of the tunnel. The rumble catches her off guard and she quickly grabs the torch before slowly heading further down the tunnel.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the players find a central room inhabited by a very large, very angry chimerical beast. its beak emits another roar as its tentacles slam down on the cobblestone floor, not too far from a cloaked figure. the figure lets out a harsh cry and runs towards the screaming giant, easily 50 feet tall, and with a quick whirling motion slices off the appendage that had just flown its way.
at the player's feet is a weapon.
(everyone pick a number 1-4)
LadyJack: 2
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (only one person gets each number)
Cockle: 4
Mel: 1
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and jonah is 3.
(rolling to determine something)
Jonah finds a gun at his feet.
gary finds a switchblade.
medea finds a hammer.
(a 5-lb sledgehammer.)
sarah finds a pack of matches.
rather damp.
upaut34: I check the clip
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you find a full clip. 17+1.
upaut34: And then holster the gun best I can in my wistband.
Cockle: Gary quickly drops to his haunches, struggling to remain composed in the face of mortal danger. His fingers fumble on the rough, slimy ground, and grasp a metal blade. His fingers trace the blade slot and find that it's a bit rusty. Praying slightly, he flips it open and runs his hand quickly along the tarnished blade. Flipping the blade back into the sheath, he stows it in his left labcoat pocket and shuffles quickly along the wall to the right. His breathing picks up, his body shaking from the cold air hitting his moist clothing. Fear fills his being as the creature bellows its warning cry towards him. He stops momentarily to observe the darkened figure assaulting the creature, then he meets the right corner of the room. He crouches in the corner and tries not to be seen too much by the monster. His teeth chatter together.
Melissa Clark: Medea has some trouble lifting the hammer but figures its better then the torch at this point. Not being much of a fighter she decides its best to leave most of it to the cloaked figure.
Jacquline Roulet: Quickly grabs the matches and shoves them into a pocket, hoping they might still work. Watching the scene in front of her she holds the torch in front of her as if it can protect her. Slowly backing against the wall she feels behind her for another tunnel to back into and hide.
(sarah)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the beast bellows another roar as the figure lands. the players notice a thick, acrid smoke filling the air. looking up at the creature, the top of its head is glowing, and a thick, bright orange substance oozes from the top, along with plume after plume of smoke.

sarah's turn
LadyJack: Sarah goes wide-eyed as she loosk around and then back at the monsterous creature, silently praying to every god and goddess she knows and she rushes forward. She attempts to shove the torch into its eye or somewhere close as she hopes to not be chomped in half.
(Make that a tenticle because I forgot how big this thing was)
4,10,7,8 *3 sucesses*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Sarah manages to jam a flaming torch into one of its tentacles.
rears its appendage upward and shakes off the thorn, appearantly having enjoyed the burn.
(Krakentoa gains 1 health level)
gary's turn
Cockle: Gary kneels down and inhales deeply. His bare feet curl into a crack in the stone floor, and he launches his body forwards. He takes a running start, jumping and bounding towards the slavering creature's lower tentacles. While he's running, he grabs the switchblade out of his coat and flicks it open, and then attempts to plunge it into the soft underbelly of the beast.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): dex + melee, diff 6
Cockle: 2,3 botch
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Gary trips on a crack in the floor and tumbles end over end. he narrowly misses being squished by a tentacle.
Rona begins running back toward the creature.
With a quick, silvery flash she slices off half a tentacle. it drops to the ground with a wet, resounding "thud" as the beast emits a great roar.
Krakentoa takes 4 damage.
upaut34: Grabbing the found gun, Jonah aims at the beast and fires, hoping this gun hasn't been in this sewer long enough to foul the pin.
1 suc. 2 suc on the damage following.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Krakentoa soaks the damage, though screeches from the impact.
Krakentoa's turn
Krakentoa rears up one of its tentacles and sweeps it across the floor, getting Rona first, then Gary, then Medea.
Dex + Dodge, diff 6
Rona jumps the tentacle with ease, as if it were a jumprope.
Gary rolls over and narrowly misses getting bludgeoned.

Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (feel free to describe how you dodge, if you like)
Mel: Medea makes a dive toward the wall to get away and lays flat as she can against the floor. She keeps a grip on the hammer just in case.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Medea, your turn.
Mel: 9, 6, 10, 8. 3 suc(?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (what are you trying to do...?)
Mel: Seeing that the only way to get out of the sewer is to take down the creature. Medea gets to her feet and drags the hammer with her. Pulling it back all the way she can Medea charges the creature and swings the hammer making sure to put her full weight behind it.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): dex + melee, diff 7
Mel: 8, 2, 4, 10. 2 suc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): The hammer swings down on a grounded tentacle, hitting it and the floor with a resounding crack.

Mel: 3, 7, 5, 5, 4, 10. 2 suc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Krakentoa takes 1 damage.
LadyJack: Looks around and snaps her fingers before scooping up some of the sewer water and tossing it at him yelling "Water Whirlwind!" *insert effect here* as she casts Eldrich Prime to cover him in potenially harmful water.
5,7,4,2,7 *3 Successes*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): a cyclone of sewage vaults upward at the creature, hitting it in the face. it bellows with a loud roar as it is blinded by the water and muck. steam shoots off from the area with a hiss that fills the room. the stinky steam wafts around the confined space.
Krakentoa soaks the damage (heheh, soaks), but is temporarily blinded by the action.
At this point in time Gary runs and hides in a tunnel.
Rona, seeing her advantage, begins running toward the creature.
She leaps when she gets to the base of the creature, launching her cloaked form toward the creature in a flying blur.
Whipping her Naginata around, she slashes it across the eye, grinning wildly as the beast's burning blood pours out in steaming globs.
The instant she lands she jumps again, backward to avoid the spray.
upaut34: Once again, I shoot at the bloody thing, trying to stay out of its range.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Krakentoa is still reeling from the major injury, but somehow manages to soak the bullet. Perhaps it is too focused on losing an eye, or perhaps the bullet just fell into the lava-soaked wound.
Krakentoa cannot see. however, in the midst of all the rage and confusion, it dips its head downward, revealing a volcanic cone on top.
it takes aim at Sarah.
A great wooshing sound is heard, and a column of volcanic ash, smoke, heat and magma is sent hurtling in her general direction.
LadyJack: Seeing the spew of magma she starts running away, frontflipping hand over feet to safety. She turns and stands looking at the beast as she moves into a defensive position; waiting for him to try again.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the general area of where she was standing now drips with magma, orange and steaming as chunks of pumice float in it.
medea's turn
Mel: Medea sees her chance to try to damage this monster once again. Using the steam she tries to whip up a whirlwind to keep the creature still.
4, 6, 9, 9. 3(?) suc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the steam begins to violently spin around the creature, funnelling off its smoke and heat to the vents above. it roars in confusion at the new sensation.
LadyJack: Sarah turns to the woman funneling steam at it and smiles, concentrating as she kneels down to dig her nails into whatever soil she can and wipes her hands with it. "Now we play!" she yells before throwing some more dirt at it and yelling "Earthen Rain!" *insert effect here*
9,1,6,3,8 *2 Successes*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): The room rumbles again, loosening some rocks from the ceiling. Some plop into its head, other hit its face. It roars in pain.
Krakentoa takes 1 damage.
Rona takes a moment to think; jumping into the whirlwind wouldn't be an effective move right now.
Noticing a stray tentacle, she runs after it.
She slices clean through it with a twirl of the staff. Krakentoa takes an additional 2 damage.
upaut34: Looking at the gun, I sigh at it. Instead of shooting at the beast again I run to it, trying to deliver a kick to its midriff.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (2 successes)
(Jonah does 7 damage)
The beast emits a great roar, louder than before, and stops stark still for a moment--before dissolving into ash.
The powder is scattered throughout the room by the now-dissapating tornado.

Title: Practice Session - 1/2/13
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 03, 2013, 06:12:27 AM
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay
to sound like a teacher
everyone open your books to chapter 2
LadyJack: lol kk
Mel: got it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright
to give a basic skimming of the chapter (you can read it in detail later), the major thing this chapter talks about is bunks
considering we toss the word around a lot, i should explain what a bunk is
if glamour is clay, then a bunk is the tools to shape it
for example, you can make a pot with just your hands
but chances are it's gonna be lumpy and difficult to make
use a pottery wheel, and things go twice as fast and come out a lot more even
if i wanted to use wayfare to jump over a building, i could
but glamour isn't going to know what i want to do unless i tell it
so if i start singing the song from the Moon Shoes commercial and jumping around a whole bunch, chances are it'll be a lot easier to leap over that building
get it?
Mel: yep
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the chapter brings up some important factors when thinking of a bunk
the art, the character casting the cantrip, and the situation
if you're using wayfare, you're not gonna bring out a pocket pendulum and start divining the future
if you're a sluagh, you're not gonna burst into song to cast a cantrip
and if you're in battle, you're not gonna draw an intricate chalk door on a wall to escape when there's a rabid black spiral dancer werewolf charging you.
(all good points)
LadyJack: and now i am picturing a sluagh singing
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): there are some optional rules detailed in the chapter, which i think we could benefit from as long as it's not abused
(that sounds painful for the sluagh)
(unless they have that one merit, the one where they have a normal voice)
anyway
the optional rules are for "banal bunks"
basically, it brings up the issue of using the same bunk over and over
for example, mel, when medea wanted to cast primal to bring up some fire, she'd typically light a match, right?
Mel: mhm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): as quick and practical as that is, over time it loses the creativity behind it
and since glamour is basically made of creativity, and cantrips are all about manipulating glamour....
you see my point
the chapter says that part of the fun is coming up with bunks on the fly
maybe i'm just horrible at improv but i hate being put on the spot
Mel: yeah I just read that part and it does make sense but if you have a lot of spells it might be hard to keep track of which one has a useable bunk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but tbh, i think we'd all be better roleplayers for at least trying to come up with different bunks
that's true.
but i suppose that's part of the point of these practice sessions, to make yourself more familiar with this
Mel: mmmm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and if it helps, you could always look for a blank section on your sheet and start writing down what each level of an art does
if you make a note that Eldritch Prime is about calling one of the 4 elements, that'd make it easier to think something up
like digging up mud and spreading it on yourself to call up the earth
(messy but effective)
typically i only award 3 points and under for a bunk to make sure things aren't too easy, but the chapter has a point that if a bunk is particularly special, it deserves more
(there are some 5-point bunks in here)
Mel: mhm mhm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'm not going to officially use the banal bunk system, as it sort of says that if you use a particular bunk multiple times in one day the points it awards go down depending on the number of times used
LadyJack: nice
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so if you had a 3-point bunk and used it twice in one day, by the end of it it'd be a 1-point
and that bunk only recovers a point a day, so if you were to use it again tomorrow it'd only be a 2-point
Mel: for some reason I just pictured someone at a party, something is attack, so they take a candle, light a curtain on fire and have at it
*attacking
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): FUCK YEAH
but yeah, that's a good bunk right there
destructive, menacing, probably get you kicked out, but good.
Mel: hey if its my char, she wouldn't be there on her own will anyway
perfect excuse to leave
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -w-
now then
Mel: sorry, continue
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (no, it's cool, i just want to start presenting examples)
Mel: ok
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so i had suggested to rodney that the characters i was going to use for these practice sessions are a pair of NPCs i had for a game a couple years ago
a wilder Sluagh (Reye) and a childling pooka (Mideel)
(somehow they accidentally fit the trope of intro characters. go figure.)
(to give you a wee bit of description here so you can picture this, figure it might help) Reye is tall, slender, and kind-looking. like what a sluagh would look like if they were a babysitter or nanny or kindergarten teacher. she has LOOOOONG black hair and dresses in muted greys and neutrals. her dress has a small lace collar with a cameo pin, but is otherwise quite typical and loose and flowing, and goes over a black skirt. she has high cheekbones and low-set silver eyes.
(she's 20 btw, but probably looks a bit older)
Mideel is a scruffy little homeless calico pooka who runs around barefoot in cargo shorts and a raglan graphic tee. he has brown-orange hair and fleas, so he scratches a lot. his peridot yellow-green eyes typically stare at people with a piercing yet interested gaze, just like a young cat.
somehow Reye ended up with Chronos 5. considering this is a very rare, rather secret art almost exclusive to nobles, i'm kind of confused as to how this happened.
guess i wasn't paying attention.
Mideel has Primal 5, fitting given his stray-animal nature.
Mel: mmmm ok
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'll start off with the beginning levels of the art and work my way up.
Mideel wants to cast Willow Whisper (Primal 1) on a rock to see if the rock can tell him which way Reye went. to perform the bunk, Mideel could do a couple different things (off the top of my head).
Mideel could simply start talking to the rock (1-point bunk);
He could draw a face on the rock with dirt, chalk, a marker, etc (2-3 point bunk);
He could gather other items to make a group conversation of sorts (3-point?);
he could formally introduce himself and start bowing to the rock to gain its respect (3-4 point)
or he could do something else entirely. (?)
in this case, let's say he find a piece of chalk on the ground left over from a hopscotch game. he draws 2 eyes and a mouth on the rock, and starts talking to it.
in this case he'd also need the nature realm (which he doesn't have....i should fix that), one dot.
(since he doesn't have it, we'll just pretend right now.)
this gives him 2 dice to work with using the system i have. (i'm gonna have to work on a way to make it fairer by bumping up the dice pool, but until i do, it's 2 dice). he'd roll the 2 dice against a difficulty of 6 (this is the first time he's meeting this rock. luckily, there's other natural stuff around, and no other people), minus 2 for the bunk, for a total of 4.
he gets a 6 and a 7 (2 successes), and he starts a nice conversation with the rock, who informs him that Reye passed by there 20 minutes ago, heading east.
(considering how long that took, i'm just gonna start listing off bunks for the others)
according to the Eldritch Prime heading, if one is just calling up nature (making it rain), then just the Nature realm is needed. but if you have a particular target in mind (that haughty Sidhe girl could use a good soaking), you need the realm to affect the person too (Fae 2).
with this in mind, i believe bunks would differ depending on the desired result. if you were just trying to make it rain, you could do a dance (1-5 depending on difficulty and detail), you could shoot off a rocket (3-4), you could sprinkle water on the ground (1-2), etc etc.
for the other elements, other things would be needed (fire: light a match - 1-2; wave a fan as if you were oxygenating a fire - 1-3; sprinkle gas everywhere - 4 and very dangerous; start scratching your heel on the pavement to either call sparks or imitate a match, could also be used with rocks or a sword - 3-5)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (wind: blow outward or use a fan - 1; whistle like the wind - 2; spin around like a tornado, or pretend to be a plane - 3-4)
(earth: kick up some dust - 1; grab a rock and throw it - 2; smear mud all over your face - 3-4; paint yourself with natural stains such as ochre and do a tribal dance - 5)
to affect a person, a different approach is needed.
if you're trying to knock that Sidhe down a few pegs, you might spit in her direction (water; 1-2), wave off her actions (wind; 1-3), "accidentally" kick a rock or dirt clod her way (earth; 2), or maybe spray some hairspray on her (fire; 3-5 and very dangerous)
it's helpful to read up on what your particular arts can do. for example, one of the confusing things about Reye having Chronos is that she doesn't have too much use for it. it's a cool power, no doubt, but using it isn't much good to her except for avoiding fights.
however, if she wanted to cast Chronos 5, she might draw a large clock on a wall (1-2), pull out a pocket watch and begin spinning it (2-3), meditate (1-3), or maybe just spin (1-2).
i feel i should mention that performing multiple bunks is possible if you feel one isn't enough. in Reye's case, since Chronos 5 is basically never cast in battle, she could perform as many bunks as she wants, though some will go better together than others (such as drawing the clock and spinning the watch).
with that in mind, she'll perform those two together and roll her pool (5 dice + 1 in fae to affect herself), with a difficulty of 6 (- 4 for the two bunks), for a difficulty of 2.
she gets 6 successes, and thus is transported back in time 6 minutes.
don't abuse the privlige of using multiple bunks, and make sure to stay appropriate to the situation. if you're trying to cast Holly Strike (Primal 4) in battle, you're not gonna take time to do much more than toss some holly leaves in your foe's direction (1-2).
have you guys followed everything thus far?
LadyJack: yes, and there is another thing you could do for holy strike
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): suggestions are cool
Mel: uhm...sure? a lot to take in at once. maybe too much for one session
LadyJack: it is also mentioned that it is expanding on imperfections.
like making a crack larger or such
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (dude don't write a book)
LadyJack: for a person, insults and other things to "crack" their confidence could work. or if you were going to use it on an object soemthing like shoving a blade or object into a small fissure and twisting it to make it crack.
sorry, went with an example on each side. lol
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): good suggestion
though tbh whenever i picture holly strike i always picture SHOOP DA WHOOP so doing anything close range seems either weird or not as effective
know what i'm sayin?
also, mel, is there anything you didn't quite follow
LadyJack: yup
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (i realize i was a little detailed, sorry)
Mel: its just a lot to take in in one go. I probably won't remember any of it when the next game comes around. too much there for any to stick but I did follow it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): kk
i'll give you a short version, maybe it'll stick more
bunks are fundamental to casting cantrips. basically, they're a way of telling the glamour what you want it to do.
Mel: I understood the whole bunk part and what they are
its when you brought in the chars that it became too much
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): kay, sorry
short version: weird, creative bunks are better than ones you use a lot or ones you'd expect.
if you wanted it to rain, you'd get more points for performing some odd african rain ritual than you would for singing "it's raining men".
LadyJack: what if you doned the dress
and danced?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): it's good to read what your spells can do and how they work
(don a dress and dance? not specific enough, 2 at best)
(donning a blue dress and dancing to that song while sprinking water everywhere? 3-4.)
when it comes to understanding your spells though, you have to keep in mind what you want it to do. considering you primarily call the elements by themselves instead of looking for a particular target, you only need nature
but if you wanted to set someone on fire, you'd need either actor or fae, depending on whether or not it's that vampire that keeps bothering you.
now then, i'm gonna use a different practice character since Reye's kinda tricky to use come to think of it and Mideel only has Primal.
(i'm figuring out that i give A LOT of my characters Primal without realizing it....)
so, Hatter will be joining us!
Mel: ok
Title: Practice Session - 1/2/13
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 03, 2013, 06:13:09 AM
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright, time to get to the actual rolls.
wht arts do your characters have?
(bring the sheets up if you haven't already)
LadyJack: primal
3dots
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): mel, i know medea has at least 2 dots in primal, but what was the other art you had?
...?
Mel: uhm
hold on
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): kk
Mel: wayfare is says
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay
(lol, Hatter has Wayfare 5)
(why does everyone always have the same arts. xD)
alright.
so how about you guys start with primal 1
there's a tree here.
you need to talk to it to figure out which way the thief went with the baron's robes.
perform a bunk, and then roll against the difficulty you get.
(base diff is 7, i'll say)
Mel: can you send me th elink to the dice thing again?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): sure, hang on
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm
Mel: thank ya kindly
LadyJack: Sarah goes over to the tree and bows before taking a low branch and shaking its "hand" Hello Sir, I was wondering if you had seen which way that raggamuffin theif went per chance?
(Would that be nature or fae?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (nature. you're talking to the tree, not you. 3 points, diff 4. roll.)
LadyJack: (kk)
7,2,10,3 *2 successes*
And momo wants my beef jerky.....
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): go cat go.
the tree is rather upset.
"Eh!? Fek off, yeh blimey fekkin' bugger! Eh was tekin' ah nep, eh was! Geh esk someone else, yeh soddy fekker!"
(tbh that's more worthy of a failure, but well, you woke it up.)
LadyJack: Sarah shakes her head "When you tell me which way the thief went, I will. Until then I will continue to shake your branches and ask for help."
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): "Eh just TELD yeh, eh was esleep! Der wez eh ruckus ehbout twehntehy mehnets ehgo, though. Tink eh saw dehm head teh meh lehft."
LadyJack: Sarah nods and smiles "Then that is where I will look. Good day to you." walking off
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright mel, your turn for a bunk. get the tree to tell you where the thief went.
...?
Mel: same tree as before?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): yeah. the personality will probably be different, though, i just made that all up.
Meli: ok
Medea walks up to the tree carring a few leaves anf branches from other various plants. She puts them in a circle so the tree is at the head of the circle and she stands in the middle. "Thank you all for allowing me a moment of your time," She says. "I was wondering if any of you happened to see a thief pass by. Maybe you had?" She turns to face the tree.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (4 points, diff 3)
Mel: (ok so what do I roll? and based on what?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (points in art + points in realm against diff 3)
Mel: (which dice?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (dude.....only dice used in this game is the d10)
(the olive-brownish one)
Mel: (ok so all the dots under arts and realm? not just certain ones?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (no, just the dots needed for the level of the art you're using [in this case, 1], and the level of the realm you're using [1 again])
(i might amend it later)
(but just roll 2 dice for right now, diff 3)
Mel: 5,3 (so 1 suc?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): "A thief, a thief!!"
the leaves begin to pipe up in chorus.
"Yes, a Thief."
"What did he Steal?"
"The baron's robes."
"I saw him, I saw him!"
"Well, tell her when!"
"I don't know when...."
"I do, I do!"
"Well tell her then!"
"Moments ago!"
the tree creaks in movement and speaks with a low bellow befitting of the old ash.
"He stumbled over my roots, in that direction. It seems that he may have tripped over a few of my friends. I would speak to the rest of the forest if you need more clues." He shifts his branch to your right, in a northwest direction.
Mel: "Thank you very much everyone for all your help." Medea says with a curtsey. She steps out of the circle and continues in the direction the tree pointed her.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -w-
excellent.
i'd like to do that again, but this time we'll do primal 2.
see that guy over there?
Mel: yep
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): he just got dumped by his childhood crush. he's devastated. he needs something to cheer him up, and fast, since he feels like sticking his head in a toilet.
see that girl over there?
call a wind and blow her skirt up. it should distract him for a sec.
LadyJack: Sarah smiles and puffs a few breaths in between her hands before flicking her wrists up in a two-fingered upwards hand gesture. "I call you wind to help me now, I call you forth and to you I bow." before bowing slightly at the waist and whispering to the air to blow the girls skirt up.
(Best I had honestly, I have never been good at wind)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's alright, but i'll tell you i find most poems cliche and annoying unless the situation REALLY calls for it or you honestly have NO other options. i'll give this one a 2. diff 5, use the actor realm if you have it; if not fae or nature.)
LadyJack: (Natures higher, so im using that)
8,9,4,4,9 *3 Sucesses*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (i'll let it slide but if you have actor you really should use it)
(you're affecting a mortal here, that's the intent, remember it. don't fudge because "this total is higher")
LadyJack: (I dont have actor)
(I have nature and fae)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (changeling doesn't forgive. if you split your dice pool between two actions you're supposed to use the smaller pool)
(then fae would have been better since you don't know if she's changeling or not. but tbh we could debate this all night, and you're not technically wrong by using nature.)
a gentle passing breeze suddenly picks up momentum and rips past the poor girl. her skirt flutters to life, right in front of the guy, revealing a pair of black string bikini panties with white lace trim.
the girl blushes a raging scarlet and runs off in tearful embarassment. but that guy is all smiles.
-w-
your turn mel.
Mel: oh boy here we go
hum
uhm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (take your time. this isn't a battle. -w- )
Mel: Medea begins to move her hand from side to side in the direction of the girl to get the air moving.
(IDK D: )
(maybe I'm trying too hard to be creative >.>; )
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's okay, tbh i think with EP you're not gonna be good at all the elements. 3 if you're lucky. it's just something to toy around with in your mind. maybe rewatch Avatar: The Last Airbender for reference. -w- )
(i'll call that a 2, so the diff is 5. roll your 2 dots in the art and the dots in the appropriate realm.)
(jackie rolled too many, for the record)
(fukkin' smilies, i just meant to lol )
Mel: (ok so primal and fae? or primal and nature?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): let's call this one fae since she did nature and it's the same number of dots anyway)
Mel: 7, 3, 10. 2 suc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): a light breeze floats through the city trees that dot the sidewalk planters. in a sudden burst of energy (perhaps brought on by a passing car, perhaps something else...), a rush of wind flashes by the girl, whipping her skirt upward. before she can cover herself her pure-white panties are shown to a very shocked bench guy. quickly she covers herself, slowly blushes, and runs off crying. though he looks remorseful, he also looks very grateful.
would you guys like to practice with your other arts? or maybe we could move on to something else?
Mel: would moving on to something else be a little much?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): nah, it's cool.
you mind if i give one last quick example?
Mel: sure
and I was asking is moving on would be too much for those learning...
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i don't understand the statement .__.
does not compute .___.
Mel: I think that moving on to an entirely new topic after covering a lot would be cramming too much into one session
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i was going to go to something simpler
just basic rolls
basically, training you to pick up on what needs to be rolled without me telling you specifically
for example, "you come across a dumpster that you saw the perp run past."
you could roll Per + Alert to search the dumpster, per + kenning to search for any glamourous items he may have dropped, etc
Mel: considering how much you've already given, that might be a bit much for me and none will stick. it's not that this isn't important, I'm just so slow at learning giving me too much  at once chokes me
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): hm, okay
Mel: not trying to be rude or anything....
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): no no
i'm just thinking that we still have time to kill.
lemme give you one more art example, at least
Melissa Clark: ok
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Hatter and Alice were walking along when his cell phone went off. While she was waiting, Alice was grabbed and carried off by a pedobear. Hatter needs to follow him, fast!!
Taking his mark, he crouches, and starts off in a sprint, his arms trailing behind him in an aerodynamic fashion.
when he gets to a certain point, he jerks his arms forward so they extend out like plane wings.
(4 pt bunk, reduces diff from 7 to 3; 4 successes)
Hatter launches into the sky with the speedful ascent not seen since 002. he makes an aerial beeline for the predator, and, swift as a hawk, speeds down like a bullet, tackling the man from midair.
(just for the record, he was using Wayfare 4, Wind Runner)
Mel: (funny how it went from a pedobear to a predator)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (well, pedobear is a predator)
(though the pedobear comment was more descriptive than literal)
(creepy pervert runs off with teenage girl. eeww.)
Mel: (I took it as literal at first....)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's all good, the message was gotten, as was the eeww)
if i were you guys, i'd read over chapter 2 of the  book i gave you. it gives some useful examples on different bunks, but you're creative people. make some up. you can write them on your character sheet if that helps.
and remember to remember what your arts do. it'll help you make effective bunks.
after all, wayfare 4 is DEFINITELY not the same as wayfare 5.
not even similar.
:\
Mel: okies
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you guys want to run through a few more quick rolls to get a better hang of it, or do you want to break for now and practice arts again another night?
Mel: I say take a break for another night
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay.
Mel: I can't stay on much longer anyway. have an appointment tomorrow I have to be awake for
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'm gonna post the other night's game and this practice session to OSC, for the record. i'll make sure to edit out people's names.
alright dude. thanks for hanging in this far, i'm glad that we got through it
i hope that cleared some things up.
Mel: it did
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): most people forget about realms and assign them randomly, but if you don't have the right realm for something you can't use your arts sometimes
yaaay ^^
if this was effective i guess that paves the way for future sessions ^^
LadyJack: Yeah, apaprently Pierre needs to take me places so I have to be up early to.
Want to shower before I see him
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay guys~
glad this was informative. i'll host another session tomorrow night provided i can get enough people around. i think that these little workshop things might be better if i just work with the people available. eventually everyone will pick up the information. :3
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and if you end up learning the same material over again, well, that's not nessecarily a bad thing.
Mel: okies
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ^^
LadyJack: anyway, night all
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): well, i guess that ends it for the night. i'm gonna go back to chatting with rodney and i'll post this later
night-o
Mel: night
I'll be on aim

Looks promising. As soon as I'm out of exam hell, I'll see what I can do about getting back in.

do eet man. but we need to have a sit down about your character if you do.

also, did you mean the practice sessions or the game? :\

Eh, I was figuring I could likely skip out on practice sessions in favor of exam hell and moving preparations. ZA GAEMU is quite good enough.

And yes, I'm not entirely sure what to make with him either. I was thinking of something new.

cilvarge is a great character, but tbh he's too overpowered for these first games. in the event that us people can keep playing to a point of at least 3-5 years, then i think everyone else will have caught up enough to such powerful characters. i think a session is in order to retool a character for you, since some direction might help you.

as for the practice sessions, even if you don't attend, i reccomend reading them. the cantrip one seems to have helped people quite a bit, and i think the others will, too. :3

I assumed so. What I propose is keeping him in-universe, though - that enables the use of his assets, as well as PLOTTIDY things from his side. If we're around the same campaign-wise, I mean.

For my new character... I have a few blades in the forge, so to speak. :)

sounds like a plan. but remember that the storyteller is omniscient in this case, lol. just run the character by me in the early stages so you don't get too attached to something, only to find out that it's too overpowered for our little game.

though i will grant you one thing that's sure to make you happy. whenever cilvarge comes on screen, i'll be giving you the jist of what he has to get across, and then you get to roleplay it out. -w- (he's still an NPC, he's just an NPC that is now voiced by our one and only Nejin. -w- )

Title: Practice Session - 1/3/13
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 07, 2013, 10:01:18 PM
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -----start------
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the topic i wanted to cover tonight was basic rolling and roleing
Jacquline Roulet: kk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): basically, trying to break everyone (including me) of the habit of me giving you rolls to prompt stuff
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rather than having me ask you guys to roll perception + alertness when there's stuff to be found out, you guys should be thinking of that yourselves
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): for example: sarah and gardy wake up in the back of a taxi.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): that would be all the information i'd give you initally. the rest would be gleaned from the player describing something like, "i look around to try to figure out where i am and where i'm going".
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): etc etc.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you understand, yes?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (see, this long pause shows me that no one is paying attention)
LadyJack: i am and yes
PentiumMMX: Yeah
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): your pause betrays you...
LadyJack: Momo was attempting to sit on the keyboard
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ah.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): moving on.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): tonight's objective is to get people in the mindset of roleplaying their characters more naturally, instead of awkward prompting.
LadyJack: kk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the difference between an MMO and an RPG. you shouldn't be expecting to press X to continue.
PentiumMMX: Kay
LadyJack: x
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): *shoots*
LadyJack: aanm hnziuujrtrreekjbvvfvfvft
PentiumMMX: ?
LadyJack: Momo shield
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): "...feeling groggy, the pair wake up in schoolgirl outfits, chained to school desks."
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (no using the cat as a shield. *shoots again*)
LadyJack: (As she almost falls off the chair) Sarah looks around trying to see if she recognizes where she is
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): per + alert, diff 5 (sarah).
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (and i just got the pain of a lifetime.....)
PentiumMMX: Wondering what happened, Gardy decided to check inside the desk in case there is something of importance inside
PentiumMMX: (That sucks :\)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (*takes sip of tea*instant tea touches teeth it's as if something went inside the tooth and drilled*)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's like my tooth got punched from the inside out)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Gardy: Wits + Investigation, diff 7.
LadyJack: 10,9,2,5,6,3 *4 Sucesses*
PentiumMMX: 2 suc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Sarah can see that this is no ordinary classroom. for starters, there's no other desks, outside of the teachers! the walls are painted in strange, garish colours, with modernist patterns that move about the wall. the floor is a solid salmon pink, and the door looks like it was cut from cardboard and made in the shape of the door from Pee Wee's Playhouse.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Something catches the corner of her eye, but disappears.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (just for the record, you could do a further action to investigate for glamour, which would be a Perception + Kenning roll, diff 6. 1 success would tell you you're in the dreaming right now.)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's all about knowing what to look for.)
LadyJack: (kk will try))
LadyJack: 4,10,7,4,5,7,5 *3 Sucesses*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Gardy: you find a pretzel pencil inside the desk. just because it's shaped like a pretzel, however, doesn't mean you should bite it. just as you are looking at it, it untwists itself and hisses at you.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (no dude, i wasn't suggesting you do the roll. i was giving you an example of what you could do next.)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (gathering important information by keeping yourself aware of your surroundings)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (the shifting walls, weird-ass door and disappearing shadow are all signs of glamour and chimerical activity)
LadyJack: (ah yes, would have asked about that actually.  i know i could have done a roll, but would have asked if it would have mattered)
PentiumMMX: (Ok, so what now?)
PentiumMMX: (Does your sister do something next?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): this was just a test
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): no need to leave your homes
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): come out of your bomb shelters
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): it's alright
PentiumMMX: Mmm
PentiumMMX: Kay
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): anyway, we'll move onto a different scenario.
let's say you were chasing Hatter.
by now you know he's a rather distinctive guy, with tripp pants, thrift store graphic tee, combat boots, and distinctive red bandana.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): he is sprinting up the street, directly into a street fair. you lose him in the crowd as he goes around a bend.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): look at your abilities, and think of a way to find him.
PentiumMMX: Ok
LadyJack: Sarah looks around and then closes her eyes, searching for the signature of Hatters fae-mein
LadyJack: (Per+alert then per+kenn)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): in this case the alertness roll isn't really nessecary, considering you're searching him out by looking for his glamour
LadyJack: (kk, whats the diff for the seond then)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): diff 7, there's a lot of people in the crowd and some of them are bound to be fae
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (also, just for the record you spelled it wrong. it's fae mien, and there's no hyphen. sorry if i'm being annoying but you know i'm a spelling/grammar nazi and  it'd bother me all night if i didnt >>;;;; )
PentiumMMX: Gardy slips on her goggles, as she begins to look into the crowd to catch a glimpse of  the bandana-wearing fae
PentiumMMX: (I couldn't think of anything better)
LadyJack: (6,9,10,2,2,8,4) (*3 Sucesses*)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (it's okay, but do the googles do anything? because if not then you're only serving to make it harder)
PentiumMMX: Well, I guess the goggles are more for effect; given how they're weilding goggles
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Sarah sees 4 fae in the crowd in front of her, but 3 are stationary. the other is moving away, fast.
: Sarah quickly moves after the fae trying to get away
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Gardy: if you were performing a bunk to see something, then that would be effective. but since they're not a treasure programmed to sniff out glamour, there isn't much for them to do here.
LadyJack: (Momo to the face while typing)
PentiumMMX: (So, would I roll a Wits + Investigation, or a Per + Alert?)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): tbh though that'd make a good bunk.
PentiumMMX: Mmm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): per + alert would be more appropriate here, but i think you guys are missing the point a bit
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): might i elabourate?
PentiumMMX: Sure
LadyJack: yes
PentiumMMX: (I'm not quite in the right mindset, sorry :\)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): no need to apologize.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): see, i'm trying to get you guys to think outside the box here a bit
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rather that quantifying actions into "what would make a good roll", think more along the lines of "what would sarah do?" or "what would gardy do?"
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): then we find a roll to match that
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): we want the roll to match the action, not the other way around
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): roleplaying comes first.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so i don't want you guys to mention specific rolls ever again.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): don't ask me "should i do per + alert or per + ken" or whatever
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): just describe what you're gonna do with the skills you have.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): if you have a high kenning, by all means, use it to search for shit.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but don't ask me if you should roll per + ken
PentiumMMX: I see. I guess it doesn't help that I don't really remember what some of these skills do
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): just ask me if you don't know
PentiumMMX: (My book shipped out today, BTW)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): yeeeeeeeeeeeey
PentiumMMX: Kay
[color-blueviolet]Hikari Chiisai (小 光): thankfully most of them are obvious
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (drive, athletics, computer)
LadyJack: (KK)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and i don't want you copying me by repeating rolls back to me
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): don't get used to using a particular roll
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): just because per + alert is common, doesn't mean you should get conditioned to use it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): get it?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): hm, i can explain that better
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): basically, i suppose you need to think of the game as another life
PentiumMMX: Mmm :3
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): not even a game, not something to be won, just something to be lived
PentiumMMX: Less of a "Press X To Not Die" ^^;
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): hell to the yes
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): if you lost your keys, you wouldn't "roll perception + alertness" to find them
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you'd search the room
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and while we cannot quantify real life into numbered successes (since, well, we can't predict how well you're gonna do), we can with the game, which is where the rolls come in
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): in situations where success can't be measured by roleplaying it out alone (a game of rugby, figuring out which subway to take, taking a math test), we have dice to help us determine how well the character did
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): since otherwise there would be no value (as in a math value; instead of saying "i got a 5 out of 5", you'd be saying "i got an X out of 5") to it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): a valueless result
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rolls can clutter things up when you do them too often
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but understanding their purpose can help you to make more effective rolls and to use your skills more appropriately to the situation
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): for example, perception + alertness and perception + kenning can both be used to have a look around
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but using one in place of the other makes for a less desireable result
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you wouldn't search for a trod entrance with a simple alertness roll
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and you wouldn't search for a place to hide with kenning.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): got it?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): how about we try reversing it a bit
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'll give you an action, and you give me what you think would be an appropriate roll for it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): one at a time, switch off. go.

Kari, have you ever tried putting sessions in Pastebin before formatting?  It's a lot easier then copy/pasting it into the forum and making topics huge.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 08, 2013, 08:37:03 PM
i have no idea what pastebin is. but tbh this seems easier since 1. people won't miss the relevant information as easily, and 2. i'm familiar with it. plus it's easy to skip over if people don't want to read it, and this has become a default infodump for topics pertaining to the OSChangeling Games.

besides, this is the only thread i'm expanding like XP-tan's chest. what's it matter?

He probably meant you just pastebin it and link those to here, which would have the same effect but with less threadblobbing.
W/E works tho.

i prefer this method. i've recieved no complaints till now, and i can colour-code them for easier reading. plus, i've noticed that people (including myself, sometimes) have a tendency to skip over links. :\

2/2 of practice session, sorry it took me so long to post it.

Hikari Chiisai (小 光): playing a pickup game of basketball. Pent?
PentiumMMX: *pokes Jack*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i got this.
PentiumMMX: Kay
PentiumMMX: Hm
PentiumMMX: Dex + Athletics?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ding ding~
PentiumMMX: ^^
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): depending on the length of the game and how experienced the player is, i think stamina + athletics would also be acceptable.
Rodney Grimes: True
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): mmm. jack, it's your turn. are you there?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i guess not. Pent, go again?
PentiumMMX: Sure
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): charming the lifeguard at a public pool into letting you in without paying.
PentiumMMX: Hm
PentiumMMX: Manipulation + Persuasion?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ding ding!
LadyJack: sorry yes
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): charisma + persuasion would work too, and if there were no dots in persuasion, either mani/cha + subterfuge or mani/cha + etiquette
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): where were you, dude?
PentiumMMX: I was considering that first one, as well
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): mmm
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): now then, jackie, do you understand what we're doing?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ugh
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): Pent, wanna go again?
PentiumMMX: Kay
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): a little kid burns their hand on a stove. fix it up.
PentiumMMX: Hm
LadyJack: yes i do
PentiumMMX: Int + Medicine?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): dingding~
LadyJack: its like a fancy matching game
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i was wondering what would make a good one for that, myself. wits might work, too
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): mmm, exactly
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ^^
PentiumMMX: Hold on a sec
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): also, mel will be joining us in a sec
PentiumMMX: Kay. Hold on a sec
PentiumMMX: Was having some issues with my connection
LadyJack: kk
PentiumMMX: ...and it's broken on Skype now >_>
PentiumMMX: There we go
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): :[
PentiumMMX: URGH
PentiumMMX: >_<
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): log out and log back in?
LadyJack: that sucks
PentiumMMX: Now it's working
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay
PentiumMMX: What next?
PentiumMMX: :3
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): who wants to go next?
LadyJack: i will
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): making a braided belt.
LadyJack: Int+Crafts
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ding ding~
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i don't think there's really any other rolls that could be used for that. i know there are some secondary abilities that might work here, but that's a bit too complex for this session.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright, who next?
PentiumMMX: I will
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay. ^^
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): get that barfly to tell you about the regulars.
PentiumMMX: Hm
PentiumMMX: Appearance + Etiquette?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): xD
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ding ding?
LadyJack: pr Cha+Manipulation
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): this one was really open-ended, and in the end it comes down to what kind of character you're playing (personality wise).
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): jackie, that one's a buzz-buzz. >:z
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rolls cannot contain two attributes or two abilities!
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): up to 2 pools can be used, but not from the same section.
LadyJack: Charisma and Manipulations arent
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): when you only want to roll one pool, you would roll an attributes pool, such as rolling your stamina or strenght
LadyJack: meant persuation
LadyJack: whoops
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): yeeeah. gotta be careful of that.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): cha + per is definitely an acceptable roll for this.
LadyJackt: kk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): like i was saying before, it all comes down to what type of character you're playing.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): if you were playing a redcap, they'd be more likely to use cha + intimidation or mani + intimidation than, say, cha + persuasion or cha + etiquette
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (somehow i doubt a redcap would even HAVE etiquette....)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i should also point out that you don't want to interchange charisma and manipulation so easily
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): one implies charm and grace
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the other using wit and prowess to bend others to your will
PentiumMMX: One is the title of a KISS song, the other is the central theme behind Master of Puppets -w-
LadyJack: some do
LadyJack: or can....
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): most of my characters keep their manipulation low, considering it's the type of thing usually reserved for really social characters.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rodney. that's a great way to put it, weirdly enough.
LadyJack: *giggles* A repcap at a sluahg high tea
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): rona, maybe.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but she'd be kinda bad at it.
LadyJack: that would be funny
PentiumMMX: Mmm ^^;
LadyJack: Momos acting like a real kitty Kari!
PentiumMMX: ^^
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): WHOOO
LadyJack: Nappin on laps and bein all warm and soft and purry
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -w-
PentiumMMX: Yay cat!
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): before we get back to the match game, i want to expand on the social concepts we've been discussing
PentiumMMX: ?
LadyJack: kk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): in a situation where one needs to gather information using their social skills, the first thing to roll would either be charisma (most likely) or manipulation (for a darker tone or less friendly social situation), or in a rare case, appearance.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but after that the ability you choose really says a lot about your character.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): are they the polite, refined type? then they'd be using etiquette.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): maybe the kindly, warm type? maybe empathy then.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (though that's more for comforting situations)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): maybe they're a player. subterfuge (the art of lying) or streetwise is more appropriate, then.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): of course, you could always leeroy jenkins it up and use intimidation or even leadership.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and there are even more, like good old persuasion, politics, investigation, etc.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): now that we're over that schpeal, who wants to go next?
PentiumMMX: Sorry to derail, but when is Mel going to join?
PentiumMMX: If you don't mind, I figured she could take my place so you can keep going, as I'd really like to sleep
LadyJack: haha jenkins
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): -w-
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): mel informs me that her headache has not ceased, so she won't be joining us. how about we do a few more matches and then we can pick back up on the topic to wrap it up tomorrow?
PentiumMMX: kay
LadyJack: kk
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): who wants to go next?
LadyJack: i will
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): your pilot on the plane suffers a heart attack. WHAT DO
LadyJack: Int+Drive
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): and so much prayer
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so much.
LadyJack: So much
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright rodney
PentiumMMX: ?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): your brother's little league coach is out sick.
PentiumMMX: Hm
PentiumMMX: Charisma + Leadership?
PentiumMMX: (Fill in for the coach)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): dingdingding~
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): exactly what i wanted to hear -w-
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ^^
PentiumMMX: ^^
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay jackie!
LadyJack: yay!
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): that fire hydrant is the only thing that stands between you and the perfect parking spot! rip it out of the ground and place it gently in that recycling bucket. -w-
PentiumMMX: (LOL ^^; )
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (a little far-fetched, i know, but i'm coming up with random ones)
LadyJack: Str+Brawl or Str+Melee
LadyJack: Maybe althletics
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you got the first one right, but melee is all about fighting with weapons
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so atheletics would be a better choice, yes
LadyJack: but...it could be a weapon
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): yes.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but you're gently recycling it. not beating the bin with it.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the bin didn't do anything wrong. ;^;
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): why ya gotta be like that.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay, rodney!
LadyJack: true
PentiumMMX: ?
LadyJack: Momo finalyl let me go, brb
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you went for a hike in the woods, and got lost! it's getting dark and cold, and the search parties haven't found you yet. what do?
PentiumMMX: Hm
PentiumMMX: Strength + Crafts
PentiumMMX: (Build a shelter)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): a nice concept, but....buzz buzz.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): :[
PentiumMMX: Maybe Int + Survival?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): muuuuch better. ^^
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): survival is about taking care of yourself in situations where supplies are not readily available.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): specialties in that one include stuff like urban (surviving on the streets), forest (obvious) desert, tundra, etc
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): this includes finding water, food, and shelter
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'll say one other thing: intelligence is a good choice here, but wits is a better one. intelligence is about knowing stuff, while wits is about keeping your cool and making logical, rational descisions in stressful situations.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i have a character with a 5 in wits. he's kept his cool on the streets, in fancy sidhe freeholds, and in the middle of a gang shootout. and this is with a little girl and a fairy in tow.
LadyJackt: back
PentiumMMX: Mmm
PentiumMMX: Good point
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): wb.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i'd be willing to say that intelligence could be substituted if wits is low, but it might depend on the character's personality.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): if we're dealing with sheldon from big bang theory getting lost in the woods, i'd say he'd be more likely to use intelligence than wits.
PentiumMMX: True, or Spock
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): true dat.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): okay, we'll do one more set. jackie, you're up.
LadyJack: kk
LadyJack: cats like to remove your ability to feel legs
PentiumMMX: Indeed
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): the bank has closed for the night. this is a great time to rob it. get in and out without being noticed.
LadyJack: This is a tough one....you could go dex+stealth or int+security
LadyJack: or any combo of these
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ding-fucking-ding!!
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): you got the other example i was going to provide, lol!
PentiumMMX: ^^
PentiumMMX: Nicely done, Jack
LadyJack: mmm cookie
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): i was expecting you to go the obvious route, with stealth. but since you're breaking in, security is also an acceptable answer.
PentiumMMX: *whistles Metal Gear Solid theme*
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): despite its name, security is all about breaking into stuff. hotwiring cars, etc. >>;
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): kinda weird, but it fits this situation.
PentiumMMX: Indeed. Stealth mission
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): as for stealth, i'd say the ones that fit the best with it would be either dexterity or wits, though i think i'd accept perception as well.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): when i think of a roll like that, i play out the action in my head and think of how each trait would affect it
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): so if an unseelie sluagh guy is breaking into the vault, would his wits or his dexterity be more useful?
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): get it?
PentiumMMX: Yep
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright, rodney, last one.
[color=goldenrodPentumMMX: fire
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): (....how did you know i was listening to fire)
PentiumMMX: ^^;
PentiumMMX: Anyway
PentiumMMX: Ready
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): gardy's friend entered her in the talent show without telling her. the poor thing is stuck up on stage with nothing planned.
PentiumMMX: Charisma + Performance
PentiumMMX: (WHOSE LINE)
PentiumMMX: (Improv it)
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): DING.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): that was exactly the response i was looking for. -w-
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright guys, if anyone is around tomorrow night we'll work on getting people into the mindset of living, not advancing
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): let it flow. don't let things stop and go by pressing x.
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): JUST HOLD IT DOWN
PentiumMMX: Go with the flow
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): but don't say that to your teachers during class.
LadyJack: kk
PentiumMMX]: ^^;
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): AND THAT'S THE MORAL OF THIS STORY
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): alright people that's a rap
PentiumMMX: Thanks, Wheel of Morality!
Hikari Chiisai (小 光): ------end------

Well, I've successfully transplanted myself into my new apartment, so I don't have any qualms aside from whatever school sets upon me.

so wait, a nej is living on his own? skal!

well, we have 2. we get a few more, and permission from the others to continue with the story, we play.

Lol? I've been on my own this whole autumn, as well. Now I've got a proper apartment, though, instead of a dorm room.

that's what i mean. i don't exactly consider dorms "on your own". :\

I hope to be out on my own soon enough...but that's beside the point

Everybody should come together so we can begin out adventure again :3

Well, the only difference is more space and that the shower/kitchen is within my own doors, really...

But yeah. I'll get back to working on the Jotuns as well, to see if I can have them ready for a campaign sometime soon.

kk man. as for the gaming group, well, mel seems too busy with school, and i'll have to contact russell and my sister. i'm willing to bet i could get my sister back in on it, but idk on the other two. if i can get their permission, we can continue, but you'll be at a disadvantge with the less people you have. :\
where's cockle stand on this, anyway?

was anyone on board for the idea of mini-sessions? like, 2 hours whenever we can get 3 or more people together?
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Changeling: The Dreaming (2nd Edition)
Post by: Nichi on May 02, 2013, 05:33:02 PM
I like the idea, but it's a matter of if anyone else is willing to come together; since we can't really do it with just one player :\

mmm. i already know you're on board for this, i was wondering about the others, but they don't really seem to care. i'd ask mel, but i think she's just hit the halfway mark of her semester so she's likely dealing with projects. but then again, she's always going on about magic: the gathering, so she must have SOME free time....

everyone who ever considered playing in a game with me, read this.

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Flookrobot.co.uk%2F2013%2F06%2F20%2F11-ways-to-be-a-better-roleplayer%2F&h=DAQFErfbi

we have renewed interest in playing the game. but i'm going to lay down a few ground rules first.

1. ALL character sheets must be approved by me. this may include restructuring to existing characters (*coughcoughcilvargecough*), but such is the way of the game so that shit is fair to everyone.

2. commitment MUST be proven by attendance of practice sessions. if you can't make it due to other reasons, alright, but otherwise i arrange the practice sessions to be convenient to as many people as possible. this might sound bitchy but with all the bullshit we've put up with in terms of players, i consider it necessary. if you've proven yourself unreliable in the past but still want to play, this ESPECIALLY applies to you.

3. persons with demanding other commitments (school, work) will be considered unsuitable for play unless they convince me otherwise. we're going to agree on a day. if you can't make it, that's your problem, not mine.

4. i am god here. don't like it, get the fuck out now.

5. you MUST read the book. not the player's guide, not the expanded literature, THE. CORE. BOOK. you can skip the introduction and the opening story if you like, and you already know the majority of chapters 1 and 2. you can even skip chapter 3 and 4 if you already have a character. chapter 5 and 6, however, are manditory (and believe me, i WILL make sure you actually did it). if i were you, i'd skim chapter 1 and 2 to see if there's anything unfamiliar, but that's not required. in addition, i may give out "homework". it's not going to be frequent, long, or difficult. you'd better do it. (i'm sick of saying "please".)

6. for the love of god, cut your whiny bullshit. i KNOW you all want to play and have a good time. NO ONE likes that guy. that guy who is a rules lawyer and whines when i don't cave to his every. fucking. demand. every complaint you make is one that derails the game. concerns, questions, etc, are fine. backseat DMing, rules lawyers and haters are not.

7. you come here to play, that's what you're gonna do. breaks will be shorter and stricter. derailment will be dealt with via swift justice. non-committed players will be cut. turn order will be fucking respected. no compromises.

8. i say no, that means NO. not "maybe later in the game", not "maybe with some tweaking", not "ask me again every 2 minutes", NO. start the fuck over if it's that big a deal.

9. don't think you can get me to crack by threatening to leave. i'm willing to forsake the "minimum 3+ players rule" for the sake of the group.

10. yes, i'm a bitch. no, i don't care how many times you tell me that or how many insults you hurl at me. remember, i'm doing this because i care. (http://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gif)

nej, i consider you like family. but think of it from my perspective. the breakdown of the game was due to a variety of factors (mostly lack of commitment....but that's another matter entirely), and i've come to reevaluate my position a bit. i don't like being strict either but i figure we'll all be better in the end for it. at the very least it'll amount to a more organized (and thus longer running) game.

oh, and FYI, i can't tell if you're angry or just telling me to be more tact. vagueness is a pet peeve of mine, nej~

The latter. Well, some of the former because of the need of the latter, but mostly irritation.

Alas, dear minion, I'm an author. Vagueness is in my job description. ^^

I'm well aware of the fact to run things with a bit of an iron hand if we're to get anything done here, but do mind the brakes, so to speak. The best tyrant is a popular tyrant.

i'm not gonna become a rules nazi, by any means. but i do need to bring the hammer down a bit more so to speak, if only to keep order. order means the plot can advance, and will result in less break-ups.

oh, and everyone learning how to play (and actually having the lessons stick) will sure help too :3
