Post by: Acher13 on July 04, 2011, 05:22:29 AM
So, anyone wanna show off their precious collection?
I'll start, and hope this kind of thread is accepted  ;D

3rd pic from left to right, Yda, Ach, BabyRazz, Strarf.
except Strarf, all the other 3 are Choco's design (not Chocofreak13 that is  ;D).

Most of my figurines and action figures are for video games. Here's a few pics of them:

@Archer: The Pokéball contains a 24k gold-plated Pikachu card from Burger King, from around the time of the first movie. It'd be cool if it was fully functional, but it does look really nice on my shelf

i believe the last count was 33 plushies.

my figurine collection is sorely lacking, but i don't mind. plushies are cuddlier. ^^

I love plushies, but not when they're human-shaped: I collect animal plushies and some of them arrived in my backpack here when I moved. The other half (especially the bigger ones) are waiting to be shipped from my parents' place. Are non-anime plushies welcome here? ._.

Anime figurines I used to have around a dozen or fifteen, but brought only the OS-tan ones and Fuu Hououji to France with me: the rest stay at my parents' garage, as I'm not really willing to commit myself to dusting them regularly anymore. ^.^;

@bella: you don't have enough anime plushies/figurines to realize that people get protective/hoardy. :3

(it pisses me off when people sit on my plushies. sadly, my bed is shaped like a couch, inviting people to sit, resulting with them sitting on my plushies. ><; )

I bought a cabinet just for them.. but sometimes I slept on my plush or figure at night.
ya know, rollover and knock them off then the next morning I was squishing them =(

its been a week since I last play with Ach T^T

pretty cool. :3

i don't have the space for a cabinet for them, plus i don't want to put them on a shelf or whatever where they'll gather dust and never be hugged or played with. :[ it's kinda depressing to think about.
as a result, they cover the back wall of my bed, though i tend to keep the ones i sleep with up with me, most notably the 'boys':
naruto uzumaki
sasuke uchiha
sabaku no gaara
sanji prince
deidara
vincent valentine
tsukasa

idc if this makes me seem weird. i love it. ^^

That reminds me of my other figurines, they do tends to collect dust as I got to my parents home only once a year and its about a week stay.
I've built a plastic cover for that cabinet with a suction fan that use solar panel and a few pack of silica gel.. no one taking care of them.

i missed the sebastian plushie. :[ in a way, it's a blessing, since now i can focus on school supplies and get the plushie later on (i'm aiming for october or november, since i'll be saving in september for a ticket to a con).

in the meantime, today i'll be earning a little more money so i can bid on that bento i posted a link to in gen. chat. wish me luck, i'm gonna fight tooth and nail to get this matching set >:3

ahhh. for a second there i thought the posters were really old or that the cigarette companies were targeting japan as well as some of the less developed asian countries. :\

either way, anime posters are always cool, whether you watch the anime associated with them or not. ^^

ooooo, you're lucky. those are really, really nice! *0*

come to think of it, if i get a bunch of comic markers (copics, neopikos, prismas, etc) and some marker paper, i think i might make some of my own posters. (that might be everyone's christmas present, lol)

btw, should we expand this thread to include comic supplies? ik only 3 of us here do comics at all (maybe 2, actually), but i think it might be interesting to hear if anyone here besides me plans to get or already has things like comic tone, art/drawing books, alcohol based markers, etc. :3

are those poseable!? *0*

also, since the green light has been given, i have some neopiko markers. they're comparable in quality to copics, though i find it kinda annoying that they're non-refillable. but then, most art supplies aren't, so i guess it's not too big a deal. :3

i know where to buy some comic tone, but it's absurdly expensive. still, i'd like to try it at least once. :3

main site, which you might need some proxy help:
http://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/mms/index.html?style=leftside

some online shops which ships outside japan:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/
http://www.amiami.jp/shop?set=english

uh, reliable resell item
http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/search.do?searchStrategy=keyword&action=keyword&doujin=all&keyword=busou+shinki

other source will be such as ebay or yahoo auction japan (needs proxy)... of course, these options could suck you dry T^T

for proxy, I use riderproxy or tokyohunter service.. google them =)
lastly, my favorite loli is:

lol

and this is the actual pc game

yeah, the price are quite something for some of them.. Take Ach for example(my current avi), when they released her during the late 2007 I bought her for something around $35.. current price, get ready with at least $200 and that's a remodel version.. each of them are limited to only 1k~1.5k unit.

afaik, no coz mostly fans bought the naked body (a.k.a extra body which is a plain body without paint) and do custom jobs on them..
best way to get these is to look up the incoming series before they do price hike which could get over 200% (this december is the vicviper series), I'm loooking forward to next year January where they'll release the bikers girl duo(attachment).

also, they're getting few short ovas for the upcoming PSP game which is by end of next month?
@red: yeah, its better that way for custom one.. could get cheaper.
@choco: not trying the doll series? obitsu? dolffie?

Its the first time I take them out of the box, the plant attribute sisters >.<

what's the cheapest brand from your experience? :\

as it turns out, dollfie bodies aren't that expensive. it's the accessories that jack it up. ^^; i'm going to request set for christmas (3 female, 2 male), since, if nothing else, they make better artist's mannequins than the one i have. :3

no experience at all.. so far I'm only looking at friend's collection.. those are nice, but you have to survey a lot of places to get a good combination.. his one cost about $4xx since it was a hybrid of brand.
on the other hand, its really hard to find fabric at my current place.. can't make any clothes right now T^T

ah, the power of fabric scraps. once i get a couple, they'll have clothes in no time. ^^

but really, 17-18 bucks is really affordable. :3

doublepostlolwut

as was mentioned in topicless, i now have a dollfie. ^^ specifically, this (http://www.volksusa.com/2227eb0001.html) type of dollfie. i'll be getting this (http://www.volksusa.com/2227eb0009.html) type within the week, as well as shoes for him (i bought some for her when i bought her), rooting hair and eye decals. :3

i figured this was worth another post, because i've come up with a suitable name for my doll: Yumi. ("beautiful friend") idk what i'll name her counterpart yet, but i'm looking forward to getting him. :3 yumi already has some clothes i've made for her, and they'll both be getting more. :3

damn you, i'm so jealous right now~ ><; (mainly because of the cute outfits, the polkadot dress would look great on yumi)

that said, are those figmas or dollfies? and is their hair plastic or can you style it?
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~

they're close to figmas but much better I think in term of solidness, its the mms type body.
the hair is plastic but there's variation and best part is that they could swipe from each others.

@bells: yeah, those are in hong kong dollars. the most expensive thing i saw on there was 50 bucks.

@acher: a pattern is pieces of paper that you use to cut out shapes of fabric to form a piece of clothing. :3

so i got 3 moar dollfies, and my initial 2 now have eyes. expect pics of the twins tomorrow. ^^

EDIT: sorry, no pics, but they all have names. Once they're all done you'll be getting plenty of pics of Yumi, Yuki, Akane, Shinjyo, and Jurin. ^^

also, yeah semester break! I can work on design and some sewing practice but bad news is I'm broke after binding my thesis and pay my bills.
thinking on getting another shinki, but the my budget would be tight this month... uuhg, then just wait till the January issue..

also anyone got the nerve on bringing their figure outdoors? I'm used to go out with Ach now, people will stare but later they just ignore it.

i've brought my dollfies to school a couple times. while they're there, though, they don't leave my sight. (i've managed to balance the pair on my shoulders and walk around. haters gonna hate. 8) ) i even used them as part of a project recently. (once i can get the pics from my friend i'll post them, it was pretty funny).

i only plan on taking them with me again once all 5 are done (right now 2/5 are done), i'm gonna show my friends the little "family". :3

my sister has a pair of them as well, i'll try to get pics of them too. :3

my friend did knit them a dress, though. :3

i know it came from a barbie doll. but this one is faded and worn out.  :\

@acher: i forgot to mention, these are 1/6 scale. i couldn't afford them otherwise. ^^;

so i placed an order today for 2 more dolls, with shoes and hair. sadly i've asked volks to suspend my order for a few days because i need to get a bottle of the paint thinner (went to 2 craft stores today, and the only paint thinner that exists for paint there is for oil paint, which is likely not what i'm looking for).

Hot damn that is a nice Alice/Shanghai/Hourai doll set.

I think I'd rather have a Nagato figurine.  Or your copy of Arma2 and Dawn of War II.
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: CaptBrenden on December 19, 2011, 03:32:02 AM
if I wasnt a cheapskate and didnt want to pay shipping Id give ARMAII to you. I got it, then steam had a sale on ARMA games that had the whole ARMAX collection for the cost of the retail version of british military compnay and PMC alone. Ive got that game on steam, the disc and theCD key for the retail version is pointless now.

Back to figure talk, that alice figure came with rubber bloomers that can be taken off, so you can decide if you want panties or bloomers. Also, the shanghais and hourais were extra. The same alice figure is offered with just the two attached to her skirt, and if you get de DX box it comes with the other 4.

Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: stewartsage on December 19, 2011, 07:29:27 PM
Well, the Alice figure is tricked out with six figurines of her (Alice's) dolls (two types, Hourai in the red and Shanghai in the black/white).

I've got the free version of Arma, and Operation Flashpoint, but I keep meaning to actually get Combined Ops with the British pack (I plan to keep making due with Dawn of War: Winter Assault for the foreseeable future).

Speaking of dolls i wonder if I should post mine here or start a BJD thread

Yes, I am that kind of doll person.  Expensive 4-600 dollar dolls with outfits that cost more than my own clothes.
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on December 19, 2011, 11:03:37 PM
i knew it!! >:3 welcome back to the forum, fellow BJD enthusiast!

once my sewing machine's fixed, if you give me the sizes of your dolls (chest/waist/hips, arms/legs, etc), i'll make you some clothes for them. not as factory-looking as storebought, but i can make specific stuff w/o a giant price tag. (for example, all that excess brocade i have lying around in the basement? kimono for you. >w> )

there's only 2 days left before x'mas and I have to rush things up. finished the coat and hat, need to re-adjust the bag and the hard part is the dress..

Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on December 22, 2011, 08:56:13 PM
me? i have 5. but they're 1/6 scale, so some people don't consider them "ball-jointed dolls" in some respects. as far as i'm concerned, they came from volks, and have 10 times the posing capability of a barbie and action figure combined, so to me they're BJDs. :3 the thread i joined on gaiaonline about BJDs doesn't give a damn  about their size, either. ^^

that said, i don't think we have enough people here to warrant the creation of a BJD specific thread. maybe it's just me, but there's you, me, acher?, and soon bella, so if you think that's enough, then make it and i'll post. :3

would you like some clothes? if you get me the sizes for your dolls i'll make you something. :3

No, I don't have any BJD yet.. to be exact, I don't have a complete one yet.. missing the head set, just a plain obitsu 1/6 body I use for anatomy reference when drawing.

while Ach is an action figure, I have to say she poses more than barbie as well as my girlfr.. urhm.. mascot =P

@acher: i'm jealous of that. i want to make mine some christmas clothes but i left my red fabric at home ><;;

@captain: i will never understand how people can afford that ;^; that said, your girls are lovely. i'll make some models of them out of clay, then make some patterns for clothes for them. ^^ i'll probably make you something over my vacation, how's a kimono sound? :3 (idk why, but i want to use up some more of that excess brocade. it seems like such a waste to have it just sit in the basement. ^^; )

EDIT: the last two didn't give waist measurements, could you give me those please?

@choco: the clothing material used were last year santa's hat and a candy bag..
it does turns out pretty well although I have to use 5size of needles and super glue for smaller part, I do hope this one can withstand machine wash.

Technicly shes a child.. i guess some of them are early bloomers... but the body proportions are made in scale with the teenager ones. All the dolls D.O.D. produce are inscale and the size is their "age" they actually have some baby/infant ones I want to get, as well as some older boys, kinda want to complete a family

Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: CaptBrenden on December 25, 2011, 01:29:43 AM
its partially the size of the eyes. its the same 16mm eyes in both the adult and child dolls, so they seem so much bigger on the child. Thats one of the first things you do to make a character look like a child, make the eyes bigger

true. it's also why they have contacts in japan that increase the size of the pupil and the shines, to make girls look more like anime girls. :3

and now, some pics of the finished result. :3
Yuki's hair looks better here, doesn't it? :3 (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01601.jpg)
Akane, in all her seductress glory. *w* (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01623.jpg)
Akane in close up. i love how she came out. ^^ (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01624.jpg)
Jurin, looking as cute and boppy as ever. ^^ (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01625.jpg)
she has less makeup than Akane, but it suits her, doesn't it? (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01626.jpg)
Shinjyo came out particularly nice. (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01627.jpg)
since his eyes are the smallest, they were the hardest to do.... (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01628.jpg)
Yuki looks better in the morning light than in the lamplight, i think. ^^; (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01629.jpg)
His eyes (hopefully) match his sisters'. (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01630.jpg)
Finally, Yumi, both the first and the last in this process. I think she came out well. :3 (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01631.jpg)
not sure if i'll keep the ponytail or not. (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/DSC01632.jpg)

= u = in my case I only do their make up, the eyes themselves I just swap out with whatever color i feel like at the time.. got a whole bag of them, kinda think i wanna make one of them have heteochromia
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on December 27, 2011, 11:51:06 PM
@captain: thankyou ^^

depending on the look and feel of the doll, i'd consider glass eyes in the future, but in this case it was easier to paint them on.

however, after reading the literature that the volks people sent me, i'd likely go with the glass eyes for a larger doll. it doesn't look as hard as it seems.

also, when you said you have a bag of glass eyes i kinda lawl'd, since i was watching pawn stars earlier and this guy brought in a case of like, 50 human glass eyes. xD must be a little creepy to have a bunch of glass eyes lying around..

post pics if you do heterochromia. it's always a pretty cool effect. ^^
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: CaptBrenden on December 28, 2011, 12:23:55 AM
Well, these arent that creepy xD their actually half spheres(mostly, they are buldged out a little bit like a real eye), and their acrylic. If they were complete eyes then they would be creepy yes. They just sit in the eye sockets and are held in place by modeling clay. Easy stuff. Im going to be body blushing my dolls later, ill post partial pics, but no full doll nudity. The are.. anotomicly correct, and I would feel bad for them.

YOU MONSTER.

If mine posed nude they would have to get posted in the hentai subforum. The got pink bits where there are pink bits and so on.

Also the imagry of that tablet pen held there = u = haha~

dunno is this is going to sound like it belongs in the H subforum, but i think one of the reasons i'd buy a 1/3 scale one is because of the anatomically correctness. idk why, but it feels like it's higher grade because of that. (no blank spots like with barbie or GI joe, lol. xDD)

of course, i'd also buy a bigger one because it'd grant me the oppertunity to make bigger clothes. bigger area means bigger canvas. ^^

@bella: yay, i hope you enjoy her ^^

oh crap, i realize i forgot to put in rooting needles. :[ if there's an AC moore in your area, they sell doll rooting needles there, and they're much, much sturdier than the ones they sell on the site.

also, does the dress fit? :3

I can't wait to get her hair rooted and eyes painted, looks like this will be a fun project. No AC Moores in the area that I know of, but there's a Michael's crafts in Concord that will probably have doll hair rooting needles in stock. They have pretty much everything else.

The dress fits perfectly, actually. ^^

i need to take a pic with the chocbo plus pent sent me, especially with the other chocobo plush i already had. they look adorable together. ^^

I still haven't gotten around to playing any of the games, but I look at touhou fanart, read some of the comics, and am a fan of some of the characters as well (and I like the character design in general - for a franchise with 100+ characters, they somehow manage to all be so unique).

Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 05, 2012, 02:21:28 PM
she said she "had" them, so if its in digital format that's one thing. but they sell a lot of doujin at cons, and at roughly 8 bucks a pop, that adds up....
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: CaptBrenden on January 05, 2012, 06:42:30 PM
I HAVE about a dozen hard copy ones, but i have like 22 gigs of digital ones.. every month, maybe several times a month www.gensokyo.org will post an update with a couple of translated doujins. As much as I love to support artists, I cant understand the hard copies since they are in japanese so I read teh scanalations and pick up the hard copy of my favorite ones when i find them. the games however, Im slowly buing a hard copy of each one. I own a legitimate copy of  great fairy wars, all three fighting games, Imperishable Night (which, for those interested in trying the danmaku games I would saggest starting with it. its supposedly one of the easier ones(( least by japanese standards, I still can only beat it on normal let alone hard or lunatic)),and it has the most replayability with multiple modes and more characters then most of the games.)  Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil, Mega Mari and Scarlet Symphony II.   Since doujin games are made by independent developers piracy effects them directly and takes food out of their mouth. As a sresult im pretty heavily for buying the legit copies, as I manage to find them.

And if you try it bella, keep in mind touhou is one of those games where you are suppose to loose.. ALOT. its a memory and practice game.   One of the nice features of Imperishable Night is spellcard practice, a feature alot of the games dont have. Most of the games allow you to go into practice mode to skip right to the stage you need to practice, but IN also lets you practice on any spell card you manage to capture.  It also has something called last word spell cards, which are unlockables that let you play one special spell card for every character in the game including the playable characters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utGmwWVq-ck here is a good video to show you what to expect.. this is only stage 4 of 6 on lunatic difficulty.
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 05, 2012, 10:14:45 PM
maybe i'll skip it then. it looks cool but i'm not sure i can devote the time to it. ^^;;
it doesn't seem like the type of game that you can let alone for days to months and come back to like nothing happened, like harvest moon or something.

speaking of which, would a plush of the horse from harvest moon count as an anime plushie?

Yeaaaah, the insane level of difficulty is what makes me hesitant to try it... I have a pretty short attention span for games as it is. Though I still want to give it a shot (even with the knowledge that I'll do terribly/not be able to advance) just so I can say I've played it. ^^;;;;

the fighting games are wonderful as well.. and definitly easier to pick up then the danmaku. However that being said, it doesnt play like your traditional fighting game, so several fighting game types Ive had try it didnt adapt well. It plays more like.. smash brothers. I certainly enjoy them more and play them more often.. hence why i went out of my way to get them first.

Hey choco, any tips for sewing small peices of fabric on a sewing machine?  I was thinking of pinning it to a larger peice of tissue paper that i could tear away after im done, otherwise it jams the fabric into the feedplate on my sewing machine.
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 20, 2012, 02:31:29 PM
that sounds like a good idea. though you'll have to be careful that the paper isn't sucked into the feedplate as well. when i had trouble with smaller things, i'd just hold it really tightly so it wouldn't move. considering the needle only goes up and down, you can avoid it pretty easy. having the foot down firmly also helps.

also, since i never had any problems with fabric getting caught in the machine (thread yes, fabric no), are you sure that the plate is in securely? or the right way? i think i put mine in backwards once and it was annoying as hell. >>;

if you have any more problems, it might be better just to hand sew it. :\ if you're careful and precise, it'll be just like machine stitching. (i use a loopstitch for extra security, but idk what works for you.)
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: CaptBrenden on January 20, 2012, 08:47:28 PM
well i havent tried to do it on my newest sewing machine, my old one had a pretty decent gap between the teeth and the plate and it would push fabric into it. my nice 900 dollar embroidery machine might not have that problem.
Title: Re: Figurine/Plush collection thread~
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 20, 2012, 10:08:11 PM

Second.. I got this CRAZY doll/action figure for crazy nestolgia.

CRAZY detailed for something thats 12 inches tall. I carried every peice of gear in there, it breaks back soo many memories.

However, when i was looking at it, something didnt seem right to me..  It seemed familure in more then just the fact it had all my marine gear... then it occured to me. He is modeled to look like SSgt Naats from Battle LA.

Think im crazy?  Look at this one...

Looks like another well detailed doll of a US navy corpsman.. but look closer.

strange how much the medical guy looks like... dun dun dun..

Kinda wonder how they get by with using celeberty likenesses without any royalties...

Somehow Dr House just became infinitly more awesome.  He will drop into a combat zone and tell you its not lupis.

EDIT: I just noticed.. even Dr. House knows to keep his finger straight and off the trigger until he is ready to fire.

military house is even more badass, since he refuses to complain about his leg, instead deciding to be a martyr. xDD

that said, both look awesome. ^^ though i imagine that  carrying all that stuff must have been heavy. :\

also, looking forward to the madoka figures. they sound cool. :3

(on a thread-related note, i was gonna keep this hidden till they were done, but i'm making some anime figurines of my characters. expect pics once they're done. >w< )

First.. I ordered all 5 magical girls from madoka as figmas. 3 of them are on pre order, but madoka and homura have already arrived 8D

So fukken jelly.

Those must've cost a ton, though? Don't Figmas run, like, $100USD a piece?

only if you dont know where to buy them.  places like Jlist charge many times what they are worth. Jlist lists them at 130 dollars, I paid approx 30. I just bought them from a japanese site and paid to get them imported myself. The expensive price tags are part websites over charging because its an import item, and its part that figmas tend to be limited in numbers so resellers buy them all up and sell them at a significant mark up. By pre ordering them before they are released i get them for retail.

i'm not getting any of these, but i thought i'd share them with you all. plus, they're preowned, so they're cheaper than normal. (not that that means much, most of these are over 50 bucks. >>;; )

EDIT: PS: good god this is expensive.....(about $943.61)
